We’ll Heal Together
Tumblr media
Summary: Trauma is Trauma. They all will help each other and not abandon each other. |Takes place after LoversLane.|
Author: I was very Tired when I wrote this.
——
How do you love, without getting hurt?. How can you put yourself out there without getting hurt?.
She was kind, funny and sweet. So why did she want the brute?. The angry quiet destructive bad boy?.
Or so Garroth thought when he first saw and met Aaron. He will admit he was unfair— it was unfair of him to judge straight off the bat— it wasn’t fair that he picked him out to be a horrible person.
If he didn’t like that people did that to his baby brother— why would he do it to someone else?.
Garroth wishes time travel exists so he can go back in time to his younger self and force his sophomore self to go talk to the quiet boy and invite him to have lunch so he doesn’t sit in the corner all by himself. Probably smack him in the back of his head while he’s at it and say ‘quit being an assclown and go talk to him’.
But he can’t, he can only stay in the now— and the now wasn’t really the best at the moment.
They were home.
They were finally home— back on MyStreet!.
All of them!.
Even Travis and Aphmau…
It’s been a couple of months since lovers lane- Nine to be exact. Aphmau and Travis had made great recovery but of course with how all their lives go— no one is fully out of the mess that they’ve been through without a few issues. Travis has developed sleep paralysis along with severe migraines that feel like his head might explode— the white hair male didn’t say this himself but… the group believes that Travis has developed voices in his head due to all of them witnessing Travis muttering to himself to the point of getting frustrated.
The first to witness this was Dante. And Dante told Lucinda- Lucinda told Zane- Zane told Nana who told Katelyn- Katelyn told Kim who then told Garroth.
Explaining what had happened to all of them was hard to tell Dante the blue-haired man looked as if he was lost and absolutely terrified for all of them.
They all went to Aphmau together and told her about it. She had given them all a gentle pained smile saying she knows and that he does.
They didn’t know how to feel after being confirmed about it.
Travis also suffers from night terrors- sever at that to the point he fights in his sleep once giving Dante a black eye because of it. That caused Travis to lock his room door at night.
Aphmau, Aphmau suffers from chest pain- to the point it feels as if it’s on fire— rainy days are when it’s at its worst though. It makes the raw flesh itch, which drives her crazy.
Nana is her caregiver at the time being.
Nana is also suffering from the same kind of pain.
But as a whole— they all suffer from nightmares, they all suffer from PTSD- they all jump at the sound of fireworks or someone knocking at their door. Fear of being hunted down once again.
Kim bunks with Lucinda- Katelyn stays with her father and KC.
Zane stays at Aphmaus to help Nana watch over her.
Aaron… Well Aaron stays with Melissa. She moved them to New York for the time being— but of course not without keeping them updated with the Ultima and his progress of his own healing.
Garroth's head was spinning from thinking about it all. If Zane was here he’d probably say ‘quit thinking so much you’re gonna hurt yourself you idiot.’
The blonde smiled at the thought. Oddly enough he misses the way Zane would insult him.
And Vylad… Irene when they returned home he had never seen so much distraught in his brother's eyes before. The way he didn’t hesitate to hug Zane for once due to the fact his brother hates physical touch. It broke him, it broke both of the ro'meave brothers seeing the way their youngest brother broke down in their arms. He said seeing them on the news made his soul leave his body and pray to Irene that he wouldn’t lose them or their parents.
An hour- an hour of constant touching from him, touching them— their mother trying to sooth him that they’re okay and not gonna leave him behind.
Vylad was so distracted from his fear and relief that he didn’t notice his oldest brother had ears and a tail.
Funny enough what got the poor boy to calm down was a straight up hug from Zane when they got to a safe area where everyone could actually sit down. Zane Ro'meave, the man who hates touching hugged their baby brother first he even pulled his mask down to drop a kiss onto his curly brown hair whispering into it— Garroth respected their privacy by tucking his ears down so he doesn’t accidentally listen. Whatever Zane said made Vylad nod, hugging him tighter.
The blonde sighed, rubbing his face, scratching his newly grown beard— something he decided to let be.
It was 10pm and he couldn’t sleep, awoken by his inner demons chasing him within his nightmares.
He wanted to see if he could go back to sleep but something in him wouldn’t let him so he just took it as a sign not to try. It’s probably for the best anyway…
.
.
.
They’ll heal… they will and they will do it together no matter how long it takes.

i hate doing posts like these but i’m going to be annoying and talk about my mystreet rewrite
these guys are broke.
all of them room with people and most even share bedrooms cuz everyone having their own individual rooms is too expensive. aaron is the only exception but he literally lives in a shitty studio apartment. it’s so bad it wasn’t even listed as a studio on the website he found it on. aph keeps the tags on clothes cuz she returns most of them after wearing them on a night out. garroth is the only who has touched a steering wheel cuz aside from him no one owns a car. it’s either public transport or a lyft. not an uber. lyft. gene,, sasha and zenix ransack charity shops and diy their clothes so much that zenix once accidentally got bleach in his eye after trying to create a design on one of his shirts. buying expensive clothes is not an option. either you prick your finger a thousand times trying to hand make outfits or rummaging through your unwashed clothes if you wanna actually wear something nice. the best paying job anyone has ever had is katelyn which was working as an accountant for a company. on the other end of the spectrum garroth does not have a job because he is incapable of figuring out what he wants to do with his life. also did i mention most of these guys have massive student loan debt

ITS HIM!! MY BOY
LAURANCE ZVAHL’S REDESIGN IS HERE
i’ve been so excited to post this you have no idea
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
important notes and headcanons:
first and foremost, when Cadenza went missing so did his style. she would usually help him pick out his outfits and when she wasn’t around to help him, he just grabbed whatever he had lying around regardless of if it matched or not.
when cadenza dyed his hair back to its “natural” color it was a shade or 2 too light so as time goes on you can see it grow out.
he likes having somewhat long hair because he can put it in a pony tail and braid it an stuff.
-this next one is pretty intense so fair warning-
so when he was transformed into a shadow knight, he never technically died. he was grabbed and the shadow lord instructed gene to have him brought to the ritual table and turned. because most shadow knights are transformed before being resurrected, they don’t feel anything. laurance, however, was very aware. he could feel his soul being split in half, his bones breaking and mending themselves, his teeth sharpening, his eyes enhancing. he felt every inch of it and could do nothing to stop it. sasha is still haunted by his screams.
the only thing that got him through his time in the nether and prevented him from being corrupted by gene was that he needed to make sure aphmau was ok and that she made it home safely.
when garroth first saw laurance after he’d been rescued by ungrth, he was sure he was looking at a ghost for a split second.
laurance writes poetry in his free time, sometimes reciting it to cadenza to ask her opinion. it’s usually not great….
when laurance was about 9, both his parents died to to illness. he was forced to the streets and had to resort to stealing. he had been doing this for a couple years when one fateful day he tried stealing some bread from a little girl he’d never seen in town before. she caught him and cheerfully brought him to her fathers asking “can we keep him??” that girl was cadenza.
he hates wearing armor. it’s heavy and clunky and loud. he much prefers to wear normal street clothes much to garroth’s disapproval.
he loves cooking and does all the cooking in the guard station. he’s pretty good at it too.
he has nightmares due to his time in the nether. sometimes he’ll yelp or scream out. whenever this happened while he was living in the guard station, garroth would come into his room to pull him out of it and comfort him after he came to. garroth got hit a lot as a result. gar never minded but laurance still feels guilty.
the darkness on his fingers is due to being only half a shadow knight. the longer a shadow knight lives, the further up the darkness creeps, only stopping once the calling is answered (if you know what i mean) or until it reaches the shoulders/hips.
the tattoo on his palms are the source of all his shadow knight abilities and the scars on his face enhance them.
so… in this universe aaron is not alina’s father… it’s laurance….! he found out about aphmau’s pregnancy the same way he did in canon only this time he didn’t leave out of anger or betrayal. it was because the calling was becoming too much to handle. he loves aphmau so much but as long as the shadow lord lived he would only be able to see her with an ancient hatred in his bones. he feared he’d hurt her or their child so he left for their safety.
aphmau never knew that he knew about their child, but when she went to the nether to find him, he asked her name.
his shadow knight armor isn’t… armor…. it’s more like a shell, designed to look as intimidating as possible and be as sharp as possible. it materializes whenever his shadow knight form pops out or whenever his body thinks he’s in need of protection.
once when aphmau was trying to pull him out of his shadow form she cut her hand on it. she has a scar from it and he can’t look at it without feeling guilty.
every so often his vision goes. usually when he’s extremely angry or stressed his vision will just. go. it normally only lasts a few seconds or minutes but each time it happens he can’t help but think “this is it. this is when my vision is taken from me once and for all.”
alrighty! that’s all i have for now! i’m sorry i know that was a lot but i just love this guy so much you don’t understand 😭 i hope you enjoyed and feel free to add any more larry headcanons you have
next up is very talented seamstress

Aphblr give the characters better disabled representation please challenge.
Start making Laurance blind, either fully or partially, his eyes are blue because he was blinded. "but he was cured" who cares? that trope sucks ass, yall.
Start actually taking Zanes blindness into consideration, he is blind in one eye, that is why he covers that eye.
Give Travis struggles due to the forever potions, his eyes are green from failed potions, give those some physical effects. Maybe his vision is bad because his eyes are constantly clouded with green.
Give Garroth and Katelyn issues from their childhood forever potions, maybe they have motor skill issues from it. Maybe that's why Garroth breaks things so often, on top of being super strong.
Take WAF into consideration,
Aaron was blinded and he had struggles walking alone, he was shown in a wheelchair. He had memory struggles, severely, while that can go away with time - it doesn't always go away.
Travis was also shown in a wheelchair, he was stabbed many times - through the spine, that can paralyze people from the wound down.
Aphmau was on bed rest from being very weak after the events, maybe she has some lasting physical struggles from the fight and strain on her body from relics. ALSO SHE LITERALLY DIED....... that is gonna mess with her body.
Zane also had memory loss, he is shown to do a little better with it, but again - it can either go away, or not. Also, he was kinda stabbed through the shoulder, that arm is gonna be weaker.
You headcanon characters as autistic or adhd?? SHOW THE STRUGGLES, show the less talked about traits. Be realistic. Give actual representation for everyone.
Give characters other disabilities, give them personality disorders or psychosis, dont be afraid to actually deepdive into a character and give them some good rep.
Give the characters complex dissociative disorders, make the characters realistically dyslexic or something. idk.
Give characters like Ein OSDD-2, aka a case of identity disturbance due to prolonged coercion or - basically 'brainwashing'.
Give them arthritis, and any other physical disabilities, research and get creative.
I repeat,
Get creative.

As someone who is currently rewatching all of Aphmau's series and has major brain rot over the Aphverse, i am desperate to find a fic where some of the mystreet people get somehow transported to the MCD universe. BECAUSE IMAGINE THE ANGST POTENTIAL IF MYSTREET!ZANE WAS IN THIS GROUP OMG.
MCD!Garroth having to see what he could have had with his own brother if things were different is breaking my heart.
OH OH OH BUT ALSO
Right imagine this little mystreet group is also when they're teenagers, smol little Zane being transported to a world where pretty much everyone despises him because MCD!Zane is the embodiment of evil.
Like, maybe little Aphmau and Zane get separated from the others and end up in Phoenix drop, they manage to make it to the town square where Molly is coming back from praying to Irene, and she sees Zane, the man who hurt her precious baby and used dark magic on their town. Molly then runs to alert whichever guard she can find (it just so happens that Laurence, Garroth and Dante are all leaving the guard tower for their respective patrols at that moment)
These men run to the town square, fearing the place they are sworn to protect is under attack by one of the most dangerous tyrants of their time, and they come to find not only Zane (who's looking around with a sour look on his face, and albeit a little smaller than Garroth remembers) but also the woman they spend their lives protecting (and two of said party are definitely, totally, not in love with her...)
And when i say they're teenagers, i mean the first season of PDH vibes, so Zane and Aphmau with these squeaky voices and no social skills, and Aphmau has spent most of her time looking around in awe up until that point because OH MY IRENE ZANE IT'S JUST LIKE MY GAME!!!
Laurence moves first, rushing over he knocks Zane to the ground harshly before yanking Aphmau away, to which she screams because this tall, scar covered, very scary looking version of her friend (or maybe crush depending on when in PHD this happens) has picked her up far too easily for her liking and she's worried about Zane.
Then Garroth and Dante move in, and suddenly Zane is being looked down upon by his big brother with such a look of disgust and hatred that has never happened before. Garroth loves Zane. Sure they disagree and fight every now and then, they're brothers, but Zane knows Garroth loves him and would keep him safe, and even though he wouldn't admit it, Zane loves his brother too. But the scary and hate filled man standing above him does not make Zane feel safe, and a flush of fear runs through him, followed by watery eyes and embarrassment because why is he feeling so weak and despised by one of the only men in his life who's provided a steady stream of love (unlike his dad)
And when Zane pulls his shaking hands up in surrender, with this wounded animal look upon his face, MCD!Garroth almost has to double take, because not even as children has he ever seen Zane look at him with such fear, the only man who'd ever brought fear upon Zane's face was their father, and maybe that gives Garroth his own little internal crisis because he's tried so hard to be nothing like dear old dad.
BUT ALSO, LETS PICTURE THIS
The rest of the group (let's say...Laurence, KC and Garroth) show up, and they try to find a way home without the help of the villagers of Phoenix drop, only to be attacked and have Zane kidnapped by people MCD!Zane has royally pissed off. The little group run back to Phoenix drop for help, and all the MCD lot just can't seem to understand why these little versions of themselves/their friends want to help Zane of all people so badly. It takes the Garroths having a full on row over it and Mystreet!Aph breaking down in tears to get people to help (because how can Laurence and Garroth watch a small version of the woman they love sob and not do something to try and help?) and obvi Lord Aphmau was on board the moment they asked and was going to do it alone before her Guards through out their protests and Little Garroth decided to cuss out MCD!Garroth for "abandoning his baby brother" (which is where the fight started)
...
Maybe I should write this myself...
Anyway, that's where my brain has gotten me today.

(this mostly takes place in my au’s timeline, but) To compliment my earlier post about Garroth:
Laurance’s demeanor completely shifts after he becomes a Shadow Knight. Before he was bright, jovial, and very playful, you could always count on him to make you laugh. But after his death, getting him to laugh the way he used to would be considered a miracle.
He’s full-on depressed. He struggles from a form of C-PTSD due to what his time in the Nether put him through. He’s still just as gentle and kind and loving as he was before, but his old light is gone. His best days are still weighed down by an afternoon spent low, tired, and empty, and his worst days are rife with panic attacks and paranoia.
So Garroth becomes pretty perfect company for Laurance during this time.
Laurance often flinches at unexpected touch, it shocks him pretty badly, due to the extensive physical torture he went through. A lot of physical touch with him has now been associated with a fear-based adrenaline response—a trauma response. Garroth finds out about this pretty quickly.
Garroth is a very gentle man. He’s the kind of guy you could find cradling an injured bird in his big, meaty hands, and he’d never hurt it, he’d be as delicate and careful as a surgeon. So little by little, he rewrites Laurance’s brain by changing his association with physical touch, from pain, to gentle, pleasant, warm affection. He takes care of him. It’s like he becomes the emotional support golden retriever to his cheetah of nerves lol
He notices the small, new scars on Laurance’s face, so later that night he’d try to rest a hand on his cheek. Laurance would be tense and wary at first, but he wouldn’t push him away. So Garroth would start to softly rub his skin with his thumb, speaking to him all quiet and soothing, until Laurance leans into the touch and closes his eyes. He would remember the man he knew and loved before, who he knew he could trust. Sometimes you just…forget all of that, when you’ve been through a lot.
Garroth cups his face with his other hand. He’d keep his hand still for another moment, testing his reaction and checking in with him to make sure the touch is okay, and once Laurance gives him the a-okay, he’d caress his face and give him a soft kiss on the top of his head. He’d tell him that he loves him, very much. Laurance whispers it back, voice wavering and weak. They would linger there for a while.
In the beginning, Laurance would spend his nights keeping distance from Garroth and Aphmau, when before, the three of them used to regularly sleep in the same bed. He says that since he’s an undead Shadow Knight now, his body doesn’t need to sleep, so he’ll make himself useful and stand guard, keeping watch for the whole night. Plus, it’s probably too dangerous for something like him to be trusted around them at night. They protest, saying they know their Laurance would never hurt them, but he puts his foot down and insists that Shad would, if he got control of his mind while they were asleep. It could put them in serious trouble. He fights them on it hard enough that the two relent and let him stand guard outside.
They know he’s doing it to isolate himself, to keep them at arms length. They worry about him.
After a while though, he’d start to come back to them. He’d go to Garroth first.
(Garroth and Laurance, being Aphmau’s 24/7 bodyguards, would absolutely get their own rooms and living space added on to the Aphmau family house-now-a-mansion. There’s no way they can feasibly live in the Guard Tower on the other side of town and sleep there every night while Aphmau is left alone to be perfectly assassinated by the hundreds of night-dwelling Shadow Knights and creatures after her head. The woman has a massive blinking red target on her back, there’s no way she sleeps alone with no one but Zoe and the kids living in the house with her)
It’s likely the isolation pushing him to the brink that would make him crack. Without Garroth’s frequent gestures of affection and reassurance that “he can always come to him if he needs anything, even if he feels ashamed about it, Garroth’s doors are always open no matter what, NO MATTER WHAT,” he would probably just run away into the woods and cry under a tree somewhere when his thoughts and flashbacks get too loud to bear. But because of the support he’d been showing him the past few weeks, he does the unthinkable and caves in.
Garroth would be sleeping in his own separate bedroom when he’d wake up from the sound of someone else entering his quarters. He’d jump to sit up and confront the intruder, but then he’d stop at the sight of Laurance already climbing into bed. “Do you mind?” He would whisper, and any Defense Reflex at the shadowy stranger appearing in his bedroom would melt away at the tone of his quiet, quiet voice and the broken look in Laurance’s eyes. “No, no, of course I don’t mind, is everything alright?” He’d catch his breath and ask. “Yeah, it-…it’s fine, I just-…don’t like being alone with my thoughts tonight, that’s all.” Garroth would make room for Laurance to sleep next to him. He wonders if this would be the first time Laurance had slept since his return. “Well, you won’t be alone anymore,” he’d smile. Laurance would give a low, quiet whisper, “Thanks, big guy.” Garroth would get settled after him, wrapping his arms around him and bringing him in for a long-missed cuddle. Laurance would let out a sigh and finally, finally relax, just letting everything wash away and be replaced with the warmth of an embrace and a kiss on his head. “…thank you.”
Laurance would fall asleep for the first time in a long time.
He would sleep for over 12 hours, totally sleeping in for hours. Garroth would let him sleep in peace—heaven only knows how rare it is for him now—and he’d eventually wake up to Garroth making him a very nice breakfast. He’s surprised and nervous over it, insisting that he doesn’t need to eat, he really didn’t have to waste their food and spice supply on him, but Garroth insists with the same gentle, warm smile he always has, and Laurance relents. It tastes great. It’s a very nice relief to have another physical sensation that’s actually pleasant, and as a sweet, personal gift for him no less. It’s a strong reminder of his humanity, and a helpful way to reshape how he thinks about his body and physical sensations.
He asks how Garroth managed to make something this good. Garroth sheepishly admits he asked Zoe (the best cook in the house, when it comes to anything but Laurance’s family specialty: seafood) for help and advice. He chuckles.
Garroth sees how much this helps his day be worlds better, so he and Aphmau conspire to create as many more moments like that as possible. They convince Laurance to make the amazing cooked fish dinner he used to make for them all the time, and they rev him up about it enough to convince him to show them and walk them through it while they watch in awe from the dining table behind him. He shows off for the first time since his disappearance, getting an inch of his confidence back. They convince him to dish up, and the happy, nostalgic memories of Meteli and his dads’ cooking nearly makes him cry.
Aphmau and Garroth share a triumphant high-five once his back is turned.
The first time Laurance feels comfortable and safe enough to be fully vulnerable and bare with Garroth, also known as the first time he takes his shirt off in front of him lol, Garroth would definitely be shocked and worried about just how many scars he has, all over his upper body. His armor covers a lot of his body from view, and whenever he’s just walking around the house in casual clothes or pajamas, Garroth couldn’t help but take notice of the fact that he’d always wear long sleeves. Old Laurance would walk around ass-naked all the time if it was legal, but ever since his death, he’s been hiding as much skin as possible, so it’s a big ass deal when he first opens up to Garroth physically. (how do they NOT have a physical relationship in canon it iS SO IMPLICIT—)
It is a MASSIVE silent sign of trust. Garroth would try his hardest to not to freak out over all the new scars, but there’s no way he’s not worrying. He’d gently trace his thumb over some of the scars on his sides. Laurance would mumble under his breath how he got them, avoiding eye contact. Garroth would want to cry for him, with how terribly empathetic and sorrowful and worried he’d be for Laurance. He asks if he can hug him, Laurance hesitates, then nods, and the two embrace. Garroth would tell him he’s so, so sorry that this happened to him, how terribly it must have hurt. Laurance starts to say, “It’s fine,” but he gets about halfway through “it’s” before he starts to cry. He’d hold on to Garroth very tightly. He’s like his rock, that he never ever ever wants to let go of again, so maybe if he holds on tight enough, it’ll burn into his brain that he’s here now, safe in the Overworld, safe in his arms, and his light, his knight in shining armor, his Garroth, will never leave. They’d spend a good few hours cradled like that, probably in bed, they’d probably lay down and just cuddle until they get called to work (Laurance tries to apologize for killing the mood, Garroth stops him mid-sentence, demanding he NEVER apologize AGAIN for having natural reactions like this. Laurance laughs and makes a tired comment about how Garroth’s not the same doormat he met years ago, and Garroth says that’s entirely thanks to him. ,,Laurance hides his face).
Hell, even the first kiss on the lips they share since his return would be a huge deal too, because of how strongly Laurance feels ashamed and scared of himself and his body. He is terrified that someone loving him will get them hurt—or worse, murdered at his own hands, and guilt over getting his loved ones killed was a big sticking point with Laurance already. He’d struggle a lot with opening up to Garroth and Aphmau at first. And of course, Garroth would end up warming him out of his shell, which, to him, would be a very strange thing to have to do for the world’s most passionate, romantic knight, but it happens between them regardless. It happens with them in all fields of their relationship.
Until soon enough, Laurance is sleeping between them again.
He really starts to feel human again, laying beside the two of them.
Garroth would keep doing everything in his power to get him back, little by little. He’d keep giving him hugs, until Laurance ends up relaxing into every single one, until he reaches the point where he wraps his arms around him and hugs him back, until eventually he’s the one reaching for it and tackling Garroth like he used to. Cuddles turn from something he’s hesitant to trust, to something incredibly healing. He holds him very, very gently in his hands, and it’s that gentleness, that unconditional kindness that never goes away, that warmth, that soft smile, that would push him back on his feet. He needs the specific way that Garroth loves and gives affection more than anything during this time in his life, and Garroth is there to give it every step of the way. After all, that’s what Laurance did for him, back when they first met. When he lost Zenix, when he lost Zane, when he was recovering from his family’s damage. Laurance teaches Garroth to finally fight back, stand up for himself, and love himself for all that he is. Then Laurance falls next, and Garroth is there to pick him back up again. He teaches him how to relax, how to trust and be vulnerable and know that he’s safe, how to be himself again. He undoes everything The Shadow Lord and Gene do to break down his individuality, he gives him back his fire and his strength. That way, when things do get bad and Shad starts to control him again, he has enough strength in him built up to say fuck no, to punch back, and make a new name for himself under The Shadow Knight Rebellion. He can stand and fight again, against the very forces that broke him, he can face them head-on and bite back, for himself, for everyone he’s ever loved, because he had someone there to pick him up in the first place.
Laurance needs Garroth. He would be a very, very different man without him. He likely would’ve given up on his humanity entirely if Garroth was never someone to come back to, considering that he’d be far too dangerous to return to Irene of all people. But it’s not just Aphmau he came back for, she’s there to support and help him too, obviously, but if it were JUST her?
He would’ve given up on everything the second he found out what he’d become. Garroth is just that kind of..beacon of a person to make even a man stuck in the darkest pits of hell believe in a second chance for himself. It becomes about more than just “Protect Irene” and more about “do it for the loves of your life that you can’t let go of no matter how hard you try. Do it for your family, even if you’ve grievously let them down, because you still love them too much to abandon them. Do it for your sons, that have suffered through enough and deserve a brighter future. Do it for your home. Everyone in the village is counting on you. Do it for what it means to you. Because there’s far more than just your knightly honor at stake here.”
They all need each other. Garroth and Laurance need each other, desperately. They can’t stay standing by themselves for too long, they need the other man to fall back on when life takes a baseball bat to their ankles. They can’t do it alone. They crumble and (literally) die when they do it alone.
Garroth and Laurance make an inseparable team.

Hey guyyyys!! I'm baaack with a fresh batch of Laurance angst brought to you by "I really like this random design detail and will try my damnedest to make it make sense." The design detail in question is heterochromia!
Today's programming involves discussion of torture and probably some body horror
So, I'm a big believer in heterochromatic Laurance. It's just real to me. Because honestly both of his very distinct looks are serving cunt in very distinct Laurance Zvahl ways. I have a preference for his original appearance because I have a few bones to pick with Jessica's design decisions, but the pale blue and even blind eyes fit Laurance really well.
In a separate iteration of Laurance I made him lose one of his eyes before the rebirth process, so his heterochromia was unrelated to the whole pseudo-zombie thing. But in MCD... Well... Everything comes back to Shadow Knights.
Little Larry has beautiful emerald green eyes that then get utterly destroyed by the cruelness of the hell he willingly threw himself into to save those he loves. And uhhh, Laurance in canon says he was tortured down there. So let's get into that, shall we? Now, a thing about torture methods is that there's a lot of them, they're really easy to come up with if you have even a slightly sadistic mindset, and they are often focused. Most people who frequently engage in torture chose one field of the body to focus on.
Now let's look at Gene. Obviously for his magical and psychological torture, his focus is on the mind. But what about his physical methods? Obviously Gene gets his kicks out of people in pain, yet I think his real focus is when it gets personal. When someone isn't just in pain, but they are crying, shaking, writhing in agony while staring up at him cursing his bloodline. The eyes are the window into the mind and they say so much that the mouth can't when words fail or are restricted.
Gene focuses on eyes. He remembers them. They haunt him. When he's learning how to break people, he learns how to use their very sense of sight against them. It's already what he knows how to do with his magic and extreme gaslighting tactics. If he has a focus, if he has a piece of information he needs, and he has a target, then he'll focus on the eyes. If he, for example, thinks that Laurance has more information on either realm barriers or Aphmau, who is quickly becoming a point of interest for the Shadow King, then he'll have a reason.
But he can't possibly permanently ruin both of Laurance's eyes. He still needs another for at least semi-proper comprehension of how fucked he is. Gene doesn't need more than one eye. And I like to characterize Gene as a bit of a mad scientist, testing out his magic and Shadow Knight powers in extreme and unhinged ways.
Who knows what he did to Laurance's eye, what happened when he destroyed it and regenerative powers brought it back over and over. What effects traversing between realms had on whatever the fuck Gene did to make it so bad it didn't even resemble his original eye color.
Irene's blessing is able to mitigate the damage on his other eye, the one that was only blinded by realm travel, and bring it almost back to its original state. A pale sage color that has partial but still restricted vision. Laurance is grateful for what little eyesight he has. His other eye, the one Gene targeted... It doesn't come back. After the realm barrier blinded it, there was no undoing the damage anymore. It remains a cloudy pale blue, scars running across the skin around it and through his retinas.
I want to make it clear that Laurance isn't ashamed of this. He doesn't try to hide his eye, but he is cagey to answer questions about it. Most people are smart enough not to question, and he'll open up to the people he cares about (ie Garroth and Aphmau) when he's ready. I have a whole arc related to his blindness that's a whole side blog post I'm working on, but Laurance doesn't forsake the sight he has and he also doesn't lament what he's lost.
"Cad[endza] and Aphmau keep saying they want to bring my sight back. [I] know they mean well but... I can't tell them what happened. I don't think either one of them could take it. Garroth might be able to, but I don't think either of us trust each other enough for that conversation yet. I don't need my eyesight back, and I don't need anyone to fix my left eye. If they knew what that monster did, they would be grateful I have an eye to be blinded.
He doesn't encourage anyone to try and bring it back, and he might even get upset if they're too insistent about it. He's not exactly eager for another magic user to get their hands too close to an already severely damaged eye. He might not say it out loud to someone, but... [blinks my gay little eyes] There's a page in his journal that reads--

I’ve had the realization that we as a fandom have been sleeping on roleswap AUs
Just imagine. Garroth the mysterious man who woke up and chose kindness, landing himself the role of lord.
Laurance, the runaway who has grown out his hair, dyed it orange, and uses some sort of magic to change his eyes to hide from his family, only to be found by his ruthless sister who sees through it all because who do you think taught him those tricks?
Aphmau the cocky head guard of a nearby village who drops horrifically tacky yet somehow charismatic pun based pick up lines and becomes a shadow knight.
And it wouldn’t have to stop there. Lucinda the Irene Obsessed Scholar. KC/Nana the young and scrappy but overwhelmingly talented guard who uses unconventional weapons (her Claws and Dolls). Aaron the juror who goes against O’Khasis to help this small town. Emmalyn the witch. Nicole the lonesome baker. The POSSIBILITIES.

BRO. NEW FAN!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE YOUR GENE FICS!!!!!
So much, that I come requesting 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Bully!Gene(if you do that, if not then teenager Gene) x smart or very intelligent reader :)) can be romantic or platonic!!
Tumblr media
𝐔𝐍𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄𝐋𝐘 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐓𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐎𝐑
𝐏𝐀𝐈𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆: pdh gene x fem!reader
𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐘: how ironic is it, when you have to run to someone you’re scared of for protection. maybe, though, you don’t need to be as scared as you are.
𝐓𝐀𝐆𝐒: hurt/comfort, slight angst, unsaid feelings from gene but could also be seen as platonic, “i bully her but only i can bully her” ahh trope, i had to give high school gene some masked redeeming qualities because i said so, gene still being gene in high school (so cussing and delinquent behavior, but not towards reader), he scares you a lil but doesn’t actually bully you
𝐂𝐖: reader is bullied by other students, mentions of violence
𝐀/𝐍: i took offff with this trope bro i lowkey wanna write a whole fic rather than a oneshot about this. i relate so much to the goody two shoes smarty pants reader because that’s still me out of high school tbh hahaha thank you for the prompt anon! (also, the scenario was inspired by a clip of a cdrama i saw one time)

you’re not sure why it started. you’re not even sure when.
was it because you were friends with aphmau? or garroth? because you followed the rules and made good grades? or were you just an easy target?
at first, she had only sent glares your way, cerise hair framing that ugly grimace she’d reserved for you when no one was looking. sometimes she’d spit a snide comment or two, aiming to berate you and take you down from the core. but then it got worse. you were “bumped into”. then shoved outright. threatening notes were tucked in your locker when you weren’t looking.
she must have realized people would believe you if you told someone. you had a good standing, kept to yourself, didn’t go out of your way for attention. and she had a reputation to keep, too.
you were shocked, when one day she had stopped. she didn’t speak to you, didn’t hit you. hell, she didn’t even go near you. but it wasn’t because she was done with you, it was because it was going to get worse.
students you didn’t even know started approaching you, accusing you of things you’d never done, berating you, and if no one was looking…
you had wondered every possibility of why and when.
but now, you don’t think of any of that, as a group of boys chased you through the empty halls, spatting unrepeatable insults and threats of violence that you sure weren’t just empty promises. you could barely think—barely breathe and stay ahead—as you sprinted through the side of the school that somehow no teacher nor student could be seen to help.
you still kept your destination set on one spot, a place that would either save you or make your situation a thousand times worse. it was your only option, though, ironically as it was.
bursting through the doors of the school’s outdoor shed, you nearly collapsed in relief at the sight of him—your bleak sliver of hope for survival.
hooded eyes meet yours curiously from under thick lashes and messy black hair, before snapping to the group of boys racing in behind you like a pack of hyenas. his jaw snaps in place, nearly squishing the half burned cigarette that hung from his lips. he sits up from his spot on some stacked gym mats, his purposefully disheveled uniform even messier than usual. they freeze at the doorway, nearly tumbling over the other as their eyes widen at the sight.
“get the fuck out.” is all he has to say, lifting a scabbed-over hand to flick ash in their direction as they scramble back out of sight.
your relief is short lived, you realize, as you’re now left alone with him. you anxiously shy away from his dark blue gaze, your legs wobbling as they try to take you towards the door. you nearly jump out of your own skin when his tall build quickly intercepts your path, his arm lazily reaching out to shut the door and seclude the two of you inside.
“not you.”
you back up as he begins to pace toward you, every two steps you take one of his before you’re finally stopped by the shelf behind you. the scent of a musky cologne and cigarette smoke invades your senses as he also stops, face merely inches away from yours as he looks down at you.
“how did you know i was in here?”
you quickly turn to try and run around him, but his hand connects against the shelf to your right. as you flinch and try to turn the other way his other arm has already pinned you in, leaving you completely trapped.
“i’m sorry.” you finally muster, head ducked as you stare at the ground in front of you. “i didn’t know.”
“so you just happened to run into me here in a place no one has caught me in, yet, huh?” he tilts his head. “you thought it would be smart to run in a secluded area with no escape while a group of boys was after you, is that it?”
you stay silent, fighting away the tears of exhaustion and anxiety biting at your eyes. gene looks away from you towards the door again, plucking the cigarette from his lips and exhaling more smoke from his lungs.
his eyes flick back down to you, watching as your features flinch in displeasure and nausea as some of the smoke catches in your face. a second passes before he drops it to the concrete flooring, putting out the lit paper and nicotine under his shoe.
“you may be smarter than me when it comes to academics but i’m not falling for that. you think i haven’t noticed you watching me? somehow always “running into me” when you’re in trouble?”
the blood drains from your face as you realize you’ve been caught, your teary eyes dreadfully trained at the wall.
“it’s kind of rude to take advantage of me like that and not pay me back…” he trails, calculating eyes trained on every reaction and expression you give. “maybe i’ll make you join my group and do my dirty work for me.”
you curse internally at the tears that fall from your eyes, unable to contain themselves in your eyes as they spill over. an embarrassed moment passed before a busted up hand brushes against your cheek, catching the delicate and salty liquid on his fingers. you flinch, finally facing him as your reddened eyes meet his. his expression is unreadable, making a face you hadn’t seen on him before.
“nah. you wouldn’t be able to handle it.” he finally says, his voice nearly startling you.
a couple seconds more pass as he stares at your silent tears, eyebrows furrowing before he makes a noise somewhere between a scoff and a sigh. he straightens his posture, lifting his arms away and releasing you from his trap.
“they should be gone now.” he waves his hand, motioning towards the shed door for you to leave when you don’t move as if his intentions had been obvious in the first place.
“go.”
“what? you don’t want anything?” you ask, voice wobbling.
“i don’t care for ivy’s style. and people like you aren’t any fun to mess with, anyways...” he says, his eyes finally leaving yours for once as he stares off at the wall behind you, rolling his tongue against the inside of his cheek.
you hesitate a second more, but you don’t have time to dissect his body language or choice of words, so you quickly head towards the door. you pause one last time before running out, turning to him again.
“thank you.”
and then you’re gone. gene groans, cursing under his breath and running his hand through his hair as he trails to the doorway to watch you disappear back into the school again. you weren’t sure how to feel when your aggressors stopped approaching you so much, their presence replaced by a distant glimpse you’d catch of messy black hair in your peripheral. sometimes you’d even notice sasha or zenix quietly trailing after you in the hall, but you knew better than to question it, gratefully keeping your head down.

Garroth couldn’t express how he felt properly so the only way he could was through poetry.
Nobody knew about it, except Dale.
After Garroth goes missing, Dale holds onto the poetry. He tucks it away and keeps it safe.
Aphmau (and Laurance) never read the poems written about them. The verses describing the light in their eyes, the twinkle in their voice, the flutter he feels look at them.
It’s all hidden

“I know what you’re going to say Garroth.”
Tumblr media
Three years. Three years with no word. No way of knowing whether he was alive or dead.
Then suddenly, a message from Brightport.
Garroth and Aphra boarded on the next ship over, neither quite sure how to feel. He was their friend, he had done so much for them. But he had also left, and neither were sure if their friend they had known would be there when they arrived.
Their ship docked and Katelyn briefed them on what had happened. He had come through alone, and they had destroyed the portal behind him. He was injured, acting strangely. so they had put him in a holding cell. He’d calmed down, but she wasn’t taking any chances.
She took them down to where he was being held. Aphra couldn’t face him. He and Garroth were at least able to have some reconciliation that night, the last thing she had done was fight with him. She feared seeing that hatred on his face again, the final blow that would confirm their friendship was forever lost. So Garroth went in alone.
His emotions had been… complicated the past three years.
Sometimes it was worry, where all he could think about was charging straight through that portal and getting him back. But Garroth knew he didn’t want to be followed.
Sometimes it was sorrow, where he would lie in bed for hours, hoping that if he closed his eyes hard enough it would all have turned out to be a bad dream and Garroth would wake up beside him again. But his duties would always pull him out of bed and back to work.
Sometimes it was anger. Anger so hot he would stare out at his garden and imagine tearing every plant to pieces as some kind of revenge. But he knew he had no right to feel angry about it, not after his own self-sacrificing stunts.
And sometimes, it was hope. He resented that feeling most at times. It kept him from moving on, kept him wasting time tending the garden and kept him from throwing that damned ring into the ocean despite the pain it caused him. But no matter how hard he tried to reason with himself, to talk himself out of it, that feeling of hope never truly faded.
But none of that mattered now. Because he was here, standing right in front of him. Garroth could barely register what he was seeing, much less how he felt about. All he could do was slowly walk forward.
As Garroth moved closer, he began to ramble out an apology, his eyes flitting around the room but never making eye contact. Garroth wasn’t listening.
He was here. He had come back. Garroth stepped closer.
He began to look panicked, stepping back from Garroth until his back pressed against the wall.
Laurance was here. Garroth reached towards him.
Tears begin to well in Laurance’s eyes, finally looking at Garroth as he demanded he say something. Garroth cupped his face hesitantly, afraid that touching him would reveal this as some kind of dream or illusion. But he was here. Garroth could feel the warmth of Laurance’s skin through his gloved hand. Feeling his own eyes begin to burn, he managed to speak.
“You’re as beautiful as the day I lost you.”

MORE MCD!LAUR HEADCANONS
-Laurance doesn't sleep through the night so he takes naps throughout the day
-Laurance sometimes goes to Lucinda's house just to hang out or get some of her pumpkin pie
-Garroth said Laurance "fights dirty" after a 1v1 training session between the two
-Laurance says that Joh (his adoptive dad) was the best influence on him
-Laurance can't talk about Joh without it bringing him to tears, so he usually doesn't talk about it
-Aphmau never told Laurance that Sasha killed Joh. Once Laurance found out, he began losing trust in her.
-Laurance talks about Garroth a lot... like too much...
-Laurance can't sleep unless he knows that everyone else in whatever building he's in is safe, so he goes around making sure everyone is okay before he sleeps.
-When he was blind, Laurance had a staff that he used to find his way around when no one was with him. He still has it to this day.
-Laurance's automatic response to being frightened is to punch. This once lead to Cadenza getting a black eye and a lot of new sewing equipment.
-Laurance knows how to sew, but he's no where near as good as Cadenza.
-Laurance has the mindset that anyone who harms a child is unforgivable.
-Emmalyn once asked Laurance what being a Shadow Knight was like, since he's the only one in Pheonix Drop, which lead to hours of borderline trauma dumping that the two keep to themselves.
-Laurance sometimes goes to Cadenza's house after having nightmares, so she gave him a key.
-Laurance thinks marriage is kinda dumb
-Laurance sometimes avoids people, but he doesn't know why
-Laurance loosens up a LOT around Cadenza and Garroth, but Garroth didn't know that thats what was happening until Cadenza told him
-Cadenza and Laurance embarrass eachother all the time.
-Dante once asked what Joh was like, and was met with hours worth of stories from Laurance.
-Laurance visits Ungreth's grave a lot with offerings and once fell asleep there, which led to him getting yelled at by Garroth for worrying everyone
-Garroth and Dante are morning people but Laurance really isn't
-Laurance once snapped at Dante because he kept asking about the Nether, although he did apologize for it later.
-When Malachi was in a coma, Laurance did his best to make sure Aphmau and Levin were alright while Lucinda focused on Malachi
-Laurance puts himself into harms way all the time
-Laurance likes shiny things, like coins, so Garroth and Dante got him some of Zoey's fairy lights
-(in s2) Aphmau let Laurance watch Lilith Garnet a few times, but stopped because he accidently taught her how to say "fuck" and "motherfucker"
-Laurance thinks it's hilarious when young children curse
-(didn't know how to put this one into normal format so here):
Garroth: Laurance I need you to swear-
Laurance: FUCK
Garroth: ... swear as in promise!
BAM! THERE!

Like 5 people said yes to mcd rewrite, so I think I'll go through the characters I've got drawn on my pc, starting with Laurence!! W/ some lore ofc. (lore beneath the cut)
In my rewrite Laurence meets Aphmau (renamed Phoebe/Penelope [which i will be using for the rest of the post]) kind of similarly to how he meets her in the original story BUT the whole crazy cat lady thing and the chicken shaman are cut - Cadenza is still missing though, and it seems like everyone's super upset about it EXCEPT for Kenmur (who was pretty known from moving on from Sasha's death so quickly to get with Cadenza), so Laurence asks for Penelope to help look for his sister in return for a ride to Scaleswind on his wyvern.
They go search the woods and find Cadenza and her "kidnapper", Sasha - Who had faked her kidnapping to prove to Cadenza that Kenmur *sucks* and doesn't care about her. (A girls helping girls moment, as my friend had called it). Originally Sasha had been sent to keep an eye on Penelope by Gene (who's shockingly worse actually), but after being away from Gene's influence for a long period of time she decides to jump ship in regards to her allegiance to Gene.
Unfortunately, when Penelope returns on her way back to Phoenix Drop, Gene had kidnapped Sasha to brainwash her back into wanting to be his right hand man - leaving Penelope and Laurence to go into the Nether to save her (Which ends up about the same with Laurence becoming a shadowknight).
Some time after Donna and Logan's wedding, Laurence's wyvern saves him from the Nether (and DOESN'T die from crossing the realm barrier... because that was so unesscessary.)
It goes about the same from there on except that Laurence's vision never really improves and he's left legally blind. He still ends up being one of Penelope's guards, and maybe sorta kinda romancing Garroth (they both think they're GREAT at gay chicken).
Bonus Laurence from his first appearance.

xerith u know ima take advantage of the scene rewrite offer. hit me with that s2 ep52 scene where laurance cuts off aphmau in her (very demeaning and dismissive) spiel to basically let her know that he can’t ignore the idea of the portal nearby
Went back and rewatched the episode. Realized Laurance doesn't even know the portal is fully opened. Got mad about it. Bone appetit.
I'm gonna start off the rewrite of this scene with some dialogue from the original that'll lead into the better version of the scene.
Bit of context, at this point Irena and Laurance are still together, but their relationship has become increasingly strained due to a mixture of the calling, Garroth being gone, the general horrors of MCD storytelling, and Laurance killing all those people at that wedding.
"I can't stand seeing people be forced to do something," Laurance expressed, running an uneasy hand through his hair. It was starting to get long again... "It reminds me too much of what happened in the Nether." His heart ached. "A-And it wasn't just me. Vylad, Zenix... Maybe even Vincent..."
"Laurance," Irena started carefully, hesitating before she put a hand on his shoulder. "I understand what you're trying to do. And my answer is yes, you may turn into a Shadow Knight in order to learn how to control it. But please... Please..." Her voice broke slightly on the second please. "Don't let your emotions control your actions."
"I-I'm sorry. I think I'm just... Off." His eyes drifted to the cave entrance. He could feel the energy present pulling him in. Calling him. It was stronger than it had ever been. He couldn't tell if it was because of himself or the portal.
"It's okay. Just let me handle it." She pulled her hand away, the warmth present from it evaporating in an instant. It left Laurance feeling cold.
"What, the portal? I-I've been to the Nether, I feel like I'm the best to assess it."
"Laurance, I don't... I don't think that's a good idea."
"Why not?"
"Because who knows if it's active or not--"
"You know." Irena froze. "You know because you activated it."
"Vylad told you?"
"He wanted to make sure I knew before I approached it." Laurance looked back to her, basically forcing eye contact despite the lack of need for it.
"I was trying to seal it..."
"You should know you can't do that."
"It worked before, didn't it?! I saw the wolves do it!"
"The wolves were trained to do it, Irena. Their elder was an expert in realm magic, that's why he looked after the portal. Don't you realize you put yourself in danger with a stunt like that? What if it had rebounded onto you and hurt you?" Irena looked away, even taking a step towards the portal.
"Still, I don't think it's a good idea for you to go to it."
"Don't avoid the conversation." Despite being blind, he reached perfectly for her shoulder, forcing her to stay even if she couldn't look at him. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"I--"
"And don't tell me that you didn't think it was important." Irena went silent. "How long were you planning on lying to me?"
"...I wasn't lying to you."
"You just weren't going to tell me the truth."
"Laurance, I-I didn't want you to worry about it. I figured we'd come up with some solution eventually to close it--"
"And you thought I wouldn't want to help with that?!"
"We don't know what'll happen if you go near it!"
"Vylad said he was fine standing next to it!"
"But Vylad has 15 years of controlling this! I didn't want to risk you losing control if you got too close."
"If that's the case, why didn't you tell me you tried to seal it in the first place? Why didn't you tell me it got worse? What if I had gone in there and it started working on me before you could catch me?"
"But that wouldn't happen--"
"Because you'd keep me on a short enough leash."
"N-No, it's not like that--"
"Then what is it like, Irena?! What was your plan here?!" She finally looked at him. Sage green eyes stared back at her. Not a hint of red in them. This wasn't the calling or the portal pulling on his anger. This was just Laurance. Knowing that, she turned away, putting her hand on his.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you." She removed his hand from her shoulder. "I won't stop you from going to the portal if you want to, but please, try to maintain control." Laurance took a shaky breath. He was tired of her running, but she wasn't going to stop. Not while they weren't home. He'd have to confront her later.
"How bad is it?"
"Vylad already told you everything, didn't he?"
"I'm not asking Vylad. I'm asking you."
"It's... Bad. Worse than any portal I've seen. The magic may not have rebounded onto me, but it did rebound. It's a portal large enough... for an army." Laurance sighed, stepping ahead of her, but stopping short.
"Next time... Please don't lie to me." She didn't respond. It made Laurance angrier. "Irena--"
"What?! What do you want from me? To lie again by saying I won't lie to you?!" He turned around in a fury. Still his eyes remained the same.
"I want you to feel like you don't have to lie to me! I-I want to have a conversation with the love of my life where I don't second guess what she tells me! How can I trust anything you say when you can't even pretend like you won't lie to me again?!"
Laurance's words echoed in the valley nearby. They echoed in his mind as they always did, as they always had since her first thought of them. Since he first found out from Vylad she didn't tell him. At first he gave her the benefit of the doubt, there was a lot going on at the time. Her focus was on the safety of her sons. But then... She still didn't tell him. And then she tried to keep him from it. How much was she going to "forget" to tell him before it was intentional? How much was he willing to tolerate?
The inability to answer those questions, the inability of both of them to answer Laurance's questions, it made him turn away. It made him walk away from her, even if he faintly heard a sniffle from her. It brought him just to the edge of the cave. He could feel the pull of the portal, like another person grabbing his arm and leading him to it. The hands even felt familiar. They felt like Gene.
Instead he turned away again. Took his stance outside the portal room with crossed arms and a furrowed brow. And even though he knew it wasn't necessary, even though he knew that he couldn't see her like this, he still narrowed his eyes at Irena as she walked into the portal room. He still glared at her when she left. He hated being angry with her, but it's all he could feel. It's all she let him feel when she tried to brush him off like that.
Irena's tendency to try and ignore unfavorable subjects was something Laurance was intimately familiar with. She did it all the time with Shadow Knight and Nether related stuff. She tried to focus on the positive and only address the negative when it was literally banging down her door demanding action. He remembered arguing with her over the chances of going to war with O'Khasis, how dismissive she was of the idea because she didn't want to believe O'Khasis would truly do that. He remembered the conversations they and Garroth had about this very issue.
The hope was that she would get better, that she would talk to them about serious issues, that she would address them properly with them. But ever since Lilian meddled in things, turned Garroth against her over a single instance, she seemingly regressed. Refused to talk to anyone about these issues unless they forced her hand. Laurance hated forcing her to do anything. He'd rather she feel comfortable just... telling him things.
That was the day Laurance started coming to terms with the inevitable fallout. Whether he wanted to or not, he knew that things were only going to get worse from here. He wasn't going to be able to be nice about this for long, and Irena always reacted badly when someone pointed out her shortcomings. What had once been a fun quirk of their banter was going to snowball into something capable of ending their relationship. He couldn't stand the thought.

"Everything after mystreet season 3 sucks"
Completely fails to acknowledge just how much better Garroth gets after season 3. In Season 4 it's still wobbly, but after that while mystreet 5 is a bad season. Garroth's characterization in mystreet season 5 (and the other seasons after mystreet season 4) are way better than in any mystreet season before.
He is shown to feel guilty and blame himself for things outside of his control that season.
He is incredibly nice and caring to Kim and looks out for her.
He shows depth and remorse; he voices who he still has nightmares after the lodge.
He is a better brother to Zane after season 4.
And while he spends most of his time being silly. In the season 5 finale, after he looks in the ultima eyes, he doesn’t blame him(unlike Derek and his dad), understands Aaron didn't mean to, and was in distress. And on top of that goes out of his way to say that it was his own fault and he should’ve looked out better.
And while he was in tons of pain, he smiled through it and wanted the rest to enjoy themselves while he was on the brink of dying.
And in mystreet season 6, after they discussed people turning into relics as a plan to defeat Michael. And the fear that they may never return. Garroth was the first person to say that he could do it, ready to sacrifice himself before any of the others.
And again Garroth is a way better brother to Zane after season 4 and the forever potion scene was gut wrenching and made so many people cry.
Not saying you have to like everything post mystreet season 3, or add it to your rewrite. But I see so many people write off everything after mystreet season 3 as bad. Meanwhile mystreet Garroth after season 4 is just far greater than before.
