Humans are average at everything
And that makes other species crazy
"You swim well for your limb configuration but you will never be as fast in water as a Majoriranji."
Mo agreed with a nod. "They have fins, it's an unfair contest really."
"Nacbaqurs climb cliffs better than humans."
"Longer limbs, more fingers, that's no surprise. I know some elite climbers who could keep up but mostly ture enough."
"Chexits run much faster."
"Ah," Mo raised a finger. "They run on four legs, different configuration, unfair comparison. "
"My point is still valid. And you don't fly either."
"Mmm, no," Mo stopped to consider that one. "I don't think we have a winged ancestor. I have been sky diving, though, so I'm sure we missed out there."
"Sky diving? No, I have no wish to know. My question is this, why are you so feared? You cannot swim like a Majoriranji, or climb like a Nacbaqur, or run like a Chexit. Can you do anything special? Why should anyone be scared of humans?"
"Is that why you captured us? That's what you want to know?" Mo smiled as he leaned back in his chair. He had been afraid. Now he was amused.
He knew rescue was on the way. Just before the invaders managed to grab him and the other researchers, they were able to send a distress call. The Earth Alliance took attacks on their people seriously, they knew swift responses discouraged casual piracy.
"Okay, you'll probably be dead soon anyway so I'll give you a freebie. We're not the fastest swimmers, but most of us can swim and dive, and we can all hold our breath. We're not the fastest climbers, but our ancestors lived in trees, tall canopy plants, we can all climb. We're not the fastest runners, but we're not bad in a sprint, and we'll still be going hours after your fancy fast runners have collapsed and died of exhaustion. We don't have to be the best at one thing when we can be pretty good at just about everything."

Remember that orc I posted a few days ago? I was still thinking about him so I asked the person I did the trade with if he wouldn't mind doing another one, and he said yes.
Character still by @PunkpopPunkpop!

Challenge #03626-I338: Parcel of Peace
These creatures are DANGEROUS, don't even think of challenging them, are you mad?? They eat POISONS for fun! They drink ACIDS for refreshment! Their bodies are made so they can run for MILES before they even begin to get TIRED! DO NOT FLAKKING CHALLENGE THEM! -- Anon Guest
Who could possibly believe that a rubbery hairless biped with an internal skeleton could also be the most relentless killing machine in the known universe? Certainly not Thrith Wout, who was running for hir life from the unstoppable Deathworlder horror.
It was an unbelievable series of regrettable incidents. And a lot of regrets. Wout should never have flown into an area marked with several Human sightings. Having flown into the area, ze should have ideally turned tail and run upon spotting another ship. Having flown closer for identification, ze should never have opened fire on a Human vessel.
Ze should never have set off the EMP after realising that regular mass projectiles had no effect[1]. Having set off the EMP, the automated systems of both ships put them in the same hospitable planet for the softest landing that passive systems could permit.

Arguments about fantasy races being “coded” as real-world ethnicities would be easier to take seriously if the people making those arguments knew a damn thing about real-world ethnicities or fantasy races.
The obvious one being “orcs are black people”. Africa of course being known for its mounted archers with single-edged swords, straight black hair, and shamanic religion. Yep. Totally Africa. Or orcs being known for close-order light infantry armed with spears and elongated-oval shields covered in leather, using the ‘buffalo horn’ formation. Yes that is the iconic tactic that orcs use, in most depictions.
Probably second stupidest is “goblins are Jews”. Ah yes that stereotype of the Jews living in termite-like cave networks, being accomplished in few arts but the construction of booby-traps, and knowing no tactics but mobbing enemies. Or the standard fantasy depiction of goblins as blending into non-goblin societies and cultivating international influence which they use solely to protect their own interests. That’s totally a thing.
