Rune is going to be my character for the new campaign my Monday group is starting!!! (RIP Kiran, who I never got to show off on this blog because he was a Tabaxi, a Dragonborn, and a Thri-Kreen. I'll miss it. Bugs and kisses.) We're playing Heckna! which is a Domain of Dread-adjacent horror-comedy campaign. The entire party is very macabre, and we should fit right in! (But hopefully not too much...)

Anyways, more about Rune. She's a changeling college of dance bard (a new subclass with the 2024 rules, kind of like a combo between a monk and a bard), and they used to be an acrobat at a circus. Since whatever world this party came from is clearly some kind of grimdark dark fantasy setting, the circus itself certainly had its eerie moments. (And of course, it was a magic circus.) When he wasn't up on the high wire, Rune also dabbled in doing tarot card readings for the circus guests, lying through her teeth about their pasts and futures. (While they used their true changeling form while performing in the big top, she used a specific guise when she did the readings, an older woman who used a different name.)

Rune carries with them a porcelain mask, largely featureless, but gilded with gold. When among people who do not know his changeling identity, she pretends that the mask is the source of her ability to change shape, putting it on every time they shift forms.

[He chuckles, tickling the baby's foot and making him gurgle happily.] In a few days' time, you'll be reunited with măma-tii, and you can see her after she's been fed well and is feeling more… herself. [He stands, carefully and slowly, nodding toward Nikolai.] Watch the boy while I tend to her — and when I return, you and I need to discuss an expansion of staff.

NIKOLAI: [He grimaces worriedly.] Master I assure you, you need no other staff. I might… I might have been useless against the raiders that ransacked the estate a couple centuries ago, but My Lord… with but a drop or two of your blood I could be strong again. I could take care of everything.

VLADISLAUS: [He scoffs, his expression completely deadpan.] While your eager willingness to serve earns you your keep, I highly doubt vitae holds the power to make you a suitable wet nurse, you buffoon.

NIKOLAI: Oh— Oh. [He laughs awkwardly.] Right. I shall um, I shall try searching among the Ravenwood peasantry! Surely there's a maiden who would be willing to part with her milk in exchange for her life?

VLADISLAUS: I make no promises to spare her; it is foolish to offer any sort of protection with a freshly risen Kindred wandering the house… Tell the girl otherwise, of course, there's no need to deviate from the script. I just want you to be prepared to dig more graves if necessary.

NIKOLAI: Yes Master, I understand.

"Caput Draconis!"

The Fat Lady has guarded the Gryffindor Common Room for centuries, letting students into their home-away-from-home... if they have the password, of course!

This is the project that got me into making cc in the first place. At the end of 2020 I was building my own version of Hogwarts. I had far fewer packs and I was searching out Harry Potter-related cc to incorporate. I finally reached the Gryffindor Common Room and of course needed The Fat Lady's portrait as the entrance. Except I couldn't find one. Although I'd had one for TS3, I couldn't find an acceptable one for TS4. So I tried learning how to convert objects. I had no idea how to use blender, my texture modifier was Paint and I was teaching myself how to use TSR Workshop and Sims4Studio as I went along.

Needless to say, I failed spectacularly. The doors just didn't work. I had no idea what I was doing. I managed to follow all the steps for converting... except I was basing it on a tutorial for a deco object. Guess what doesn't get covered in such a tutorial? Weights. I ended up giving up on the door conversion, sticking the fat lady onto a base game door's texture and settling for that. Then I made paintings. Because those were doable, and moved on from there.

I actually came back to this project last May and tried again. With a few more years of experience and reading the forums I had a better idea of how to use everything and I knew weights were a thing, so I tried modifying those. I actually, somehow, made a door that functioned as a portal, except sims just stepped through the painting, at least in some cases. It failed but not as bad.

So now, nine months later, having worked with weights on several projects now (converting the Cashcraft beds most recently, as well as the various earrings from last Simblreen), I figured it was time to try again. And it worked! I got everything weight painted correctly, I actually cut up the painting mesh so it could move and now I have a proper door. The only issue is that it's a little small... but that's for a subsequent project. There is also a little bit of gapping at certain angles between the painting and the door on the reverse, but it shouldn't be too noticeable. I'm so glad I can move this from WIPs to my Completed Projects folder!

The Fat Lady is Base Game Compatible and comes in nine swatches so you have options for the reverse door (which is based on the base game six-paneled door).

I used the same base painting mesh that I adapted from @thejim07.
