I really love soulmate first word AUs and wonder if you could do a Tarlos one of them meeting? Hope you enjoy your break!
hey lovely! thanks for the prompt, i hope you enjoy it!
*cw for references to a drug overdose and an implied suicide attempt*
ao3
TK hasn’t believed in soulmates for a long time.
He does as a kid, because don’t all kids like the idea of a perfect romance, ready and waiting for them to fall into? He hangs onto his parents’ every word when they relate how they found each other, the moment they realised their Soul Marks matched. TK believes in their story, and he wants something just like what they have.
Then, too quickly, he grows up.
He hears stories of soulmates who never meet, doomed to live life without their pre-ordained other half. Some find happiness anyway; others don’t, too caught up in the fantasy of perfection to settle.
He hears about soulmates who do meet, and then don’t end up working out. His parents fall into this category, their marriage falling apart even before TK learns that soulmates aren’t all they’re cracked up to be. He wonders, sometimes, if they were lying about being soulmates, because his mom seems so much happier with Enzo, and his dad… Well, his dad moves on. He knows, logically, that it’s not true, but the thought is there anyway.
Worst of all, he hears that soulmates aren’t meant for people like him, people who love the wrong way. These tales usually come in the form of insults, and TK learns to disregard them. Even so, the idea sticks in his head for longer than he wants it to, sending a panicked bolt through him despite his disdain for the whole soulmate business.
He almost doesn’t look at his Mark when it shows up on his eighteenth birthday. He stubbornly averts his eyes until his arm is fully covered up, telling himself that it’s better this way. But his resolve weakens as the day wears on, and TK eventually finds himself shoving his sleeve up, looking down before he can second-guess himself.
He’s an impressive guy.
TK stares down at the writing, sitting heavily on the end of his bed as a shard of hope he didn’t even know he had left breaks and vanishes. He’s not sure what he’d been expecting, but words that show his so-called soulmate openly declaring affection for another man aren’t it.
TK tells himself that he doesn’t care. He probably won’t ever meet this guy, and, if he does, he supposes they can still be friends. Or they can ignore each other. That sort of thing happens, he hears. This means nothing to him; it never did, and it never will.
(He pretends to believe it)
*
At twenty-three, he meets Alex. TK has fallen far since eighteen, hospital trips and rehab facilities becoming staples in his life for several years. He’s been sober for a while now, but sometimes the emptiness inside him is so crushing that he wants nothing more than to give up again.
But Alex is a good guy - the best, really - and TK decides that the universe got it wrong with him. Alex’s first words to him were nothing more than a simple, “Hey”, but TK knows that they’re meant to be together. He even tells people that they’re soulmates when they ask, and because Alex shares his jaded view, he never tries to correct him.
It’s the happiest TK has ever been, and it refuses to throw it all away just because of four meaningless words on his arm.
Their relationship isn’t perfect, but whose is? Even soulmates argue, so he and Alex are completely fine. Better than fine. His dad - the only person besides Alex who knows about TK’s Mark - disagrees, repeatedly telling him that they’re not good for each other. TK doesn’t listen, rolling his eyes the first few times before tuning his dad out altogether.
He regrets that decision when, months later, he finds himself in his front room, engagement ring traded for oxy. A rip-off, really, but it’s not like he’ll be around long enough to care too much.
“I found him, TK,” Alex had said, his voice now echoing in TK’s head. “My soulmate.”
“But… You don’t believe in any of that crap.”
“I didn’t. But Mitchell is incredible, and I want to be with him. Properly, that is. I’m sorry, TK.”
*
Somehow, TK survives. He’s dragged to Austin, forced into a new city, a new team, a new life. He goes along with it, trying to find something beyond the grey, if only to make his dad happy. It’s an impossible task, but he’s good at faking smiles, so no-one needs to know.
Love and soulmates are the furthest things from his mind, because TK knows now. It’s not that the system is broken, it’s that he is. Those people from years ago were right all along; maybe soulmates do exist, just not for someone like him, who’s so irredeemably fucked up that no-one could possibly love them.
He refuses to waste any time thinking about his Mark, which is why he’s so caught off guard one rainy night when his dad rescues a baby from a tree, and a beautiful police officer approaches him.
“He’s an impressive guy.”
“He’s my dad,” TK responds unthinkingly. The officer’s words take a few seconds to sink in, and he almost gives himself whiplash from the speed at which he turns to look at him. “What did you say?”
The officer is wearing an identical look of shock, eyes wide as he stares at TK. “I…” He grins and shakes his head. “I’ll show you mine if you show me yours.”
Despite himself, TK’s heart begins to beat that bit faster and he can’t help the slow smile that spreads across his face. “Easy there, cowboy,” he jokes. “At least buy me dinner first.”
“How about a drink? I’ll be at the bar tonight.”
TK freezes, backing up a step or two. He’s been avoiding bars like the plague since New York; beside which, this whole thing is dangerous. If this really is his soulmate, then the universe has shitty timing, because the last thing he wants right now is someone else breaking his already ruined heart. TK carefully studies the guy, cataloguing his kind eyes, his open face, his body, obviously gorgeous despite being hidden under his uniform and raincoat.
He’s the kind of guy TK could easily fall for, which is exactly why he should be running right now. And yet.
“Sure,” he says, smiling. “I’ll see you there, Officer…”
“Reyes.” The officer leans in, so his breath tickles TK’s ear. “But you can call me Carlos.”
“TK.”
They shake hands, both laughing at the absurdity of the gesture. TK’s half sure he imagined the spark that passed between them at the contact, but he knows for certain that he wants - needs - Carlos in his life.
Standing there in the rain, looking into his soulmate’s eyes, TK tentatively starts to believe again.

The Start of Eventually
Summary: He leans against the doorframe trying to imagine a little girl bouncing on a guest bed, stuffed bunny squeezed tightly between her hands as she listens to her Uncle TK read a dramatically, adventurous bedtime story. It’s not hard at all, except for the painful beat of his heart against his chest.
Or: Carlos decides he has to have a guest room if he's going to be an uncle to the newest addition of the Ryder family.
Notes: For @twinkleballa who requested painting a room or rearranging furniture 🖤
Tarlos March Madness #9 of 31
The idea had sprouted a couple of weeks ago after sitting through a marathon of home renovation shows as TK recovered from a bout of food poisoning. His boyfriend had groaned into the bucket he held in his lap as the demolition team ripped a kitchen sink from the wall and spewed brown liquid all over the floor, demanding Carlos change the channel. That had been the end of it, or so Carlos had thought.
Now, it’s a month out from Grace’s due date and Carlos, fresh off the surprise of the Ryders gifting him the title of Uncle to their incoming little girl, wakes from a bizarre dream that leaves him unable to settle back down. He slowly peels himself from under the covers and eases out of bed so as not to wake TK who had come off a forty-eight hour shift. He crosses the bedroom on the balls of his feet and pulls the door shut behind him before heading downstairs.
A check of the clock, this time with a less bleary glance than the one he had given his phone, tells him it’s a few minutes past five so he decides to make himself a cup of coffee and settle at the kitchen island. Waiting for his morning caffeine to brew, he leans his elbows on the counter and scrolls through his phone trying to chase away the unwanted remnants of his dream. Even though he finds the new picture of TK and Marjan in their intramural softball league uniforms on his boyfriend’s Instagram to be incredibly adorable, it does little to help him forget about his dream.
He’d been standing in the middle of an empty room, walls bare and floor spotless, with TK standing at the door repeating the same thing over and over. You’re not ready. We’re not ready. He tried to say something, anything to get TK to stop saying that, but he couldn’t move his mouth. You’re not ready. We’re not ready. Ready for what? He didn’t know, but TK kept on and on until the walls started closing in and Carlos woke with a jack rabbiting pulse.

How long is RVB Zero going to be? And what’s it about?
Zero is gonna be eight 8-10 minute episodes so we're only getting about 64-80min of new content this season.
Edit: @twinkleballa has updated information on episode lengths so it's confirmed each episode is at least over 12mins putting us at 96‹ minutes for the season
Tumblr media
Rather than continue following the Reds and Blues, Zero follows Shatter Squad as they come together to stop the new villains from getting their hands on this season's big bad box of goodies (any generic action plot you can think of basically just animated in a neat Halo-esq candy coat) which is why I said they should've just gone the movie route. If you're a newer fan looking to get into the series it's supposed to be a good jumping on point but I've had a few good discussions with some Zero-crits where we agreed that it would probably be best to see if you like the actual series (s1, watch on your own schedule and enjoy at your own pace, regardless of who tries to rush you or speedrun the series) before you attach yourself to what is -realistically, given RTs track record- gonna be a "test" season.

I don't know if you are still taking prompts but I really want to read some Hilda x Mogar them meeting or him just being all protective and her rolling her eyes or something I just love the idea of them together
so I went with the first meeting, directly follows “Coal & Order”
(Hilda)
She’s going to kill X-Ray and Vav.
So, okay, they weren’t actually the ones that burst through her lab window in the middle of the night and dropped a semi-conscious bear-man on her floor (nope, that would be the giant red bird that’s giving her a death glare and trying to attack ORF anytime she goes anywhere near it), but she’s certain it’s their fault anyway. Besides, she’s going to need someone to punch later, and those idiots are a better option than the bird.
Hilda gets ORF away from the bird by instructing her to lift the bear-man onto her work table while she hunts down her first aid kit. Despite telling X-Ray and Vav multiple times that she has no medical training whatsoever, they still come here when they need patching up instead of going to, say, the hospital. And since X-Ray is quite possibly the biggest man-baby she’s ever encountered, she keeps a supply of anesthetics that should keep her patient knocked out while she works.
She realizes belatedly, as she looks him over, that this is probably that Mogar guy that X-Ray’s been fuming over for the past few weeks. She makes a mental note to ask the guys what happened later. He’s got a few minor burns that she takes care of fairly easily (and probably some smoke inhalation now that she thinks about it), and claw marks on his shoulders from where the bird carried him that she covers in antiseptic and gauze.
It’s the stomach wound that troubles her though. It’s not infected (thank god), but it’s crazy deep, and if there’s any internal damage, she’ll have to take him to the ER.
“ORF,” she calls, “I’m going to need your help.”
ORF floats over. “Certainly,” she chirps, hovering at Hilda’s shoulder. “How may I assist you?”
Hilda gestures to the stab wound. “I need you to scan this area for any internal damage, and scan his lungs too, while you’re at it. I’m sure there’s some smoke damage, I just need to know how much,” she instructs. “Oh, and stay away from the bird, please. I don’t want to have to replace your screen again.”
“Okay!” ORF floats and trills for a few minutes while she completes her scans. “Damage from smoke inhalation: minimal,” she reports cheerfully. “And no sign of internal damage, though antibiotics are recommended to prevent infection.”
She breathes a sigh of relief, and sets to work stitching the wound. Mogar doesn’t stir until she’s putting the finishing touches on his bandage, which is probably a good thing since he’s immediately growling and pulling away from her.
“Who are you?” he demands, his voice far stronger than she’s expecting from someone just waking up from heavy sedation. “Where have you brought me?”
“Hey, I didn’t bring you anywhere,” she snaps, immediately on the defensive. “Your crazy bird friend smashed through my window and wouldn’t leave me alone until I helped you.”
“Kazooie is not crazy,” he snarls, making his way unsteadily to his bird. He sulks there for a moment, stroking the bright feathers. She watches him scan the room, notices the way his body tenses when he spots the new suits she’s been making for X-Ray and Vav. Oh crap.
“You are friends with those caped buffoons?” There’s a vein pulsing in his neck, and Hilda’s honestly afraid he’s about to pass out.
ORF must notice it too, because she whirs over and scans Mogar before he can say another word. “Your blood pressure is rising rapidly,” she announces. “You should sit down.”
Mogar huffs and strides over to the broken window. “Mogar will not spend one more second in a place where those interlopers have walked.” He perches on the sill and looks over his shoulder. “Kazooie, come. We are leaving.”
Hilda rolls her eyes. “Okay, dumbass, I get that you don’t want to stay here, but at least take the elevator. I don’t really feel like patching you up again.”
He walks to the door she’s pointing to and pauses. “Worry not,” he says. “This is the last you will ever see of Mogar.”
She sighs as the door slams, and gets to work sweeping up the broken glass. “If only I were that lucky…”
