you know im unable to shut up when i have any opinion on zelda (though i try and have thus far succeeded at not commenting on any other concept from the darn book)- i find most totk ganondorf concept art worse than what we got to insulting even (of those i have seen) ..... this one though

How do you go about creating your xeno designs? (Especially octos they're so cute)

How do you decide things like markings/marking placements and such

Also, how would you go about creating a new xeno style species design? (Like cuttlelings or a fanmade species like harelings?)

I can't really answer this without making an unorganized mess of a post but just to try my best: I have my own little guideline I follow when drawing xenos. I still follow canon when it comes to tentacles, masks, and ears. Then I put my own little spin on it.

Inklings have thicker limbs and more flesh tones/less chromatophores the rest of their body, they're rounder and a bit stockier (though even this isn't set in stone because there are diff body types.) i usually color them all the same.

Octolings are stretchier with crowns and non retractable claws. They often have more complicated marking and patterns, a well as more fullbody control over their color. i just do whatever when designing their patterns. Some of my octolings have rings or stripes, and i tend to draw marina with starry patterns.

But really I just go with what I think looks good on that character. or i completely forget traits like having the eye whites show mostly.

I have an idea of what I want for cuttlelings already though. Lots of fins and frills, smaller size, and crazy patterns/colors depending on personality.

I'm not a fan of harelings, salmonlings or sharklings or anything like that. We know what evolved sea slugs look like, based on flow, and I don't think any creature with bones makes sense to be a "-ling". especially. mammals. I'm all for anthro sharks though, similar to what we see in non inkfish band members. But yeah, not interested in the slightest of messing with any non cephalopod shape shifting species. If I were to design any they'd just be. How they appear in game but in my style

the thing about barton and his own 'foil' as she should technically be considered, as she is technically the complete opposite of him in every way that matters, is that sumire [ whom i have talked about a few times on here, albeit briefly, so i will give you a brief refresher on her and that is that... her character eventually commits these killings based on the twelve main tarot cards in a deck based on them not fitting her idea of what 'perfect' looks like (kind of like barton BUT much different at the same time) ] and barton used to know each other as they were best friends as kids — even if it was only for a few years.

and as strange as this may sound, a broken promise between them was partially the catalyst behind what started her descent into feeling this need to 'judge' people, which is quite the coincidence as it may seem. because where do most of her victims end up dying? in these settings where she has set up these 'mock trials' for people. so, i know that i said i would talk about how barton had inadvertently created a monster a longgg time ago, but i now am sharing it with you all. because although one cannot blame barton fully for her actions as sumire, of course, has to take responsibility for them herself; but this did play a part in being a catalyst for her feeling all of this resentment and hatred for the world / people around her that led up to her first murder.

which, as you might have it, was the chariot: a tarot card that symbolizes revenge, willpower, and essentially tries to subconsciously put off this message that you are moving in the 'right direction.' i don't think it's so much just the promise itself though that makes this important — it's also that barton himself essentially forgot about the promise he made to sumire, as terrible as that may sound. it actually kind of gives you more insight as to what was going on in barton's mind as a kid because he basically made sumire promise him this: that, if he ever got on the 'wrong path,' that sumire would be there to show him a better one. and that she would attempt to reconnect with him if they ever got separated somehow / give him a sign of some kind that she was still there, so he could meet her.

and i say that this provides more insight because i haven't really gone into depth about this, but barton has expressed this idea in one roleplay on here. + that is that he didn't want to end up like this. however, regardless of that statement, there is no washing away of all of the heinous things he's done and he chose to do them anyway. i'm just thinking about how messed up it is that sumire, up until the point where she started her murders, had casually been searching for barton because the way in which his victims were found was vaguely remiscent of the way that wesley used to kill his victims. + this meant that he was definitely on the wrong path and she would eventually end up on the wrong one too.

Obsessed with the dynamic (not romantic, not platonic, but a secret third thing--both and yet neither) between two characters who knew and cared about each deeply years ago when they were both younger and life was much less complicated.

But then, tragic, transformative circumstances separated them. Assuming that this separation was certainly permanent, because how could it not be?

And yet, somehow finding each other again years later, and sometimes they aren't sure whether the reunion that they once longed for with every fiber of their beings is a blessing, a curse, a joke, or a punishment.

Because they've both changed in the intervening years--largely because of the hellish circumstances that caused their separation. They've both changed completely and irrevocably, even if one of them has changed much more noticeably and dramatically than the other to the point of seeming a complete stranger. It is about leaning to see and appreciate all the things that have changed about the other and all the things that have not changed. It's about learning to reconcile beloved, often rose-tinted memories with the complex, yet-equally-compelling reality of the person those memories are about.

Guess just a small update on my progress with saiouma weekend stuff, I’ve got 8K drafted for the first planned fic and I’d say I’m a little more than halfway through lol? Don’t hold me to that but this one will definitely be as long as my usual stuff 👍

I’m estimating the draft will be done by the weekend. My thought is the editing will be pretty intense, so I’m unsure how long that’ll take me. But at least one will for sure be fully written. The other one will depend on how much time I have left afterward lmaoo 🤣
