Serious ask time. Not sure if my ask makes sense but, to Rock and Paper, what are ways you support your brothers when they're having a tic attack?

Paper: I ALSO TRY TO CHECK UP ON HIM AFTER! AND IF HE NEEDS WATER FOR HIS THROAT, OR SOMETHING ALONG THOSE LINES!

((he throws pillows at Tac for him to put between himself and his hands, and tells him to put on his gloves he made him if he's not already wearing them.))

Having to lock yourself in your bedroom during an extreme tic attack so you don’t hurt anyone or yourself is a feeling I wish I never had to fucking experience. I fucking hate this. Why does my brain have to work like this. Fuck.

I genuinely so scared and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to work again. I’m sobbing because I’m in so much pain. My tics last night caused me to disloacte my knee and I haven’t slept in like 3 days because they keep waking me up. I don’t know what to do.
I don’t see my new doctor until Wednesday but I can’t do this anymore. I don’t know how to make my brain feel better so it stops hurting me.
Tumblr media
I don’t know what wrong with me. I’m so confused, and terrified, I can’t see half the time, I don’t think it’s safe for me to drive anymore. Whatever is wrong with me is genuinely ruining my life. I can’t barely even eat because I can’t stop moving to get food in my mouth, and the nerves in my stomach keep going off and making me vomit.
Every-time I’ve tried to speak today I can’t even finish a sentence before I lose my train of thought. I just want it to stop. I just wanna fucking normal! What did I do to deserve any of this?!? Why am I being punished, all I’ve ever wanted is for everyone to be happy!
I need a hug 😭 please!

Little animations for my DR tic headcanons!! To be so clear this is *not* me trying to create good rep, this is explicitly me projecting my own tics onto some little guys using gimmicky plot points and then making art about it! so like. grain of salt and a little ableism cw 👍
Chiaki who freezes and shudders in overstimulating environments, ostensibly because her tics are triggered by sound/light/motion — but then in Ch.6 you learn she was actually just lagging when the computer had too much stuff to render nearby. This makes it even more disorienting postcanon when they remember the real Chiaki, who had a slightly different personality and completely different tics. Most of them were omitted from the AI because it was averaged from the memories of several students (including Hajime) who never noticed or mistook them for fidgeting — helped by the fact that her tics vanished whenever she was focusing on a game. It's convoluted but in a way that I think suits the source material lol.
Kokichi who is an expert at making tics look intentional, because he'd rather come off as "annoying on purpose" or even pretend to mock the disorder he secretly actually has than just admit there's a part of himself he can't control. And he certainly doesn’t need anyone outside DICE realizing the tics are a very honest indicator of his stress levels. He treats his own outbursts as cues to whine that he’s bored; he makes meaningful eye contact with Shuichi whenever he can’t stop blinking, because he knows it’ll make Shuichi lose his mind trying decode a Morse code message that doesn't exist; and in the killing game he pairs his motor tics with the straitjacket uniform and a cringy Joker impression to create some campy caricature of “crazy” that scares the people who are idiots (Kaito) and makes everyone else think he’s just doing an offensive bit — which, for better or worse, he kind of is.

Tourette's Awareness Month - Day 2: Keywords
Complex tic: when multiple muscle groups are used, multiple words (e.g., throwing something)
Premonitory urge: a very uncomfortable sensation (a build up of energy, electric/fiery/bubbling/tickling/crawling) that builds up before a tic. Not everyone experiences this and it doesn't happen before every tic.
Suppressing: the act of 'holding in' tics, often increasing the premonitory urge and making them worse later. Not everyone can suppress and it can only be done for so long. People may do it to avoid judgement, for safety.
Coprolalia: a socially inappropriate vocal tic (e.g., swearing, a slur)
Copropraxia: a socially inappropriate motor (physical) tic (e.g., 🖕)
Echolalia: vocally repeating other people's words or sounds, can also extend to animal sounds
Echopraxia: physically repeating others actions
Waxing: a period of increased frequency or intensity of tics, or a flare up
Waning: a period of decreased tic frequency/intensity
Tic attack: a highly intense period of constant, often intense, tics, completely uncontrollable and unstoppable
Trigger: something that sets off a person's tics or a particular tic
Dystonic tics: slower tics, abnormal posture or straining of a body part
Blocking tics: a tic which takes away a person's ability to move/speak
There are definitely more but these are a good handful!

Much of the time I find the way that we’re told to manage tics very much prioritises others rather than the person with tics.
Oftentimes it’s about how to make us more palatable to those who don’t have tics, whether that is being in good humour and allowing them to laugh at us regardless of whether we are comfortable with that, locking ourselves up at home so people don’t have to see something “icky”, putting ourselves in the constant discomfort of suppressing tics for no reason but the fact that other people are ignorant.
Justifying ableism as “well what do you expect going out and yelling swear words?”. When my tics first developed my parents threatened to never let me leave the house, go to school or see friends saying that I have to “think of others”. It is always seen as my responsibility to educate and jump through hoops to be treated with basic decency. People make it very clear that their few seconds of discomfort are priority over my entire life.

My hair is the same texture as fanfiction Binghe (fluffy, curly/wavy) and I was thinking... If I got realllyyy buff (and also got my boobies surgery'd off) I'd basically be Binghe.

Tourette's syndrome culture is suppressing all your tics to the point that you have a panic attack and everyone thinks that you are being dramatic or attention seeking but it is just all your suppressed tics coming out at once and it feels like a bomb of energy and stress. And your brain forces you to suppress when in public because you know that you would get bullied otherwise, but it just turns into an endless loop of suppress and then panic attack + tic attack, you try to let yourself tic but your brain forces you to suppress because that is what you're used to.

I started reading Varney the Vampire, and I'm pretty sure that if the Dracula crew ever met him, they would instantly adopt him because he's such a sad wet cat of a man.
110% agree. @mayhemchicken-artblog has actually drawn a scene or two on the subject I believe 👀

Excuse me, beautiful creature, but I have a big doubt. How could you help Tic or Tac if they are having an attack and starting to hurt themselves? (Like when Tac bites his lips or hands/arms)
ogh. this is rly sweet :'>
(tw: tics and self harm)
for the most part, it's not a big problem with Tic, n the most harmful thing Tac will do is bite, but here's a few things you could do:
hand them a pillow/something soft to put between themselves and their hands. make sure they're wearing their gloves, and Tac is wearing his muzzle if he's biting bad. or maybe hand him something/put something in his mouth to bite onto, and keep handing it back when/if he spits it out if he'll let you (the spitting it out being a tic most likely) maybe get a small blanket or something, to wrap around their hands/arms if you need too, but that's usually not necessary, least for Tic.
make sure their heads aren't against a wall or other hard surface, bc they might hit their head against it.
afterward, if they did hurt themselves, handing them something to heal (like a monster candy) would help (tho not likely that they would have shaved off any hp unless there was actually some self-hate behind the tic, but Tac will get this more often) and lots of cuddles. they are probably worn out n would appreciate it very much. uvu)

ranking my tics bc i can
head jerk (front) - 6/10 has gotten me weird looks before but idgaf. got asked if i was nauseous once and that was awkward but not as bad as others
head jerk (side) - 6.5/10 doesnt happen that often anymore. if it happens during a tic attack/ i do it too much then my neck becomes sore but its not really an issue right now. still gets weird looks sometimes tho
going "tsk" but its not pronounced like that - 8/10 not too noticable, no weird looks. my friends mostly think its a stim. its really common too so its good that its not too noticable
BAM!!!!! - 9/10 bamboozlers from wild life u will alway sbe famous to me. friends think its a stim, it kinda is. happen a lot though and i get a few weird looks esp during class but i like it enough
finger guns - 7/10 can be funny. not too noticable surprisingly, people just think its a bit that i do. it sometimes is. funny when my friends reciprocate
owie - 0/10 horrible i hate it. people ask "oh no r u ok???" and when i say im fine they dont take no for an answer bc i keep saying "owie". its also just an annoying word i dont like it
yummy - 1/10 barely better than owie. doesnt happen that often anymore but when it did it was a PROBLEM. its half a vocal stim, and it sometimes is a tic but otherwise its fine
hello - 6.5/10 usually just get a confused "hi?" from whoever im talking too. feel slightly bad bc they dont know what the fucks going on or why i just greeted them in the middle of conversation
FUCK you - 0/10 doesnt happen as much anymore but when it did i had to muffle it so badly it almost hurt bc i cant just yell that at my parents. dont like it
jazz hands - 2/10 motor tic vocal tic wombo combo. whenever someone says "jazz hands" in a specific tone at me i say it too and bring up my hands. bonus points for being funny
bonus: echolalia ????/10 im gonna be honest this completel ydepends on what im repeating. sometimes its some freaky shit and other times its fine. hate when people trigger it on purpose though and for that reason its mostly negative
i had a lot of fun doing this yippee!!!! also for context like 3 of my friends know i have tics and the interwebs, my parents just think im silly like that
