I need people to understand that liking a ship doesn't always mean that there is agreement with how it was played out. IMO Arcane is one of those shows that has infinite amounts of potential but was sadly squandered and the writers never even realized a fraction of that with the way they handled resolving the story and characters. For instance, CaitVi as it ended in S2 left things between them with a massive, unhealthy power imbalance (Vi having literally nothing and no one else except Ekko with whom for some reason the writers never mention their relationship again?? Meanwhile Caitlyn still has all her wealth and her father at least), and Vi is in a vulnerable state where she never seeks any sort of apology for Caitlyn's actions despite her crimes against both her and Zaun.
That said, it's abundantly clear that the writers' intentions were to end with showing CaitVi as a relationship between two people who have overcome adversity and healed from trauma together (despite their god-awful failed attempts at demonstrating that by just... never addressing Vi's trauma with Enforcers or Caitlyn's police brutality again so that everything "conveniently" ends up okay), which is what a lot of people choose to interpret the relationship as, and I think that's okay because frankly it's not their fault that the writing became so messed up that CaitVi actually turned from an incredibly popular ship into a controversial one through tone-deaf character arc "development" and how there was absolutely no conviction whatsoever behind the politics that Arcane loves to show off for aesthetics but never actually follow through on with ANY of the characters you know... actively engaging in revolution or political change (and if they DO *cough cough Ekko* *cough cough MEL* then they're whisked away to isekai timeout while the rest of the characters get oh-so-cleverly manipulated by the Big Bad Ambessa, an outside threat there to conveniently unify Zaun and Piltover together without any sort of internal revolution or ANY of the issues with how Piltover treated Zaun addressed at all!!!).
Anyways, I think CaitVi as it stands still had the potential to be one of the best sapphic ships in media, it's just sad that it was never fully realized due to shitty writing.
But that's what fanfiction and headcanons are for, amirite?

So funny Viktor chooses to present himself to Jayce as a white-golden robot (considering it is shown he could possess one of his followers) despite his representative colors being purple and blue (during s2 arc 1 and arc 2 and as the Herald Machine). But for the very specific purpose of convincing Jayce to join him, he's represented in the colors associated with Mel. Literally CATWALKING into the room, which is an action associated with Mel too

ngl I'm disappointed that Jinx and Vi's interaction in the mines didn't include even just a brief confirmation from Jinx that Silco was like a father to her and wasn't abusing her. That conversation didn't happen at the dinner scene, Vi was still under the impression there that Silco had been cruel to her. I think it would have been on theme for the episode. Jinx smells his old jacket, can she have just one line to say "hey, he never hurt me, he actually cared about me, and I cared about him too." Doesn't have to be a whole conversation, just let her say it out loud.

Can we talk about how Vi & Jinx went from fighting like true enemies: truly enraged, hurting each other, drawing blood without holding back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
To fighting like fed up sisters: a surprise bitch slap, hair pulling, Vi trying to make Jinx surrender but not genuinely hurting her.

How it feels to not like timebomb after s2
Tumblr media
#I'M NOT A HATER I SWEAR I ACTUALLY REALLY LIKE IT ON PAPER#i do however think that it came literally out of nowhere and was hella rushed and kinda ridiculous#like. if the argument is that original ekko fell in love with jinx it doesn't make sense because they were enemies for most of their lives#if the argument is that current ekko fell in love with au powder and now projects these feelings on jinx it's kinda uh. messed up#because she's a whole different person. entirely. it doesn't matter if both these version started out as a 9-year old powder. they had#extremely different lives and experiences and thinking that “there's still this kind of powder in jinx deep down” is straight-up awful#OR even if he didn't project his feelings for powder on jinx why would he love her in the current universe? last time they met she blew them#up and now she wants to commit suicide. there's literally no reason for him to have any kind of feelings except the slight friendly#affection that's left from all those years ago. and yet the show and most importantly the fandom treats them like a couple??? i don't get it#also it's kinda insane that s2 turned jinx and ekko into flat shipping material#again. obviously i have nothing against the shippers and do not condemn it in any way. i'm just expressing my thoughts on the matter#also what pisses me off the most. is how in ep9 jinx in fully painted with ekko's symbols here and there. has the bandage (?) on her chest#like vi. has a hood that looks like a drawing that isha made. and yet there's no fishbones or any reference to silco at all#i mean. i get it s2 hates him but i can't help it#they gave her all these relationships and pretended that they're significant to her and yet they didn't have any proper development#to really earn it#arcane critical#arcane season 2#anti timebomb#jinx arcane#ekko arcane

I love Timebomb, don’t get me wrong, and I think that they’re the best written dynamic, especially relating to Jinx, but it rubs me the wrong way how the narrative puts the entire deterioration of their relationship on Ekko. While I think Ekko blaming himself for giving up on Jinx makes sense for his character, the writers seem to agree with him even though it’s not true. It’s the same way I feel about how Jinx views herself as the problem, that no one could be happy with her and that everyone she loves is doomed to suffer. It makes sense for her to feel that way but the writers agreeing with her is the problem.
I’ve talked about Ekko’s feelings about Jinx in this post, but the gist of it is that Ekko (and the firelights) were honestly the only ones who justifiably viewed Jinx as a monster. She was his childhood best friend who was trying to kill and frame him and his people for no reason other than Silco telling her to. That’s what Ekko had to live with for almost a decade of his life after losing every one else in his life. Of course he’d given up on her: it was the only way to protect himself both physically and emotionally.
The issue with cutting all the timebomb scenes in the finale other than the one where he saves her is that it paints the picture that Ekko simply gave up on Jinx without trying in the past, when that isn’t true. He did try, on many occasions, despite her insistence on shooting him or blowing him up. Even when he’d given up trying to get her to come with him, he didn’t want to fight or kill her.
And when he got blasted into a whole other dimension, it would’ve been so easy to stay with a Powder that hadn’t tried to off him multiple times, but instead, he went back, because he realized his Jinx wasn’t much different from AU Powder. Even though it must've been so painful for him to admit. He’s the only one that really deserved an apology from her and while I don’t doubt she gave one to him, I wish we could’ve seen it.
I mean, she rolls up to the final battle with the Firelights in her lair, the Firelight symbol painted on her body, a new fit, looking healthy, so I’m pretty sure they’re on good terms and the reason she got to that place was because of Ekko and the Firelights giving her the support she needed, but, man, we really deserved to see that resolution.

I see Arcane's marketing is thrusting a lot of blue on Jinx's persona, which is fine, but also a misdirection! I argue that the use of blue on Jinx represents THE IDEA that others have of Jinx rather than representing who Jinx really is. Jinx's true color, the one she paints over those closest to her, the one that represents her is PINK. Jinx is pink!
When we see Jinx in pieces either in or out of show where blue is the predominant color in the palette it's signaling to us the audience that this the Jinx that is perceived by the world around her, which includes Piltover AND Zaun. In this essay I will---
