A morning on the way to Baldur's Gate. The party booked themselves into an inn and enjoyed real beds, hot baths, and privacy for the first time since the Nautiloid.

Gale and Mayhew shared a room, of course. They were filled with the relief of surviving the shadows and the glow of finally getting together, so their private room was probably a blessing for the whole party, honestly.

Would kill to read animal POV fiction that has the animal POV’s interaction with humans be like, semi realistic to the level of caution most predators take with large prey and/or competitors (including humans).

Like instead of the usual - “the human is such a weak, pathetic creature... so slow, no claws, blunt teeth… completely helpless without its 'Fire Sticks'. how is it the master of the earth?” type crap it’s like, the bear protagonist or whatever approaches some dude who spreads their arms and yells and the bear is like “FUUUUUUUUCK THAT THING JUST GOT HUGE. IT'S LARGE AND MAKING NOISES. HOLY FUCK.”

Listen, I know Jun Wu has done horrible, unforgivable things as a result of his bitterness and his anger and his grief and his resentment, and nothing can make up for the suffering and the anguish that he caused so many people, especially our sweet Xie Lian. I know that.

But... I still can't help but wish that someone, anyone, just one single person, had listened to his story and told him,

Hey. I'm really sorry that happened to you. That was a horrible thing to have to go through; no one could have deserved that. You tried your very hardest. You tried everything that you could think of to do. I'm sorry that not a single person appreciated your efforts. I'm sorry that they only used you. I'm sorry that they scorned and ridiculed and renounced you. I'm sorry that everyone left you all alone in the end. The fact that you tried should have counted for something. The fact that you even thought to try should have meant something.

I just think, maybe if someone had told him those words at any point in time, then things might have been different. Maybe he could have changed. Maybe his heart wouldn't have frozen over. Maybe he could have turned himself around.

For as much as he wanted to corrupt Xie Lian and make him his 'successor', I think maybe deep down, a part of him actually just wanted to be vindicated. To have his suffering be understood. And while Xie Lian did not owe him a single ounce of sympathy, if he had shown him even a little bit and said the above, I'm willing to bet the great White Clothed Calamity would have broken down crying.

Xie Lian himself was saved by a single act of compassion, after all.

There's just not enough empathy in stories.

Patalliro! is fascinating to me because of stuff like this. It's unapologetically gay - even within its anime which aired during primetime hours in 1982 - in a way that many later BL manga would never be, like the ones from the early 2000s which would never dare to call their characters actual homosexuals. Patalliro has actually aged quite well in this regard, there's something comforting about how campy it is.

katsuki thinks he's probably in love with his administrative assistant. he can't say for sure, but he spends an awful lot of his time in the office distractedly sneaking glances, and every time he hears that bright, "good morning, dynamight, sir!" he kind of feels like he's going to hurl. it's the nauseating combination of elation at the excitement in your voice — you must be happy to see him — and the disappointment at the sound of his hero name. so professional, distant.

he's complaining about it to the idiots he calls friends over a round of drinks — a decision he already regrets. especially when shitty hair opens his dumb mouth to ask if he’s tried talking to you. and not just about work stuff.

he thinks about it all weekend — do you think he's rude if he's only bossin you around? do you see it as bossing? would you like it if he just... talked? what would he even say??

and after an immediate and decisive failure on monday morning (in which you chirp, "good morning, dynamight, sir!" and he just nods like always) katsuki throws himself into his desk chair, opens an incognito tab, and types: how to start conversations into the search bar.

(you might even steal a glance at him, as you often do, and wonder privately at what he's working on — his face is awfully red)

so when you pop your head in to ask if he's decided about that charity gala next month, he goes for it. and... well, he's never been good at this kind of thing and until now, he's never cared. you tilt your head, clearly waiting for his response but all that's going through his head is how lovely you are.

it reminds him of tip #2: start with a compliment. but obviously he can't just come out and say that. it'd probably make you freak out and report him to HR. so he'd have to go with something... milder. or maybe he should forgo the compliment and try #6: ask for advice.

as he's weighing his options, he remembers that the first tip was to project positivity and figures maybe he should smile?? one time kaminari told him he had a nice smile, and to this day, katsuki isn't sure if the dunce was pullin his leg or not.

it feels... odd — his cheeks are stiff, his teeth feel too exposed. he's too distracted by that to really think about what he's saying. "'m gonna make a donation, but do you think it's worth goin? you're very ..... sensible." there. #6 and #2 done.

now if only you weren't looking at him like he'd just jumped up on his desk and started doing an irish jig. he can't quite hear your response over the blood rushing in his ears so he just nods and thanks you, and pretends to check his email. when his office door closes, he lets his head fall onto his desk with a dull thud. what the hell was that??? SENSIBLE!?!?!?! 

he spends most of the rest of the day avoiding looking in your direction and contemplating doing a tenure in the states after all. 

he does not expect you to come back into his office and present him with not one but two tickets to the charity gala. he stares down at them, trying to make sense of it, and then it clicks — what you’d been saying when he asked your opinion on the event. … and these kinds of things are more fun if you bring someone.

shit. not only had he agreed to going to the damn thing but now he has to find someone to…. he looks at you. that soft smile on your face — a real smile, not a pained grimace — and his stomach flips. but surely you wouldn’t want to come to some stuffy party with him.

i’ve always found it peculiar how during meeting the chargers cutscene the game just assumes your character automatically understands what krem is talking about when he mentions binding (though, granted, it’s all very unsubtle). like, this is a roleplaying game. what if i want to play a character who just doesn’t get it

love the absurdity of what is and isnt secretive to the captain. we knew he killed a seagull in weymouth the first time he fired a bren gun before we knew his first name. what a strange little guy.

thinking about when guts sent a bunch of his men directly into zodd's meat grinder without even knowing demons like him existed. and that moment after the fight where casca runs to griffith unconscious on the floor and tells guts it's all his fault. and the time gambino tells him he's bad luck and should have died instead. and about how he tells griffith he cares about his men, and how casca doesn't seem to see it. and the time guts is thinking about casca telling him it's all his fault (after he got griffith hurt) and then griffith comes to him and says (like it's nothing) do i need to give a reason every time i come to save you? or whatever. like he's worth it. like he's worth dying for, and like it can be a choice people make because they value you. like he's a good luck charm, like griffith needs him to reach his goals, his full potential. like griffith is not enough to make it without him. like griffith finds out when guts leaves. fuckin.g gnawing someone else's legs off because i still need mine to run into traffic
