i mean i don't think it's evil to give a homeless person food instead of cash, even if the reason is because you don't want them to spend money on drugs or whatever. the BEST thing you can give a homeless person is whatever they need at that moment, and the second best thing is cold hard cash. but when i'm panhandling i'm never going to say no to a snack and i'm still going to be grateful even if i can't eat what they gave me.

today someone gave me a bag with three meals in it, but they were all frozen. i don't have any way to heat this food up that won't make it taste weird (like putting it on my engine or something), so this stuff is inedible to me. i tried all day, but without a microwave it's just. not gonna be good. i'm still grateful that she tried to give me something useful.

i have three pairs of gloves i got for free, and i took them all because who knows what might happen? i might lose two pairs, or they might get holes in them, or it might end up so cold i need three layers of gloves. i might meet someone else who needs gloves.

it's important to acknowledge that not every homeless person can take the food you want to give them, or might not need food because they can get it through other means. it's important to acknowledge that substance abuse issues are more complex than 'if i can't afford it, i'll quit' and that a homeless person drinking some beer or smoking some cigarettes or weed isn't a moral failure or a lack of priorities on their part. it might not even be at the level of substance abuse. at the same time, i don't think you have to give us cash or nothing. give whatever you're willing and able to give.

like it says on my sign, anything helps. yes, cash helps the most, because cash is the gateway to pretty much anything else i could need. but morale helps a lot too. knowing people are kind and willing to give helps. a free bag of cheetos helps.

Help me and my husband get a scooter!

Hello, my name is Caktus/Bastian and I am trying to get an enclosed scooter for my husband. It is becoming more expensive for him to get rides to and from work. His is the only income we have since an injury (I have no discs i. My lower spine) prevents me from holding down a steady job. All of his paycheck is spent on bills and other household expenses so we won't be able to afford this without a lot of help but, after some discussion he and I decided that an enclosed scooter would be the best option.

A few of the reasons being :

Neither of us have a drivers license, but in our state a scooter of this caliber does not need one.

It is enclosed and has a heater, meaning he would be able to continue using it in the cold months.

It does not take gas and is entirely electric. (we later plan to invest in a portable solar charger.

A back seat means he can take a passenger or even do store runs to stores not quite within walking distance for us.

And all together it is much cheaper than a car, both in short term and the long run.

Help me and my husband afford an enclosed scooter!

I know there are plenty of other, much more important causes to donate to right now. But if you could just hear me out.

Since injuring my back (I have no discs in my lower spine) I have been unable to keep a steady job. My partner's income is the only income we have right now, and it is becoming more and more expensive for him to get to and from work regularly. There are several reasons an enclosed scooter would benefit us.

Neither of us have a license but we would not need one for a scooter

It's electric, no burning of fuel, and we have also been discussing investing in a small solar charger

It comes with a heater meaning that he could continue to get to and from work even in the winter

It is much cheaper than a car all together.

These are just a few of the benefits.

There’s a team working on fixing the leaks in the rood of the department store I work at and they have been playing the hook of the instrumental version of “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri on loop, for several hours, over the loud speakers of the store.

JUST THE HOOK.

Is the person/people who picked the music okay? Is this some form of attempted psychological torture? I really want to know the reasoning behind this decision.

A customer asked me where the music was coming from and I finally got to share my observation. As soon as I told them about it they played the Havana-na-na-na song hook just once and made me look like a crazy person ☠️

Last update: I was wrong about the source of the music. A co-worker informed me it was a guy panhandling outside and pretending to play the violin or something. That explains why it’s just been two songs back and forth. I’m glad that it makes sense now.

I know this needs to be said on boomer facebook and not here BUT. I was in the car with my inlaws the other day and let me tell you.... usamericans will find the weirdest reasons to deem homeless people unworthy of donations. Ive seen posts before about people smoking, having a cell phone, etc. And hearing old people say "well it makes me wonder how needy they really are" or "they'll probably spend it on drugs and alcohol" but let me tell you its gotten worse

My mother in law said something like "well he has all those fast food cups, it makes me wonder how much he really needs the money"

I had to gently explain that sometimes people give food and drinks instead of money, especially to people who are outside in the middle of summer. Thats why so many people congregate outside of grocery stores and fast food restaurants, people are more likely to get some extra groceries or a value meal than give them cash money. Hardly anyone actually carries cash nowadays, especially small bills.

Please, give whatever you can. If you never have cash on you but are otherwise financially stable, get an extra box of nuggets and a water from mcdonalds. Ask how their blood sugar is doing. An ice water is 30 cents at 7-11, a water bottle is 25 cents at Sams Club. Grab a bottle of sunscreen from the store, because skin cancer kills. Give whatever you can, and make the world a more caring place to be in.

So today was panhandling after I've been sitting there crying a woman came up and gave me $2 and I was chatting with her; and she said "oh it's so interesting, you looked so sad when I walked by and you're so perky now." And I just thought "yeah I used to work customer service girl." I used to hide in the bathroom at that damn Subway bawling my eyes out, wipe the tears off and come out and smile at fucken customers. I'm also an abuse victim. I know how to be pleasant to people ffs.
