The UNCOMMITTED campaign started in Michigan 3 weeks before the primary and it got about 101,000 votes. It has since spread to other states but with a much smaller time frame. These are the results
North Carolina
Colorado
Iowa
Massachusetts
Minnesota
Nevada
North Carolina
Tennessee
Most of the states have at least 10,000 votes which was the initial goal of the Uncommitted campaign in Michigan.
anyone spending more than five minutes talking about the us presidential election without advocating for everyone to show up to the dem primaries to write in "uncommitted" or vote that way if you have that option is an idiot lol
bro that 100k vote in michigan made a difference. we all need to show up to the primaries and vote uncommitted. even if we aren't - and most are not. there has been a real shift in both rhetorical and (marginally so) policy so... like come on let's get to it all you vote blue no matter who folks, of which actually I have always been one (because I've always voted for the dems even though they are the fucking devil because i think they are an easier opponent to beat than republicans). but I don't speak down to people who don't want to support someone actively funding and contributing to genocide.
do not give up your leverage. also everyone better be doing all they can in addition to voting for a genocidal maniac because no actually I do not believe that many of you are actively engaged in this work.
I'm real interested in how we're supposed to "push biden to the left" after four years if democrats refuse to actually, you know, push biden to the left by voting uncommited in the primaries if it's on your ballot. In4b someone screams "but trump!!", trump isn't on the Democrat primary ballot you absolute cockheads
Anyway to everyone who vote(d) uncommited, I love you. Everyone else do the bare minimum of a Wikipedia search on what a primary is before I even remotely consider your opinion relevant
US folks living in New York, Wisconsin, Connecticut, or Rhode Island:
today (April 2, 2024) is the Democratic primary election! please please go vote against genocide!
the Vote Uncommitted campaign is sending Biden a message that voters demand a permanent ceasefire now! How it works is people vote uncommitted or undecided or other in large numbers, which will show the democrats that they WILL NOT win the general election in the Fall and Trump will become president unless Biden and the rest of the Dems immediately change their policy on Israel and Gaza. Michigan already turned out over 100,000 people voting uncommitted, which is MORE than the margin Biden won MI by last election and more than the margin Trump won MI by in 2016. Voting Uncommitted matters! So if you’re a US citizen who’s able to vote, make sure you do!!
each state has a different ballot option so please refer to this graphic to see how you should vote in your state!
im sure its been said already but as the election draws near more and more liberals will come out of the woodwork to shame people with a conscience to give away their vote to the democrats for free. i'm already seeing posts saying "why aren't people more concerned about a trump presidency?" you want to know why? it's because people already know he's bad. everyone already knows what he is and what he's done and what he'll do. there's nothing to discuss. he's a racist despotic worm of a man. there's nothing else to say.
biden is currently president. the genocide is happening under his watch. he's the one funding isra*l and arming them; he's sidestepped congress more than once to give them weapons. by oct. 27, the biden administration already knew that "Israel was regularly bombing buildings without solid intelligence that they were legitimate military targets." the state department/biden have engaged in atrocity propaganda, cast doubt on the legitimacy of the death toll recorded by the gaza health ministry, and so on. the united states is currently in the process of trying to pin the "war in gaza" on netanyahu (see sen. schumer's speech) after months of backing blatant genocide as a means to act as if they're "doing something" about the genocide (Instead of, say, threatening to cut off all aid to israel with the condition that all hostilities in gaza, the west bank, and occupied jerusalem are halted immediately and permanently, allowing palestinians freedom to travel, allowing aid into gaza, etc etc etc.)
the long and short of it is that liberals view their own lives as being worth more than palestinians'. that's it. they'll vote for another 4 years of the guy ushering in genocide and supporting apartheid + settler colonialism because he isn't outright attacking them (despite various laws and rulings happening both at the supreme court level and at the local level all over the country that will endanger people). they'll settle for the illusion of safety and security and shame anyone with a conscience and accuse them of "supporting the republicans" when in an actual democracy you would be able to use your vote as leverage to extract concessions from those who want to be elected. that's how it's supposed to fucking work.
democrats are not owed people's vote. if biden loses, it will be biden's fault; it will be his campaign's fault; it will be the democrats' fault. trump is bad; the republicans are bad. we already know this. this is not an endorsement of either. but if democrats are too cowardly and feckless and servile to the motivations of the american empire and never do anything for their constituents then why the fuck should anyone vote for them. you want to get mad at someone, why don't you do something useful and stop worrying about team-sports with a purely selfish basis and start hounding the people in power who are supposed to serve you, the voter.
of course they're already blaming arabs and muslims for "the death of democracy" and the elections aren't even here. can you people even try to be less predictable?
I was planning on voting uncommitted in the democratic primaries to hopefully push Biden towards a ceasefire, but I was concerned that there might not be an active movement in my state. I can never seem to find protests closer than New York on the websites that get passed around here, so I thought maybe there wasn’t a significant anti-zionist movement, here.
But, good news! I just got a political text message asking me to vote uncommitted, so it looks like there are actually people here planning the same thing.
If your state hasn’t had primaries yet, please look up when/where they’re being held and consider voting uncommitted.
The Biden administration needs to know that people are willing to turn out and vote, and that we’re willing to do so in support of Palestine.
Today I wanted to share this CNN clip for Americans. You probably heard about the Democrat primaries in Michigan - 100k voters turned out and cast their ballots “Uncommitted” rather than choose the binary of Red v. Blue. If you’ve been paying attention, you know that Americans have been hounding all of the DNC powers ceaselessly. If you’ve been attention, you also know that Biden has had so many opportunities to end the Genocide in Palestine. You also know that Biden dangles the carrot (while eating ice cream) and then removes it (after that MI primary).
It’s important to reframe the binary vote; Biden isn’t going to “defeat” Trump, and Trump isn’t going to “win” - Biden is holding our hopes for a better future hostage. DNC should be courting our vote, not withholding peace for it.
Wisconsin voters are apparently turning out in similar numbers to utilize their voter power, “Uncommitted”. They need to see that we’re paying attention to the difference between their (empty) words and their (in)actions.
I hope this video and my words help give you the confidence to challenge people in your life who are bogged down in helplessness. I hope that you follow Mehdi on social media - if you aren’t already.
Don’t forget to click your Arab.org links, and talk to someone today about Palestine.
“Hope is not so much a comfort, as a necessary requirement.”
As the death toll from Israel's war on the Gaza Strip hit at least 32,623 on Friday, the New York Working Families Party endorsed the "Leave It Blank" campaign, which encourages Democratic voters to cast a blank ballot in the state presidential primary next Tuesday to increase pressure on U.S. President Joe Biden to end the bloodshed.
Since January, when New Hampshire residents critical of U.S. complicity in Israel's genocidal assault wrote "cease-fire" on their Democratic ballots, voters across the country have used the primary process to stage similar protests. In Michigan, home to many Muslims and Arab Americans, over 100,000 people voted "uncommitted" last month
"Many New Yorkers are struggling with the question of whether to show up for Tuesday's presidential primary. We're urging voters to use their voice at the ballot box to send a clear message to President Biden that he must correct course on the war on Gaza," said New York Working Families Party co-directors Ana María Archila and Jasmine Gripper in a statement.
"With the general election seven months away, voters can make a strategic appeal to President Biden to listen to the overwhelming majority of voters who support a permanent cease-fire, the safe return of hostages, and emergency humanitarian aid," they added
Biden is expected to face Republican former President Donald Trump in November. Although the Democratic president called for Israel to end the "indiscriminate bombing" of civilians in Gaza, his administration has also continued to arm Israeli forces—sending fighter jets and 2,000-pound bombs that can take out an entire city block.
"The war in Gaza has really splintered the Democratic coalition that is urgently needed to defeat Trump and his right-wing extremist agenda," Archila toldGothamist. "And it has created a very serious moral dilemma for voters across the country."
According to Gothamist:
Archila said she viewed the blank vote campaign as something that would engage and unify Democrats at a moment when they lack enthusiasm.
"Instead of disconnecting from democracy, what we need to be doing is leaning into our democracy," she said. "And we know that voters who show up in the primary are more likely to show up in a general election."
Archila and Gripper's party joins a growing number of groups supporting the campaign. They include IfNotNow NYC, Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) Action, MPOWER Action: Muslim Grassroots Movement, Peace Action New York State, Sunrise Movement NYC, U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights Action, and multiple chapters of Democratic Socialists of America
