today one of my students told his mom he was scared to come to school because he claims i told my class that ICE was going to do a raid and that i was going to give them the names of all my undocumented students so their parents won’t see them again.

so of course this mother calls the school panicked like yo get your teachers. turns out this kid has a science test monday and he doesn’t want to take it so he lied to his mom.

opened my work email and had a communication from the president of my current university cancelling the students' spring concert performer because of "hate speech" aka being pro-palestine...opened my other email and had a message from the provost of my alma mater about their latest attempt to avoid meeting the non-tenure track faculty union's demands...hell world

I never comment on posts but it’s important to me to clarify that “illegal immigrants are getting benefits and social security” is actually the OPPOSITE of the truth.

like foolsmask said, most undocumented immigrants pay payroll taxes that go towards medicare, medicaid, and social security but cannot receive those benefits, despite paying into them. meaning that in addition to undocumented immigrants not being a drain on our system, we actually wouldn’t have a prayer of funding any of these programs without them

Okay so we have this huge problem with forgetting about everything that’s happened by the time the next election rolls around so I’d like to keep a running list of things as they’re happening to help remind us when the 2026 midterms roll around. And please add to this if I’ve missed anything.

January 2025:

Donald Trump pardoned 1500 people who participated in the insurrection of January 6th, including those who violently assaulted and nearly killed police officers.

Donald Trump has declared that trans and non-binary people don’t exist.

Donald Trump is working towards firing everyone in the government who isn’t loyal to him.

Donald Trump has effectively fired everyone who he claims is an “illegal DEI hire” …whatever that means

Donald Trump pulled out of the Paris Climate Agreement and the World Health Organization

Congress are trying to pass the Laken Riley Act to, effectively, round up every immigrant in the country, including LEGAL immigrants

Donald Trump removed caps on prescription drug prices.

Donald Trump wants to withhold federal aid to help combat the LA wildfires and help the thousands of people who have been displaced and lost their homes.

The Department of Justice has put a hold on all civil rights cases.

Donald Trump has cut off aid to Ukraine.

Laken Riley Act has been passed by Congress and is awaiting being signed into law by the President. Here’s the breakdown of the votes: House Senate

Donald Trump purged a dozen inspectors general from the federal government and intends to replace them all with people loyal to him.

Representative Andy Ogles (R-TN) has proposed a change to the 22nd Amendment to allow Donald Trump, specifically, to serve a third term.

Schools Look to Landmark Supreme Court Ruling to Protect Undocumented Immigrant Students From Ice

So this week, word got around the DC tour guide community, the White House Secret Service detained two children on their 8th grade trip, because they were undocumented.

When you want to visit inside the White House, you have to go through your Congressrep (or through your embassy if you are a foreign visitor), give them your social security number about 6 weeks in advance, and they'll set up a time for you. When you arrive, a National Parks Service Ranger will check your ID to make sure it matches the list your Congressrep sent. Typically, with middle schoolers, they'll accept a school ID because they don't have a drivers license yet. I'm not sure what information the parents put down, or what the NPS ranger did exactly when they noticed the information was incorrect, but then, Secret Service came to ask a few questions and detained the kids.

No teacher or chaperone was asked to accompany the children. The lead field trip teacher had to demand that they allow a teacher go with them. And several hours later, a Secret Service agent brought them back out, and told their tour guide, "Go. Now. Get them away from here. Do not let them near ICE or any other law enforcement. Do not let them out of your sight until they get home."

And then, all the tour guides at most of the tour companies received an internal email regarding what we are and aren't allowed to do, as tour guides, if our student groups are approached specifically by ICE.

This is where we're at, less than 3 months into this administration. Stealing children from their school trips while away from their parents.
