A quick-ish guide to the culture of The Sims 2 modding community.
Are you new to The Sims 2 community? Are you coming from more modern games, either in The Sims franchise itself or other contemporary games? Are you excited to start your #brand and become a #simfluencer and post your #earlyaccesscontent to support your #sidehustle?
Have a seat, then! Let's chat.
Hello, friend! My name's Pooklet. I've been playing since 2004 and creating since 2007. I'm by no means an expert in most forms of content creation itself, but I've been around since the heyday of The Sims 2, I've watched how community opinions have shifted (or not) since practically the beginning, and I'm hoping to give you a basic outline of the community culture that you can expect to encounter as a newcomer.
A very brief history of Sims 2 content monetization:
People have been trying to monetize content since there has been content to monetize, all the way back in the days of The Sims 1. We tend to call them "pay creators" and their websites "paysites." Some big names in this arena include The Sims Resource (their free-with-ads model is a relatively recent development, which is why you will find people to this day calling them T$R), PeggySims, Newsea, and many others that you can find on this handy website:
Paysites Must Be Destroyed
Now, if you have a glance at that website, you might be saying to yourself:
"But, that's illegal! I own the copyright to my custom content!"
Alas, no! Due to the wording of the End User License Agreement for The Sims 2, no custom content creator owns their creations for this game (or The Sims 1, or 3, or 4, for that matter, but we're talking about 2 right now). It all belongs to EA at the end of the day, and by installing and playing the game, you have agreed to these terms. Which means you have no individual, protected copyright, and it is perfectly legal for someone to download your paywalled content and then reupload it for free for others to enjoy. And they will!
Furthermore,
You are not making anything alone.
Everything from modding resources, to tutorials, to the mods required to fix disastrous glitches in the game code and make it playable at all, to the third party programs used to make any and all custom content, such as SimPE—all of these have been provided to you for free by other creators, many of whom have a usage policy that asks that people not use their freely-provided tools to make a profit. Although no one can be forced to follow a creator's policy, it is generally considered good manners to not try to make a profit off of someone else's free work. And if you are using these tools to make paywalled content, that's exactly what you're doing.
Pay creators have been ignoring these policies since the beginning of time, and so free creators likewise ignore their policies against sharing their paywalled content. Pay creators have also tried lots of different ways to keep their content exclusive, everything from trying to track leaks with slightly altered files to actively filling their content with malicious code. It has never worked.
Free creators have always found a way around these barriers. In fact, it's taken as something of a challenge to undermine monetization efforts. As you can see from Paysites Must Be Destroyed, there are entire teams of players devoted to reuploading paywalled content for free.
A culture of sharing.
The Sims 2 is something of a time capsule. At 20 years old, it predates a lot of the hyper-capitalist hustle culture that has infested every creative hobby. It is from a time when monetization was an outlier rather than the norm, and a much maligned outlier at that. This attitude has persisted for 20 years. Believe me when I say, you won't be the combo breaker. Especially now, given that The Sims 2 is not the most contemporary in the series and the community has shrunk considerably, down to the people who have either been here for a very long time, or newcomers that understand the community culture.
Also, it's just kind of not a great idea in general to try to make money off of a 20-year-old game with a pretty small community?
Like, I get that The Sims 4 is really saturated with pay creators and it's hard to get a foot in the door. I get that you might look at The Sims 2 and think that the small pond will give you room to be a big fish. It won't. You might get a handful of people willing to pay for your content, but at least one of those people will be resharing it for free.
Paywalls vs. optional donations.
Okay, so hopefully you now understand why people don't like it when you put content behind a paywall. But what about those Ko-fi and Paypal donation links you sometimes see at the bottom of people's downloads? Why is that okay, but a locked Patreon tier isn't? Well, because they're voluntary. No one is obligated to pay for that content to be able to download and use it. It's just a way for someone who does have a little extra cash to basically "tip" a creator whose content they like. You have no way of knowing whether the person who posts those links is actually receiving any donations. And that's kind of the point. Whether or not they receive any donations, they are still sharing their content, because they enjoy the hobby of making and sharing content.
"I can't make a living off of that!"
No, you can't. Because that's not what we do here. That is not part of our community culture for all the above reasons. If you want to make a reliable income off of your hobby, you're going to need to get a different hobby. Try Second Life! That is a community that actively encourages monetization. The Sims 4 allows for "early access" monetization. There's options out there for you, if what you want is to make a profit off of your creations for a game.
"Fine, what about monetized link forwarding services?"
Link forwarding services historically have malicious trackers or viruses embedded. People will also strip those and provide direct links to each other. Or they just won't download your content.
"What if I want to make YouTube videos of someone else's written tutorials and I enable ad revenue on them?"
Personally, I still think that's a dick move. I love video tutorials, I'm a very visual learner myself, and although you might feel entitled to compensation for reciting the steps of someone else's tutorial into a microphone and then editing and uploading the video, you're still monetizing someone else's freely-provided content. I would consider this an 'ask permission' scenario, one in which you tell the person, explicitly, that you will be making ad revenue off their work. If they're fine with that, then you're good! (For the record, I'm not fine with that.)
edit: more of of my thoughts on monetized youtube videos over here.
"What if—"
Look, no one can stop you from trying to monetize your content, or worse, someone else's content. But you will have the exact same arc as every pay creator who came before you: your efforts will be undermined at every turn, your reception in the greater community will be chilly at best, and it will become a battle between you and the folks resharing free reuploads of your content until any fun you initially had making content is gone.
"The steady erosion of every known social safety net beneath the crippling weight of end-stage, line-goes-up capitalism and the yawning abyss of poverty over which I am dangling has imbued me with such anxiety that I cannot engage with a hobby that precludes monetization. I am exhausted. I know no other way."
I get it, friend! I have lived in poverty all my life. I do not begrudge the impulse to find a way to make passive income off of your every waking moment. Increasingly, it seems like that is the only way to survive! Unfortunately, you will not be able to do that with this specific community. We know that we have something special here, having resisted monetization's encroach for so long, which makes us fight all the more viciously to maintain it. You are entitled to try to find ways to supplement your income, just not here. Personally, I consider that a feature, not a bug.
Bonus Round: Remember, That's Not Just Yours!
I said it earlier, but I want to reiterate: you are not making any TS2 CC alone. You are making it with tools, resources, knowledge and code that people have provided on the condition that they not be used for pay content.
To use myself as an example, "my" hair textures are a blend of resources provided by other creators. Namely, Nouk's original hair texture was edited by Vintage D, which I then further edited over the years, using parts by the creators Ephemera and Helga. It would be extremely shit of me to say "well, I think that the time that I put into my edit is worth money, so I'm charging for it" when the edits that I made would not exist without the work of those people. And it continues on down the line with edits that other people have made of my texture blends and color actions, and the content they make with them.
(If you see someone charging for these, btw, lemme know. I'd love to have a talk with them.)
In closing,
The knowledge base, the resources, the coding required to make any and all working content for The Sims 2 has been compiled for 20 years. Please understand, I'm not trying to denigrate anyone's creativity when I say: you cannot bring anything wholly "new" to TS2 CC-making, something that uses no one else's resources or programs, something you can point to and say "no one helped me with that. I did it all on my own. It is my property." Nor should you aspire to! The fun of The Sims 2 community is to share and share alike, to credit each other for our contributions, to hype each other up and iterate on shared works and resources. We've been doing it for 20 years, and hopefully we'll be doing it for many more! Wanting to be a #simfluencer is utterly antithetical to the community culture. No one is influencing anyone else. You need to leave that shit at the door if you want to be invited in.
TL;DR:
Don't show up to the commie circle-jerk trying to charge for handjobs. We're already giving them to each other for free, and nothing about your wrist technique is special enough to justify the cost.
#sims 2#the sims 2#ts2#long post#like yes this post did come from a place of frustration but i do hope it is genuinely helpful to folks who are new to ts2#and maybe don't quite understand how we operate as a community.

How to EFFECTIVELY Use Empty Standby List to Reduce Flashing and Crashing
This tutorial is for TS2. Obviously. This is virtually the last "chapter" of advice for the Pink Flashing Survey Report (still forthcoming as a single readable thing but posted in bits and pieces over the last six months). PS it's a lonnnnnnng post. Ctrl+F "tldr" for the very short version once you open the cut.
"Part 1" of the Empty Standby List ("ESL") tutorial was already written comprehensively with screenshots by Digi at her wordpress. Following Digi's tutorial will get you set up with ESL as a routine automated background task your computer runs, typically every five minutes.
@gayars set up two instances of the routine, each running every five minutes, staggered two/three minutes apart. In other words, task 1 runs at 12:00, task 2 runs at 12:03, task 1 runs at 12:05, task 2 runs at 12:08, etc. However, I found that this negatively impacted the graphical performance of my game, notably by having the ESL task window flash over the game window, which I had never seen before, nor since reverting back to a single 5-minute task routine.
Anyway. Go do Digi's tutorial if you haven't already; I'll wait.
Background on Why this Matters
So, now your computer will be wiping the standby memory every five minutes. The thing is, this won't be able to have much impact on your game unless you wait to let it wipe before you do a major loading action.
Major loading actions are, in general order of strain (most to least strenuous):
Loading a full neighborhood.
Loading a large (3x4 or bigger) populated lot.
Loading a large unpopulated lot.
Loading actual CAS, if you have a lot of non-defaulted CC.
Loading a medium (3x3) populated lot.
Loading a medium unpopulated lot.
Loading a small (2x3 or smaller) populated lot.
Loading a small unpopulated lot.
Loading CAS catalogs from within a lot (e.g. using FFS clothing tool, "Change Appearance" on the mirror, shopping for clothes/trying on clothes on a community lot).
Turning up your lot view settings (generating other lots' lot imposters within your current lot)/panning the camera around.
You should already be doing at least all medium- and large-lot loading with the Lot View Settings Juggling Method, and “uint LotSkirtIncrease” removed from your userstartup.cheat - otherwise whenever you load a lot you are compounding the strain by also having the neighborhood load at the same time.
Using Resource Monitor Effectively
If you watched the Jessa Channel tutorial on flashing, she recommended downloading a third-party RAM usage monitoring software. This is unnecessary. For purposes of reducing your crashing, all you need is the native Windows program "Resource Monitor" that she also recommends.
To open it:
Click the Windows symbol/start menu.
Begin typing "Resource Monitor."
Click Resource Monitor when it shows up.
Once it is open, get to the useful information:
Click the "Memory" tab.
Make sure the "Processes" and "Physical Memory" subs are fully open, as above.
Sort by "Commit (KB)."
Each time you reopen Resource Monitor, it should restore your last view settings, so you won't have to repeat these steps.
While Resource Monitor is still open, "Pin" it to the taskbar so it will always be readily accessible.
Right-click the icon on the taskbar.
Click "Pin to taskbar."
If it says "Unpin from taskbar" you have already done this step :)
Now comes the monitoring part. You will focus on the dark-blue "Standby" block of the bar graph on Physical Memory.
Every fifth minute, when the ESL task runs, this will flash down to 0 and then pop up to about 30-75, depending on what you are doing. It will go higher faster if you are doing stuff, obviously, and hover pretty low if your computer is just sitting still. TLDR the remainder of this tutorial: only take stress actions when Standby is below 100.
As we all know too well, TS2 has a 4gb RAM limit. The problem is, TS2 seems to count the memory that is in standby, too, not just the committed/working set. Thus, before you take a major loading action (that is going to push up to 1.5gb into Standby), you need to wait for Standby to wipe so the game doesn't accidentally think it's using more memory than it is. Got it?
This is how much RAM my game is using when my neighborhood opens, pretty closely zoomed in on any particular lot. If it is zoomed out further - like a whole city block - both committed and working set are easily over 2.2gb. When I pan around the neighborhood, it continues going up. Portions of the hood that go back out of view seem to get relegated to standby, but yes, my game has crashed just from looking too much at my neighborhood from too wide an angle. Unless I slow down and let ESL run before moving on to the next section.
Six months of diligent Resource Manager monitoring has resulted in substantial reductions of crashing and flashing on my first hood view load and first lot view load. It is not 100% guaranteed, but it cuts it back to Very Playable Levels. And when I have tested the theory by purposefully not letting ESL run before a stress point, it always flashes and/or crashes within the next couple minutes.
SO! Here's what I do when I'm launching my game.
Because of overheating concerns, I always fully shut down my computer when I'm not using it for more than an hour. If I have been playing and experience a flash or crash, I will restart before trying again. @infinitesimblr, a survey Respondent who reported virtually no flashing or crashing despite a vast CC catalog, also recommends restarting between using Bodyshop or SimPE and the full game. I have found it may make a difference with Bodyshop (which I use too rarely to make a pseudoscientific claim) but that I have found basically no impact going from SimPE to the game. YMMV.
Immediately after Windows is done loading, I open Resource Monitor and wait a few minutes. Often background updates begin running and the Standby bar goes crazy - sometimes filling up the entire available RAM - and I just let it sit and do its thing. (Usually I start the computer right before my kid's bedtime so I am not actively waiting on it or anything. Go take a shower or make a sandwich or drink some water, like you did in the old days when the game itself took 20 minutes to load.)
Once the standby bar levels out and is consistently peaking no higher than about 250mb between ESL wipes, after the next ESL wipe, I will launch the game. (Usually between logging into Windowsat the beginning of storytime and checking Resource Monitor before we go do tuck-in, it is reliably hanging out below 100 unless a big TS4 or Windows update was downloading.)
Reminder: do not delete thumbnails anymore prior to launching the game. I also have turned off RPC's clear caches option and have observed faster loading times with minimal increases in crashing.
After the neighborhood selection screen comes up, wait for ESL to run again before opening your neighborhood.
If you have continue to have more than VERY sporadic hood load flashing after taking these steps, you should try launching into a subhood if you have one, then pivoting to the main hood if that's where you're playing that session after yet another ESL wipe. If that doesn't help you simply need to thin out your hood or accept the flashing. (I ended up deleting about 25% of my deco trees and 10-15 outer-lying lots that will be re-placed in a subhood.)
After the hood is loaded, navigate to the lot you want, but DO NOT actually load that lot until ESL runs yet again. Ditto for CAS - Do not select "Create New Family" until ESL has run again.
Play should be proceed as normal at this point. You probably don't need to alt-tab back to Resource Monitor again unless your sims are going traveling or you are changing play lots.
BONUS TIP #1: You can put a shortcut to the ESL routine on your desktop and push it manually (just double click the icon) if you don't feel like waiting once the game is loaded. I have had imperfect results with this vs. just waiting the five minutes, though, because the game wants to run through some stuff and flush it. But it's an option for you to experiment with.
BONUS TIP #2: If you have a really deep clothing/hair CC catalog, try to avoid using the FFS clothing tool option where you select every outfit for the sim, and their hair and makeup, at the same time. Instead, choose individual outfits by type and use the regular mirror option to change appearance (or SimBlender has it, I think, so they can do it where they already are).

EEE thank you @l3o-lion !! To answer your question, most of the animations I post on here are tweening, specifically with Live2D.
I like using it for gentle looping animations & backdrops. (Character animations are a whole different beast? I usually only keep them to a couple functions like 'HandMove' or 'HairGoWoosh'" but this is the VTuber-making software so it's totally possible to make more complex characters. )
I made a tutorial for how I animate with L2D below the cut, if you'd like to see the details! :D
This is the file for that Artfight attack. (quick disclaimer for anyone reading out of context: THIS IS NOT MY CHARACTER DESIGN, they belong to Finchstick over on Artfight!)
I drew the image itself in Krita - for this one I tried to go for more of a fuzzy, painterly style because I wanted to make it look like a muppet. L2D can handle fuzzy textures and gradients without too much trouble most of the time which is something I really like about animating with it.
______________
So! Each different moving piece has to be its own layer. Naming and organizing them into folders helps a lot once I export it into L2D. The finished image needs to be saved as a .PSD file.
After it's done, I'll open the .PSD file in L2D and it'll look something like this:
Once the file is open I find the moving pieces of my character and select them. (I also lock the static layers before doing anything )
_______ M E S H E S ________
Once I have my piece selected, I open the automatic mesh generator ( located above the image, to the left ) and automatic mesh it.
(Keep the mesh generator window open and select / apply mesh to each moving object.)
______ D E F O R M E R S _______
Once the pieces have a mesh on them I apply warp deformers for each part. (I try to apply the deformer for each body part to the largest piece making up that part. For example, the part being used for the head deformer here is the upper part of the head.)
Each part of the face also gets a deformer - each eye, the mouth, etc - and those get shoved into the parent "head" warp deformer.
The deformers allow for parts of the face to move with the head, but they also allow for you to set more parameters per part and make your model look more dynamic. (There's a 3 parameter limit in the free version but if I need to make another parameter work I'll just brute force it and make a 'head deformer deformer' etc)
_____ P A R A M E T E R S ______
Once the deformers are set up, I start setting the parameters.
The program opens with these default parameters which are all intended for rigging a face, you can make your own custom parameters at the bottom of the window.
As for the green dots here, they represent points of extremes on the parameter! You can change what these are by moving the slider over the green dot, and moving the mesh on the selected object.
This can be a bit tedious, but it's fun to watch the model look more alive the more parameters you finish.
______ A N I M A T I N G _______
After I save my model as a .CMO3 file I open a new animation file in L2D, and drag and drop the .CMO3 into the window.
The model shows up much larger than the window. You can resize the window in the bottom left, (third and fourth fields from the top,) and shrink the model to fit inside.
(The free version has a limitation on how big your image can be in order to be exported. It usually takes me a bit of trial and error to get the right size for the image.)
The window below your image shows your tracks. You can have multiple models per animation, I usually just use one. The purple track represents the model while the orange represents the duration of the animation.
With that out of the way, it's time to set the keyframes! Under the purple model track there's a green drop-down window called 'Live2D Parameters'. Here, you can adjust your parameters in order to move your model to the right position.
(In order to make a looping animation, you can copy all parameter values in the first keyframe by left RIGHT clicking the dot on the green Parameters track, and then paste them to the last rendered keyframe.)
I adjust the parameters and keyframes until I feel satisfied with the result. Once I'm done, I just go to File > Export Image/Video > GIF animation or Video.
I make sure my image is sized correctly, and save! And that's about it. ( For this specific animation I also put some effects over it in Clipchamp. )

Defects, this is probably going to be the only time ever that I post something bummer like this, but I feel as though I can't keep it bottled up anymore. Only read if you're not easy to make sad.
I miss having a future, Defects. I really do. The moment I got seizures, my entire life flipped from almost being complete into stepping into an amazing phase of my life, having completed college and using the skills I was insanely (and rightfully) confident and sharp in. Fuck, I was amazing.
Then boom. Stress-enduced seizures. Trapped inside due to covid lockdown too. Family and College - two insane stressors, now dangerous for me. I lost so much from that.
I had to move out early and never got to finish the degree I spent *two years of my life* working toward.
Even if I pick it up now, I'm pretty sure most of my credits have expired. I'm fucked, and I owe student loans now, too, on top of barely making enough money to live, so I get to just be more terrified and hopeless every second watching the interest keep piling up. And I can't get a job that pays well because of a STUPID PIECE OF FUCKING PAPER.
I WAS EXCELLENT AND WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT AT IT BUT NOONE GIVES A RATS ASS WITHOUT THE PAPER.
Now here I am, living on my own in IT because it was an easy fallback that was supposed to be temporary.
I don't like this, Defects.
You, Defects, as well as my loved ones online are... Well, the only things that I look forward to each day.
I keep trying to get better. To dig myself out of this pit. I started hormones finally - and I am so happy about it, so I guess I have a third thing since it's helping me feel a little more, well, girl.
But I sure as fuck don't quite resemble one beyond the cute eyeliner and hair. I wear a purse recently, which helps. But I feel like a fake.
I can't escape facial hair. No matter how much I shave, it's so fucking thick and grows so fast that even if I got it completely smooth, it'd just regrow and be visible in maybe a couple hours at most.
I want to program again, Defects. I want to make games. I want to have a future and go back to my original goals. I want to make games and make people happy.
I want some of it back. Any of it back.
It fucking hurts.
I can't even get myself to program. No matter what I do, I can't get myself to just... Do it. I will install the editor and go through all the setup and... Be overwhelmed. Overwhelmed by the new ui, by having to relearn so much. By NOT BEING ABLE TO DO THE ONE THING I SPENT MY LIFE LEARNING. It really is a use it or lose it skill I guess. And I have not been using it Defects.
It's almost like a fear of acceptance too, I think. Deep down inside, I know I still have some of it left. I bet I can relearn, even if I will fucking suck. Even if I will never get it back fully.
I want that so much. Please. I don't know how to start. I don't know what to do. I touch the editor and try to do stuff and it won't fucking compile. I can't get the header dependencies right.
I can't remember how to do anything. I got so SO fucking proud of myself for making A FUNCTION THAT CHOOSES A RANDOM NUMBER IN A RANGE AND PULLS A VALUE FROM A LIST OF STRINGS AND PRINTS IT TO HELP ME CHOOSE WHAT TO STREAM WHEN I AM UNSURE. IT TOOK ME SO LONG AND IT IS FUCKING HUMILIATING.
IT SHOULD TAKE ME LIKE 5 MINUTES MAX NOT 30. NOT AN HOUR. NOT. Fucking. Ugh.
And then I couldn't get myself to program again. I thought I broke free from it. I really did. I forced myself to do it but why do I return to being unable to do it?
Is it because I don't have an objective? A goal? I like making things for people. I want to help and make them happy.
I don't really have a use for making things for myself. Maybe that is why. Making stupid useless tutorial projects.. feels both demoralizing and useless. A waste of time, DESPITE that it will help me gain something back.
I don't know what to do.
Sorry for you having to read all that.
Maybe one day we will program again.
It's why I did the game design document with Duckolium. Maybe if I stream it, I can force myself to program. Well, more like *be* forced to.
This is my last hope.
I hope it works.

I decided to write this article when I realized what a great step forward the modern computer science learning has done in the last 20 years. Think of it. My first “Hello, world” program was written in Sinclair BASIC in 1997 for КР1858ВМ1r This dinosaur was the Soviet clone of the Zilog Z80 microprocessor and appeared on the Eastern Europe market in 1992-1994. I didn’t have any sources of information on how to program besides the old Soviet “Encyclopedia of Dr. Fortran”. And it was actually a graphic novel rather than a BASIC tutorial book. This piece explained to children how to sit next to a monitor and keep eyesight healthy as well as covered the general aspects of programming. Frankly, it involved a great guesswork but I did manage to code. The first real tutorial book I took in my hands in the year of 2000 was “The C++ Programming Language” by Bjarne Stroustrup, the third edition. The book resembled a tombstone and probably was the most fundamental text for programmers I’d ever seen. Even now I believe it never gets old. Nowadays, working with such technologies as Symfony or Django in the DDI Development software company I don’t usually apply to books because they become outdated before seeing a printing press. Everyone can learn much faster and put a lesser effort into finding new things. The number of tutorials currently available brings the opposite struggle to what I encountered: you have to pick a suitable course out of the white noise. In order to save your time, I offer the 20 best tutorials services for developers. Some of them I personally use and some have gained much recognition among fellow technicians. Lynda.com The best thing about Lynda is that it covers all the aspects of web development. The service currently has 1621 courses with more than 65 thousand videos coming with project materials by experts. Once you’ve bought a monthly subscription for a small $30 fee you get an unlimited access to all tutorials. The resource will help you grow regardless your expertise since it contains and classifies courses for all skill levels. Pluralsight.com Another huge resource with 1372 courses currently available from developers for developers. It may be a hardcore decision to start with Pluralsight if you’re a beginner, but it’s a great platform to enhance skills if you already have some programming background. A month subscription costs the same $30 unless you want to receive downloadable exercise files and additional assessments. Then you’ll have to pay $50 per month. Codecademy.com This one is great to start with for beginners. Made in an interactive console format it leads you through basic steps to the understanding of major concepts and techniques. Choose the technology or language you like and start learning. Besides that, Codecademy lets you build websites, games, and apps within its environment, join the community and share your success. Yes, and it’s totally free! Probably the drawback here is that you’ll face challenges if you try to apply gained skills in the real world conditions. Codeschool.com Once you’ve done with Codecademy, look for something more complicated, for example, this. Codeschool offers middle and advanced courses for you to become an expert. You can immerse into learning going through 10 introductory sessions for free and then get a monthly subscription for $30 to watch all screencasts, courses, and solve tasks. Codeavengers.com You definitely should check this one to cover HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Code Avengers is considered to be the most engaging learning you could experience. Interactive tasks, bright characters and visualization of your actions, simple instructions and instilling debugging discipline makes Avengers stand out from the crowd. And unlike other services it doesn’t tie you to schedules allowing to buy either one course or all 10 for $165 at once and study at your own pace. Teamtreehouse.com An all-embracing platform both for beginners and advanced learners. Treehouse
has general development courses as well as real-life tasks such as creating an iOS game or making a photo app. Tasks are preceded by explicit video instructions that you follow when completing exercises in the provided workspace. The basic subscription plan costs $25 per month, and gives access to videos, code engine, and community. But if you want bonus content and videos from leaders in the industry, your pro plan will be $50 monthly. Coursera.org You may know this one. The world famous online institution for all scientific fields, including computer science. Courses here are presented by instructors from Stanford, Michigan, Princeton, and other universities around the world. Each course consists of lectures, quizzes, assignments, and final exams. So intensive and solid education guaranteed. By the end of a course, you receive a verified certificate which may be an extra reason for employers. Coursera has both free and pre-pay courses available. Learncodethehardway.org Even though I’m pretty skeptical about books, these ones are worth trying if you seek basics. The project started as a book for Python learning and later on expanded to cover Ruby, SQL, C, and Regex. For $30 you get a book and video materials for each course. The great thing about LCodeTHW is its focus on practice. Theory is good, but practical skills are even better. Thecodeplayer.com The name stands for itself. Codeplayer contains numerous showcases of creating web features, ranging from programming input forms to designing the Matrix code animation. Each walkthrough has a workspace with a code being written, an output window, and player controls. The service will be great practice for skilled developers to get some tips as well as for newbies who are just learning HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript. Programmr.com A great platform with a somewhat unique approach to learning. You don’t only follow courses completing projects, but you do this by means of the provided API right in the browser and you can embed outcome apps in your blog to share with friends. Another attractive thing is that you can participate in Programmr contests and even win some money by creating robust products. Well, it’s time to learn and play. Udemy.com An e-commerse website which sells knowledge. Everyone can create a course and even earn money on it. That might raise some doubts about the quality, but since there is a lot of competition and feedback for each course a common learner will inevitably find a useful training. There are tens of thousands of courses currently available, and once you’ve bought a course you get an indefinite access to all its materials. Udemy prices vary from $30 to $100 for each course, and some training is free. Upcase.com Have you completed the beginner courses yet? It’s time to promote your software engineer’s career by learning something more specific and complex: test-driven development in Ruby on Rails, code refactoring, testing, etc. For $30 per month you get access to the community, video tutorials, coding exercises, and materials on the Git repository. Edx.org A Harvard and MIT program for free online education. Currently, it has 111 computer science and related courses scheduled. You can enroll for free and follow the training led by Microsoft developers, MIT professors, and other experts in the field. Course materials, virtual labs, and certificates are included. Although you don’t have to pay for learning, it will cost $50 for you to receive a verified certificate to add to your CV. Securitytube.net Let’s get more specific here. Surprisingly enough SecurityTube contains numerous pieces of training regarding IT security. Do you need penetration test for your resource? It’s the best place for you to capture some clues or even learn hacking tricks. Unfortunately, many of presented cases are outdated in terms of modern security techniques. Before you start, bother yourself with checking how up-to-date a training is. A lot of videos are free, but you can buy a premium course access for $40.
Rubykoans.com Learn Ruby as you would attain Zen. Ruby Koans is a path through tasks. Each task is a Ruby feature with missing element. You have to fill in the missing part in order to move to the next Koan. The philosophy behind implies that you don’t have a tutor showing what to do, but it’s you who attains the language, its features, and syntax by thinking about it. Bloc.io For those who seek a personal approach. Bloc covers iOS, Android, UI/UX, Ruby on Rails, frontend or full stack development courses. It makes the difference because you basically choose and hire the expert who is going to be your exclusive mentor. 1-on-1 education will be adapted to your comfortable schedule, during that time you’ll build several applications within the test-driven methodology, learn developers’ tools and techniques. Your tutor will also help you showcase the outcome works for employers and train you to pass a job interview. The whole course will cost $5000 or you can pay $1333 as an enrollment fee and $833 per month unless you decide to take a full stack development course. This one costs $9500. Udacity.com A set of courses for dedicated learners. Udacity has introductory as well as specific courses to complete. What is great about it and in the same time controversial is that you watch tutorials, complete assignments, get professional reviews, and enhance skills aligning it to your own schedule. A monthly fee is $200, but Udacity will refund half of the payments if you manage to complete a course within 12 months. Courses are prepared by the leading companies in the industry: Google, Facebook, MongoDB, At&T, and others. Htmldog.com Something HTML, CSS, JavaScript novices and adepts must know about. Simple and free this resource contains text tutorials as well as techniques, examples, and references. HTML Dog will be a great handbook for those who are currently engaged in completing other courses or just work with these frontend technologies. Khanacademy.org It’s diverse and free. Khan Academy provides a powerful environment for learning and coding simultaneously, even though it’s not specified for development learning only. Built-in coding engine lets you create projects within the platform, you watch video tutorials and elaborate challenging tasks. There is also the special set of materials for teachers. Scratch.mit.edu Learning for the little ones. Scratch is another great foundation by MIT created for children from 8 to 15. It won’t probably make your children expert developers, but it will certainly introduce the breathtaking world of computer science to them. This free to use platform has a powerful yet simple engine for making animated movies and games. If you want your child to become an engineer, Scratch will help to grasp the basic idea. Isn’t it inspirational to see your efforts turning into reality? Conclusion According to my experience, you shouldn’t take more than three courses at a time if you combine online training with some major activity because it’s going to be hard to concentrate. Anyway, I tried to pick different types of resources for you to have a choice and decide your own schedule as well as a subscription model. What services do you usually apply to? Do you think online learning can compete with traditional university education yet? Please, share. Flutter is a UI toolkit developed by Google, designed for building natively compiled applications for mobile, web, and desktop from a single codebase. It uses the Dart programming language, which is similar to JavaScript but comes with its own set of features that make it an excellent choice for app development.
Why Choose Flutter as a Beginner?
For beginners in app development, the question often arises: Is Flutter easy to learn compared to other frameworks like React Native or Swift? The answer depends on your background, but Flutter has several advantages:
Single Codebase for Multiple Platforms: One of Flutter’s biggest strengths is its ability to create cross-platform apps with a single codebase. This means you don't need to learn separate languages for iOS and Android development.
Rich Documentation and Community Support: Flutter boasts extensive documentation that makes learning more approachable. Its large, active community also provides tons of tutorials and guides for beginners.
Pre-built Widgets: Flutter is packed with pre-designed widgets that make it easy to create beautiful, responsive apps without needing to code everything from scratch.
Is Flutter Easy to Learn for Beginners?
So, let’s directly address the question: Is Flutter easy to learn for someone with little to no coding experience? Here’s why the answer is generally yes:
Friendly Learning Curve: Unlike other frameworks that require mastering multiple programming languages and libraries, Flutter focuses on one primary language—Dart. Dart’s syntax is clean and relatively simple, making it easier to pick up than languages like Java or Swift.
Hot Reload Feature: One of Flutter’s standout features is “hot reload,” which allows you to instantly see changes you make in your code. This feature is highly beneficial for beginners, allowing you to experiment and learn without waiting for long build times.
Comprehensive Learning Resources: Google offers a wide range of learning materials, including tutorials, workshops, and in-depth guides that make mastering Flutter more accessible. Whether you prefer reading or watching videos, there are numerous resources to help you.
However, while the framework itself is beginner-friendly, the easiest path to mastering Flutter still involves a basic understanding of programming concepts, such as object-oriented programming (OOP) and knowledge of Dart.
Challenges of Learning Flutter
Although Flutter is relatively easy to learn, no framework is without its challenges. As you dive deeper, you might find that understanding more advanced features like state management, animations, or integrating third-party APIs could be a bit tricky. But don’t be discouraged; these are common learning curves when picking up any new development tool.
Final Verdict: Is Flutter Easy to Learn?
In conclusion, Is Flutter easy to learn? Yes, it is, especially for beginners with some programming experience or those willing to invest the time to grasp its core concepts. With its simple syntax, vast resources, and helpful features like hot reload, Flutter has proven itself to be one of the most accessible frameworks available today. Unlock the potential of Flutter by starting small and gradually building your skillset, and you’ll soon realize that mastering it is a rewarding experience!
Are you ready to explore the world of cross-platform development with Flutter? Dive in, and you’ll find that not only is Flutter easy to learn, but it also opens doors to exciting opportunities in app development!

Digital Video Production: A Guide to Crafting Engaging Online Content
In the ever-evolving landscape of digital media, video content has emerged as a dominant force. With the rise of platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, the ability to create engaging video content has never been more crucial. This guide explores the various aspects of digital video production, offering insights into crafting compelling online content that captures and retains audience attention.
Understanding the Importance of Video Content
Video content has transformed the way we consume information and entertainment. Studies show that viewers retain 95% of a message when they watch it in a video compared to just 10% when reading it in text. This statistic underscores the significance of video as a medium for storytelling, marketing, and education.
Moreover, social media algorithms favor video content, making it more likely to reach a broader audience. As a result, businesses, educators, and content creators alike are investing in high-quality video production to enhance their outreach and engagement.
Pre-Production: Planning Your Video
The foundation of a successful video lies in thorough pre-production planning. This phase involves brainstorming ideas, defining your target audience, and developing a script or storyboard.
Defining Your Audience
Understanding your audience is paramount. Consider their demographics, interests, and viewing habits. This information will guide your content creation process, ensuring that your video resonates with viewers.
Concept Development
Once you have a clear understanding of your audience, brainstorm ideas that align with their interests. Consider various formats such as tutorials, vlogs, interviews, or promotional content.
Scripting and Storyboarding
A well-structured script is essential for delivering your message effectively. Outline your video, breaking it down into segments to maintain clarity and flow. A storyboard can be a helpful tool to visualize how each scene will unfold, including camera angles, transitions, and key visuals.
Production: Bringing Your Vision to Life
With your planning complete, it’s time to move into the production phase. This stage involves capturing the footage needed for your video.
Equipment Essentials
Investing in the right equipment can significantly enhance the quality of your video. While high-end cameras and professional lighting can elevate production value, many smartphones today offer impressive video capabilities. Essential equipment includes:
Camera: A DSLR, mirrorless camera, or a high-quality smartphone.
Tripod: To ensure steady shots.
Microphone: Clear audio is crucial; consider using external microphones for better sound quality.
Lighting: Natural light can work wonders, but additional softbox or LED lights can help create the right ambiance.
Filming Techniques
When filming, pay attention to your composition and framing. Use the rule of thirds to create visually appealing shots. Experiment with different angles and perspectives to add depth to your video.
Don’t forget to capture b-roll footage—additional footage that complements your main content. This can include cutaway shots, establishing shots, or close-ups, which can enhance storytelling and keep viewers engaged.
Post-Production: Editing Your Video
Editing is where your video truly comes to life. This process involves compiling your footage, adding effects, and fine-tuning audio.
Choosing the Right Editing Software
There are various editing software options available, ranging from beginner-friendly tools to professional-grade programs. Popular choices include:
Adobe Premiere Pro: A versatile software used by professionals.
Final Cut Pro: A favorite among Mac users.
DaVinci Resolve: Offers powerful color correction features.
iMovie: Great for beginners on Mac.
Editing Techniques
During editing, focus on pacing and rhythm. A well-paced video keeps viewers engaged. Use cuts, transitions, and effects sparingly to avoid overwhelming your audience.
Incorporate music and sound effects to enhance the emotional impact of your video. However, ensure that these elements don’t overshadow your main message. Always use royalty-free music or obtain the necessary licenses for any audio you include.
Color Grading
Color grading is an essential step in post-production that can dramatically affect the mood and tone of your video. Adjusting colors, contrast, and brightness helps create a cohesive look.
Optimizing Your Video for Online Platforms
Once your video is edited, it’s time to prepare it for online distribution. Each platform has its own requirements and best practices.
Video Formats and Resolutions
Choose the appropriate video format and resolution for the platform you’re using. Common formats include MP4 and MOV. For social media, consider vertical formats for platforms like Instagram Stories and TikTok, while horizontal formats work best for YouTube.
Thumbnails and Titles
A compelling thumbnail and title are crucial for attracting viewers. Create eye-catching thumbnails that represent your video’s content. Titles should be concise and engaging, incorporating relevant keywords to improve searchability.
SEO for Video
Search engine optimization (SEO) is vital for increasing the visibility of your video. Use relevant keywords in your title, description, and tags. Consider creating transcripts for your videos, as they can improve accessibility and enhance SEO.
Engaging with Your Audience
Creating engaging content is only the first step; building a relationship with your audience is equally important.
Encourage Interaction
Invite viewers to like, comment, and share your video. Ask questions or create polls to encourage engagement. Responding to comments fosters a sense of community and encourages viewers to return for future content.
Analyzing Feedback
Monitor metrics such as views, watch time, and audience retention to gauge the success of your video. Use this data to refine your content strategy and improve future videos.
Consistency is Key
Establishing a consistent posting schedule helps retain viewers and build anticipation for your content. Whether it’s weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, find a rhythm that works for you and stick to it.
The Future of Digital Video Production
As technology continues to advance, the landscape of digital video production will evolve. Emerging trends such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and artificial intelligence (AI) are set to change the way we create and consume video content.
Embracing New Technologies
Staying informed about new technologies is crucial for content creators. Experimenting with VR and AR can open up innovative storytelling possibilities, offering immersive experiences that engage audiences in unique ways.
Continuous Learning
The digital media landscape is dynamic, making continuous learning essential. Engage with online courses, webinars, and industry events to stay updated on the latest techniques and trends in video production.
Conclusion
Digital video production offers a powerful way to engage audiences and convey messages effectively. From meticulous planning and production to thoughtful editing and optimization, every phase plays a crucial role in crafting compelling online content. By understanding your audience, utilizing the right tools, and continuously refining your approach, you can create videos that not only capture attention but also foster lasting connections with viewers. Embracing the future of digital video production will ensure that you remain at the forefront of this exciting medium.

How to Stop Ads on Android Phone & Tablet
Ads can be a very interesting but annoying thing in the 21st century. Most of us want to get rid of them, no matter whether we are on the computer, phone, or the table. But few people know how to stop Ads on Android devices while playing mobile games, watching YouTube, or whatever.
Why Do You Need to Block Ads on Android Devices
Are there reasons to block pop-up Ads on Android besides avoiding interruptions when you are using your device? Certainly! This part offers you 6 reasons highlighting the importance of Ad-blocking for a smoother Android experience.
1️⃣ Reduce Distractions
Ads are an obstacle when you are watching a video, browsing a webpage, or playing games. By blocking Ads on Android, you can enjoy whatever you like.
2️⃣ Save Battery Performance
Ads will consume the Android phone or table resources. Every pop-up Ad will drain your battery, and stopping them via a powerful Ad blocker for Android can help extend the operating time.
3️⃣ Block Malware
Some Ads may contain harmful malware and trackers that can analyze your browsing behavior and collect your privacy or personal data, and worse, they fraud you this way.
4️⃣ Block Malicious Webpage Auto-Redirect
The banner Ads may appear at the top or the bottom of your phone/tablet screen, and it is easy to tap on them accidentally. When you accidentally tap on the Ads, it will activate an auto-redirection to another website.
How to Block Ads on Android Using Apps
This is the most intuitive approach for every Android user who wants to stop Ads effectively. Here, we offer you two good examples of blocker apps, and you can just pick your favorite one on Google Play.
Option 1. Total Adblock
Total Adblock is an impressive ad blocker on the market right now. The app was developed by the excellent antivirus company TotalAV. It has outstanding features that can protect you from adware and malicious threats.
Features of Total Adblock:

Step 4. If you use Android 10+, you will see the main screen of the app > tap enable to turn on HTTPS filtering.
How to Stop Ads from Popping Up on Browser
There are multiple optional browsers with an Ad-blocking feature available for Android devices. For example, both the Opera browser and the Samsung Internet Browser are good at blocking Ads on Android. But it’s worth mentioning that they won’t block Ads by default before you download a blocking extension.
Follow this tutorial to stop Ads from popping up on Chrome:
Step 1. Launch Chrome, click on the three dots in the top right place, and then tap “Settings.”
Step 2. Scroll down to choose Site Settings, and you will find an option for “Ads” on the list.
Step 3. Choose the “Ads” option and toggle the Block Ads.
Step 4. Additionally, you also need to change the setting of “Pop-ups and redirects” in the same list. Toggle to disable it.
How to Remove Ads from Android via Settings
Turn Off the Allow Display Over Other Apps:
Step 1. Go to the phone Settings.
Step 2. Go to the Apps&Notifications > tap Advanced > tap Special App Access.
Step 3. Tap Display over other apps and toggle on the icon to turn off the feature.
Turn Off the Notification for the Phone or Tablet:
Step 1. Go to the device’s Settings.
Step 2. Go to the Apps & Notifications > tap Configure notifications.
Step 3. Scroll down to the Show Notifications section > tap Notification on Lock Screen.
Step 4. Select Don’t show notification.
Conclusion
Ads are annoying when you do your things on your phone or tablet, like playing games, watching videos, listening to music, and so on. They will drain your battery and consume your mobile data.
Blocking ads can not only smooth your phone operation and it can also save your money from trapping in fraud and malware. This post discussed how to stop Ads on Android devices using different methods. You can choose the most suitable tools to block the Ads on your phone and tablet.

Want To Win Seller Loyalty? Start With Marketplace Payments
Today, how e-commerce brands handle marketplace payments is a key business differentiator.
Today, how e-commerce brands handle marketplace payments is a key business differentiator. With online sales on the rise, today’s sellers have big opportunities in store—and their choice of where to peddle their products.
In 2020, 50 top marketplaces based in the U.S. grew sales by 40%. (The fastest-growing new marketplace, alcohol delivery service Drizly, saw 300% growth.) While top marketplaces like Amazon continue to dominate the scene, brands and e-commerce businesses looking to diversify are turning to a growing number of options—meaning that to scale up, burgeoning marketplaces must attract not just consumers, but sellers. It’s clear that to differentiate, marketplaces can’t overlook any aspect of the seller experience. That includes marketplace payments—specifically, how sellers get paid.
According to research from McKinsey & Company, offering value-added services for sellers will be key to standing out in this competitive landscape. Sellers must compete, themselves, to position their products effectively and meet customer demands for efficient order fulfillment. So, they are naturally eager to work with marketplaces that make that job easier—whether by offering training and tutorials, sharing access to data and trend analytics, or continuously improving their platforms to give sellers more capabilities and benefits.
For instance, eBay recently expanded its product authentication services for items such as watches and sneakers. Products are shipped to a team of experts who inspect each item for authenticity, offering added protection for sellers—and confidence for their customers—at no extra cost. And consider how Etsy, which started in a Brooklyn apartment, has grown its seller base to over 2.5 million people. This hotspot for handmade and vintage goods offers an array of digital toolsfor marketing and advertising, including the ability to create a custom website powered by the seller’s Etsy shop. Sellers can even access tools that help them create targeted social posts and free ads to promote their products. These kinds of value-added services are a win-win for brands and marketplaces, and they are gaining prevalence as more platforms realize the power of supporting their sellers.
But one area where most platforms can still do a better job is by building a better seller payout experience. It’s common for marketplaces to offer ACH transfers, which can take three or more business days to clear, or access to funds via a third party that charges fees to the seller. Frustrations during payment can turn off and demotivate sellers. Fortunately, other, better options are available for issuing marketplace payments to sellers—such as reloadable virtual cards that make it possible to pay sellers quickly or even in real time. Cards charge no fees to the seller and can even eliminate payment administrative costs for marketplaces. These digitally native payments provide flexibility, choice, and convenience for payees, enabling them to spend their funds anywhere—online, on mobile, or in person via a mobile wallet—in addition to options like transferring funds or cashing out.
That said, the real power of digital payments resides in the level of engagement possible for marketplaces wishing to support and retain sellers. When a marketplace makes an ACH transfer, it has little control over the payee’s experience and no opportunities to build loyalty. With a branded, customizable card, marketplaces not only stay top of mind for sellers, but they can easily build in rewards programs—say, when sellers spend their earnings at select gas stations—and even sweepstakes to engage cardholders with monthly prizes. The marketplace payment experience becomes one more way to add value for sellers and engage them at multiple touchpoints.
As marketplaces continue to proliferate, winning seller loyalty will become both more challenging and more important than ever. The good news is that many e-commerce platforms are already harnessing the benefits of digital tools to enhance seller success and satisfaction. Moving forward, companies that extend this approach to every aspect of the seller experience, including marketplace payments, will stand out as exceptional platforms amid a growing number of choices.

My guess was that they saw the decline in interest and profits caused directly by the oversaturation of both star wars and marvel and panicked. Like when legacy came out they pushed it so hard because they wanted their own sci-fi franchise to compete with both of them, and dropped Tron immediately when they acquired whichever one they bought first. Tron is their plan C (although at this point it feels like Z).
In the past 2 days I've thought of more ways it could go Catastrophically Bad than in the timespan between now and 2013 (back when I watched the now defunct Tron wiki rss feed like a hawk) in the pursuit of mainstream appeal. I saw an article try and explain what on earth Tron was to newcomers as "The Metaverse" which unlocked an all new series of fears lmao. They could try to appeal to crytobros (made even worse by the cryptocurrency that shares Tron's name). Will didney try to use it to push anti-piracy propaganda (LITERAL you wouldn't download a car)? Will they turn it into a blatant cyberpunk rip-off? Will they milk it for Nostalgia Points as That Thing That Happened In The 80s despite being so late to the 80s nostalgia train that its turned back into ore in the ground?
But. Maybe, by some stroke of luck, they do it... Okay. Like I absolutely am going in expecting that nobody told them what the blu-ray extras were setting up and Tron as is tradition gets to be on screen for like 15% of the movie (despite being famously mike wazowski'ed in his own franchise and being often reduced to A Tutorial he had yet to my knowledge been COMPLETELY absent from an installment with the exception of Identity (although I don't know for sure since I still haven't played it yet). But even in Identity you could at least argue that he's still there as a piece of important mythology that the whole game hinges around similar to how 2.0 handles it with giving Alan Tron's circuits) and they fumble the bag a bit overall.
But if anybody working on that movie could gleam ONE (1) single thing about what message Tron sends is that it encourages and inspires people to get into programming. I will acknowledge my bias because I am One Of Those People! I saw legacy for the first time when I was 12 and took the first opportunity to code in high school that I could (even though it ran during lunch) and now I'm halfway through an engineering degree (My dad showed me the first movie when I first got interested in circuits at a much younger age but my main takeaway from that was a very hazy and incredibly incorrect remembering of the solar sailer scene so it doesn't count). MAYBE they take the movie back to its cybersecurity roots, especially with internet integrating into our day to day living to even more of a degree than the last chance they had to do that, from internet banking, to smart appliances to internet fishtanks to Bluetooth bathtubs and MAYHAPS stressing the importance of said cybersecurity. Hell, I'd be happy if they took the megaman battle network approach and had programs fight malware because the smart oven is threatening to burn someone's house down. I can imagine some cool concepts with them riding the airwaves and GAAAH there's so much potential that they absolutely won't live up to, and I'm kind of okay with that. I personally think that legacy didn't live up to its potential, like wow it's been so long since the first movie came out and technology has advanced so much since then I wonder how they'll do the internet and portable devices and automated systems and handshake protocols and zip files an- WRONG! SECOND 1980S ERA COMPUTER. Like even though legacy didn't live up to my expectations of a Tron sequel, I still enjoy exploring the "what ifs" and ignoring the parts of canon that I don't enjoy. If anything it could ignite new inspiration in the fandom :)
Or it could be really bad and we get to collectively point and laugh at it and declare Automan the third installment instead.
ANYWAYS in summary if they make a program have RGB gamer circuits I WILL laugh out loud in the cinema.
I legitimately wonder who the target audience for TR3N is even supposed to be. It's clear the Tron franchise doesn't have much in the way of mainstream appeal. And none of the actors or narrative elements of the previous films are going to be featured. So, why is Disney bankrolling this thing? Did they just get sick of Leto pestering them and finally agreed to green light the film just to shut him up?
Yeah all of this. I honestly don't know.
I have long ago given up on trying to understand the choices of any large system of human actions (corporation, government, religion, political party, but ESPECIALLY corporation) as if it were a rational entity making choices like a person.
many batshit conspiracy theories stem from sheer desperation to understand just WHY these conglomerate entities choose to do things that, as far as we can see... benefit almost nobody... and don't even benefit the group as a whole, in the long term
but I think their choices are better understood as chaotic clusters of individual choices within them.
a scattered handful of individuals, in a few scattered, momentary, significant positions of power to make choices, each individually make the choice that benefits... them, personally.
their choices add up to... the Entity, as a whole, taking a direction that looks like... utter nonsense, from every perspective imaginable.
It's as if each cell in your body suddenly shifted to the course of action that... could lead to the longest lifespan for it, as an individual cell
many cells would outlive their individual life expectancy, by days or hours or minutes.
But the body as a whole, and every cell in it eventually, would die far too soon
and no one would ask why the body chose to do this. Because, clearly, it had no choice.
...that was much more serious analysis than you probably wanted. But it is 3 am and I have been in solitary covid confinement for a week and my filters for what I will post online are thinning dangerously, like a veil between this and some even more horrible world
tl;dr the actions of large groups of humans are chaos. but especially those who make up something like fucking Disney
#long post#SORRY FOR THE GIGANTIC WALL OF TEXT#but ive been thinking about this constantly for 2 days straight and have a lot of thoughts about it

𝐬𝐡𝐞 + 𝐢 = ♡

pairing: lexi x reader
plot: y/n is fezco's younger sister, with all the benefits and risks. she don't use that much drugs, and never keeps it with her since in school. y/n is pretty laid back, loves little things in life —and maybe lexi howard. but she don't have to know that. that's only y/n's secret, but can she keep it when destiny brings them closer to each other?
word count: 3.033k
warnings: mentions of drugs, vape, basic euphoria things, jules is so cute and an emotional support and a good friend (and i want it that way sorry), cute nicknames
(might make it a series, it depends on you uwu <3)
*plus, not me writing new stuff instead of finishing/making the requests i got*
✿ rue's narrating ✿
for everybody who were and outsider, y/n was pretty ordinary. waking up, waking up a little bit late, going into school everyday, going home and writing homework, watching anime and aesthetic romcom shows, helping with their brother's business with her own way... it was pretty ordinary, yeah. but what happened in y/n's house and heart, was totally unordinary, if you ask me.
y/n had a simple life, with goals and parties at weekend, sitting at the back of the class, liked to dream about better times. dreaming about going to los angeles, new york or one european contry, maybe england, france or austria, frogetting about the atmosphere of the school that sometimes choked her. too much homework, confronting with everybody who tried to sneak before her in the line at lunch, telling the idiots she didn't had weed at her —i mean, i tried too to ask, many times, but why would she lie? y/n didn't liked to lie, she found it absolutely exhausting and tiring. she liked to keep things simple.
she liked simple things too, like rain —rain at a sunny day, rain at night when the skies lights enough to sleep comfortably, rain that tapped the window loudly between two shitty talkshow episodes she watched with his brothers—, cute cats, videos about cute cats, tutorials about making those pretty resin rings to sell them and gain some more money from the rich gals of her school, cuddling up to her closest friends, kat or maddy at a sleepover, cuddling up to her brother, fez when she got her period —she liked her family. she loved her family, she loved fezco and ashtray.
and she loved another girl, but guess what? she never told us that. we had to find out in a really weird way.
✿
but for real? for you, being fezco's sister was a complete disaster.
not just because of they all knew who fezco was, but because they wanted the same from you. like, everytime when someone craved drugs or a joint between the third and fourth class, they went to get you. i wasn't so hard, since you dressed always in the same style: wearing checkered oversized pants, baggy denim jeans or fezco's old ones, topping it with comfy t-shirts or dyed sweaters, wearing platform sneakers even in winter made you uniwttingly iconic, but on the underrated side —which was comeletely, perfectly fine for you, because you didn't want to be famous in high school, or some queen bee, none of that. you just wanted to lay on the desk at the back of the class, mind your hacking business, since you didn't sell drugs —and fezco debarred you selling it when marie, your grandma got ill—, you were the master of the operating systems and other hacking program, many of the students asking help from you to correct their notes in the school's system, or handing them real money from crypto-bills. by some, this is how you got to know what kat's doing, she made you shush in front of everyone and made you swear that you won' gonna tell, even if your life is on the line —at this point, you snorted and shrugged you shoulder, looking at ashtray, your little brother from the corner of your eyes, he too thought that kat was mental-crazy about her secret life... but as long as she —and everyone else, too— payed the 50 dollar of the "handling charge", you didn't complain. anybody who came to you always feared that you gonna sell their secrets, but you weren't even interested about the sick kind of p*rn they watched or the strange, disgusting kinks to delete it from their searching history; you didn't care at all. from you, nobody gon' 'now nothin'.
but on the other hand as i told you, even though you always bragged to people from one after another that you don't sell drugs like your older brother did, didn't sell drugs and won't gonna sell drugs either in the future, your words only found deaf ears.
the proof for your words and experience was right on monday, after rue's and lexi's terrible class where rue had to tell in front of everyone what was "fun" and "super enjoyable" in the summer —to be honest, you were pretty glad you skipped the class in the school's bathroom, talking to bb while smoking on her e-cigarette before she went to buy some snack in the buffet; it was her who talked rather, you just listened to her while scolded yourself later, for not going to that class. of course, your cause for the class wasn't the hella interesting topic or standing in front of your asshole classmates, but—
—but lexi.
well, it wasn't that you liked her, or fancied her when she helped you, or watched as she twirled her locks around her finger while concentrating on a hard question, or fantasizing about how is it like to be between her legs in her girly room, your eyes rolling back in the back of your head while she tugs your hair, stroking your face as her legs tremble and closing around your head—
yeah, maybe you liked her. just a little, tiny bit.
but now, with rue in front of you, you felt that your week has begun.
"please, y/n, just a little bit, like a little bit fentanyl or something else please, i need it", she pleaded, but you couldn't do anything.
"rue, i swear you that i don't have any. i didn't have the week before this, i don't have this week drugs with me either, and guess what? i'm not gonn have next week too!" you tried to shrug off her before lexi would discover the situation the two of you stood in —you perfectly knew that lexi and rue were like, best friends, but some real shit had to come in as a cause when they parted. you were there when rue overdosed herself —only sitting on the couch of the bennett household's living room for ten minutes, you saw everything, heard everything, and felt everything. saw rue's compeletely lifeless body, leslie's worried, tearful eyes, hearing gia's agonizing wails, feeling the sorrow that bite your throat even when you ran home, slamming the door of your room, hiding under your blanket until two a.m. —but you had to tell fezco the whole thing, yet you didn't had the energy to see his face if the two of you drove to the hospital. it's just another story, and you didn't want to get tired right on monday.
"nevermind, i'm gonna use what i have already", rue responded, but y/n hold gently her sweater-covered elbow.
"i don't think you should take fentanyl this early" y/n muttered, her voice being gloomy because of the tiredness. she was up late yesterday night because of the upcoming episodes of blue period, one of the new favourite animes of her. everytime rue wanted to take drugs, she remembered that horrible ten minute at her house, at that day.
"how do you know that i use fenta-" the other girl tried to ask, but then she remembered that fez handed her when the dealer's two sibling watched walking dead at night. "i tell you again, y/n, nevermind. but tell fez that i want drugs again, so prepare for me some."
y/n opened her mouth, but just sat on beside the sink, wiping her nose into the hem of her half white-half pastel green sweater, waiting for the class to end, to hear the end of bb's story —if she ever comes back.
the door of the bathroom opened again, but it was not bb —it was lexi. y/n immediately wished that instead of taking her usual skincare routine, she slept in too late —at half three a.m, was it rather too early? nevermind, y/n sat there still, a little bit frightened because of rue, and because she didn't want to say anything dumb or miserable in front of her crush.
"hey y/n... where's rue?"
lexi's voice was silent, a little bit shaky —probably she was just worried about rue. y/n thought fast —should she betray rue? it wouldn't be a betray, everybody knew that rue did drugs, and not helping lexi was 1) being and asshole move 2) being an asshole move because who the crack don't help her crush in everything? besides, lexi's gonna find out in a half minute even without her, so y/n just pointed with her finger in the direction of the only locked toilet in front of them.
lexi and rue argued a little bit, rue looked at y/n with annoyance, but y/n didn't take it at herself —her friend flushed all her fentanyl down on the toilet, and it was... right? right, because doing drugs on this level was hard for even y/n. "you say all this, but what happens in three days, when you knock on my door asking me to piss in some tylenol bottle? what, you're gonna say the opposite? how we've known each other since pre-school and we're best friends? it's like you have a split personality disorder. sorry if i miss the old you."
rue went out without lexi's venting, y/n didn't know what to say or do —lexi looked so abandoned and exhausted, she just wanted to wrap her in her arms in her bed, but it was impossible.
"sorry that you had to see this." lexi spoke to her, going to the sink to wash her hands. y/n shook her head, playing with the beads on the strings on her white platform sneaker.
"it's my fault at one point, don't do that, lex. don't believe what her narcotic-junkie mind says, it's not the real rue."
"i know, but it's hard. seeing someone so low... especially because she was my best friend. she still is, she' still my friend, my best friend." lexi leaned on the pink sink beside her, and y/n's hands grew clammy at the closeness of her hand beside her leg. y/n grew a little bit angry at rue —she probably didn't know that there were people who wanted to be lexi's best friends, because being lexi's best friend probably meant the best thing in the world, and yet she took it for granted. and the things she said to lexi... y/n would slap herself a thousand times with a brick if she even dared to brag out that shit.
"i'm gonna talk to her."
"you don't need to, y/n. really."
y/n thought it otherwise, but she let it. if she gets home today, she's gonna tell fezco to cut the drugs from rue or raise the price just for her —it was dumb, but for real, rue needed to come clean.
"okay then... what class do you gonna have?" she asked as she slided further on the sink, preparing to get down.
"history, and you?"
"maths" y/n exhaled, preparing herself to the next class —not that she was bad in maths, but she didn't had the mood for the whole thing at all.
"good luck. and thank you, for the support and all" lexi touched y/n's leg to brush it —and that's when y/n pulled her leg away, not because she didn't like it. hell, she dreamed about this, but this was so sudden that she didn't know what to do. sliding out of lexi's touch, the other girl looked at her worrying, placing her hand into the other, bending down her head while looking at her through her eyelashes. the sight of it made y/n go crazy, and still, she felt like the worst admirer in the world. "sorry, y/n, i didn't wanted to— i mean, thank you, and i did this because—"
"it's fine, lexi, it's nothing just—" the two girl apologized to each other, speaking at the same time, and when y/n wanted to clarify that it's okay, i was just lame and i'm just too much into you, every girl in the school seemed to defile the bathroom, filling it with their laughter, listpick stains and pissing sounds. the whole scene was totally helpless.
"i have to go, lex. see you soon", y/n said and jumped down from the counter, sliding between two girls, not looking at lexi. reaching to the asile, she scratched her wrist and arm; bad habit of hers. whenever she felt uncomfortable or a total failure, she tried to lessen her embarassment with those scrapes —and now, she felt both at the same time.
at least she knows the secret hallways of the school, so she don't have to face lexi today —even it was a dumb move, y/n was much more anxious than anybody when it came to the ones she loved... and the ones she loved but they didn't know.
✿
"why isn't y/n here?" kat asked, while everybody sat at the table when it came to lunch break. at the table sat bb, rue, jules, maddy, cassie, lexi and kat herself, but one place missed —it was y/n's, even if she was a little bit and ousider from this clique, everybody at the table loved her.
"i dunno, maybe she's smoking outside with somebody" bb guessed, shrugging her shoulder.
"gosh, and she said she doesn't have drugs!" rue complained, but cassie leaned in closer.
"y/n never have drugs at herself, why would she have now?"
"yeah, it's pointless. maybe she's writing her homework or something, or taking a shit..." kat continued, fiddling her grapefruit.
"i need to find that bitch, i'm gonna need some molly to the carneval and fez didn't had when i got to him... i need to talk to her" while maddy talked, jules typed in her phone under the table, trying to reach the missing girl.
juljul
hun is everything fine? you aren't here where r u?
"who saw her last time?" kat suggested, rue looked at lexi unwillingly.
"us. i mean... it was lexi. "
"cool. lexi, do you know anthing about y/n?"
"no, but... she acted weird when i tried to compliment her."
"what do you mean compliment? in a toilet?" cassie's smile was dumb, but lexi didn't pay attention.
"she said she supports me, and she wanted to help me. but when i tried to brush her leg as a thank you, she just flinched away, kinda weird."
jules' phone pinged.
lovie
ye everything fine just preparing for next class
it wasn't y/n-type —sure, y/n was very prepared to every class, but it was like she knew things naturally. jules felt that something is not alright, but she didn't want to bug her with questions. rather in private, when they're working together on a project.
juljul
okay than bubs you gonna go come to history?
y/n began to type.
"did she text back to you?" cassie asked from her. "i sent her messages too but she didn't even watch them." jules almost lifted her eyebrows.
it was more strange now. but she won't gonna let down one of her best friends.
"no, it's just some tinder fuckboy. y/n is silent as fuck, gives me bad kind of chills." she lied.
lovie
always juljul see u next class
✿
y/n didn't say much to jules either, but the other was eager to know more. for her, y/n was always so mysterious yet so soft, but that's why she loved her —she was like a fluffy cloud, nevermind the rainy or sunny days either.
"girl, what the fuck did you do with lexi?"
"what do you mean?" the y/h/c girl muttered back, scribbling down what was on the board.
"like, you weren't there with us on lunch, and you were with lexi before it... which means that you two did something. tell me, y/n." she demanded jokingly, hugging y/n's arm.
"you figured it out well, sherlock" y/n answered, getting a boop on her nose from jules' pointer finger. "it's nothing, just some arguing with rue and she, i gave some advice, that's all."
"okayish... but you sure there's nothing more?" she asked, y/n nodding her head slowly, fiddling with her pen. she didn't look into jules' eye —she knew that there's omething else, she could feel it, but she could never say. another handicap of y/n's cloudness.
"i guess. just some unnecessary girly shit." jules giggled with her, than y/n stood up, asking the teacher to a permission to go to the toilet. as soon as she stepped out, jules got her phone out.
jules
y/n said nothing but i know there's something
maddy
bitch that's crazy y/n sweet but sometimes annoying as fuck bc of this
kat
let's sneak on her i mean, it can be dangerous as fuck if she doesn't tell us
maddy
that's right
jules
she ain't gonna be mad?
kat
even if she is, she gonna be glad that we helped her yeah, that was right. jules leaned on the desk, but at the same time she swept down y/n's notes. leaning down to collect it, she noticed something —something sketched down into the corner of the paper; a very simple outline of a heart that even a nine year old kid could draw; and four very revealing letters.
lexi
jules hid her gaping mouth behind her hand, holding the piece of paper like the bigger secret she got to know —basically, for y/n, it was the bigger secret of hers. she didn't know what to do; text maddy and cat? or cassie? or should she just leave it? how could she ask y/n about this?
she placed back the paper like nothing happened, but retracing the actions of the morning and what lexi said, it made all so clear —y/n was so i love her, so shy and so longing that even a simple touch was overwhelming. it was supercute, y/n and lexi belonged to each other.
y/n came back, jules muted her phone immediately —she couldn't see y/n the same from that moment. she saw her a thousand times vulnerable and softer, but stronger and insecure at the same time. a plan formed a shape in her mind, and the and the purpose was very simple.
first thing first —somehow she's gonna have to face y/n.

i hope you liked it <3 leave a comment, like or reblog if you want (seriously you motivate me with it)

This is the fourth time you’ve screwed up your eyeliner. With an irritated scowl, you reach for a makeup wipe, ready to start again.
You hover, with the tip of your liner angled to attempt another wing, before sighing and setting it down on the dresser behind you.
“Do you have something to say to me?” You demand of the intruder in your room, crosslegged in your bed with your pillow cuddled in his lap. Taehyung straightens when he’s addressed, but he continues to watch you with wide eyes and a slightly slack jaw.
“Does this painting of your face have any cultural significance?” He wonders aloud, still staring in bewilderment. You’re not sure why he’s in your room- he’d shuffled in about a half an hour ago and had been seated quietly on your bed since.
“It’s makeup.” You tell him, before turning your attention back to your eyeliner.
A warm, large hand lands on the join of your neck and shoulder and you start so violently that you end up drawing a thick dark line of eyeliner from the corner of your eye up over your eyebrow. The warmth of his large palm bleeds through the fabric of your pyjama shirt and the weird pulsing in your heart at the sensation has you tempted to shrug him off.
“Taehyung!” You cry in exasperation. He pulls his hand back, shoulders folding in like he’s a scolded puppy. You wince at the posture, before taking a deep breath to calm yourself. “Taehyung, if you have something you want to say, then say it. Please. Is there something wrong?”
He hesitates for a moment.
“I was simply curious.” He finally says. “Nayeon told me you were attending a human gathering; I want to know why you’re painting your face for it.”
You reach for the makeup wipe and risk a glance at the clock. You’re not quite running late, but you are cutting it close.
“It’s not really paint.” You say. “It’s just.... it’s things that make me feel prettier.” You attempt to explain, because how do you explain the concept of makeup to an alien? And a beautiful alien, at that- his features are already perfect. Smooth, flawless skin, sharp, cutting brows, deep, hypnotising eyes. There’s no enhancing Taehyung’s features because to do so would be an act of hubris; to assume a human could improve his natural countenance is to fly too close to the sun on shoddily made metal wings.
He nose wrinkles as he picks up a lipstick to examine it.
“How does this make you prettier?” He questions, holding it between forefinger and thumb like it’s a dangerous weapon that may detonate at any moment. You grab it out of his hand and remove the lid, resigning yourself to a makeshift tutorial since you know it would be cruel to leave Taehyung to his own insatiable curiosity while you’re gone for the night. That, and should you leave him and he ask Nayeon, you know you’ll return from the party with him looking like a clown. You’ll never catch Nayeon slipping when it comes to a good ol’ prank.
“It’s lipstick. It colours your lips.” You explain, puckering your lips as you apply it for demonstration. Taehyung watches curiously, squinting at your mouth and leaning in far closer than necessary to scrutinise the matte finish.
“But why would that change your “prettiness”?” He wonders. “It’s simply changing the colours.”
You sigh; it’s not like mere humans would appear attractive to him if he has a planet full of people as beautiful as him. You don’t like your chances at explaining the concept.
“Well, by changing the colour it stands out more. It draws people’s attention to your mouth. That’s considered attractive.” You admit. He blinks.
“Is there some sort of special significance to your mouth colour for humans that they take notice of that?” He wonders.
You feel your cheeks flush, despite yourself. You had prepared yourself to explain to Taehyung the concept of makeup- foundation for smoothing your skin, mascara to lengthen your lashes; but this strain of conversation is fast veering into an uncomfortable zone. The people on his planet wouldn’t need to draw attention to their mouths; the shape of his mouth is plenty noticeable already and you’re sure many women who see him have the same thought; what do his lips feel like? And that’s assuming the people on his planet even do things like kiss or go on dates or fall in love. Explaining the concept of human attraction to him is a little too cringe.
“Kinda.” You say vaguely, in lieu of explaining. You switch tact, reaching for your eyeliner once more. “This one is to make my eyelashes more obvious. It accentuates my eyes. That’s also attractive.”
“They warned me humans have strange customs.” Taehyung observes. “So humans think brightly coloured mouths and painted eyes are attractive?”
“Well, it might seem dumb to you, but, yes.” You admit. “And a lot of our worth is placed on how attractive we are. You know what they say- fake it till you make it.”
“Forgive me for saying so,” He begins uncertainly. “But it really seems to me that human standards of what is attractive seems... a little shallow. You have to paint your eyes very precisely to be considered of worth, on this planet?”
You nod, and the lapse in conversation allows you to finally finish your eyes. As you set your eyeliner down, you find him scrutinising you. The look is a strange one; mouth parted and eyes slightly unfocused, he stares down at you like you’ve suddenly sprouted an extra limb.
“I feel that it hasn’t altered your base appearance sufficiently.” He finally concludes and you bristle in anger, offended. “Your attractiveness remains the same level as before.”
“Alright then, o humble master, what does the soohisticated palate of your people find to be attractive?” You counter, and he winces at the lack of warmth in your bitter tone.
“Well, attractiveness on my planet is more about internal characteristics. People become beautiful once you know their heart.” He explains sheepishly. He peeks at you shyly and his tongue darts out to moisten his lips in a nervous gesture. “Emotional connections are very important to us. Nothing is more important than a kind heart.”
It might be the lighting, but his skin looks slightly tinted purple in the warm light of your bedroom. You’re too busy processing his words to dwell on it much.
“Really? So you guys don’t look at looks at all? Surely that’s not true or you wouldn’t have a planet full of drop-dead gorgeous people?.” You ponder skeptically.
Taehyung’s eyes widen.
“What do you mean?” He asks. You shrug, and gesture at him. There’s not really sufficient words to convey what you mean- it would be far quicker for him to look in a mirror.
“Well if everyone looks like you on your planet then surely there’s some sort of genetic beauty enhancement-“ you say, and to your surprise, Taehyung flushes a brilliant purple. The splash of deep colour across the high arch of his cheek bones is oddly endearing. Although, you can’t think for the life of you why he might be brushing.
“So you find me attractive?” He questions, and your eyes widen when you realise your mistake.
“Ah, no, I just meant... your species!” You flail. “Not you personally, but your entire planet matches with what we see as beautiful- and by “we” I mean society as a whole, not just my personal taste- there’s absolutely no personal taste or individual attraction that plays into this-“
“You fit our beauty standard too.” Taehyung cuts your floundering off. His words are soft and yet they somehow manage to cut through your overly-loud protests. You fall silent and the quiet that follows seems to ring in your ears.
“What?” You ask softly. Taehyung’s cheeks are dark, darker than you’ve ever seen before.
“A kind heart.” He repeats. “The most attractive and beautiful feature someone can have on my planet is a tendency to care for others.”
He shoots you a quick, embarrassed look.
“That’s what you have.” He confesses with an awkward cough, and then he leaves your room like he came into it- without announcement or flourish.
By the time you process his words, he’s long gone, having left you alone with flushed cheeks and a weird pounding feeling in your chest.
You’re late for the work party.
