I don’t know who I am...

I am saddened because I have no idea who I am... is saddened even a word? I don’t know but it is tonight. 

I have spent literally ALL of my life so far in my 20 years of living being the person I felt that I had to be in order for me to get through in life. The educated people on this subject call something like this the “Imposter Syndrome.” I feel like my life isn’t my life, I am not living for me. Who am I living for? I don’t know... maybe that’s why I have always had a careless relationship with death and I would feel like nothing I did matter because in the end my life never felt like it was mine. However, before this gets TOO DARK! if you know what I’m saying... I am trying to become a more “positive” person for lack of better words and now I want to live for me but I don’t know where to begin or what to do. Back to what I was saying, I don’t know who I am. I don’t even know if I love myself. Do other people feel the same way? I always feel like I am that .1%  exception to everything like I am an unrelatable outcast in society. It’s rough but hopefully, I can make this year about finding out who I am and what I want. Am I a 20-year-old having a mid-life identity crisis? Yes lol.

Cultural Appropriation

I never really understood or cared much about the fight against cultural appropriation for Black people and I guess I am beginning to understand the situation. Thanks to people like Bhad Barbie or whoever she is, there has been a lot of media attention surrounding her current hairstyle of Box Braids saying that she’s being racist and whatnot. So I guess that the fact that she’s not Black and could be White... I am not too sure what she is because I don’t know much about who she is... but the problem is that she’s taking something native to Black people’s culture and making it her own. Basically, this is what people do in life, they steal other people’s cultural traditions and whatever else that can get their hands on. It’s not the first time it has happened but it’s hard for me to want to feel bad about the situation because I know Black men and women have been oppressed for years over things that we can’t change like the way our hair grows or our natural features. But then a White person or Latino person or Asian person will come along and say, “hey that’s dope, let me try that” then BOOM! They’re all the media is talking about and Black people are left in the back as if this wasn’t something they were already doing. This takes away everything from the Black community... 

okay... now I’m upset... I see the problem ._.

For me, I have to talk things through, even if it is with myself to understand simple concepts and complex ones. I have to put them in the air.

Back to the discussion... this is frustrating and outrageous for Black people. Where is our accreditation and recognition? Yes, other people have braiding styles of their own but I guess this one is ours and it was developed for us. Would we like to share it, I don't know because I feel like we don’t own the hairstyle. Like I get the madness surrounding cultural appropriation but I feel like if Black people weren’t shamed in the first place for doing these things then all would be well and other people could do them too without a problem. Does that make sense? I am just trying to better understand people.

Black TV Producer: Shonda Rhimes

What if Viola Davis and Kerry Washington switched places in How to Get Away with Murder (HTGAWM) and in Scandal? The show Scandal didn’t do as great as HTGAWM... I am curious why? I feel like the targeted audience could have played a role because as I began watching these two shows - I’m deeper into Scandal - all I could think was who are the targeted audiences for these shows? Of course, a lighter black woman, Olivia Pope would be cast as the main lead because the show just wouldn’t be fine with a woman with more melanin. I am not saying it’s bad but I do think there would have been a different outcome of the show. Black and White people can look at Olivia and be like damn she’s hot playing the role of a presidential mistress... BUT! I think the show would have lost viewers had a woman like Viola Davis... maybe even Gabriella Union (only bc she looks young and fine) played the role it would have been a different story. It’s important to know your audience is all I'm saying, and it’s just intriguing to me to consider these things. Next, I wanted to bring up the Jezebel role Kerry Washington is playing... it’s making me feel some type of way (upset). Because in Black TV/Film we see a lot of stereotypes of women. Jezebel being the top, followed by the Angry Black Woman and the Strong Black Woman Persona, I guess I could save those for another day to discuss.

Redundantly Religious.

There are dozens of religions on this planet and millions upon millions who follow each of those religions. But every religion that follows a supreme creator AKA "God" believes that he/she is all knowing. Beginnings and ends. But if there is really only one religion we are all supposed to follow then that would mean God is condemning millions of us into Hell before we even had the chance to factually know the right path. Because he/she knows that millions of us will never convert from one religion to the other. We were placed here to live righteous lives and religion is the most powerful structure humans have that helps us keep sanity. You cannot be punished for unknowingly following the wrong lifestyle if your life was already predetermined to play out that way.
