Yay, finally, here's the next chapter of Down With the Rickness!

In this chapter, we're going to check in with Space Beth & SumSum, AND we get to hear Rick's thoughts on Jerry's plan. Took me long enough, but Chapter 9 is here and below the cut!

Also, I've decided to start posting screencaps with the new chapters on here & with the links on my other socials, and thought this would be a good one to start with, considering where the previous chapter left off. 😁

Meanwhile, Space Beth was saying to Gearhead, “500 flurbos for these? Please tell me that’s a joke and you don’t realize how much you suck at comedy.” She glared distastefully at the set of cybernetic screwdrivers on the counter in front of her.

“Mean! And 500 is more than a fair price for these, lady.” Gearhead argued. “Take it or leave it.”

“It would be a fair price for the newest model, sure. Not these. Granted, they’re a step up from what Dad has now, but this set is not worth 500 flurbos. Yes, he’s paying me back, and no, I don’t particularly care about you trying to rip him off. But I have zero patience for your sleazy sales tactics. So either bring out the better ones, or knock half the price off these.” SB said, picking up the index and middle finger screwdrivers to inspect them more closely. Unimpressed, she tossed them back on the counter.

“Got it. No sale. Try haggling somewhere else, and…” Gearhead said crossly, grabbing the screwdrivers and starting to put them away. Then, something occurred to him.

“Wait, did you say these are for your dad?” Space Beth nodded.

“But, I only have 3 clients who buy these things, and the only one with a kid is…”

“That’s right.”

“That means that you’re?...”

“Sure am.”

“And you’re not the you that mostly just stays on Earth, taking care of donkeys, are you?”

“Horses, actually. And no, I’m not.”

Gearhead gulped audibly, realizing he’d definitely picked the wrong customer to try and swindle. Space Beth’s grin was unsettling him more by the second. She pulled a large, futuristic looking gun from its holster and raised it slightly.

“H-hold on a second! Let’s talk this over! I didn’t do anything that bad! You’re not really gonna kill me just for trying to get a few extra flurbos from you, right?!” Gearhead stammered, shaking in his boots. Beth kept her gun aimed at him for a few more seconds, then placed it on the counter, laughing.

“Nah. Mostly because this thing could use a few replacement parts, too. And I understand you’re the best person for the job. So, let’s make a deal. For 500 flurbos, and me not reporting you to your planet’s Better Business Bureau equivalent, how about you give me the parts I need, plus the better screwdrivers for Dad?”

“Deal! I’ll even do the upgrade on your gun right now!” Gearhead agreed quickly, pulling out supplies for the repair job, as well as a better set of cybernetic screwdrivers.

“That’s what I thought.” With a smug smile, Space Beth handed over the money.

“Tell Rick I said hello. Haven’t heard from him in a while again. Not since that whole ‘intervention turned birthday party turned kidnapping’ thing with the weird little dude. And, ummm, you’re not going to mention that I tried to, uhhh…” Gearhead said nervously as he started to tinker with the weapon in front of him.

“Don’t care enough about either of you for that.”

“I see. Ya know, you say that, but you’re obviously here as a favor to Rick. And you wanted to make sure he got both his money’s worth, and the best parts in my shop.” Gearhead prodded. That hit a nerve, and Space Beth was clearly flustered.

“You do realize I have a fuckton of weapons besides the one you’re fixing, right? I won’t shoot you because I need you to do that, but I can and will make you work at gunpoint if you don’t back off. Understood?” she threatened, quickly hiding her reaction to Gearhead’s words.

“Okay, okay! Message received! I’ll be done fixing this in about 20 minutes.” Gearhead agreed.

“Good. And I guess when I bring these to Dad, it won’t hurt to tell him you said hello.” Space Beth conceded. Gearhead didn’t say anything else to her, and she chose to ignore that what she heard him mutter was almost certainly, “Like father, like daughter. But I think the daughter’s even worse!”

Summer was not faring as well at the Martian cell phone store.

“Look, even if I believed these charges were mistakes on our end and not the results of a drunk dialing spree, which I don’t, it’s been almost a year since Mr. Sanchez’s service plan with us was terminated. The dispute window is 90 days Martian time, or roughly 126 Earth days. No exceptions.” a very annoyed, bright pink alien said, staring distastefully at the old, tattered bill in his hand.

“But…”

“But nothing! ‘No exceptions’ means No. Exceptions.”

“Excuse me, but do you have any idea who my grandfather is?” Summer asked cockily, hands on hips. Instead of being impressed or frightened, the alien just looked more annoyed and bored, which hadn’t seemed possible a moment before.

Rolling all five of his eyes, he answered, “Unfortunately for me, yes. I just said his name, didn’t I? And unfortunately for you, this store is one of the few places in this galaxy where that name doesn’t carry any weight.”

“But what if?...”

“NO. Look, the only reason we’re not pursuing legal action against Rick, or even trying to collect what he owes, is that everyone here, myself included, just doesn’t want to deal with his shit anymore. It’s easier to cut our losses and be done with him. Do I make myself clear?” the annoyed creature stated.

“Okay, but… Ugh. Alright. Fair enough. Grandpa won’t like it, but y’know what? That’s his problem.” Summer reluctantly agreed. Considering she was every bit as annoyed with the situation as the alien man in front of her, she couldn’t really see arguing with him further.

Back on Earth, Morty was carrying a pile of blankets roughly half his height. Some pillows and two more boxes of tissues were perched on top. He was struggling to look at something on his phone and keep from dropping the pile, which he couldn’t see over.

“I’m back, Rick. I figured this was enough to start with, plus I didn’t trust you alone any longer. You are still here, right?” he said as he walked back into the living room.

“*Cough!* Yes, Morty. You won, remember? I’m not going to try any more experiments to get rid of this stupid cold – uh, I mean alien virus that I definitely caught far away from Earth.”

“Huh? Why are you back to your dumb lie about that?” Morty was understandably confused. After dropping the new supplies onto the couch, he was able to see again, and immediately noticed Jerry was there.

“Oh. Hi, Dad. Yeah, now that makes sense.” he said wearily. Jerry ignored him, staring intently at Rick.

“Well? I explained my entire plan to you, and you haven’t said a word. What do you think, Rick?”

“You explained your ‘brilliant’ idea to Rick? The one where you’re going to magically know how to cure his mysterious alien virus after you watch an episode of Sailor Moon a few times? Oh, this is gonna be good. Yeah, Rick. What do you think about that?” Morty said with a chuckle, fully expecting Rick to start mocking Jerry relentlessly. At first, all he got for an answer was Rick gesturing for him to give him more of the blankets.

As Morty wrapped two more around him, Rick cleared his throat and finally said, “There’s definitely some flaws in your logic, Jer. A few things I’d do differently. But overall, your plan’s solid. I *COUGH!* I get what you’re trying to do.”

“Go on.” Jerry said, while the only word completely dumbfounded Morty could manage was “WHAT?”

“There’s just one thing I can’t get past, Jerry. Sure, Sailor Venus tries her best to help the other girls, and she means well and crap, but isn’t the premise of the entire episode her being terrible at it? Correct me if I’m *Sniff!* wrong, since this is literally the one thing in the universe you might know more about than me. But it is, right? Doesn’t the 90’s dub call this episode “No Thanks, Nurse Venus!” specifically for that reason? Because the others don’t want her taking care of them because she sucks at it?” Rick continued, eagerly grabbing one of the tissue boxes.

“Well, yes, but…” Jerry said hesitantly. He had a feeling he knew where Rick was going with this and he didn’t like it.

“So, if you’re trying to learn how to deal with this sickness from watching her, won’t everything you’ll learn be well, wrong?” Rick pointed out.

“I, I hadn’t thought about that.” Jerry admitted, the realization slowly washing over him.

“That’s the biggest flaw you see in this plan, Rick?! Really? And Dad, you said yourself that she was bad at taking care of the other girls – why are you acting like this is news to you?!” Morty asked, disappointed by Rick’s reaction.

Rick sshshhed him, while Jerry said, “I did know that, but I guess I hadn’t really thought about how it would affect the outcome of my plan. Everyone does get better in the end, but that’s just because they defeat the monster, isn’t it?”

“Yeah, sounds like it. *Cough!* *Cough!* There’s also the fact that, while the illness was caused by some sort of magic spell, for most of the episode, don’t they all think they’re dealing with an ordinary flu? I mean, how’s that at all *ACHOO!* relevant to us?” Rick replied.

“Are you fucking kidding me?!” exasperated Morty sighed. His father and grandfather both ignored him.

“I guess it’s not. Not even a little.” Jerry said sadly, looking more and more defeated. He held onto the tape tightly but let the rest of his supplies fall to the floor.

“Okay, Rick. I’m not going to be able to help you beat this weird sci-fi sickness you have, but I can still make your day a little better. Go ahead and make fun of me. Another stupid, useless idea from stupid, useless Jerry. Let me have it.” he sighed.

“I could, but you meant well, Jer. You’re way outta your league with this thing, but you tried to help me out anyway. Even if this was never going to work – and it wasn’t - , I *COUGH!* appreciate the effort. *COUGH!* *COUGH!* Ow.” Rick answered, his voice growing hoarser.

“That’s awfully nice of you. Too nice. Either you’re making fun of me in a much more subtle way than usual, or you must really feel terrible, Rick.” Jerry commented, watching his father-in-law closely. It was hard to be sure with all the blankets wrapped around him, but he seemed to still be shivering in spite of them. His nose was red and irritated, and he looked considerably more unwell than just a short time ago.

“Dad’s actually got a point. Are you getting worse?” Morty worried, feeling Rick’s forehead again. Still a little too warm, but not alarmingly so. And there was no noticeable change from earlier.

“Morty, stop that. If you insist on fussing over me, there’s better ways to do it. For starters, I’m still cold.” Rick complained, pulling away from Morty’s hand.

“Better?” Morty asked, wrapping another two blankets around him. Rick nodded.

Then, forcing a laugh, he said, “To answer your question, Jerry, eh, maybe a little of both. Mostly the second one, though. I’ll be okay, and let me repeat again, this thing isn’t dangerous. But I *SNIFF!* guess it’s pretty obvious I’m having a bad time right now, huh?”

“Well, yeah. If this is what it just mimicking an ordinary cold does to you, I’d hate to see what happens when it moves onto something worse. Does Mimicking Disease also act as a Magnifying Disease? Like, the version of whatever it’s copying is magnified to be x amount of times worse than the real thing?” Jerry replied. Rick glared at him, at first angry over the implication, then miserable over the fact he could easily see where Jerry got that idea from.

“No, it doesn’t. And I’m done talking about this now.” Rick groaned, flopping down on the couch in his blanket cocoon.

“Right. You should get some rest, Rick. Especially since I’m certainly not going to be curing your illness today.” Jerry sighed, getting up to leave. He gathered up the notebook and writing utensils he’d dropped.

“Dad, wait. Yes, you should let Rick sleep, but now that you’ve finally realized your dumb plan is dumb, I could still use your help with some stuff.” Morty said, following Jerry as he started to leave the room.“*SIGH!* Not now, Morty. I have a lot to go think about. How could I have been so sure about something, and been so wrong?” Jerry mumbled, heading back towards his man cave. Morty followed him a few more steps, then gave up and went back to Rick.

Midha and Stoica are not the only ones who view AI regulation as existentially for the industry. Open-source AI has powered the most thriving Silicon Valley startup scene in years. Opponents of SB 1047 say the bill will benefit Big Tech’s closed-off incumbents instead of that thriving, open ecosystem.

From Gizmodo's article on new California bill designed (essentially in practice, let's cut the bullshit here) to give the major players like Microsoft, Google and Midjourney the monopoly on AI.

Because hey, I said it multiple times and I'll say it again: all the attempts at curbing AI development were dictated by either those who want to maintain the monopoly, like Microsoft by way of OpenAI, or those who want to jump on the AI bandwagon, cash out and kick everyone else off the bandwagon, like Manbaby McEmeraldmine.

I pointed out how full of shit the "miraculous" Nightshade is. It doesn't protect your art from the corporations by design - if it did, it would be SLAPPed into oblivion under flimsy pretenses like "unlawfully reverse-engineering proprietary software". Now we have a horde of Butlerian jihadists, egged on by self-proclaimed "AI experts" whose "expertise" ends on listening to sales pitch bullshit and reading decades-old science fiction novels, push an act to punish AI developers "for the potentially catastrophic dangers of their AI systems". I'm sorry, what "potentially catastrophic dangers" are we talking about in regard to tech that nobody trusts to do serious work? Are they expecting an explosion of fad diets involving rocks and Elmer's glue? Do they really think someone's gonna measure an important structure in kilotomatoes and uses a buffalo heart tomato as a reference instead of cherry tomato or the other way around? Are they preparing for airline chatbots stating it's okay to bring gallium, firearms or explosives onto an airplane?

"Potentially catastrophic dangers" is the usual term of "we have no idea how to grab you by the nuts and bring you to your knees, so we're making some new bullshit up". This can be compared to papal bulls against railroads or any homicidal bullshit the Khmer Rouge cooked up when left unattended. This is what the conservatives are making up in response to transgender people existing, and homosexual people existing in earlier decades, and women wearing trousers even earlier. Alarmist bullshit based on some sick fantasies, with no base in reality at all.

And who sponsors this bill? Oh boy.

We will be fed a lot of corporate bullshit about how the billions of dollars the corporations have mean that every half-assed algorithm they push is perfectly safe, but basement-dwelling nerds who own nothing but a gaming PC and a box of Kleenex should be essentially forbidden from tinkering with open-source algorithms, because, uh, reasons. Like, cutting into a $250 million a year profits of a corporation.

But, the list doesn't end here. Who also signed the laughably brief and meaningless statement by, hahaha, "Center for AI Safety"?

This reminds me of the recent revelations about "Green" parties and movements in the EU, chiefly Germany, who received covert funding from Gazprom for fucking decades, all in the name of opposing clean nuclear energy and buying more and more Russian gas to be used for generating energy in the EU.

We're still not done, though. More names I'd like to point your attention to:

Thuan Q. Pham (Former CTO, Uber, Board member, Nubank)

Josh Wolfe (Co-Founder & Managing Director, Lux Capital)

Crypto bros, bank board members, vulture capitalists, in one word: frauds. They want a return on their investment in the major corporations and can't afford any more shocking reveals that shitposts from Reddit are served as genuine advice and that corporate data models still contain shittons of copyrighted images from Disney et al. They also can't afford localized open-source models cutting into the corporate profit margins by virtue of barely working and still providing comparable results for less.

Don't get duped, folks. This bill is just another corporate-sponsored hit piece, and basted in alarmist bullshit three feet thick.

I'm having a bit of a rough time lately...Can't really focus on any writing or one single piece of art for too long - I just keep jumping all around and it is exhausting. So...I just decided to talk about my main character since I'm feeling more comfortable with sharing things about her. And be warned, this will be all over the place as well.

Here is her SBS trivia:

And below the cut are lots and lots and lots (and I mean, a lot) of details of development, fun facts, and further info on my girl.

🌙 Carmen is incredibly morally grey - I place her very firmly as a chaotic neutral.

🌙 Some cute, lighter things before I get in too deep with her character: As a child, she was very much a daddy's girl. She loves to make things; especially jams, wines (jet fuel, save for a lavender wine that is surprisingly pleasant), suncatchers, jewelry, and the occasional tambourine. She can read the stars. She really likes sweets - her favorite flavors being caramel, honey, and cherry. And she really loves peaches - her Devil Fruit was once a peach. As mentioned above, typically in a real-world setting, her mother is from Japan, so Japanese is usually a second language for her, but it hasn't come in One Piece. But she also really loves miso soup, especially when it reminds her of her mother's cooking. Her mother brushing her hair is a very fond memory for her, and she grew it out for her mother - playing with hair is a major sign of affection for her. She really likes the ocean and she misses swimming.

Anyway...

🌙 She won't hesitate to become violent - there's confidence in her abilities that can even overflow to arrogance at times. In fact, Carmen was so similar to Kid, I had to tone some things down. For example, in Gundam, she had the short choppy hair (which she gets at some point in every insert, but more on that later) and she always wore goggles either on her head or around her neck. She was a mobile suit pilot and she loved working on her machinery, so I took the tinkering and mechanic aspect away from her. Although...I do still have an old mechanic pin-up drawing I did a few years back...

🌙 Carmen still thinks robots are cool, though! Didn't take that away from her. She also likes dinosaurs, dragons, comics. Since the only one I'm aware of in One Piece is Sora Warrior the Sea, she's an avid Sora fan and goes straight to the strip whenever the paper drops. She also really likes anything considered scary and strange. She likes to catch spiders, lizards, insects. As mentioned above, she has a fascination with Thriller Bark. Her favorite holiday is Halloween - she loves all things Halloween. In the real world, the Monster Mash is one of her favorite songs.

🌙 Also...in a real-world setting, she fucking loves ALF??? (She's watching ALF all the time in Gundam)

🌙 Beyond her interests and sense of humor, she herself is also incredibly...weird? Strange? Off-putting maybe? Franky will describe her as sketchy earlier on (Wandering Star, episode 5), even as she warms up to everyone, I'm not sure that opinion really goes away.

🌙 Very much a trickster - it's her base for how she functions even later in work and play. If you've read any of Wandering Star, you know she absolutely cannot be trusted - not unless you truly get to know her, at least. But before that, she knows how to read people due to her job and absolutely will use it to her advantage.

🌙 She has ridiculous willpower when it comes to reaching her goals. Originally, she wasn't going to have Conqueror's Haki, but after reading more about it, I realized it would be absolutely fitting for her.

🌙 I kept with my other rules though. No Future Sight, she can't hear the Voice of All Things, and she is not a "D". Her middle name for well over a decade has been Dolores, so I removed it entirely for that purpose. While she is good with Haki because of her upbringing in a powerful kingdom with a Haki-based military and her family being personal friends with the Captain of the Guard who would train her from a young age, she is far less reliant on it now. However, she does often pair observation Haki with her powers, and has pretty much ceased use of armament. Her whole thing is just "don't get hit", which usually works out for her with her speed and precision - but is absolutely not always the case.

🌙 She doesn't like to use shields or wear helmets, even in battle. That was a big thing that came up often in her insertions for Berserk and Gundam. With armor, she just likes to keep everything light.

🌙 She doesn't like to wear shoes. That's just always been a thing with her. She will compromise with some black flats or comfy sneakers though.

🌙 I've noticed she's always incredibly nomadic. In AOT, it was the Survey Corps. In Berserk, she was a mercenary. In Gundam, she was Airborne. She holds rank across the board, too.

🌙 On that note, I'll say she feels very much like a natural-born leader. While she can be crude and cold (often) she still always very much cares for her men, and they give love and loyalty in return. In One Piece, you'll see what she was willing to give just to be sure her men had adequate training (for victory and survival), food, clothing, and shelter. Her and her men are always like a family, that's across the board. They like to sing a lot, especially around their campfires.

🌙 Singing and dancing is something that has carried over for her since I was a child. As much as I hate it, it is a major part of her as a character and has been from the start. In One Piece especially, after certain events you'll see she'll use singing to kinda self-soothe (also I've noticed when she sings, unless she's performing, it's always sad songs or love songs???), and dancing is very freeing for her. In stories across the board, she's always working at a club of some kind that leads into the main story. For Berserk, it was pretty much the same as One Piece when the Band of the Hawk came through. In Gundam, she was working in a far sleezier little place, stole a cop car to attempt to drift it to try to impress a guy and got arrested - with current world events, they gave her the option of prison or military. She chose military and went on to become a Major, and yes, at least one war crime was committed on her part. To further illustrate her brand of violence even from back then, there was one scene after she had just lost one of her men where she stepped on ground soldiers with her mobile suit, smearing a few of them.

🌙 The pilot thing always carries over in some way shape or form. If it's not a mobile suit or an aircraft, it will be a black Jeep or a black horse. In One Piece, she will come to find she adores sailing ships.

🌙 Another really big thing that will always carry over across the board is at some point, she will lose her hair. In Berserk, she willingly cuts it off out of grief. In Gundam, her hair is already short for the main story, and you get the event in a backstory OVA. For One Piece, I know exactly when it happens. Which, across the board, it is devastating because of how special hair seems to be for her.

🌙 Also for appearance, her weight can tend to slightly fluctuate as well. In the main story for Gundam, her stomach has a bit of softness. During WS, she's very toned, bathes often. Post-WS she's still fit, but her stomach is softer, she doesn't bathe as often (maybe every 3 days). Some TMI, she's not a dancer anymore, so she doesn't have to keep everything clean-shaven down there, and she doesn't. In WS, her scent was like a sweet spicey vanilla amber on her skin and flowery/fruity for her hair. After WS, she just smells like sea salt and her captain. Even though she has a pretty bad scar between her shoulder blades (that's new for her) she will probably get the moon phase tattoo down her back that she had in Gundam.

🌙 Aside from appearance, there are plenty of core story elements that have always and forever carried over and translated to the worlds, but I think that's all I'm willing to give for now while I'm actually posting Wandering Star.

🌙 For some more character development info: If you've been following me, you've probably seen me mention a handful of times I've had Carmen since kindergarten. My first memory of her is on the playground and she was a VeggieTales OC at the time (can you believe???) But her first full, actual insertion was Sonic the Hedgehog when I was in second grade. Fun fact: her eyes are still purple to this day because of her Sonic insert.

🌙 On that note, while she's gone through many changes and developments over the past couple of decades, you will see plenty other artifacts still shining through from her inspos. Esmeralda from Hunchback of Notre Dame was one to the point where it permanently affected part of her style (fully, depending on the world. But I love her One Piece insert because it somehow let her two distinct styles come together and kinda fuse).

🌙 If you've read episode 2 of Wandering Star, her meeting everyone was based off Esmeralda's dance, and even her family house words "Let Justice Be Done" spill over from that character. And those house words have been used in multiple inserts. Though I will say, over the years I've noticed she's developed her own darker sense of justice. Oh, also the Thane family crest carried over from Berserk (it's just Skull Knight's sigil - don't tell anyone).

🌙 Another huge impact for developing her to who she is today was Lara Croft (I was just...so into Lara Croft as a child...all the Tomb Raider games...man) - that whole 'tough girl' thing has stuck, but more importantly, it was the beginning of her dual wielding that was solidified with her Attack on Titan insert. Between the two, I've had her current fighting style for a while and was delighted when I saw how similar it was to Killer's own fighting style. Fun fact: when I make her in video games, I play as her - go for the choices she would make, the armor she would wear, the weapons she would use. In my thousand plus hours of Monster Hunter World/Iceborne and Rise/Sunbreak, I have only touched dual blades for serious gameplay.

🌙 Beyond dual-wielding, duality is a major character element of her I have picked up on over the years - how she's incredibly cold-blooded and brutal with enemies, but how she has such a sweet and devoted loyalty and a gentle heart for those she loves. I noticed duality even manifested itself with her power use in the world of One Piece, even as far as the attack names themselves in the form of a big scary word and a really pretty word (i.e. Eschaton Aurora). That's how it goes for all of her attacks, except one that isn't an attack - it's the softer, loving side of her power use and it's called Honeymoon, though it's never really said. So, there ya go.

🌙 Even further, she always has twins - Rae and Ciri (Raemond and Cirilla). BUT! Interestingly enough, if (and that's a really big IF) she reproduces in the world of One Piece, it'll just be a boy instead of the twins that's she's been having for over two decades. Which...i can't figure out why...But! I do have a name chosen for him! However, I came into this planning to kill her off before she reproduces - it was a rule when I gave in to her insertion. Think I'll just let things play out like I always do.

Since I'm following the fnaf sun and moon tags I've been seeing some discussion of Sun's characterization in HW2 and while im a lurker I HAVE been sitting on thoughts on the DCA since SB dropped so I might as well put down my two cents (also spoilers for the secret ending)

It's been my opinion since literally SB came out that one of the primary effects of the "virus", should it exist, is that it exaggerates negative personality traits. It's honestly been rly fun seeing people also come to this conclusion over the past 24 hours LMAO. While I think it's primary focus was to corrupt the animatronics' security protocols so they would attack people on sight, the personality altering was an added side effect. (Added note: this is also my explanation for why Sun isn't aggressive in SB, Sun's security protocol is Moon)

So while Roxy's low self-esteem has turned into her being so obsessed with attention she'll kill you if you don't Stare at her, Monty's rocker attitude has devolved into constant destructive rage, and Chica's obsession with food has gotten so bad she's now attacking people over it, I believe we're finally seeing more of how Sun was affected. I don't think he wasn't affected in SB - the way he grabs you and refuses to let you go anywhere, the fact that he can't even handle a small mess when he literally works at a daycare. It was subtle but there was some corruption there.

I think HW2 elaborates on this. Again we see his fixation on not letting you move, his hatred of messes (to the point of threatening or actually committing violence this time and destroying the art you make when its clear from his living spaces that he usually keeps art made in the daycare). He also gets very angry at you for taking a while to do things or getting things wrong. He actively discourages creativity. While this could be laughed off as Fazbear Ent being shitty per usual, we know that Sun actually was good at his current job at some point, so this is probably further alteration. I also think this minigame takes place some time before SB given how casually he threatens to set Moon on you if you annoy him enough LMAO. Clearly still a little freaked out by him but not enough to be completely terrified of transforming.

I also think worth noting is the probability that we're playing as an adult, specifically a technician (whether it be Vanessa or Cassie's dad). If Vanny has been tinkering with Moon for a while by that point (given the secret ending, it makes it clear that their relationship is one where Moon is Vanny's sentient tool to be used), I think Sun has very good reason to be sassy and passive-aggressive with technicians at this point, considering its heavily implied Moon hasn't always been the way he is now and also less-heavily implied that Sun enjoyed his other half's company at one point.

Long story short I think the virus (should it exist) is exaggerating Sun's traits of perfectionism and being controlling, likely leftovers from when he was a stage animatronic. And with or without that explanation, his behavior also makes sense if you assume he doesn't like technicians or adults in general.

But thats just a theory a personal interpretation theory like comment suscribe 👍

What's the Magic Word?

Chapter 17: A New Crew Member! Kid tries (and fails) at poetry. I used to feel soooo cringe when re-reading these chapters thinking I wrote Kid so OOC as lovestruck, thinking about kids(hah) and marriage this early in a story but after that SBS I feel validated. Eat my disgustingly fluffy sappy love pancakes.

As the pirates sailed in search of a new island, Kid spent several days taking care of Rowena. She had become ill after the operation; he didn’t want to leave her side for a second but she would push him away, “go on Captain Kid, they need you,” she would smile at him through her discomfort.

It wasn’t until the fifth day post op that she was finally feeling better, no longer cramping or feelings of unwellness. She took a long, hot shower and got dressed, hoping to make herself a snack. Rowena was walking out the door when she was brought back inside by Kid who picked her up and began kissing her, cleverly distracting her as he sat her back in bed.

“But I feel better and I’m hungry!” she pouted at him. He pointed to the door that led directly to the pantry with his eyebrow cocked. “Ok I wanted to do some gardening and walking around, sue me.”

He chuckled, pulling her into his lap. “You’re a pain in my ass, you know that?”

“Tough shit, you’re the one who wants to marry me.” He gently bit her neck.

“Your ring doesn’t fit me, I need something to hang it on, I don’t want to misplace it.” He procured a gold chain from his pocket. “Ahh Kid did you learn how to read my mind?” she eyed him, taking the chain.

“Lucky guess,” he smirked. He watched as she looped the chain around the band to keep it from sliding. He took it from her hands and secured it around her neck, softly kissing her nape. She shivered.

“Does this mean you’ve accepted?”

“This means I am seriously considering it and leaning heavily in your favor, for now,” she gave him a sly grin.

“Good enough for me,” he kissed her. “I want you to take one more day of rest before you do anything.” She began to protest but he gave her a look.

“Fine ok. But I’m bored.”

“Watch me tinker with shit, I can show you the little robot I’ve been working on and off,” he tugged on her hand. They spent time together until dinner when he left to bring them back some food. She walked to her vanity and pulled out her family photo, looking at her mother’s face. Sighing, she sat down and undraped the crystal ball that sat there. She placed her hands over it and began to concentrate.

“I explicitly said to take the day off,” he growled at her as he walked in. She lowered her hands and covered the orb, grinning sheepishly. Kid walked up to her, hand in her hair as he looked over her family photo. He stuck it on the mirror and led her to the food. They ate in silence, Kid observed Rowena as she ate bits of food, pushing the rest around.

“What’s on your mind?”

“I’m nervous about creating a stable, long-distance marriage, aren’t you? When my two years are up, I fully intend to rejoin my crew and continue our quest and I’m not sure how you’re going to handle it.” She fiddled with the ring nervously.

Kid dropped his fork on the plate, glaring at it. “Do you have to? I thought that by accepting, you were telling me you want to stay.”

“I didn’t accept yet. I want both but I know that’s selfish.”

“Statement of the year,” he rolled his eyes.

“Don’t sass me. You and I both knew that I had a time limit here. I don’t regret the things that have happened that led us to this moment. I’m happy, don’t think I’m not. But I’m still a Straw Hat Pirate.”

“What do you want from me? Do you want me to build a huge castle so both our crews can live happily ever after? Straw Hat and me, we’re rivals.”

“Could you?” he cocked an eyebrow at her. “Build a huge castle for all of us to live in?”

“I don’t want to.”

Rowena sighed. “What’s happening to the area that once belonged to Whitebeard?”

“Blackbeard took it over, it’s a mess over there. Why?”

Tapping her nails on the table, “I just…was thinking…you mentioned a base for the crew, but like…what if we all worked together and take over a bunch of territories. They don’t even have to be that close to each other. Or maybe a mega-island that we could share, we’d each have our own ports and facilities.”

“I don’t do pirate alliances,” he said through gritted teeth, starting to get mad.

“Isn’t marriage a type of alliance?”

Kid slammed his hand on the table. “I’m done talking about this. I’m not teaming up with your Captain, end of story.” She frowned at him, putting her fork down. “You can glare at me all you want; my answer is not changing.”

“I’m not glaring at you. I am wondering why you’re being so stubborn. I’m not saying team up with us, I’m saying build me an island castle next door to their island castle. Don’t think I haven’t overheard Killer suggesting alliances with you either by the way.”

“And like I tell him, over and over and OVER again, I don’t team up with other pirates.”

“Why?”

“Because they’re a bunch of pirates! Can’t trust any one of them.”

“I trust you. And Killer, and your crew. Rayleigh and Luffy trust you to keep me safe. Don’t you trust me?”

“Princess, you’re barely a pirate.”

Now she was glaring at him, “don’t patronize me, Kid. Don’t deflect the question either.”

Kid groaned, pushing his plate aside. “Of course I trust you but you’re not like everyone else. I don’t trust any of the others from the Worst Generation.”

“I’m not telling you to trust anyone else but I want you to give my crew a chance. Like it or not, I want to be with them and go on fun adventures. I’m enjoying that with you now but I just want a relationship with you. We, we’re not bad people to be around. We do the same things you do: we party, we rob, we fight, we kill Marines, and sometimes we save people. You could do worse.”

Kid stood up and went to his desk, shuffling papers. Rowena fiddled with her chain quietly, taking bites from her food occasionally.

“I’m sorry it’s not what you want to hear. It’s the only common ground I can think of that would make this work for me. Unless you have any solutions?” He grunted at her.

“Oooooh-kay guess I’ll fuck off then.” She picked up her crystal ball and headed to the dinosaur mouth.

She sat on the floor listening to the ocean waves slapping the hull. Rowena pulled a joint from her bag and lit up. She took a deep drag and set the crystal ball up. She put her hands just above the orb and tried to clear her thoughts, humming to herself and gently letting her fingers brush against the glass. After a few minutes she opened her eyes, frowning when she saw nothing happening.

Concentrating her energy, she repeated the process. Still nothing. She sighed in frustration. Reaching into her waist bag, she rummaged around, joint hanging on her lip as she whipped out a small booklet, slapping the cover with her fingers in glee. After reading the first few pages she let out a loud “FUCK!” Crystal ball needed to be charged before use.

Rowena finished the joint and laid on the floor, toying with the chain. She sighed, “what the fuck was I thinking?”

Did she really think she could convince Eustass Kid to become friends with her friends? Was she really that starved for affection to try and have a relationship, whole ass marriage with her Captain’s rival? Did he truly not understand how courtships and relationships worked? Did she? If not, was he relying on her cues to verify what he’s doing is right?

Fuck I thought that’s what Killer is for, to raise him or something. I don’t know shit about relationships, I wish I had someone to talk to. Her thoughts spiraled.

That was how Kid found her after an hour of space. He sat down next to her as she lit up another joint.

“Am I making you anxious?” he asked quietly.

“A little,” she coughed. She held it up for him and he took a few drags. She twiddled with the gold chain.

“Was this one of your impulsive decisions? This is why people shouldn’t rush into a marriage because of an accident.” she held up the ring.

“No.” She cocked her eyebrow at him. “I meant what I said that day at the doctors – I want you or nothing at all.”

“Then I think we should figure out some boundaries or something.”

“Why can’t you just stay with me?”

“And why can’t you just entertain my idea?”

“Because I want you, not them. They don’t make me happy; you do.”

“Kid, I’m not responsible for your feelings. I don’t exist to entertain you or be at your beck and call whenever you need emotional support. I’m not your servant.”

“I don’t think of you like that!! Ugh I can’t believe I have to do this.” Kid turned bright red as he spoke.

“Rowena…you’re like the last island in the center of the fucking sea in the middle of a raging storm. I’m trying to reach your shores but the current keeps working against me. I want to dock and fall to the sand and kiss the earth. I want to drink your water and eat your fruit and make my home in your-” she held up a hand at him.

“Now it sounds like you’re trying to colonize or otherwise exploit me. I’m not an island, I’m a person.” Kid growled in frustration, head in hands. Rowena took another drag of the joint; she reached up to take the necklace off but he grabbed her hand.

“I think you need to reflect on what you think a marriage is, and if I’m the person you can realistically marry.”

“Don’t.”

“Can you name three, no five reasons, why you want to marry me that don’t include me getting knocked up or using my power to further your gain?”

He was silent, hogging her joint as he contemplated her question. She pulled a third joint from her bag and lit it. She began flexing her hands in the air and drew a ball of water to her hands.

She spun it rapidly, then her hands began pulling apart; a line of salt began to form into a sphere in her right hand, the cloudy ball of water staying in the other. She brought the water sphere to her mouth and drank it, grimacing at the taste. “Ew, big mistake.”

Kid finished his joint and tossed the dying roach into the sea.

“I want to marry you because you’re the single greatest joy in my life that I haven’t tainted or taken by force and you are so giving to a wretch like me. I want to make you my wife because I think your strength and your compassion keep you humble and humane – and you accept me as I am, though you do try to encourage me to be more humane.”

“Your beauty makes everyone else seem pale in comparison; maybe its selfish to marry you to keep you to myself but I’m not going to apologize for wanting you or loving you. You enrich every corner in my life, whether we’re just hanging out, planning schemes, or building things. I want you to be there for all of it because I think without you it will never be the same, it will all feel so plain; so I want to marry you because I want to do everything with you, sue me. I want to marry you because it’s an enticing adventure and I’m a pirate, I will always choose adventure and treasure. Do you believe me?”

She turned her body towards him, eyes wide and glassy, staring at him. “I believe you. I just want to know that you’ll be ok when I leave. Because I am leaving. I deeply care about you Kid. I want to entertain this idea – I do want it, but I just feel like it’s a fleeting fantasy.”

“Why are you so loyal to them, to Monkey D. Luffy?”

“I told you, he saved me. They showed me friendship and joy when I had absolutely nothing left to believe in. They would do anything it takes to help each other achieve our dreams as we travel together. We’re an honest to god family. I love being a part of that. I can’t give that up.”

“I can give you a family,” he reached out to place a hand on her stomach before slowly withdrawing. “My crew can be your family.”

“One day maybe but that has to wait. I’ve been a prisoner for so long and I’m not going to restrict my new freedom now. Your crew is full of eccentric and chaotic pirates and I adore them to death, I really do. I want to travel the world with my friends. I want to explore a relationship with you and if that leads to marriage with a mutual understanding that we’re both happy with, then I want that too. Please don’t trap me, Kid. That would break my heart.”

He laid on the ground with her, cupping her face. “I don’t want that, Rowena.”

“Then work with me.”

“I’ll think about it, that’s all I’ll commit to right now.” She reached her hand behind her neck again, but he touched the ring against her chest, pressing it into her skin gently.

“Keep it. You took it for a reason, a part of you wants this too. If you’re willing to take a chance on a bastard like me, wear that for me. It’ll be like a promise; that you’re taking a chance on me, and if there ever comes a day where you aren’t 100% willing to tolerate my bullshit anymore, then give it back to me. I hope you come to me and let me know if I’m doing anything that makes you start to hate me; I don’t want you to hate me, I want you to…to love m-me,” he stuttered trying to get that last bit of sentiment out. Even though he was stoned and feeling vulnerable, the words still sounded so foreign to him said aloud; goddamn he just wanted the Witch to feel that way about him.

Rowena held her hand over his, turning her face and kissing his palm. “I think I’m starting to. It scares me a little. I don’t want to give you false expectations and then you hate me when I can’t deliver. I want you to want me for me, to love me and have fun with me.”

“I already do.”

“I still think we rushed into this.”

“I know but you’re wrong,” he smirked, leaning in to kiss her. “Let’s go inside; I’m starting to feel heavy. Dibs on the table scraps.”

In the early afternoon, Killer spotted an island and called out to Kid. They turned the ship towards the land. As they docked, they noticed a tortoiseshell cat on the pier. Rowena bent down to let it sniff her hand, the cat sniffed at her and batted her fingers. As they walked up the beach, they noticed many cats lounging in the sand and in the tree line.

There was no formal community on the island, just a shit load of cats. The crew began chopping down wood and collecting fresh spring water; a small squad went hunting for game. The tortoiseshell had stayed on the pier when Rowena and Kid came back from their tour. It trotted towards the Witch and stretched in front of her, raising a paw at her shin.

“You’re a little cutie pie” she squealed.

The cat stared at her and a strange look came over Rowena. “Uhh…say again?” The cat blinked. “Huh, ok.” She turned to look at Kid who looked confused at the one-sided exchange. “So, this cat says she’ll take care of the rat problem if we let her hitch a ride.”

“What?” Meeeiiiiow.

“She says in exchange for killing your rats, she wants you to take her on the ship.”

“Are you telling me you can talk to this cat?”

“It would appear so. She is literally speaking into my mind.”

“Tell her we don’t have a rat problem and we’re not hiring.”

The cat made a low growl sound, tail bristling. She walked up to Rowena and rubbed up on her. “She said you’re clearly too emotional to make decisions and she’ll speak with me instead. Also, she can understand us just fine.”

“We don’t have rats,” Kid snapped.

“Yeah we do,” Wire said coming up with a pile of wood strapped to his back and a stack in his arms. The crew piped up agreements.

“What the fuck! Why are there rats on my ship? Who is letting rats on my ship?!”

Killer walked up, “Kid, every time you flex your powers you set the traps off leaving them ineffective.”

“Then use poison!”

“We’re in a confined space!”

MEEEOOOOOOOOOOWWWWW the cat was pacing between Kid and Killer. Kid looked to Rowena.

“She said she won’t even ask you for pets or scratches, final offer.” Kid gave her a face. “Sorry Kid, you got rats. A cat is literally offering herself up on a silver platter.”

Throwing his head back and growling in frustration he stalked back to the ship, “Fine whatever but I’m not picking it’s shit up!”

The cat rubbed between Heat’s legs the most, making trilling noises at him. Heat looked at Rowena, “she said you can clean her box. She also said she’ll be sleeping with you; you have the warmest aura in the crew.”

Heat leaned down and pet the cat, who melted into a puddle on the ground. The crew crowded and took turns doting, Rowena laughing at them cooing after the feline as she boarded the ship.

The sun was beginning to set so she went to the kitchen and made dinner for the crew. She brought the stew to a simmer and went to pick up her crystal ball from the ship figurehead where she had set it to charge. She carried it to Kid’s room and set it on her vanity, covering it. Kid came out of the bathroom; he draped his arms over her pulling her in for a kiss.

“Dinner’s ready, babe,” pulling him along.

The crew drank and ate together, chattering about the new cat. The cat to its credit, quickly caught her dinner and presented three fat rats to Kid’s feet, meowing at him. He didn’t need Rowena to tell him the message, he got it loud and clear.

The pirates reminisced of beloved pets long gone and some got a little weepier than Kid expected. The mood was getting brought down so he slammed his cup to the table, demanding attention.

“Go upstairs and party you sad fucks.”

Whooping and cheering erupted as the crew scrambled outside, rolling kegs topside.

Hello hello! Yep I can give some information

Be aware at his au is still in the works so some facts are subject to change.

But this au doesn’t fully follow SB and uses Security breach as an outline more so as not everything that happens is exactly like the game

Well start with the pizza plex

The pizza plex in this is a mega mall type thing(like the pizza plex) known as make believe it’s a place to bring you’re children that’s themed off make believe and whimsy for kids to indulge in their imagination.

There are a few performers plus some other robots in this establishment

Cell, who typically is found in a quiet area where kids who are overstimulated by the hustle and bustle or just want to do some arts and crafts go, she has two assistants Tailor and Tinker. Tinker was formerly a repair bot but got repurposed for this area and Tailor is both a security bot and a helper

Next is a place known as the tree house which is where a small robot known as Assok is found, this robot will run around and play with the children and is soft and fluffy being able to be picked up and held though a staff member is always nearby to avoid and damages to Assok, Assok also can help find lost kids and help them to security station where they can wait for their parents

Magnus is a magician animatronic who typically performs for special events but from time to time is brought out for just regular shows and can typically be found in the main area where the Stage is

Madras is typically found in one of the shops around the mall. She will barter with people which wasn’t original programmed but no one can seem to get her to stop but overall she’s generally friendly to kids at least.

Julienne and Melody run the music area where kids can go to dance or create their own music, julienne teaches them how to dance while Melody helps other kids find themselves in music.

TOby is a robot that does move to often and typically can be found sitting around in different places and typically is just surveillance.

Dial, he typically just wonders around and interacts with the kids, he’s able to record conversations and also uses his abilities like that to entertain the kids typically telling stories or updating people on news

Finally RGB the main performer of the complex. He sings, dances and performers he’s the most popular of the boys that the kids love to watch

Hate is a former bot of make believe that was tossed out she slowly webs her way through and manages to infect a few of the bots there.

Click is a guard bot that was corrupted by Hate and was discarded before being repaired by Hate and is now on a killing mission.

Hero is the child who gets stuck in the complex she comes across RGB after a malfunction on Stage and he begins to help her get out like in the original security breach, after a run in with a bot hate has control over RGB gets infected with what ever virus Hate was spreading except it doesn’t affect him the way it affects the others leading to Negative becoming an issue, when RGB sustains a sufficient amount of damage Negative can take control to neutralize the threat.

If hero gets lost Assok will help lead her to a safe place; cell, tailor, and tinker all protect her at some point from any threats; Madras will sell things to Hero to help her; Magnus has helped from time to time specifically with click encounters; TOby can be asked about the where about of different bots until Dial dumps him somewhere else; julienne and Melody help Get hero out of tight situations. Dial starts friendly and eventually starts showing he was one affected by the virus, the butterfly works as Hates surveillance and can alert any of those affected by to hero’s whereabouts. Cells crafts area is the safest area to be.

A while back I talked vaguely about a to-do list I needed to make to track all the content I'm grinding through between now and starting Endwalker, so I thought I would share some screenshots of my checklist now that I've tinkered with it for a few days:

All of the checkboxes with a colored background are fully automated btw. I just need to check the gray checkboxes when I finish parts of job quests/sidequests/relic weapon progress, and it'll all update.

On the final sheet: once the first checkbox by the patch name is filled in, I can start that patch, and then I check off the white-background cell next to it when I finish the patch.

I'm probably not going to be making more progress on anything on this to-do list until the new year. Once I start Endwalker I'll make a new To-Do list with even more optional content added, including maxing out Allied Society reputations, completing Shared FATEs, relics for Heavensward onward, and working on post-SB and ShB raids and trials that I've skipped for now due to extremely slow queues. I'll also be (eventually) getting all my jobs to Level 80 to see the Job Quest epilogues.
