‘Ah Carlos, great to finally meet you!’ Jos greeted as Carlos arrived at Max’s house. Carlos was nervous. This was the first time he met Max’s family, and wanted to make a good impression. He knew he had already blown it; he was wearing a pretty ugly turtleneck. Although it was either that or to show off the bite Max gave him last night. As he shook Jos’ hand and went inside, he was met with a table of Verstappens, ready to have dinner. 'Hello,’ Carlos said, his voice cracking up a bit. 'Sorry I’m late..’'You’re not,’ Victoria replied. Carlos smiled and sat next to Max. Max smirked at him.

'So Carlos,’ Jos started as he sat down. 'It’s nice to have one of Max’s friends for dinner. He doesn’t have many friends.’Carlos nearly choked on his water. Friends? They were a little more than that, needless to say. Carlos quickly smiled in response.'Yes, Max and I are very good friends. We’re very close…’ Carlos nudged Max, and Max nearly blushed. Carlos was getting back at him. 'So what do you both do off the track?’ Victoria asked. 'We just…hang out together, as friends..’ Max replied awkwardly. Carlos cleared his throat. 'Yes, we do what friends do!’ He said. Max tried so hard not to laugh. He couldn’t let this cover slip, but Carlos was pushing it. 'I bet you boys get up to a lot of mischief,’ Jos said. 'Pardon?’ Carlos asked, really quite scared. 'I meant you must drive Mr Tost mad..’'Oh yes, sometimes…’

They all laughed a little. There was a moment’s silence. Max lifted his hand. 'Could you pass the salt, Daddy?’Jos reached for the salt. So did Carlos. 'Oh fuck,’ muttered the Spaniard.
