Out of every movie character, I unfortunately relate most to Alva Restrepo from Vampire's Kiss (1988).

Alva is a timid, shy, hardworking, femcel, brown secretary who is literally invisible at her job and is treated like shit by everyone because she’s the lowest on the corporate ladder. She’s broke and takes the metro to work, still lives with her parents at the age of 30, is sexually repressed and probably a virgin, is constantly swamped with work by her deranged boss, wears homely clothing, is religious and always wears a gold crucifix, will never be promoted, has no romantic/social life, and just does laundry on her day off LOL.

I love the scene where Nic Cage’s character assigns her the worst task in the office and tells her:

“Alva, there is no one else in this entire office that I could possibly ask to share such a horrible job. You're the lowest on the totem pole here… Every other secretary here has been here longer than you… And even if there was someone here who was here even one day longer than you, I still wouldn't ask that person to partake in such a miserable job as long as you were around…

It's a horrible, horrible job; sifting through old contract after old contract. I couldn't think of a more horrible job if I wanted to. And you have to do it! You have to or I'll fire you. You understand? Do you? Good.”

MC: Ruth Costello

Slightly bigger book from my previously read and reviewed on, but also part of a series. Duh. This is book 1/4 in Vampire Mafia Monsters. Typical time to read is about 5h17m, 318 pages. Still ended it before the day was over. But let me tell you, it was fast — doesn't mean it was excellent.

Ok, it's not that I didn't like it, the premise was good, but I thought the plot was all over the place with far too many players going for the kill, and too much mystery that lead nowhere for a good while, even tho there were questions answered, some were left hanging in the air. I read the sneak peek for the next book and I felt more lost than the tv show, Lost. But anyway.

Ruth is the daughter of a very rich business man, and she's wanting to clear the slate, clear the dust, and make her dad's business legit when the time comes for her to take the reigns. But not before some very heavy stuff happens. Too many people wanting a piece of the pie. Too many supernatural people present: wolf, vampire, fae – everything was a mix and match that left you dizzy. Ruth was portrait as both ruthless and naive, it wasn't a balanced combo, to be honest. But I shrugged it off. Too many roaches to deal with (memorize about, and you all know I suck at that). But please watch Ruth fall for a unknown vampire, on their first night. Watch Ruth uncover some things. Watch Ruth face the FBI, a hacker, and a crazy nurse that I'm starting to feel like she might have helped on speeding the demise of her father. But I can be wrong.

I don't have much to say after this; if you like crazy plots this is for you. It's a 18+ story, but the actual action is about 86% into the book. Before then, it's just the story of a woman trying to gain her bearings while everyone else tries to undermine her. And here I'm going into my next read, bye!
