Hello, everyone. To today's episode of Tumblr user Rebo-chan loses her mind and assigns each and every Vongola guardian a flower that I have painstakingly searched high and low for (I wish I was being dramatic, I got too invested in this as I worked on it). Is this done in a state of mania? Perhaps, but I am diseased by COVID-19 as we speak and this is what I will do with the time I am meant to be resting with. Nonetheless we must get started. Content under the cut, because I can NEVER make a short post. It's against my core beliefs clearly.

Sawada Tsunayoshi:

The European Orange Lily (Lilium bulbiferum)

My reasoning for this starts with the fact that the "lily" itself has a lot of different meanings, but the important aspect of the lily is that its considered the spring flower and represents often meanings of renewal and rebirth. The very messaging for our sweet boy, a life restarted after he meets his mentor. An orange lily specifically has meanings dipped into warmth, joy, passion (In regards to his devotion to those he loves), 'welcoming' to new opportunities in your life (lol), and most importantly - confidence and pride. Something that he grows to be over the course of his renewal, pride in his friends. Confidence in his strength to protect them. KHR is a story about a nobody becoming somebody strong enough to protect them, even and especially when they falter themselves. It should also be noted that in Hanakotoba (Japanese flower language), orange lilies represent 'revenge and hatred'. Which I think is a factor of Tsuna we can't ignore, as sweet as he is, TYL Tsuna's actions become darker the more you think about them. Tsuna can and has killed when a villain has overstepped too far, and never forget that he just wanted to know "who" Yamamoto's attacker was. For no reason, just to look at him, maybe shake his hand lol. Fr though, that boy's made of fire, both to keep his loved ones warm and to burn their enemies. I think the orange lily fits him nicely.

Gokudera Hayato:

A Red Fressia

So, its quite hard actually to find any sort of 'red' flowers that aren't about some sort of romantic-esque devotion. Just being a red flower inherently puts you in that category of 'passion, love, marriage' meanings when it comes to flowers. It's a real struggle, but luckily he's our only red character amongst the Vongola kids. Okay, so the Freesia is represented by the concept of friendship and ultimate trust. I think it was easier for me to find a flower that represents devotion or duty and tack it on to Gokudera, but I think that's just looking at him on the surface. The story behind the freesia is that the botanist who found them in South Africa decided to name it after his friend as a symbol of their friendship. Very lovely :)<3 For all of Gokudera's dutiful affection for Tsuna, a lot of it is based on the fact that Tsuna was his first friend and the person who he trusted first. His eventual character growth and bonding with the other guardians came as he allowed himself to trust them, when he realized that his 'duty' that he believed to be absolute was above his bonds. Rather, it's his bonds that strengthen his resolve to be the perfect right hand man. Due to the intense representation of friendship and trust, freesias are given to a loved one to represent commitment to them, not unlike Gokudera's commitment to Tsuna and therefore the Vongola family unit. It should also be noted that in Hanakotoba, freesias also have a negative meaning which is childishness and immaturity which I do feel is something that Gokudera has to work through in order to become the best version of himself and has done quite well at by the end of the series. He's our little friendship blossom :)<3 Yamamoto Takeshi: Himalayan Blue Poppy

Let me start this by complaining that 'blue' flowers are so fucking rare, it took me forever to find something matched and was also color-coded with Yamamoto, that didn't dip into too indigo, because of the rarity of a nicely blue flower. To start, blue as a color has all those lovely Yamamoto vibes of being calming, easy on the mind, tranquility, all that beautiful stuff we know Yamamoto to be. (It's almost like Amano color-coded her characters guys..) Poppies themselves got a bit of cultural significance in the West, being the flowers given to WW1 soldiers after they'd passed as a way of remembrance. They're also known for growing in desolate war-torn areas, just a patch of poppies as well as having many soldiers buried with a poppy with them in honor. With that the poppy itself has themes of death, honor, lessons, tradition and remembrance. With Yamamoto’s connection to the Poppy flower, Yamamoto himself is..pretty death-coded. HEAR ME OUT. HEAR !! ME OUT!!!! Varia arc, Squalo ‘dies’ against Yamamoto. Future arc, Tsuyoshi is killed for Yamamoto being involved with the Vongola, Shimon with Yamamoto himself getting nearly killed and then that big moment where he offers to kill Daemon in retaliation for what was done to Kaoru. While not canon as well, the primo fillers are about Yamamoto dealing with the fact he DIDNT kill daisy and how he felt he had to be less easy-natured and actually go for the kills from now on. And of course, his attempt during daily life when he could not do what he loved anymore. He’s VERY death-coded y’all. But the poppy itself isn’t just some omen of death, but the lessons one can gather from those who have passed. Yamamoto’s own battle style is about taking the lessons of those before him who carried Shigure Soen Ryu and then growing upon that to carve a new and improved future for himself and those he cares about. He adapts to their lessons, what Squalo and Tsuyoshi have to teach him. On the fly, continuing the Shigure legacy and creating more moves to eventually pass on to the one that succeeds him. In general, he carries any lessons he has up until the end of the series and tries to never make the same mistake again. Whether that’s his lessons against the Mists he’s battled, his loss against Squalo for not having a proper sword style, and though he doesn’t get a chance against Gamma again, he’s always understood the importance of teamwork. That being said, he’s not just a poppy. He’s a Himalayan Blue Poppy. You see the himalayan blue poppy has a different meaning outside that of the ones that the other poppies do. With its rarity, it also represents success, potential, pursuit of dreams, and possibility.  Yamamoto is the Vongola family’s prodigy, a natural born hitman, the star baseball player on his team. Stuck at a crossroads between his dream and being able to be in a position to protect the ones he loves. An impossibly difficult choice to make, yet Yamamoto handles it with ease. He just won’t choose! He’ll do both! Which fights very nicely with the Hanakatoba meaning of the poppy. “Fun-loving” “A reminder to remember happiness.” Along with general blue color meanings of tranquility, that is Yamamoto to his core, I believe. When things get their worst, he is there to remind everyone that it is never as bad as it feels. To wash away the blood spilled, that is the role of the Vongola Rain Guardian. His crossroad isn’t an issue to him, because that’s not what he fights for! He fights to make things easier for everyone, so they may remember happiness. That sort of thing doesn’t exactly need him to make a choice on his path. Now, does it? If he’s forced to choose, he will just carve out new possibilities for himself and the ones that he loves with the lessons he’s learnt. 

Lambo Bovino: Green Envy Zinnia

Contrary to the title, the green envy zinnia has nothing to do with envy. Quite the opposite, actually. The zinnia itself represents endurance (HEAR. ME. OUT LOL), lasting affection, joy, and various other things. So, the zinnia is super fucking tough, again hear me OUTTTT. They bloom all the way from springtime to autumn, something pretty unheard of from flowers which gave them their meaning. A green envy Zinnia specifically represents growth or a journey. Wishes of a healthy and successful growth. And I believe that is the hope for Lambo, as he progresses through the series. He is quite literally a child, both himself and TYL. But that’s just the thing for him, to the one that chose the guardians (Iemitsu, it’s very implied that it was Iemitsu), Lambo is an INVESTMENT. And a correct one if twenty years old Lambo was anything to go by. Not only that, the zinnia represents a joyous endurance. This doesn’t have to be painful for him, and it’s not as he’s allowed to both be a kid in Tsuna’s care while also holding on tight when told to stay out of the fight. (“You have to take the younger me wherever you go, he wants to go with you.”). And as a bit of an angsty little hehe on my part, the zinnia also represents missing those who have passed, that you remember someone and love them even now that they’re not with you. (“Seeing you all again, I thought the day would never happen. It’s making me emotional.”) Honestly, judging by how Lambo fights when he gets the opportunity to properly do it, he just isn’t weak. Destroying Kikyo’s box animal, fighting against Ooyama, and of course against Levi too. In Hanakotoba, the Zinnia represents loyalty. He is their youngest blossom, enjoying being around the one he considers a brother with hidden potentials to grow into someone with the ability to be Vongola’s shield. If the ones he loves ever make it to see that sight, of course. 

Ryohei Sasagawa: Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) 

Okay, so the yarrow is first of all a funky flower. If you’ve never seen OTHER colors of the yarrow flower, I implore you to google it. Especially the red ones? Why are you so pretty? Lucky enough for this flower (and me I’m starting to lose my mind here, this was a much bigger task than I thought it would be) the different colors don’t change the meaning of the flower here which is neat. It also unfortunately has no hanakotoba meaning either. So, anyway. The yarrow. It represents a warrior’s bravery, protection, and healing. The healing comes from the fact that its a commonly used herb for bruises, cuts, and sprains. There’s also huge folklore around it which affects its scientific name, as Achilles used yarrow to take care of the men he was in charge of. This flower was also used as a ward against evil, where people would hang this outside of their homes in order to protect them from evil getting inside. A superstition developed around this leading to Yarrow to be named the devil’s nettle to refer to the belief that the devil would come around and shake the yarrow that people hung up due to wanting to curse them. This flower also represents strong everlasting love, to the point where a little tradition propped up where people would shove this flower up their nostrils whenever they had a nosebleed so if they dreamt about their crush it meant that they liked them back lol. Yall there was so much rich lore on this flower, it’s super neat. More than I could fit in here. Anyway, I’m sure yall see the connection with Ryohei acting as the group older brother, being the motivating factor for them. He was the first to go up during Varia arc and set the tone for the rest of the battles, that the Vongola would win. Last to show up during future, representing that all of them had finally been reunited. A draw against Aoba, again the very first battle, almost symbolizing HOW shimon would end. He’s the strength in their arms, acting as the last person to leave in future arc until they were ready to go. Taught them and helped lead them to make decisions during that arc. It’s almost his duty to protect the younger ones, even getting up on Hibari’s case in the fillers for not helping out his younger classmen. We can’t even dismiss the way he would prefer to shield Kyoko from everything that they go through, and getting aggressive with Tsuna when Tsuna broke something he thought both of them saw eye to eye on.  Not much rattles him, honestly if you pay attention to his scenes, only getting the most nervous and agitated TRULY when he fears he won’t be able to protect someone (Asking Tsuna how Kyoko reacted to the news, Tozaru getting on his case about Lambo coming to the battle) Otherwise, he’s his happy loud confident self ready to tackle on anything for the sake of the family. Destroying the misfortune that attacks the family with their own body, the yarrow represents that duty well. For every bruise the younger one gets, Ryohei has the ability to heal it. For every fear, Ryohei tackles it first. Acting as a ward and protector for his family. Hibari Kyoya

Clematis (Etoile Violette)

Clematis is a climbing flower, to start with. One of those flowers that grow along walls and vines. It’s a very adaptable flower, able to work with various environments and thrive amongst them. They’re known as the traveler’s joy, meant to wish travelers good luck and act as protection to those who pass by them. While also having a more negative reputation, having “killed” other plants by outcompeting them considered having done the devil’s work. (The plant is actually considered invasive aha oops) The clematis though, itself represents mental fortitude, cleverness, and the ability to find hope in perilous situations. Hibari himself, I mean just that back and forth reputation is just him, no? Acting as Namimori’s protector, keeping a watchful eye on the town while also being utterly terrifying for Namimori students and almost overwhelming to those competing with him. (Dino will only find escape from Hibari in death, Mukuro is the same) But, he is also undoubtedly Vongola’s wall. Similar to Ryohei, not once throughout the series really and truly faltering. The clematis itself with its representation in mental fortitude can be given to someone when they need mental strength. I think the best way to represent this is directing you to that moment in Shimon arc when Tsuna, while not physical beaten, had been mentally tormented by everything that had happened and Hibari came to his battle to Adel. A simple, but strong “Little animal, your face right now is dull. Watch my fight.” It’s in that fight Tsuna gets his mental strength back, being given a hint to answer the question he’s been stressing and faltering over. Then there’s future arc, having been the only one TYL Tsuna trusted with the plan. Kokuyo Arc, Gokudera seeing an already defeated Hibari and taking him to the battle. Varia arc, the gang realizing that if Hibari is fighting next then they may have already won it and refusing to succumb to the poison in the sky battle. Rainbow arc, Tsuna considering them in that list of people he “just expects to help him.” He has the ability to be their hope, to be another factor of their strength. Where Ryohei is holding them up on the physical aspect, Hibari is absolutely their mental strength. (Isn’t it charming that the two eldest are the pillars of their group? I think it is). Also, in Hanakotoba, the clematis represents moral beauty and order. And that’s just the kinda man who could run something like the discipline committee, isn’t? The special thing, finally is that the etoile violette represents a sense of freedom from troubles. A free man, unchained himself and choosing to help those younger than him. Sometimes for the thrill of a battle, sometimes to actually help them with the reputation of a devil. Unpredictable, but still trusted.  It’s the sky that allows the clouds to roam freely, but even someday that sky will be beaten to death. 

Chrome Dokuro

Lupine (Blue Bonnet)

The Lupine flower is before anything else, a second chance at life. A recovery from one’s trauma and the admiration that comes from that. Its gratitude and kindness put into one. There’s a legend around the lupine flower about a land full of drought where Native Americans had believed would be saved by selflessness and yet no one had come forward to do anything, until a young girl came forward and offered the last of her possessions. The rain came to fall at her sacrifice, and hundreds of lupines had blossomed from the ground saving the tribe from drought and hunger as the seeds of the Lupine could be harvested to be eaten. The Lupine represents that the world will always give back if you are willing to help. Chrome, from her introduction, is told to be a girl who has nothing. With two parents who want nothing to do with her and no friends by her side. She runs forward to save a kitten and is gravely injured. With neither of her parents willing to help her, Chrome wonders if she is going to die here but is offered a deal by Mukuro. It’s here that Chrome is offered her second chance and she spends the whole series trying to return the favor to Mukuro. All while healing from her own trauma, the type of trauma that “no one could care about her”, as she is offered food and bonds from Tsuna, Kyoko, Haru, I-pin, Bianchi, Hibari, and so many others. It's in her second chance that she gets to experience what life truly had to offer her, as thank you for her continued selflessness. It’s that gratitude that she represents and the never-ending desire to give when she doesn’t accept Mukuro’s assistance anymore with her organs because she can no longer give him anything now that he’s out of Vindice Prison. She resolves that she will become someone who can protect the people she and Mukuro like. Her confidence isn’t perfect and she falters quite a bit, not believing that her powers are as great as those around her. But, that’s okay, because her goodness has brought her to people who have got her back until she can figure herself out. She has Mammon to correct her when her illusions are seen through that they are well made, but she’s just dealing with professionals and that’s why they’re seen through. There’s Tsuna who relies on her blindly, never doubting her strength to protect them as he asks her to act as defense during Shimon arc and protect Enma from his attack. Alongside with Fran, she is trusted to protect Yamamoto and Gokudera in the final battle against Vindice and taken with Tsuna against Jaegar. She has a lot of space to continue growing, but Lupin also represents voracity and happiness in Hanakotoba. She has her second chance to learn all about that, or as Mukuro put it to her, “An ending is merely the beginning of another cycle.”

Rokudo Mukuro

Aconitum (Wolfsbane)

Wolfsbane is also referred to as Monkshood. This is another one with pretty rich lore with its connection to werewolves. It’s referred to as “queens of the poisons” and has a pretty negative message to it on the outside. First of all, this thing’s poison? TOUGH AS HELL. Delirium, frothing at the mouth, vision impairment, and of course the classic coma<3 It’s got an uncanny resemblance to what rabies actually looks like. Fun, right? Okay, fr though onto its meaning. Wolfsbane is an omen that danger is nearby, not unlike the unnerving feeling Tsuna gets whenever he senses Mukuro nearby. Said to have come from Hell itself, the saliva that has dripped down from Cerberus himself. Not unlike our sweet boy. But, being an omen does not always represent something bad. Is he bringing the danger to you, or is he warning you of the true danger that lies past him? It’s a little bit of both. Aconitum represents concealed wisdom and caution in decision-making. But it also DOES represent protection, a proper and true warning of the dangers of the wild. That beauty does not always mean safe. For his twisted sense of vengeance and believing that taking over the world is the only way to destroy it for the sake of what was done to him, he isn’t necessarily wrong for being enraged about what happened to him. Yet, despite his hate, he doesn’t drag those who he cares about further down into it than he has to. He sends Ken and Chikusa away when they are going to get caught, he never uses Chrome for anything besides as a vessel to help her, and he says during Rainbow arc that if he forced Fran to continue past his limits he’d be no better than those nasty adults of his past. Aconitum balances sweetly between light and darkness, similar to Mukuro. He won’t admit it, but he cares for those amongst the Vongola. He infiltrates the Millefiore and sends the Vongola information after Tsuna’s death, he helps Chrome form a barrier around Enma so he could be safe from Tsuna’s X-Burner. And, of course he teams up with Vongola’s team during the rainbow arc. These are undoubtedly kind actions,  but when Tsuna gets angry at Mukuro during Rainbow claiming that he didn’t believe that Mukuro was the type to abandon his allies, Mukuro says that that was just his idea of him. Even though it was Chrome ultimately rejecting him, he instead pretended that he really was some big bad heartless person. Definitely, Mukuro is no angel, but also he’s no demon either. He’s.. just a human at the end. The aconitum’s dance with both light and dark, a flower that tries to warn, can be read both good and bad depending on how you look at it. His rejection of his ‘official’ position as part of the Mafia, yet acting as the Vongola Mist Guardian when their goals align. He’s as confusing as the duty he embodies, but he succeeds nonetheless in ensuring the family is untouchable in his deceptions. After all, the best way to fool your enemies is to fool your allies first.

kindness, first and foremost. you must be a kind person, someone willing to help others. he’s met all kinds of personalities, but above all they all come together when help is needed. that goes for a partner. especially because as a kid he was treated so roughly; someone who is nice is the foundation of a perfect partner for him.

“Tsuna, I brought you some food.”

You held up a plate with a couple pastries on it and Tsuna hummed lowly. “Thank you, dear. You didn’t have to.”

“You haven’t taken a break in a few hours now, so of course I did. You can’t focus if you’re hungry.”

You only smiled when Reborn made a low noise, something like amusement. “Perhaps you coddle him too much? What would he do without you?”

“Ehh, I think it’s fine to coddle him a little bit!”

You set the plate down gently on Tsuna’s desk after he made some space for it. “Right? You’ll let me coddle you, won’t you?”

Tsuna pet one of your hands gently before taking it in his and squeezing. “Thank you. If you’d like to, you can. I appreciate it.”

“Yay. If you need anything, just ask.”

“I will, thank you.”

gentle, but confident. once he gets older, and has been with you for a while, there’s no hesitation in his kisses, or any of his actions. after a while, he becomes comfortable and thus does not need to worry about what he does, especially because he learns quickly what you do and don’t like as well

“I found you. Have you eaten yet?”

You turned to smile at Tsuna as he entered the kitchen, one of his arms slipping around your waist comfortably. “No, not yet. Why?”

You tilted your head without any instruction to, like habit, and Tsuna pressed a kiss to your lips with a pleased hum. It was short, and you followed him when he pulled away. His soft laugh could be felt on your lips.

“I wanted to come get you so we could go get lunch together, if that’s okay.”

“Of course it is.”

chai tea; how do they spice up their relationship?

assuming his partner can’t fight, he probably doesn’t take you many places with him when it comes to jobs, missions, etcetera. so I think he would fix this by taking you on specific trips overseas that are unrelated to work; if it’s unrelated there’s less chance people know where you’ll be and he gets to spend more intimate time with you, so it’s a win-win. the best one was obviously taking you to Namimori for the first time

“Ahh, what a cute, quaint town! It’s so nice here.”

Tsuna watched you rock back and forth as you looked out the window of your hotel, taking in the town again after you’d gone exploring earlier in the day.

“I’m a little jealous of you all. What a nice place to be raised in.”

“Mm, I agree. I think it’s a great place to raise a family.” He paused for a moment. “I had fun growing up here.”

You hummed lowly, thinking over his short pause carefully. You straightened, pushing off the windowsill to turn and face him, leaning back against it.

“I bet it was! Haha, thinking of you all running around causing trouble for everyone… Makes me wish I could’ve met you all sooner.”

He smiled widely at this, head tilting. He stepped closer when you waved at him too, crowding you up against the window. You happily grabbed his coat and tugged him down closer, lips ghosting over his.

“I think you would have fit in well with our little group,” he murmured. “But we can make new memories now, so it’s fine, isn’t it?”

“Right. We can start right now, too. Indulge me?”

“Of course.”

Angst tropes I'm a sucker? Oh let's see... Hayato has one of the main of it, a broken heart from a past love. TYL Takeshi has, slowly physically gotten ill and of course depressed. There is also the one where the loved one is slowly dying that is really *chef kiss*. I also love love love, one-sided love! Basically those.

Everything in excess can be overwhelming after a while. The key point is that my, after a while... Takes a bit longer. Mostly because when I write angst I project the pain I'm feeling and thus I feel happy while writing. Which... Makes this process really long for me to burn out. So I guess... I thrive on angst?

... Don't make me pick... Don't make me pick... FUCK. I don't know honestly... I would recommend looking at 80daysofrain tag in my blog, or in the loyalrighthand blog... Whiskeysmulti020 tag is also one of the top favorite angst threads. There was... Once a naturalborn-hitman thread that was also my favorite. FUCK... Basically, before the hiatus, i played a lot of 8059 and that was the root of a lot of my angst threads but now... Hm... OOOOH I KNOW one that is also 1859 LOL. I had threads with Kouhai muses where Dera had one-side love for her OC, who was in love with Shu's Tsuna. That was fun... Fuck... I had so many fun angst threads. I'm slowly creating a new selection tho. Since except the one with Whiskey, are all old threads xD. PS: Gimme reason for angst Yuni. That is also my dream ~.

Hm… I’ve already spoken at length about your portrayals before and I’d prefer to add on newer content than to repeat old content so… let’s focus on some of your other muses that I didn’t touch on the last time that I feel comfortable in talking about.

I personally don’t write with him or send anything to him (as we know), but others do and sometimes you write meta posts for him as well, which I read.

Random trivia is that I worked on this in the opposite order lol so I’m writing this section last and I’m already so tired and my back is PAIN so let’s try to make this less painful for me as I try to be quick about it.

In general, I’ve never threaded with him, but others have sent in things for him or threaded with him. You seem to focus on the more darker and closed off aspect of him, but still balance it out with the fact that he’s willing to put up with things for not only his ideals, but also because of Chrome. His care for Chrome is evident in the fact that he puts up with the Vongola and not actively disparaging them too much for them being Mafia. It’s utterly evident the disdain he has when interacting with other mafia because (as we know) he hates them. So, there are some exceptions that can be made.

He’s an incredibly nuanced and intricate character to understand and write for. I don’t think I’ve noticed much of the creepy-ish aspect of him. Like the shadiness and the intense lengths he’s willing to go to fulfill his goals (ie taking over the body of his friends, taking over the body of a random child, etc). It’s these kinds of actions that really unnerve me and hence I don’t like him because it just creeps me out from a ‘aldksjfalsdfk that’s medium-key scary if you really think about it’ standpoint. I don’t think I’ve noticed the same kind of vibe too much from the interactions you’ve had.

Though, I suppose with TYL, perhaps that was toned down some due to the tools and abilities he has at his disposal now. With Chrome, he’s more or less more human when he’s around her, and the shady, nefarious vibes are less. That’s likely why I haven’t noticed it much. That’s great for me, because I see him doing something shady (I include smirking in this category bc Amano has a way of drawing his smirks in such a way that it unnerves me) and I instantly want to just fly away. I appreciate him as a character, love the way he fits into the story and is such an integral part to the story-telling of KHR… but he makes my jimmies go crazy and I NO LIKE.

For the interactions I’ve seen, I think you’re doing well with him. I can only assume I’d see more of what I deem ‘creepy vibes’ if he were to interact with some other characters, but I’m also the ‘Nope don’t wanna see it, actively will shut off my eyes’… so… yeah. I call it self-preservation instincts. I’m a big pansy, yes. Truly, him shooting himself in the head really cemented him in my heart as: I DO NOT LIKE HIM, HE SCARES ME, HE IS TOO INTENSE FOR MY LIL BABY HEART. DON’T LOOK AT ME SCARY PINEAPPLE MAN.

Hmm… we don’t interact much with Tsuna and Haru (for reasons that you and I both know), but given what I know, I do think it’s an interesting take for Tsuna in some regards. Like the idea that he did possibly notice Haru, but also pretty much doubt the fact that her feelings were real/would last long. In a sense, she was like a back up almost. An interesting take indeed, and that isn’t to say that I dislike it or anything like that. Just not a take that I think I’ve seen anyone else take so far, which makes it fascinating.

Given some of the instances seen in canon and the little hints of people making references to him taking more interest in her/noticing her, there is some weight to the thought so it’s fun to think about. It sort of works with the fact that he’s so socially ill-adapted due to being so alone for a lot of his formative years, he’s not very good at understanding all of the social aspects or being comfortable in a strong social environment. He’s still pretty young though, so he can learn.

It is that lack in sociability that does hinder some of the way he interacts with people or understands them. I’ve said it before that I personally think that is one of the reasons why he’s never really denied Haru outright in the series or rejected her because he didn’t want to hurt her, he didn’t know how to, and he likely thought that if he avoided the situation altogether, she’d eventually move on anyways. I don’t know if he understood the hurt that may have come along with it, however. We also talked about the hyper-intuition thing, so that’s likely a reason he may not have known, because he didn’t think about it.

So how would he know if he didn’t think to know about it. I do think it’s fascinating how your Tsuna tends to anger Haru somewhat often lol. In some ways it’s unfamiliar, and it may come off as out of character for him, BUT HEAR ME OUT FIRST(!), that I personally think it’s more in line of who Tsuna should’ve been. Hyper-intuition can only help so much, and for a guy who canonically has been stated to have like no friends, and barely talked to any girls up until he talked to Kyoko by sheer coincidence—he really should’ve been making more mistakes when dealing with people, I think.

He should’ve struggled more to pick up on social cues, or misunderstand them. We did see a little bit of that with the Yamamoto roof scene where Tsuna kind of spoke thoughtlessly because he just wanted to say something to Yamamoto, but we know how that turned out. Given his setting, I truly think that there should’ve been a bit more in the realm of Tsuna just messing up with social interactions and bonding with people properly. Perhaps it’s just the fact that he’s the tsukkomi so there wasn’t a need to really showcase that- but we do know he does say some stupid things sometimes because he doesn’t realize how it can come off. ‘dId yOu eAt YaKiSOba?’ << See, he can say stupid shit too and just really get it so wrong from a sociability standpoint.

Like, I expected more things where he says something, intending something, but someone else takes it the wrong way. Idk SOMETHING but it really felt more like… he just assimilated so quickly to having friends and accepting them into his life so quickly. Sure, he did have moments where he’d doubt the friendship (ie ‘Gokudera-kun is going to be so disappointed in me now’) but it was really a lot less than I expected.

Before anyone says it, NO, I did not expect for Tsuna to go second guessing all of his friendships or anything, but it really felt like the fact that he was a loner for so long got overlooked and glossed over. I suppose we can try to chalk it up to quick adaptability and hyper-intuition.

ESSENTIALY!!! I actually kinda find it refreshing that Tsuna does mess up with Haru and sometimes give off the wrong meaning because he’s just --- dumb, socially. He’s learning, it’s a learning curve. Like, he clearly meant well by congratulating Haru on her relationship with Dera, but the way he went about it, just sparked her ire because it’s like read the room, did you really have to say it like that? It just feels more organic with the way he messed up because it shows better how it didn’t occur to him how it could’ve hurt her the way he went about congratulating her as her first failed love. Some of these things come with experience of dealing with people.

Sure, he has a lovely way of pissing her off in a lot of interactions, but it’s kinda fun. It feels a lil different from Tsuna canonically, but I do think it feels more organic and real- which is what I like. So, I like the way you go about writing him.

I haven’t really seen all that much of him, but I have seen a small bit here and there, especially with the guest appearance in the ‘arranged au.’ I’ve noticed you tend to stick with his more serious and calm side than some of his more troll tendencies. By no means is that a bad thing, just an observation that I made.

In other words, you focus on the more serious side of him, where it gives the feel of staying truer to the mafia-aspects of things rather than the more troll anime-mafia kinda vibe that Amano gave off, which is fun. He’s still very serious about training Tsuna, molding him to be the best boss that he can be, and he takes good care of Tsuna’s circle. No matter how useful or important in the grand scheme of things someone may or may not be to the Vongola 10, he will look out for them and ensure they’re okay because that’s what Tsuna would want.

I think that was handled well in that thread, especially with how it was Reborn that was giving Gokudera the warning to treat her well and to not do something stupid, else he’ll regret it. Tsuna of course cares for his friends and would exact revenge should anything happen to any of them, but he’s also not the one to openly and so bluntly threaten/warn someone if they hadn’t given any reason to make him be wary of them. Out of fighting mode, he does usually retain the passive attitude, so he wouldn’t have been the one to give a warning, but Reborn who knows him well and knows his stance was the one to issue the warning.

It may seem like a minor detail, but it’s very in line with their dynamic. Not sure if you did it that way on purpose or not, but I liked that touch for that reason. Him walking off right after that warning/threat was also just very like him. It feels more poignant when you threaten and then leave. It’s a more lasting impression that way, I feel as it gives the feel of ‘I’m done here so I am just going to go regardless of how you may be feeling at the moment. It gives very little in the ways of showing Gokudera if his answer was satisfactory or not, gives everyone in the room little time to process the exchange between the two as he just leaves them- which is a lowkey power move. Shows who has the upper hand as he’s the one who chose to end the conversation right then and there and no one could argue against him. No one tried to make him stay or anything.

That shows just how much respect he commands within the Vongola 10 and how strong an influence he is. He did more of the talking than Tsuna did perhaps, given the way that the thread was structured at the time, which would lead me to believe that perhaps this was a lil show for Tsuna to show him how to handle such situations like these moving forwards. To Gokudera’s point, it would be a show of that ‘he may be a tutor, but he commands a lot of sway within the Vongola 10. He is able to dictate the conversation and help with the decision-making. Tsuna hasn’t argued against him or anything, so it shows how much trust he has in Reborn and that is a well-orchestrated and silent display of their dynamic.

It's in the action and the words that really spell out how you view the dynamic between the two and I think it’s a pretty good fit for how they are in canon. I mean, whether or not these were conscious decisions or were coincidental circumstance is irrelevant. Either way, it worked out well and is a very convincing portrayal. Look at me, sometimes I go off by puuuureee instinct and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Hi there! Got a sort of 2 part question. I know TYL is a self-insert, but in your head, when do you picture Rosebud’s birthday to be? Her age? (In either the past or present)

So I’ve never given much thought to how old Rosebud is, considering that it’s mostly a bunch of 20 somethings reading it (and writing it lol) but more and more people have been asking…

In the context of the story, I would put Rose at maybe seven or eight years younger than Joel, meaning she’s around 48-49. They would have met when she was 27 and Joel was 34. Of course I know most people are self-inserting so if Rosebud’s eternally 27 in their eyes, so be it haha

so interesting that this is what being a "small animal" means to him. and of course that he calls tsuna that. and even if in the panel right before these ones he says "i'm not with him", he so clearly is and has been for a long time now, and it's precisely because he sees tsuna as a small animal. sees him taking on more than he can bear, and so he takes part of that burden to bear himself so it won't crush him. hears him crying out for help and doesn't look away, doesn't act as if he didn't hear it. answers his call.

because that's what the strongs do, right? that's something only the strongs can afford to do, and so it makes it their responsibility to do it. and also because he can't let tsuna be crushed by all that weight on his shoulders before he reaches the full potential he sees in him, before he finds fangs of his own (< or whatever the exact phrasing he used during the varia arc was lol, you know the line i'm talking about).

it's such a rare treat to see hibari confused and not sure of himself in or in control of any given situation, but he's nothing but confused in his fight against genkishi, and it's the cutest he's been so far tbh.

also it's super funny (and he's even more hilarious than usual) and made me realize that whether he's confused or not, he's at the very least always out of the loop of what's actually going on because he's always so dismissive of everything he doesn't care about, i.e, will he get to fight someone strong, and did anyone break namimori middle's rules he has to bite to death, and is anyone trying to boss him around he has to bite to death. and it's literally it, he does not care about getting any type of context whatsoever any more than that, and even actively makes damn sure no one can fill him in like with dino during the varia arc because he's a little shit. and would probably make himself forget on the spot even if someone did manage to fill him in on the situation, because he does not care.

and it's super hilarious to think about what he thinks is going on at literally any time? like, i would pay money to have his pov on everything that happens in the manga. does he think everything that happened since mukuro was other schools picking a fight with nami middle the way it technically was with mukuro tbf with him? did he think the varia were some kind of gang targetting nami middle or something? did he even realized yet that tsuna is a don-to-be and that dino is an actual don? does he even know what vongola is yet, or does he think everyone always talks about clams a whole fucking lot for some reasons, and maybe he should make it against nami middle's rules too because it's annoying?

like, he time travels to the future, and his priorities are 1) yams lying beaten on the ground (not for the right reasons lol, but this one is still valid of him), 2) genkishi's eyebrows being against nami middle's rules, and 3) kusakabe ordering him around, without a single thought spared to, you know, the obvious time-travel he's just gone through.

like, for tsuna khr is him getting dragged into mafia business times and times again, but for hibari it's probably, like. people keeping starting beef with nami middle, but it's fine because they're strong and he gets to have fun biting them to death LMAO. this is so fucking funny??

hibari is literally the funniest character in this manga hands-down, he wouldn't be caught dead giving a single fuck about anything ever, bless him

but what ABOUT a khr au where the arco are tsuna’s guardians tho?? where they speedrun him through his growth with all their chaos, seven little not-babies menaces running around and stretching his sanity very thin, but going batshit crazy whenever anyone else even only mildly inconveniences him. batshit crazy in the murder way of course. also tsuna is low-key insane himself, as a treat.

anyway i think this is how they'd meet:

REBORN

okay so let’s just put aside the fact that tsuna is the last vongola heir for a bit, but of course they still meet. reborn is in namimori for one random hit or another, and he just so happens to cross paths with tsuna. tsuna who’s walking home from yet another day of bullying at school by both teachers and students, and looks miserable and pathetic, and the way he holds himself all hunched up over himself and ducking his head because god forbid he makes eye contact with anyone and looking around him like something will jump on him from nowhere and everywhere tell reborn everything he needs to know about what kind of pitiful life he lives, but. he still catches his attention.

so he purposefully walks past him to test him and test the waters in his best “i’m just a normal baby” impression, and tsuna. tsuna does a fearful, wary double take that seals his fate, because reborn? reborn goes “oh, he’s a too beautiful diamond in the rough to be left unpolished.”

he shows up the next day at his door, says he’s a tutor and he’s here for him.

“you’re a baby,” tsuna says, with too much wariness and disbelief he shouldn’t have the self awareness to have.

“let me in, i wasn’t asking,” reborn says.

“i’d still rather not.”

reborn gets in somehow, and by the time tsuna needs to make sense of that (he doesn’t), reborn has already charmed his mom with a gentlemanly bow and removal of his hat as a greeting, and a “what a lovely home”, and a “this is truly some delicious coffee”, and a “under my guidance, your son’s grades will noticeably improve within only a month, and i only ask for a roof and food in exchange.”

tsuna sits across from him at the kitchen’s table, because what else is there to do at this point?

“did you ever try killing one of them?” reborn asks him casually out of the blue. “i think it’d significantly improve your obvious, deep self-esteem issues, and your life in general.”

and the first words out of tsuna’s mouth are “i mean, it would, but--”

reborn stays. (of course he was always going to stay, but this? he wouldn’t miss on this for anything in the world.)

COLONNELLO

i like to think that wherever one of the arco goes, at some point or another all the arco end up there too and make it everyone else’s problem, so of course one day colonnello just bursts through tsuna’s window, all guns blazing and aimed at reborn, triggering reborn’s traps around his sleeping place, and suddenly there’s bombs exploding in tsuna’s bedroom. of course reborn responds to colonnello in kind and more.

tsuna screeches screams, falling from his bed, then scrambles for cover for literal dear life as reborn and colonnello use his bedroom as a battlefield. his clumsy, flailing limbs and panic make it harder to get under his desk, the bullets wheezing past him and reborn and colonnello using him as foothold which will definitely leave bruises not helping, and almost like they’re doing it on purpose (reborn totally does).

colonnello eventually deigns noticing him once reborn and him are done saying hello to each other. he raises his eyebrow. “you got a kid?”

“i found him,” reborn says.

he’s more like a pet, really, tsuna hears loud and clear, and you know what? he’s okay with that. he’s really not ready to deal with the implications and expectations of being reborn’s kid just yet. being his pet is a hell of a lot less stressful, and reborn is making his life pretty damn stressful as it is already.

“hi,” he greets colonnello. “maybe next time you can use the door? it’s something pretty common over here a lot of us have. maybe you can even knock? it’s just kind of seen as the polite thing to do, you know.”

colonnello laughs, startled and delighted. “you’re literally hiding under your desk right now, where the fuck does that sass come from?”

“i know, right?” reborn says. “he’s full of surprises.”

“yeah, i can see why you like him.”

tsuna thinks he’s having a stroke when he meets fon. thinks he’s looking at hibari who somehow was turned into a baby, and is freaking out too much to really notice the red pacifier around his neck and getting to the calming conclusion he’s just another one of reborn’s friends. thinks he’s looking at hibari who’s so pissed by having been turned into a baby, he’s smiling.

“hello,” fon says, bowing his head, and tsuna thinks it’s hibari genuinely being nice with him.

he faints right there and then in the street.

do you ever think about how absolutely horrifying reborn being the world's greatest hitman is. about what a monster it makes him, like, in a fundamental, intrinsic way, what a monster it makes him at the very core of who he is, even if he clearly learned to reign it in, even if he's built himself a good enough humane mask other people can believe in and believe him when he says and acts as if he still cares about what being human means, even when most days now he can barely remember the times he actually did, if they were ever such times.

it's like. amano shonen-ed the whole mafia thing so to speak with the power of friendship and found family even through deaths and blood and violence, so much so the deaths and blood and violence ended up merely being props to the power of friendship and found family, so much so she ended up portraying the mafia positively enough--or at the very least implying that positive side it could have strongly enough, canonically and narratively whenever we're reminded of reborn being the world's greatest hitman, we're always told we're supposed to be impressed by it, to respect him for that, that he's a standard other characters have the right idea to strive for and can only hope to come close to one day. like, remember his fight against iemitsu? when he says iemitsu fought countless battles to protect his family, but much less than himself, and he's actually praising the both of them, because reborn has reached the greatest heights of being a mafiosi and we're supposed to find that commendable, when what he actually says is that he's slaughtered countless that dared to pose a threat to him and what he cares about, but how would we ever know if they were actually a legitimate threat and if the lengths he might have gone to dispose of them were even remotely warranted or fathomable from a human point of view if you know what i mean, and even if they were, like, the sheer numbers of them--

do you just. ever think about what being an arco means? about what earned them that title, the path they walked on so far and so well they earned themselves that title, and what it means that they did. not necessarily for all of them of course, because being the smartest person in the world doesn't have to mean at all you brought that intellect into the darkest human places there are, and being the world's greatest stuntman doesn't give you much opportunities to go to these places to begin with, but reborn, my god. he's the world's greatest hitman. the world's greatest hitman. and he prides himself so much on it, is so casual about it.

do--do you--do you just ever think about it? and go a little crazy about it? and lose your whole goddamn mind over it--

Okay okay but yes!! I loved the show so much! From the first ep to last ep, it had me on chokehold! And the writers did the great job in creating suspense, because you bet I was wrong about who was the Hyde and Laurel Gates lol. I was so convinced it was Xavier and her therapist 😭😭😭 Until ep 7, when she died 💀💀💀 also that there was still an episode left, but I wasn't expecting at all it was Tyler lmfao

When Wednesday kissed Tyl*r and realised he was the Hyde and she said of course her first kiss is with psychotic serial killer monster I took that monster part as a grain salt of hope, that indirectly it also counts Enid ahshsjajajaj and one day we will see something happen between the two <3

lol the panic when he sees Kyoko and finds out she's going with him, beautiful.

Yes, Tsuna it's pretty much a date, you're actually going somewhere alone with the girl you like for once.

Though again, this chapter turns out comedic in the end, it does show he liked Kyoko all along and from his perspective she comes across as the perfect girl. Because the plot of KHR is from Tsuna's perspective. This of course isn't Kyoko's true personality, this is just Tsuna seeing her perfectly because he has a crush on her.

Also something to note on Kyoko, she's more perceptive than people give her credit for. She's already figured out Tsuna saw someone he recognized even though he's panicking and trying to act cool and telling her he didn't see anything.

They then end up running around the whole zoo because they keep running into other Vongola members (Dera getting in a fight, Bianchi trying to steal the animals for cooking, Ryohei trying to fight the animals) which would seem tiring and boring, but Kyoko then says this.

"That was so much fun."

But while Tsuna's starting to gush and go into his fantasy depiction of Kyoko, the lions got loose because of Gokudera. (Ironic because we find out TYL Tsuna's box weapon is Natsu the lion.)

Which is foreshadowed here with Reborn saying he wanted Tsuna to pick a suitable pet like how Reborn has Leon.

Kyoko then says that with Tsuna's appearance she always thought a squirrel or hamster was best, but now she sees he's more reliable than that. Reborn assigns Tsuna a lion, which mentioned above is all setting up for the animal box weapons in later arcs. Kinda cool how Amano put these little details in and at the time most of us probably didn't even think about it being a set up for later in the series.

2023 fandom rambling

2023 was really the year of going back to my roots aka my 2000s favs. been rereading KHR, DGM, 666 Satan, Psyren, DOGS, rewatched ParaKiss, replayed Zero Escape VLR and at the tail end of it I'm back into TeniPuri. I didn't draw a lot for them in 2023 but I sure was reading lol.

gonna try to bring all my old cosplays back in 2024 cus wtf.

I mean I'm already working on TYL!Bel cus I made his teen version in the late 2000s - early 2010s, it only feels fitting. I also made a TYL version at the time but we don't talk about that nightmare. It was so bad lmfao.

And Lavi was my first-ever cosplay back in 2008. It's funny as fuck that I met my first girlfriend because we were both cosplaying him at the same con and we collected every version of him, we even had the Deak version. I only knew one of the other Lavi-cosplayers beforehand cus of a mutual on LJ. It was a blast.

Finally FINALLY cosplayed from 666 Satan in 2023 with my friend Ren. Only been planning on doing so since the late 2000s. It felt so exciting to finally do it. Cross and Jio were finally done, even if my boot zipper decided to fucking BREAK right when I needed it lmao. The timing was so awful, god damn. Already at the con and everything. Learning how to make Cross' wings was a trip.

I found my old Heine jacket from when me, Ren and my gf at the time (aforementioned fellow Lavi cosplayer) cosplayed Heine, Badou and Naoto. It was crumbling. Faux leather doesn't hold as well, does it? In 2023 me and twin got to tear up grampa's old red leather couch though and you know what that means? I'm gonna try to remake Heine's jacket in 2024 using real leather taken from that old couch. The back was still smooth and completely useable. And with how many seams are in that jacket the pieces don't need to be big.

As for Tenipuri the wig I had for Shiraishi was terrible, you remember early 2000's ebay wigs and how THICK they were. I had a Sengoku wig but I gave it away to a friend who needed a last minute wig for Yata from Psycho-Pass (I'm pretty sure) cus my head looked gigantic in it cus of how thick it was, and Yata wears a beanie so it wasn't as noticeable lol. I still have like 5 different Bunta wigs oops. Cus none were 100% what I wanted until the last one.

As I mentioned. Early 2000s ebay wigs. Quality shit.

Summer 2024 I'm planning on cosplaying Clover from Zero Escape. I am so fucking psyched. Oohhh Gokudera’s Sistema C.A.I.! Looks pretty good I think? Pretty similar to the anime

I’m also very curious about the text on Yamamoto’s shirt. It’s most likely “Famiglia” in the bottom, but what’s on top? “...areo...”? Weareone Famiglia?

And then of course there’s the new Hibari actor! Going by this visual, it feels like he’ll also be playing the TYL!Hibari.🤔Somehow I can already imagine him as TYL!Hibari in a yukata with that pose lol. It’s always sad when a cast gets replaced, but hopefully he’ll be able to get into his role quickly!

my guy i have not done a full read of khr in maybe two years and i know that does not sound like a long time but i have the long-term memory of a fruit fly. please bear with me. luckily for both of us i liveblogged the last time i read so i at least have my own sparknotes jdflaksjddaf

first off! khr is a satire manga!!! i cannot stress this enough, i can and will fight you to the death about this!!! “oh but it gets serious later” it grows a PLOT, thats not the same thing. khr is stupid as hell and that is both on purpose and my favorite thing about it.

i fucking love shonen man!!! its all about FIGHTING and LOVING YOUR FRIENDS and HAVING EMOTIONS and. bro im a water sign. my mars is in gemini, there is nothing i can do about this, god made me and said “get that bitch some found family and also some incredible violence” and we all just have to live with that. 

khr is so much all of those things that i did not realize they were being made fun of until very long after the fact so my current opinions are very much not the ones i started with jaldkhjdfhd but man. once i clued in i both loved it so much more and became 100% incapable of interacting with fandom in any meaningful way L M A O

i just. the main conceit is that theyve weaponized the deus ex machina eleventh-hour shonen power up. the “my dead family came back to life to kill me” trope is used three separate times. the big bad student body president is a delinquent. theres an entire subset of above magic god powers thatre just

like DO YOU EVEN REMEMBER that time tsuna experienced a villain’s flashback sequence FOR HIM because i fucking do, i think about it every day,

so in the sense of “please critique the writing”, i cant do that because im pretty sure 98% of all the tropey bullshit is by design. do i wish people like the kokuyo gang got more characterization outside of being ride-or-die villain sidekicks?? of course i do but thats my own damn fault for seeing cool side characters and losing all higher brain function. on the other hand, hibari being the person he is and having absolutely no backstory or motivation beyond “get out of my school” is really fucking funny and keeps me warm at night, so. win some, lose some.

(the 2% of the writing that isnt tropey bullshit that i CAN critique is whatever is happening with kyoko. Bad Female Cast is definitely a shonen trope but its a shitty one and i want it to die. within maybe four minutes of kyoko being introduced she tries to body a man and then thats just never spoken about again?? wheres that energy queen?!!! let kyoko say fuck!!!!)

((this applies to haru too in the sense that all she really does is make moon eyes at tsuna but the way in which she does so is honestly so fucking funny and unhinged that it comes back around to being great. like yeah yep yes ma’am thats 100% bonafide Girl Who Throws Skittles In A Puddle And Calls It Potion right there please may i have another))

If khr took itself even 4% more seriously it could be really deep and compelling and i think that frustrates a lot of people, but i think i like it better this way?? half the fun for me is reading in between the lines!! the subtext, however unintentional it may be!!

examples: yamamoto is one of my favorites just because theres SO FUCKING MUCH to unpack about him!! canon gives us a lot of information about him just by virtue of the fact that he’s a Main Character, but paradoxically he himself is never really the focus. he just Does Shit and you have to figure out why on your own and i LOVE DOING THAT.

i dont love mukuro because he’s a fleshed out and nuanced villain, i love him because he says shit like “i went to hell six times” and never expounds upon that or “i can definitely trust the information i got from this magic monocle called Demon Spade’s Super Evil Murder Eye or whatever the fuck” and then expresses surprise when daemon spade is an asshole. he goes and willfully fucks up the only job anyones ever given him (impersonate 80 year old leonardo lippi) because he Just Has to shapeshift into a young hot dude and hand deliver byakuran, the boss of the Flower Family, the Family that names all its members after Flowers, a bouquet that means “i am in disguise ;) cant catch me bitch ;)”

first and foremost, someone who can look after Tsuna, and is loyal to the Vongola. so unless you’re apart of the Vongola, it likely wouldn’t happen. someone who can handle themselves and doesn’t need coddling, and can handle prolonged times alone. he tries to make up for it, but it’s required sometimes

“Oh, haha, found you! Shocker.”

Hayato huffed, brushing you off as you entered Tsuna’s office with a flutter of paperwork.

You offered your boss a kind smile, bowing your head in greeting. “Decimo. Make sure to look after yourself today. It looks like a busy one.”

Tsuna glanced at his growing stack of paperwork, and you snorted. “Thank you… I’ll try. Likewise; don’t push yourself.”

You waved him off with the stack of paper in your hand, blowing his hair back a touch. “Not to worry. Desk work is my forte, Decimo. It’s not a bother at all to be able to help you.”

Once handing him the paper you turned to face Hayato, nudging him with your foot. He glanced up from what he was reading, an eyebrow lifted. You seemed to be in a good mood.

Hayato rubbed his temple quietly, staring at the child in your arms. He was incredibly familiar, and he could feel a headache starting to grow.

He could largely tolerate Lambo now that he was older. He still was no good with him as a child.

“Just happened while we were talking outside,” you spoke up, moving your arms to keep Lambo balanced as he scaled you. He liked to climb, the little bastard.

Hayato pulled a face, and you laughed lightly. “Kids really aren’t that bad, you know.”

“Not him.”

“Isn’t he an outlier or something? Like, statistically speaking here, he’s one in a hundred. Or some number like that.”

You reached back and caught Lambo against your back before he could fall, bringing him back to your front.

“You look pretty comfortable.”

I’ve decided to turn subtitles back on for watching TV shows for the time being. It’s been good to test my listening by turning them off (and sometimes they can be more distracting than helpful!) but I feel like I need to work on my vocabulary more, so it helps to have subtitles on so can note down new words to look up afterwards. It’s great that I no longer need them to understand the main points of any given TV show, but I want to do more than just get the gist of things; the goal is to understand more or less everything!

My italki session this week went better. I still felt like everything was badly-worded but I actually managed to speak this time. I’m still not sure whether to keep using both tutors and alternate each week (a lil expensive, but they challenge me in different ways and two weeks feels like quite a while to go between sessions) or just drop down to one. Or maybe try some others out. Thing is I had a little look at other tutors but they’re either really expensive (like fuck am I gonna pay £20-£40 for a lesson), don’t have time slots that suit me or just don’t give off the right vibe (seriously the number of intro videos I’ve clicked on and gone “nope” within the first 10 seconds is ridiculous, guess I’m picky about tutors lmao). I’m kinda happy with the ones I have anyway, so I guess there’s no real need to try out any others rn.

Also, I’ve written an absurd amount of Norwegian fiction this past week. I doubt I’ll be able to keep it up, but it was quite nice to get into the flow of writing and smash my “write 5000 words of fiction” goal I made at the start of the year. I’m tempted to see if I can make it to 10K now. Of course, it’s all garbage: I’m sure the grammar’s wrong and the dialogue sounds unnatural (not to mention I have to look up at least one thing every time I sit down to write), but I think it might be a good way for me to do first drafts, because I don’t care so much about making it “good” and more about just getting my ideas down.

Oh, and I finally finished my book! I might try writing a review later this week :)

I’ve chilled out a bit with Japanese this week. I’m enjoying learning kanji, but I feel like it’s time I started learning some grammar and actually stringing some sentences together. I’m tempted to ask for a textbook for Christmas. But I’m also kinda missing Spanish atm so idk whether to go back to learning that? And I still miss Finnish. Idk, we’ll see. Anyway, I plan to work a bit more with Duolingo this week so I can try to learn some vocabulary in context and some actual whole sentences.

Favourite moment: Realising I could still write all the hirigana and katakana from memory after not drilling them all week

ah so... 14 is “passionately”, but I really didn’t want to do the sexual kind of passionate for a couple reasons lol. (passionately; in a way that shows strong feelings or beliefs.) one is because I’m not confident with those kinds of settings skfndkd and also the other is just bc I’m not entirely sure how okay I am with writing them is all (I guess TYL would’ve been fine but hhhh oh well my idea was for present anyway). that being said, I hope you still like my take on it! list here!

She was seriously so flexible.

Just watching how she would bend, and do all the amazing flips and spins and rolls she did blew him away.

It was incredible to see athletes in their own respective sport performing for an actual tournament. It’s something that filled him with appreciation for not just his own sport, but everything else, too.

Gymnastics had never particularly been something he thought about too often, but when she’d asked him to attend, claiming it’d definitely motivate her to win, he couldn’t really refuse.

Takeshi shifted in his seat almost nervously when Haru’s scores were being announced, while her parents couldn’t keep their own anxiety nearly as in check from beside him.

He’d absentmindedly realised this was the first, second, time he’d met them? Ah well.

Hazel eyes lit up when his body reacted to Haru’s parents cheering faster than it could react to the actual score.

Once Haru had received her medal, and photos had been taken, she rushed over to her parents without much thought, beaming as they praised her before she even reached them.

She practically glowed when they complimented her, and congratulated her on her win.

She turned with an encouraging tap to her shoulder from her mother, and her grin grew impossibly wider.

She ran forward, and Takeshi laughed when she jumped, making sure to catch her so they wouldn’t tip over.

She held his cheeks, a dusty pink colouring her own. “Did you see me, Yamamoto?! I won! I definitely knew it was because you came to cheer me on!”

He returned her grin tenfold, hefting her up a touch so she wouldn’t slip out of his hold. “Of course! I’d expect nothing less from you, Haru! Congratulations!”

She squished his cheeks together a little more, and his nose scrunched up, his eyes crinkling as he laughed again.

He carefully set her down onto her feet, though he was sure she’d probably land even if he just dropped her. Her balance had to be the best out of everyone he knew, for sure.

“Oh, Haru! Let’s get a photo of you two!”

Haru whined loudly at her mother’s cooing, but Takeshi insisted on her getting some solo photos with her medal first.

When he was waved closer to their daughter, he wrapped an arm around her shoulders tightly, tilting his head to rest just slightly against her own.

She held up her medal with both hands, and her parents had to wonder if they’d ever seen her grin so brightly before.

All her love, and passion, and care had been poured into her performance, and it was now pouring from her in everything she did and said.

It simply touched their hearts that her “friend” shared her love for her sport nearly as much as she did. She deserved that much, at least.
