I just wanted to quickly jump in and share a little observation I’ve had. That across the spiderverse is just another movie I love that proves the industry could’ve been putting more people of color in films and just weren’t because the industry is built on racism. Anyway art is for everyone and everyone is an artist! don’t mind lil old me just sharing my two cents into the void.

I just want to say that you cannot own a character or an au. If the fandom has came to a point where people are worried to write for a character just because someone else owns them or get nervous over writing an au just because someone else beat them to it, we’re doing something wrong.
If you see me writing an au and want to go for it, feel free to do so. If you credit me as inspo that's fine, if not that's also fine because like I said no one owns these aus. Unless you're taking direct plot points or copy pasting things to your own fic from someone else’s, which is obviously a big no no, writing for the same au is fine. And I’d honestly hate to see people not writing things they want to write just because someone claims they’re the only person allowed to write it. That’s not how this works.
Just food for thought

been thinking about the disparity in the fandom reaction to gator and billy when both have a history of racism and violent behavior, particularly when you can observe the contrast in a single individual (i.e. people who hate billy but love gator).
thinking about how gator's racism and violence is part of a larger, careful depiction and condemnation of a horrific political movement which has half the nation in a stranglehold. how it's woven into the overall narrative and is an integral piece of gator's past, present, and future in the story. how it's depicted as one dimension of a pervasive, poison ideology and infrastructure that is far, far larger than he is but that he undeniably plays a major part in perpetuating.
thinking about how billy's racism and violence is a vehicle for the writer's own egos and self-serving desire to depict themselves as caring about social justice by making a racist boogeyman. how it exists in a vacuum and is never spoken of again. how it exists to give the audience a reason to hate billy and nothing more. how it traumatizes black audience members so white audience members can feel good for hating it. how it is ABOUT the white characters and therefore the white writers and audience members who love to hate it instead of the black character and audience who are brutalized to make it happen.
thinking about how y'all hold sympathy and make excuses for gator but not for billy.
about y'all seeing a 27-year old man who is an active, integral part of a large-scale, violent right-wing militia as somehow more sympathetic than a 17-year-old boy who is lashing out in bigoted ways because he's getting hit in a bigoted household.
y'all hated billy because his racism was easier to see and it made you feel good about yourselves for hating it. y'all love gator because you have to squint to see his racism so you've decided that you can excuse it.
billy's racism affected characters you liked and therefore you, so it was a problem. gator's racism hasn't, so it isn't. it isn't an obstacle to your sympathy because you risk nothing by extending it. there are black men working for gator's father so you have decided that is evidence enough that the bigotry gator holds is not prohibitive. there are no convenient poc under threat to form your moral superiority around 'protecting', so it's an unfortunate character flaw instead of fundamental moral failing.
y'all will gladly gush over and rally behind the redemption of a grown man deliberately and willingly following a fascistic megalomaniac wife beater because his trauma has set him up to do nothing else. y'all will gladly celebrate the death of a teenager trapped in an abusive home who behaves violently and with bigoted motivations because his trauma has set him up to do nothing else.
the only difference between the two is the racism of one inconveniences you to consider and the other doesn't.

On Guy Fawkes night of 2022 I was one of the first people to be invited to a harringrove discord server belonging to someone I believed to be a close friend.
This decision led to six months of a group of five people, some more than others, targeting me relentlessly, seemingly just for existing.
I was bullied because I was disabled, because I was trans, because my abuse didn’t “fit in” with their perceptions of what abuse looked like, because I was poor.
Even after I was kicked one day, with no explanation and blocked by both mods, my page continued to be stalked for three months afterwards while my mental health deteriorated significantly and visibly, even through my posts.
When they were finally cornered in the act, the excuses they gave were as weak as citing my politics (I was a bit too left for their tastes) and some was covert antisemitism.
I was never offered an official apology.
Then they went away for a while. Some of them deactivated, some crawled off into the shadows.
But then I heard about a new discord server. One which I never joined but I understood that the ringleader of the group who had tormented me for MONTHS was in. And my close friend was in this server, this person hadn’t changed. Apparently, this person is also selling their harassment of me as a “misunderstanding.”
I cannot mince my words here. This person is in a group of bullies, some of whom I understand were also on that server. Not all of them may have actively participated in the bullying but didn’t exactly do their damndest to stop it. And I know they saw it. They just don’t care. The exact participants of said bullying have changed since my experience over a year ago but the sentiment remains the same.
I don’t want to give any additional stress to any of their other victims so I won’t be naming any names. These people know who they are.
I hope everyone else who were affected by them and their actions are ok.

I guess I have to say this but I’m not trying to dictate Hobie age??? I’m team who the f cares. You seem him as 19/20 who’s a big brother to the other spiders? Cool! You see him as 16/17 rebel teen amazing! My concern comes from accusations.
Obviously with the release of the new movie comes a wave of new/redisgned ships(Punkflower/Punkchai/Ghostflower/ect) Because of the ambiguity of Spiderpunks age I’ve seen people start calling ships with him in it proshippers and that punkflower is proship which I think is gross and unfair. This like those characters type where they obviously look or act one age type. I don’t think it’s fair that people who may hc is younger and ship him with Miles or Pavtir are being called pedos. Now if his ages comes out and he’s older than though obviously those ships should stop but right now I don’t seen anything wrong. Especially to my knowledge Spiderpunk is also a ship from the comic( not a proship either)
We have two conflicting sources. Mr.Powers called him 19-20 but it seemed in the context of early design. However he said to as a statement. Some dms with Mr.Lord have been shown saying he didn’t know the ages and that age guess were hc. However that could have been response to the og and dms aren’t definitive
TLDR: I’m not trying to dictate Hobie age. I just hate seeing ppl being called pedos on such unsoild bases. Unless I’m missing something shipping him with someone from the Spiderband isn’t proship. I feel like with discourse we get dip into homophobia and stereotypes :(

TW for r*pe and s*c*de
CW for fandom drama, I guess
I feel like “can we not romanticize rape” is a valid criticism of fandom given how prevalent it is in real life and how triggering it is for SO MANY PEOPLE, but telling people to kill themselves over it is way out of line
for one thing, some people write that stuff to cope with their personal trauma and connect to others in similar situations
for another, you are in charge of your own media experiences, ESPECIALLY on tumblr. “don’t like, don’t read” is an oldie but a goodie that I think we should bring back
like??? yes reading rape upsets me, reading it be basically worshiped and called “romantic” is horrifying, but I’m not going to harrass the people writing because I have something called common fucking sense and basic fucking courtesy. if I see something I don’t like or agree with, I move on. if I see a bunch of stuff from the same author (and not just a one-off type deal) I use a nifty little thing called the block button. I wish more people would use it and mind their own business.
I feel like the best thing for everyone would be
writers, tag your content appropriately. not just warnings at the top of the fic, but in the tags as well
haters, use the block button and blacklist tags! guess what, most of those posts will magically disappear! probably not all of them considering tumblr is barely-functioning hellsite, but it’s better than nothing
obviously I’m in no position to tell anyone how to live their lives, but for folks who don’t want minors around your blogs some of you sure are acting like children yourselves

Harringrove antis and specifically St3ddie shippers saying we only ship Harringrove because they're two attractive white men is so hypocritical as if they aren't doing the same thing.
They act like they don't remember both Joe K and Joe Q saying they weren't romantically coding anything and it wasnt until st3ddie shippers asked Joe Q over and over about the ship until he caved in and said yes.
Dude was literally pushing Hellcheer at first and admitting that Eddie and Chrissy had chemistry
Also that's not the big brained statement that antis think it is when really we all need to be sideying the duffers for casting 98% white people for this show
Like who the fuck else are we supposed to ship these characters with? It's not out fault all the main adult characters are white

I went on a big rant and deleted it for my own sanity but man- I hate how pr*sh*ppers will cause problems and then be upset when people try to find solutions to get rid of them. You aren't a hero. Stop trying to convince yourself and kids that you are. Just- fuck off man. "It's fictional", quit playing, we know that's the only excuse you have because there's nothing you can say to justify it.
I hate this god damn fandom. I dont even hope for their deaths, maybe they can change afterall. They're right in that regard, its fiction, they have the time to make the change since they haven't done/before they do something irredeemable. I just wish that filtering tags automatically blocked anyone who used them. Filtering the tags doesn't do anything if I still have to run into these people to know to block them.

Saying your father is a dick can mean a lot of things.
When I was younger, I had friends who would talk about their fathers, and what they said reasoned with how I felt about my own.
Alarms went off in my head, only to find out that no, they didn't mean their fathers abused them.
My point is... sometimes children do talk shit about their parents, and when they say their parents are assholes, it can mean they took their phone or grounded them.
This doesn't mean there aren't problems at home, but I find it to be complete bullshit that a majority of people draw conclusions about Eddie's and Steve's parents (Eddie has Wayne, and we've never actually met the Harringtons), while you have Billy, who's abuse is blatant and visible.
Neil Hargrove calls him a f*ggot and slaps him in the face. This is not implied. It is SHOWN to you.
Trauma isn't pretty. It affects people differently, and to expect a saint to come out of a situation where the only thing sinful is how they were treated is wild, honestly.

I wanted to comment on your post, as well as the reblog by @toxicanonymity but didn't want to get hated as a fan/reader/commenter of the fics by all of you lovely writers... But just to add, it's ALMOST as if... Joel Miller is *canonically* a contractor/construction/maintenance worker... 🥴🥴🥴 And no individual fanfic writer can claim to own that character/trope or publicly get mad when other people write similar things... 🤦🏻‍♀️
There seems to be so many attempts to create unnecessary "RULES" for fic writers AND readers recently... Where writers saying "We appreciate ANY interaction, likes or comments! Thanks for reading 😊" has somehow turned into "Wow, why bother liking or commenting if you're not going to reblog too. That gives us no exposure. 🙄" This has made me, as a LONG TIME fic reader - longer than some here have been alive, want to not read or interact even less. Because I'm not "doing it right". When I LOVE SO MANY stories/writers on here! We are literally all here because we love a fandom and want to have fun in our Delulu Lands. Like WTF? It all just seems very unnecessary, tacky, and disheartening. Just sayin. But I'm so glad you pointed that out 🖤
I just wanna start off by saying that I do not condone taking direct plot points, dynamics or direct dialogue, the post has gotten kind of out of control so I wanted to repeat that first
Ever since I made that post I have been hearing insane things about this discourse that I didn't even know existed. You cannot own tropes, characters or aus or literally porn tropes. And it saddens me to see writers with "less" followers get extremely worried they are going to be called out just because they are writing the same au. I tend to stay away from discourse and mind my own business but that is taking it a bit too far
Also sometimes you jsut get similar ideas. Months ago I had an idea with a selective mute reader x joel fic where she was a baker and it was set during the jackson era. Pretty specific right? NOPE, apparently someone already wrote that on ao3 for game joel and I haven't even heard of it but somehow we still managed to get a very similar idea
As for the reblog thing, I do think that if you like it you should reblog but of course, I am not entitled to anyone's reblogs. The only thing I do get really peeved about is people commenting "PART 2" and then not even reblogging because we put a lot of work into it and it just comes across very demanding.
Like I said stealing direct plot not okay, but writing for the same au is fine, its fanfic, every writer has their own personal touch and different ways of telling a story.

the way people make up shit that billy didn't even do in canon to bash him over it's like they know their frothing, violent hatred of this abused kid is fundamentally damaging and unfair and they can only justify it by fucking lying

It feels weird being a fan of Horizon for me at the moment honestly. Not to be sappy as someone who’s only been active more 'recently' shit really can just drain a guy from being interested as Twitter discussion about these games can be…messy. It hurts to see, even more so when other fans become a target of such from what I’ve seen recently.
The only reason why I’m really bringing this up is Horizon Forbidden West’s PC release, and how *certain* folks may act towards the narrative of Aloy just being queer. I’ve said this before on here and all say it again, the fandom really took a hit from the burning shores discourse (that guerrilla certainly didn’t intend) to a degree that discussing seyka and the dlc is like stepping through a minefield / and or just outright shoo her away. I don’t intend to start stuff, it’s just been something I’ve observed that fuels my worries.
That’s just kind of it. My mind’s just been in an odd spot with this franchise until the next game’s out, whenever that is.

Seeing hate in the mungrove tag is so funny to me like people who ship mungrove are the chillest we just want to see these two gremlin boys get into mischief together and maybe kiss when they’re high
