*taps sign* trying to argue that an edgy openworld crafting sim is in any sort of competition with a story-driven turn-based RPG for children predominantly on a completely different system because they both have creature catching mechanics makes about as much sense as saying that World War Z is in competiton with the DCOM Zombies because they both have zombies in them, please shut the fuck up.

so glad Game Freak is getting a moment to fucking BREATHE, and that they seem to be narrowing the scope of their game, if Z-A truly is set entirely in Lumiose City
but already so, so unbelievably tired of seeing people say this is at all because of Palworld, as if they somehow started this entire project in less than two months

Lord knows I've been making my displeasure about Palworld known on Twitter, but I honestly wouldn't even care that much if not for the narratives people create around it. First off is the "Game Freak needs competition, they haven't been challenged since the early 2000's" which is already untrue (What is Yo-Kai Watch? Chopped liver?), but an especially bizarre argument with all the other indie games out there. I'd rather any of those games become Pokemon's main rival over Palworld because there's good things Game Freak could take from that competition to better themselves and the monster-collecting ecosystem as a whole
The second argument is that "This is the Pokemon game Pokemon fans have been waiting for" which makes me want to scream. Pokemon Legend Arceus and Pokemon SV are far from perfect games, but I like the direction the franchise is heading in (If they're ever given enough staff and development time that is). Personally the Pokemon game I've been waiting for would be to take the best parts of those games and combine them into something greater than the sum of its parts... Not ARK: Breath of the Wild starring AK-47 Pikachu, I can't even imagine the cynical ass mind that thinks that's a step in the right direction. If Game Freak drops whatever their working on to make Palworld: No Guns Edition that would be the thing that finally makes me ashamed to call myself a Pokemon fan

So I've fallen DEEP into the Palworld hole after the update on the 23rd. The damn resource management loop is addictive as hell! But it's also got me thinking about what more would come from the series so long as it survives the Nintendo Lawsuit... which any sane judge would look at and immediately throw away.
One thing I would really love is if down the line one of the missions of the game is to actually help develop towns around the islands to make them more habitable for humans. So far in the game there's only like two tiny settlements and dozens of syndicate base camps scattered around. But, there are ruins saying that humans used to live natively on the archipelago in big cities before whatever disaster made the Pals go haywire and forced the place into basically a pocket dimension.
We definitely need more variety in type combos for future Pals. While I appreciate the simplified type-advantage chart, we have like 8 species of Fire/Dark types, but no Dark/Water. And I find it both amusing and a little frustrating that some of the designs imply that they were going to involve evolution/metamorphosis at some point in development, but abandoned it. Think Pengullet and Penking, Petallia and Lyleen. Maybe they were trying to avoid stepping more on Pokemon's toes, but wound up getting tossed a lawsuit anyway.
I do find it fascinating that the game implies that most if not all of the humans living there were Isekai'd to the archipelago, but only a few of them actually have the capacity to tame Pals. What's pulling humans in and handing out those tablet-things?
I'm gonna blame the big-ass tree, but who knows how many more island-updates we're gonna get before we can march up to that Yggdrasil wannabe?

okay so having looked into palworld a bit more and the developer pocketpair, im not super against them anymore? im not the BIGGEST fan of them making "AI: Art Imposter", even if it is just a party game for funsies, but near that i can tell they dont do that for the other games they've made
the game people have been pointing to as pocketpair's abandoned scamware game (craftopia) received updates pretty consistently up through the last year or two since its launch , but if there are others that they have left people high and dry with i dont know about them
the most compelling case of actually stealing a creature's design is between pw's arsox and pokemon sage's (still in development since like 2014 but still being updated i think?) flairees. im a little skeeved out by that for sure. the other one worth looking at is this fakemon someone made, which ended up just being parallel thinking anyway. The other examples (a lot of which are in the 2nd thread i linked) are of pw pals being somewhere on the spectrum between pretty damn similar and "oh that's actually original", leaning moreso (imo) towards the latter.
I'M still going to hold off on paying money for it, both because I like waiting for early access games to cook and because I have other fish to fry

What Palworld Teaches Us About Gaming and Cloud Resilience
Tumblr media
Palworld, a gaming sensation blending open-world survival crafting with monster collection mechanics, has stormed the gaming charts, amassing a player base exceeding a staggering 19 million. Yet, this triumph is not without its challenges, particularly in the realm of server infrastructure. The CEO of Pocket Pair, Takuro Mizobe, recently shed light on the substantial financial commitment required to maintain Palworld’s servers, sparking discussions on the intricate interplay of server costs, overloads, and innovative solutions.
Palworld Server Struggle: A Costly Triumph
Palworld’s ascent to gaming glory has been nothing short of phenomenal, with millions of copies sold on both Steam and Xbox. However, this meteoric rise has brought forth a unique set of challenges, primarily centered around the game’s server infrastructure. Mizobe, in a candid post, disclosed that the server maintenance alone has incurred a whopping 70 million yen, equivalent to approximately $475,000. This revelation underscores the significant financial investment required to sustain the game’s expansive player base.
The humor injected into Mizobe’s acknowledgment of the potential for bankruptcy from server fees hints at the substantial burden these costs impose on Pocket Pair. Despite the game’s enormous success, with over 19 million players, the monthly server fee is rapidly approaching $480,054, translating to an estimated annual expenditure of nearly $6 million. This financial strain raises questions about the sustainability of maintaining such an extensive and active player community.
Navigating to Avoid Palworld Server Overload
The unprecedented success of Palworld, while a cause for celebration, has not been without its share of challenges, notably in managing server overloads. The surge in player numbers during the game’s launch phase resulted in a less-than-ideal initial experience, with bugs and limitations impacting the seamless gathering of in-game companions, known as Pals. Furthermore, the multiplayer aspect of Palworld on Xbox currently supports only 4-player co-op, presenting a bottleneck for players seeking larger collaborative experiences.
Despite these challenges, Pocket Pair has exhibited resilience, remaining committed to delivering an optimal gaming experience for its player community. The dedication to ensuring service continuity is evident in Mizobe’s proclamation to never let the service go down, coupled with substantial investments in server infrastructure to accommodate the game’s growing popularity.
Cloud Solutions from Hyperscalers: Navigating the Showdown
Recognizing the need for additional server capacity to address overload issues and sustain Palworld’s thriving player base, Pocket Pair took an unconventional approach. They encouraged players to explore private servers, a move that sparked a cloud computing showdown between Alibaba Cloud and Tencent Cloud in China.
Released on Steam on January 19 this year, Palworld’s popularity skyrocketed, selling over 8 million copies in under six days. The ensuing server overload challenges prompted Alibaba and Tencent to step in with dedicated server plans tailored for Palworld players in China. Alibaba’s plans cater to groups of eight or 20 players, offering monthly fees ranging from 26.5 yuan to 271.8 yuan. Tencent mirrored these prices, showcasing the competitive landscape in China’s cloud computing market.
This strategic move by Alibaba and Tencent not only addresses the immediate server challenges faced by Palworld but also highlights the intense competition between the two tech giants in the rapidly evolving cloud computing space.
Factors for Players in Choosing a Private Game Server Provider
For players considering the transition to private servers for Palworld, several key factors should guide their decision-making process.
Capacity is a critical consideration, ensuring that the chosen server provider can adequately handle the demands of Palworld’s expansive player base.
Cost-effectiveness is another vital factor, with players weighing the pricing structures of different private server plans.
Reliability takes center stage, as an uninterrupted gaming experience is paramount.
Technical support and additional resources offered by the hosting provider play a crucial role in maintaining a smooth operation.
The geographic reach of the server provider is a practical consideration, ensuring accessibility for players in various regions.
The competition between Alibaba Cloud and Tencent Cloud provides players with diverse options, allowing them to tailor their hosting solutions based on these key factors. As the cloud computing giants engage in a pricing and service feature showdown, players stand to benefit from a variety of choices to enhance their Palworld gaming experience.
🎮 DEPLOY ON CLOUD NOW
Conclusion
Palworld’s journey to gaming stardom has unveiled intricate challenges related to server infrastructure. The financial implications of maintaining a massive player base, coupled with server overload issues, have prompted innovative solutions from cloud computing giants Alibaba and Tencent. As players explore the realm of private servers, thoughtful consideration of key factors will ensure a seamless and enjoyable Palworld gaming experience in the ever-evolving landscape of online gaming.

The angry backlash against palworld is funny. Frankly it's a good thing that a nobody studio can get rich quick off a knockoff or parody and get praised for being more fun or technically more functional than actual pokemon. It doesn't matter if that's true, it's what the Internet is saying either way and maybe that will push gamefreak into giving their next pokemon title more development time.
Or they'll take the opposite lesson and push something out even faster and messier, who knows.

Debunking the Palworld uses AI slander
I have been mostly laughing at the salty Palworld haters raging over Palworlds success. But some of this outrage goes beyond the salty tantrums of corpo bootlickers crying over their favorite billion dollar mega franchise being parodied to out right slander.
So I stumbled onto a "news" article on twitter titled:
Tumblr media
Now it goes without saying but cry baby concern trolls on twitter are not a legitimate source of evidence for anything. But it gets worse.
They decided to cite a post made by the companies ceo talking about the use of ai to generate Pokemon designs as "potentially damning" evidence that they used ai to create designs. However when you look into the details this obviously not the case.
Tumblr media
They cite this post made by the creator as "evidence" that AI could have been used to make Pokemon designs.
Tumblr media
Wow that looks pretty damning doesn't it? Except there is just one problem. The AI Pokemon designs were made by a BuzzFeed engineer and he was only commenting on how similar they looked to Pokemon designs. None of these fakemon designs was made by anyone using AI at Pocketpair.
Tumblr media
Here's a link to the post with all of the fakemon designs made by Buzzfeed.
Tumblr media
This is sinking to a all new low it's one thing to hate a game. It's another to spread slander against game developers because you don't like a video game. This is pathetic. Palworld haters spreading lies like this only makes me want to play Palworld more. I hope Palworld is released on every console so I can buy two copies for each.

#Uhhh - Salazzle are a female-only species of Pokemon that utlize a powerful pheromone to attract and control male Salandits; competitions between Salazzle is decided by which one has amassed the largest reverse harem of underlings. If a Salazzle begins to grow, lighten in color, and develops an unusually provocative behavior, something is clearly wrong because it may in the process of turning into a Basilust, and later a Lovander. Once a Salazzle has begun this transition, is it still even a Pokemon? Is it a Pal? The lines are a bit blurred here.
