Discrepancy #50
The time it takes the ichthyosaur to secrete acid is different.
âBut OP itâs probably just a translation errorââ âOP I thought you said youâd stop focusing on these-â
Shush. This one is a big deal.
In the webtoon, the time Dokja says for an ichthyosaur to produce acid after ingestion is 3 minutes.

[ORV Webtoon, Episode 13]
(Also the spelling of ichthyosaur is different but who cares. Itâs a hard word to spell either way)
In the novel, itâs 3 HOURS.

[ORV Novel, Chapter 12]
Thatâs a huge difference! Think about everything that takes place between the time Dokja gets thrown into the ichthyosaur.
He bargains with Bihyung, gets a contract made, buys shit off the Dokkaebi Bag, and prepares himself. Go look at how long that sequence is. He canât do all that in 3 minutes!
We make take 3 minutes to read it, but Dokja is not getting all that shit done in the time it takes for me to listen to a pop song. I donât care how good he is at what he does, he canât possibly do that.
This is why we read carefully, people.

"Windsows"
Microsoft's translator team for Norwegian BokmÄl has for years now been among the most utterly incompetent I've ever seen, but now they can't even seem to translate the name of their own product correctly.
smh
I have for years now begged them in Feedback Hub to fire their entire translator team, and by now it's time for public shaming of the translator team in question.

I know it's a 25+ year old argument that no one really cares about anymore and that the powers-that-be have already spoken definitively for, but...
Aeris >>> Aerith
It's not just a hill I'm willing to die on. It's THE hill I PLAN to die on. I bought a grave plot on that hill. The tombstone has already been ordered. I am picking out the coffin that I will go to my eternal rest in on that hill.

Disclaimer, I'm an atheistic goy from a mostly Culturally Christian background. (I don't identify with Christianity, I'm just warning of the dominant cultural background of where I'm from in case anything I subconsciously picked up growing up around it leaks through). If I misunderstand something, I want a Jewish tumblr to correct my goyische self. I'm still learning.
I find this very illuminating in giving specific examples for something I vaguely understood happened. It's pointing how a lot of differences in Christian thought compared to Jewish thought sometimes trace back to how Christian theology was working with translations of translations & translation errors are common even for direct translations. At minimum, we are looking at a chain of Hebrew-Aramaic-Greek-Latin & that's for Catholic doctrine. A chain that long has to produce translation errors at some point. Protestant doctrine is spotty. Some sects translated the Catholic bible making another link of potential translation errors. Other sects, actually noticing the translation problem, at least went back to Masoretic Texts to try a one-to-one translation of what Christians, per their supercessionist doctrine call the "Old Testament". The Anglicans try to do a mix of both in their King James Bible, for reasons I don't get.
I already knew that Judaism doesn't have the concept of "original sin" (which is one of the really big issues I have with Christianity). The earlier bloggers already pointed out that hell isn't really a thing either & even "chata" seems less onerous than the English concept of "sin". Sin is seen as a permanent stain on one's soul, but if I'm understanding "chata" correctly, it's just a mistake that you own up to & try to do better next time. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the way that @the-home-kvetch explained Jewish "chata" seems more like most humanistic philosophies ideas of learning from mistakes rather than the absolutist "Do perfect or else you are damned" that Christianity demands. If I'm getting this right, this might partially explain why many humanistic & atheistic people of Jewish backgrounds still identify as Jews (with the exceptions mostly Americans of Haredim upbringing) while most humanistic & atheistic people of Christian & Muslim backgrounds don't identify with those faiths, with many outright opposing those faiths.
In a more innocuous example (the only one I actually knew before reading the other commenters even knowing logically there would be more), even the so called "apple" of the Garden of Eden was almost certainly not an apple. Apple was a mistranslation in the Latin from earlier Greek sources (still pretty late in the chain considering Greek editions are translations of Aramaic texts that are translations of Hebrew texts). We don't have evidence of apples in the Levant that early (they originate in Central Asia, but were already in Europe at the time Genesis was likely written). I will leave it to someone Jewish to say what the forbidden fruit actually was, as I have read multiple hypotheses & frankly I can't read Hebrew, so I can't go back to the original sources to tell which is more likely.
âJudaism is not a religion of blind obedience. Indeed, astonishingly in a religion of 613 commandments, there is no Hebrew word that means âto obeyâ. When Hebrew was revived as a living language in the nineteenth century, and there was need for a verb meaning âto obey,â it had to be borrowed from the Aramaic: le-tsayet. Instead of a word meaning âto obey,â the Torah uses the verb shema, untranslatable into English because it means [1] to listen, [2] to hear, [3] to understand, [4] to internalise, and [5] to respond. Written into the very structure of Hebraic consciousness is the idea that our highest duty is to seek to understand the will of God, not just to obey blindly.â
â Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks (via yidquotes)

Me: *believes to know the answer, but determined to get it double-checked just in case*
-EAP's version
-MUNPIA's version
Me: ok, let's check it with Google Translate first...
Me: ...well ok, but I don't really trust Google Translate anyway, that site's trash. Let's try DeepL Translate, it rarely ever led me astra-
Me: ...woooookay then, I guess I was wrong!
Looks like EAP got it wrong and it should actually be LSH teaching KRS the lesson, not the other way around. Sorry for the confusion, folks! Blame EAP error, we all make mistakes sometimes! It probably makes more sense this way anyway
I often ponder who originally uttered the phrase "you have to pay for your meals." Was it Rok Soo or Soo Hyuk? When Choi Han inherited Jung Soo's memories, he claimed that Kim Rok Soo and Cale Henituse were one and the same due to this statement. However, when Cale encountered Soo Hyuk, he retorted, "Have you forgotten who taught you that, punk?" I find myself quite perplexed by the situation.
#tcf#trash of the count's family#lcf#lout of count's family#translation#translation errors#in case you have any doubts i also checked Papago#so 3/3 translation sites vote EAP got it wrong#discard whatever i said in the past#apparently it was the other way around and i was wrong last time i discussed this topic#i admit to mistakes when proven wrong with grace!!

How "official" LCF translation goes...
EAP translators shooting in the dark: "Yeah judging by these Korean symbols the Golden Dragon's name should probably be Eruhaben"
Fandom later: "It probably should have been Erhaben since that's the German word for 'sublime', right?"
EAP translators: "Upon further consideration that seems to be the case, don't worry the official translation will probably set the records straight later"
Meanwhile, "official" LCF translation be like: "WELL GRAGON ERHAVEN IT IS!!!"
