so I'm watching a recording of "The Nutcracker" and it's all very nice except that I'm so uncomfortable with the general ballet standards for the male dancers' costumes
it's not called The Nutcracker for nothing, those nuts do be crackin' and i don't love seeing that

Good evening, on this November 5th. It seems only fitting that we have a piece of the 1812 Overture's Finale by Pitor Ilich Tschaikovsky...with cannon, of course.
Classical pieces don’t exactly have lyrics, so I thought I’d post some pieces and make a poll to help this super niche set of people maybe find the music they have been looking for one day.
This is an extra little tidbit to our usual weekly Sunday Classical Search because it is appropriate. While the Finale is the most popular and heard piece of this entire Overture. It is an entire performance, stretching an entire 15 minutes and some change, which was named: The Solemn Overture or the Year 1812 Overture. Made to commerate Russia's successful defense against French Invasion. Celebrated by the Russians but infamously lauded as Napoleon's defeat and indeed, some may argue, the beginning of his fall from grace.
In modern times, you might recognize it as a point of triumph or to get the blood truly flowing from movie trailers to car commercials, this piece is used to great effect. But, arguably the most famous use of this piece was in the 2005 film, taking inspiration in adaption from the Alan Moore graphic novel of the same name: V for Vendetta, starring Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman. As both are forced to navigate a dystopian fascist state London. And in doing so raising the banner of revolution while using the failed Catholic Terrorist, Guy Fawkes, as inspiration for such acts.

hi lou!! 2, 8, 9 for rena!
Tumblr media
Send me a character and a number to see how they accesoirize
This was sooo fun to do and also agravating due to a certain someone COUGH Hayato COUGH anyway! I hope you enjoy the answers! and again thank you thank you thank you for sending something in!
TW: OC x CANON (aka HayaRena)
2- Renas phone with screensaver and background
Tumblr media
Rena always has notifications for her theater groupchat and an app that alerts her of planetary alignments. Girl is someone who always has 19 notifications and popups but rarely deals with all of them because she keeps them up as a reminder. I didn't wanna draw it but she also has her homescreen set to a big calender where she keeps track of rehersals and performances.
8- Renas favourite item
Tumblr media
A musicbox her grandmother gifted her before she passed. It plays two tunes. Tschaikovskies Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies and Tschaikovskies Swan Lake theme that can be switched between by pushing one of two buttons. She keeps it hidden in a box, but sometimes when she is alone takes it out. Dimitri used to sometimes wind up the musicbox when he noticed she couldn't sleep and it always helped her calm down.
9- One of Renas jewelery
Tumblr media
A small pendant Hayato bought for her at the culture festival when she noticed she was too short on cash. Since it was also the night they had their first kiss and began dating she holds it very dear, even if technically she gave him the money back. The thought counts.

Classical songs and how i associate them with Hannibal Lecter: a thread Little disclaimer: I'm not associating the actual meanings or names of these songs to Hannibal, only my judgement of the sound itself. It can sound different to anyone so its completely understandable that you don't agree with my view. I will also not be doing an analysis on Love Crime by Siouxsie since I think it's rather obvious what I would associate it to, and the place where you do hear the song will cloud my judgement too much to give it any other meaning.
The songs are all in a playlist I made on Spotify
Liebestraum - Franz Liszt
None but the lonely heart - Pyotr. I. Tschaikovsky
Requiem: II. "Dies irae" - Giuseppe Verdi
Lacrimosa - Wolfgang A. Mozart
The Four Seasions: "Winter" - Antonio Vivaldi
Dining with Lecter - Peter Gundry
Dark Cello - Maurizio Bignone
taking a small break again, hopefully ill finish this soon as i have 6 more songs to go (ALSO whenever i update the playlist ill update this thread too :))

Charioteer Ask - 3, 8 and 29!
3 Favourite literary reference.
Tschaikovsky’s Swan Lake
In the 1953 edition of The Charioteer, Laurie hums the enchanter’s theme when meeting Andrew for the first time. In Swan Lake, the Enchanter is the villain who turns a young maiden named Odette into a white swan. The spell can only be broken if one who has never loved before swears to love Odette forever. In the ballet, the prince first sees and falls in love with Odette, but when he returns to his castle for a ball, the enchanter turns the black swan Odile into Odette’s form, and introduces her to the prince. The prince believes Odile is his beloved and promises his love to her in front of the entire court. When the prince realizes his mistake, he rushes back to the lake to find Odette, but since he has already promised his love to Odile, the curse cannot be broken. Rather than remain a swan forever, Odette commits suicide, and the prince follows her into death.
In TC, as Laurie hums the enchanter’s theme, he falls under the spell of his fantasies and projects his love for Ralph onto someone else. Like the prince mistaking Odile for Odette, Laurie sees a boy who resembles Ralph and projects his feelings and fantasies about 19 year old Ralph onto this boy. The Swan Lake reference also highlights Laurie’s struggle to truly see and recognize Ralph. He mistakes Ralph for someone else three times: at Dunkirk a delirious Laurie mistakes him for a “tart”, Laurie has a sense of deja vu upon seeing the 19 year old Andrew and later realizes that it was because of his resemblance to 19 year old Ralph, Laurie is misled into believing that Ralph confronted Andrew when it was in fact Bunny who assumed Ralph’s identity.
Furthermore, by viewing Ralph and Andrew as manifestations of the black and white horses from the charioteer metaphor in The Phaedrus, Laurie unintentionally reduces their multifaceted personalities to one-dimensional analogies, robbing them of their full humanity as the enchanter does to Odette in Swan Lake. She must spend her days as a swan, only turning back into a human at night and only by the lake, never able to leave. Like Odette, Ralph is not allowed to live his full humanity by day, only at night, and only in private queer spaces, is he allowed to be himself.
Like the prince in Swan Lake, Laurie falls under a fantasy and fails to recognize his beloved until it is almost too late. In the ballet, a case of mistaken identity leads to the prince’s betrayal of Odette, which destroys her hopes of living a human life beyond the confines of the lake, and she’d rather die than lose her humanity. Likewise, a case of mistaken identity leads Laurie to reject Ralph and betray the trust they’ve established, which destroys Ralph’s last hopes of living a life where he can be his full human self outside the confines of the queer party scene, and if he can’t “make it out as a human being”, then he’d rather die.
Unlike Swan Lake, however, TC avoids the depressing ending –it may be too late for Odette and the prince, but it is not too late for Ralph and Laurie. Laurie returns just in time to promise his love to his true beloved, and saves his life.
8 If you could add one school scene to the book, what would it be?
The first time Laurie and Ralph saw each other! Their first ever interaction!
29 Charioteer-ism you have adopted into your everyday vocabulary.
Answered here.

31.10.2023 | Claudia, the child vampire, immortal diarist
Currently eating macarons at the piano with The Ruthless Pursuit of Annoying Lestat with All a Child's Demanding
Technically my Halloween costume is a piano medley of Tschaikovsky's The Doll's Funeral (played avec l'esprit de la liberté) and Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring (irreverently gespielt), as I imagine Claudia would play them after The Thing Lay Still, but I haven't had a chance to finish the transitions yet.

Don’t take the listed “genres” too seriously. All those categories, sub-categories and sub-sub-categories seem quite redundant to me - imho, they’re just unnecessarily confusing … but, then again, I’m no music-nerd, after all.

It certainly is interesting, and it’s quite arrogant to assume we have it all figured out. Besides, no one says you have to believe anything you read, but it sure can’t hurt to approach things with a more open mind, and to just look where evidence leads us, when it presents itself.)

I wonder what Anna Anderson means?
Anna means "grace" or "favor," although she chose the name not for its meaning, but because it sounded similar to "Anastasia."
Anderson means "son of Andrew." She allegedly chose that name to avoid the press, having previously gone by the name "Anna Tschaikovsky."
Her real name was Franziska Schanzkowska. I don't know the meaning of that surname, but Franziska means "Frenchwoman."

Good Evening, now that December has arrived. Let us get the basics out of the way. This is, of course, a piece of Трепак (русский танец, карамельная трость), translated into Trepak, Tempo di Trepak, Presto or perhaps Trepak (Dance Russe) or...quite simply, the Russian Dance from the Ballet, the Nutcracker by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Classical pieces don’t exactly have lyrics, so I thought I’d post some pieces and make a poll to help this super niche set of people maybe find the music they have been looking for one day.
A man known for his military celebratory pieces with their bombastic use of cannons or other such "instruments". One would think him equal to any task. But, by specializing in one field, you might find that you are forced to do something you dislike. Taking this man and putting him in the world of ballet infamously soured his mood. Though the Nutcracker has long become a beloved Christmas production. Tschaikovsky famously hated the work.
One particular rumored story goes, that, before conducting the ballet before a live audience in a park, he turned to the audience and said, quote: "Gentlemen--if I have to play this ballet one more time, I am going to kill myself."

🌧 😷 🎺 🧋for both Aon and Vlad ❤️
Thanks for the asks friend! Aon is taking you out for some hot chocolate after the short interview. Vlad can fuck off KEK
🌧 When outside during the rain, do you use a raincoat, an umbrella, or something else? Do you enjoy rain?
Aon: I love rain, it’s really soothing. The sound of it, the smell of it in the forest or on the concrete in the city. I don’t think I even own an umbrella, at least never saw one lying around and I know myself - I would forget about it anyway. Hands full with other things and end up soaked anyway.
Vlad: I can’t really say I like or hate it. Sometimes rain comes in handy, sometimes it is a nuisance. I’d prefer an umbrella, if the circumstances require more haste some water falling from the sky won’t stop me in my doings.
😷 How often do you get sick? Do you stay at home when sick or do you end up going outside to, say, get some groceries? If you go outside, would you wear a mask?
Aon: Thankfully I don’t get sick too often. Maybe twice a year. Change of seasons is a bitch and always gets me no matter what I do. I try to ignore it, as best as I can and keep up with whatever drives me at the time. Until I get my sermon from Anna that I need to rest and all her yada yada and she commands me to bed.
Vlad: Does an engine get sick? Or the circuit boards in a computer? No, I require some physical and psychological check ups from time to time…maintenance work, if you like. Even though I hate that term.
🎺 What kind of music do you mostly listen to? Do you know how to play an instrument, and if not, which one would you want to learn to play?
Aon: Rock ‘n’ Roll, some Country, Classic rock, basically everything from the 60s to 80s mostly, some newer stuff from the early two thousands that Greg recommended to me too. Yes, I am talking about the 1960 and so on. I didn’t have the privilege to learn an instrument like others did in their youth but to be honest I never was that much interested in it either. I enjoy listening to it and others playing instruments. If I had to choose I’d go for the drums I think.
Vlad: Classical music, the German masters are undisputedly at the top, although of course I wouldn't disdain the works of Tschaikovsky or Stravinsky either. I would also count Vivaldi and Dvořák among my favorites. *he sighs slightly* Quite difficult to decide actually. If I could, I would want to learn to play the piano. I can play a very few tunes but I am lacking the time to invest myself into it.
🧋What's your go-to thing to drink? Do you prefer cold or hot drinks?
Aon: Black hot coffee is my favorite, it’s like my morning ritual to get a big cup of it to start the day. Besides that you can bribe me with a lot of things, hot and cold.
Vlad: Depends on the occasion. A drink can mean or say many things in a given situation. If I am free to choose it’s always a french red, preferably Cabernet Sauvignon.
