This was a huge pet peeve of mine with TVD. You remember the seal on the tomb that prevented vampires from leaving? It was treated like this super difficult, time- and magic-intensive spell, requiring so much energy that it killed Grams to break it for Stefan and Damon in 1x15.

And then it’s used all willy-nilly in Season 2. They employ it to keep Elena in her house, to trap Katherine in 2x08, and Elijah gets his wizard (sorry, I forgot this name) to break it just like that to get Stefan out of the tomb in 2x11. I know the explanation was that the magic users drew on the power of their ancestors to fuel the spell, but surely an accomplished witch like Grams would know this, and it felt like they killed her off to hurt Bonnie with no reason because I liked that Elena had to see that her love for a vampire had consequences, but that means nothing when Bonnie constantly forgives her and is the punching bag of the show.

Not weird at all and I totally get what you mean about Bonnie and Grams. It's also like when Bree wouldn't give Damon an aneurysm and he so easily ripped her heart out.

I think this show would've been better if it was on HBO instead, though it probably would've invited comparisions to True Blood. Ian auditioned and got rejected for Jason Stackhouse before he got Damon's role. Before Delena bloodsharing happened in the show people were joking about Damon drinking from Elena's femoral artery so maybe we could've had that if it was on a different network. The person who edited their first sex scene also edited 3x19 and said both had to be cut down because of how hot it was.

It would've been more mature on HBO. The mature nature of TVD relied mostly on characters like Damon and Alaric, Katherine and Isobel. If not for them, I would've considered it a teen show.

Damon and Elena have insane chemistry, so I imagine their scenes had to be cut lol. It would've been insanely hot to see Damon feed from Elena's thigh like he did with the girl in 1x15. The blood sharing scene in 4x2 was meant to be Elena feeding on Damon. I can't imagine they'd do that for their blood sharing scene in 2x22. The vision Rebekah gives Damon in 3x18 would've been the better place to put it if they went there.

1. Harper the vampire has been desiccating for over a century, when he was put to ground enslavement still existed, some white dude tells him it’s 2010 and he’s just out in society like nothing? Yeah OK, TVD.

2. Bonnie’s loss immediately becomes about Elena’s and the need to find Isobel. Typical.

3. “I ‘binged’ it” lol blatant advertisement.

4. “I gotta go deal with Damon.” “How’s he doing?” WHY WOULD YOU CARE, ELENA.

5. “It’s so liberating not having a masterplan because I can do whatever the hell I want as opposed to what??? Why are they making it seem like Damon was so decisive and precise and under the radar and controlled and focused? The show begins with him murdering SO MANY PEOPLE.

6. “I need to go exploit some women in the name of grief” oh but Damon isn’t a predator, right? Mmkay.

WHY? So she won’t find out her mom is a vampire? THAT IS EXCESSIVE. And if that’s all it is then why didn’t Isobel just kill Trudy to begin with? Then Elena would have nothing to follow!

13. Harper should be having a breakdown. Not just looking at the different people mildly confused.

14. Elena buttoning up Damon’s shirt is absolutely ridiculous and unbelievably contrived. She should in fact be scared now that Damon is supposedly unstable now and wasn’t before because she saw the shit he did when he WAS stable. DETAILS.

15. And I forgot that he actually asks her to help him and he’s faking it, this is an example of manipulation for the DErs who don’t fucking know what it means.

16. And it makes no sense that Elena would tell Damon she found out about her birth mother, they never even spoke about her being adopted, this is fucking ridiculous because it’s bad writing.

17. It’s also seriously gross that Damon calls Elena “our girlfriend” especially since he and Elena are NEVER TOGETHER.

18. Kelly hating Caroline and liking Elena makes no sense to me.

19. It’s one thing for Elena not to stand up to Kelly when she calls Caroline Matt’s backup, it’s another that she doesn’t actually comfort Caroline after she leaves.

20. I like how they’re always like omg Elena’s mother’s name is Isobel, Ric’s wife’s name is Isobel, THERE IS ONLY ONE ISOBEL IN THIS PART OF VIRGINIA IT MUST BE ELENA’S MOTHER.

I never understood why “You’re all I have left/You’re all I got” was supposed to be such an emotional/heartwarming declaration because it’s basically saying you’re my last resort therefore I need you because no one else wanted me. It’s different when Elena says she has no one and Stefan says she has him because that’s actually reassuring, like you’re not alone.

22. So Alaric can just show up into the Salvatore Mansion?

23. It’s also clear that Alaric is supposed to be a Giles figure and he sucks, lmfao.

24. Lol I don’t get this whole so-and-so person was unhappy with life so what ... they make this life eternal? IT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE. With True Blood, Eddie has a whole story about how he was going through life in a haze, married with a son and then he realized he was gay and his marriae blew up and he tried to go to gay bars but was shot down because he was ugly and then he saw a man who was uglier than he was but had beautiful young men essentially worshipping him and he realized that man was a vampire so he was like ok well that’s for me because life is obviously better as a vampire and then it turns out it wasn’t, THAT makes sense.

25. It doesn’t make sense that Damon would stay in town after the tomb was open. No, for Elena doesn’t work here, that only works with Stefan.

26. Damon killing Alaric and then telling Stefan to clean up the mess reminds me of how in the 40s I believe he killed Enzo’s not-love-interest and framed Stefan for the murder because he was feeling sad.

27. I also don’t understand Elena’s desire to look for Isobel to be quite honest.

I feel like this is something I’ve talked about on this blog, I know for sure I’ve talked about it with rp partners but I’m going to try and get it written down because this line and Rebekah’s desperation for love always gives me a great many feels.

In canon Rebekah is about sixteen - eighteen when she is turned into a vampire. In the time that she’s grown up. She would have been marriageable or pretty damn close to it and yet from the flashbacks she and the rest of her family still lived at home. I have my thoughts as to why this came to be. (1) Esther’s fear of Dahlia as she had promised to come back and collect every first born but my thoughts are Rebekah was never married primarily for another reason (2) Mikael.

Mikael I believe in TVD mentions off-handedly to Damon, and for sure in the Originals with Marcel (“I won't hurt Rebekah, truth be told she was always my favorite,” 1x15). We know that losing Freya was extremely traumatizing to Mikael. As Freya has memories of him being a doting and loving Father that he is very much not when it comes to the others in multiple flashbacks. I believe that Rebekah was Mikael’s favorite mostly if not entirely, because of her resemblance to Freya. 

And Mikael would never lose another daughter. I don’t think Klaus’ overprotectiveness of Freya and his methods of killing off suitors was something he came up with on his own, I do believe the pattern started with Mikael and Klaus picked it up and magnified that after becoming a vampire. 

Rebekah was an object to be jealously protected first since she was a girl, and always a person second even long after she became a vampire. I do think that basic human decency wasn’t something often extended to her — and it’s why she does tend to fall head over heels for the first act of kindness over being looked at as her own independent person rather an extension, something owned by Klaus or Mikael and she will risk quite a lot and cut and awful lot of slack for that person to keep that feeling. Yes the fact that Rebekah was kind to Klaus, and accepting of him does play into his protectiveness over her but I do feel like Mikael really set the trend how to go about doing that.
