Julian likes books. Julian likes cartoons, nothing to be ashamed about. Julian likes warm drinks, cosy pullovers and shoes that make them look like they belong into a fancy library.

Which they most likely spend a lot of time in.

Knowing this, painting a picture of Julian becomes relatively easy.

Mellow. Bookworm. Maybe secretly a smartass or most likely simply someone who enjoys tranquillity and staying in.

Correct... ish.

Because Julian also really, really likes Selene. And Selene is very rarely anything of the above. Even when they do somehow end up dragging her along somewhere, she takes up space in a way entirely different to the way he slips into it.

He keeps to himself, is polite, greets in nods and pleasant smiles. And Selene? Well, Selene seems capable of blending in in whatever scenario they stumble into. Except that she glows so brightly and is thrumming with so much ferocious life at all times that Jules completely forgets what the hell he was even getting up to.

They grasp at the thoughts before they vanish entirely, hoping it goes unnoticed how one minute eye contact can tip them slightly off his axis, but even with the initial purpose tightly grasped in his hands, Julian is still... aware of Selene.

Like a star knowing just exactly where the moon glows. Closer to Earth. Closer to being alive.

So, it's no surprise to see them lift his head immediately at the sound of her voice. He trails a sentence with his finger for a moment, finds the end of it, rests their finger on the page and looks up at Selene.

And if he looks like he's looking at stained glass, well...

"I- excuse me?" rapid blinking, bemused smile tilting along with his head as he rights it and waits, as though there was anything to add to a question that proves perfectly sufficient in its demand on its own.

Julian clears his throat, acts pensive, forefinger curled in a hook over their lips, small hum.

"I don't see why not. Maybe I'll become a worm too, then it certainly wouldn't even be up for debate," a sheepish shrug, glistening eyes, stealing the light of her glow to reflect it back at her, softened, softened into honesty. "I don't think anything could make me not like you, Selene."

Excerpt: Do you ever wonder where your fate may lie?  Have you ever considered if the karma you put out into the universe really does impact your destiny?  Would you believe that the worst moment of your life, the moment you believe all light has gone out of your world, could be aligning you for something better? Something perfect?     Who in Hades would believe that?  That's what the Greek goddess Themis thought when looking down at the golden threads being aligned.  She, the goddess of justice, truth, and morality certainly doesn’t believe it.  Even as she watches her three daughters do their tasks, she wonders what if? Her daughters have not always had the greatest of reputations and like other Gods have had their run of both bad luck and good, yet they are still sitting on the thrones built thousands of years ago doing their bidding as instructed by their father Zeus, so long ago. That has got to mean something?  Of her daughters, Clotho is the Spinner. She spins the thread of life, the details of everything that matters.  Lachesis is the Apportioner of Lots. She measures out the amount of time a life gets.   Lastly, Atropos who cuts it at a determined time.  She tends to the fates of the many souls that are impacted and need to come to an end.  She is currently deciding on who will be impacted by the two coinciding moments in time the goddesses are monitoring. As the goddess of Justice and Karma, Themis knows it doesn’t always work as intended. Hours, that to the goddesses are just a blink of an eye?  A fraction of time to the gods, infinitesimal in the scheme of things but to these humans, it could and will change everything they’ve ever known. Themis and her Moirai daughters watch as the twisted threads glow and the moments play out on both sides of the world.  Simultaneously the golden threads vibrate. Watching on, as two very different men, both experience the worst moment fate could have thrown at them in their entire existence. These men, to whom Themis knows, have the brightest souls ever seen. Souls that are rich in positive karma.  They truly do not deem these souls  deserving of such tragic horrors.  Pondering these men’s futures, the goddesses watch as the chosen fates come to pass.

Selene Smith is a woman of many wonders. Even someone like Julian, who likes to stay in his bubble and pretend they're not constantly lifting their head from their books to lust after a different flavour of life; even as someone who does not judge, does not wonder beyond what is required, does not want to stick his nose where it might not be wanted, she appears as a woman with enough layers to have his hands cramping in an attempt to lift them all.

Something hidden in the depth of her eyes, and the many scars she'd shown him. Something about the tension of her body, implications and insinuations of a far too pronounced fight or flight instinct scratching at Julian's throat from within, forcing him to try and render his concerned glances as subtle as possible.

Something about the way she handles pain as though she can barely feel it, letting it slide off her like water off a duck's back.

Something about the way she smiles and about how looking into her eyes sometimes feels like watching their bubble come apart like shattering glass, at the realisation something within her is so far away from him, he might never reach it.

Something, something, something, something...

Most wondrous of all, perhaps, is that a woman like her, with worlds on her, lives perhaps even, would let them rope her into standing in his kitchen, helping him try his hand at recipes they've never tried before and might never try again, depending entirely on the success rate here.

So far?

Not looking good.

Especially if his shuffling around and nudging about has led to an injury.

Now, Julian may be a doctor, but he's not one of those practitioners who'll demand you seek out the A&E for the smallest toe-stub. There are plenty of easy and quick solutions to minor injuries that don't require panic or the use of god knows what kind of products - and they'd have a few words to share with big pharma, but - which is why he doesn't flail as hopelessly as he secretly feels the urge to do.

A quick swipe of a rag over his hands, methodical practiced in the way they reach out and pull Amelia's hand into their own. Cold water, maybe some ointment he has for burns, it most likely won't scar, a brush against a hot pan, if handled fast enough, all unspoken and quietly displayed in the back of his mind as they gently tug on Amelia's hand until she's near the faucet.

"Sorry, that-... that was my fault, we should-- some cold water-," he throws in in a sheepish chuckle, pushing abused cutlery and bowls out of the way from a previous failed baking experiment a few hours prior, to make space for her hand when-

Selene Smith is a woman of many wonders.

Most of all, whenever she speaks or does something Julian hadn't expected - which is relatively often - he's left in a state much like the one he stumbles into, when their head snaps up to blink, wide-eyed and sparkled like the surface of the sea under the kiss of a summer sun.

A state of wonder.

Of wonder at the life being thrust into his.

He chuckles again, not self-aware enough to curse the natural paleness of the English for the ease with which blushes actually crawl onto their cheekbones like a pale attempt to recreate the hue found in fiction books.

"Or that, yeah, maybe... that might work, too," he feels like what those flowers must feel like, those that bloom in documentaries, the process sped up to showcase it, bursting the petals out of the bulbs, shaking of morning dew or any rain that had fallen on it, when they lift Amelia's hand to their lips and press a chaste kiss to the scalded skin.

Or like the ocean, when it gently continues to sparkle under that summer sun, for once unperturbed by ships, boats, people, as he lowers the hand.

"Though I have to insist we treat it properly as well."

The lights were shining, flutes of champagne being passed around with all in excellent spirits. In many ways, it seemed a sound promise for a lovely evening, the Devils mingling alongside their Royal companions. But alas, it emerged as Mother Nature herself had other plans for these mixing foes. The storm materializing out of thin air, it's turbulent billows and thunderstrikes reverberating around the ballroom.

Most hardly noticed at first as the great glass windows shuddered, threatening to shatter with each gust of wind. Perhaps if they had recognized sooner, their minds too misty with the liquor that something was amiss, they could've prepared themselves for the most unfavorable conclusion to their evenings.

The central room windows broke first, the glass fragmenting inward as tree branches and other scraps came flying forward. There was no warning as all who were near were thrown back; the bar area was next. It happened fast, the fire that licked at the wooden walls, trapping its guests inside. Upstairs the roof caved in, bringing down the hallways and allowing the pouring rain inside as some were crushed from the weight. All around them the night was ending in terror, another group locked in the bathrooms with no windows to escape, the door blocked by a caved-in wall as the ceiling threatened to give. Finally, you had the entry hall, where the gun-shots were first heard, echoing around as soon as the eclipse hit. Compatriots and opponents lost in the obscurations, some hurt, while others were trying to help those around them. 

Were they all still foe and friend in the darkness, or did the concealment of the shadows allow them the opportunity to look past their given roles?

The event begins at 3 PM EST // 12 PM PST.

Underneath the read more you will find a list of the different groups we’ve created for the end of our event. Each character is placed in one and given a setting and plot. We have also random generalized victims for each group. Those who have been selected are encouraged to pick any injury for their character, the severity is your choice. However, you do not have to injure them if you’d rather not, the choice is yours! If your character was not picked for an injury, please know you’re still welcome to have them get hurt, just please limit the severity of it. If your character’s name is bolded, your character has been selected for the injury.

This part of the event will end Tuesday night at 12 PM EST // 9 AM PST. You are more than welcome to continue on with your other event threads during the blackout, just please tag accordingly so as not to confuse anyone.

Desire and Decorum Family Trees

Okay in my last story I name dumped a bunch of characters that made up Ernest and Clara’s grandchildren. I didn’t really explain where most of them came from and in my recent story I dropped who a couple kids in this universe married. So this is just my compendium list that makes up the different families. I don’t know if I’ll write more with these grandkids or the kids and such but I figured why not share it? I mean I wrote it up and it just might interest someone. 

And hey if someone notices if the years are off you can correct me lol. At the time most would name their kids after family members but since that would get confusing I tried to just pick other names in its place. The parentheses are just the birth years. If you notice the gap between the children that it kind indicates that there might have been more but they were miscarriages or stillbirths from the time these are just the ones that survived to adulthood. Or purposely waited (like Briar and Edmund they waited on purpose, there was no stillborns or miscarriages with them).
