Why This Fucking Rules Actually:

- echoing tsukasa’s first character arc (focused on himself & what he stands to gain from wxs and emu/nene/rui -> growing to care about them as his friends & being willing to give up the commercial chance/lose the show contest for the WMS show). It’s the selfish & selfless aspects of his character we see over and over again. Tsukasa *is* egotistical and selfish. Sorry! I’m right. A lot of what he does is self serving & he tends to focus on himself. He’s just also capable of being very selfless. Which in turn benefits him. & This isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

He loves & desires attention and fame. He wants to use that attention and fame to make other people happy. He wants it to be *him* (& wxs) making other people happy because it comes with attention and fame. He wants to put on good shows because it gives him what he wants and he enjoys it. He’s responsible and helpful and kind to others because that is what his idea of a star is, and because he likes being viewed that way and the gratification that comes from it. He compromises and gives up what he wants and does things for others because that’s what a star would do, so that is what he will do. He is selfless because he is selfish. He is selfish so that he can be selfless. He is a fascinating critter & a paradox of a man.

That being said, the one person he consistently values over all else, above shows & fame, has always been Saki. Tsukasa “the grind never stops” “tried to go to an acting gig with food poisoning when he couldn’t make it out the door without collapsing” Tenma skips practice when she’s sick. Rui (+ nene iirc) is shocked that he’s actually a really good older brother (twilight musical parade). He wants her to be happy more than anything. Saki is the most important person in his life. She’s his number one fan & centric to his first step towards improving at acting (torpe event) for a reason. He would not be who he is, where he is, or have his current goal & motivations without her.

Before he wanted to be a star he wanted to be a good big brother, & being a good big brother is so important to him that it has essentially been baked into what his idea of a star *is*. It has quite literally shaped his entire personality. It’s natural enough to him that even as someone who loves to be praised he will go “? That’s just normal though I’m not doing much” when Saki or Toya comment on it (his SOAD 2*, Akito’s initial 3*, Toya’s doll festival 4*, etc).

Tsukasa’s fragment sekai is based on a book he read with Saki when they were kids. It’s about a brother doing The Most to make his sister happy. He goes into the situation thinking about acting by trying to figure out the weird expression on Hiro’s face, & finds out it’s an expression near tears that is only weird because Hiro never shows it to his little sister. Tsukasa spends his time in the fragment sekai helping Hiro be a good older brother. His last words to Hiro are praising Hiro for all he’s done and encouraging him. & tsukasa does figure out what he was trying to figure out! But that’s less important to both the viewer and Tsukasa than helping Hiro.

Nene, Rui, and Emu’s fragment sekai were about their dreams & what they value most - Nene wants to be on Broadway and grow with her friends by her side, Rui wants to put on incredible shows and continue to be with the people who accepted him, Emu wants to carry on her grandpa’s legacy and make him proud (and I think it was deliberate to release emu+tsukasa’s fragment sekai cards together given that saki is to tsukasa what emu’s grandpa is to her).

Just as you can’t separate Tsukasa’s character from Saki, you can’t separate his goal of becoming a better actor and future star from his goal of being a good big brother. His relationship to Saki was the catalyst for his dream, & that’s pretty clearly why they chose to make his fragment sekai reflect this. They’re emphasizing one of the most crucial and often overlooked parts of his character. And it was a fantastic decision.

He says it isn’t him, and keeps that same “get over it” attitude, but it’s pretty clear to you that he doesn’t want you to be in pain or uncomfortable.

He may be a dick but he still cares in his own way.

Two things, one I absolutely understand messy ships having the own appeal because I did not like DabiGeten until it was revealed they were related and suddenly that was my fucked up shit to indulge in.

Two, I do not see NatsuDabi on any of those lists and just wanted to get your take on that if you're up to sharing. Because honestly putting Dabi under a microscope for study just means things like that potential fucked up "you're the only one that saw me even if you couldn't help me" attachment is right there for me to sink my teeth into.

1. That's so valid and also absolutely hilarious, I hope you have fun!

2. Natsuo/Dabi is a fine, messy ship. TW: suicide: Like Natsuo, who has been angry and guilty for years because he couldn't stop Toya's death, suddenly having Dabi back in his life could be fascinating. Like pre-LOV Dabi appearing to him and asking him for little favors here and there, coming and going like a ghost, and Natsuo always trying to hold onto him a little longer to get him to come home. But Dabi always pulling away. And then Natsuo having to grapple with it when Dabi tries to get him into bed to 'help stop the pain' and him being disgusted, but this is Toya, this is his big brother. He was supposed to help him and he failed all those years ago, he can't turn him away and fail now. Dabi coming back whenever he feels like it, taking food, money, sex, and leaving Natsuo alone in his apartment, vomiting and then trying desperately to scrub the smell of smoke from his skin and sheets. Dabi just progressively turning him into more and more of a ghost until Natsuo wishes that Toya was haunting him instead because at least he would be able to live with himself then. Dabi finding his brother hanging in the apartment and burning his suicide note so that Enji has to grapple with another kid gone and this one he won't even know why.

Uh, but yeah, that's an okay messy ship, but if I'm going to ship Dabi with one of his siblings, I would get way, way more mileage out of ShotoDabi, which is why I left NatsuoDabi off the list!

VBS because the four of them tend to idealize their respective partner. They all spend their time thinking they're not good enough and wishing they could be like aibou. Akito has a whole damn song talking about how he feels he's falling behind and that song mentions TheMoon (DerMond) and Winter. Toya also mentioned feeling like he finally reached Akito's level in SBD after Period of Nocturne, when we know all this time Akito already felt not-good-enough. Kohane look up to An since the second they met and An is so self-explanatory that I won't even elaborate.

So thinking of them waking up in their respective partner's body one day is just hilarious. They would get panicked, confused, maybe try to reach out to their team or maybe not. And then I think their first thought would be to try singing with their aibou voice. Out of curiosity, old habit because they have to practice no matter what, but also because they can finally live the dream. They wished they were more like aibou so much all the time and now that wish is granted.

But I also want to see them hit walls and get stupidly stuck. Makes stupid mistakes. Trying to sing like they usually do and realise it sounds off. And getting frustrated and wondering why only to come to the realisation that their voice is the opposite of Aibou's one and that singing the way you usually do with their voice won't do. And that it goes both way. So it finally click on their mind that their voice is unique and that they both complete each other. That they don't need to become like the other but to become themselves at full power to support Aibou.

You also need to wonder about their family's reaction. Kohane would maybe tell Ken directly while An would make a pathetic attempt at pretending to be Kohane. Toya would act too much like himself, leading Ena to wonder WHY IS MY BROTHER SO NICE TODAY IS HE SICK ?? And Akito would be stuck in a nightmare when he's forced to stay calm and composed to not cause Toya problem when deep inside he truly wants to start a fight with this stupid old man who practically ignores him.

Meanwhile Mizumafu

In one word : transgender.

Because I love Transmasc Mafuyu (tho I've been thinking about transfem Mafuyu lately. They have no sense of identity so any variation of gender can be applied to them and it's fascinating--- ahem.)

Transmasc Mafuyu totally unaware of it and... Mizuki. Being Mizuki.

Mizuki waking up, (At Kanade's house or at Mafumom one. Up to what you want to do.) confused, before getting euphoric because they're in a female body and it's the most freeing feeling ever.

Mizuki five seconds later realising Mafuyu is in their body and getting close to a panick attack.

Mafuyu waking up confused and only getting even more confused. Messaging herself (Mizuki) and straight out asking what the heck does that mean (I'm so sorry Mizuki it's angst time for you)

Mafuyu starting to realise it's weirdly comfortable and in true Mafuyu fashion bluntly wondering why Mizuki is trying so hard to hide it and look cute so much

Mizuki dressing up extra-cute in Mafuyu's body while Mafuyu didn't gave a fck and. Maybe tied their hair as usual but just picked the most basic clothes Mizuki has and that's it. (They both stare at each other in horror when they met. "What have you done with my body ??? That's not how I'm supposed to look!". It's funnier with Kanade witnessing it)

And there's probably a lot you can do with Mizuki in Mafuyu's body at Mafumom's house but I struggle to imagine it. Overall I wonder which of those two would act like the other the best (Mafuyu is used to pretend and act but not in a Mizuki way and vice-versa. But they're also both scarily good at grasping eachother, I think.)

Ena : Why is no one acting like usual today is it a prank and no one told me ??? (Except if you go crazy and swap KanaEna.)

And MinoHaru is self-explanatory as well. Minori waking up and going like "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I BECAME HARUKA-CHAN OH MY GOD IT MUST BE A DREAM." Funnier if they haven't met yet btw. Haruka waking up in her number one fan body, no clue who's that but it gives her a day when no one will perceive her and if it's after she quit she'd most likely appreciate it.

Until she see herself trip on the ground in front of people or something.

And now that I think about it, I think ShizuAi also has that 'I wish I were you' trope at the start of the game... ShizuAi swap... Mmmh....

Project Sekai and his duo pairing in each team really gives room for those kind of thoughts.

I don't know about l/n and WxS. But what about l/n and WxS swap. Shiho waking up in Tsukasa's body, living the dream. Or dumb stuff like this. Honami and Emu. Nene and Saki. Ichika and Rui. Everyone swaps in way that feels painfully wrong and chaotic.

Because if you swap Tsukasa and Saki they can just pretend to be the other super easily. Same with Shiho and Nene. And it's at the same time way funnier and way more boring.

Ichika and Honami are doomed, tho.

I know in whatever au we have Nezu be secretly related to the new stuff but I think it would be more interesting if he wasn't. Also I don't know enough about cardcaptor to really see a parallel character or the like. Nezu is a being of logic and quirks however weird they are, are always rooted in some logic. Magic is a true wild card he cannot predict. That makes him both extremely curious and also wary of Bakugou.

Nezu is fascinated and here to cause problems, but he hasn't looked too into Magic yet.

But we're not really having full on parallel characters. (although I KNOW that at some point I'm gonna have to clarify which Toya I'm referring to lmao).

Like Katsuki fits into Sakura's role because it's a cycle of the new master of the Cards having to capture them and make them their own to gain control of them. And Izuku fits well into Tomoyo's role re: childhood friend who is cheering on the MC.

But there aren't really exact counterparts in the present for like. Sakura's family, or Syaoran, or even Eriol and Kaho.

Kero and Yue reappear because they're kinda immortal. /possibly/ Spinel Sun and Ruby Moon are still kicking too, but I don't have plans for them.

Personal Take Incoming (Critical Role)

Consider this a diary entry explaining some of my thoughts on a few Critical Role characters. Avoid reading this post if you don't want my takes on Keyleth, Fjord, Ashton, Orym, Imogen, Percy, and Caleb.

So, I've noticed a common trend with my favourite characters across a variety of fandoms. I personally am an individual who gravitates towards characters with integrity, and rules for themselves that they follow. Characters that have lines in the sand that they can draw and then defend. It doesn't necessarily have to be rules put in place by society, it can be ones they made up for themselves. These characters oftentimes end up becoming the moral centre of their party, which adds another fascinating angle as they try to navigate maintaining their morals with a wider group filled with diverse opinions.

I suppose that is why Keyleth was my favourite Vox Machina character from pretty much the get-go! Her integrity was what endeared me to her throughout the entire campaign. She had opinions of what she thought was right and wrong, and she tried her hardest to enforce that view. Were there times when she learned she was wrong, yes. But she kept what she learned in mind and adjusted her internal monologue to see fit. Keyleth's integrity and unwillingness to engage in the overly amoral actions of Vox Machina created a lot of interesting dynamics.

In campaign two, Fjord quickly became my favourite for very similar reasons. He was the one to ask Beau to apologise to Toya and insist that the party help the Schuster kids so that they wouldn't be put in an orphanage. He also maintained a certain level of honesty with the rest of the party about his history and his mysterious dreams. In this case, Fjord wasn't necessarily 'good' (as he was comfortable with doing some pretty shitty stuff), but he still had expectations of himself and rules that he would not break.

I guess that is why Asthon and Orym are currently my favourite members of Bells Hells too. They both have convictions that they will not stray from and a certain level of integrity that the party honestly needs. Now, whether or not they are right is another discussion entirely, but the point is that they have the courage to stick to their guns even when the group is leaning in another direction.

People have been complaining that the takes on Imogen Temult are unfair, and some of those takes are unfair! But I won't shy away from the fact that Imogen is my least favourite member of Bells Hells (I still think they're all fantastic - including Imogen herself). She is my least favourite for exactly the reasons above. Imogen supposedly has internal rules, but we've seen her be more than happy to break them when they don't suit her at a given moment. She's said that she hates to pry into people's minds and that she avoids it wherever possible - but we see her willingly dive into the minds of people like Dorian without their consent. Imogen has stated that Laudna is the most important person in the world to her and that she loves her more than anything - but Imogen cannot look Laudna in the eyes and tell her that she won't side with Laudna's murderer. That doesn't make the character any less interesting, but it definitely makes it harder for me personally to like her.

I've seen a handful people across socials imply that if you like Percy or Caleb, but not Imogen - it's because she's a woman. This is where I wholeheartedly disagree. While the overly negative opinions of Imogen are harsh and unwarranted, Imogen is the first character whose allegiances I am genuinely uncertain about. Percy and Caleb have said and done truly awful things; I think we can all agree on that. And while they have considered leaving the group, it was under very different circumstances. For the longest time, Percy had nothing waiting for him outside Vox Machina, so the only time I feared he would leave the group was when he died (since Tal confirmed he would've been happy to stay dead). Caleb too, had very little beyond the Mighty Nein and he considered leaving them on multiple occasions. But never once did he consider leaving them to join their enemy. Now, had the M9 faced the Cerberus Assembly earlier in the campaign, that might have been different - but I never feared that Caleb would switch sides in the campaign we did get.

The thing is, Imogen does have something waiting for her: Lilliana and Predathos. I'm not sure about her allegiance, and that's where Imogen, Percy, and Caleb are different. While what Imogen has said/done has been tame compared to what Percy and Caleb have said/done - I know that the line Imogen is toeing is one neither of the others had dared to cross. Percy would never have considered joining forces with the Briarwoods, Thordak, or the Whispered One. Caleb would never have dared to join sides with Avantika, Obann, or Trent. But Imogen might.

That is fascinating. And dangerous. The future isn't set in stone, and all I can do now is bite my tongue and wait for episode 50.

do they truly love you or not? they told you everything you needed to know about them, and you were there for them when they had trouble and hard times. you’re close friends, so it shouldn’t be so hard, should it? but— even so, shouldn’t you two stay friends? isn’t that the only path for you two?

rejection is a huge fear for them, they know it. the love that swirls around in their heart is for you and only you. love is bittersweet. the fear of rejection is one thing. things will change if they confess their feelings, so the only and possible way is to keep things the way they are now.

the way how they read it in books and how various people described the term love made them think, "love must be a sweet thing to experience!" yet the current situation was enough for them to think otherwise. no matter how they ignore the warmth, it'll never go away and they can never subside it. and eventually, they concluded the feeling could never go away, because you were a special individual for their heart. the pain in their heart wasn't sweet love. even so, they continued to fight that huge stab through their chest, just for your love. perhaps love is bittersweet, but if it's you they'd devote and sacrifice their entire life just for you.

Tbh I think a case could be made for An having fun while being a hall monitor. It's just this type of fun:

/j but I also think while she was Sick of it she didn't completely hate it because if she did she'd just... Quit. Like maybe not outright quit but she would have the gut to way "Hey I'm not doing this anymore" to her committee and I think they'd be fine with it. Soft quitting her committee duties like she did in On your feet!, she could do that much earlier if she didn't enjoy at least some part of the job but didn't. Which has to count for something. Also Akian flopping is entirely too funny. They flopped at their archive cover because Akito sounded So Bad and the mixing was terrible and we still don't know what happened there. Their Egoist duet was so bad the game actually had to re-do it because they skewed line distribution and Akito basically got to only sing back vocals to An (which I thought was funny & girlboss & queen move of her but yeah objectively it wasn't great). In comparison to these ones Echo is fine but it's very early into the game launch so neither of their VAs have "got" the role yet so it just kinda sounds awkward. I'm twirling my hair and sighing and giggling at this phenomenon because How Does This Keep Happening. Like they usually are on the "ok" to "amazing" scale when singing lines together in regular comms/covers but the moment they're left alone something goes Wrong. Fascinating.

(also I think even with fixed line distribution their Egoist cover is Not Good which is not surprising given the fact that I think it was Imai that said they had a lot of difficulty with singing Gekokujou's repeated rhythm parts and Egoist has a lot of those? I'm not sure who said that actually but eh. But An slayed the solo Gekokujou anything so we still don't know why this happened)

YEAH… like was it a blast for her no would she do it again also no but if she really truly despised doing it she would probably also hold at least some animosity towards ruikasa. I think the first part works well for rui and an and then as the song goes on it fits less and less.

I think it will be interesting to read.. and so toya x reader and tsukasa x reader when you decide to ask them to help you practice playing the piano, but you end up getting distracted by their beautiful hands and fingers all the time.

"My lovely co-star?" You blinked, looking up at him. He had removed his hands from the piano to place them on your shoulders, "I know it seems a bit hard, but I assure you that you'll do well!"

You blinked, but nodded your head, attempting to play the piece. He played it again for you, and you just kept getting more and more distracted

"Oh, I see!" He stops playing once more, only to take your hands in his and kiss your fingertips with a smile, "We can take a break to admire each other instead!"

He doesn't exactly realize your fascination with his hands, simply thinking that you were just admiring him. It's alright, he admires you too <3

jt (finally) watches warrior nun - s1 e1

So yeah I confess: I actually haven't sat down and properly watched the series yet! But with the mystery continuation coming, I figured I finally should do it (plus my life right now is about doing things that I've been meaning to do so here we are).

Anyway it's a weird experience, watching Warrior Nun because 1) I've not sat down to watch a show in a long ass time and 2) I already know the major beats and arcs and have characterizations and head canons formed. Still, it's a credit to the whole team that it's still rather compelling.

One of the biggest things that surprised me was how the camera lingers on Ava, giving us a chance to experience things alongside her. (There's some beautiful wide shots - it's interesting to see it all in context after watching so many fanvids lol) Again, I haven't watched a lot of shows in the past, oh, decade, but I'm assuming it's not common now for there to be this kind of breathing room, an opportunity for the actor to yknow, act (which Alba Baptista does brilliantly, not just in her facial expressions but really her whole body gosh). And it's a fantastic device to create sympathy for her, to connect with her emotionally.

I also didn't realize just how central Mary is at the start - and goddamn, does Toya Turner give us everything from the jump. Additionally fascinating is seeing how Vincent's betrayal is also set up from the start - it's kinda fun to know what's going to happen and see the clues. For example, how he deliberately manipulates Mary when she - rightfully - calls him out on choosing her to do the dirty work. The way he puts pressure on Mary by making it seem like she (already emotionally compromised) is the only one he can trust in a seemingly helpless situation made me want to punch him and that's brilliant writing.

Last and mostly, I have to of course talk about Beatrice. The thing that stuck out to me is how much leadership she shows in the small things she does. We see her both in action/in a stressful situation (which I'll talk more about in a sec) and in the aftermath - it's layers that I've only seen in experienced leaders when I was in the military. We see her both as a strategist (leaving Shannon and making Lilith stay) and an emotionally competent leader (reassuring Camila post-battle), but the thing that fascinated me the most is that we also see her as someone capable of doing a hard thing: potentially taking down Mary.

The moment I'm referring to is when they're going to take the halo out of Shannon and Mary refuses, pointing her shotgun at the surgeon.

Look at Beatrice here: She has immediately reached for what looks like a side arm. She glances only once at the surgeon but during the whole exchange, she is focused solely on Mary. There was no hesitation, just a steady at-the-ready the whole time. Would she have threatened Mary if Shannon not spoken up? We'll never know, but it's fascinating all the same, all these little hints of what she's capable of all here in just the first episode.

Also can I just mention just how amazing that "she's right" exchange was between Beatrice and Mary?

Idk if it was the lighting or the makeup or just Kristina Tonteri-Young's brilliant choices (or just all of the above), but the heartbreak in both of their faces is just damn, really freaking good.

In any case, we'll see how long it takes to get through both seasons lol
