He has a traumatic background he came to terms with through the outdoors. Actually this is probably one of the least overall upsetting ones? obsessed with the idea of What Will People Think that permeates actions in Barry. even though it’s a terrible idea, Barry goes on fun runs to support the family of the guy he murdered and posts evidence of it online because he wants to be seen as a good guy. Sally’s mother being more concerned about what the women from her church might say about Joplin than about the real abuse her daughter endured, because they don’t care about that. Cousineau making an awkward public apology to Annie and then later trying to capitalise on Barry’s arrest so he can be a big hero. The big song and dance Cristobal and Hank have to do to hide their relationship and trick people into thinking they’re enemies. Fuches constantly bragging about being The Raven because he wants to be the coolest guy in the prison yard. What people think doesn’t matter. What people think means everything.

Mikey & South's Parallels

- They both had ill mother who couldn't raise/take care of them

-Absent father. We don't know where South's is and Mikey's dad is dead

- bc of that, raised by someone else

- Mikey has a Japanese mother and a not-completely Japanese dad | Not sure about South's parents but his mother has light hair so it is likely that she's Brazilian, at least partially and his father is Japanese (+ South's family name is Japanese so it's likely it is his father's)

-> (South was born in Japan it seems ("Minami was a foreign child", chapter 227), so perhaps he did know Japanese as a child (perhaps lost it with time tho) and we can only speculate about how and why he came to Brazil with his mom and why they ended up in a favela)

- Mikey is called that: Mikey. And Manjiro by only very few people - South is called South, and Minami by no one in canon -> both being English name

- After losing both of their parents (& Dino in South's case), they go live with their grandparent(s)

- can bond over and understand each other's dark impulse in a way nobody else can

- childish (they deserve to be)

- Mikey kept his old blanket from his childhood - South has dinosaur plushies (metaphorically having Dino keep an eye on him) (I promise they're dinosaurs. They must be. That's how I see them.)

- Both lost paternal figure at 12 y/o bc of the dark impulses (Dino died by South's own hands, I agree that the presence of the dark impulse here is debatable - Shinchiro died bc of the curse influencing Kazutora)

- Mikey was supposed to inherit BD - South took over Dino's gang

- Mikey got Shinichiro's bike & bedroom after his death - South took Dino's jewelry and got a tattoo similar to Dino's

- HYPNOTIC EYES. Mikey's abyssal eyes suck your soul in and South's are just... Well first, too many with his tattoos, and second they look like he has eyes inside of his eyes (and circles inside circles inside circles inside circles... are the most basic form of hypnotic image)

- Have their hair tied up in past-present time/the first time we meet them

- Mikey is the second smallest man character in TR (so close to first place!) - South is the tallest man character in TR (and just the tallest period)

- Their image color (red & green) are complementary colors

Dino and Shinichiro:

- The one taking on the responsibility to take care of the ill mother (the hospital calls Shinichiro and not grandpa Sano when Mama Sano's condition got worse)

- Showed the delinquent way to them (different way tho: Mikey has witnessed the funny & entertaining, playful and 'relaxed' side of it - South had the right to experience violence from the start)

+ Shinichiro showed it to Mikey because he had a great experience with it and wanted his baby brother to be as happy as he was - We can only speculate why Dino wanted South by his side

- Shinichiro is Mikey's brother but we don't know why Dino started to take care of South and his mom

- Death was karmic: literally for Shin since he died by the curse he himself created the same way he killed to get time leaper powers, and for Dino it's more bc he asked for it with how he raised South

- Shinichiro is the only one (from what we know) who keeps calling Mikey Manjiro no matter the years vs Dino was the one to change Minami's name to South

- Ruined Mikey's life by traumatizing him with the curse and its consequences (of course, didn't mean to) - Ruined South's life by traumatizing him with.. making him kill people and all

- Both wear a chain around their neck

If there’s any South Park kid that takes home the crown for being the most unproblematic it has to be Jimmy honestly. I know I haven’t talked much about Jimmy but srsly like he’s such a good kid, the only time when Jimmy rlly did anything bad or malicious was when he was using steroids and shit to cheat in the special olympics, but Jimmy is really nice and treats everyone around him with respect and never gets involved in drama and so all the kids like him, like both the boys and Craig’s gang get along well with Jimmy. Honestly all Jimmy really cares about is just doing his stand up comedy and making people laugh which is a positive thing like he knows how to just focus on his passions and even though he’s crippled he doesn’t let that get in the way or make him bitter or anything, even though Nathan & Mimsy are assholes to him and try to tear him down, Jimmy never really fights back at them he just does his own thing. And I know what you’re thinking like yes, Butters is also really unproblematic and nice to everyone (and this is probably why Butters & Jimmy hang out a lot) but Butters is still kind of flawed because his issue is that he’s can be too nice and giving & naive and a bit of a pushover, so that’s why Butters gets taken advantage of a lot and it’s definitely turned Butters more bitter in later seasons. Jimmy is still pretty smart and passionate about a lot of things and he can still see through people’s bullshit. Jimmy isn’t afraid to like stand up for himself occasionally if he needs to like when Cartman tried to go to Jimmy’s house in the episode “Tsst” and he acted like he was Jimmy’s best friend and everything just so Jimmy would let him stay there, Jimmy was like “what’s my last name” FJSJSJ. And there was also that time when Jimmy was running the school paper and he stood up to PC Principal when he was trying to change it and put in ads or whatever, and that’s bc Jimmy just has a lot of integrity and stays true to his word and his beliefs, unlike the boys who act all fake all the time just to get people to like them so they’ll fit in. Jimmy is just naturally confident in himself so everyone likes him because of that. Jimmy can struggle though with being too nice too just like Butters like we saw in “Fishsticks” when he let Cartman walk all over him and take credit for the fishsticks joke but honestly I don’t rlly blame him, Jimmy just didn’t wanna stir the pot and cause a bunch of drama, even though Kyle kept telling Jimmy he needed to stand up to Cartman RRJFJDJE. But then Craig made a really good point and was like “at least he’s giving you half” or some shit like that. Craig was pretty much saying the exact opposite of what Kyle was trying to say and was being a good and sensible friend to Jimmy and trying to point out to him that he’s not gonna win this against Cartman (because Craig actually has a brain and knows it’s impossible to reason with Cartman unlike fucking Kyle) and he should be lucky and grateful that Cartman’s at least giving him half of the credit and the money for the joke.
