“Sketch #1”

Materials:

Borosilicate Rod

Copper Wire

I wanted to create a wearable piece that would use the properties of glass to distort my face. In my eyes this piece is more of a sketch than a finished artwork. I want to revisit this piece using soft glass. I love working with Boro glass, but it does not enjoy having anything included within it, copper included. It did work, but it was incredibly fragile.

Neo's Thoughts

(Crimneo Skit)

(Slight follow-up to “Honest Feelings”)

Neo was scrolling through pictures she had on her phone, some of which involved Ragna.  After hearing how passionate Ragna was towards her, she couldn't help but feel giddy whenever she saw a picture of him.

Torchwick:  (notices her behavior)  Hey Neo.  I've been meaning to ask you something.

Neo looked up at him.

Torchwick:  Do you… like Ragna?

Neo tilted her head at the question.

Torchwick:  You've been looking pretty happy lately and I get the feeling it's got to do with him.  Unless I'm wrong of course.

Neo tried to think of an answer, though the more she thought about it, the more questions began to pile up.

Torchwick:  ‘She's really taking her time, it's been a while since I've seen her this unsure of herself.'

Neo then typed something into her scroll and showed it to Roman.

“I'll get back to you on that, I need more time to think.”

Torchwick:  (Casually shrugs) Alright.  Whatever works.  ‘Guess I'll just have to ask her about it later, I mean how long can it take.’

~1 Week Later~

Torchwick was sitting by a table drinking coffee and checking on the news, until Neo showed up and handed him a paper.

Torchwick (jokingly):  What's this?  A napkin?

Neo gave a stern look.

Torchwick:  Just kidding.  (Looks at paper)  Wait… is this your response to that question I asked?  That was a week ago.  What took so long?

Neo pulled out a sign that read:

“I said I needed time, didn't I?”

Torchwick:  Well, whatever works.  (Looks back at paper)  Did you write an essay?  This thing's huge.

Neo tapped on the beginning of the page.

Torchwick:  Alright alright, I'll read it.

“When I first met Ragna, I didn't think much of him at first.  He seemed pretty grumpy for someone like me.  During that event with Susanoo, I was planning on just ditching him and leaving him to deal with the problem.  But the moment he saw how much I infuriated the so-called “god”, his expression changed.  His charismatic nature came out, and next thing I knew he was asking me out, I didn't know what to say.”

Roman shifted a glance towards Neo, in which she gave him a lecturing look causing Roman to look back at the page.

“Course he says that it could all just be pretend if I wanted it, but at that moment I was actually considering going out with him for real, though I stuck with just letting it be pretend.  Looking back on it now, he never said that he wanted to pretend meaning he was also considering going out with me for real too.  Point is, I just couldn't say no, so I accepted and we've just been playing an act since.  I thought we would stay like that for however we felt like going, but then his brother would say that Ragna's feeling were genuine and that he did indeed loved me, and he would say that in front of Ragna, no less."

Torchwick:  (giggles)  That must've been embarrassing.

Neo giggled over the truth in that.

“We talked about it for a bit, before deciding to go out for real.  Why you might be thinking?  Cuase I felt like giving him a chance.  You don't find someone as passionate as him very often, especially if they're a down in the dump kind of person like Ragna.”

Torchwick:  Is this the part where you explain your current feelings?

Neo motioned back at the page.

Torchwick:  Right right.  Just didn't think you would make this so entertaining.  (Looks back at the page)

“I've grown to enjoy hanging out with Ragna.  Sure his gloominess shows up at times, but that adds to his charm, it makes his adorable side all the more special.  He's super fun to tease, and when he gets flustered he makes the most adorable expression I've ever seen.  How can someone be so grumpy, but also look so cute, I can never find out why, and when he's not grumpy, he has one of the most coolest, most confident personality I've ever seen!"

Torchwork:  I didn't know you were this fangirly.

Neo flicked Roman on the head, while feeling slightly embarrassed.

“He's also so caring, but not to the point where he's some “self-righteous hero”, but enough to appreciate people for what they are.  While he's not into the crime gig, he doesn't tell me to stop.  He lets it slide, he lets me do what I feel like. He appreciates me for who I am. He cares about me... for me."

Torchwick:  ‘Geez, to go out of her way to write all this, she must've fell for him hard.’  (Keeps reading)  ‘Oh, what have we here?’

“Although, there is one big issue I noticed about him…”

Torchwick:  ‘Ah, so there's something she's not into.  Well, I suppose nobody's perfect.’

“He can be too caring, that caring side acts as a detriment in some moments.  Even when he doesn't show it, he cares about those that try to kill him and constantly harass him.  He doesn't do much about it and just puts up with it, nor does he hold it against them.  There are are some people he doesn't care for, but those guys are heartless, there is no reason to care for them. Either way, he's become a punching bag to the people in his world and while he doesn't let it keep him down, it's a sorry sight to see."

Torchwick:  ‘That would explain how he got so tough.’

“Seeing him like this, it gives me this urge to take care of him.  To look after him.  To love him.  Someone's gotta do it, he deserves it, and I wouldn't mind that someone being me. End!"

Torchwick:  Wow… (Turns to her)  He really got your attention, didn't he?

Neo nodded.

Torchwick:  Still… as entertaining as it was and as much as I appreciate the detailed explanation, why couldn't you just say that you fell in love with him and leave it that.

Neo pulled out a sign that read:

“Cause I didn't fall in love with him.”

Torchwick:  …What?

*Flips Sign*

“Not yet anyways.”

Torchwick:  I… don't get it.  What was this paper for then?

Neo flipped the paper over and manifested words on it.

“This whole paper was meant for me to organize my thoughts on how I felt towards Ragna.  It took quite a long time and tons of rewrites to finish it, but by the time I was done I realized just how much of a catch I reeled in.  That charm of his is too good that it's only a matter of time before I'm reeled in.”

Torchwick:  Okay, I get that, but how come you aren't reeled in by now?

Neo conjured up some more words on the page.

“There's one more thing that needs to be settled.  I need to know why he loves me.  He doesn't know himself, meaning I can't fall for him just yet.  It's the only way I can know for sure on just how truly passionate he is towards me.”

Torchwick:  Wow... your taking this more seriously than I thought.  And here I thought we were just using him for our own merit.

Neo rolled her eyes over that comment.

Torchwick:  Still, it's nice to see your at least happy with this.  Make sure you don't let him out of your sight y'hear.

Neo nodded, before pulling out a sign.

“Course not, he's my catch and I'm not letting anyone take him from me.”

For Magic's Servant, this is hard.

If money were no object, I'd love to do a limited run of the artifact that Morgana so desperately wants. Which I suppose I could actually try to make a prototype of myself, but my torchwork (glass) skills are a bit rusty and I've never worked off mandrel before so it would take a lot of practice before I was happy with it. It would be a transparent glass orb with swirls of silvered glass (for those that know their soft glass, I'm thinking something like Double Helix's Hyperion which gives some beautiful greens and blues with a bit of silvery shimmer to them.)

Something a little like this but in soft glass, not boro and using a Hyperion as frit a little less so there's more negative space and depth to the piece:

But given costs of glass and silvered glass especially, it would have to be a super special kickstarter kind of deal and I'm not sure the interest would be there, pretty though it would be. (At a very rough estimate I think I'd need to charge around £50 per piece to cover material costs and time)

Torchworked glass is a fascinating craft because half the craft is heady dudes making bongs and pipes with psychedelic zigzags and spirals and Homer Simpson murrine decoration, and the other half is polite older women making flower beads and butterflies (and also smoking weed but not like, as an aesthetic).
