Recycle Evaluation

The second brief of 2021 was one called “Recycle”, the idea was for us to use old and discarded objects within our home, anything that was old or had obvious signs of being well-used, and we were to paint them with light, section by section, and then put it into photoshop to bring out certain areas we like to create an image that is, to put it simply, made up of each highlight from our painting with light images. We were using old items to make one final result out of everything we had photographed.

For the most part, I absolutely hated this brief. Painting with light has never been something I’ve done much research on nor was it something I’d done much of, while in NQ, we briefly did some painting with light, but nothing to this extent, and even then, I thought I knew how to do it when really I didn’t as I was always getting light trails involved in my images. Thanks to this brief, I have a strong understanding on how painting with light works and the variety of it out there, but for this brief, we were to paint an object and light it up with a flash light, LED panel or any alternative light source of our choice.

Problem 1:

The very first problem I encountered with this brief was understanding what is being asked of me. While my lecturers were explaining it in detail and even showing examples of other results of a composite, I failed to truly understand what was being asked of me, I understood that we were painting with light, but I wasn’t entirely understanding why we were to put it into photoshop to bring out the highlights of the images we have. I spoke to Mark about it after one of the Thursday classes and I left the zoom call thinking I knew what to do, and in all fairness, I did have the right idea, I just hadn’t set things up properly.

I thought we were to photograph each object separately, like we did for Illusion, so I had photographed my objects item by item and planned on putting them into my set up image. It wasn’t until the Tuesday feedback class that Mark went over the images with me and explained it better to me, I then understood what I was to do but I was having a very difficult time putting it together.

Problem 2:

After I had my understanding of the brief, the next problem I encountered was my set up and lighting up certain objects, in particular, I had a porcelain doll wearing white clothing and a dark brown set of clogs, I had difficulty lighting up both objects well as one item was far too dark and required a lot of light painting to light it up to a point you can see the detail in them, and the other was too so bright that with a lot of difficulty, no matter what I was doing, I was creating shadows on it or it was becoming far too exposed and the white in the doll had become so highlighted that it was completely out of place and took away from the doll itself.

I also had the problem of trying to align my images, but when I did this the first time, I realised I had stupidly used different photos from my shoot, photos where I had the same items but they weren’t exactly in the same place enough for the images to align correctly. Either I had nudged the tripod or the camera fell a little and moved out of position or simply me setting things up wrong, the images were different. This led to my first reshoot, I fixed things up and tried to align everything, but as the shoot went on, I began to alter the camera, zooming in or moving my set up a little, so again, I had the same problem, just not quite as bad.

Problem 3:

A problem many of my classmates experienced was the scratch disc issue. From what I remember, no one had informed us that this project will use up a lot of space on our computers and on our hard drives or whatever storage device we were using to save our work. I found out the hard way about this: after a Monday class, I had spent the entire day last week working on my project only to discover I couldn’t save it because the scratch disc was full. I’m on a college laptop too so I couldn’t just clear out the build in storage because I’m not an admin, so I had to arrange with my lecturers to get an extension as this problem occurred days before the deadline.

I reshot my images again that night as I realised that again, my images weren’t in line or the same, so I reshot my images and I tried again, but with the scratch disc issue, I couldn’t save my work but I was still trying to understand what exactly I was to do. I was working on very low opacity and flow, so I had to go over things numerous times to get a result, which was infuriating me as it was taking so long to get one tiny result. I admit, I got frustrated and angry, and with the deadline only days away, I was stressing out and panicking.

My solution:

I took a step back and I thought calmly about things. I had emailed my lecturer about getting an extension, and after showing I really was having technical issues, I was granted that extension. I decided, without letting my lecturers know, that I was completely scrapping the idea I had and doing a brand new shoot. An issue I had was that I had too many items, for me personally, to work with, so I was getting confused and lost 7 seven layers in, so I remembered Mark’s words on pretty much every project I’ve ever done since NQ: “Keep it simple”. Mark is an inspiration to me when it comes to my photography, so I always value his opinions on my work and any advice he has to give, but that advice has been one that has stuck with me since the beginning of NQ photography in 2019. Thanks to that, I was able to take a step back, think about what I wanted to do, and do my reshoot with a strong understanding on what I want out of this shoot.

What I wanted was to capture items that had strong significance to me, items that belonged to my gran, grandad and items relevant to me in my childhood. The items I chose involved a German music box belonging to my gran, a broken dolphin that once belonged to a wind chime and my gran, a broken and old necklace belonging to me, a silver heart that belonged to me also, a small Sonic the hedgehog toy, and a silver locket that was given to me when my grandad passed away a long time ago.

My set up has never changed: I placed my items inside an old suitcase, the suitcase had a faded pink lining that, when light shone on it, gave off a very nice design of light patterns. With the suitcase, I added a blanket that is older than myself, the blanket acted the “floor” of my sett, while the suitcase’s lining was the background itself.

Once I had placed my items, I began my shoot and I focused on keeping my image count low, it helped me to stop myself from going overboard as I have the tendency to leave a shoot, college related or personal, with over one hundred photos as I get carried away and then have to go through them all, one by one. So I restricted myself with my images, to avoid this but also so I wasn’t having more photos for photoshop to struggle with when saving my work. This restriction helped me to have a boundary for myself and once my shoot was done, I waited until Monday’s class, this week, to speak with Iain about how to avoid blurring in my photos when I put them together. He was a big help and made me realise, after so long of stressing about it.......that I can change the opacity and flow to what I want it to be. With one simple relapse, I made myself stress out so much, I had forgotten that I could change the opacity and flow to what suits me, and that night, I put together my image and it was a thousand times easier and I could see results happening and I was able to really think and make choices on where I felt was a good highlight or shadow to add into my final image.

I spent all of Monday night working on it, I planned on doing it until I began to get tired or fed up with a computer screen, but I was so determined to get this project over with that I powered through. I know it’s not good to overwork yourself, but my project was, despite my extension, three days later by that point and I hated not meeting my deadline. The week long extension gave me the time I needed to think and redo my entire shoot and keep it simple for myself, it gave me the time I needed to really plan out better what I want from the shoot and how to get it. So in that regard, I’m thankful for the extension as I really needed it so I could get a hard drive to save my work and so I could re-plan my shoot and be happy with it.

I was sure that I would need to redo or change my shoot when I was showing it to Mark today, I was being so harsh on myself thanks to stressing on the project since the day we were given the brief that I was convinced it looked terrible and wasn’t right. Hearing Mark confirm that I did a great job and made some good decisions made me realise “Hey, I actually did a good job here, I can see that, I can be proud of this”, I have diagnosed crippling anxiety and Aspergers syndrome, so my anxious thinking tends to really blow things out of proportion and I end up panicking and stressing far too easily, so hearing advice from lecturers about my work really helps me and I value every criticism I get as it’s always constructive and not intended to upset me. I let that zoom call feeling ecstatic because I finally finished my Recycle project and I made something I’m absolutely proud of. It took a lot of pain and suffering, but I pulled through, submitted my project and was finally able to forget about it and move onto Lost and Found.

But, while I had many drawbacks with this project, the Recycle brief really helped me to get a good understanding and relationship with photoshop and how it works. In NQ, we used photoshop for the basic use of editing our photos and learning about layer masks, which completely baffled and upset me because I didn’t understand them despite how much Heather explained it to me. HND has helped me a lot with photoshop and understanding, and with me really diving into research and watching tutorials on how it all works as I go, I picked up what tool does what. I still have no idea what most of the tools do, but I’m familiar with most of them enough now to the point I was able to use the tools on my own without a guide or anyone explaining to me on what to do, I was comfortable enough to change brush sizes, colours, to zoom in and out or to use the tools when I needed them. I had become more comfortable with photoshop when we did the Illusion brief, but Recycle has helped me to really understand and become more comfortable with the software to the point I made my own creations, non-college related, and was able to really see what I was able to create and that, with more learning, I can really make some creative masterpieces in the future.

This project also helped me to really think and plan out what one action will do to my shoot or the objects involved, for example, it helped me to think about the effects my flashlight would have on an object when I’m painting with light long before I do the action. I’m thankful for this brief in the way of helping me learn, but I will not miss it!

Things I would do differently

If given the opportunity, I would do many things differently, in particular, I would speak to my lecturers more for help and ask my questions about being confused, what exactly is being asked of me and how I’m to do it. Instead, I spent weeks stressing, worrying and losing sleep because I couldn’t understand how to do the project or what was asked of me, had I asked more questions when the opportunity was there, I could have saved myself the stress, but now I know it for future reference.

Another thing I would do differently is my planning, I did plenty of research on this brief for inspiration and tips, but I feel my planning wasn’t great, I had an idea and I tried to shoot it, but then I was thinking of other ways to shoot it and put it into action instead of sketching it up and really giving it some thought. So I would do that differently.

Another thing I’d like to do differently is to have attended more Tuesday advice classes, I was terrified to attend because of my anxiety and I was scared to speak one-on-one with Mark, through zoom, about my ideas and images. When I eventually did attend, I saw that there was nothing to worry about and it really does help me, so much so that now, unless I plan to shoot my location shots, I attend the Tuesday classes for feedback on my work and so I can find out where I went wrong or how to improve my image.

This brief showed me many things, but regarding myself, it showed me how much I stop myself from achieving my full potential, by letting fear and anxieties grip me, I stop myself from doing things I know will look or turn out great, I stop myself from interacting in class sessions or getting some helpful feedback from lecturers and I stop myself from getting the help I need to calm my worrying mind and be gentler on myself.

I learned a lot from this brief and while I am thrilled to have made something I’m so proud of...........I really hope we don’t get another project like it any time soon!

MY OPINION:

SociRobotic allows you to add multiple profiles from various platforms and schedule social media updates at your leisure or utilizing a queue with times that you set.

You can configure the listening stream to display whatever profiles/hashtags you desire at any given time. From the news feed, you can reply, assign posts, forward posts, retweet, and retweet with comments.

They can also integrate with sponsored adverts, although we don’t utilize them for that. I like that you can view an upcoming post calendar so I can know if there are any holes in our schedule.

The dashboard is simple to use and offers a variety of views, including a calendar, so you can see whether you have a lot of messages that need to be spaced out. The SociRobotic All-Stars Slack channel is another source of information and support.

SociRobotic also has incredibly detailed reporting for each platform, which has given me a better understanding of how our accounts and postings are performing. It’s been quite beneficial. I used to always forget to publish before, but this has made it much easier to prepare ahead!

TPN ch180

(spoilers! i'm so broken)

I didn't want to be right. I didn't want to actually believe that Emma was lying. If anything, I thought she was just lying about staying with her family when they crossed over to the human world, knowing she would be separated, but this.. oh my god. This girl knew ever since ch143 that she was going to lose her memories of her family and straight up lied to them about it. Granted, only a few days passed from when she returned from The 7 Walls up until they all crossed over to the human world, but still, I.. don't know how to feel. I knew since the prison break she had great acting skills so I'm impressed that she managed to pull off yet another wonderful performance, but wow.. I really hoped she wouldn't! To keep such an important and life changing secret from her family, who are all so important to her, I can't imagine how hard it must have been for her knowing this while dealing with the entire capital attack and GF plantation raid. Fighting so hard and succeeding in achieving a bright, happier future for everyone but herself.. ow, my heart.

Some people are fine with the memory loss, others aren't. If anything, at least she's the only one who forgot? I think it would've been worse if everyone else forgot about Emma instead, so having the promise only hurt her is fine.. well, it's not, clearly, but you get what I mean.

And if demon god wasn't on my nerves enough already, the little prat decides to basically photoshop every family member out of the photos Emma kept this entire time. I'm touched she still had the photos in her possession, but now this upsets me so much. Upon seeing the first set of raws and learning Emma lost her memories, I hoped that she could possibly remember them by looking back at these photos if she still had them. But no. Demon god doesn't want me to be happy or get my hopes up. It would've been such a cool idea though. We know Ray originally requested the camera because he needed to strobe for the taser, but he continued to take pictures, not only to keep up the act to prevent Isabella from getting suspicious, but to give said photos to Emma because he knew how important their family is to her. I would've loved it if something so important from the first couple arcs came back at the very end to help Emma regain her memories.

Not only that, but demon god also got rid of her id number? Like.. really? I don't know why that bothers me so much but it does. I know the id brands just proved that the kids were meant to be nothing but food. Of course I know that they're all so much more than that and I should be happy Emma lost hers, because it truly means she's free, but the number was a part of her you know? It would've been fine if every cattle child lost their identifier, but since it was only her it makes me think demon god wanted it to be that much harder for Emma to remember her past and family. That's what bothers me. That even now, after they all crossed over and don't have to deal with demons anymore, demon god still has the audacity ability to make Emma suffer. If she still had her number, I'm sure she would've questioned it, much like Ray did when he was younger (my mind thinks back to ch28, that one memory of him looking at his neck in a mirror). Maybe she would've realized that the people in her dreams also have the same neck numbers, if only faintly. (it must be so weird for Demizu to draw Emma now and not include her number after all this time)

That leads me to wonder if Emma has questioned the rest of her appearance yet. I would assume she's still missing her left ear, since her hair is still covering that side, so does she ever wonder about why it's missing? What about the scars on her body? We personally haven't seen them, but you can't tell me her back and abdomen looks perfect and clean after getting stabbed by Lewis. Yes I know, scars heal with time, but the scar on Lucas' face was still recognizable after 13 years. Same with Zack and his many unfading scars. So does Emma question where hers came from?

Moving on, a month passes and still no memories, however Musica's necklace seems to be the cause of Emma's vivid dreams, like it somehow brings life to her feelings. We see the necklace constantly, not only because Emma wears it, but on volume covers and other color pages as well. It's always been shown off as this important item and yet it hasn't really served a purpose yet. Emma recieved the necklace back in ch51 and the only thing its done so far was show her that one old vision at Cuvitidala in ch101. It'll be a real easy way to solve everything by having the necklace just conveniently bring back her memories, so I get why some people might not like the idea, but at this point I'd be fine with it.

Figures she would end up in the human world with someone who can sympathize with her pain. Old dude lost his family due to war but at least he can remember them. He asks if Emma would want to see her family, if they're alive, and she remains unsure and lost. She doesn't know who these dream people are to her, why they call out "Emma" or why it makes her feel better.

This panel.. this one right here is what breaks me. Our girl is so upset and she can't even understand why. We know why you're crying hun, it's because you miss your family. Your memories may have faded but your feelings for them still live on with you! I have no doubt that love you just as much too! My poor girl, someone send me her location so I can go and hug her!

Emma might have given up trying to remember who she was and live a new life, but if she did encounter her family again, I hope she would be excited to meet them as new people. Maybe they could all start over. Over time they could gently remind her of her past, and if Emma truly can't remember, I hope they'll accept her regardless.

And a name change? I'm.. mmm frustrated. Yeah it makes sense since she couldn't remember hers and would need a new one anyway, but aahh, really? No id identifier, no memories, no name; it's like she's a new character. I was never a fan of the amnesia trope, like she's such a great character and gets built up wonderfully, and now it's like you reset her to zero. Yeah I know, deep down she's still the happy go lucky girl we all know and love, who's strong and capable to still smile even now, but.. man, idk anymore. This whole chapter hurts me.

There's a dim light at the end of the tunnel because we get a glimpse of Ray, Gilda and.. at first I thought it was Don but that person is way too short, so Phil? Regardless, I gotta give them some credit. It may have been a couple months, (remember, old dude said he could't call for help until spring and there's flowers in the ground now) but they've already managed to find where she might be in this new, large world. Please, turn around though! She's so close to you guys, she's right there! Notice her antenna or something, I beg you!

Demon god said that even if Emma met her family, she wouldn't remember them, but I still have small hopes. Emma claim's she stopped having the dreams and given up trying to remember her past, but maybe that short amount of time believing in them was enough. Aside from the necklace which connected her feelings to her unconscious mind, the five sense can also recall memories. Perhaps if she heard her name now, outside of a dream, something in her mind will click. Maybe she would get that warm feeling again she once longed for. Sense of smell and taste are usually most effective in bringing back memories so maybe just being near them or having them cook for her could also help. I know the sense of touch usually works for when you personally touch something, but if it's possible to also recall memories by being touched, then please, for the love of god, let Ray pat Emma's head again! He's done it countless time over the years.. can you imagine if upon meeting and learning that she has no memories, Ray is just like "no worries, you're still the same Emma to us," and while he pats her head, she's like wait hold up, major deja vu, I feel like I felt something like that happened before. I'm probably only getting my hopes up real high with that idea (since old dude just patted her head and nothing) but bro.. I would honestly cry if something so simple and nostalgic as a head pat helps Emma remember her family even the tiniest bit.

And yes, I'm worried Norman isn't around. Please don't let me be right again by having him stay behind due to his health issues. Just let him be in another search group somewhere else okay? I'll accept that. It's odd he wouldn't be working alongside Ray but whatever, split your best minds up to create equally powerful teams, that's fine. It only worries me because now we might not get one last full-score trio hug like I originally hoped! I swear having a hug like that as the very last panel of the series would've been perfectly fine with me after everything that just happened. But now.. aahhh, we'll see.

I can't believe the series ends next week. There's still so much I want to see and know. I pray there's a happy ending for everyone. I want Emma with her family. I want her to remember them. I want one last full-score trio hug. Shirai, don't let us down! You played with my feelings so much within the past year, so please make all the stress and tears worth it! Give me an ending that will satisfy me so much that TPN replaces Black Lagoon as my favorite series! Go ahead, I dare you! Ya see that beautiful panel? Give that to us and not have it be a fantasy! (pretty please??)

Error managed to get into the Creator Realm, he brought the gang with him and they were looking for Maxie and her friends. Though that implied the creators wouldn’t find them first, which they did.

“Hello, hello, hello!” Maxie said, wrapping her arms around Error as he glitched and screamed.

“LET ME GO!” He screamed, and Maxie let him go with a pout.

“So, as Kiki said, we will be inhibiting your quest! Trials and tribulations to test how much you have actually grown to see if you actually deserve to know. Also we’re bored and want to mess with you.” Maxie said, and Error facepalmed.

“So, what do you want us to do?” Nightmare said, growling.

“Please Nightmare, nowadays your bark is worse than your bite. Anyway, we have a few obstacle courses, some logic puzzles, some PTSD triggers.” Maxie said, smiling evilly.

“What…?” Cross said, and Maxie raised an eyebrow.

“What?” Maxie said, and Cross facepalmed.

“Oh, no no no, I have only written a story about forest rangers. I would never torture Error. I am usually the one hissing in the comments to punish anyone who does hurt Error, I wish the hissing thing was a joke. Nightmare would kill me if I hurt Error, right? Getting killed by my second favorite Sans for hurting my first favorite Sans is not on my list pal.”

“Well, it seems we have a good noodle. Truly a rare find.” Error said, and Cross snickered.

“One, I’m flattered that you like me. Second, I’m glad you fear me.” Nightmare said, looking around for the voice.

“You won’t see them, from here on out, you’re in a little playground my friends and I made. Good luck.” Maxie said, snicking.

“Doesn’t matter. They would still beat us. We would have six, and the human has beat the photoshop abomination.” Sans said, and the others nodded. They had come over for a quick hang out.

“I love Gordan Ramsey! He’s awesome! He has no qualms about yelling at people for their awful crimes against food. And I am aware, trust me, I know how to use it.” Horror said, winking.

“May I hug all the dark sanses or would that cross a line? You all deserve all the love the megaverse can give you. I know what it feels like to be trapped, alone, and hurt in so many ways, I know what it is like to feel out of option and angry. You don't deserve that, despite everything you are all wonderful.”

“I’d love a hug!” Cross said and felt the hug, though no presence was seen.

“Can I have a hug?” Horror asked and was given a hug.

“I’m good.” Killer said, and everyone else nodded.

I have only ever played the pacifist route myself and can't bring myself to watch an actual playthrough cause I can't watch my beloved monster friends get killed, but it is a catchy song. “What the fuck?” Killer said, nearly everyone had the same reaction.

“You voices are weird.” Stretch said, lighting another cigarette.

“No more. That’s your third, I’ll burn the pack if you smoke another.” Blue said and Stretch groaned.

“I don’t beg! I was just scared at first and knew I couldn’t break the script! And in case you didn’t hear, I have literally done everything.” Flowey said, rolling his eyes.

The annoying dog yipped, he was glad he wasn’t murdered too. He kicked his stumpy legs and wagged his tail as he flew off to Papyrus, who had a feeling of foreboding and anxiety.

“YOU STUPID CANINE!” Papyrus declared as he tried to run while missing his femur. The dog smiled as the song echoed through the Underground and the dog smiled an innocent smile.

“So here is a question to the Sans personality types, why do you lie to your brother about their food? You're not helping them, it would be far kinder to be honest and help them learn to be better. Someday they are likely to meet someone who will not let them down gently and will hurt them.”

“Implying we can. They either run out the door before we can talk or we have to try talking over them.” Sans said.

“Impossible in many AUs, plus, it’s actually good half the time.” Outer said, and Red nodded, glaring at Swapfell as he was ogling Blue from a distance.

“Dream, what is it like being with your brother again? How is your guys brotherly bond affected by well everything that happened?”

“It’s awesome. We have fun and prank some unsuspecting Sanses every now and then. As people seem to forget for the longest time, we were mistaken for fey. And we didn’t help those accusations.” Dream said, “Though we never hurt anyone. Just harmless things like a pie going missing or flowers vanishing into thin air.” Dream snickered, he was back in the Doodlesphere by this point and reviewing paperwork.

“Boys how do you feel about Uncle Dreamy?”

“Don’t.” Killer said.

“No.” Cross said, eyes blank as he shook his head, everyone else was silent as they shook their heads and cringed.

“frisk how is murdering everyone one fun after all i dont think you enjoy getting repeatedly killed plus since you reset so many times you know everything that happens underground besides there are more things to murder in surface ps you didnt answer if you got to the surface on genocide”

“I like to see the dust fall, them scream in pain, and beg for mercy. It’s cute. And yes, I can murder more things on the surface, but they don’t turn to dust or give the, for lack of a better term, high I need. And I don’t get to the surface, only if I spare everyone do I get there. And before you ask, in neutral runs I’m in a limbo state, have to RESET to leave.” Frisk said, smiling as their eyes glowed red.

“frisk what about napstablook or mad dummy you can't kill either”

“I can kill Glad Dummy, and Napstablook is worthless. I don’t wanna waste my time on them.” Frisk spat, growling as they left the ruins, stepping over Toirel’s dust.

“You know what is cute? all the baby bones art of you guys. Awww why is every baby sans just so huggable? Ok ok but really baby Error! just picture a tiny baby Error and tell me that shit is not cute.”

“They’re very cute.” Nightmare said.

“But they didn’t show us any.” Killer said and Nightmare froze.

“Oh.” Error said, and Nightmare turned into a puddle out of shame.

“And payback time, Nightmare, any stories about Dream?”

Springing back to life Nightmare donned a wicked and demonic grin. “Dream didn’t know what a bed was until he was 100. And it took three people to pry him off of it.” Nightmare said.

“That’s actually sad. How long did you sleep in a tree?” Cross asked and Nightmare whistled.

“Our whole lives before the apple incident. Up until then we only slept in a bed seven times each.” Nightmare said, and Cross gave him a teary hug.

“dust how come your a bad guy you were forced to kill everyone your not a bad person if someones a bad person its the human and chara”

“First of all, Chara is only a problem because of Frisk, so they aren’t as guilty as you think. Though they are not innocent. And no one wanted to befriend a killer, sure they like Red, but it’s the culture. And Ink played his cards right so I couldn’t make things worse for him, there’s a reason he didn’t stop Nightmare from helping me.” Dust said, “Same goes for everyone else.” He finished and everyone nodded.

“Hold on a sec, contacts? How do contacts work with eyelights? I don't understand...”

“Magic.” Error said, and Maxie snickered.

“So, let’s begin the challenges!” She said and they were separated and thrown into a version of Snowdin.

“Where are we?!” they cried out, looking around but Maxie laughed.

“Welcome to your first challenge! Can you handle the Star Sanses all by yourself? Only one of you has to win for all of you to proceed, and the battles will be scaled so you are evenly matched.” Maxie’s voice echoed through the area, but she was not seen.

“Maxie. What are you doing?” Jana asked, accompanied by Beatrice.

“Having a bit of fun. What are you doing?” Maxie said, smiling innocently.

“Are you seriously messing with them?” Jana said, shaking her head in disapproval.

“You didn’t raise any concern when Jack, Zack, and I were talking about our plan. So why are you looking at me like that?” Maxie said, and the two sighed.

“Because we want to help. But only to an extent.” Jana said, and Maxie was intrigued.

“To what extent I may ask?” Maxie wondered, smiling.

“If you trigger their PTSD or do anything relating to Ink, we’re out and we will tell them who Error was.” Beatrice said, and Maxie shrugged.

“Sure. It’s a deal.” She said, holding out her hand as Beatrice shook it.

“We’re still going to Jack’s for pizza right?” Maxie asked, changing the subject.

“Hell ya. I’m bringing garlic knots.” Beatrice said and Maxie's eyes lit up.

“I have long admitted to spiking the eggnog at that party. And I haven’t spiked anything since. No one seems to believe me!” Blue said, grumbling as his eyes turned to small broken hearts as tears filled his eyes.

“Sure.” Stretch said, and Blue glared, some glitches popping up.

“to sci and alphys is it possible to turn flowey back into asriel.”

“Without 7 human souls, I don’t think we can. We’ve looked into it, just to see if it was possible. He may be ok with staying as Flowey, with the exception of the pacifist run, but others in his situation aren’t. So we looked at his code to see if it was hypothetically possible, and it isn’t.” Sci said, sipping coffee.

“Yeah, h-honestly, I was h-hoping that we could. I-I regret i-it so much. I-I wanted to see i-if I could help others. B-but this is i-irreversible.” Alphys said, ringing her hands.

“It broke Toriel and Asgore’s hearts. Though, they would respect Flowey’s wishes if he didn’t want to, he is still a person whose opinions should be listened to. Even if he is a jackass.” Sci said and Alphys nodded.

“sanses how do you guys stop genocide routes from starting since you said there were very few”

“We don’t. They just stop, and then they start up again. Like wet and dry seasons, only more sporadic.” Classic said.

“Some worlds, like mine, don’t have as many, the way the world works kinda discourages it.” Red said, and Swapfell nodded.

“frisk what was the strangest interaction you have had with someone in the underground”

“Gaster. He is so mysterious and strange. I wonder what his deal was, but I never can find out. I’ve met his followers and such, but I’ve never heard him speak, and I’m assuming the person I saw was Gaster!” Frisk said, they were somewhere in Snowdin forest, marking down words on their arm.

“HorrorLustFell.” Cross said, “I took a month-and-a-half break after that to recover.” Cross said, raiding Grillby’s and the shops for armor, supplies, and food.

Everyone gave similar responses.

“Who all is helping with the search? everyone or just the gang?”

“Just us. Everyone knows what we’re doing and they’re willing to help if we need it.” Error said, shrugging as he made himself a swing and began to swing.

“Sans, do you want to talk?” Papyrus asked, and Sans was gone.

“I knew he had problems, but if someone can deduce that? Wow.” Toriel said, holding her hand over her mouth.

“We have several therapists available.” Outer said, “The hard part is getting him to see one. And I know I’m a hypocrite.” Outer said, shrugging.

“You are correct, space Sans.” Papyrus said, “I just wish he could talk about it.” Papyrus said.

“I mostly wanna see what paps has to say about his brother hiding his mental health problems.”

“I knew he had issues, but I want him to talk to me, I know it’s hard to talk about your mental health problems, but it’s been five years. Though he has suffered far worse than any of us, if the Dark Sanses are anything.” Papyrus said.

“I’m going to stall Frisk, Toriel, you need to get out of here. Frisk will be getting here soon.” Papyrus said and everyone dashed out of the house.

“Have the sans ever had to have an intervention for any of the other sans, like Blueberries alcohol problem?”

“I have no problem first of all. And secondly, we have had to have interventions.” Blue said, “Black had a drug addiction a while back, and we are trying to get Papy to stop or reduce his smoking habits.” Blue said and Stretch sighed.

“At least I’m working on it.” Stretch said, and Blue nodded.

“oh i'm just teasing him, cause I love him.”

“Thank you!” Blue said, smiling.

“frisk has there ever been a timeline in which the annoying dog didn't take the legendary artifact and if it wasn't taken what does the artifact do”

“I have never gotten the artifact.” Frisk said, Papyrus and Sans coming into view.

“to error how much exp did ink get you?”

“Quite a bit. The number escapes me, but it was in the hundreds.” Error said, swinging.

“flowey at the end of the pacifist timeline you decide to give up the souls and break barrier once the barrier was broken you could have easily murdered more humans and get to be a goat again so why kill a few for their souls?”

“Timelines never last that long, and when I turn back, it leaves an impact on me that makes it hard to be a jerk for a while. Residual effects of being that whiny crybaby.” Flowey said, “And it wouldn’t change anything.” Flowey said, wilting a bit.

“Fresh, tell me about your furby collection? I miss mine. I had 3, they always said they were hungry last at night when I was falling asleep... it was kinda creepy.”

“I have a version of every Furby ever made. 3 is pathetic yo. Though they are demanding and creepy sometimes, I’ll give ya that brah.” Fresh said, looking around as snow fell around him.

“What are you guys doing to find Error's origin anyway?”

“We were going to ask the creators what they knew, since none of Killer, Dust, or Horror’s code could help us and Error’s code is a mess on account of him being a glitch, then we’d go from there, asking questions and making guesses based on what we knew.” Nightmare said, “For all we know Error could be from one of the many neutral timelines, and that wouldn’t pin anything down at all.” Nightmare said.

“Blue, how do you hide your glitches? That seems like a very hard thing to explain to people you don't want knowing about the multiverse.”

“Dream made a small illusion charm with Sci and Alt’s help that makes me look normal. It’s also pretty!” Blue said as he held up a golden charm in the shape of a blueberry, it was attached to a gold chain that was hidden by his battle body.

“Have the rest of the Sans seen Error in his glasses? I need to see them all squirm at how cute he is!”

“Only Blue and Classic have seen him in his glasses. Other than us of course.” Killer said, “I helped make the frames, and the way his eyes lit up when he could clearly see for the first time, it was the best feeling in the world. I remember taking care of Pap, it felt like that.” Killer said, and he smiled at the memory.

“How does Dream feel about being an uncle now? Is he a FUN Uncle?”

“I’m not really considered an uncle per say, but I do try to be fun. And it is fun to say that I am technically the Dark Sanses’ uncle, they have the funniest reactions.” Dream said, laughing.

“Error am I embarrassing you too much?”

“Yes.” Error said, still swinging.

Every time l saw that it was so weird, l finally figured they were just acting like she was someone. Fast forward a few years, only to find out it was madam😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂. I venture to say, most Canadians seeing that tv advert had NO CLUE who she was😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣!!

Believe it or not, l have never seen Forrest Gump? Charles Champion

Charles has many causes to Champion, however he and a Camilla are due back from their tour, he was in a India, she joined him for Australia and New Zealand. The tour was successful however almost complete overshadowed by events on the home front, politically debates and family issues. He was extremely pleased to share the Princes Trust going global. He really has done extremely well and he is never bragging about it. He’s so quietly gentle, love him.

He looks at her and say, but if a week old thing, then says hugs because he isn’t comfortable and doesn’t dare want to give her his cold. A foot man arrives after the cord has been pulled. They ask fir a large sherry for HMTQ and a large Malt for himself. They will toast one another and quietly sharing time together drinking and remembering, also full of the pain of the occurring of the present day. Tears now rolling down both faces………..my heart is truly broken for them…….

Prince Charles has been on a long tour whilst the home fire are quite literally burning!! He has three days in the Solomon Islands and give or take a time zone he will be back in London mid week or so. However, he has been involved in the very critical decisions that have been made as has HMTQ and William. When he returns , there will be a readjustment to the new situation but l can’t see any hiatus, or time off, for him at all.

The NATO leadership will be meeting in London, this is from the official press release, all along l thought the NATO banquet was a December 4/2019 read this “The United Kingdom will host NATO Heads of State and Government in London, on 3-4 December 2019.The NATO Leaders Meeting, chaired by the NATO Secretary General, will take place at the Grove Hotel, Hertfordshire on 4 December 2019. An evening event at Buckingham Palace will take place on 3 December 2019, for which there will be a separate process for media access.

I am not certain if the press had got it wrong or l have had it wrong for quite some time now. Russia is not a NATO member. However back in 2002 they were part of a Russia-NATO council, however that was dissolved when Ukraine was invaded. Is Vladimir Putin going to be in London, meeting with HMTQ, surely not attending any NATO gatherings.

This clue certainly is giving the strong idea that he may be invited to the banquet. My understanding is Russia has wanted the dissolution of NATO however, maybe there are negotiations behind the scenes?? Extremely interesting times we are living in!

It really sounds like both girls are devastated but especially since Beatrice is engaged and was written to strongly encourage PA to do the interview, that was in the paper a few days, and Fergie also. Andy, Charles and Clarence

Charles and Andrew will have a one to one very heated meeting at Clarence House, where the Duke and a Duchess reside and also have their official offices. PC has been on an extended tour, India, New Zealand, Australia, Tuvalu, Solomon Islands, due to return home today. There were volcanic eruptions of things happening on the home front whilst they were away and he had to discuss and make decisions very likely through FaceTime or something similar. He will have a meeting with PA and l am very certain it will be a heated exchange. Will be interesting, if as rumoured, the decision to strip his HRH status, all with no charges. We shall we observers if PC first major incident other than madam in his heir to the monarch status even higher now as HMTQ has handed so much over to him and PW.

We do know our Catherine has always been athletic and lithe, but comments are more and more , how thin she has become, this phrase, pencil thin,goes way back to my childhood when people still used pencils🤣🤣🤣😂😂. Who is voicing this comment and should we be concerned. I hate Diana comparisons. Everyone copes with stresses differently however l wouldn’t howl from the rooftops just yet. She’s fine, ore than, stunning, gorgeous, excellent mother, partner and working Royal. She just spent a couple of days working in the maternity. I know she gets terribly ill in her first trimester with each child. Sometimes women get ‘baby fever’. My niece is a maternity nurse,they thought they were done their family with the boys they had. Well baby fever rolled in and thank God it did because they have the sweetest girl God ever made, l love that child more than my own life!

This looks fun, the Cambridge children at an exposition as we call them in Canada or expo for short. Others call them fairs or amusement parks. Will this be the Christmas video gift we will get to see? Or are they planning a winter holiday? I cannot fathom them at Disney WORKD or Universal, the security would be impossible unless they shut it down for them, but where’s the fun in that? Quite frankly, l enjoyed the video of the riding their bikes. I love seeing them do the ordinary things every child should be able to do.its marvellous, they are a wonderful family. The television show The Crown airs on Netflix. I have never seen it. Reports and comments say there are quite the liberties taken with the truth. The current actor portraying HMTQ is Olivia Colman, academy award winner last year, is not doing as good a job as a Claire Foy, the previous actor.l read about things but don’t have the patience to watch. Apparently she plays HMTQ angrily’ , is what l have read. However, l do believe what isn’t known about HMTQ is and would far more complex and interesting than any television show.

Script is the writing for the speaking part of a play, film, tv show etc. Script can be a manner of writing, the font, is there some new engraving being added to the crown? I read the crackers for Christmas, HMTQ has bespoke ones for each family, some have gold crowns and some silver, l do believe there are inscriptions on each, hence crown script!

Was Harry involved in today’s event? Did he rush in to help? Or help a by-stander. Prince Harry was an Apache pilot and worked in Intelligence whilst serving in Afghanistan. This applies to each of us, a basic life lesson. Law enforcement in London was repeatedly saying today, if you see anything suspicious call them. Look, Listen, and Learn is also a trained learning of audio-visual correspondence, basically videos with sound,ie voicemail, FaceTime, Skype, text, imessage, etc etc as opposed to other embeddings, like plans for bombs hidden inside of a painting, a lot of ultra secret manners to embed data. requiring labeled intelligence. Is this the manner of monitoring of madam and other persons of interest? Is this how incriminating information was obtained allegedly by individuals at the SewHoe Farm? And other SewHoe places?

black fry-day

Today is Black Friday, started in America the day following their Thanksgiving, the first day officially to Christmas shop with sales galore. It has gone global! It’s madness, queuing up at 0300 to buy a tv!! Here we have black fry- day, what’s being fried? Or who?

Fry can means destroy and one wears black when in mourning. Both are directly a result of the horror that happened in London today. Lives lost, families destroyed, people traumatized and retraumatized. This was definitely one black Friday!

We have had several clues in succession on what l believe this to be. I do believe Harry has found someone during this horror time with madam. It would explain her rages when she cannot find him, putting out the PR that he was missing and his family was worried sick. We have not Harry for awhile. Next l believe will be NATO greeting and then the NATO banquet on December 3/2019. Sounds like Sandringham may be a nice secluded place for them to spend time together. And just as yesterday’s riddle said, this speaker is also giving a ringing endorse,ent if her!

Kids this was an extremely challenging riddle. I seem to be losing my abilities to interpret them. This is my best go. I hope at least some of it is helpful. It truly is me giving 110% effort.

Illustrations: Adobe.

Today marks the start of Adobe MAX, Adobe’s annual conference for creative professionals. Every year, MAX is jam-packed with announcements about Adobe’s many products.

If you’ve been following along the past few years, the rise of the company’s mobile apps has been an unmistakable trend at MAX. Adobe has made apps for the iPhone and iPad for years, but with the launch of Photoshop for iPad in late 2019, it became clear that the company intends to play as big a role on the iPhone and iPad as it has for decades on the Mac. Instead of building companion apps for its powerful desktop apps, Adobe seems intent on building apps that let creative professionals move seamlessly from the desktop to the iPad and iPhone and back again.

Given the complexity of Adobe’s desktop apps, building something comparable on the iPad or iPhone is a tall order that takes time. Photoshop for iPad didn’t start out with nearly all the features users rely on when they use the desktop version, but with a monthly release cycle, Adobe has chipped away at the pain points, bringing the two apps closer together over time. The same goes for apps like Lightroom, which photographers rely on for editing images they take. The iPad versions of Adobe’s apps haven’t reached feature parity with the desktop, but the gap is closing, enabling users to work in new ways and in a wider variety of contexts.

This year the announcements at MAX are no different. I’ve tried all of the apps discussed below that Adobe is releasing or updating for the iPad and iPhone this year to one degree or another, including spending the past few weeks using the beta version of Adobe’s latest pro iPad app, Illustrator. My artistic skills don’t do Illustrator justice, but from what I’ve seen from my testing the past few weeks and demos by Adobe, Illustrator is a remarkably powerful vector drawing app that takes a truly innovative approach to the app that should still be familiar to desktop users, but is designed first and foremost around touch interactions. Adobe has also released Fresco for the iPhone and some substantial new features to both Photoshop and Lightroom.

Let’s take a look at what’s coming for the iPad and iPhone at Adobe MAX.

Illustrator for iPad

Illustrator on the iPad is Adobe’s popular desktop vector drawing app reimagined for the iPad and Apple Pencil. The app integrates with Adobe’s Creative Cloud service, allowing users to do their work from any device.

Adobe has created a context-aware interaction model that, coupled with the same touch shortcut UI first seen in Photoshop for iPad with the Apple Pencil, provides a rich and flexible set of tools for illustrators. The breadth and depth of tools and options Adobe offers comes with an initial learning curve. However, Adobe has wisely provided a set of tutorials and ways to learn from others that make it easy to learn the basics, so you can start experimenting on your own.

Illustrator includes a large set of template image sizes to start your work, or you can create a custom one yourself. You can start with a blank canvas or import files using the system document picker, your device’s camera, your photo library, Adobe’s Creative Cloud storage, or any library of objects you’ve previously saved. For example, when used in conjunction with Photoshop for iPad, Illustrator can open your Photoshop files, preserving the layers so they can be individually manipulated in Illustrator.

The app’s new iPad version includes a pen tool for tapping out the points along a vector path and dragging to adjust them. There’s also a Pencil tool that allows you to draw smooth vector curves freehand. Of course, you can draw out shapes, add text, make the text follow a path, and a whole lot more.

I don’t have a lot of experience with Illustrator on the Mac, but as I played with it on the iPad, I opened the desktop version as a point of reference. There are many more tools and options on the desktop, but the iPad felt so much more natural to me as a beginner than using a trackpad or mouse. Of course, there are desktop tablets by Wacom and others that make using Illustrator on a desktop a more direct-input experience, but I’ve been impressed at how fun it has been to explore the app on an iPad with an Apple Pencil.

Besides the direct manipulation of vectors that the iPad enables, Adobe has done an excellent job contextualizing Illustrator’s tools. When you select an object, a common action menu appears below it with the tools you’ll need most often. The exact set of tools that appear depend on what you’ve selected. For example, the tools for editing text differ from the tools provided for vector paths.

In many cases, dragging up or down over a button in the common action menu adjusts the setting immediately. For example, dragging over the layers button moves the selected object up or down through your image’s layer hierarchy. Likewise, dragging over the stroke width button adjusted the stroke’s width, making it thicker or thinner with a swipe. You can also tap the common action menu buttons to reveal slider controls when they’re available.

The touch shortcut circle that is always available onscreen is used to modify actions of the tools you’re using, similar to what happens if you use modifier keys on a keyboard. For example, touching the shortcut as you use the tool to draw an ellipse constrains it to a circle.

The toolbar on the right side of the screen provides you with a deep set of additional tools to manage layers, adjust object properties, combine shapes, edit objects, and manipulate vector paths and fonts. However, my favorite tool in the toolbar is the Repeat tool that lets you take a selected object and repeat it radially, in a grid pattern, or mirror it. The tool is incredibly smooth on the iPad and includes drag handles on the selected pattern that allow you to adjust the number of repeated objects, spacing, and other variables to get the exact look you want. It’s also worth noting that there are over 18,000 fonts available in Illustrator for iPad, all of which can be adjusted in a wide variety of ways.

If you’re new to Illustrator like me, there’s a lot to absorb when you first open the app. However, the combination of in-app tutorials that provide an explanation of what each tool does, and more in-depth videos in the Learn and Discover sections of Illustrator, make it easy to get up to speed quickly. I’ve barely scratched the surface of what’s possible during the beta period, but Illustrator for iPad is an excellent first step that I look forward to spending more time with over the winter.

Photoshop for iPad

Adobe has also announced an update for Photoshop for iPad. It’s been almost one year since Photoshop was released for the iPad, and in that time, the app has been updated multiple times, addressing many of the initial criticisms by filling in missing functionality.

The latest update includes a new gear button in the Properties panel for editing an image’s size. The tool does more than simply stretch the image. There are multiple ways Photoshop can resample an image to ensure its original fidelity is preserved when it’s enlarged or shrunken. This is a feature that could come in handy when enlarging older small images I sometimes need for stories. My testing of this feature has been very limited, but so far, I’ve been pleased with the results of the handful of images I’ve tried.

Photoshop is also adding livestreaming via Behance, which is available when you tap the export button. It’s a lot like Twitch, but for watching artists work in Adobe’s apps.

Lightroom

Yesterday, Lightroom was also updated with several features. The app includes a new color grading tool found in the Properties panel that allows you to adjust the color of shadows, midtones, and highlights separately. There’s a new versioning tool, too, that works automatically in the background, making it easy to roll back changes. The feature also allows for manual versions, providing peace of mind before you embark on changes you know you may regret later.

My favorite new Lightroom feature is Best Photos, which uses AI to pick a subset of images from an Album that it thinks are among your best shots. No AI is going to be perfect at curating your photos for you, but if you have a lot of images from a trip or other event, it’s a great way to quickly find a handful you want to share without swiping through dozens or even hundreds of images.

Like Photoshop and Illustrator, Lightroom includes Adobe’s Learn and Discover features for finding tutorials, livestreams, and inspiration for your photography. Lightroom also lets you follow your favorite photographers who can share their work and how their edits were applied, which can be downloaded as Lightroom presets if shared by the photographer.

Lightroom is another app that I prefer to use on my iPad, where I can directly manipulate images. It is also becoming a terrific place to learn from other photographers, which makes for an engaging experience even when you’re not working on your own images. It helps, too, that the Learn and Discover features are curated by Adobe, so the quality level is superior to a lot of what you’d find simply searching on YouTube.

Fresco for iPad and iPhone

Adobe has added seven charcoal pencils and an all-new iPhone version of Fresco.

Fresco, which is Adobe’s drawing and painting app, added seven smudgeable charcoal brushes with its latest update, a feature which the company says was one of its users’ top requests. Brushes in the update can include multiple colors too, which Adobe says is a first. You can sample a multi-color image and apply the colors to any of the app’s brushes. Adobe has also added text support, a view for adjusting the pressure sensitivity of your tools, versioning, commenting on shared images, and the ability to create high-resolution timelapses of your work.

Adobe has also released the full version of Fresco on the iPhone. I haven’t had a chance to use Fresco extensively yet, but the charcoal pencils have a very natural feel, and Adobe has done a lot of interesting things on the iPhone version to keep UI out of the way when you’re focused on a drawing. That’s important given the limited canvas size, even on the biggest of iPhones. I’m interested to see what a skilled artist will be able to do with Fresco on an iPhone.

My day-to-day needs for Adobe’s suite of apps are fairly modest, which is one of the reasons I like the iPad versions so much. By getting started with them from the earliest releases, when the feature sets are a little more limited, I’ve had more success learning them than I ever did on the desktop. At the same time, I don’t feel like the features have been compromised versions of what’s available on the Mac. In the months since Photoshop for iPad was released, I’ve found uses for it in my workflows throughout the year and picked up new skills along the way. The same was true when I started using Lightroom, which is the Adobe app I use most on my Mac too.

I’m excited about Illustrator. I’m not sure what I’ll use it for yet, but sometimes just messing around in a new app with no end goal in mind is enough. Adobe’s apps provide tools that fuel creativity, and the experience of using them on the iPad is an incredibly natural and immediate experience that I highly recommend giving a try if you’ve ever been curious about Adobe’s Creative Suite but been intimidated by its desktop apps.

Office Cohorts

fluff // There’s trouble bubbling up at work

With a screech, the chair in front of you was pulled up. You kept your face pointed down at your laptop, but your eyes didn’t dare take themselves away from the intruder who’d now sat down and placed his files and cup down. You waited for him to say something, better yet, stand up and sit at the other empty tables.

“Do you mind if I sit here?” He asked.

You inwardly scoffed. What was the point in asking when he’d already become well acquainted with the seat?

“Sure.” You finally said.

A few seconds passed in which you typed on your laptop whilst his eyes flickered from his files then to his phone and back to your face in an almost rabid manner, like an over-excited puppy of sorts. Refusing to engage with him, you kept your eyes glued down to the screen.

He cleared his throat and you involuntarily looked up, then chastised yourself when you saw his eyes practically gleam, this was his opening for a conversation and you’d stupidly given it to him.

“Which department are you in?” He asked.

“Marketing.”

“Cool, so is it all like designing stuff for the campaigns?” He asked. “I’m from the IT department, well not really since im an intern but basically right.”

You should’ve guessed he was an intern, that childish curiosity and excitement screamed fresh out of university. Plus he looked the part as well.

“Something like that.”

“Cool.”

You hummed in response and he, likewise. The atmosphere quickly shifted to a silence which could’ve been comfortable one if it wasn’t for the person sat in front of you. Still, you concentrated on your work and hurried on considering your break was nearing its end. Yes, you were working on your break but deadlines were deadlines.

Looking at the time on your phone, you closed your laptop and cleared your throat. He looked up expectantly.

“Well, I’ll be going now. It was nice talking,” you said, standing up.

“Likewise, I hope we’ll see each other around.” He said, smiling wide.

You gave him a fleeting smile and stalked off with your laptop and empty cup in hand. Too bad you weren’t going to see him, and if the universe was truly on your side, you’d be granted the power of being able to avoid him. If there was one thing you couldn’t stand it was the preppy interns, but thank god they cooled down after a few months at the job.

“And for winter 2017, we’ve projected a 21% increase in sales when this ad for this collection does run,” You said, pressing the clicker for the next slide, but the screen was frozen. You pressed the clicker a few more times but still, the screen was unmoving.

You silently cursed as you leant down to fiddle with the button on your laptop. You could feel the … eyes of the board members digging into you as you fretted over your slide. It was supposed to room smooth for heaven’s sake, you’d been preparing for this project for a good month and now, things were playing up.

“Uh, well, seems as though my computer does not want to comply,” you said, plastering a board smile on your face. “We’ll continue with the presentation.”

Foot daring to shake, and stomach dwelling in the deep depths of your body, you continued with the presentation, reciting the tidbit you’d memories from spending hours on this project. The presentation seemed to go slower than the hour it had been said to end.

The moment each board men shuffled out of the meeting room, you breathed a sigh of relief and you could’ve keeled over if it wasn’t for the open seat. You cursed your laptop and all technology as you gulped down the untouched bottle of water.

Having calmed down the last waves of nerves, you stalked out of the meeting and to your office. The moment you sat down, you opened your laptop and still, the screen was frozen. You moved the mouse around, nothing. While the presentation has gone, you still needed your laptop so you exited your office and beelined towards the most technological friend you had at the office.

“Yixing,” your voice was sickly sweet as you leant over his cubicle.

Noticing you, he took his earphones out and sighed. “What?”

“I need your help,” you said.

“I’m busy,” he said, with a ghost of a smirk. “Really busy in fact. Almost too busy.”

You peered at his screen, Spotify was open and in the task bar was Photoshop, clearly deserted. “Busy? Sure. That poster is being completed huh?”

“If I help you will you go?” he asked.

You nodded, “Of course. I just need you to do your magic on my laptop. This junk decided to fail me on presentation.”

His eyebrows rose up, “During presentation or before?”

Reliving the event, you sighed. “During. It just froze on me and I looked like a headless chicken who doesn’t know how to operate a laptop.”

Grimacing, he took the laptop from your hands and opened it. “Tell me you managed to get through it?”

“I did,” you said. “I wanted to kill myself, but I did it.”

He hummed in response as his fingers tapped the keys, “Good to know but… I don’t think I can save your laptop. It’s probably a problem with the driver and I don’t want to be responsible when your things get wiped out.”

“You’re kidding right?” you said. “I need to do work when I get home.”

“Go to IT.”

“IT?”

He nodded. “Yes IT. That small department where they fix computers.”

And so, you found yourself, broken laptop in hand taking the lift down to the second floor. You walked through the hallway leading to the IT office, weaving past faces you’d seen for the first time in your five years of working here.

Your entrance caused a few heads to look up, you’d guess it was because hardly anyone comes here, IT always went to the people. The room was filled with computers, some stacked in a far corner and other technological things of a similar nature.

There was a larger desk in near the window, headed by a man with a worn face and equally worn out hair. He looked like the manager.

“Hi, sorry to be a bother, but I need your help with my laptop,” you said. “It froze on me and someone said it might be a problem with one of the drivers.”

He looked up from his screen, “Uh, I can’t right now, little lady.”

You grimaced at the nickname he’d given you. “But I really need this fixed, It’s really important.”

“I get it, but I can’t just help you. Listen, how about I get one the other guys to do it?” he said. “Uh, Baekhyun!”

“Yes sir?”

You turned around just at the moment, you saw him spring up from his chair. You immediately recognised him, it as the guy from the cafe, the one you’d met last month and wished you’d never see again. And judging from his smile, he’d be probably wishing for the opposite.

“Come ere’,” The manager said. “I need you to fix this lady’s laptop,” he looked to you, “And you just tell him what the problem is. He’s a smart one so he’ll fix it in no time.”

“Well, alright,” you said.

“Wanna come round to my desk?” Baekhyun asked.

You nodded and followed him towards his desk. You inwardly groaned at the haphazard nature of his desk. Trinkets were littered across the white desk, little toys and stickers. Noticing your eyes, he shifted a few objects to the side as he sat down.

“Laptop?” he asked.

“Oh, sorry,” you handed him the laptop.

“No problem,” he said with a small chuckle. “So what’s the problem with it?”

“It froze up and I can’t get it to work. My friend said it might be the driver or something, but I have no clue what it is.”

“Hm, I see. If it’s that simple I can probably get it done by the end of the day,” he said.

You breathed a sigh of relief, “Good, I need it done by today.”

He nodded, “Before you go, I need your email address.”

You couldn’t keep the surprise and maybe anguish off your face, God could he be more forward. “My email?”

He looked confused, “yes…your email. The company one. I’m gonna need to email you when I’m done or if there’s an issue.”

“Oh, I see,” You picked a pen and scribbled your work email onto a blank piece of paper. You willed the heat from your face to die down, it was embarrassing enough getting flustered by an intern. “Yeah, just drop me one when you’re done.”

With a parting exchange of smiles, you leave the IT office and go back to your own department. As you sit at your own office and desk, your mind wandered back towards Baekhyun the intern. If all was well, you’d just grab your laptop and be on your merry way but something inside you to that it wouldn’t be the last time you saw him. As annoying as that was. To keep yourself from thinking about that poor sod, you concentrated on the stacks of reports you had to go over.

By the time you’d worked through half of them, it was an hour till you clocked off and your mind had been imprinted with numbers, it was as though you could only think in numbers.

Taking a much-deserved rest, you reclined your chair, just as your eyes had closed, you heard a ping from your phone. Groaning, you dug your phone from your front pocket.

1 NEW EMAIL: [email protected]

Hi, just finished work on your laptop. You can come and pick it up :).

You opened up the app and quickly typed a response. Omitting a smiley face of course. You, on the other hand, were professional.

When you did go and pick your laptop up, Baekhyun wasn’t there which really should have been a positive point but you’d at the last leg of the work day, you’d kind of wanted to see one happy face. But that was all it was. Stuck on the cover was a neon yellow post, written in surprisingly neat handwriting was a small note telling you that there shouldn’t be any more issues and if there was, you could just email him.

You’d walked out of the IT Office with the intent of throwing the note in the nearest bin, but you’d carried the small note even when you’d reached your apartment. Absentmindedly of course.

A/N - lol, this was supoosed to be a lot longer than i’ve written but uh…i’m a lazy person so this is it. It was really supposed to be the first chapter to a ‘kimi wa petto’ inspired series.

Month 12: Professional Practice

In the last 12 months we as a class have covered a great deal of material and completed a whole lot of tasks. It’s pretty remarkable all that has happened in the last year. I was skeptical about having enough time to do this MDMFA program and to this day, I’m still not quite sure how I was able to get it all done. As my experience map below indicates, it was definitely an up and down journey. But as the saying goes, you can’t get too high with the highs or too low with the lows. If this journey was easy then everyone would do it. Having the fortitude to power through it helped strengthen me as a professional and as a person. As the last class winds down and we are completing our final assignments and projects, it seems only appropriate to go back to the beginning and walkthrough how it is I ended up completing my mastery journey.

1—Mastery: Personal Development and Leadership

The first class helped me to get back into the flow of doing schoolwork again. It had been quite some time since I did college level work and finding a routine that was going to work with my schedule proved tough at first. In the end, it helped me to learn how to organize my time and plan out my week to be efficient as possible. No matter what line of work you are in, this is an extremely useful skill, and one that employers love. I learned how to use the APA style for writing and, with some practice and lots of editing, was able to complete my first research paper in the program. I was proud of myself that I was able to get back into the paper writing mindset, although it wasn’t easy.

2—Defining Clients Needs

The first class that really dove into the design field, Defining Clients Needs introduced me to the whole design process when beginning a project. I learned to create mind maps and how important it is to sketch before starting to digitally create items. Learning the complete design process beginning to end helped me understand the most efficient way to go about working on a project and also what a client may be expecting along the way. In creating the mind maps, I impressed myself with how many different ideas I could come up with for each map I created. We were asked to do 9 total mind maps and I was able to fill up a whole page with ideas for each of the nine. Organizing those idea on paper made the designing in the next class much easier.

3—Brand Development

Iteration, iteration, iteration. If nothing else, I learned that iteration is the key when trying to come up with a design. After selecting the city of Kyoto as the subject of my project, I sketched out dozens upon dozens of different logos. I never thought I was very good at drawing, but I surprised myself with how well each one turned out. I had never used Illustrator before and it had been 16 years or so since I used InDesign. Creating toolboxes for the Kyoto campaign was a struggle for me but I was quickly able to learn both programs enough to create the toolboxes as well as some high quality logos. I would have never guessed that I would be able to learn software quickly enough to create professional looking designs in 4 weeks or less.

4—Effective Copywriting

One of my favorite classes, Effective Copywriting had us find an analyze ads to see what worked and what didn’t. Creating personas was something completely new to me and the process of creating them was interesting. Being able to visualize the target consumer is one thing, but the more details you come up with about them, the more precise the message can be. I learned in this class how to be concise with my message and only give the info that the reader truly needs. Attention spans aren’t long, so it’s better to keep it short and sweet. When finalizing my PSAs, I decided to make all 3 ads look uniform as far as layout and color scheme. By doing this, I learned how to make a rough “template” in InDesign that made the design process much quicker. I again was proud of the final result and had 3 well done PSAs to add to my portfolio.

5—Design Research

This class had us creating a fictional benefit concert to help sea turtles as well as a website to promote it. I had done some basic web design in my undergrad classes but that was with Adobe Go Live software which doesn’t exist anymore. That design was based more on functionality instead of design aesthetics and effectiveness. I felt this class had the most work involved and I spent a great deal of time learning how to do certain things in Illustrator and InDesign. I’d be fairly confident in my web page designs but then found out that it wasn’t as good as I thought when we had the peer reviews and the instructor critiqued it for me. I’ve never had any problem accepting feedback but I did learn in this class that even though a designer may be confident in their work, there is always something that someone else sees that needs attention. Part of it was my inexperience in web design, but either way I took a great deal of knowledge away from this class. I remember that I learned how to wrap text around objects and how to manipulate letters the way I wanted and that helped my website look better than I could’ve imagined.

6—Organizational Structures

Because of my background in video and video editing, this was another one of my favorite classes. Through my research, I was introduced to cinemagraphs. I had never seen or heard of them before but I immediately became fascinated with them. Combining still images with motion was genius and I couldn’t wait to learn how to do it. Much to my surprise, I found out that you can edit video in Photoshop. Not only could you edit in Photoshop, but the process to create a cinemagraph wasn’t nearly as complicated as I expected. I became pretty good at creating them and am looking forward to creating some new ones of my own, when time allows. As a designer, I learned to pay attention to everything in an image to see what kind of message it is delivering to the audience. For example, when promoting tourism in Kyoto, it is best to show all the people in the image smiling and enjoying themselves rather than having no expression or seeming somber. The people in a few of the images I chose where very small, but when their expressions were point out to me during the instructors critique, I completely understood where he was coming from.

7—Design Strategies and Motivation

An important lesson learned in this class is a project is never truly done. There are always things that can be changed or upgraded to make it work better. I revisited the logo I created for the Kyoto campaign and did more iterations to fix the issue of the logo not showing up very well on busy backgrounds. It was in this class where I learned how to use the Creative Clouds library to share assets between programs. I could create something in Illustrator and save it to my CC Library and easily pull it into InDesign with no problem. I was excited when I learned this, but also aggravated at myself because I was half way through the MDMFA program and I just now figured it out. It would’ve been helpful to know about this for some of the projects in earlier classes.

8—Design Integration

I enjoyed doing the cinemagraph so much in month 6 that I decided to revisit the project and create another cinemagraph to go with the campaign. I was much more skilled with Photoshop this time around and became very handy with the masking tool. I also decided to branch out and try to design something new that we hadn’t discussed in any of the classes: business cards. I came up with many business card designs for the Kyoto campaign and focused on making it match the campaign as best as possible. A valuable lesson I learned during this process was to take into account the client and how much the design would cost. Since the client for this project is a government, they may not have a large budget to spend on something small like business cards. Therefore, I designed two different types of cards, a vibrant, detailed card for the dignitaries and a more cost efficient one for standard employees. Something as simple as a business card had a lot of considerations to be aware of.

9—Multi-Platform Delivery

Including the PSAs that I had created in my portfolio was very important to me and in order to do so, I needed to create a fictional company and design a new logo to place on the ads. The organization’s name needed to explain what the group does as well as be memorable so people wouldn’t for get it. That was the first step. After I came up with the name, I had to create multiple logos that would also be memorable and fitting for the company. At this point I had become more proficient with Illustrator and was able to create digital comps fairly easy. After receiving multiple rounds of feedback, multiple iterations of the logo were created before I was satisfied with the result. It seemed as if the instructor was my client and after I proposed my logo design to her, she would recommend changes that needed to be made. It was a nice glimpse into the real world of design.

10—Measuring Design Effectiveness

A designer could create the greatest design project in the world, but if the consumer doesn’t like it, doesn’t understand it, or is offended by it, it is all for nothing. I learned one of the most effective ways of testing the project is by having the target audience fill out a questionnaire. My questionnaire surprisingly received a large number of responses, all of which were helpful. An aspect of the questionnaire I wasn’t expecting were the answers that were given on the last open ended question of “Do you have any comments?” By allowing the person to speak freely, many honest opinions and insights were shared about my designs. These made me go back and change some things which made the project that much better. The saying “the customer is always right” seemed to be accurate in this case.

11—Thesis: Presentation of Design Solution

The time had come to create the thesis presentation and the pressure was turned up a notch. Luckily I had all my work and files from each class organized and that made it much easier to go back and find the projects I needed. As with any job, design or otherwise, organization is key when trying to use your time efficiently. I had never used the web design site wix.com but I quickly picked up the basics of it and was able to create a visually pleasing site to showcase what all I had learned in the program. The way a site is laid out makes a big difference on readability and, as with other projects I designed, simple seemed to be better. Visual overload can be distracting and I didn’t want it to take away from the content of my thesis. Just like being up against a deadline in the real world, there was a lot to do in a short amount of time but I was able to focus and put my best effort forth in what was probably the most important class of the program.

This final month helped us freshen up our resumes and practice our cover letter writing skills, both extremely helpful things as we go out into the world of media design. This final class wrapped everything up nicely and let us visually see our journey through the experience map. There is no doubt in my mind that every instructor that I encountered in the MDMFA program has me well prepared to be successful not only in the field of design, but in life as well. Feature Friday! Toadallytickles!

FF: We're joined by the adorable @toadallytickles today! Could you tell us a bit about yourself?

T: Aah! Well I'm Toad, online that is, after my favourite animal, not the Super Mario character. I get asked that a lot! I just turned 20 at the start of March, I live in Ontario, and currently in college to be a Fish and Wildlife Technician as I would love to work with animals and the environment in my future career! Even though I am very tune with nature, I also do Photoshopping, graphic design, digital art, and computer program! My computer programming teacher keeps my games and programs too to show them off to his future classes as I used Photoshop to design them! I am also very big on self-love, body positivity, sex positivity, sexuality, mental health, relationships, and life in general! I am very open with these topics myself, so I love discussing them openly with others without judgment, so if you need someone to talk to about anything, you're welcome to come to me!

FF: Wow! What a kind and caring friend we have here! And so multitalented too! Tell me, how long have you been a part of the community for?

T: I made my blog in December 2015, a few days after Christmas! So for a year and a couple of months now I've been in this community and ya'll still tolerate me, ha-

FF: Tolerate you?? We love you! Don't we folks? Of course we do! So tell me, what inspired you to join the community?

T: Oooh stop~ I literally do nothing in this community except complain about not being tickled and flaunt how much I am a ho for them bye- HA OKAY- So like since the summer of 2015, I'd just scroll through thebest-medicine and fluffytickles' blogs for the amazing fanfics and art, and that's how I found out there was a whole community! And I had to join of course! I don't know why I did it so late though!

FF: On behalf of everyone in the community, let me say...that we're so blessed to have you!!! We love having such a great friend as you in the community.

So what are some of your dreams and aspirations, Toad?

T: Aaww~! Well thank you very much! I love being apart of this community, and I'm so happy you all accept me for who I am! There are soooo many amazing people in this community, and I can't believe I get to call some of them my closest friends! So pure, I would have never thought of making forever friends on here!

Ah- this may conflict with what I said earlier, though I think my biggest dream would be to be really attractive, like beautiful to the point I fully believe it and feel it. Like, I love myself right now, I think I'm pretty, but I mean I could look so much better if I worked for it. I'd love to do photoshoots too one day. I would love to be famous too, or just be known by a lot of people. I've had that dream since I was a kid. Most of it is to get revenge on everyone who was brutally mean to me in school, in a way of "you didn't stop me." It would be all for good, I swear. Like for raising awareness to stop bullying by sharing my story, or how we need to be much kinder to nature, or me being so open about my sexuality and body it inspires others. And of course if I had money, I could spoil my moms! Those are really big dreams though. Generally, I just aspire to be amazing in my future career, whatever it may be, and be happy.

FF: Well that's truly inspirational. You're a beautiful, powerful person inside and out and we're all truly grateful to know such an awe-inspiring amphibian Amazon. And what would you say is your favorite part of the community?

T: Oh- ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Hm, well there's a lot to like here. Though my favourite part of the community would have to be all of the people apart of it! We are all here because we all enjoy tickling, though we are just regular people with lives and families and friends and an education and talents and dreams, y'know? It is really comforting knowing that I'm not alone feeling ashamed for it when a lot of other people have the same interest, though from the outside and from knowing them, they're just people who you'd meet at school, or at work, or on the street. It just makes it easier for me to accept the kink and myself rather than feeling ashamed and constantly stressing over it. Also just how friendly everyone is. Its been real easy to gain confidence and love myself because a lot of people have been so supportive and kind to me when I post personal stories or share selfies or teasy gifs. Yeah.. a lot of compliments are given out and that's definitely helped me believe and accept them! I really appreciate it all!

FF: Awww, that's great to hear! There's so much to like about the community! Is there anything else you'd like to say to our readers before we hop on to bonus questions?

T: THERE'S BONUS QUESTIONS?! AH- I'd just like to say thank you to everyone who follows me and for being so kind to me through the months and being so supportive! I am really happy you guys like my blog and enjoy my company! Seriously, I would not be who I am at this very moment without your lovely compliments, support, and friendship. I suck at making friends in person and online so I am still very surprised a lot of you want to be my friend and are friends with me, though you never gave up on me and I am forever grateful for that because I have grown into a better, confident person. Thank you very very much for being so kind to not only me, but to fellow community members too. Kindness goes a long way, and I hope you are able to experience what I have experienced being in this community

I wish you the best of luck with whatever is upcoming in your lives, such as exams or job searching, or graduation, or prom shopping, or house searching, or college applications. Remember to be your very best self, though take it easy too!

FF: That’s great advice. Thank you so much. So, an anon asks, what inspires you?

T: What inspires me? With work and self-esteem, it's more of what drives me. I'm closer to my mum, and her side of the family lives a few minutes from us, so I grew up having to hang out with them and the cousins. Though, they are SUPER dysfunctional like- oh my god, the stories are horrible. Like my family at home is silly-crazy, we're weird, but these people are just... ugh... I hate them. My family is nothing like them, and we're keeping it that way. So that drives me to excel in school and go to college and get that career I want. With my self-esteem, I want to be good-looking and confident, so if I ever run into anyone from elementary and high school, revenge is served right there at the first glace. I guess what inspires me though is my friends. I mean, I can't believe people actually enjoy my company and friendship. I'm glad I have traits that attract them and I can make them happy. It reminds me on days where I'm down, they are always expecting to hear from me soon, or see me tomorrow in class. And if I shared my issues, they'd be there for me with open arms and be patient with me. Just thinking about how hurt and destroyed they'd be if I dropped out, or just vanished from their lives.. is devastating. They definitely inspire me to keep on living life when things are tough, and to continue being the amazing person I am! Nature is also inspiring to me. I like all the big and little things it has to offer. It reminds me why I'm here in college and why I love it so much, that one day I'm going to be happy helping and working with it, hopefully making it better!

High And Low Key Photography, Kingfishers, And Beautiful Landscapes – Here's What You Missed This Week On The Forums

Last week we had a lot of very interesting Low-Key/Hi-Key photographs thanks to the weekend challenge. We also want to welcome more than 100 new Light Stalkers that joined our beloved family this past week. We are sure you'll find a warming place to learn about photography.

Kent DuFault again chose an outstanding and interesting photo of the week. A very big thank you to Kent for highlighting really interesting images from our community every week. This is what Kent had to say about this image from Lenny Wollitz:

This week the POTW goes to Lenny for his image title, “The Big Red M”. I really like the extreme graphic depiction of this building.

The use of two warm power colors, red and yellow, framed by the much cooler color of the teal building begins the viewer's journey with a strong push inward. I'm always rambling on about the power of shape in photography, and this image is a prime example.

Of particular interest is the repetition of the upward angle- first in the letter M and secondly in the different levels of the building, the yellow roof in the background- and finally at the roofline at the top of the image.

There was some debate about whether the man at the bottom should be more prominent visually than in Lenny's original upload. I think Lenny nailed it because the man isn't the subject. The subject here is really just a graphic abstract. It really isn't even about the building.

The interesting part of the inclusion of the man is that it brings a sense of reality back into the image.

A very big congratulations to Lenny – such an interesting shot!

This is an excellent example of High Key used in a color based composition. This image is so abstract – brilliant capture.

Low Key always adds drama to every photograph, and this is a very good example of the drama that a decaying flower can have when captured underexposed.

Photographing snow is highly complex due to the extreme amount of white. This photograph, even when overexposed, looks soothing and even nostalgic.

Also, low key photography can unveil enough details to decode an object without showing it completely. This is exceptional

This is an extremely beautiful portrait. Low-key of children is unusual, given the dramatic feeling that low-key can imbue in an image – but this portrait absolutely works, great creativity from Chris!

The most beautiful thing about this portrait is the shiny quality on the model's hair. The high-key gives the portrait an ethereal look and a shimmer that is super appealing

What You May Have Missed In The Forums

Personally speaking I must say, Kingfishers are perhaps my favorite bird ever. They are small yet fierce, and pretty hard to photograph as well. This past week Tobie shared a splendid photograph of a Kingfisher in flight.

He wants to make it a huge living document, therefore it will evolve into a pretty large and detailed space for landscape photography. If you are interested, read this post.

Did you know that street photography is almost 180 years old? Here Robert Apple shared with us the most important section of one of Daguerre's most iconic photographs ever. Further, in the thread, I shared the larger image, but I think Robert's take is more important since many people watch the “Paris' Boulevard du Temple” photo and skip the human figure.

I have a favorite YouTube channel as one of my main photography resources, unfortunately (I understand, Ted has to eat), it has lately turned out to be more a gear oriented channel, and since I'm an academic, I enjoy more photography related content, rather than simply gear. Please, if you have anything that talks about the meaning of photography more than the latest and greatest, share it with us here!

Jim has a very good question about how to obtain a bigger size projection. If you can help him out, it will be very appreciated.

It all started out with a question from Ann Wheatley, but it has quickly evolved into a very interesting resource for anyone who wants to understand the Histogram's behavior after post-processing an image in Photoshop. If you are still doubtful about the “destructive” nature Photoshop has with images when compared to standard Adobe Camera Raw, Lightroom or Capture One Pro, then this for you.

Last but definitely not least, an “off-topic” by Chris that surely deserves our attention and support.

Poem by Robert Laurence Binyon (1869-1943), published in The Times newspaper

Plaque unveiled in 2003 at Polzeath to commemorate the place where For the Fallen is believed to have been composed. (2)

Laurence Binyon composed his best known poem while sitting on the cliff-top looking out to sea from the dramatic scenery of the north Cornish coastline. A plaque marks the location at Pentire Point, north of Polzeath. However, there is also a small plaque on the East Cliff north of Portreath, further south on the same north Cornwall coast, which also claims to be the place where the poem was written.

The poem was written in mid September 1914, a few weeks after the outbreak of the First World War. During these weeks the British Expeditionary Force had suffered casualties following its first encounter with the Imperial German Army at the Battle of Mons on 23 August, its rearguard action during the retreat from Mons in late August and the Battle of Le Cateau on 26 August, and its participation with the French Army in holding up the Imperial German Army at the First Battle of the Marne between 5 and 9 September 1914.

Laurence said in 1939 that the four lines of the fourth stanza came to him first. These words of the fourth stanza have become especially familiar and famous, having been adopted by the Royal British Legion as an Exhortation for ceremonies of Remembrance to commemorate fallen Servicemen and women.

Laurence Binyon was too old to enlist in the military forces but he went to work for the Red Cross as a medical orderly in 1916. He lost several close friends and his brother-in-law in the war.
