so I guess this isn't really relevant or interesting but I was thinking about the seals Inoichi got from Minato for his secret room and I was wondering how they survived the kyuubi attack? are the seals integrated in the walls themselves or on paper so Inoichi could/can put them up himself? and if they were integrated in the walls was the T&I building in a part of the village that was lucky and stayed untouched (or not attacked enough to be destroyed)?
Also did other friends of Minato and Kushina get seals, scrolls or something from them too like Inoichi?
(btw this is literally a showerthought I had the other day lmao😭😅 it's probably not that exciting to answer, I was just thinking of the people Minato and Kushina were friends with bc in canon Kushinas friendship with Mikoto was only mentioned in that oneflashback and it never mattered... like no one had anything to hold on too from them and so on [it's probably bc of how the story is told but it just bothers me that they were supposed to be so important/great when they lived but then were never mentioned at all]) Also did Hiromi know Kushina?
Hope you have a lovely day💜
Hey Sisdiss!
Don't worry, I'm happy to talk about anything in my fics etc ☺️ however I'll split the answer up because I don't want to just word vomit and not make any sense haha
1) Inoichi's Office: so the vault is actually a vault. Like a real vault, seperate from the bricks and plaster etc. Think:
Tumblr media
But obviously the size of an actual room. It's engraved, which is where Kushina was invaluable... I like to think of Minato as being the erratic paper nin because Jiraiya was such a hair-brained tutor whilst Kushina was taught in a more well rounded way, including fuinjutsu with different mediums, and she helped him engrave his special Kunai so that's how they started dating, IMO... Also I like the idea of Kushina in a forge with her chakra chains whilst Minato is like an obsessive bookworm haha
In my version of Konoha's village planning, T&I is in the same 'Quarter' as the hospital, which was untouched by the Kyuubi attack, so the building has remained intact the whole time. However, if T&I was destroyed, the vault would survive and be reinstalled in the new office. If Nagato levelled Konoha, Inoichi's vault would survive because Kushina is THAT good. Shisui's not wrong in thinking the vault is the safest place in Konoha, it's basically a nuclear bunker.
2) Kushina and Minato's friends: frankly - and I agree that it's mainly the fault of the way the series was written - these two ended up feeling like the kind of people that everyone has lovely things to say about... After they're gone. When they were alive, you could count their real friends on one hand. And there's a very good reason for this, tbh;
Kushina: she was, like, 10 when she came to Konoha and we know she struggled to adjust. She probably left a lot of her childhood friends behind, she was introduced to Mikoto through their parents, and she clashed with missing her own culture AND not adjusting instantly to Konoha's culture. Konoha is.... clique-y and Kushina was very boisterous about being proudly Uzushi AND Uzumaki. It's like going to killer-in-training school with a foreign princess who has made it clear she hates it here- oh wait, that's not a metaphor.
Adding in my HC that the Uzumaki are Matriarchal and the canonical fact that Konoha treats it's Kunoichi like SHIT, you're looking at Kushina not being very... Social butterfly. She's got Mikoto and that's it, at school. Outside of school, she definitely spends all of her time with Mito and family, and she spends a lot of time with the Fuinjutsu Guild... But there's distance there. Kushina has left home, where she's the Kage-equivalent's daughter (Mito's her great-aunt) BUT was surrounded by family + home... to a place where the social distance between average Konohan people and an 'Uzumaki Princess' isn't being respected but IS being respected by Uzushio-migrants etc. So Kushina is pissed because she's clashing with the Konohans BUT kept distanced from her own people except for, like, Mito, Tsunade, and Mikoto. Add in the turmoil of being a Jinchuuriki down the line and Kushina is known by everyone but close to very few.
Minato: he starts off as literally nobody. He's like a faceless kid in the BG of main character shots, the ones the artists do really quickly so he looks kinda trod on. He's an orphan and he has a last name... To a civilian clan that's completely cut off from him. He grows up in the orphanage and goes to the academy with nothing of his own. Minato is hollow-cheeked and dirty-fingernailed and Naruto is so, so, much like his father in more than just colouring, it's tragic. But Minato is a bookworm, he only has his brain to rely on, and he's got average chakra, no heritage to speak of.
So he studies, he claws himself upwards with a warm smile and a silenced voice. He's nobody, no friends in school, until they're old enough to be doing exams and suddenly he's the top of every class. No one knows who he is, craning their necks for the so-called Rookie of the Year- and Jiraiya is given a team, team seven with the usual Rookie who is a no named orphan. Jiraiya isn't built to be a teacher but Minato doesn't have a clan or family to complain about teaching methods and fairness. By the time he's built a life for himself, how is he going to make friends? He's friends with his colleagues. Inoichi, Shikaku, Chouza, he's tentative allies with Fugaku, he's done time in ANBU (he's fast, Jiraiya taught him fuinjutsu because that's what Jiraiya is willing to talk about, and he's useful but not irreplaceable... Of course Minato was ANBU) and he knows Sakumo, promises to tutor the war hero's son, gets an apprentice, starts making more and more waves...! Becomes Hokage, takes his guards under his wing because, well, he sees them more than most people and that's how you make friends, right?
It's lonely at the top but it's fucking lonely the whole way up there as well when you come from nothing and few see you until it's too late.
So... No, I don't think Kushina and Minato had a lot of friends 👀
3) Sealings presents: considering that ^^ unintentional rant (😅), the few people close to them both would have presents, I'm sure. Raidou inherited all of Minato's notes, Mikoto probably has almost all of Kushina's personal effects but 90% is sealed up for Naruto (fuck you, Sarutobi). I imagine that Mikoto's blades all have engravings for sharpness and strength and chakra conduction in them... Let's say that Shikaku's shogi board was also a gift from Minato, just a nice normal board 🤷 I haven't thought too much about it, tbf
4) did Hiromi know Kushina? Absolutely, Hiromi was the ANBU tattooist for decades before her husband popped off the mortal coil and she renovated his leather shop. She would've been prominent in the Guild, which is unfortunately on it's very last legs these days. It's literally dying of old age, the art is losing a lot of traction in Konoha (everyone wants a big exploding Jutsu, or they give up after learning a barrier seal... No one wants to devote three decades to an apprenticeship with half that time spent mixing ink or smelting fine silver trinkets or embroidery because that's not battlefield glory 🙄) Hiromi was one of Mito's 'inner circle', the first Uzushi who immigrated alongside her when she married Hashirama, so she would've known Kushina quite closely from her arrival.
Phew! Sorry for the rambling, hope this makes sense~
Have a great day too 💖

Hey, I loved your Naruto headcanon posts, which makes me crave for more. Any thoughts on Uzushio in future?
Hi darling, I'm so glad you enjoy my headcanons! It's kind words like these that motivate me to do more! So, Uzushiogakure. A tricky one, since there's basically nothing we know in canon, but I've tried to make it work. Also I'm in bed with the flu and a fever rn so please excuse any spelling or grammar mistakes.
Uzushiogakure Worldbuilding Headcanon
Tumblr media
People and Culture
Since most if not all Uzushio citizens are Uzumakis, its residents are typically known for their temperament and fiery personalities. Their enthusiasm is almost infectious and they're very loyal and will stick by your side no matter what. Although its last leader was a man, its typically run by women. Women are treated with the same respect as men are, and tought the same sealing techniques. Twin birth rates are high and there have been cases of even triplets or quadruplets. The Uzumaki are sharers, they love to share their food, their ninja equipment, and also their knowledge. Seriously, they're great teachers. Their standards for teaching are high, but they 100% stand behind their students. The longevity of the Uzumaki comes with a downside, though. Due to the faster mitosis of their cells, the overall cancer rate is the highest in the shinobi world. Most of the Uzushio citizens weren't actually full fledged shinobi, and they were a peaceful nation. The Uzumaki also used their sealing techniques on food to enhance its shelf life.
Clothing and Cosmetics
The traditional attire of an Uzumaki consists of various kinds of hanfu and other gowns. However, compared to their real world counterpart, the Uzushio garments aren't gendered. When it comes to hair- and skincare, Uzushio citizens gladly use cosmetic products imported from the water realm, but when it comes to acne prevention, they use a special blend of clay to apply topically, although peroral application is also possible. According to Uzumaki aunties, it is a miracle cure for almost anything.
Tumblr media
Nature
Flora The climate of Uzushiogakure is mild, characerized by hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters and colorful falls. Most of the interior countryside is covered in bamboo forests. Bamboo was a sacred plant to the Uzumaki, as they saw it as a symbol of growth and regeneration. Another plant often seen in Uzushiogakure is the ginko tree. During the fall, its leaves are often ejoyed as a tea by the citizens. The coastlines are characterized by rocky beaches. Swimming in the sea however, is not a good idea, as there are whirlpools lurking close to the shore. Since the country is sprinkled by rivers, many citizens commute by boat.
Fauna
In the whirlpool realm, there are a lot of different animals. An animal unique to Uzushiogakure is the big and the red panda. Big pandas are seen as a symbol of good luck by the Uzumaki, while red pandas are seen a symbol of laughter and mischief. In the forests of the whirpool realm you can find foxes, wolves and wild tigers. Another mischievious friend of the Uzumaki is the red squirrel, and they're so beloved by them, it's not a rarity to see squirrels chilling on rooftops or even take the boat together with the Uzumaki.
Tumblr media
Food
The national dish of Uzushiogakure is mapo tofu. Enjoyed with rice imported from Kirigakure, it is enjoyed by adults, elders and children. Generally, the Uzumaki have the second highest spice tolerance, coming after Sunagakure. Uzushiogakure is also a paradise when it comes to all things sauces and condiments. The most popular ones are keptjap manis, peri peri, hoisin and miso glaze. Street- and fast food was a big part of Uzumaki culture, as there many food stalls sprinkled throughout the village. Before it was destroyed, Kirigakure Kimchi was a very sought after imported food product.

by the time naruto was born the uzumakis had been wiped out, their homeland and culture destroyed, and the few refugees from the destruction of uzushio were plucked up and used in violent ways to survive... it's similar to the uchiha except their last survivor, naruto, had no way to really conceptualize what he lost because no one even tried

I feel like I'm gonna make a lot of people mad when I say this, but I feel Naruto is very much an outlier in terms of what the Uzumaki clan was like, at least power wise. From what we know of the clan, we know they specialize in sealing techniques, charka manipulation with their charka chains, according to the fandom kenjutsu (sword techniques), and if I remember the map correctly, their island was located right between fire and water country so they specialized in both fire and water (their island was literally called whirlpool island) techniques (maybe even boil release). Naruto doesn't really do any of that. But I think it does make sense given the fact that Naruto clearly takes more after his dad in terms of powers (and features), plus there is also the fact that by the time Naruto was born the clan damn near extinct so there much of their skills or culture he could learn. I also think this is something even Kishimoto acknowledges, given the fact that every other confirmed or even speculated Uzumaki is very different from Naruto visually and power wise.
I agree and I hate it 😭 I would have loved it SO MUCH to have Naruto somehow reconnect with his Uzumaki origins, learn some of their techniques develop more of their powers maybe have something to do with restoring their land and clan...
Let me just... imagine... If Nagato being Uzumaki had played a deeper role in the Pein arc that sparks this new path for Naruto... the war arc can still happens or whatever, but when Naruto meets Kushina, she talks about the clan too, giving him a few more hints to follow, (I would even switch to her helping in the war instead of Minato, but pick which you like better)
After the war, maybe one of the things Naruto focuses during the blank period would be fixing both the Rain village situation AND recovering his clan's history. These could even be part of the same thing, he figures if Nagato's family lived all that way away from uzushio other Uzumakis could be out there...

i've been mulling over the difference between kushina and minato's fuinjutsu styles and
i really like the idea of a lot of different ninja clans having their own distinct styles and traditions. like yeah it's what uzushio was known for but there's no reason to think they were the only ones doing it
i think for the sake of being able to pass on the skill to as many people as possible, tobirama most villages probably did some standardization of their constituent ninja clans' traditions
it's stated that kushina taught minato fuinjutsu but presumably he was also getting lessons from jiraiya. jiraiya probably uses whatever tobirama's konoha's standardized fuinjutsu is (with influence from any traditions of other konoha clans). bc of mito + the uzushio alliance, "konoha standard" probably already has a LOT of uzushio influence tho
so i think kushina's style is like 90% uzushio with some stuff she picked up in konoha thown in. because she's familiar with fuinjutsu as an inextricable part of her home country's culture, she doesn't see it as solely a ninja art. for her, fuinjutsu is a natural thing to incorporate into her life and home regardless of her duties as a shinobi. she appears more loosey-goosey with it than minato or jiraiya-- in part because of her personality in general, and also bc i like the idea of adding unnecessary flourishes for aesthetic value or for good luck or other cultural reasons. like yeah she uses it in combat, but she also just puts seals all over the place, so they might as well look pretty. she has absorbed some konoha things (and can do things like make the standard storage scrolls and base barriers, because konoha needs as many people who can do that as possible) but also it's important to her to keep the cultural side of her fuinjutsu as uzushio as possible
meanwhile minato sees his own fuinjutsu almost solely as a tool for his shinobi duties. yeah, he'll nerd out about design, and he'll participate in kushina's uzushio traditions with her, but his own style is very "streamline everything for ninja reasons." he'll cut any of the bonus flourishes he learns from kushina if he's incorporating the seal into his own stuff. he takes from other traditions a lot more because aside from what he does to support kushina, his fuinjutsu isn't participating in or preserving a culture
basically kushina's fuinjutsu is very vibes-based and minato's requires a lot of math

Void Empress, I got myself into a very nice objectively, but fun trouble that is right now bringing me a headache instead of delight. (I will enjoy it later, I just gotta whine a bit)
I'm getting into a habit of writing a little bit every day: minimum of 500 words, or about so of an idea for a fanfic/headcanon/you get it.
And generally I write these 500-words exercises on a prompt/short outline that I collect (my autistic dragon hoard, I have about 5000 now 😅).
I read an amazing small fic in Naruto, where in Uchiha clan there was tradition of: if the eye with Sharingan was passed not to direct relative, it could be both a marriage proposal and a wedding vow if accepted.
Kakashi got accosted by Mikoto after Obito "died", and after a breakdown in which he spilled what happened, Mikoto told him he is now a widower and to come with her, to change family register.
Today's prompt was: I was wed and widowed in one day.
And I started an outline for a fanfic, in a notebook. I planned for it to include this headcanon about the eyes of Uchiha. Maybe 10k words at max, after I write it.
A page of this notebook fits 500 or so words in my little beady writing, so how. How. HOW did I end up with 5 page outline, that right now:
It is looking to be AT LEAST 50k in writing
Includes Kakashi taking in Sasuke after the Uchiha slaughter. Kakashi spit it to the elders' faces that since he conceded Naruto, gave up on interacting with him as his big brother in all but name, then no way these old bags are stopping him from taking Sasuke, because Kakashi refuses to let another orphan by the village's negligence to wander around the home full of blood of the dead.
Includes Family feels because ain't my baby sunshine staying in his run-down flat on ramenand stale bread, when there's a whole house and a kitchen with stocked pantry.
Includes now SasuNaru, who are first friends and only later on are becoming a couple (I'm on the fence about making it SasuShikaNaru)
Uchiha lore and Uzushio feels, because clans have LEGACY
Survivor guilt of the last member of a great legacy VS What it feels like to find yourself an heir to a legacy bigger than life
Some Chakra headcanons, because every clan has a more-less developed affinity for a type of it, and how they learned Chakra control and jutsus before villages (only like 100-150 years before, they have those manuals still, or I'll eat my shoes)
Kakashi and Kushina feels, because she was his mother in all but blood, and I'll die on this hill. That's why Kakashi knows sealing, that's why Kakashi has Uzumaki history burned into his brain's core, because this knowledge is what he has of her.
Kakashi and Mikoto feels, because she is this aunt/uncle who you really want to impress because their praise and affirmation are actually desired and treasured. Since Obito died, and while Kakashi is a widower, he is still a spouse of an Uchiha, someone needed to teach him the traditions, tell him the legends and teach him the ways and educate on the clan's history. That person was Mikoto: I headcanon that Fugaku belonged to the main line of the clan, and she did not, and it was her family fostering Obito since he was small (he doesn't know his parents in manga, as my wiki check says). By the time Kakashi gets the eye, her parents are too old and ill, and are in elderly care (my headcanon), so it falls on her to do this.
Somehow it went from being centered on Kakashi (who IS the one wed and widowed), to SasuNaru feels and intimacy on entrusting someone with the whole history, culture and Chakra related stuff of your clan (all three are considered the last survivors of their clan, Itachi non-withstanding for being a nukenin) because those two dumbasses dumped their entire clan's lore onto each other and clutched onto it like their lifeline, because this is trust and love and they both are dysfunctional enough to understand it and the meaning of it.
And then I got Shikamaru who noticed that something's going on fast, and while his initial fascination included Naruto only, now it's both of them because Sasuke isn't an onion, he's a damn cabbage with the amount of layers that I'm sad about because I want to write him, and being a cabbage he makes it difficult.
Hilariously, Sakura is dear of mine, and I wanted her to have a role here early on, and she is a friend of Shika's now and a fellow strategist, because she has brain, she just did not know how to fully appreciate its many uses up until Shippuden. And he would be thankful for someone who can be strategic, and thoughtful, and knows what common sense and normality are, because Team 7 is the same, and as such they will need a person like that. The fact that she starts training early on and has Tsunade visiting sometimes to oversee her progress during Academy is a spoil of mine to a character I would love to see treated better by many, starting with the author
Kakashi, much like in your AU about shrieking for help into the window, decided, fuck it, Imma bend the rules as much as I personally can, and then some, and Imma get everyone in on this, so Konoha 12 grow up in Academy and training fields and green yards and cozy tatami: together, squabbling and hissing, but still close, still a generation who connected early, who hold each other dearly.
Jounins and clan heads are SO getting some dirt (straight dirt, no figuratively speaking), because kids are running around mostly together, and train together, and tackle anyone ready to be of use to their progress together. When about 20 kids accost you, and drag into the field, sometimes even the best can't escape the dust.
Which leaves with an amazing concept.
But right now I have two jobs and uni, and finals are coming up, and summer is going to be so busy with work and family time, but I'm now in love with this.
So yeah. This is me whining. Sorry to take your time.
This sounds magnificent and I hope you'll link up all whenever you have something posted.
That being said don't worry about it. It's your idea, your fic, write on it when you can/want to. There's no guilt or shame in being busy and having responsibilities. So even if it's 500 words at a time all that matters is that you're having a good time

⛓ [ArrangedMarriage] — Hashirama and Mito || @senjufound
During such a turbulent period of militant struggles and noble establishment, marriage into a high clan was often a princess' dream. Oh, how girls would scuttle about within the hidden chambers hiding about the pagoda of their fathers' estate, whispering and giggling to each other about which high lord they would take. It's a behavior encouraged by their affluent mothers and equally smitten elder sisters who experience such luxury all the same.
Princess Mito, hailing from a family rather exclusive to the coast. Their rapturous weather and strict shrine-like culture didn't participate in high society quite like their sister clans did. Often would the matriarchs and mistresses within the lord's chamber travel to allied lands under the Daimyo control and host these tea ceremonies, serving a location for unrestricted gossip. Mito's mother was one of many that did such things. Mito herself, not so much.
At young age, while the eldest of many Uzumaki daughters, was born under an important star. A divine appointment granted by the heavens to imbue her with immense strength, resolve, and most importantly, duty to manage the affairs of the preternatural; the unknown, the living, the dead, and the beastial.
As her sisters would dress in elegant, restricting kimonos. White powder on their faces, their eyebrows plucked thin, and their long, burgundy hair wrapped painfully into a crown, Mito only participated in such formalities on the occasional important holiday or pinnacle event. Immensely blessed and full of heart to see her sisters enjoy their eloquent lives, Mito, herself, was equally happy attending her many duties as High Priestess.
Everything was written in the cards for her: hone her technique, build an immense spiritual foundation, creating the Grand Barrier, and seal all the demonic forces ravaging the land to ruin in the world. It was a perfect plan set into motion the moment she had turned 17.
However, those incredible, awe-inspiring talents were the same abilities that would land her in the spotlight where even her sisters did not shine— right into the watchful, calculating gaze of the Senju High Lord.
Thinking that she could easily decline such advances and pass along the duty to one of her many sisters ( those of which were more than happy to marry into one of the strongest, military shinobi clans at the time ), her father declined her refusal. The Senju Lord was strict on the conditions and would not allow substitute: it was Mito Uzumaki, or nothing at all.
Enraged by the contractual agreement, Mito spat in the face of her father, denouncing him and his merits as Lord Patriarch of Uzushio. Refuting any and all goodwill he may host for their land and its preservation. Unfortunately, all these criticisms fell on deaf ears.
Within the fortnight, Mito was packaged up in the same ornamental gowns that ought to be dressed on her sisters, her hair twisted in beautiful sacred braids with all the golden pins and talismans that as Shrine Maiden should never be without. Her eyelids shine with a deep, jade green with her lips painted a dark cherry rouge. With any luck, she was granted one female attendant for her travels and comforts; a meek young girl who could no more than squeeze her mistress' hand and affirm that this was only a meeting visit and that if his lord does not see fit, then she'll sooner be returning back to the Land of Whirlpools than she could blink.
Not exactly the words that she wanted to hear, but she won't dispirit the girl for trying.
At the Senju gates, their white-golden Palanquin lowered before the brooding iron doors, yawning open upon their arrival. The attendant was out first, opening the door for her highness, along with ensuring her outfit slipped out beautifully with not a detail out of place.
Once out, Mito did not bow, instead waited to for whoever to come towards her and lead her inside.

So sorry that I have to do this to you, but Imma attack you with more feels. So in Red light au Jiraiya doesn’t take Naruto on his training trip, Naruto doesn’t trust or like him and Tsunade isn’t going to let him be alone with Naruto ever, not after what he did. So what to do? Naruto needs to get stronger and he needs to train but who will train him? Orochimaru will. Naruto and Orochimaru with a guard to keep Orochimaru under observation (Probably Anko or Tenko, maybe both) go around to dismantle the Sound Village and all the bases Orochimaru made. They fix what Orochimaru had hurt and it feels good. Orochimaru finds a sort of peace in it, taking the people he’s hurt and under Naruto’s guidance leading them to for a better life. To Konoha if they still want to be ninja, to homes of their own if they don’t. As they do this Orochimaru trains him, makes use of Naruto incredible chakra reserves by teaching him as many Justus as possible, helping him master all the nature transformations, how to use a sword in a dance like way ( The red light district way, beautiful and deadly), utilising clones to learn even faster and blending all of Orochimaru knowledge and skill with Naruto’s fighting style and creativity. He teaches him about the Akatsuki members and their weaknesses, after all who better to prepare him for what’s coming than someone who was once a member? He also teaches him every forbidden jutsu he learnt and every mistake that lead him to where he was before Naruto reached out his hand. (He won’t let Naruto become him, not when he’s already so much better.) The trip is emotional especially when Naruto meets Karin (Another Uzumaki whose been hurt and used) but also healing as these flowers work together to be better and blossom. And if Naruto wants to learn more about seals? Well, Orochimaru teaches him as much as he can before going back to Konoha grabbing Tsuande (who herself is a 4th Uzumaki) and taking her, Naruto and Karin to Uzushio to learn from the remnants of their homeland as Tsuande teaches them about the culture that she learnt from her grandmother. Maybe even learning Uzumaki clan Justus like their sealing chains. Naruto returns to Konoha with the skills and knowledge of Orochimaru, the training of the red light distract perfected and the remaining knowledge and soul of Uzushio with him. The Akatsuki and the world isn’t ready for what’s about to hit them. Especially not once he reunites with his team, Sasuke who trained under Kakashi and Sakura who trained under Tsuande. Team 7 will be better than the Sannin ever were.
It’s no secret that by the time the dust settles and Orochimaru is healed and named if not an innocent man then a man that did what he could in a terrible situation and allowed to atone for his wrongs in the way only someone with the power and influence of a Sannin could (by dismantling the entire village he built with his bare hands piece by rotting piece) that he and Naruto are close.
It was apparent by the time they arrived back at the village, the little fox placed firmly between himself and Kabuto while Tsunade glared Jiraiya into submission, chattering away about everything they would do after the trial like the outcome was already assured. The guards at the gate looked at the sweet flower horrified at his ease around a monster. Orochimaru was tempted to tell him that under the red lanterns off their home, all flags looked the same. Morality was a fluid thing when you had to steal or sell yourself to survive. Even more so when you were raised hearing from everyone but liars thieves and whores that you’re a monster too.
No Orochimaru was not surprised the kit clung to his side until the moon pale form of his brother appeared at the mouth of a side street. Until little Aki had stopped their procession with a glittering hair pin pressed against Orochimaru’s throat and a sweet smile doing nothing to lessen the overwhelming amounts of killing intent rolling off of him.
“Hurt him and I will treat you like the rest of the weeds.”
Orochimaru fought the urge to coo and he tipped his head, silently signaling Kabuto to stand down before he could attack his uncle in broad daylight. His little brother was so adorable, all that blood thirst behind such a pretty facade.
“Of course.”
Aki had nodded, swept between them to pull Naruto into a hug, and walked with them to Hokage tower as if he had belonged.
He did, in a way. A representative of Orochimaru’s home. His clan. His family. The heir to the district with just as much training and responsibility as any clan head’s brat.
So when it came time to train Naruto, when it came time to make the most of the two and a half years they had before the Akatsuki began to hunt the little fox with their best hounds, who else could offer that protection, that training, than Orochimaru?
Certainly not Jiraiya, who kept the sweet child on alert at all times and was most likely to bring them both home in pieces because the sweet boy didn’t trust him. Couldn’t trust him. Not after what he did. An entire half of his skill set would go entirely ignored. The parts that most write of as Kunoichi talents. The parts that were gained from years in the district in order to survive.
Not Tsunade, locked away in her tower. Between the hospital and the hat there was simply not enough time in the day to give the little powerhouse the attention he needed. And, truthfully, she had never possessed the kind of subtlety demanded from one trained in the district. The double speak that would always drive her mad. The quick fingers and sweet smiles that could end a war as easily as start one. She could teach the fox to use those massive chakra stores of course, but again, it would be at the expense of another part of him.
Orochimaru, however, who had grown up under the same red lights hearing the same lessons. Who had in turn passed them on to each of his children whether they knew it or not. Who knew their enemy from the inside and would bring each of them down without a second thought if they so much as glanced at his kit. Who, after Danzo had been named a traitor and the whole sordid tale had come out, was planning on stealing away a certain spy from under their noses anyway, taking the one with the claim on his little kit’s head and bringing him home as he had been brought home.
He was, if not the obvious choice, than the right choice.
It didn’t make him chafe any less being assigned watchers (his own children for all that they despised him) to make sure he didn’t harm the kit.
There would never be enough penance for what he had done to Anko and Tenzo. Never enough assurance that he had been forced. Never enough anything but… a tentative truce was reached out of care for their mutual charge.
(It was times like that when Naruto leapt between the three of them laughing and chattering and easing tensions that he had to admit the little fox was far better suited for the hat than he had ever been.)
So they dismantled the Sound. They tore down Orochimaru’s empire with clawed fingers and fanged smiles. They healed what hurts they could and cut out the rot too deep to be fixed. Through it all they trained and in leaps and bounds, the little fox began to thrive.

My NH Fair Wrapped!
I messed up my first draft and had to start over 😭
Tumblr media
My favorite, favorite post has to be @nh2022's Creator Spotlight on Katarinahime
I loved how Des put together all of the tributes from Tumblr and Twitter. I don't regularly go on Twitter, so I loved seeing what others had created.
Tumblr media
In no particular order, I loved
🧡 Day 10: Cultural - I love seeing everyone put NaruHina into different cultures!!! This will always be a favorite prompt for me.
🧡 Day 14: AU from fanmade contents - Sessakag wrote a story for shamy's art!! And lavdiiaa made an art for magmawrites's story!!!! I just live for this reciprocal inspiration in this fandom!!
🧡 Day 25: Hokage & First Lady / Office AU - just fun. So fun.
🧡 Day 28: Video game - so I've never interrupted my husband when he was playing games, but ngl the fics make it sound like a good idea.
🧡 Day 30: Bookstore - I didn't know how much I needed this AU, I loved all the fanarts so much. I need to write a bookstore au!!
Tumblr media
@golubhat's art is so cool. Something about the lines and details is really pleasing? Also @lavdiiaa's art makes me want to write something spicy 🙈
Tumblr media
In no particular order, I loved
💝 "Casualties of War" and "Make Love Not War" from "NαɾυHιɳα Mσɳƚԋ DҽƈҽɱႦҽɾ 2022" by @sessakag - Rated E, Canon-Divergent AU, Two-shot. It’s set in an alternate universe in which the attack that destroyed Uzushio failed, and in retaliation, Uzu waged war on several of the Elemental Nations. Naruto was born in Uzushiogakure and Hinata in Konoha. Prompts: Forbidden & Enemies-to-lovers.
The point of canon-divergence is such an original idea. Also I just love secret relationships, and the added dose of enemies-to-lovers makes this perfect!
💝 "The Moon Sure is Beautiful Tonight" by @happyocelot - Rated T, Canon-Compliant, One-shot. Technically, Hinata was a chuunin. Technically, Naruto was still a genin. Technically, genin were supposed to be led by jounin, forming groups of three, barring special occasions. Technically, Hinata wasn’t supposed to be Naruto’s squad captain at all for this mission. But technically, Kakashi was Hokage, and technically he could play Cupid for them. Prompt: Blank Period.
Happyocelot is a genius at writing ridiculous situations! This fic is full of humor, I smiled the whole way through!
💝 "i don't know who loves us more, me or the stars" by @secrettastemakerland - Rated T, RTN! Modern AU, One-shot. person a who wants to stargaze and person b who wants to makeout trope ft menmahina. Prompt: Stargazing.
RTN!Hinata is perfect in this. I love how sassy and in-love she is in this cute fic.
💝 "Wake up next to you" from "Some Type of Love" by @croissantsandmacarons - Rated T, Modern AU, One-shot. During their Christmas party at Kiba's place, Hinata has to confess to the man of her dreams. Unfortunately, nothing goes has planned, but isn't it for the better? Prompt: Waking up next to you.
I'm still thinking about how adorable this fic is. I love so many things about it, the pining, the flirting, the cuddling! It's probably the fluffiest fic I've read all year.
💝 Prompt: Sunshine Family - tanka by @bornonthebreakofdawn
This tanka encapsulates what we love about NaruHina. It's short and sweet. Also I love the extra effort of having the appropriate picture and border. The whole thing is so pretty and lovely.
Tumblr media
First off, obviously
💖 Day 23 unrequited by @shamylicious-blog - I'm just 😭. I'm so, so lucky that you decided to read my fic!!!!! You encouraged me so much to finish my fic, and even now, I'm so glad that I finished it. Thank you, shamy, you fill my heart with love!! (Naruto, you heartbreaker!!! AHHHH)
The rest is really hard to choose because I loved so many, but 4 more that I loved in no particular order:
💗 What about this book? by @golubhat - My goodness, isn't the background just to die for? Also the intimacy of Naruto doing almost like a kabe-don 🙈 The details of the books, flowers, clothing, everything in this piece are eye-catching.
💗 Taking a break from exercises routine by @alexis513 - This art reminded me of that Tumblr thread that was going around for awhile where artists were adding on different ways NaruHina kiss to account for their height difference. I think one person put Hinata on a stool, but no one drew them like this! I love to think that they give each other kisses as often as possible x) My other fave of yours was your masquerade one!
💗 Hogwarts by @iamdslr - This art gave me so, so much joy. Getting-caught-staring-by-your-crush is one of my favorite things in the world (i've probs written this trope at least 3 times). Naruto's such a dork lolll and Hinata loves it!!!
💗 December 14th: Yin-Yang by @achinghcarts - This has got to be one of the coolest aes boards I have ever seen. Super creative and beautiful, I love it!
Tumblr media
💓 @sessakag - I'm pretty sure everyone, all of us, thinks it's crazy that you actually submitted a fic for every prompt. How did you find the time to write. You're simply superhuman.
💓 @powerful-niya - I'm impressed with how much you develop your visualizations of your fics. From the details of the characters' clothing to your matching moodboards. I can really sense the passion you have for your fics!
💓 @croissantsandmacarons - You guys already know that you're both forever faves. Thank you, Chloe, for adding onto your French!Naruto and Hmong!Hinata AU, that story is so, so precious.
💓 @secrettastemakerland - Your one-shots this month were short-and-sweet, which is exactly what I need, I feel like I never have time to read these days. But your angsty ones could definitely use a sequel, please consider 👀🙏🏼
💓 @bornonthebreakofdawn - I know you might be like, wondering why you're in this list, but honest, I really look forward to your poetry during these events. I love how pretty you make your posts, too.
Tumblr media
THIS IS REALLY HARD TO CHOOSE. in no particular order:
💕 @xx---locketdragon---xx - I love the vibrancy of your colors. Also, each one was so cute, but my favorite was your Forbidden prompt one, in which Hinata felt embarrassed for wanting to hold hands with Naruto!! Like, yes!!!! That's my favorite shy girl!!!
💕 @lavdiiaa - All your submissions were so delicious, but especially the nsfw ones 🙈. My fave is definitely your High School prompt, in which Naruto is feeling Hinata up under the school uniform. Something about this one really makes me, like happy???? Your style is somehow, like a visual manifestation of Sessakag's writing.
💕 @shamylicious-blog - I absolutely loved all of your tributes to Katarinahime's fics. Also, I loved the pinky promise one, the bookstore one, the masquerade one, and can we talk more about the arranged marriage one? like what is the backstory for this??? I must know.
💕 @saradesuchiha - You have to be on everyone's favorites list. Your art graced our dashboards everyday, from these adorable NH fair headers to the profile picture border!!!! just, thank you. Thank you for being our NaruHina champion!!!!! You brought so much joy into our lives this past month!!!!!!! 💯👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
💕 @jengmart - Your NaruHina is so, so soft, glowy, and cute, and I just want to squeeze them like stuffed animals. My favorites were your bookstore one, your gender swap one, and The Last Anniversary one!
Tumblr media
I guess....just taking this event to heal a little. Setting aside more time to mourn, to remember, to reread Katarina's work. I'm still in shock, the grief doesn't go away, but this event was an impetus to contribute again to the fandom that allowed me to "meet" her. I was able to have fun again!! which is nice. I wrote less fics than I wanted to but more than I expected to, which is nice. I also love impromptu inspiration, so thank you again Des U for the wonderful Christmas cards.
I really hope people who may not have heard of Katarinahime before this event take the time to read her works. She was a beautiful, funny, intelligent person, and her stories are intimate insight into her voice and the values that were important to her. I cannot stress enough how absolutely high-tier her talent and skill was. Please, please, please read Katarina's stories.

Authorshipp i love shisui sm but i kinda have trouble following your series cos idk where they start and where they end and which ones connected to each other? 😭 do you have a directory or smth sksksk or are they different settings where the same thing was that shisui never died? Thaankss btw
Hey! ✨
I totally understand the confusion, I only have one proper multi-fic series but there's a lot of topical and thematic overlap, so let's see if I can't clear this up a bit~
I'll colour code what fics in my series are directly connected, what fics are crossovers, when a fic is a (collection of) one-shots, and note when my headcanons (like teammates, Mangekyou shenanigans etc) are particularly important.
This list is predominantly Shisui-centric but I have included a few of my general Narutoverse ones (few though they may be)
Eyes SERIES: Shisui doesn't die, whether that's by AU, Time Travel, or Reincarnation
No Tomorrow: Shisui wakes up two months before he dies. Inoichi-Shisui platonic. Squad Two (Kakashi, Shisui, Genma, Raidou, Tenzo). Mangekyou shenanigans.
In The Eye of the Beholder: Shisui and Tobi time travel to the Warring Clans Era. Squad Two mention. Mangekyou shenanigans.
WARD: Konohan Orphans are raised by the State. Shisui, Gai, Kakashi, Anko etc found family.
Messenger: Shisui interrupts Minato's fight with the masked attacker on the night the Kyuubi is released. Shisui-Inoichi platonic. Mangekyou shenanigans.
The Red Ally: Naruto/LotR. Shisui is the Tenth Walker in the Fellowship.
A Concept of Loyalty: Shisui kills Danzo when he steals his eye. Mangekyou shenanigans.
And All The Stars Seemed Closer: One-shot collection. Shisui pairings. Mangekyou shenanigans. Squad Two mention.
THE 'A' IN ANBU STANDS FOR SURPRISE ADOPTION: Shisui and his ANBU Squadmates (Kakashi, Genma, Raidou, Tenzo) accidentally gain a reputation for child-rearing. Squad Two mention.
New Leaf: Shisui is reincarnated to the Warring Clans Era. Mangekyou shenanigans.
HOPE AU: I hope you'll reach those places SERIES
Part One (WATER): No Tomorrow: Shisui wakes up two months before he dies. Inoichi-Shisui platonic. Squad Two (Kakashi, Shisui, Genma, Raidou, Tenzo). Mangekyou shenanigans.
Part Two (AIR): Until Dawn Breaks: post-NoT, Shisui battles trauma on a special mission, facing new enemies and a few unfortunately familiar ones too. Inoichi-Shisui platonic. Squad Two (Kakashi, Shisui, Genma, Raidou, Tenzo). Mangekyou shenanigans.
Tomorrowland: One-shot collection in the HOPE AU-verse, some Alternative Universe, some what-ifs, some directly from the series-canon.
☆ෆ°*。☆Authorship Ficlet Fest '22-23!☆。*゚ෆ☆ SERIES
Collection of One-shot prompts (see my submission post in the #Torship tag) for 2022-23. So far, all ficlets include Inoichi-Shisui platonic and/or Squad Two mention.
Arda Adventures SERIES
The Red Ally: Naruto/LotR. Shisui is Tenth Walker in the Lord of the Rings Fellowship.
He Bled Red As Dawn: Naruto/LotR/Atlantis crossover. Uzushio is the Lost City that sank beneath the surface millennia ago. When Gandalf falls whilst battling the Balrog of Moria, Shisui, accompanied by Crystal-Heart-Kushina, finds him.
The Red Istari: Naruto/LotR. Shisui wakes in the Southern Harad Desert after dying in canon. Becoming known as 'The Red Demon', he sets off in search of answers and his own kind... namely, 'The Grey Istari'. Culture, World-building, Mangekyou shenanigans.
Yamanaka Shisui SERIES
Some of my fics that centre on my headcanon-ed Shisui-Inoichi platonic bond.
Never Trust A Blonde (Especially If You Don't Know They're One): Naruto/HP crossover. After finishing his mysterious summer internship at the Department of Mysteries, Shisui is in for a surprise when the time comes for himself and his fellow sixth-years to be assigned their Mentees. Shisui-Inoichi platonic.
Tomorrowland: One-shot collection in the HOPE AU-verse, some Alternative Universe, some what-ifs, some directly from the series-canon. Shisui-Inoichi platonic. Mangekyou shenanigans.
Messenger: Shisui interrupts Minato's fight with the masked attacker on the night the Kyuubi is released. Shisui-Inoichi platonic. Mangekyou shenanigans.
Tumblr Drabbles:
Fics directly crossposted from asks I've answered here. Some are connected to the HOPE AU, some are not. Ask games are linked in the endnotes.
KAGE SERIES
Wherein I make an argument for Hokage candidates
MIGHTY: Kakashi refuses to become Godaime. His favourite quip for shirking duty is 'make Gai do it'. At the end of his patience, the Sandaime decides to do just that. The future significantly improves, when you think about it.
SUKEBAN: Kakashi and Tenzo accidentally circulate the news that the Senju Clan has a male Heir. Tsunade absolutely isn't going to let a rumour like that go untouched. The village falls apart and is mended in very short order.
Timeline:
(excluding oneshot collections as timings may vary)
Starts when Shisui is a child:
WARD
Messenger
Yeah Kunai are cool... But have you had dessert?
Starts before Shisui's Canon Death/Age:
THE 'A' IN ANBU STANDS FOR SURPRISE ADOPTION
He Bled Red As Dawn
SUKEBAN
Starts at/after Shisui's Canon Death/Age:
HOPE AU (No Tomorrow, Until Dawn Breaks)
In The Eye of The Beholder
The Red Ally
A Concept Of Loyalty
New Leaf
The Red Istari
MIGHTY
Hope this helps!

YES YES YES!!! Especially in Naruto's case it's just... He's an orphan who's orgins aren't disclosed to him, in a world so clan-focused but without a heritage of his own yk? It's just loss. And in a way he doesn't even know what he's lost. And then he finds out about his clan and family, that they exist— except that... they don't. Not anymore. A whole hidden village is gone. The Uzumaki remants scattered throughout the elemental nations. There aren't much of them and
Naruto never got taught his clan's techniques, history, traditions or heritage
Nagato is a descendant of the Uzumaki clan
Karin's mother died when she was young
Between all of that, how much of the Uzumaki clan's history, traditions, techniques etc were preserved? Just how much is lost?
Karin and Nagato would probably know of them the most, but still they probably wouldn't know much.
Is reconnecting even possible for them? With a clan's, a hidden village's, culture being lost to time? Falling into obscurity with no one to preserve it...
Just I HAVE FEELS OKAY 🌷
[original ask]
Yes yes yes, ALL of this.
Naruto, Karin, and Nagato have all lost so much, including each other! There are so few Uzumaki left in the world and the ones that are still alive are either hidden or kept apart by some stupid, pointless war orchestrated by people who just see them as weapons and tools to be used and discarded.
Especially with how desperate they all are to find a place to belong, a place where they can be safe. And if they let themselves stop being manipulated by others, they could have that with each other! They could form a new family in the scraps of what's left of Uzushio! Surviving and thriving in spite of a world that wants them dead!
I think this is why AUs where they do actually go to the ruins of Uzushio and start rebuilding and discovering the hidden stashes of information and cultural artifacts and heirlooms. Because if the shinobi of Uzushio were infamous for their sealing to the point where the other villagers wanted them completely gone, then they HAVE to have had sealed vaults and hidden libraries, tucked away and just waiting for another seal master to come along and open them.
It's something so similar to what indigenous people go through every single day, using the scraps of what colonization left of our cultures to piece together what we've lost and create new traditions. This is especially true for tiny communities, which may only have a few dozen people left if even that many. I think a lot of indigenous people dream of an untouched settlement of our people, some intact city or temple or anything, where we could find the missing pieces of our culture and history. With colonialism and continued "land development" and the realities of nomadic society, that just. . . isn't an option for most indigenous communities but it is for the Uzumaki!
I just want so desperately for them to connect to each other, to find other Uzumaki (because there has to be more, there has to be) and work together to rebuild their culture and community.

Going off on a tangent (I’m lowkey obsessed with your blog so now I’m going to yell my thoughts at you)
I get so disappointed at the lack of any lore drops between Naruto’s heritages like obviously the uzamaki’s were exploited and basically had a like genocide (Karin’s backstory had me so fucked) and maybe it’s to show how normal it is in shinobi society to just brush anything under the rug when it comes to genocides and systemic issues which duh but I wish I could’ve seen more nuanced stuff like diaspora between the few survivors of lost clans, how they survived or heck how they try to preserve their culture.
Idk maybe I’m not making any sense but as someone who has like no ties to my origins (AA, especially growing up to ppl denying AA culture and how AA culture gets sold) I wished I saw that kind of relatability in Naruto since he himself is basically separated from his culture and didn’t even know who his parents were I feel like that could lead to some like deeper stuff. I feel like Naruto would try to preserve his cultures and clans (he does in way ig in boruto but I barely seen that anime and that’s a whole other discussion with how clans are treated)
And in a way I guess it’s the most realistic part of Naruto like yea the ppl in charge might give a nod in acknowledgement of how they were bystanders and that the system failed ppl (if they even go as far as to accept that) it’s just to make the ppl they exploit/ed shut up and be happy that they were even seen in the first place (working class, blm, Palestine, Native Americans etc)
But god do I wish Naruto dived into the isolation of the lack of culture or even the lack of your own ppl can have.
first of all thank you for your support and engagement, it gives joy. feel free to yell at me whenever, i have a naruto so im used to it.
this is also something that used to upset me and now just frustrates me. i technically wasnt the last uchiha until after the war, but itachi and i couldnt communicate, madara cut ties with the clan, and just like me obito left the village as a child. one of the worst things about the genocide was this crushing anxiety of "what will become of our history?" i was old enough to have pride in the concept of "uchiha" but too young to have a meaningful understanding of it. and i guess deep down thats what contributed to my steady depersonalization and increasing franticness-- i knew there was really nothing i could do to preserve my clan so at least i needed to preserve their honour (and this was also why i understand itachi's reasons for not sharing the truth).
all this to say, my heart breaks for naruto because he doesnt even know what he doesnt know. and like you said, thats mostly a function of how konoha chose to operate. i still dont understand why they couldnt at least tell naruto about his mom. i dont understand why jiraiya didnt come back to teach him sealing. but i do know why and its because the shinobi system works best if you dont see yourself as an individual first. everything you are and have needs to belong to the state, and if it doesnt, then they will eliminate it. konoha took advantage of the genocide in uzushio to essentially traffic their women and then say there was "friendship" between the two villages...then do nothing to preserve the uzumaki or uzushio history. disgusting.
youre making sense. ive actually thought that naruto's case is similar to children from asia who were trafficked and brought to western countries post-war, completely removed from their culture and often neglected and abused for a culture they couldnt even own. i think the uchiha are a bit similar to african americans given the systematic lack of consideration for contributions to the development of society, the war between respectability/assimilation and self-determination/anti-discrimination, and like you said the commodification and demonization of culture. and i do agree with you about naruto, but i think it also helps him sometimes. for better or for worse hes...simple. he doesnt think too much about things he doesnt know, and that helps him get through his days with less of a load. he does have his bad days, where hes...lost, but if he were any other way he wouldnt be naruto. luckily the boruto versions of us arent real, but even then i think they make sense given what they were trying to accomplish with that show (ie. dumb down everything for the Manly Men who didnt get what was happening the first time).
when i was traveling after the war i did try to do some preliminary investigation into existing uzumaki refugees and diaspora, but it was a bit difficult though due to their history. ive been thinking about putting together an extended campaign and mission for us to reunify the uzumaki, for his birthday. i just need to figure out how best to go about it. keep it a secret between us.

how is naruto diaspora / indigenous coded? curious bc i’ve never watched and i’ve never heard that before
spoilers for naruto/// the short answer is that naruto's mom is from uzushiogakure which collapsed due to war sometime before naruto was born. those who survived fled their homeland. they were displaced and separated across the globe seeking asylum.
major spoiler warnings of future characters and plot point revealed later on in shippuden!!
there were way more naruto blogs back in 2016-18 ish, particularly ones that were looking at naruto through an anti-imperialism lens! i wish i could remember the blogs and posts for them!! I don't really participate in main fandom stuff tbh so it's understandable if you never encountered this type of analysis. also noting that kishimoto had a decent story that looked at the effects of war and child soldiers, but he totally switched it up near the end and naruto became TRASH.
The people of Uzushio are only vaguely touched upon, many of them are dead due to the village's collapse (war). Naruto's mom and many other survivors were displaced because of this. There are actually many characters in Naruto who are ethnically punished for their genetic abilities, the Uchiha is one of them that has a long history of oppression since the very inception of Konohagakure (where Naruto takes place) and with characters like Haku and Kimimaru. The naruto universe is comprised countries named after elements (land of fire, land of water, etc) that have daimyos/feudal lords, within those countries are villages, towns, and ninja villages. Ninja villages are military states which operate in secret war between countries and the villages are secluded, hence Konohagakure (village hidden in the leaves). Haku grew up in a post-war remote village where genetic ninja abilities (kekkei genkai) had been used and became hated for their use in war with the masses punishing them by death for example.
To go back to Naruto and his mom, Uzushio also had clans that possess their own culture and ninja abilities. Uzushigakure is known for their fuinjutsu (seal writing), but the Uzumaki clan has other traits like immanse chakra resevoir, chakra chains, etc. Karin and Nagato happen to also come from the Uzumaki clan. (<- I am assuming "clan" is descriptive of having a common ancestor and not necessarily descriptive of a tight knit expansive family unit.)
Naruto grows up not knowing anything about his parents, he is socially ostracized from a young age. He is not allowed to know about his father for plot reasons, but he is also barred from learning about his mom as well as his uzushio heritage which is very typical to diaspora/Indigenous narrative... Interestingly enough, the leaf village's behaviour and so much of the story is influenced by Uzushio's collapse. Many Uzumaki's are actually very important players in the narrative! Nagato who is the main antagonist in a later arc, is a displaced Uzumaki who ended up in Amegakure which was where the second shinobi war was fought. His parents were killed by invading konoha shinobi and he experienced severe poverty and trauma moving him to form the Akatsuki with his 2 friends who were also war orphans with their goals of eradicating war. There were actually suppressed with support from Danzo Shimura who is one of Konoha's leaders who propels the oppression of Uchiha in the leaf village (who are also Indigenous coded).
Also if we want to bring IRL theory into this, Indigenous is a global term. Many western nations prefer to believe Indigenous only refers to the groups of people who have not had their relationship to land disrupted which is a pretty horrible definition that is based on the stereotypical imagination of Indigenous cultures across the globe, it is also a horrific definition when you consider the forcible removal of many Indigenous people from their lands (Reserves, the trans atlantic slave trade, other forcible displacements via imperialism). Indigineity can be descriptive of tribes, nations, ethnic groups, clans, and even villages. I know you haven't watched Naruto, but this was actually a pretty common sentiment from cool BIPOC Naruto watchers a couple years ago!!
On a lighter note there was also a really fun head canon that because Sasuke's favourite food is tomatoes, there was a strong implication that he was Indigenous because tomatoe/tomatl can be traced back to Aztec cultivation!

One of my favourite extensions of the Naruto-has-ties-to-Konoha-Immigrants trope is that there’s an Uzushio refugee quarter in Konoha (that Ten Ten grew up in) that just collectively is heart broken that they’re not allowed to embrace they’re lost relative because of Konoha secrecy laws but start to welcome him with open arms by the time he makes Genin and the secrecy ramps down a bit. Like maybe some of the adults just try and contribute little things to his well-being when he’s a kid like leaving random fresh fruits in his house or sneaking sweet-dream seals outside his building or buying something for him that he was run out of a shop for asking for and leaving it at his doorstep. After the village starts re-construction after Pein/ the war more elders just start approaching him wanting to share parts of their culture with him. After the war but before he becomes hokage he starts taking sealing really seriously as a part of his heritage tied both to his mother and Jiraiya and maybe one day takes a mission where him and a bunch of community elders do a pilgrimage to the ruins of Uzushio. Also maybe Karin comes too and Naruto strikes up a cousin-like relationship with her.
