I finished Trinity Trigger on Nintendo Switch today. It was a nice action JRPG paying homage to games of ye olde times. The story started off slow but improved towards the end. My immediate feelings after rolling the end credits are positive and I can confidently say I enjoyed the game.

Publisher XSEED Games has announced the “Day 1 Edition” for Trinity Trigger, which will be available at participating retailers in North America at launch.

Trinity Trigger will be available digitally for $49.99 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Switch, and physically via the “Day 1 Edition” for all three platforms for $59.99.

The “Day 1 Edition” includes a 5.25 by 7.25 inches softcover art book containing over 100 pages of game artwork from artists Yuki Nobuteru and Raita Kazama and a two-disc soundtrack featuring the game score by composer Hiroki Kikuta, all packaged with the game in a custom box.

Trinity Trigger is an all-new action role-playing game combining the look and feel of iconic RPGs of the ’90s with an emphasis on fast-paced, customizable combat. Players take control of three young heroes as they attempt to defy fate and save the continent of Trinitia. Whether playing alone or with up to two friends via local co-op, explore diverse biomes and dungeons, strategize to exploit enemy weaknesses, and change your destiny!

Developed by FuRyu and published in North America by XSEED Games, Trinity Trigger is scheduled for release on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 in spring 2023. Trinity Trigger: Finishing Stats & Mini-Review ✨

Game: Trinity Trigger First Time/Replaying: First Time Game Time: 25 hours Console: Nintendo Switch Started: May 16, 2023 Finished: June 3, 2023

Trinity Trigger was a very fun game! The artwork is beautiful and the in-game graphics are a bit whimsical, giving the game a very "cute" look. I enjoyed the main party members and their accompanying friends (called Triggers). It was nice to see the trio's camaraderie grow, and the dialogue between them was easy to follow and often very funny.

The storytelling was carried out really well. In a nutshell, the story is about Cyan fighting his fate and trying to save the world with his 2 new friends. The story starts off pretty simple, but as you progress through the game more mythology and lore is presented to you. I found it all really interesting!

I played this alone but I love that you can play this with a friend using the co-op feature. There were battles where I wish I had someone else with me so they could dodge and switch weapons with the other characters. It can be a bit of a struggle trying to do it all on your own during intense battles. Still, I managed fine enough but if you have someone in-sync with you, the battles should be extra fun and engaging in co-op mode!

A lot of the locations were adorable, but my favorite was the Festibane forest. I was SO sad when I learned that the whole place is actually kinda... wacky. Oh well, it's still pretty! Another location that caught my eye was Astrum - I really liked the theme song and the glowing lights.

Overall

Trinity Trigger is great for anyone who wants a short JRPG that is full of color, a great story, fast battles, and lovable characters!

There are a lot of weapons to find and use, calling for experimentation and patience as you figure out which one works best.

The item inventory is limited and there is no healing magic in the game, which adds a bit of a challenge to some fights.

It's fun in single-player mode, but I think it could be even better with a friend. I would not replay this alone, but I would love to replay it again in co-op mode!

Finishing Stats:

The final boss was hard! I couldn't beat him my first try, but I learned a lot during my failed attempt and was able to switch my stuff around.

I beat all the final bosses with a bow on everyone and HP Steal. At least, I think that's the ability that healed my characters during the fights. It came in handy because of the limited number of healing items!

I also stopped trying to control all 3 characters and just focused on controlling one, but I would switch between them if I noticed someone was stuck. It was an intense fight and it felt great to win!

First impressions: the story and characters are pretty clichè so far, but actually the game is indeed very fun and nostalgic to play. Maybe I'm getting old but it feels like a relief to play something so uncomplicated for a change. Music is very Mana-esque. The gameplay/look of the game reminds me of the old PS1 jrpgs like Alundra. Some Ys vibes in there too.
