Today, I’m talking about grocery store prices.

I chose this topic because I’m worried. Terrible times are ahead. We’ve been writing a lot about politics—and we’ll keep doing so—but it can feel like scream-preaching to the void-choir. We’ve been wracking our brains to come up with nourishing, material strategies to help our followers through the lean times ahead.

Right now, all I want is to give you guys an easy win. If I could use my time and talents to help you folks save $20 a month, I’d be good with that. Groceries are something we all must buy in order to live. So I opened a small investigation comparing prices at a few local grocery stores.

My “small investigation” became the most time- and labor-intensive topic I’ve ever covered for Bitches Get Riches.

This investigation hauled me bodily to the summit of my abilities, then cast me down the mountainside of my own ambition into a boiling, stinking chasm of magmatic insanity.

Sign the Petition! Tell Trader Joes what we want!

Some anti-Israel "activists" are trying to pressure Trader Joe's to stop carrying Israeli products. As far as I can tell, they don't even carry many products made in Israel, so this seems very performative to me. You can always just not buy Israeli products when you shop, if you object to them, of course.

Historically and currently, this type of performative anti-Israel protest often comes hand-in-hand with hostility toward visible Jews and Israelis. In the past, these protests have frequently been followed by pressure to stop carrying kosher food at all.

Trader Joe's is the only grocery store to carry kosher food in some US communities and the only one to carry kosher meat in even more US cities. We need Trader Joe's all throughout USA to remain safe and welcoming for Jews and Israelis. Please sign the petition to keep the current Israeli products at Trader Joe's, and keep them a safe place for Jews and Israelis.

If these bigoted "activists" succeed, it could open the door for the removal of all kosher foods from Trader Joe's, even ones not made in Israel, and then those communities that rely on Trader Joe's will be left without a place to get kosher foods.

Not a full week after I mention in a story that Gerald's favorite candy is Violet Crumble, which is honeycomb candy covered in chocolate, and then discuss how it can be a little hard to find in America, I find this in the New Items shelf at Trader Joe's. Did I will it into existence? The world may never know.

So the one thing my wife misses the most from the US after moving to Thailand several years ago is Trader Joe's snacks. Whenever I go to the US for business I always grab her as many as I can. Her comments on the latest one she tried made me laugh so hard I couldn't keep it to myself 😂

Hardywood Speculoos Cookie Butter Beer (Picked up at Trader Joe's). A 1 of 4. Look, this is well made and has no obvious faults. It's just absolutely not for me -- the vanilla, intense sweetness, and expected speculoos notes just feel extraordinarily out of place. If this were a stout with some roast, it might work better, but I'm not even sure it would. It's just weird.

Trader Joe's is selling animal crackers that appear to be designed by a person who was recently cured of blindness, driven at high speed through a zoo then asked to sketch all the animals

Avocado toast has been a thing for a hot minute and I don't know if I'm quote unquote, making it "right", but let me tell you it was delicious. 🤤

-toasted the bread

-mashed avocado up with some tomato, onion and a little lemon juice and placed on the toast

-husband fried 2 eggs and added Trader Joe's green goddess seasoning and placed them on the toast

-topped it off with some sharp cheddar cheese and broiled for 2-3 mins

Highly reccommend this version!
