Marya has always been told Wayfarers on a ship bring bad luck. Her parents were rather insistent on it. She had no way of testing these claims, of course, as in all her years of sailing, there haven't been any Wayfarers on board until now. Two elf-shaped magical voids roaming along the deck.

She has to admit she's curious. Who wouldn't be? She prays every night the ship doesn't suddenly sink of course, but the skies have been clear, seas calm and after two weeks, she gets used to seeing them around. Her anxieties soothed, she can now observe from a busy distance.

She hears them before she sees them. One of them, the taller one, always seems to be involved in some kind of conversation. Not that he really needs announcing that way; it's hard to miss him even when he's quiet, even when he covers that red hair of his under scarfs. Between the freckles and the height, it's difficult to not see him from the corner of your eye. He sings often, not caring for the quality, he laughs even more so, expressive, mocking, contagious.

She asked for his name, once. The question seemed to surprise him.

"Cassander Inteus," he said, a bit more softly than usual. When she went back to her work, she swore she saw him look back with prying, careful eyes.

One of Marya's friends corrected his singing, once. Cassander shook his head. "I'm Vestran, you know," he replied. "We don't sing it like that in Vestra, where we obviously sing it better. Take notes." Captain had to shoo them back to work with residue laughter on their lips.

More often than not, however, he spends time with his Wayfarer friend. They have their little spot safely out of the way yet still beneath the sun's merciless shine, though Marya's always wondered how they fit there when they're both so tall. Somehow, she doesn't think they mind the closeness.

The evening slowly descends on the Dareia. Day's work has long since given way to tiredness made worse by the scorching heat of the sun. Conversations are quiet and the sea joins in on them, waves splashing rhythmically against dark wood. She likes it. It's peaceful in a way so few things are.

Even the Wayfarers don't want to ruin it. Cuddled in their little corner, they seem to have exhausted most of their conversation topics for the day and are now content to just enjoy each other's presence. Cassander reaches out behind his friend's back, hand hovering over the dark, creased shirt.

"Can I?" he asks, far gentler than she's ever heard him speak before. It'd almost look like a different man, if it wasn't for the long, thick braid that trails down his back.

"Do you even have to ask, Songweaver?" His friend replies, equally softly. Songweaver. What a fitting nickname.

"I don't know, Aeran. Seems.. Appropriate to ask. Maybe you're not feeling touchy. Maybe you and your personal space are making out right now and don't need a third. I don't know."

Aeran chortles. "If I was making out with my personal space, I'd have left you here and gone to the cabin. And besides-" he leans in, whispering something in Cassander's ear. The redhaired elf pulls him close with a laugh and kisses his head.

"Beat me to it, Kellis, beat me to it," he says fondly. Marya smiles to herself. Young love's always brought a smile to her face.

When she sees Cassander emerge from the cabin next morning, she says with all the fervor of Erenvor's court gossip: "You and your boyfriend really defy the bad luck you Wayfarers bring to a ship, you know?"

Cassander stares. "My what?"

"Boyfriend. Are you married? Husband, then. Lover?"

"I... I have none of those things," he says slowly. "Aeran's my friend. My partner - not in that sense - and a very good friend." He huffs. "Got an issue with friends hugging each other?"

Marya bursts out laughing. He has no idea. "Nashira take me, of course not. But you weren't behaving like friends."

"Stars and hellfire, woman, what's wrong with you? We're friends. Friends!" He crosses his arms. "Back to work, you. Husband, she says. Do I look like the type to have a husband, of all things? Pfft."

9. how honest are they?

ugh it’s 50/50.

raven does a lot of lying by omission (like being the villain named sidestep 😭😭). sprinkle some half-truths there, tiny little white lies there. offer to help so the evidence doesn't point to you....yes i'll def help find out who broke into argent's mind 😁👍🏻 <- the one who broke into argent's mind.

tbh raven thinks she's smarter than everyone 🧐 which, she has yet to be caught so maybe she's justified there! she's playing some weird 5d chess game with light yagami levels of thinking, meanwhile no one even really suspects she's the villain and in fact are angry on her behalf that the villain is using her vigilante name😤😤

BUT to raven’s credit, she’s honest when it comes to being vulnerable with those she cares about. she'll temporarily forget her huge ego, show some weakness, and really try to connect. she admitted to ortega she needed therapy and even went for him. she didn’t even directly lie to her therapist! (even tho she thought it was a waste of time and thinks she’s unfixable LMAO). she even admitted she’s a re-gene to daniel, which made her want to throw up, and raven almost immediately regretted it. but luckily for her, daniel was a supportive sweetie about it.

14. are they more daring or more cautious?

daring😈😈raven has a fate motivation/ believes everything that’s happening to her and everything she does is inevitable, so she uses that to hand wave any danger(and justify some of her more distasteful decisions🥴). like surely she wouldn’t be allowed to die before doing whatever it is fate has in store for her? (even if she wouldn't mind too much :/ )

18. what is their greatest fear?

that her becoming a villain wasn't inevitable and she could’ve made very different decisions once escaping the Farm again :/ if raven can’t justify her actions with "oh it was always going to turn out like this", then she actually has to face up to what she’s done. and who she’s done it to. raven wouldn’t be able to do that….she’s still struggling to reconcile the Rangers helping and protecting her at the end of retribution with her long held belief they wouldn't care about a re-gene. which, is basically her greatest fear coming true....the Rangers always would've helped her.

20. how do they feel about death?

it’s complicated lol.

fears it, because she’s not free yet. craves it, because it might be the only way she’ll ever be free

25. do they prefer to be alone or with other people?

raven would adamantly insist that she prefers to be alone, but all her actions would say otherwise! always visiting the Rangers HQ, agreeing to train herald (it’s because she’s trying to train the heroes to be better!! promise!! it’s not bc she’s desperate for some kind of human connection!!!), she’s friendly to her henchwoman, rosie, both as her villain self and her puppet, etc. 

raven’s trying really hard to feel like she belongs somewhere, instead of feeling like an outsider :/ but she still feels like she’s missing some vital component that would let her have a deep connection, not just a shallow one.

but thing is, i paid for the premium for unlimited notebooks which already comes in with templates and other good features, and like it only costed me a cheap price since goodnotes and notability premium is way out of my budget (broke college student things !!)

omg hiiii i didn't expect any asks but cass angst is always something i can do, unfortunately (blame it on theo, i always do it to deflect from the crime of being a bad oc mom sometimes)

🌳Compare your OC to themself from 10 years ago. How has their mental state changed since then, how have they aged and grown up? Would they say they’re in a better place than they were back then or do they need help? What advice would they give their younger self? What advice would their younger self give to them now?

Oh boy, his mental state 10 years ago vs now... It's so much worse, as expected. Not only has more shit been piled onto 'shit that happened to him' mountain (meeting his parents after 10+ years of no contact, Spire's fall) but he also lost all support systems. He wasn't doing his absolute best ten years ago either - he still didn't want to confront his own trauma, under the excuse of 'there's time!!' (until there was not, of course) but those years were nevertheless the genuinely happiest ones of his life.

If he needed help then, he most definitely needs help now. Compared to a more jovial Cassander of his early Wayfarer days, current Cassander is jaded, acidic and bitter. He keeps everyone at arm's length and makes himself as much of an asshole as he can, but then is hurt by being lonely. Current Cassander, for all intents and purposes, is obviously struggling and refusing to acknowledge it in its entirety. I don't think baby Cass would have any advice to offer, not truly.

🥝What does a bad mental health day look like for your OC? Walk us through it with them. What kind of things can help them out of this slump and what kinds of things comfort them when they start to feel like this?

On a bad mental health day, he gets sensitive and tries to cover it up by being very bitey. It's not very pleasant. Things get under his skin easier, so he's quicker to react in negative ways. On a day he's particularly ruthless in his sarcasm, it's most likely this. In private, however, he'll just cry. He's a firm believer that crying is a good thing and isn't really shamed of it. That being said, he hasn't had a good, ugly cry in a long, long time.

Hugs help a lot. Cuddling as well; Aeran knows this and accommodates it when he can. Being taken care of is also a huge comfort as a reminder that someone's investing time in him. And of course, having his hair played with/brushed bc he doesn't let just anyone do it. Hair's important.

🍐What is your OC’s mentality? Are they overall positive? Negative? A bit of both? Describe their thought patterns and reasoning behind their choice making!

I'd say leaning negative, but that's hidden behind a veneer of playfulness and lightheartedness. He refuses to take things seriously, because if he does, it'll just prove his preconceived, very negative notions about the world even more right. So he's guided exactly by this, oftentimes without thinking - what's fun, what's interesting, what makes him challenge himself without being deeply uncomfortable.

There's also a rather strange thing about him in that he's incredibly fair. In negotiations, but also as a general thing; he's wary about showing kindness a lot of the time because he isn't sure he'll be repaid for it. If he's being an ass, he well and fully expects the other party to be an ass to him as well.

So these three things - playfulness, fairness and recklessness - all join to create a mentality that's very, very fun to write about ngl

⭐What is your OC afraid of? Any crippling phobias or some such? How do they act when scared and what helps them calm down? Does anyone ever find your OC scary? Why?

Listen, here's an angst dialed up to a 100 if this wasn't painful enough - he's not afraid of much. Dislikes some things more than others, sure, but more physical dangers? Just gotta outwit them and you're good to go! For the most part. I'm still waiting for a significant fail in persuasion from him. But what he's really afraid of is loneliness. Things he can't outwit, things that catch up with him, things he can't shake off. Those three years between the Spire's fall and Aeran, with an exception of the time he spent with Sanne, really showed him how terrifying loneliness can be so he'll do just about anything to avoid it. On a funnier note, though, he's also kinda scared of being robbed bc he was robbed once. While sleeping. He's extra careful now.

Is he scary tho? He can be. Towering guy with a sword can be scary and he's been known to use it. Let's not discount his murderous aura too. He is Sero's apprentice after all. I'd be scared of him personally.

unpopular opinion: i'm gonna be controversial and say that fanon makes her too focused on steve. she actually spent most of s4 with nancy, not steve. don't get me wrong, i loooove their friendship, but i'd also love to explore more of the parts of her life that aren't connected to steve tbh.
