Reminder that even if your asexuality or aromantism could have a "different source", if these terms help you feel safe and advercate you needs you can still use them!
Maybe you are a "late bloomer" or "too young to know" but maybe the identity means you can explain yourself better, you can find others who feel the same, you can take things at your own pace. That's OK.
Maybe you're on medication, maybe you have some sort of neurodivergence that is affecting things. If these terms help explain your emotions or how you are "lacking" a certain thing, that's OK.
Maybe you're trans and you're not sure how your dysphoria effects it. Identities and feelings are confusing. That's OK.
Cause for every person who realises the terms no longer fit, there's someone who wishes they used the terms earlier. If you have shared experience, if the terms help you define yourself and protect yourself or hell just give a small sense of belonging that's OK.
You're welcome here

hi! hoping y'all can help identify a birb has built a nest in my (unused) ashtray. western north carolina region of the united states. has been here approx 4-6 weeks. nesting materials seem to be mostly moss & dried leaves/grass with a bit of untreated alpaca wool provided by yours truly. the bird is mostly brown with a tan tummy & around the size of a child's palm.
-- not sure if this is a helpful note or not but it is very protective of its home. doves & pigeons frequently nest near/on the house as well as hummingbirds that i feed during the summer and none of them are as aggressive as this lil lady who divebombs anyone within 10 feet.

Location: western north carolina region of the united states
Date: -
Additional Information:
just wanted to clarify re my submission for identification that i haven't closely approached the nest & have instructed the other humans on the property to stay away from it as well. Picture of nest was taken from several yards away w/ zoom & picture of the bird going into the nest was taken through the window. Thanks for promoting ethical birding!
As a reminder, ID submitted birds are not quiz submitted birds. WTB does not have the answer for these and relies on the help of the community.
What bird do you think this is?

Okay first off, I need you to know that I made a coffee and then got my favorite blanket and sat down with this post like it was a novel 😆
That double refraction is SO striking. I wish I had had a better microscope when I was working with my tiny zircons! Hmm I do have a ‘zircon’ ring and a loupe…
It’s so interesting that the metamict zircons have different absorption spectra. (Also metamict zircons are not great for helium dating - the helium diffusion gets wonky since the structure breaks down in a way that is not uniform)
The SKULL!!!! I was sitting here, thinking, “What? How hot could it be? OH HOLY SHIT.” That is so hot. 1500C is a HOT magma. I think the intro book I taught from gave numbers like ~1200C for mafic magma, ~800C for felsic. Those are grossly oversimplified I know, I know, but still. 2600 degrees Celsius. Wow. That’s twice as hot as magma.
Ohhhh interesting that it’s monoclinic at first/changes as it cools! (Hehehe like spodumene 😆 sorry I have a one track mind) Does the yttrium get incorporated into the structure too? Or I guess at least some must, to give it that characteristic absorption line.
Also moissanite mention!!!! I know that (terrestrially) it can be found in kimberlites but it’s usually so so so small.
Ahh!! Thank you for this post, it was an absolute delight to read and I learned so much!!!! (Also it was incredibly well organized and easy to understand!)

It looks like a memory… it's almost beaconing, if it weren't for the strangeness of how this place existed in the first place.

Speaking of coins, I think it's neat that we have a trinity of Apollos with uncommon characteristics:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Apollo Karneios with ram horns and ram ears, Apollo Soranus with a star diadem and a pick-axe and Apollo Vejovis with winged head, a trident and a dagger. (The last two are the results of his syncretism with Roman deities)
What's more fun about the coins of Apollo-Vejovis is that some of them put a thunderbolt under his bust or straight up show him holding it:

And I can't help but think of this being equivalent to a girl wearing her mom's makeup for the photo day

Region: Eastern Urals, a couple kilometers away from town.
Seen: 17.05, 18:30 (camera clock shows wrong time)
Sorry couldn't take a better picture. While I was adjusting another camera, it flew away.
I saw a strange scarlet bird. All red except the facial area. It flew away with another bird, possibly female, it was like river sand beige type of color.

Out of all birds I could name a cardinal. But the problem is, I'm in Asia, it shouldn't be here?
Are there similar birds?
