I recently tried doodling some Bleach grills strictly from memory. Only a few of them are mostly correct lol.

I was rewatching some episodes of Bleach a few months back and I still have a fondness for it. It's one of the first animes I ever watched at all, though I never got very far past that first big Soul Society arc; I used to watch episodes on TV as a kid with my family and I saw cool Bleach cosplays and other stuff frequently at anime conventions. I have a general idea of what happens later thanks to some fanfiction and other forms of Fandom Osmosis.

And I realized while listening to the episodes play in the background that I had... no idea where Urahara's kids came from??? Why are there two children just living with the former Soul Society captains??? I'd never gotten that far (if it was revealed in the main manga or anime at all) and had never come across the information in fanworks or on the few wiki pages that I'd browsed. So, I looked it up on a wiki, and it turns out that Ururu and Jinta are artificial souls like Nemu (this is revealed in one of the novels). Which made sense! I'd been expecting something like that or adoption of random spirit-sensitive humans (this was my guess) or whatever.

But it does make me wonder HOW something like that happened... and also WHY? It's very funny to me that someone in the Urahara-Yoruichi-Tessai throuple (non-canon to my knowledge, unfortunately) apparently decided that they wanted kids (with superpowers, of course) and Urahara just... made some. (Or Urahara was just experimenting and then decided to raise his mad science experiments properly. Maybe it was a "I can do ANYTHING better than that fucker Kurotsutchi and I'll fucking prove it" kind of thing.) Ururu and Jinta are Ichigo's younger sisters' age (uh, maybe, hard to know with artificial souls), so it kind of looks like this mad scientist babymaking went down after Ichigo was born.

My mind keeps going back to that "Text your partner: 'I want a baby'" meme from several years ago as a fic idea.

Tessai: I want a baby.

Kisuke: we already have the cat

Yoruichi: I'm baby

Yoruichi: fuck kisuke beat me to it

Yoruichi: kisuke this is your fault I told you not to let him hold ichigo

Tessai: He's very cute.

Tessai: I want one.

Yoruichi: where are you gonna get one? I'm not doing it

Kisuke: we are also exiled criminals, that feels pertinent to mention here as a consideration when family planning

Yoruichi: I mean we've done stupider shit

How frequently do you suppose the latter two utter the words, "Just don't tell your papa?" How frequently do you think the former walks in on an absolute disaster?

How much have Ururu and Jinta done that is objectively terrifying?

A135. The two are Reconstructed Souls created by Kisuke.

A fan-translation renders Kubo's answer as "Modified Souls," but "改造魂魄" (Kaizō Konpaku) is Modified Soul. Instead, Kubo uses "被造魂魄", which is better translated as "Reconstructed Soul." "破造" implies he broke and modified them.

I have wondered for awhile whose DNA (body and soul) Kisuke might have borrowed to create them, but now I'm fairly certain it hardly matters. Whatever he started with, the implication to me is that he broke it down enough that it no longer retained much of its original characteristics. And honestly, the idea of reconstruction is incredibly IC for him.

For day 16 of the event, I used number 5 from prompt 18 for Ururu from Bleach! She’s so cute and such a sweetie, so it was nice to take the chance to write for her! Though there’s not many of them and they’re rather mundane, I hope any fans of the series will enjoy 😊

What does the character normally wear?

Ururu just naturally feels most comfortable in skirts or dresses. She doesn’t find pants overly comfortable. To be honest, she’s one of the very few people in the world who honestly hate wearing jeans for any length of time. She’ll wear them if she absolutely has to, but she’s counting the minutes until she can take them off.

She’s pretty much the epitome of soft girl aesthetics meets preppy shy girl. She mixes and matches in between the trends, though she wouldn’t know it. She’s not someone who keeps up on fashion or really understands much about it. She wears what she likes, shops wherever is cheapest, and doesn’t give her clothing much attention beyond that. Fashion terms would just go over her head every time.

She prefers soft pastel colours. Light blues, greens, lilacs, and pinks are all colours that just naturally attract her. She’s not a fan of bright, bold, in-your-face colours that draw attention to her but prefers softer colours that don’t stand out and neutral tones like white and tans that are appropriate for any situation.

Ururu isn’t someone who will have a lot of sensitivities in terms of fabrics or clothing types. She doesn’t notice huge differences between a lot of the fabrics, especially if they’re washed and treated with good fabric softener. She’ll know the obvious – wool feels different from cotton, which feels different from silk, but other than that, she’s not exceptionally worried or even observant about things like that.

She does prefer her clothing to fit but be slightly loose. A very modest person, Ururu hates anything that clearly shows her body, as well as anything low-cut or very short. She wants to be proper, not flirty, or seductive in appearance.

When she’s cold, it’s cardigans or pull-over sweaters she reaches for rather than hoodies. She doesn’t think she’s often seen a pretty hoodie.

For pyjamas, Ururu definitely is the type who likes matching pyjamas sets. Something about wearing anything mismatching (socks, pyjamas, etc.) really bothers her, actually.

She wears her hair quite plainly and doesn’t have a lot of hair accessories. However, she does like pastel or femininely decorated elastics and scrunchies, along with plain but pretty coloured clips and bobby pins.

She wouldn’t be able to walk in heels and has no idea why she should ever wear a pair.

When she does start to wear make-up, it’s very natural looking. She’ll fill in her brows, wear brown eyeliner lightly, clear mascara, and maybe a slightly tinted lip gloss. She’s not too comfortable with anything more than that, though she wishes she was better at make-up so that she could experiment with things like contouring.

I love how soft Urahara is with Ururu when she admits that she gave a customer defective merchandise (actually Kon) by mistake. It's in such stark contrast to both his ditzy shopkeeper and schemer modes. This dude really loves his kid and I respect that.

Stupid Innocuous Best Fave

Saaaaaame. ToT She may have been created as a doomsday device (and seems to have accepted this role without prompting when the situation seems to call--she's ready to go KO Ichigo when they think he's about to go full Hollow), but she's just as much a little girl and is loved as one.

I guess what's a little sad/ironic about that is that she really does get terrorized by Jinta, and it's pretty clear that she reason she's so scared to apologize for/draw attention to her error is because she's expecting punishment--specifically, physical punishment. She flinches away from his hand:

So the poor girl has still sustained some childhood trauma--not because she lives in a weirdo shop that engages in moral travesties below ground (and probably also above) but because her brother hits her. :( Which is sad, but also a reminder that even in the presence of the supernatural, the trials and tribulations of being a normal person can still come home to roost just as monumentally.

I'm not sure that Urahara quite registers this (Jinta immediately starts pulling her hair and berating her for not reading the box properly, and Urahara is like, ha ha please don't fight? please?), though I imagine it'd be difficult for him to consistently find that register.

I finally updated this fic. I have about 25k written for various future parts of the AU, and it's reached the point where I'm like, okay, I need to just knock out the first part already because this is getting ridiculous.

Summary:

Yoruichi and Kisuke are sent to shut down a secret Central 46 lab in the way that onmitsukido agents do best. Somehow, they gain a daughter.

(It is the first time they bring home a kid capable of destroying the world. It is not the last.)
