“Oh yes,” the jetii says grimly. “I have to admire Mandalorians; you’ll kriff anything that doesn’t kill you properly the first time around. Highly resilient warrior philosophy, genetic code like a patchwork quilt; you have Neti genes, Jango Fett! They are sentient plants! They should not be capable of breeding with humans! They grow from seeds!” His voice rises. “I’m going to have to request Master T’raa Saa’s medical records! I am going to have Seire find whichever of your ancestors had the brilliant idea of breeding with a Force-Sensitive tree and then I am going to strangle them!” “They’re centuries dead already,” Jango feels obliged to point out, wondering if he hit his head recently and didn’t notice. He’s part tree?! “All things are possible in the Force,” the jetii snaps. “Most of them are highly inadvisable, as your genome indicates, but still possible. Seire’s good at finding people; if I tell them I need to shake a long-dead Mandalorian by the neck until I feel better about near-human Force-Sensitives potentially sprouting leaves, then they will find me the correct long-dead Mandalorian.” “Force sensitive?” Vau asks sharply. The jetii waves a hand sharply: “Neti.” “So in short: Fett’s ancestry is wild even by our standards, the kaminii are third-rate hacks with no understanding of how genes actually work and you want backup for when you decide to decapitate the lot of them,” Mij summarises. “Fair enough; I’m in.” “I am a surgeon,” the jetii says huffily, subsiding into something vaguely adjacent to calm, “I do not decapitate people; I have Seire for that.” “Of course,” Mij agrees cheerfully, grabbing his helmet, “but you came to get me, so stab wounds and blasterfire is what you’ll be getting. Coming, Jango?” Jango rolls his eyes but does grab his helmet. “Then again,” the jetii grumbles, “the Neti genes might explain why you agreed to be cloned twenty million times over. That right there? That is vegetative propagation, and it is definitely plant thinking.”

Anyway, I know it hasn't been touched upon or exlored (yet????) but I keep thinking about Bel and how the future arc of Black Sky might have affected him.
According to Yesterday's Tomorrow (ch. 1) one of Dorea's zombies got to Byakuran's Fake Storm Funeral Wreath, which I have to assume was Rasiel because no more Fake Funeral Wreaths were targeted after. Unless it was Rasiel's predecessor they got to...? Either way, Rasiel is clearly alive and very much determined to get revenge on Bel in the present, and I can't imagine Bel is at all happy about that, considering.
Also! What has Rasiel been up to all this time? Does Suriel know Rasiel is still alive? Bel's parents must, at least. So what's going to happen?

Putting a person on a throne unwilling is already bad.
Putting a person you mistreated, abandoned, abused and hate your (and the organization) fucking guts in said throne is very, very bad.
Children grow up and grow strong after all

In much happier news compared to dealing with baby-hallucination, I'm at chapter 317 of Black Sky and can now confirm that the sidestory Yesterday's Tomorrow is officially happening in my reading.
It's a good one, in my opinion, since it showcases that, despite being called "No-Good" by literally everyone in Katekyo Hitman Reborn (except, like, two people, Gokudera who is somewhat obsessed and Takeshi; I think Kyoko is kind about it too, while the Varia and Kyoko's friend Hana use different words, and I'm not sure about a few others), Tsunayoshi Sawada is actually capable of rational thought, skill progression that doesn't rely on "punch harder" or "burn stuff with soulfire", and recognizing when he's being railroaded.

Khr flame types for all the bat-clan. (Batman, Nightwing, Red Hood, Red Robin, Robin, Oracle, Black Bat, and Batgirl. Maybe Alfred and a few others.) It's a question/concept that's been floating in my mind for the last couple of days.
Okay, so having gotten into DC, Izzy will finally answer this ask that’s been lounging in inbox hell for um... years. *screms* My tagline says ‘may answer’ for a reason
Batman: Lightning primary, Cloud secondary.
Nightwing: Storm. Sun.
Red Hood: Sky. (yeah, oof.) Rain secondary. (Rains are scary.)
Red Robin: Lightning. Mist.
Robin: Rain. Cloud. (Ra’s is also a Rain, with a Storm secondary.)
Oracle: Sun. Mist.
Black Bat: Sun.
Batgirl/Spoiler: Lightning. Storm.
Signal: Mist.
Alfred: Storm.
Mind you, this is my take on it. Umei also had thoughts about this a while back (in October of ‘23), so...
Batman: Lightning
Nightwing: Sky
Red Hood: Cloud
Red Robin: Lightning
Robin: Storm
Oracle: N/A (we didn’t mention her.)
Black Bat: Sun
Spoiler/Batgirl: Lightning
Signal: Mist
Alfred: Storm
As nonnie can see, we do agree on some things.
Anyway, further explanations under the cut
Batman we agree is a Lightning. He’s both grounding and polarizing. In his actions and how he approaches things. He’s got the Cloud secondary because of his territorial style to Gotham and what he values/considers his.
Nightwing we disagree on. Nightwing usually plays peacemaker in the family. He’s friendly, charming and has a temper. However Izzy disagrees with the Sky because while Nightwing has friends, none of them really seem to hmm, be the same level of closeness and intimacy that strikes Izzy as a characteristic of a Sky-Flame bond. Depending on the continuity, the Titans broke up under him how many times? Yeah, he’s Driven and he Cares and tries to make things better for others, but he’s also a mess that really needs someone to barge in and take care of.
Red Hood we also disagreed on, but Izzy did argue Umei around. Like yeah, you could write him on a Cloud rage-bender but also, that could just be Trauma. But really what sold Jason as a Sky was everyone’s reactions to his death. He touched a lot of people, even if he only met them a few times. Like Roy. He made such an impression on Talia that she kept tabs on him before he was ever adopted by Bruce. He meets new people and lets them in and works with them, like Artemis and Bizzaro; they reach back, gel together in ways that shouldn’t work but do. Izzy’s still reading up on earlier comics but well, he’s got a lot of Xanxus vibes, so there’s that too. The Rain/Cloud secondary bits are more nuance but well, both Flames are pretty willing to cut a bitch first for something/someone they believe in. But Jason’s got a lot of sensitivity we don’t see in most KHR Clouds so Izzy went Rain.
Red Robin. Yeah, he’s a Lightning. Also Mist. They feed into each other. Tangle. He is such a mess. He just hides it better now that he’s older.
Robin. Umei says Storm because he’s insecure and willing to attack. Izzy says he’s a Rain, because again, Rains are willing to cut a bitch and still be sensitive. Izzy further modifies with Cloud who had their expected life upended and is trying to figure everything out.
Oracle strikes Izzy as a Sun and a Mist. She’s just on the intellectual side of Sun (see perfect recall) and Mist is basically a modifier on that. Oracle is very much willing to make things go her way.
Black Bat is a Sun because we see her body reading ability in KHR with Reborn. Reborn not only does this for combat but to get his jollies off, since he, like Cass probably can’t turn it off. Izzy’s not sure on a secondary for Cass, but might be Cloud.
Spoiler/Batgirl: We agree to the Lightning. Izzy originally went with a Sun secondary, but further thought is probably Storm secondary.
Signal: he’s a Mist. He’s perfectly reasonable. Until he ain’t. He also gets away with so much shit. Izzy’s pretty sure he’s a Sun or Storm secondary but while he seems to be Sunny, Izzy thinks he’s actually more Storm. After all, if you start a revolution, gotta be willing to play with fire.
Alfred: we should all be glad we only met him post-war, when he had settled into being a butler.

Since I haven't seen it mentioned, Umei no Mai's got a new KHR fic on AO3 called Obscured by Clouds and it's fucking fantastic ❤️ Trying not to spoil things too much so a starting point: Ottabio dies of gloating and, ohmygod, is that an Actual Adult (TM) in the Varia?! Never thought I'd see the day 😱 a couple notes: it's 70k-ish & a WIP. There's quite a number of OCs, especially in the Varia. If you haven't read Black Sky, some things (e.g. Umei's Varia lore, OC backstory) might get confusing.

Helloo!! I have a few questions for Chief actually hehe 🤩🤩🤩 1) How long has he been working for Varia? 2) I'm also curious for the general details of his fighting abilities? or is he more on the support side? Though being in Varia, I can imagine some skill in at least evasion and defense is needed dfhgsdfhs for personal safety XD 3) What's his general thoughts on Xanxus? Especially after the events of Varia arc?
Soon...I'll get to read the Guide as well! 👀✨
OC ASK!!!! Thank you so much!!! 💜💜💜
Since I lack the drawing skills I will just ramble on:
Chief has been dragged into Housekeeping by Squalo when he was 22. He started of as a normal grunt but Squalo promoted him after he confirmed Chief's leadership qualities (the promotion to Head of Housekeeping was always the plan, I will explain Squalo's and Chief's backstory in the updated character sheet I promise. I just really need to figure out how to layout all my character profiles first >.<). So Chief became Head of Housekeeping when he was 23 and in the Guide he's 24. He's been working for the Varia for 2 years and there's seems to be no sign of stopping. Little side note: he hasn't taken a real vacation in the entire time he worked in Housekeeping which brings Luss (his primary doctor) much despair.
Chief was trained in hand to hand combat by his father and actually fuck it I'm going to mention the backstory here. Okay so, Chief's family has been serving the Superbi's for generation (the Superbi is fully established Mafia Family in this AU because I wanted to give Squalo batshit crazy realtives). His father is the head butler and his mother is a chef in Superbi employ. Squalo's family is a very... colourful bunch so Chief's father made sure he knew how to defend himself. However, combat is not his specialty! His strength lies in organization, management and paperwork, also in dealing with idiots on a day to day basis. Another side note: I have devided Varia into two parts: Assassins (which are the people you see in the show/manga) and Housekeeping (which is my creation). Housekeeping doesn't take missions (some members can still kick ass though) but they still need to be Quality. The standards are different compared to their assassin counterpart though.
General thoughts on Xanxus... uhhhh, I'd say he's a very complex character with a lot of flaws but his heart is in the right place. His past and Nono's horrible parenting definitely left scars (physcial and mental) on him which makes his anger at world understanable in my opinion. I always consider him as smart because leading an organisation as crazy as the Varia is a difficult task. Also I headcanon him as an engineer (thx Umei-no-Mei for putting that in my head) which again takes some serious brains. I can't really give you a more in depth analysis because I really need to reread the manga for that, my canon memories are so spotty 😅
Thank you again for the ask! This was super fun to answer 💜✨
I hope you have fun reading the Guide whenever that may be (no rush) 😊💕

welp, umei no mai posted another fic that's not in one of my fandoms, time to read a Batman fic while having no idea what's going on (except for the found family justice league headcanons that have found its way onto my dash for some reason)

umei no mai singlehandedly ruined me for almost every warring state's period naruto story about building konoha by actually doing so realistically. I'm going to make that your problem as well because I just can't stop myself anymore I need to scream about this.
I literally can't fucking comment on any fic involving the idea without feeling the need to preface it with an "ignoring the inherent unrealistic way you're portraying the village being built," which leads to me just not commenting at all because unsolicited criticism is rude. but every single story that even touches on the topic I can't read without all the flaws glaring out at me like neon signs.
it's just. it's so fucking stupid. it's so fucking stupid. people don't immediately change everything about their ways of life that easily. you don't just go from a ceasefire right into living together! other clans don't immediately jump on board! what the fuck!
in hindsight it's so obvious why konoha failed. hashirama put people who were killing each other not even a year ago together and forced them to coexist, then strongarmed all the other clans by virtue of the uchiha-senju alliance being so powerful that not joining would be a death sentence politically, economically, or literally.
in contrast umei no mai actually approached the idea realistically, the uchiha and senju weren't forced to abandon lives to live together from the get-go. konoha began as a trading town and neutral ground for centralization of mission offices that people could voluntarily move to.
this began to attract other clans not out of fear but with economical and safety incentives. uchiha and senju guarding konoha made it an attractive place to put your noncombatants. it being a trading hub meant tradespeople both civilian and clan would gravitate towards it for the opportunity.
and as the wounds of grief were given time to heal, as senju and uchiha got used to spending time around each other as allies, they moved of their own accord when they were ready. konoha was built on a foundation of people who were ready to believe in what it stood for, not those being forced to relocate from their ancestral grounds to an entire new way to life.
because of this, because of umei's beautiful worldbuilding about how konoha could have come to be, I now can't enjoy any fic that jumps right from ceasefire into a ton of clans joining together in a centralized village under the control of the senju and uchiha. it's just too fucking stupid.
I haven't even mentioned yet how konoha's canonical creation fucked with the entire balance of power in the elemental nations and forced the other countries to create their own villages in order to keep up, leading to warfare being fought on a countrywide scale instead of between single or smaller alliances of clans. because that is absolutely a thing that happened.
umei fixed that too of course, by not only having konoha be a civilian town which staved off a lot of potential conflict but also showing how using policing action would decisively resolve wars in a timely and less bloody manner. if one side is loudly proclaiming that they have dozens or hundreds of hostages they'd be willing to ransom as soon as y'all stop throwing that temper tantrum, citizens would pressure their leadership to make peace in order to get their loved ones back.
yeah lmao good luck waging war when your people are rioting in the streets over you throwing more soldiers into the meat grinder instead of signing a treaty to get back the ones still alive.
I'm not even going to touch on the political and economical repercussions of the bijuu, that's for another post. this one is about how konoha was doomed from the very start even ignoring how unrealistic the timeline and methods of it's creation were in the first place.
hashirama senju is an idiot and umei no mai has shown me the light. thank you for coming to my ted talk
