on my brain for a very long time has been advertisements. Something about ads that stick in my brain ever since I came across this little thing from Lichess.

In due time, unfortunately this post will become a bit hypocritical, as we will eventually publish FNF onto mobile, and that will very likely have a free ad supported version. Hopefully that doesn't undermine my thoughts too much, however FNF is more than just me and my brain! Not everything I say goes in terms of FNF decisions! So with all that being said, let me begin shouting about everything I hate about ads.

I use adblocker on everything, and you should too. UBlock Origin has been my reliable go to. Online ads are especially an insidious breed. I'll try not to be some tinfoil hat, but I do often wonder what the internet would look like if the online ad model *wasn't* fruitful back in the early days of the internet. Would Facebook, Google, etc. have an arms race to the bottom to get infinite amounts of data on every single person ever? Would social media algorithms optimize for a different experience other than *spend as much time as possible on our site*? Ads have existed before Youtube, Google, internet though. They exist on TV, on subways and buses, on radio, in newspapers. I think for the most part my deep hatred of ads is for online kind, I do think there can be "irl" ads that I find very unpleasant. Going on a subway or sitting at a bus stop, I think people deserve more dignity from their city public transit than to have something sold to them! I don't think an ad free life should be only reserved for those who can pay for spotify premium, youtube red, etc. I think everyone should be entitled to that DIGNITY.

X (the everything app, formerly Twitter ) has a Premium subscription that costs 10$/month (CAD), and they will only give you *half* the ads in your feed. How generous of them. I will be dramatic, and say that I look at ads with disgust. I hope to think I'm somewhat justified, as most ads look like dogshit, and are pretty worthless.

For a very long time (and currently, as of writing/posting) FNF has been entirely ad free. We did stand up to putting it on other web portals that offer ads and ad payments/rev share, because we do somewhat want to be part of the change we'd like to see in the world. We want to believe in a world where someone can put out a free game on itch/newgrounds, and have the development be supported purely off donations (which FNF was supported by that in the early days / first 6 months of development!). We definitely could have made much MUCH more money if we put FNF on websites that offer ad rev share, but we didn't, and I hope that doesn't fall on deaf ears.

However we do promote our own things from within the game, Kickstarter, merch, etc. I suppose I'm less upset or even thinking about that, I think there's a big difference if we had a lil Kickstarter trailer in-game that played, opposed to having an in-game advertisement for some fuckass mobile game or some cosmetics or somethin. We specifically are still curating what we are putting in the game with our lil links to merch, kickstarter, etc.

We also provide the soundtrack on Spotify / streaming services, which do indeed get money from ads. I think I'm so detatched from Spotify ads and being angry at them, since I've been spotify premium user even at the brokest poorest in my life... i need them album downloads!!! I do think that's an aspect where there is an adfree alternative, which is Bandcmap, where you can listen to the FNF OST as much as you want, and if you pay some coin, you can download it in high quality!

My thoughts on FNF mobile with ads is that they will make me very unhappy and deeply sad. I do sincerely apologize to those of you who would be unable to play FNF on anything other than a mobile device, and aren't able to get the full mobile version, so you become punished with ads. We do hope to not be obnoxious with mobile ads. If you have a computer, even a shitty busted one that runs slow, I personally hope you end up compiling the mobile version yourself to get past ads. The thought of that lets me rest easier just a little bit. The FNF will be proudly open source forever.

There will also be a paid version of FNF mobile, that will have no ads. Pay for that one if you please.

ava has an issue with characters' driving forces

this post does have spoilers for the new episode, so i'll put this all under a "read more"

disclaimer goes away after a week, i will edit this post so be warned

there's a trend i've noticed when it comes to the main antagonists of ava and avm. theres a common theme amongst all of the villains (i'm counting second and chosen, since they are technically antagonists per ava season 1). let's explore this.

case 1: king orange

it's obvious that the thing motivating king to take over the bastion and get the minecraft icon is the fact that he lost his kid, and to an extent the kid's other guardian (wife, husband, s/o, pick your favorite); he creates a literal black hole in order to see his kid again because of an incident he couldn't control. not to mention king orange also lost purple's trust, and their support as a whole, which further emphasizes the loss of his son given that purple was a second chance, and he messed it up by losing sight of their relationship. this is something that king orange couldn't willingly control.

case 2: purple

purple experiences two kinds of loss: death and abandonment. obviously lapis (regular blue) abandons the family because they didn't approve of orchid (pink) coddling their child, something that purple couldn't control. then purple has to live with the fact that their only other parent is dying to some unforeseen reason, likely illness, and that too is something that they couldn't control.

case 3: second

second is more interesting, because it's something that gets glossed over. they're the antagonist in ava 4 up until the very end, and why does second do the things they do? because they lost their friends to something (someone; alan) they couldn't control and this is repeated in showdown; second watches dark kill their friends because of dark's own spite and hatred, which i will cover next. that is something second cannot control

case 4: dark

i think dark is a really good example of this trend; they were made to attack chosen and lost control, ultimately losing and teaming up with chosen to work against alan. then they convinced chosen to go on a conquest to essentially take over the world, which ends in dark losing chosen's trust and support as a friend due to beliefs that dark couldn't control (chosen's own morals)

case 5: chosen

compared to everyone else, chosen experiences loss and the inability to maintain control in different ways. they fought back against alan and, as punishment, was forced to be alan's pop-up window destroyer against their own will, and they can't control it then he does, freeing himself, prompting dark's creation, and eventually befriending dark and teaming up with them to destroy the world. they grew distant, not sharing the same beliefs and reasoning as dark anymore, and directly opposed dark during the virabot sequence. this all leads to chosen and dark fighting during the showdown, which is when chosen ultimately watches second kill their former friend and can't control that

case 6: victim

the whole reason why this post was made is because of victim's whole deal with mitsi. they endured abuse, lost the upperhand in that initial fight with alan, took matters into their own hands and fled the computer then met mitsi, fell in love, started a company together, and they lost her in a situation that they couldn't control, that being chosen and dark destroying newgrounds

if you couldn't notice already, there is something that happens between every single antagonist, and that's the fact that every antagonist has lost something due to circumstances they can't control

obviously the circumstances are different. majority of these antagonists have experienced loss through death, while a handful also experienced loss through losing control, losing free will, so on so forth

"why is this an issue?"

put it this way: every single antagonist is being driven by the same exact thing, just in different fonts

every single major antagonist, in some way, shape, or form, loses something. as a result they are driven to get whatever they lost back, whether it's a loved one or the love of someone that is now gone (or in dark's case, trust).

i personally believe that there was a lot of missed potential within the antagonists, as i'm sure some people think, and i think it's because instead of having characters do things out of spite or out of sheer evil, it's in an attempt to get something back.

the reason i'm saying main antagonists and not villains is because in the case of youtube from animation vs youtube, the corrupt video green in the influencer arc, the pokemon universe in animation vs pokemon, and even the entire animation vs education series, the antagonists aren't going against second and the color gang because they lost someone dear to them or they lost the affection of those around them

case in point: corrupt video green. they were never loved to begin with, and that is what causes them to lash out at the color gang and fight them. everyone turned their back on them because they were imperfect, because they loved other creations more than them

also case in point: animation vs math. euler's identity only combatted second because second was technically the one that invaded their space. they're not trying to bring anyone back to life like king orange was, they were just protecting their territory

my thoughts are a little incoherent right now but i have a point, that being that the antagonists should have another reason to do the things they do that isn't just "oh my wife/son/friend/dad and mom died"

Low score yet agian! I feel that it's targeted in a way. I think it's mainly due to people who like NSFW or loli/shota art potentially, or any weird/creepy art. Its only newgrounds, everywhere else i post is ok. I will not name any names, unless you want to. I saw a couple of other people who post PL art get this to, I won't show their art, search it yourself. Also, this art right here isn't Sue doing anything romantic with Mary, so I'm not sure why exactly it's low, but there is something suspicious behind it.

I decided to look at one person who's also gotten this. They made a newgrounds post addressing someone who made NSFW art of some PL characters and reposting NSFW art of child characters. The comments under the post were disgusting and gave off pedo vibes. I will not name the person who's also posting art and getting intentionally low scores, and I'll censor the users who post those gross comments. I don't want those weirdos finding me, and if that person who posts art on newgrounds also posts art on tumblr and has more information, please answer. It would be helpful. I'll censor anything that has a person's name in it.

I will make one thing clear, I don't give a flying fuck if you post NSFW if it's of adult characters, I won't care. I do have a problem if you post NSFW of characters canonicaly children or there's something else very wrong.

If you have a problem with a minor calling you/others out for thinking that you posting NSFW art of children is weird, and you attack said children, legitimately go to hell. It's not "toxic" that a minor is calling out that you post NSFW art of kids, it's common fucking sense. Don't give me that "Oh it's fictional" bullshit, it's still fucking weird as hell.

Im not exactly sure why it's like this on newgrounds, but yeah. If you have anymore information, please inform me of it, it'll really help.

AVA 11 Spoilers... 'How was TSC accidentally created' Theory

Okay... so, I mostly wrote this on Discord, I was going mad. this mostly talks about how Victim and Alan are capable of accidentally creating stick figures to life >_< and how TSC has powers, I decided to delete a few parts of the theory cause a few didn't make sense, it was a literal mess and a few questions were thrown into the theory so I had to clean it up.

-- INTRO

We all know TSC was never really given a symbol name and was never really programmed, somehow, he was given life by pure accident, I think the reason TSC was given life was:

Victim was the cause of his creation, how? I'd like to explain, LET ME COOK. The glowing parts that stuck to Victim's rocket is parts of The Power of Creation/TSC's power, which is obvious, but I'll not refer to it as TSC's power, rather than it just being The Power of Creation.

-- EXPLANATION

The Power of Creation is basically any type of character's code, it doesn't matter if the character is different, each code is connected, they all come from the same thing to be sentient and have life, which also creates personalities depending on the looks of the specific character. It is also a rather powerful code, which is how TSC is capable of beating TDL who had the power of destruction, which is the opposite of creation.

Not only that the character is added to the world of the Outernet, but it is also uploaded to a specific part of the media, and it is also given life due to it being part of The Power of Creation. How Sheperd, Mitsi, Navy, Purple, Pink and a few other characters came from Newgrounds, including the Stickfigure site, which created Stickcity.

The Outernet was always a thing to begin with, but they never really had the tubes before, until, Victim was also the cause of the Tubes.

What does this have to do with TSC and Alan's Capability of accidentally bringing stick figures to life? Remember the fact I said that The Particles of the Power of Creation / Mitsi's Character Code is stuck to Victim's Rocket?

Once the particles were stuck to Victim's Rocket, the way the particles were basically bringing it down to the Outernet on purpose.

Once Victim and the Rocket got into the barrier, Victim and the Rocket's colour was mostly sucked out, which is part of their code... ALAN'S PC CODE.

It created a shockwave to the whole Outernet, each creation that the Outernet had created the tubes to fix the problem if an Out-code / PC-code tries to get in, Victim is considered as a PC Code cause they basically came from a PC, but were not uploaded to The Media and are part of The Power of Creation, making him powerless.

-- CONCLUSION

This meant, that particles that stuck to parts of Alan's PC, mostly the animation program, because the items to create the rocket were specifically from that program/app...

In conclusion, Literally, Alan's animation program created the tubes with The Power of creation. Once the tubes were there and connected, particles of Alan's PC code with the particles of The Power of Creation stayed and were given to Alan specifically because he created Victim.

Making him create sentient characters to life by pure accident. Back to the biggest question... How does this connect to TSC?

TSC is capable of creating animations to life, he IS literally a living creature of The Power of Creation, Since Alan is now connected to The Power of Creation thanks to Victim, Alan can find themselves accidentally bringing characters to life into the PC.

How about TDL and TCO? Are they also creatures of The Power of Creation?... No.

TDL and TCO, including Victim, were created by pure intention, giving them a symbol name and level and programming, and their purpose, they were intentional and were given their own powers in the first place.

Plus Victim doesn't count as one cause he's the literal cause of this.

- Honestly I think he’s more of the flirt between the two of you. I just see him like that. He’s naturally a flirt and really loves seeing you flustered. He finds it really cute seeing your cheeks turning red from a compliment he gave you and he won’t stop until your whole face has turned red.

- The things this man will do to see you flustered is something. He’s really dedicated to it. I'll tell you that. He’ll range from simply complimenting you then turning that complimenting to a hundred nearly causing you to get whiplash from how quickly he escalated it. This technique definitely works every time around you. No doubt about it. He also resorts to whispering into your ear for extra flair if he’s feeling it.

- However just because he’s the most flirtatious between the two doesn’t mean he can’t be flustered in return. It is still possible and isn’t immune to it. One way you can get him flustered is simply flirting with him back. As simple as it sounds that's one of the ways you can get him really flustered.

- Do you know that one audio from the game grumps on YouTube when Arin jokingly flirts towards Dan while playing Zelda and Dan replies back , surprising Arin. Yeah it’s that just with you and GB. He can dish out compliments but as soon as you give him one in response or retaliation he immediately stops what he’s doing. Surprised that you were somewhat bold enough to return his advances.

- It definitely catches him off guard when you do stuff. He’s pretty much used to having the upper hand when it comes to stuff and although he doesn’t mind when you do, he honestly doesn’t know what to do for a bit before returning to his usual ways.

- Another way you can get him blushing is boasting about him. Although it doesn’t get him to become flustered you can still make him slightly stutter while blushing doing this. By doing this you're basically raising his ego to a whole other level. He pretends to act all tough and not be affected by it if you’re or anyone else is around but as soon as he’s by himself he’ll let himself melt into the compliments he receives from you. If you hear any noise coming from him in a certain area. No you didn’t.

MX:

- I’d like to think to a certain extent that MX is kind of a flirt around you. Although he does this he prefers to show his appreciation for you in other ways. When he is flirting with you it’s more of a gentleman way when it comes to him doing it. Something as simple as grabbing your hand and kissing it.

- When it comes to yours and his relationship he prefers to prioritize you over himself when it comes to happiness. He likes seeing a smile on your face and doesn’t like you being upset. Especially if he finds out someone made you upset in the first place. He’s naturally a protective person due to who he is. He’s literally a beast you’ll find yourself accepting at some point. If you're happy he’s happy.

- For how to get him flustered I can imagine you can get him flustered by complimenting him. I���m talking about GB level complimenting him. You can say anything like saying how strong he is or anything about his looks and you got this buff ass plumber melting inside from how much you love him.

- I like to think he’s not used to getting compliments due to his freakish nature. He’s so used to people being scared of him that when he has someone who isn’t scared of him let alone loves him he doesn’t know what to do. He surprisingly gets a bit shy, not in an over the top way but it is pretty obvious when the comments affect him that way. But regardless he appreciates your loving nature for him.

- I also like to think he’s really into physical affection. That also makes him a bit flustered. He’s a little reluctant when it comes to pda, that definitely gets him red if you do it in public. Due to this he prefers doing it in private but it still gets him red even if it’s just the two of you. One thing you do to him which he likes is kissing him. Preferably on the cheeks and even more preferably on his nose. He likes it when you do that and definitely puts a smile on his face. After doing what he does, he immediately goes to you, brings you into a hug and just relaxes while you do that to him.

Any of you ever find a new thing you're interested in and you want to know and see more of it, only to find out that thing has been dead or gone for a while and the person/people behind it did something awful or got in some bad controversy?

Cause I have and it's with this:

So I was rewatching some old/classic web animations (mostly Eddsworld, SMB Z, and archived newgrounds animations) and I saw this in one of the playlist that has a bunch of those animations. I only watched it because it was next in the queue but after a couple of minutes I was kinda hooked on it and kept on watching, after a while I decided to watch it till the end, and well...I was really interested.

Sure it was REALLY dated with how it looks and feels, plus the characters and the concept or setting are really standard and could use some improvements, but I thought to myself while searching for more stuff about this series: "Eh, it's part of the charm with these old web animations. Also this was just the pilot episode so surely there's more to come, surely it'll get better from here, surely this'll be a good or at least fine series that'll have some charm and laughs with absolutely nothing bad happening to-" yeah that didn't happen and I wished it did instead of what actually happened.

Yeah so going over every unfortunate thing that happened would take like forever (I think based on what other people have said) so I'll just give you a short summary of what happened: The creator (animated james) canceled the series after two short seasons, he was exposed to have some questionable actions and/or interest which of course led to controversy, and he disappeared from the internet (wherever he is I hope he's doing well). Yup it's another "a classic content creator's downfall" situation...

Okay but you might be thinking to yourself: "What about the series itself and it's two short seasons? Is it any good, is it another case of separating the art from the artist, did it at least leave a bittersweet taste behind?" well....no. Yeah I'm very sorry to any C Students fans out there, I understand if you like this series and think it's really great or an underappreciated gem from the past, I get that and I respect it, but C Students is just really meh to me.

"Well what is C Students?" you might ask, well according to the wiki: C Students is animated web series centered upon a group of teenagers and their life and misadventures in Hartlane High School. Yup, that's all it is from the wiki, and it's actually fitting because that's is ALL this series is about, it's literally just another "teen high school - slice of life & comedy" series kinda like the ones you would find on Nickelodeon or Disney Channel back in the 2000s, except this time it's animated...which isn't really giving it much, like aside from the expressions, some of the movements, and a few things here and there you can have this series in live action instead and it would not be any different.

The characters don't improve or change even slightly from their basic one-note roles/stereotypes in the pilot, similarly the misadventures and situations they go on or find themselves in aren't that interesting or different compared to those from any other series in the genre, and the humor is...the same as those from any other series of this kind, not to say that it's all bad but it's definitely got a lot more misses than it does hits as the later episodes go on, hell even the mature jokes have all aged in varying conditions (both generally and based on the controversy). Speaking of which, that's kind of the overall problem I have with C Students: It clearly looks and feels like a comedic slice of life high school series, but it also tries to be serious and act like it has something important to tell, and it's obvious that it doesn't mix together or handled well. Like for example there's the music video "Creative Types" which is great to watch and listen on it's own, but when put alongside the actual episodes it feels out of place and doesn't feel like it's from the same series at all, which it is even if it's not canon to the main series' timeline. So TLDR: It peaked at the pilot and it slowly and sadly went downhill

However the thing that upsets me more than anything else about this series is...It could be good! It could've been better! I wish it could've been better! I wish it could've entertained us with something different or interesting to it's concept or genre in the same way as The Looney Tunes Show does to suburban sitcom, I wish it could've mixed/handled/balanced the more serious and mature stuff better like Smiling Friends, I wish it could've had some nice charm and laughs to it at least.

Which is why I'm planning on making my own take/version of C Students! Yes I know it's another one to add to my pile of "stuff I've planned out but never actually making", but that's the thing with me unfortunately: I'm good at planning or making ideas and not so much on actually making them come to life, I'm just one person and the idea of making a long running thing on your own without any help whatsoever is terrifying, I'm the one with the blueprints and I need other people to actually construct the thing. But anyways yeah, that was my personal thoughts on C Students (If you don't like or disagree with it then feel free to do so as it is MY opinion and you shouldn't feel obliged to agree with it) I'm PROBABLY gonna make my own take on this series sometime soon, hopefully we'll see how that turns out

EDIT: So I found out that the seasons I watched was a fan-continuation of the series not by the OG creator, but all my points still stand as it would've been more or less the same as canon (according to the creator and people in the comments)

now i want to inspire others to do the same, just like those creators back in the day inspired me! really, i want to inspire others to create whatever they want in this age of the internet. tools and tutorials are more accessible than ever! no matter how cruel people on the larger internet can be, remember that sincerity is not a crime <3 be yourself, and don't bend for anyone. if you're not living for yourself, then who are you living for?

I'm unsure if this is either a "Yeah no duh" opinion or if I'll be mauled by the MD fandom for it since I don't go there a bunch, but I think with Murder Drones I wanted to like it a lot more than I ended up doing

The show is good as is, but the writing– one of the parts of a work that I care the most about– was kinda lackluster for me. The plot is mainly hidden in background details and split-second moments and it makes the narrative confusing and messy, especially when you're watching normally and don't have months between episodes. I didn't even know Nori was even a character until a mutual of mine was obsessed with her. It's vague and hand-wavey in a way I didn't care for.

The whole dialogue and character writing as well felt more insecure than self-aware to me. Like rather than being charming, a lot of the time the writing comes off as "Ermmm,, well THAT just happened" levels of insecure writing. You can say it's ironic but tbh it feels like it does that every five minutes, which then becomes less ironic and more genuine. The show never felt like it could really commit to its world and characters without constantly poking apart at its flaws and making snarky and cheesy comebacks in the name of self-awareness. Like I can't take characters like Uzi seriously and really feel that invested in her when she's constantly talking like that. It gets obnoxious after a certain threshold and I just want the narrative to truly believe in itself for once

A lot of characters felt underutilized because of it. I'm not saying give full-on character arcs to everyone, but characters like J and Doll especially, characters who absolutely should've been way more involved, get sidelined and abandoned. The show replaces actual personality traits and characterization with snarky dialogue and aloof remarks and it makes the characters feel hollow and flat underneath their very basic character archetypes

The show really does feel like those serialized flash fighting animations you'd see on Newgrounds, where it's mainly just two or more character duking it out in a really cool and hype way, but ultimately the story kinds rings flat. You come to watch the fights and nothing more. However, since Murder Drones is pretty damn narrative-focused, the narrative...feels empty. I dunno. It feels way too fast for us to properly get introduced and familiar with this cool world and just tosses us into the deep end without explanation. It makes the experience feel more like a rollercoaster ride, which isn't bad in of itself, but it's a ride where it's constant loops and going at mach 4 and zero breaks, not understanding that you NEED that downtime and filler in order to properly savor it. It just felt...rushed narratively. Like I fully get budget restrictions and having to work with a set episode limit, but still. Slow down. Relish in the moment
