you wanted to be a good friend, because you loved your friends, but the truth was that everyone else somehow had a pamphlet on being normal that you never received. most of the time you learn by trial-and-error. you are terrified of the next big mistake you make, because it seems like the rules are completely arbitrary.

you've learned to keep the prickly parts of your personality in a stormcloud under your bed - as if they're a second version of you; one that will make your friends hate you. it feels feral, burning, ugly.

instead, you have assembled habits based on the statistical likelihood of pleasing others. you're a good listener, which is to say - if you do speak up, you might end up saying the wrong thing and scaring off someone, but people tend to like someone-who-listens. or you've got no true desires or goals, because people like it when you're passive, mutable. you're "not easy to fluster" which is to say - your emotions are fundamentally uninteresting to others around you; so you've learned to control them to a degree that you can no longer really feel them happening.

you have long suspected something is wrong with you, but most of the time, googling doesn't help. you are so-used to helping-yourself, alone and with no handbook. the reek of your real self feels more like a horrible joke - you wake up, and, despite all your preparations, suddenly the whole house is full of smoke. the real you is someone waiting to ruin your other-life, the one where you're normal and happy. the real-self is unpredictable, angry.

your real self snarls when people infantilize the whole situation. because if you were really suffering, everyone seems to think you'd be completely unable to cope. but you already learned the rules, so you do know how to cope, and you have fucking been coping. it's not black-and-white. it's not that you are healed during the other times - it's just that you're able to fucking try. and honestly, whenever you show symptoms, it's a really fucking bad sign.

because the symptoms you have are ugly and unmanageable for others. your symptoms aren't waifish white girl things. they're annoying and complicated. they will be the subject of so many pretentious instagram reels. if they cared about you, they'd just show up on time. you care, a lot, so deeply it burns you. you like to picture a world where the comments read if they loved you, they'd never need glasses to see. but since that's a rule you've seen repeated - "one must never be late or you are a bad friend" - you constantly worry about being late and leave agonizingly early. there are no words for how you feel when you're still late; no matter how hard you were trying.

so you have to make up for it. you have to make up for that little horrible real you that you keep locked in a cabinet. you are bad at answering emails so every project you make has to be perfect. you are weird and sensitive so you have to learn to be funny and interesting. you are an inconvenience to others, so you become as smooth as possible, buffing out all the rough parts.

all this. all this. so people can pass their hands over you and just tell you just the once -how good you are. you're a good friend. you're loveable.

i really really love procreate dreams and what its capable of but i gotta say that so far i have some major gripes with the UI </3

#shush slinky #i want to love this app so bad!!!!!! but there are no pen pressure settings #that i can find because there... is no settings button #the flipbook is huge and you cannot scale it #pen resolution scales to match the zoom on the window?? which is. bizzare.#you cannot move around brushes at all. im fine with not being able to make or edit them i guess bc you can easy import from the other app #even tho so many of the default ones have unbearable streamline on and you cant change it #there are no undo and redo buttons even though there is... clearly space for some #theres even no action button like the other app #the timeline view makes the actual image super small on my device model because its older and clearly smaller than was designed for #and you cant scale that either it takes up half the screen whether u like it or not #theres NO LASSO TOOL... the fill tolerance is extreme and you cannot change it to my knowledge...#the verdict so far is that it is a very good editing tool at the expense of frame-by-frame; which procreate itself is better for #and its pretty unintuitive to me which i was suprised by because of how used to procreate i am

i don't know.

but what i do know is dan has a great support system, and has methods of taking care of his mental health, and i don't think he would film/edit/tweet a video to his vulnerable fans if he was in immediate danger.

that said, something is clearly wrong and i hope that he's alright. whether something happened or he's having a tough night, it seems like he just needs that little bit of extra hope rn and im glad we're able to help with that even a little. he knows we all care about him very much, and these happy videos are probs much appreciated.

i also think its important for us as fans to take care of ourselves too, talk to your support system, do/watch/read/etc. things that make you happy and hopeful, and if you need to talk to someone, here's a list of crisis lines around the world. i love you all and dan and phil very much, and i promise everything is gonna be alright 💛

i think i've managed to wrap my head around how the mason system functions which is an accomplishment in and of itself

#it's a virtual reality video game programmed with both the actual conversations phoenix had with each of the people he meets with #+ the conversations he either had when he discovered the information they'd been hiding (later on‚ condensed for the sake of the game)#or conversations that were slightly edited to confirm or deny whether evidence was real or fake #(because he wouldn't just be able to make up conversations and stick them in the game. that would defeat the purpose of the mason system #which is to show the truth)#it's like some strange combination of a visual novel and a puzzle game. you slowly gain the evidence and you have to find out which #evidence goes where. and by doing that you build the blocks that lead to the truth and draw your own conclusions from there #i feel like that was supposed to be the obvious conclusion that players of aa4 were supposed to come to #but dear god is it easy to overcomplicate it.#and you have to remember that phoenix actually switched the mason system trial over from some random case to the misham trial last minute #because drew just so happened to die the night before #so the fact that he probably had to add in all of his conversations and shit in a rush when he JUST FOUND OUT THAT DREW HAD DIED #is actually kind of funny. he's just running around with his beanie on fire scrambling to get everything together

I was falling asleep because it's 4:30 in the morning but then a friend that I have a mild crush on texted me and asked what horror movies corresponds to which areas at camp, and clearly Climbing Wall is Vertigo, Aquatics is Jaws and Ecology-Conservation is The Birds, (these were her assignments) but she wanted to know whether Blair Witch fit Scoutcraft (basic scouting skills) or Handicraft (arts and crafts) more, and I said Handicraft because of the figurine things, then she asked what Scoutcraft would be, and full disclosure, I like horror movies but I don't watch a lot of them. I'm picky. Because I don't like gore or zombies and I have anxiety so it's difficult. Okay. So I literally Googled "outdoor horror movies" and tried to find one that I recognized, and thankfully Midsommar was on that list and I've seen and enjoyed Midsommar, so that's what I said. The only other horror movies I can remember seeing are Cabin in the Woods (masterpiece but doesn't fit) and one I can't remember the name of but it's about a video game and has Frankie Muniz and the guy that played Mary Lightly in Psych. And tbh, most of my horror movies knowledge comes from parody episodes of Psych. Especially the Hitchcock episode. I only knew Vertigo because of Psych. This post was a whole lot of inconsequential nonsense, but I get a pass because it's 4:30am and I'm talking to a cool girl.

how do u make ur pixel art so high res ?

I'm still learning myself, but this is my process! I even forget to change the settings to "hard edges" sometimes and it still comes out fine. I usually bump the scale up by 10, but that really depends on your canvas size. Mine are around 480 x 270 pixels usually and then x 10 for resolution. I imagine you can use this with any program that allows you to edit the resolution.
