yeah i def think tullireo will have that togetullia from pi vibe!! like there’s very obviously something going on and it’s mentioned now and again but reader’s relationship with nagi / search for barou are much more forefront so it’s not at all the main focus!! with such an expansive story though it’s so important imo to have more relationships than just the main pairing otherwise things fall flat and/or the main pairing can almost feel out of place?? like why are y’all falling in love when NO ONE else is 😭⁉️

oaeu aiku is lowkey so entertaining to write though i can’t even lie he has some HILARIOUS lines i just started the barou version and there’s sm lorenzo slander i’m crying…people can’t even get mad because they’re not MY thoughts they’re aiku’s!!! that’s why i was able to get away w sae slander hehehe 🤫🤫🤫 anyways we finally had the dream team of aryu sendou niko and aiku show up as well as the aiku + niko duo getting some screen time so it’s been fun 🤩

YAYYYY I LOVED THE GRAPHICS the grey matching nagi’s character color…houndoom being the only splash of color and really standing out…the super neat font (serving barou realness tbh) idk i just really like it it’s def not the same vibe as the oaeu one for example but that one def gives “this is a silly cute crack fic” whereas this one you can tell you’ll need to lock in a bit to read if that makes sense

ALSO DID YOU SEE THE NEW TRAILER it’s looking like we’re getting s1 animation again but honestly it’s whatever s1 was liveable plus they always do my man nagi (mostly) right so i’m chilling…they made otoya’s face and chin SUPER pointy in that one screencap i reblogged but otherwise idm it too much!! FKDKSKAKQ EEEEEE IM GLAD YOU ASKED!

So like, first things first, my favourite pokemone is decidueye, mostly because when my friend got me into playing unite, he was the first pokemon I got (ignoring pikachu who is the default tutorial guy)

I named him Rowley cuz I like how Rowlet sounded lol

And I have a whole little world thought out for my persona and Rowley, specially how they met

Before I go on, I gotta clear up something. Unite is the only pokemon game I ever played, and not out of interest, I just 1. Was never allowed to and 2. When I was, it wasn't in my priority then and now I don't have money for it fksjsja

I loved pokemon growing up! But it was the "demon's" work, so like, yeah, my knowledge is very skewed, but I did run it back to my pokemon encyclopedia friend and they gave the thumbs up so yeah--

But basically, Salty, when she was aroumd 12, was struggling to get a pokemon compared to her other classmates, so she decided to venture out, at first, it was supposed to be on her own, but she wasn't allowed since she was too young, an older, for now, unnamed figure who I'm yet to fill the role of with a proper character, catches her and they join her in her journey.

After still struggling to find one after hours, they stumbl upon a Rowlet

She, before even approaching it, she made noise and called its attention on her, everything was still for a moment until a snack slid out of Salty's bag due the position she halted, they stared at it for a moment before the Rowlet jumped at it, grabbed it and flew off

Salty, irrationally, took chase as her guardian (imma call them that) yelled out for her to stop

Very dumb move but she was always very impulsive

She ran through foliage and rocky ground, calling for the Rowlet who did not hear her please, or simply ignored them

Eventually she lost track of him and was out of breath, body filled with tiny cuts and scratches. Her guardian eventually caught up, equally out of breath and comforted her as she noticed the girl's distraught look.

"Hey, it's alright, there are plenty other pokemon out there"

"Yeah, but it's the first we've seen in hours and it was so...cute...also it took my favourite snack! Can it even eat that?"

"Don't worry, that one specifically isn't bad for them, let's go back to camp and get you patched up."

"Okay..."

They go back, Salty gets patched up and she sits in the log they made to a makeshift bench where she had left her bag sitting while getting taken care of when she heard some rustling. She freezes and slowly glanced down at her bag, that looked heavier and fuller than before. A hand slowly reached down for it and gently opened it, and a gasp escaped her lips.

The rowlet she had taken chase to not moments before was resting in a pile of wrappers, stomach full and currently in a food coma.

She stared at it for what felt like forever, waiting for it to move and fly off again, but no such thing happaned, so she, without taking her eyes off of the bird as if it would disappear the moment she turned away, grabbed one of the pokeballs in her belt and used it on the pokemon, miraculously working, a smile began to build on her face.

"Guardian! Guardian! Guess what just happened!"

She stood up and ran towards her guardian who was fixing up their stuff to start moving.

This is just their backstory tho, I'm still planning her actual story, but their dynamic is very sweet to me

Clumsy, danger magnet girl and a bird who is only there for the food but actually really cares for his trainer

He acts like he doesn't care but is very protective of salty

"If she's gone, my free ticker for a buffet is gone too" he'd say if anyone understood him

Salty's also a bit sensitive so he's usually there to glare at anyone who dares step out of line XD

She'd probably give him a friendship bracelet and it would go something like this:

"If you don't want it I can take it back"

"No its mine now"

I’m gonna work throughout all regions and ignoring type statistics because it’s more fun. Also, I’m choosing pokémon for them based within on their types rather than out of every pokemon.

Medic

He's a professor but also runs a flying-type gym. It’s an easy badge.

His whole team is generally flying or flying/something except for his Audino. 

Tranquill is his partner, nicknamed Archimedes, who is always lurking around him, and his second in commands are Audino and Drifblim. 

His Audino is an evil little bastard, which he finds adorable and hilarious. It could stab you and he’d go “aw, nice to see you guys bonding.” 

He runs his Gym with a very playful and gleeful attitude. He’s far more interested in a compelling match than he is in winning. He actually gets REALLY exited when someone beats him and demands a chance to go over each of their pokémon to observe and gather data. 

His research is revolutionary in both healing and strengthening pokémon. He’s created several potions.

Heavy

Steel type master gym leader. He’s a pokémon master. His gym is one of the hardest to beat and he does not go easy on anyone. 

He’s made a lot of kids cry just from doing his job without any sugar coating, but he is genuinely helpful when it comes to advice on how to improve.

He is overjoyed to see people come back stronger and makes sure people who beat him understand how much they deserve this win.

His partner pokémon is a stoic but amiable Bastiodon who’s only friendly to him and Medic. It’s nicknamed Sasha. 

His seconds are a Lucario and a Metagross. 

Engineer

Electric gym leader. He’s not technically a professor, but he goes far beyond regular gym leader duties. 

His gym is probably the second hardest after Heavy’s. 

He doesn’t really have a partner so much as he has three: An Alolan Raichu, a Rotom, and a Jolteon. (Based on a dispenser, teleporter, and sentry respectively.) 

They have personalities that match this with the Jolteon being very protective/agressive, the Raichu having a caretaker personality, and the Rotom always alert and on the go.

Despite being one of the most difficult leaders to beat along with an intense and stunning reputation, he’s really friendly. His gym has an extremely hospitable and casual air to it. 

Pyro

Fire/Fairy. Their gym is purely Fire based but they have a lot of fairy types around, even if they don’t use them in battle. 

Their partner is a Sylveon who was actually a twin Eeevee of Engie’s Jolteon. They rarely fight with it, however. 

In the battles: their main three are a Rapidash, Pyroar, and a Litten, who is very powerful despite not being evolved (and not wanting to). (Shut up statistic nerds I’m using anime logic for this one and yes it’s because I hate Incineroar’s design) /lh

Their pokémon are all ones that love to be pet and hugged but don’t know their own strength, so end up causing a lot of accidental injuries.

Their gym is really intimidating but of lower-average difficulty.  

Scout

He’s a new bug-type leader. He’s just barely been appointed a gym leader.

His parter is a Ninjask with his seconds being a Syther and a Ledian. His Ledian is really playful and loves to play ball with him, though isn’t as strong or skilled as the other two.

Most of his pokémon are actually bug/flying and speed is top notch priority in his gym. They may not pack a very big punch to pretty much half of all types, but they are incredibly hard to hit. Most attacks made without slowing them will miss.

That being said, his gym is still very much in beginner territory. In a game, his probably the second or first badge you’d get, next to Medic’s which could serve as something of a tutorial. 

He talks smack and does not lose graciously. If you interact with him afterwards he’ll treat you like a homie, though.

Spy

100% runs a dark-type gym. 

His partner is a Liepard that’s basically just the pokémon version of him.

 Suave, arrogant, skillful, and generally tired of every stupid thing constantly going on around it.

His second is a Thievul who’s also just like him but more interested in playing tricks/humiliating others, and a Greninja.

His gym is fancy and haughty, but you will be insulted like you’re in a school yard fight. Probably the first gym in the ‘oh shit this is really hard’ section. 

Sniper

I’m surprised at how easily I came to the conclusion Snipes would run a psychic-type gym; I thought I’d be going back and forth as to what type he’d have. 

His partner is a Meowstick. Not just because Espurr is my favorite, but also because the restraint pokémon with keen eyes ability is is fitting for obvious reasons. 

Gallade (also fitting for its courtesy)  and a Wobbuffet (i cant resist giving Sniper one of these guys, I’m sorry. Plus, Wobbuffet is the “patient pokemon” so i’m calling it as justified.) 

He also has a Meditite he just barley hatched from a an egg.

His gym is physically difficult to navigate. It’s not one building so much as it is several hidden nooks and krannies of floating rocks. Surprise battles are customary. 

When in an actual battle, it’s of medium difficulty. 

Demoman

Dragons.

His partner, though not his strongest, his a Shelgon. He is absolute best friends with it. His seconds are a chaotic/destructive Rayquaza and Hydreigon

Not part of his gym, but he runs a nursey for voltorbs/electrodes on the side. He gets blown up a lot but heartily laughs it off.

If this were a pokémon game, I feel like you’d fight him in a friendly match very early on. He’d fight only with his Shelgon and some voltorbs. 

His gym would come later, as a surprise, and is on the upper-middle difficulty level. Like the last gym before you get into the difficult difficult stuff. 

Soldier

Fighting gym.

His partner is a dogma Blaziken. His seconds are a Hitmonchan who’s as reactive as he is and a Bewear who’s just as crazy.

His Blaziken acts like a commander to the other two and is nicknamed Sergeant. 

His gym is set up like a boot camp and the pokémon are trained as such. His gym is after Pyro’s in difficulty.

So, in order, a game/anime would go something like this:

1. Medic or Scout (you’d have the option of choosing which to go to first)

2. Medic or Scout (whichever you didn’t go to first)

3. Pyro

4. Soldier

5. Sniper

6. Demoman

i totally get you on the confusing tutorials though! it definitely helps knowing someone who is experienced in it to help you figure out where to begin bc it's a very overwhelming hobby lol (esp if numbers stress you out. pointing to myself bc numbers stress me out)

under the cut bc i anticipate this being an essay

let's start by explaining the concept of full odds shiny hunting. full odds shiny hunting is where you take any measures necessary to keep the odds of a shiny appearing at the base rate.

in generations 1-5, these odds are 1/8192. in gens 6 and on, they are 1/4096.

particularly in the newer generations, the games include different mechanics and minigames where you can increase your shiny odds to as low as 1/100!

full odds shiny hunters do NOT use any of these mechanics to improve shiny odds.

people will hunt for full odds shinies for a variety of reasons. some people prefer it because it makes their shinies feel more special, others just like the journey and experience of finding that super rare shiny in the wild after several months or more of hunting.

a shiny is a shiny though so do not feel bad if you don't like full odds hunting! it's all about the journey finding your shiny, and the worth you assign to it at the end of the day! a full odds shiny is not inherently more valuable than one caught at 1/100 odds. it's about how much YOU cherish and appreciate your shiny catches! :]

a good gateway to full odds hunting at 1/8192 odds is definitely soft resetting for a shiny starter pokemon in heartgold/soulsilver. this is the only pokemon game where you can check if all three pokemon are shiny on the same screen, when you are picking out your starter! since you're essentially getting 3 encounters per soft reset, you have a better chance of finding a shiny starter.

i love hunting for starters bc then you get to play the rest of the game with your shiny too! and in hgss, it follows you around wherever you go :D

a good gateway for 1/4096 full odds hunting is horde encounters in XY/ORAS! catch a pokemon with the move Sweet Scent, then repeatedly have it use the move in tall grass. every time you use it, a horde of 5 pokemon will appear! again, since you're seeing more pokemon, the encounters seriously fly by.

now let's move onto reduced odds hunting!

starting in gen 5, shiny charm was introduced. shiny charm boosts your odds of finding a shiny by 3. (3/8192 or 3/4096) you receive shiny charm by completing your national pokedex in gens 5-6, and the regional pokedex in gens 7+. in bdsp however, you need to complete the national pokedex to get it.

shiny charm does NOT impact certain encounters, such as gift pokemon (the fossils in swsh and type:null in sumo/usum are examples of gift pokemon), dynamax or tera raid dens, traded pokemon and more.

also in bdsp, shiny charm literally only impacts bred pokemon for some reason??? so i don't recommend getting it bc it is a PAIN to receive and does literally nothing

certain methods will also increase your shiny odds as well though! (these will usually stack with shiny charm odds!)

USUM/SUMO:

sos chaining is by far the best and most popular way of shiny hunting for a lot of people. if you've played through those games, you know that wild pokemon can sometimes call for help, summoning another pokemon of their species or evolution line.

basically, if you let them keep calling for help in this manner, the more pokemon that appear, the better your shiny odds. the numbers are slightly different from the original sun/moon and ultra sun/ultra moon and for that reason i somewhat favor usum.

in ultra sun/ultra moon, you can get your odds to 1/315 without shiny charm or 1/273 with shiny charm after achieving a chain of 30 pokemon!

the method behind this one is simple. false swipe the starting pokemon, then use an adrenaline orb. then you just keep knocking out the pokemon that are summoned.

just be sure to either prepare the right team for sos chaining OR periodically replace the pokemon calling for help. bc it WILL run out of pp eventually and struggle to death.

MASUDA METHOD:

masuda method is a shiny hunting method introduced in gen 4! (dppt) it was coded by junichi masuda (hence the name), and has been a mechanic in all games since.

masuda method revolves around breeding pokemon. if you breed pokemon from two different games that were played in two different languages, the odds of a shiny pokemon being bred are increased to 1/683 without shiny charm, and i THINK 1/512 with shiny charm (in gen 6+)

if i bred a vulpix i caught myself in an english speaking game with a vulpix from game played in japanese, this would result in the masuda method lowering my shiny odds.

the most common way to perform this method is by obtaining a foreign ditto though bc ditto can breed with anything! (if you need help getting your hands on one lmk, i have my sources :eyes:)

there are also other methods in newer games, such as mass outbreaks in sv/arceus, chaining in swsh (it sucks tho dont recommend), chain fishing in gens 6+7, dexnav in ORAS, pokeradar in dppt and bdsp and dynamax adventures! (+ SO MANY more)

esen is the leader of the three-person party of her, dayn and florian after they split from their original parties, since they worked best together. she helps to document heartless behavior and how to fight them and gives that info to the rest of the vulpes union. she's curious to a fault and often gets distracted trying to research new heartless while literally in the middle of fighting them. lives in the lighthouse and sails keykids to the island. sometimes sells her drawings at florian's fruit and veg shop.

chip used to be a very shy kid, until he went on his pokemon journey and learned to come out of his shell. he became a gym leader in the starting town because he knows how scary starting a journey can be and wants to support new trainers. he is the definition of a handholdy tutorial, like if you dont bring a flying type before his battle he'll ask if you want to catch one, before being told off by his sister cassidy for being too coddling and starting the battle anyway. as a surprise he's also the champion of the region, excited to see how you've grown over your journey and fighting you full force.

cassidy is one of the lead developers for tms in the entire world. she's the one who gives you access to the tm crafting service and often appears to check on your progress and give you new tms. since she makes tms she researches pokemon moves; she's the fifth gym leader, part of her gym gimmick is that her pokemon all know torment, to force challengers to show her a variety of moves (and also stop flamethrower spammers she's so sick of this)

kalin is a ballet dancer, inspired by tales of meloetta and the red shoes it lost that fae heard as a kid. fae's mischievous, faer entire gym is designed to scare people. challengers are not told who the gym leader is or what they look like. doors lock behind you and you have to find hiding klefki to pass, a seemingly headless trainer chases you (turns out to be a disguised theatrigus, one of my fakemon), and at the very end theres a hall of portraits of the so far unnamed gym leader dating back to up to 100 years ago, however they seem to not age in any of them. the first pokemon kalin sends in is actually a zoroark to tip the player off that illusions were used to make the gym scarier. after beating the gym, kalin reveals that the gym has been passed down in faer family for years, all to keep the joke going and make it seem like the gym leader is immortal, a real faerie. kalin tells you faer real name and makes you promise not to reveal the gym's secrets. also yes i made a fairy gym leader just to give faer fae/faer pronouns the joke was too easy

not as much to lichen as the others haha. works at reid's coffee shop (another oc i have to fix the ref for but not as much motivation for xem as these other ones), sometimes runs a little arts and crafts event for kids in the shop. loves halloween and horror, outfit always has some kind of bat motif on it. might look scary but is genuinely sweet.

The Most Ridiculous Hat in the World

I decided to just make all of this without looking up any kind of tutorial. It was originally just the white center part for me to just experiment and see what would happen and then I decided to add more colors and then I decided it was going to be a scarf and by scarf I mean a scarf design for me so it would pretty much just be a high collar that buttons on the front because I didn't want to have to deal with all the extra fabric which is why I never use scarves. But then I decided why not make it a hat? And then I was like why don't I add ears? And then obviously I needed to add ear flaps.

And yes. I will be wearing this when it's cold outside. Making it was fun and its delightful. I just have to add little strings or something to the ear flap so that I can tie them under my chin so it won't go flying away. Though admittedly that is less of a problem in Georgia than it was in Pennsylvania.

Walks pointed out it kind of looks like the Pokemon Armaldo, and that is correct, it does.

The ears were supposed to stand upright more but I couldn't figure out how to make them do that.

First two days of Tears of the Kingdom.

Tears of the Kingdom came out on my birthday.

Back when I was a sprightly lad in my late twenties, Breath of the Wild was a revelation to me. Before that, every game was a plaformer, a Pokemon, or Minecraft. I'd never played an open world game and suddenly I had the caviar of open world games. I remember that summer when I spent months mostly fishing, before I got so annoyed with the Bokoblins interrupting me that I went down a rabbit hole that ended in defeating Ganon. Fishing was a lot easier after that.

Six years later, Breath of the Wild was my gateway drug; I played Skyrim, No Man's Sky, every Pokemon game desperate to emulate BOTW, and now that wondrous experience exploring Hyrule for the first time...is in the past.

It took me a day for Tears of the Kingdom to really click with me. Instead of starting out in the wild, the Great Sky Island is a garden, and a ruined city. Mechanics and machines are the main event now, instead of just the simple, intuitive foraging and strategy of the first game. It makes for a less relaxing but more creative experience.

One time I had to figure out how to get a Zonai Wing flying without a runway to escape a sky island while also trying not to freeze. I died maybe five times before figuring out the chain of events was:

Get on the Zonai Wing

Rewind the Zonai Wing

Although I know the building system was inspired by the crazy vehicles and flying machines people made in BOTW, the physics of the Zonai devices can't help but make me think of No Man's Sky. *sighs with happy memories* 😊

Ultimately my favorite experience of the tutorial section on the Great Sky Island was getting on a vehicle and just walking around freely on it while it moved! Just this simple feature must have taken so much programming, no wonder it took so long. It blows my mind to get on a glider and just walk around it while it's sailing through the air.

But it wasn't until I finally dived off the island that it all clicked. I was home, in the good old "Wild". The fields and forests of Hyrule. After some wandering, it all came back to me. No planet in No Man's Sky can hold a candle to seeing a shrine in the distance and climbing, swimming, and slashing your way to everything in order to get to it - and then getting distracted and going to do something else anyway.

This landscape feels real. These trees feel real - oh crap what the - the trees are Alolan Exeggutor now?! The first time a tree came to life was hilarious. And they wallop you EXACTLY like Alolan Exeggutor. Why does the forest hate me.

Horriblins have a great name and they are weird. This was another fun "what the hell is that" moment. For instance, I got too close to a pit of gloom, and hell itself rose out of it to throroughly chase me down and murder me. That was weird, but I will definitely remember it! It's always fun and unusual to encounter a brand new monster, especially since they have a slightly different art direction than the old enemies, since you know, six years have passed.

Purah managed to re-age into her design from Hyrule Warriors! What a coincidence. It makes total sense because enough time has passed and totally isn't because they wanted to keep her a teenage girl.

The Skyview Tower is incredibly amusing. From invasively grabbing Link with recycled Guardian arms to shooting him into space on a bungee cord, Purah is pretty savage. I can't wait to do again for the next tower. It's so much better than the Sheikah towers.

And now I'm so into the game that I have to set my 2:00 am rule again. Vehicles building is starting to come more naturally, but to be honest, the whole vehicle system sticks out from the rest of the gameplay.

That's my overall experience. The new features are wondrous, original, and sometimes they clash with the simpler, more organic elements of the Breath of the Wild that are still an important part of the game. You can get stuck in certain places and be forced to teleport because the new gameplay style they start you out with makes you wait for glider. This game forces you to be resourceful and think on your toes a lot sooner than Breath of the Wild. But just like Breath of the Wild, it's still addictive enough to stop yourself at 2:00 in the morning just to get some sleep so you're not too tired to play tomorrow.

After all, I'm not getting any younger. I need my sleep.

I had a dream so cool that I'm prioritizing sharing it before other things I typically do when I wake up. (The daily missions on pokemon masters)

It's going to be a lot, so it will be behind a keep reading

The dream started off with trailers for an upcoming pokemon game. A main series one too. It was close to release by this time in the dream and this was the final trailer.

I don't remember much of what it contained other than the trainer person had a level up bar for some reason and the entire internet went into theory mode, as expected.

Then the dream cut to a time I get the game and start playing it. It starts off with the protagonist going to a school after some dialogue with their parents. Yes parents plural. They got to have a dad. (Though it is later revealed that both parents are adoptive parents)

Some scenes show the protagonist doing some school work before they have outdoor break time and I can move the protagonist around finally. Oh yeah there's a jerk rival in the classroom. He looked like the type of character every 12 to 14 year old girl would fall head over heels for. Also the jerk rival is the son of the teacher who was almost as mean.

Everything seems normal while I go around talking to different NPCs but then when I make the trainer walk into an interesting dark place I saw that was like beneath some trees and the trees had claw marks on them and some gem-like things at the base, they transform into some kind of aerodactyl looking thing but with fur styled like the trainer person's hair. (There was like different models for this thing based on how the player customizes the character's hair it was neat)

Then there was another cutscene so I guess this was a story focused game like sun and moon. Also it's funny that there was no indication I was supposed to make the character go to the interesting dark place as if it was just simply a predictable place a player would walk to.

Nobody saw the protagonist transform except for the jerk rival who stared in surprise. The protagonist was very confused by what they've become.

They step out of the darkness nervously and the rival steps back visibly scared. Haha yes scare the jerk rival The dream never told me what the transformation is called or if it did I don't remember but I'm going to call it a wereodactyl like werewolf aerodactyl.

The wereodactyl is a thing not believed to exist by most people in the pokemon world except by a group of conspiracy theorist people I guess. How fun.

A teacher sees this monster of a pokemon and sends out a pokemon to fight. The protagonist is visibly able to control this form and the rival can tell. The protagonist isn't fighting the pokemon but trying to avoid hurting anyone.

The rival seems to have sudden character development out of "Wait this person I was mean to is actually cool" so actually this was not character development but something more like the jerk rival becoming nice to the player specifically.

The rival calls out to the protagonist by name (thanks a lot) and tells them to fly away.

Protagonist picks up jerk rival in their talons and flies away. The teacher heard the name and was furious by this. That student was not only a "vicious monster" but also took his son.

Now I see the flying wereodactyl carrying the jerk rival through the air. Just flying in place. This isn't a cutscene. There is a thing on the side of the screen that was a menu thing. It had a "R button" mark on it. Pressing r brought up the menu and there are controls listed for flying. So basically there's no real flying tutorial it just kinda throws the player in there which is actually cool because it shows that the player and protagonist share the feeling of "what the heck is going on?"

The controls had the usual d-pad to move and the bottom one could even have the character fly backwards though it was slower than flying forward. Also holding y while pressing the top or bottom part of the d-pad could control the height at which the character was flying which is really cool and what I wish they did with Braviary in legends arceus. (Koraidon and Miraidon in scarlet and violet too)

Also x button opened the normal menu and- wowie zowie pressing the L button can pick people and pokemon up if you aren't holding anything and will drop them if you are.

Of course I try and drop the rival just to see what would happen but of course I get a message that tells me I can't drop things from this height. Oh well.

Except the game isn't letting me go to a lower or higher height just yet.

This game in the dream is very open world though.

So I make the wereodactyl fly around aimlessly for a bit looking around at all the places in the game I want to explore while holding the rival against my will but then more wereodactyls can be seen flying and following the protagonist and when enough appear, cutsecene happens that shows them all getting closer and they begin to talk.

They're like "this is the late chief's kid, right? It can't be. I thought he/she was also killed by humans when the chief and the chieftess were!"

I don't remember much of anything else that was said but the plot is getting really interesting. The protagonist (and the rival) went to a small village hidden in a- snowy rainforest/tropical jungle thing?? That's beautiful ??? And probably not something that can actually exist???? But I love it????? Snow in a place like that is incredible. Everyone in the village was in human form but they're all wereodactyls. I also remember the theme of the wereodactyl village sounded like the bittercold final battle theme in pokemon mystery dungeon gates to infinity but remixed to sound like a calm town-like theme.

More cutscene stuff I don't remember much of EXCEPT RYUKI WAS THERE. He got the "battle facility character in a situation " treatment. He was slightly older and had amnesia and he was said to have been somehow transformed into a wereodactly through supernatural means. (the game in the dream worded that differently because honestly I don't remember if the name of the aerodactyl people was mentioned)

Ryuki was friends with the late chief and chieftess and was trusted enough in the village to be the replacement chief since the protagonist's real wereodactyl parents that were the chief and chieftess were killed 10 years before by the protagonist's adoptive parents we see at the beginning of the game.

Ryuki also gives the protagonist and the rival their starter pokemon. This is definitely the latest time until the player receives their first mon ever.

Fights with the rival were few in number throughout the game because the rival hilariously stayed with in the wereodactyl village a lot hoping to find a way to become one without needing to have been born into it but nobody knows how Ryuki became one so things aren't looking good for the rival's aspirations.

The rival did not want to return home lol

I don't remember much more of the plot but I remember stuff like the wereodactyl can crawl on land using its bent wings as claws or something and as the game progresses, the player can make the wereodactyl dive underwater. They're apparently semi-aquatic and can breathe underwater. Also the controls are the same underwater as they are in the air.

Also got to see Ryuki transform a few times. With how his hair looks, his wereodactyl form looked awesome.

Oh and what's the deal with the protagonist having a level up bar? I failed to find a place to mention it earlier but in certain battles within the story they could fight alongside their mons in the battle like a 7th team member.

Leveling up as the wereodactyl could be done by battling wild mons in the overworld too. The protagonist could also pick up overworld mons if they're small enough including ones owned by trainers that are out in towns or whatever. Pokeballs can be thrown in wereodactyl form so as far as I'm concerned staying in wereodactyl form is purely beneficial and I'm going to just say it, I would definitely have the character in wereodactyl form all the time and be annoyed by parts of the game where the character has to be in human form.

After eventually getting through the plot and defeating the 8 gyms, elite 4, and champion while occasionally running into hunters the school teacher sends, post game begins.

Oh yeah also the adoptive parents did not in fact kill the chief and chieftess but perform a science on them and fuse them together to create the ultimate wereodactyl to take over the world. The protagonist would have been fused with them too to make it even stronger (yikes) if the protagonist didn't happen to discover their powers this soon.

Anyhoo, gotta battle the adoptive "parents" and after the win, they are very angry and unleash the fusion of the two wereodactyls and now the battle is between the protagonist and them without the help the protagonist's mons. Although it seems if the protagonist wasn't at least to level 50 at this time, Ryuki joins the battle to help. So we all know I would keep myself undereleveled even though normally I like being comically overpowered and over-train in games I can do that in.

The wereodactyl parents are unfused and return to their senses. That's when the story reaches the conclusion and I don't remember much else.

This is far too outlandish to ever have a chance of being real but it would be cool if it were. I might base an au off of this dream.

Ramble about something you like! We're all curious! 👀

A while ago I stumbled upon the rabbit hole of early game pokemon glitches. Pokemon red/blue/yellow are held together with sticks and glue (think AAA game today on release glitchy), and a few key glitches break it wide open.

The most famous of these glitches is the cinnabar island glitch, which occurs when you surf up and down its east coast. The devs forgor to program encounter data (the data that determines what pokemon you encounter on a specific tile) on these tiles, so the game uses the encounter data previously loaded. So you can go to Diglett Cave, encounter a pokemon there to load the encounter data, and then fly to Cinnabar Island and you will encounter Digletts on the east coast. But what happens when the game loads the encounter data for a place that has no encounters? It actually loads glitch data, from code that is meant for something else! This is responsible for a lot of glitches, such as what glitch items do. Anyway, there shouldn't be a way to encounter a Pokemon in a place that has no programmed encounter data, but there is one spot: the Old Man that gives you the tutorial. When he shows you how to catch a Pokemon, the game considers it a wild battle and loads the glitch data, in this case pulled from the player's name. So, after the tutorial, if you fly to Cinnabar Island and surf on the east coast, you can encounter very strange pokemon. For one thing, sometimes their level is above the level cap of 100, going all the way to 255! Secondly, encountering these pokemon will duplicate the sixth item in your bag, so you can have infinite master balls. With 255 of a quantity of item you can perform a glitch that lets you obtain glitch items, some of which are very useful for things like editing raw data or playing Pong, and some of which are very useful for fucking up the game beyond belief. Back to the Cinnabar Island glitch, its third application is the most famous: out of bounds Pokemon. Surfing up and down the east coast you can encounter oddities such as the L-shaped "MISSINGNO." or an even stranger "# 'M ^". (This is an approximation. Most glitch pokemon have glitch characters in their names, which I obviously can't type out here.) MISSINGNO is an L-shaped glitch block that has the cry of a Nidoran. It's pretty unremarkable in Red/Blue/Yellow. # 'M shares a Pokedex number with it, #00, so they have the same sprite, moveset and stats. # 'M has one weird property that its sibling does not however. When you battle and catch a # 'M, the game is like "lmao nope" and even though its sprite is gone you still have to battle it after you catch it, which I find hilarious. If you catch it again, the battle will actually end and you will have caught 2 Pokemon: the # 'M, and a Ditto. Nobody knows where the fuck the Ditto comes from and nobody wants to question it. After you catch one of these badass looking guys, you may want to battle with it. Is it stronger than Mewtwo? Does it obliterate everything? Well, reality is often disappointing, and MISSINGNO. is not as strong as it's portrayed in fan games and creepypastas. It has only one good stat, being Speed, and every other stat is awful. Its base Defense is actually 0! It has a terrible moveset too, with only four moves it can learn. # 'M fares the same. So is there a way to get a Pokemon stronger than any other? Well actually yes! Every Pokemon has an ID number corresponding to the order it was created. Rhydon is #001, and the cast of Pokemon have IDs going up to 191, with # 'M as #000 and MISSINGNO. padding out the holes that were once filled by Pokemon cut from the game. #192 to #255, however, house the real strange and dangerous Pokemon. Some of these have cries that infinitely loop, some switch the colors to grayscale or fill the screen with glitch tiles, some have movesets or names that corrupt your Pokemon and item data, and a couple outright crash the game. If you want a super strong Pokemon, PC 4S H has better base stats than the highest non glitch Pokemon throughout every game. If the game loads an opposing PC 4S H's sprite, it freezes, so you can also use it to troll your friends! You can obtain it by exploiting the system that sends Pokemon from Gen 2 to Gen 1, because encountering it in the wild will also freeze the game.

Oh also in pokemon yellow there's a way to beat the game in under a minute. Humans can do it (in fact I did once after 10 minutes of attempts) but I like it best as a TAS. Here's a video:

day 2 update on playing pokemon violet IM SOOO GLAD THAT I’VE ONLY PLAYED ONE BATTERY-SESSION-CHARGE A DAY AND THAT I’VE BARELY GOTTEN THROUGH IT i used to blow through the 3DS games in a day and then do all the post-game stuff and visit everywhere, even swsh was quick to get through. IM REALLY REALLY LIKING IT TOO im gonna go on for a while, it’s early game spoilers, like, tutorial spoilers and a little onward, and i talk about some characters!

i love the highlighting on the school aspect I USED TO LIKE, PURPOSEFULLY HANG OUT IN SCHOOLS IN POKEMON GAMES AND BE LIKE “im learning :)” so im just OVERJOYED at this concept ON TOP OF THAT why are some of the teachers kindaaa 😳

i love the characters so much so far. i love nemona she’s so fun and silly. and rich?? and student council president?? and arven... i feel like im gonna have a bede situation with him in which im gonna start at “GET BACK HERE, ANNOYING ASS!!!!! LET ME KNOW MORE ABOUT YOU!!!!!” and end with “this is my bestie, he bites”.

i like how moraidon (and i assume it mirrors for koraidon too) has a silly little personality of it’s own it makes me smile :) i actually really like this choice of legendary at the start of the game, i mean, the world is fuckin giant so i’d sure hope i have like TURBO RUNNING SHOES??? moraidon is a lovely replacement. i have already learned how to backwards jump with the guy.

im gonna have sooo much fun playing it for the next like 2 weeks in these little battery-charge-time-blocks. also i haven’t gotten many bugs yet, only like, twitchy hair on raifort (btw is raifort related to raihan im assuming yes because it seems obvious from their designs and names and im excited to see if it’s mentioned) and if u wanna count getting stuck somewhere getting a TM and needing to use flying taxi to escape there’s that, so overall good :)

alright so heres where its at. pokemom red/blue. a horrible conglomeration of coding. theres too much in the game thats just nonsense values and that FUCKED up the game.

if youve heard of pokemon youve probably heard of missingno. top of every iceberg video, insane consequences, how could this happen, yadda yadda yadda. its a pretty popular thing. but no ones really interested in how it works because rb is just so fucked up coding wise.

missingno (and subsequently, all other glitch pokemon) are unintended results of what seems to be more than 150 pkmn registered in the game database. now as i said before rb is just a shitshow so somehow if certain steps are taken it reads off the nonsense data from removed pokemon as actual legitimate data. most common way to get missingno in rb w/o hacks is the old man method. it has something to do with the way the game spawns in new pokemon and how that correlates with the catching tutorial since it isnt the player catching, rather it being an npc (the old man is the pkmm catching tutorial in viridian city). by talking to the old man then flying directly to cinnabar island and surfing along the eastern coastline (again, something to do with how the game reads data and the way the shoreline tiles are set up) you have the potential to encounter missingno. im pretty sure the other methods r just hacking

however, there are multiple forms of missingno. this part will be brief but theres the rb sprite, the yellow sprite, the pkmn tower ghost, the kabutop fossil, and the aerodactyl fossil. aside from the glitchy ones, theyre just like npc garbage data

(in order, rb, ghost, aerodactyl, kabutop, yellow)

the encounters are different based on different properties like name values and items but the most common is just rb

now, an important distinction is that the yellow sprite is vastly different from the other. this is because its only from the game yellow. the issue was primarily present in rb, fixed the old man glitch in yellow (not the other methods), and it was resolved entirely in green. yellow missingno has the color scheme of a pikachu rather than the default pallette. encountering a missingno in rb would usually just fuck up your hall of fame and duplicate items. nothing major. in yellow it just fucks your whole game. npcs spawn randomly on screen. your character can duplicate or just disappear entirely. it makes the game nearly unplayable, and thats just assuming it doesnt completely crash it first.

i could probably go on but im getting kinda tired. sorry if this was way longer than you expected or wanted but i saw my opportunity and took it <3

Brownie’s thoughts on Pokémon Legends Arceus

Admittedly, this is just what I’ve thought of while waiting for/on a train, but I just recently beat the final boss of the post game content, so I figure nows as good a time as any to give my opinion, if anyone cares. We have The Good, The Bad, and The Pokemon.

The Good

I’ve always enjoyed Pokémon games that break the mold - which is to say, I really enjoyed Mystery Dungeon and Ranger. I know Legends doesn't break the mold in the same way, but it's still a step out of the usual comfort zone of pokemon games, so that was extremely nice! I have to say, I absolutely adore and love just catching pokemon without fighting them. I was kind of worried it'd be a bit boring, but getting to sneak about, toss some oran berries out ther, and then throw your pokeballs, always feels very satisfying when you manage to catch an Alpha without doing any damage to it.

I like that 'bosses' weren't just 'battle the pokemon' - in fact, technically that part wasn't necessarily for quelling the Nobles! I do think that the tabbles themselves could've used a bit of variation, but over all I enjoyed them. I even died a couple times! And a little challenge is always nice :)

I thought all of the characters were a lot of fun, even if I do question some of the design choices (cough*Irida's Clothes*cough). I also found the arguments of 'space vs time' extremely annoying, but this is the good! And I thought the various relationships between the different wardens was good! Each one felt distinctive. I also really liked how many of the wardens were like 'i mean, maybe the frenzies is from Sinnoh :/ isn't more power good?' I wish the plot point was maybe covered in a bit more detail, but the fact it was there at all was a treat!

I thought a lot of the scenery was nice - especially the night sky! It was maye a little repetitive - as was BotW - but it is distinct enough landmarks that you can eventually get a feel for the terrain of an area.

The pokedex is great, I love all the things you need to do to fill it out. I dont' think I've completed a single entry fully yet.

The Bad

They had a reduced number of pokemon in this game - and this isn't the argument you think it is! I have no problem with a good having less pokemon in it! But I do kind of wish that when they have less pokemon, they'd take the time to give the pokemon new models. I know it's probably askign a lot, but like, across the last like five games the pokemon all look the same and it makes me miss sprites all the more.

On to bigger gripes!

The ending of the main tory feels very rushed and weird. I feel like you should've been able to join like one of the clans or the ginkgo guild or something. Like, have more choices, and those choices effecting the game more. I also feel like it swas 99% cutscenes or dialogue, which isn't as fun. And being outcast seems like it should've lasted a bit longer to feel more impactful.

I'm fine with the game not being open world, but the way it tells you you've hit an edge isn't great. More than anything, it's most annoying in the alabaster icelands. I can't say they designed this are last, but it definitely feels like it considering how boring it (and mount coronet tbh) feel compared to the other areas. Alabaster Icelands is particualry aggregious because the out of bounds aren't just the edges of the map, but the top of tall mountains - when you have a pokemon that can climb and one can fly. They couldn't have modeled the top of those? Even if they held nothing? It breaks flow so sharply I hate it.

The tutorial was grueling to endure. You spend hours with Rei telling you what to do and where to go. I feel like the game should've let you explore more in the beginning, and then you could ask Rei if you needed help or something.

The textures on the fields are kind of laxy and the repeating in some cutscenes is so glaringly obvious. Or like, the emblems on clothes are really low resolution? For some reason? Just all pixelated and ugly.

I like how many outfit options there are, and cutomization, but of course I wish there were more. i just like clothes and hair cuts :) (also not really my place, but as far as I'm aware there's only one textured hair design and it's braids? That's probably 'normal' for customization but I noticed it and it kind of bugged me)

The Pokemon

What does that mean? Uh just that I'll say whatever I want about pokemon from the game here lol. I've seen designs for like ancient pokemon that fans drew before this, and seeing what they went with was a bit of a let down. Not to say I don't like them, bt it was kind of ':/ I've seen better'. Like the fan renditions of Hisui Arcanine slapped. Also while Sneasler has grown on me a bit, I do think it could've been better. I also think it's weird how many Unova pokemon there were? Mostly because like, I'm pretty sure in pokemon canon Unova is - like America and Japan - on the other side of the world, so what are these pokemon doing here?

I wish you could walk with them, or some form of like petting them. I do like how much their sizes could vary tho! Some of it is kind of ridiculous - seeing an alpha sneasel, for instance, and you immediately go 'oh okay yeah this isn't real'. Like, even in the fiction of pokemon, I love her but she looks so dumb that big. Alphas as a concept tho are very neat and cool!

To wrap up this section, I guess I'd say that I wish there were more pokemon, but that's no surprise, and I wish there were more variations, but again no surprise, I'm just insatiable.

(also i have this conspiracy theory that there was supposed to be a third wurmple evolution in this game the beauregard wurmple would turn into it)

Final Thoughts

Do I recommend this game? Yeah, I'd say I would, I really enjoyed it, but with the words 'well, pokemon games kind of cut corners' followed right after my recommendation. It's just athing with pokemon for a while now, where their games just feel kind of lacking or incomplete, like they needed another year or two. I'm sure anybody who's played a recent pokemon game gets me. I hope they make another game in this style, and I hope it's not a mainline game, but takes place in the past like this one. I love the untapped potential of exploring the same regions but from a new perspective and different point in history. It adds a lot ot it and I can't wait to see where they go with it.
