Birthday Countdown Revchase Snippets - Day 18

To celebrate Valentine's month as well as my birthday month, I'm going to post a snippet of Revchase every day until my birthday, using these prompts- there are 25 so it leads right up to my birthday!! Here is day 18!!

18- Write about how each member of your ship smells.

Pairing: Robert Chase/Reverie (oc)

Chase loves the way Reverie smells, and Reverie loves the way Chase smells. From their natural scents– what they smell when the perfume and cologne applied in the morning is gone, as is the soap in the shower, and the laundry detergent has worn off from their clothes, face pressed into neck– to the aforementioned fragrances artificially applied, neither party can get enough of the others’ scent.

They share body wash and shampoo, the former of which is a rather masculine scent with hints of fruit and oceanic influence, while the latter is classic Head and Shoulders. Both of them enjoy these scents, considering they share them and wouldn't keep buying it if they didn't, but as what one scrubs themself with in the shower does, it soon wears off and gives way for either their natural smell or the scents they put on.

For Reverie, it's Paris Hilton’s Can Can, a perfume found in a mostly clear container with a pink top. She sprays a small amount into the air around her in the morning and allows it to fall on her. This perfume, intended to be sexy yet playful, is a perfect fit for Reverie in Chase’s mind, and just a small whiff of it drives him crazy. It's got floral notes and heart, with a somewhat warmer base. Neither can put their fingers on the exact sources, but Reverie enjoys how flirty it makes her feel and Chase does, too.

Chase's scent of choice is from an independent brand, and doesn't have a particular name. The scent is surprisingly light, highly masculine and cool, and even has a subtle hint of leather to it. Which, good for both himself and Reverie, who bites her lip when inhaling this cologne, matches up with his favorite leather jacket.

Speaking of their clothes, Reverie has always washed everything in Diva, a Tyler laundry detergent, and she continues to do so with Chase’s clothes now that they share a home. At first, Chase had no real opinion on the smell– it's very feminine, but that doesn't bother him. As time has gone on, though, he's grown to adore Diva, as it reminds him of Reverie– of her clothes, his own, of the sheets of the bed they share.

Working in a hospital, however, alters the way the two smell. Less so for Chase now that he is back in diagnostics, more so for Reverie in the surgical wing. Both are likely to get some kind of antiseptic on them during the day, and neither are opposed to it. Reverie actually likes the way it smells, and would bathe in Hibiclens daily if it made sense. The soap they use to scrub in for surgery is also nice, and when Chase smells it, he just thinks of her.

When all is done at work, and the various different smells of the day are done and gone, they are happy to collapse into each other and nuzzle their faces into the others’ neck and drink up the natural smell of their skin. Reverie's is still somehow sweet, even if she has been sweating. Chase's is fresh and clean, regardless of what he's done.

But all in all, no matter the specific smell one may ask about, Reverie and Chase will always tell anyone who asks that their favorite smell is each other.

- Lucifer by SHINee || First and foremost I can see him performing this, easily. Aside from that, the song is tasty and classic. Jamil is a smart attractive man that is incredibly talented despite flying under the radar. People know of him but don’t take note until they know him, similarly to this song. It goes hard and you’ve probs heard it mentioned but you haven’t experienced until you played it at 3 am, screaming your heart out. Get to know Jamil and he ain’t just “some guy”

Kalim

- Um Oh Ah Yeh by MAMAMOO || This song reminds me of the 90s/2000s and there’s something about Kalim that also does that for me. Maybe it’s the not a care in the world disposition. I can see and feel in the second verse’s rap, Kalim’s warm smile. I can imagine him grabbing my hand, telling me to chin up. The choruses make me think of simpler times. Finally, Kalim seems like he’s always having a good time just like this song

- Candy Pop by TWICE (yes i know its jp) || This song always puts me in a good mood. It makes me feel warm inside and like everything will work out. When I see Ortho, I feel the need to protect him but also can’t help but feel like everything will be okay. Something about him brings a happy, warm peace to my heart that reminds me to just take a moment and find the good in life. The peppy beat of it just makes me think about how he almost always is smiling!

- Fairy of Shampoo by TOMORROW X TOGETHER || the song starts an I feel as if I’ve awoken floating in the deep sea, but i’m not scared. I feel at peace and as if I’ve been here before. The song tastes like iced tea and feels like nostalgia. When I look at Idia I see my past self and even present self. I’m afraid, I want to hide. The feelings the verses gives me reminds me of laying in bed, curled up in a jacket that hides my whole body, similarly to Idia’s. The song and Idia’s character call out to a nostalgic but soft side to a distant past I can’t recall. I want to stay with them until I can remember

- gogobebe by MAMAMOO || It’s got a lazy but sexy sound that Leona emboides. When the song picks up in the choruses it’s like it takes over your body, drowning the listener in an ocean of sensuality and playful teasing. It’s got a lil edge though too that caters to the gruff “fuck off” expression he has. I see the noise Hwasa makes at the end as the wanton but confused noise fans make as the man leaves, tail swinging after teasing them

- BAAM by Momoland || BAAM has such a sassy hyped up beat that screams a bitch that gets shit done, owns who they are, and lives life having fun. And it embodies everything I feel upon seeing Ruggie's smug smile. Even the rap bit during the second chorus has the sass and done-ness of “Leona-san! Get up!!”

Jack

- Bomb by AleXa || This song kicks your ass and so does Jack. Don’t for four seconds think he won’t beat the shit outta ya for underestimating him, similarly to AleXa and her music. The energy and the “I’ll show you” vibes remind me of this big dweeb. I would fear this man but turn to love him much like how I felt about this song as it was this artist’s first song. How do I say they just embody each other in my opinion lol

- DUN DUN by Everglow || The sass. This song screams THAT BITCH, just like Vil’s everything. The way he carries himself is personified in this song. The power the song holds reminds me of his unique magic and how intense it is. Finally, the slower bridge is mythical and light as if giving the listener a feeling like they are walking on air and plays to the softer and more feminine side of Vil

Rook

- FINGERTIP by GFriend || Everything about this song is exciting. It’s suspenseful and alluring. If this song was a person, I could clear as day see it winking, whispering “chase me.” And that is exactly Rook’s brand of teasing and games. He’s a hunter but he’s got a charming aura to him still. This song wraps both of those things into it. The dance break is Rook’s darker senses personified. Umji’s lil “OW!” is he’s cute lil remarks in french, throwing you off now and then. But by the end of the song, you’re used to them and adore them

- Crossroads by GFriend || This song feels like a long lost friend that visits you in dreams. You can practically reach out to them but just as you do, you wake up. But you’re determined. That alone reminds me of Epel’s character as a whole. He doesn’t let his cute appearance push aside his wants and needs to be this tough guy. He, like Yuju’s strong vocals at the last chorus, presses on, determined each time he gets knocked down

- Deja Vu by Dreamcatcher || Maybe I’m biased cause I’ve covered this but this song is breathtaking. The melody speaks of a long road and the fight to keep on which I feel rings true for Lilia. We don’t know his true age but it’s clear he’s been around for quite a wild and the pain he’s probably gone through is unspeakable. He has stories galore and so much experience in life. I feel this song encapsulates a lot of what can only be speculated about him

Silver

- Crème Brûlée by GFriend || the soft, sweet song is addictive and cutesy. I feel Silver gets written off or ignored often, similarly to this song on the album. Sure he may not be god or a bad bad bitch, but he has his own warmth to him. Like this song, Silver makes me wanna curl up under a tree on an August evening and just take in life, making sure to breathe for once, releasing unnecessary tension and stress.

Sebek

- Black Dress by CLC || Sebek is very interesting to me and when he blushes, my whole heart stops for a second. It’s similar to how when they build up to the chorus‘s first Black Dress and the music stops for like a split second. Sebek isn’t my favorite but isn’t my least favorite. I like him more than some though, I’d say. I’d say the same goes for this song. I love CLC, this isn’t my top song of theirs but I still like it a lot. There’s something uniform about the beat that resounds with Sebek as getting shit done in mind also. Sometimes a song just makes you think of a character and you can’t perfectly explain it

- Pretty Savage by BLACKPINK || Yes i know t’s only recently come out as i post this, but this bad boy on replay. The beat isn’t crazy upbeat but it’s interesting. Malleus intidimates me in general cause of his aura, and while I love this song a lot rn, it was very intimidating at first. It still has some “don’t come near me” energy. The slower bridge bit calls to his stoic expression, melodic and pretty

Cater

- ICY by ITZY || I’ll be honest both Cater as well as this song were things I thought at first were just meh, okay. But as time went on both grew on me. Now that’s not the only reason though I associate this with him. The, no pun intended, ice shattering sound of the song gives me friendly popular girl that seems to be buds with 80% of the school. This is the very vibe Cater always gives me. He wants to just have a good, happy life. Also the song is a “so what? I’m hot. Get over it.” vibe like Cater

- Drama by TOMORROW X TOGETHER || Ace reminds me the guy you fall in love with in high school and you no it’s not going to last but you let yourself get taken away with. Drama feels like a soundtrack of every fun adventure Ace goes on, no matter the trouble that he may get on. It’s fun beat just brings me back to skipping school, running to my car and trying to sneak away without getting caught. The thought of Ace at my side, would shoot my adrenaline through the roof just like the high note of the song

- God’s Menu by Stray Kids || Deuce is just ready to go swinging and that’s exactly what this song is. Elbows up and out, head down, swinging without a clue. The intensity and fire of it speaks to that fire in him. Meanwhile the prechoruses are soft and pleasant almost like it’s not the same song, alluding to that cute lil smile he has got

Trey

- REALLY REALLY by WINNER || Similarly to Ace, this song reminds me of a guy you fall for, but in college rather than high school. Everything about the song and Trey just feels right. The choruses hold your hand and fits perfectly in yours. They know what to say to make everything okay. It may not last, but you sure hope it does and will love them like it will. And while Trey isn’t my number one boy, those are the exact feelings I have about him too. Finally, the rap part reminds me of Trey’s more sadistic side, it bites and you may not think it fits entirely but the more familiar you get with them, the more both fit and you don’t mind it entirely

- Wonderland by ATEEZ || The demanding nature of the song makes me think of Riddle immediately. It’s intense and doesn’t mess around; it wants what it wants. Riddle is a rule based person and this song is rather militaristic aesthetically. The bridge though, is so regal and breathtaking. It could stop time. Riddle, despite the kind of guy he is, is the same way. The power he holds is impressive and admirable. This description may seem kinda like I’m shitting on him and see him solely as a rule boy, but like this song, I have made respect for him and wouldn’t want to cross him

- Love Battery by Hong Jin Young but performed by LOONA on Immortal Songs || This arrangement of the song has a certain magic to it that I melt in. At the very beginning as the build up singing ‘dangsineun’ i feel like I’m being submerged in a wave, reaching to shake Azul’s hand, signing a contract. The choruses remind me of his smile, how distant but inviting it is. Daring me to fall for him. The dance break bridge reminds me of the intense eyes behind those glasses

Jade

- Love Shot by EXO || This song and Jade are both things I am fearful of but greatly intrigued by. They share a scary beat and energy that says I fear you more when you’re smiling. Please stop slowly walking towards me, you’re scaring me. But at the very same time, the choruses keep me around like how pretty I find this twin. The combo of put together, intellectual friend but could kill easily and without remorse sends shivers down my spine if I think about it for too long. The chorus of this song make me shake my shoulders that suppress a shiver each time

- WEE WOO by Pristin || I love both Floyd and WEE WOO. The song is the feeling you get going 85 down the highway. Both song and Floyd, get me excited. They feel like the weekend. That feeling of coming home Friday during high school, tossing your bookbag down, and getting ready to hang out with your best friend. It’s a relieving and exciting feeling. It’s a peppy beat that bites during the harmonies a bit. Just like Floyd. Peppy, fun, but ain’t afraid to take a lil nibble

NCT 127 - Ideal Type

These were suppose to be ideal type looks but honestly it’s just kinda outfits that match the way they dress. ALSO I did go in a “typically female” route, but if anyone wants a more gender neutral look or anything else let me know and I’m more than happy to do so! I also kept it pretty dressy because it’s hard for me to make outfits that are super casual, I always dress up so thats how I make my outfits too lol.

Anyway here’s the explanation

Taeyong: Pretty straight forward, boy has a funky style so I see him with someone who dresses similar, just maybe a little more of a clean cut version? Someone who isn’t afraid to express themselves trough what they wear. They probably switch their style up a lot tho, trying out different things depending on how they feel that day, but always looking cool. I also feel like Taeyong would like doing couple outfit sort of things where they’d style the same t-shirt in different ways or like colour coordinate.

Taeil: Originally I saw Taeil with someone who dresses pretty feminine but then I began to think he’d like a bit of an edge as well. Not overly edgy but enough to suggest something other than flowers and butterflies and walks in the garden. So I went somewhere in the middle and came up with something almost classic with bit of maturity to it. I think being a bit on the darker side would be perfect for Taeil, but keeping it clean and sticking to feminine shapes and styles.

Johnny: This one is my fave omg. SO as we know Johnny can dress himself WELL, so I think he’d be attracted to someone who did the same, still putting their own unique twist on it. I think he’d love a good mix between feminine and edgy, playing with patterns and textures, but still keeping it chic looking. This outfit screams confident and independent to me which I think would 100% draw Johnny in. He wants someone who isn’t afraid to take risks and express themselves through what they wear. Honestly the kind of person who can wear anything and still look fantastic.

Yuta: So Yuta’s is honestly just what he wears but in a dress version, but I think he’d like that? Similar to Taeyong, Yuta has an interesting style so I think someone who dresses similarly would suit him. I think he would like maybe slightly more toned down outfits compared to Taeyong tho? Street style but more relaxed, in a “I just through this on” kind of way. I feel like beyond clothes he would like someone who cut or dyed their in cool ways, adding to the overall style. They would be the person that everyone looks at and is like “wow I wish I could be as cool as them”

Doyoung: Doyoung dresses nicely, but relatively casual, like I picture him with a plain shirt/sweater and a jean jacket or a striped button up. For his ideal type I think he would like if if they complimented that style well but was maybe a tiny bit more fashion forward? I thought something classic but in a slightly modern way would be perfect. Something that never really goes out of style. I think he would find a mixture of feminine and masculine silhouettes attractive. Overall I think Doyoung would find it cool if they experimented with their style sometimes, trying different looks. He’d probably find it kinda hot if they asked for his opinion on something, he was like meh, but they wore it anyway lol.

Jaehyun: I feel like this one is pretty straight forward lol. Jaehyun is similar to Doyong in the fact that he is relatively casual, but I think Jaehyun can dress a bit more edgy sometimes. I think he would find a chic and slightly edgy look HOT. Like it gives off the vibes of someone who was maybe a bit of a trouble maker in the past but has since matured into a stylish city dweller. Ya feel? Someone who is effortlessly cool and effortlessly sexy, probably turning lots of heads but never really noticing. They probably run a sustainable fashion blog and everyone wonders how in hell they can look SO GOOD all the time but only shop sustainably lol.

Jungwoo: A cutie! We all know Jungwoo would date a cutie just like himself so I went the most traditionally feminine for his. I think someone pulled together and very sweet and innocent looking would really catch Jungwoo’s eye. I think they’d be stylish but in a more subtle way, probably carefully choosing their outfit before they go to bed every night. They probably have pretty hair and smell like flowers, iron the clothes everyday and are punctual. I imagine them blushing so hard when they see Jungwoo and him doing the same. Like they both have massive crushes on each other and everyone know but them.

Mark Lee: Okay so I love this outfit but idk if it suits Mark?? I was having kind of a hard time deciding whether Mark would like a more feminine look or not, so what I came up with was feminine in colours and accessorise but a bit cool with the leather jacket and jeans. I feel like Mark would like the playfulness of an outfit like this, which I think he would look for in an S/o. Whoever is wearing this outfit seems like they care about their appearance but also wants to be able to run around and still be comfortable, not caring if they ruin their clothes? Like she could meet his parents, but then go mud wrestling if needed. Idk I just see Mark getting kinda blushy around someone who dresses like his awww.

Haechan: Yo Haechan’s look is bomb. I honestly see Haechan liking someone a bit sexy and effortlessly chic. Similar to Jaehyun, I think he wants someone who he finds stunning but in an effortless kinda way. They probably could shop in thrift stores and still look like a million bucks? But, like Mark, I think he’d like it if their look didn’t compromise their ability to do anything, so keeping it casual but cool is key. I feel like they’d also have that dynamic where they tease each other for what they’re wearing, but always look confident and stunning together.

I’ll do Winwin when I do this for WayV!

‘Boys’ - Charli XCX

My initial thoughts on the music video ‘Boys’ (Charli XCX, 2017) were that it was quirky, playful, and aptly centred on individuals of the male gender. However, upon further analysis, this video is more than just multiple scenes of men to music; hence why I selected this particular video.

IDENTITY

Identity reflects the multiple associations and dissociations of an individual with factors such as ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion, and socioeconomic class (Georgiou, 2017). An individual establishes their own identity position by associating or dissociating themselves with these factors. An identity position that is represented in this music video is gender. One definition of gender is that gender refers to the socially constructed characteristics of women and men, such as roles, norms and relationships of and between groups of women and men (World Health Organisation, n.d). This video features multiple scenes of male-gendered individuals partaking in activities such as washing a car, being in a paddling pool, and eating pancakes, as pictured below (Charli XCX, 2017).

In my opinion, it was odd to see men partaking in these seemingly-feminine activities. I then realised that the point of this was to portray the idea that in the media most of society perceives it to be ‘weird’ to see the male gender performing feminine activities like these, but if someone of the female gender were to do the same activities, it would be deemed as routine or even ‘sexy’. For example, washing a car is historically sexualised when performed by a female, such as in Jessica Simpsons ‘These Boots Are Made For Walkin’ music video, as pictured below (Simpson, 2009).

Overall, I think that the video sends across the message that gender identity and what is labelled as masculine and feminine in the media is defined by social constructs and norms of gender, and this video challenges those norms by having the male gender perform activities that are typically associated with and sexualised by the female gender.

AUDIENCE

I think that the intended audience for this video are young adults of today. I think these young adults have grown up in a time where the traditional concept of gender has been challenged and social constructs regarding gendered characteristics, such as masculinity and femininity, are less strict and therefore less relevant. This video playfully encourages young adult individuals to simply be themselves and not worry about conforming to norms by enforcing the idea that these social constructs are simply constructs.

STEREOTYPES

A stereotype is a widely-recognized generalised character type of an individual or thing that is identified by the presence of key characteristics (Kroon, 2014). A potential stereotype that could be associated with the identity message in this video is the typical masculine stereotype. Classical stereotypes of both the male and female gender conform men and women to ideal societal standards of masculinity and femininity, rather than identifying them as individuals (Mosse, 1998). In this video, there is a large interference with the typical stereotype of the male gender. The various men in the video are shown partaking in activities that would be considered typically feminine rather than masculine, giving the effect of switching stereotypes. For example, the scene, as pictured below, (Charli XCX, 2017) with the man lying in rose petals could be associated with a female stereotype due to flowers being associated with femininity, playing with the ideal male stereotype.

This results in audience members, such as myself, to view this feature of the video as odd as it’s atypical to what we are used to seeing in the media as it defies stereotypical male gender norms. This aligns with the portrayed identity message regarding gender, reinforcing that the portrayal of men and women in the media is determined by social constructs.

CURRENT AND FUTURE CONTEXTS OF SOCIETY

This video was produced and released in 2017, however I still think that it is relevant to current contexts of society. It effectively communicates to both international and New Zealand audiences how societal norms worldwide regarding gender have changed in a playful style that helps individuals to relate to the content of the video. I think it will still be relevant in the future as gender is a very current and political topic in today’s society that is constantly being redefined, and this video identifies how gender norms and social constructs are changing.

Charli XCX - Boys

"In men's fashion, there's often one body type that is considered good looking for men, which is the buff dude who works out or whatever. It was interesting for me to see how my fans were really happy that all different kinds of guys were represented - like really slender guys, guys who aren't that classic body shape, guys who were a little bit bigger." – Charli XCX

The music video ‘Boys’ features sixty different men placed into a female aesthetic. The featured actors include models, rappers, actors, social media influences, singers, dancers of various ethnicities including European, African American, Latino and Korean. Charli XCX (co-director) Breaks down gender roles and male stereotypes historically placed in media. Her main inspiration is creating a gender swap. In an interview, she states, "the video—it's about making boys the 'sexy' part of a pop video for once, instead of the girls." (The New Zealand Herald, 2017)

‘Boys’ was released in 2017 on YouTube. As of now, it has more than a hundred million views and over a million likes. The comments make it easy to spot that most of the audience for the music video are fans of the featured actors.

Charli XCX - Boys [Official Video]

Charli XCX's demographic includes teen and young adults and thus are the target audience. The thumbnail of the music video is for sure, grabbing the attention of heterosexual females and homosexual men. The video content and concept are aimed more towards her male audience and helping them define their masculinity. "I got a lot of responses from male fans saying that they were really happy and thankful that the video was so diverse in terms of body types for men," she says (The New Zealand Heard, 2017). A fan of the name Harry Adams made his version on the video for an LGBTQ+ twist.

The question is why so many boys doing so many different things but surrounded by a feminine aesthetic?

Through history, men and woman had roles to play in media. The men being the robust and dominant player and the woman being the prize usually objectified to fit a male gaze. "Typically, females are shown dancing provocatively in scant and/or revealing clothing as they try to gain men's attention (Texier, 1990).” (Julia T. Wood, n.d). This music switches the male gaze to a female gaze in a playful way.

Judith Butler's coins the concept of 'gender fluidity,' the simple idea of blending the lines of gender stereotypes. Her ideology is that humans are not born with gender but are influenced to become said gender. It is no secret that the media takes a large part in influencing. Charli XCX's music video directing explores Butler's concept. ‘Boys’ break down the historical and traditional placed on gender. The video shows the men in a feminine light. With the actors playing with puppies, having pillow fights, washing cars, among other things (activities associated with female characters), is creating gender fluidity and the breaking stereotypes. The colour scheme, customs and other elements show the fluidity of gender in the video.

What ‘Boys’ also does well is redefined male stereotypes to improve the representation of men in the media. Traditionally men are characterized as emotionally controlled with a fit body. ‘Boys’ destroy the stereotype by featuring men from different races with different body types and styles.

The music video is a hint towards the change in societies view of men. Men are now trying to find who they are, breaking down the previous gender mould created of earlier centuries. A HuffPost article claims that Gen Z "has broken down what the media previously defined as a man." ( Jack Myers, 2017). Modern society is moving closer to the idea that attractiveness does not mean fitting into a gender box. Being different is being beautiful. No matter what social status, job, race, a man has, they are still 'a man.'

The critical point that the video gets across is that man can, do whatever they want, look however they wish AND BE WHOMEVER THEY WANT. The representation of men in ‘Boys’ breaks the chain of male representation in pop culture and starting a new wave of gender representation.

Blurring the lines of gender is one step closer to equality among gender. People are having more understanding of the equality of all gender.

Reviews 256: I Blagueur

After visiting the island of Sardegna and the cosmic prog of Gruppo 2001’s Chi Sei?, Dualismo Sound now sets its sights on Torino with a reissue of I Blagueur’s Balla? No!… / Ti D’ Bale? As usual, there’s a fascinating story underlying the music, this time centered on Gualtiero Gatto, a successful producer operating out of his own G7 Studios, where he produced disco and pop projects for G7 Music Group as well as Drums Edizioni Musicali (for a particularly wild example, see Drums Music Shows’ recently reissued Sexy Banana single). Also working in Torino was Valerio Liboni, another highly regarded producer who had ascended to the very heights of Italian pop stardom in the early 70s with the single “Pop Corn” as part of La Strana Società. One day in 1983, Liboni approached Gatto with a challenge: “let’s make a record with a rap! one in Italian and one in Piemontese dialect,” an idea no doubt inspired by the recent success of Falco’s “Der Kommissar” and Pino D’Angiô’s anthemic “Ma Quale Idea” from three years prior.

But whereas those tracks pulled from synthpop and romantic disco, respectively, Gatto and Liboni as I Blagueur were more interested in loved up and hard-hitting boogie, letting their cool and expressive raps flow over scuzzy funk basslines, smashed robo-disco beats, heatwave chord blasts, and tropical marimbas while joyous angel choirs call out through the night. And as with Dualismo Sound’s Gruppo 2001 reissue, Early Sounds man Pellegrino appears and continues his trend of tastefully reworking Italo classics, this time smashing together “Balla? No!” and “Ti D’ Bale” into an extended epic while adding in his own tasteful percussive touches. For good measure, Pellegrino also includes an instrumental dub, where the mutant boogie bass synths and muscular disco drums stoke maximum dancefloor energy beneath rapid fire claps and solar chord blasts. And it’s remarkable how modern the track sounds freed from the tongue-in-cheek vocals…a feverish and tropically tinged future funk paradise not too far off from that irresistible West Hill Studio sound.

I Blagueur - Balla? No!… / Ti ‘D Bale? (Dualismo Sound, 2019) “Balla? No!…” is the standard Italian version, starting on sweltering chord stabs and a stomping, almost industrially-tinged disco beat, with huge snare blasts, gated reverb decay, and hi-hats adding a freaky shuffle. The sexual boogie basslines are fat, dirty, and mean as hell as they storm and slide beneath rocketing dub claps and wavering funk chords. A gristly and monotone voice speaks of nighttime adventures at Le Roi Club, evoking dark suited and sunglassed individuals leaning against dimly lit walls while cooly smoking cigarettes…wholly unbothered by the humid mediterranean heat. As we sweep into the chorus, the vibe turns ecstatic and triumphant, with “Balla / lei balla / balla no!” rapped apathetically and radiant diva choirs chanting “no no no” in response. Brass synths sweep through dreamy new wave ascents while synthesized marimbas weave tropical fusion threads above crushing tom fills. And sometimes we push even further into joyous dancefloor fantasy, as the angelic divas take over and run through spellbinding disco enchantments, before it all breaks down into pure club madness, with burning basslines snaking through delirium patterns while flamboyant drum fills are surrounded by echo-clap madness.

“Ti D’ Bale?” features the exact same instrumental arrangement as “Balla? No!...”, differing only in the vocal presentation. The raps here are more expressive and zany, with wild laughter and a playful energy suffusing the Piemontese poetics. I speak very little Italian and certainly not the Piemonte dialect, but it appears that the lyrics here are remixed and rearranged, though John Travolta still receives a name check. Also in this version, the chorus features a new refrain, with enigmatically rapped lyrics of “Bale / Ti ‘d bale? / Bala nen!” followed by magnificent soul divas singing “Balu nen!”…creating a subtle but infectious call and response that isn’t as pronounced in the “Balla? No!…” version. And during the heavenly climaxes of euphoric angel radiance, the feminine voices still swell together and soar towards the sky, now singing “mi balu nen e sun an po’ straca / no no no no / t’an piase nen e batu la fiaca.“

The fact that “Balla? No!..” and “Ti D’ Balla” share the same instrumental template allows Pellegrino a large amount of freedom in his “Balla (Interregional Mix),” which starts with an extended dance floor introduction. When the raps flow in, Pellegrino cuts hypnotically between the standard and Piemontese dialects while leaving plenty of space for the heatwave synth chords and the boogie funk rhythms. During the chorus, he also alternates deliriously between both versions and creates new pop hooks in the process, all while lettings the soaring diva vocals fly through the sky. Much of the focus is given over the instrumental passages of wavering synth heat, tropical idiophonics, and dub clap fireworks (which seem to contain additional layers, no doubt added by Pellegrino). Vocal scats and madcap laughs are used to incredible effect as the lyrical flow is sometimes reduced to abstracted Italo vocalisms and the original tracks’ slithering bassline and crushing drum passages are repeated several times, creating anthemic moments of hands-in-the-air euphoria. Best of all, Pellegrino makes the subtle yet vital addition of closed disco hi-hats…a sort of metronomic pulse adding that much more sexual club energy to the freaky boogie stomp.

Closing out the package is Pellegrino’s instrumental dub, which will likely get the most rinsing from modern DJs due to its uncanny alignment with the energetic future funk, cosmic boogie, and Italo magic coming out of Napoli, especially the work of Mystic Jungle. Pellegrino’s touch is surgical yet romantic as he focuses in on the instrumental passages, with mediterranean mallet cascades and sweaty dancefloor hypnotics allowed to shine in full. It’s as if, now devoid of Gualtiero Gatto’s and Valerio Liboni’s mocking raps, the song is allowed to blossom into a freaky and physical disco funk storm, one whose jacking boogie bass synths, cerebral clap patterns, and sci-fi drum machines rival the heaviest and most far-out of Dualismo Sounds’ many scorching groovers.

Paco Rabbane 1 Million EDT For Men

Paco Rabanne 1 Million is one of the best fragrance found in stores today. It is a very sensual and sexy yet sophisticated scent.

1 Million EDT for men first arrived in August 2008 but is definitely still relevant today in 2020. It has become an absolute classic. It is still as good and as fun to wear as the day it came out.

The opening of the fragrance is warm and sweet. Cinnamon and spicy cosiness mixed with grapefruit and red orange. After a couple of hours it turns to be more leathery and flirty. After that it gets even more playful - you can smell more mature notes like wood, amber and every perfume lovers favourite patchouli. Minty and rose notes in the EDT help to keep it fresh and seducing. All of those ingredients make this a luxurious long lasting compliment receiver. Without doubt.

Although 1 Million is sweet, it doesn’t come across as feminine. Spicy sweet cinnamon in the beginning is later brought down by wood and amber accords and makes it a well balanced scent for modern men.

Wear this in the office or with a suit to kick up the mood. Or wear it to a nightclub. A definite attention grabber with it’s freshness and warmth - would say it’s almost edible. If you are looking for something very clean and citrusy look elsewhere. 1 Million is a dark and spicy exotic beast.

Top notes: grapefruit, mint and red orange.

Middle notes: rose, cinnamon and spicy notes.

Base notes: leather, wood, amber and patchouli.

Paco Rabanne’s 1 Million is also known for its amazing longevity. A few sparys last for hours. People wearing this say it stays on for over 10 hours! That is a very long lasting EDT!

It has a powerful sillage as well. You can easily smell this from 4-6 feet. Many fans of perfume love this fragrance just for its outstanding sillage. My personal rating for this fragrance is 8/10. Would I buy this for my younger brother? Yes. Would I notice this and enjoy this on a night out? Definitely yes. Would I call this the all time best men’s fragrance on the planet? No. But overall a really good eau de toilette for most occasions and seasons.

Pine-length Bob

This look is a classic, and I feel like it's going to go out of style. It is good if you still want length around your face, but still have some fullness, without being too short.

Be ready to style it everyday. This is not a wash-and-go deal. A good blowjob will do wonders with this style, depending on your texture.

Wavy and short

I think my client describes this look best as cool-mom Bob. We wanted something that, when styled and curled, makes it fun and cheeky, but even if it's just blown out, it's slim and still has a great shape.

Whether that's for straightening frizzy hair or inflating the volume depends on each customer, but no matter what, I feel every customer needs something with thermal protection.

I always talk to my clients about how to use products and then how to style because I want them to feel comfortable and confident and to re-create their look at home.

This is a choppy, angled short bob with a Peekaboo shaved undercut, though it is not visible in the picture. I love its versatility: elegant but edgy and modern. She rocks her natural color, embracing her amazing gray hair that blends so well with the natural smoky blonde.

I would ask if she is an active person or not and how long she would have to get to make the haircut better for her lifestyle. If she prefers to put her hair in a ponytail, we may need to rethink the length and keep it a little longer. If not, we can go even shorter.

Short hair does not need much care besides using the right products. In essence, I would recommend using a good product before drying – like a mousse or a texturizing lotion – and a styling wax / paste to give that extra texture and fun. I think, "Less is more." It takes a few weeks to get used to short hair, but trust me when I say it's addictive.

Blonde Balayage

This is a crisp classic form, but with the subtle disheveled movement and golden tones – I would describe this look as a subtle softness. What I love about this look is that the overall shape is visually appealing. The back is short and stacked while maintaining the length around the face for a soft, feminine, versatile look. I added golden highlights to their warm caramel base to create beautiful depth and dimension for a stunning style.

This look is the perfect balance of sexy and chic for me. This cut is one of my absolute favorite haircuts for women with thin hair. My favorite part of this cut is how versatile he is. You can wear it elegant and sexy or add some soft waves for a playful, soft look.

If my client considers this haircut, I ask these questions. What is your everyday life? How much time do you want to spend on your hair every day? Which styling products and tools do you have at home?

This cut is super easy to style, but I always tell my customer that they need to blow dry their hair with a round brush to achieve the sleek look as pictured here, then finish with a straightener to smooth the sides to give it the sharp appearance.

The perfect face shape for this cut is round, as it will lengthen your face, but I love this cut on most face shapes, as you can adjust how long and angled the face will be to fit any face shape.

This cut is suitable for all ages. If you're worried about the face shape, do not do it. If you feel like you have a round face, add more volume, longer front length and longer bangs. This cut could be honestly personalized on every face shape.

I love this layered and bent Bob, because he is very slim and versatile. This is one of my favorite cuts. It has the edge that you can wear it smoothly to work, but still give it some beach waves and have some fun.

The color is very dimensional, although it gives the appearance of a neutral brown base, unless you are in natural light. There is a mix of four shades of brown from mocha to chestnut brown. Then we have their crown and glory section, as I call it, where it is heavily highlighted with super fine pieces as well as balayaged everywhere to still give the soft look of their natural base color as it starts to grow. So you have the best of both worlds.

Do you know that you can have fun with it! It requires some work, so be prepared to style it. Whether it's blowing out a round brush, ironing flat or using a wand, use products that help with styling, protect from heat and provide a little grip.

ON CLASSIC BURLESQUE + SOFT BLACK FEMMES

This is going to be short and sweet because I’ve got to prepare for a busy night! I’ll be performing two classic bump-and-grind acts at Dangerously Delicious Pies tonight with Les Folies Derriere, one of my absolute favorite burlesque production companies here in Washington, D.C., ran by Callie Pigeon. I put a pic of Miss Topsy up there because she is my main classic burlesque inspiration, aesthetically!

I love doing Les Folies Derriere shows because they showcase classic styles of burlesque and vaudeville entertainment -- there’s comedy, a bit of sideshow, bump-n-grind, and generally a very retro, vintage feel. I know classic burlesque gets a bad rap - I’ve even heard people describe it as “boring,” “offensive,” “outdated,” and more. But hear me out here!

As a little black girl in Texas, I was the darkest person in my neighborhood, at my church, and at my school. I was always told I was “pretty to be so dark-skinned,” something many people with my skin complexion grow up hearing. But even though folks apparently thought I was cute, I still noticed that I was treated differently than white and lighter-skinned girls. I never held any animosity towards anyone over this (I’m a pretty unflappable, annoyingly-positive person sometimes), and literally just decided that it would be best to never focus on my looks or skin because this was not one of my “good” qualities. Whatever that means.

So I buried my head in books, and I made friends with other quiet nerds, and I tried my best to blend into the background. But my mom is a crazy Southern pageant mom who refused to let me be a wallflower - she registered me for pageants and runway shows and talent shows and dance classes and showcases. She took me shopping, introduced me to nice fabrics, got my make-up professionally done, took me to the nail shop. She never let me forget that I’m a hardcore mf femme, and she STILL doesn’t. I am incredibly grateful to my mother for this, and she still helps me find my femme even to this day.

I say all this because even though I was pretty much ignored and tossed aside by mainstream society, I was celebrated in my own house. My mom found a way for my femininity to be celebrated within my community. So while I was quiet and shy outside, I would go home and play in her furs and stilettos. I had an entire Bettie Page and Marilyn Monroe bookshelf, and I would study their poses, their hands and feet, their facial expressions.

As I grew up, it was clear that based on first impressions, the world expected me to be hard. Angry. Full of rage. I remember talking to a random white man and after hearing my voice for the first time, he exclaimed, “Wow, you’re so eloquent with such a soft voice!” As if he expected me to bark like a dog or something? Many people expect or desire black women to be hard and tough, and are genuinely taken aback when we display softness.

I say all this to say that classic burlesque is a way for me, as the darkest woman many of you have ever seen in person, to display my softness and femininity unchallenged. It’s a way for me to be myself in a way that I never saw any black woman showcased in the past - put up there on a twirling pedestal like Bettie Page or Marilyn Monroe. Dripping in expensiveness or sexiness or naughtiness or playfulness, and allowing themselves to just be soft.

That’s what classic burlesque means to me, and it’s incredibly important for me to view myself in that way.

Wedding Style used to be all concerning the bride. Poor grooms were stuck in black dinner suits with no practical way to express their personality. Sartorially talking, their job was to coordinate. It looks marvellous against white but also works well with cream and blue — ideal if your partner wants to wear something less-than-common as well.

Blue Suits: Black can be unforgivingly hard, and grey is for the office, leaving well-dressed grooms standing for suits in a wide array of blues in recent seasons. As with burgundy, you can find a shade of blue to suit most skin tones and suit any season. Navy or royal blue looks wonderful in autumn and winter, while washed tones work well in brighter spring and summer sunlight. These earthly tones normally evoke a sense of being in the comfort of your own home which makes it very popular and an upcoming trend.

Coloured stones: Not only black diamonds but more coloured gemstones are in or men. They are for men who want something distinct from the others and out of the box. Emeralds, Rubies and Sapphires are the famous gemstones to use in these rings. They also normally have a plain metal band as to not clash with the gemstones. But you can always combine and match to get your desired results.

Coloured Wedding Dresses: It isn’t only the guys who are including colour! 2020 brides who want to marry in something other than white have more selection than ever. Not only are designers including black and colour in their bridal sets, but women are getting an individual with their choices by selecting bespoke wedding dresses in any shade they desire. There is no right or wrong when it comes to wedding dress shades — a bold turquoise or orange looks excellent for a beach destination wedding, while rich ruby will make a Christmas bride completely unforgettable.

No, seriously dudes. Goddess worship is the new macho

Perhaps you’ve never even considered the concept beyond watching some Nat Geo program on ancient and exotic pagan cultures. It’s certainly not relevant to our modern secular scientific Western worldview, right? Superstitious, ignorant, primitive peoples had to create imaginary stories of divine beings that govern the mysteries of the cosmos and life on earth. We’ve explained all of that nonsense away, haven’t we? No research scientist has ever produced a divine being in the laboratory, so surely they don’t exist…or if they do exist, it’s only the realm of the believer’s imagination. In other words, goddesses and all other supernatural entities are purely matters of subjective faith. They’re not phenomenological factual, they’re just the stuff of archaic mythological fantasy, right?

I beg to differ. I’ll spare you my rapturous testimony of deliverance by the fierce, yet loving, hands of the Hindu Goddess Kali. I’ll just offer the following leading statement. During altered states of consciousness the transpersonal perception of divine feminine entities can be reliably reproduced in ceremonial settings. Many such ceremonies are now being studied with modern laboratory research methods and technologies. The research is yielding surprising and compelling data. A sober inquiry into the science of goddess invocation during trance states is the subject of my forthcoming book. That’s right, if you were born in a different time or place, you may be permitted if not obliged to mix the holy with the erotic. Far from being sinful, sacred sexuality has been the core practice of human ancestry. The condemnation of Eros is a relatively recent aberration. Regardless of where our bloodlines are rooted geographically, the universal human legacy is one of proud celebration of our once much less private parts. We venerated the intelligent designers of human anatomy for gifting us with so much pleasure potential.

What does this mean for you today? Well, for one, you can feel better about yourself for having that naughty mermaid fetish. More generally, you can study the various goddesses of sexuality and fertility and see if any resonate with you. If they don’t resonate, you can make up your own and put a statue of her on your altar. You can use your goddess given imagination to invoke her in fantasies, thereby giving your erotic mind some exercise and perhaps a break from a mind numbing, degenerative, and debilitating porn habit.

Goddess Worshipers are Sexy People are turned on by men who bow down to a/the Goddess. Why? The more you worship goddesses the more you develop your feminine aspect. Grace, compassion, empathy, care, concern, sensitivity, all flow from the divine feminine energetic reservoir. It’s your birth right to tap into it and embody it. No you won’t be emasculated and thought to be weak, soft, or wimpy. Some of the bravest warriors have invoked the power of goddesses on the battlefield, vying to earn their blessings for victory against the enemy. I’m a peaceful warrior and don’t glamorize combat, I’m simply stating that you can still be an alpha amongst males and be submissive to females. You could be elevated to top ranking hunk status by playing the role of a man who’s not meek, but rather is big, strong, and capable, yet in total service to the divine and earthly feminine. When you fall in and salute the alpha females, you’ll have a chance to earn access to the most elite and exclusive of erotic rituals. Doesn’t that sound more exciting than the typical “wham, bam, thank you mam” experience? You don’t need a lot of money or status, and muscles are a bonus but not a must. The prerequisite is only a refinement of character and a forging of soul in the practice of goddess worship.

Like it or Not, You’re Part Goddess As stated above, the so-called feminine aspect is a sort of energetic polarity. Think Yin and Yang, no one is ever completely one or the other. We all contain and express a dynamic ratio. In my analysis, prisons, militaries, and animal experimentation laboratories represent some of the extreme distillations of toxic masculine energy. I think we’ve seen enough of the ill effects of having choked out the feminine aspect over the last 5,000 years of globally virulent patriarchal warrior cults. Just as millions have suppressed the divine feminine over millennia, as an inheritor of the patriarchal cultural legacy, you too have been meticulously trained to deny, ignore, and suppress your inner goddess.

Here’s a little experiment to help own your goddesshood. Find your local psychedelic trance dance community and try holding on to your tough guy act while in the storm of ecstatic bliss on the dance floor. I bet you a million dollars you’ll have a spiritual awakening and you’ll never talk, think, or even walk the same way again, ever. We like to call it being “shaktified.”

4. All the Women in your Life are Lowercase ‘G’ Goddesses. Once you start to recognize the human embodiment and expression of divine feminine energy, you will acknowledge and value that, despite being brutally trampled and violently denied political and economic power. The divine feminine flows through all females by default (of course the gender binary is beautifully evolving beyond the tightly controlled 1950s archetypes and the butch-femme continuum is ever expanding so please don’t misunderstand my statements to be stereotyping).

If you’re a guy, you most likely have to wake up and exercise your goddessness. It takes will, effort, and in some cases a lot of work. In some cases it flows freely, easily and naturally without much effort. You can learn from the women in your life, in whom the goddess is generally more fully expressed. Once upon a time in the history of “Western mythology” the divine masculine, i.e. God archetypes of the distant past, were blessed by equally important and powerful lovers, mothers, daughters, and sisters. Now it could be argued that the dominant mode of masculinity not only lacks its divine feminine counterpart, it lacks divinity itself. It’s appears as brutal violence, cold hearted calculating bottom line business, etc. The first step towards reclaiming our divine masculinity is to worship the divine femininity that’s still all around us.

5. You Eat the Flesh of the Earth Goddess You don’t have to “believe” in Gaia the Greek Earth Mother Goddess, or Pachamama the Incan version. All you have to do is take a breath, have a drink of water or a bite of food, and give thanks to your material existence as a product of the health of planetary ecology. I’m convinced that the human species is a child of earth as much as, if not more than, heaven.

When you grow an organic veggie garden, you can’t help but worship your strawberries, tomatoes, basil, garlic, etc. Some of the most divine experiences are culinary. Plus when you create an ecological garden, you’re playing god(ess) by creating habitat for innumerable visible and invisible life forms. You’re engaged in the interplay of co-creation. I guarantee you’ll never be depressed while nurturing your garden. Repatriation to Eden is a rewarding life path and it can start right outside your front or back door, or down the street at the community garden if you’re in an apartment. You can even grow sprouted grains, beans, and nuts in jars on the kitchen counter. There’s no excuse not to be engaged in the holy arts of sustainable home-scale horticulture. Leaving the safety and sustainability of our food supply in the invisible hands of the centralized industrial economy has literally made hell on earth in the form of deforestation, salinization, and desertification.

Though de-emphasized and obscured by modern readings of the classic sacred texts, earth stewardship is not just a virtue, in many cases it’s a commandment. Like I said, if you don’t want to consider yourself an Earth Mother Goddess Worshiper, I’m fine with that. How about this, just make an effort to be a part of re-greening the skin of the earth. Grow some if not all of your own food if you can, at the very least recycle. The point is, actions speak louder than prayers. The spiritual practice of ecological integrity is good for paying down your inherited karmic debt, and will get you in the express line through the gates of heaven if that’s your thing.

6. Without Goddesses, Male Gods Get Frustrated and Violent Early in the history of a religion which shall remained unnamed, there was a Mrs. God. For political reasons she was purged out of scriptural reference in a sort of ecclesiastical coup. It’s no wonder her blue-balled widower has gone on a 2000 year long kill crazy rampage. Gods need love too, not just your love, let them get their freak on, and there will be peace…

7. Goddesses Can Possess You, and Make You Do Good Things Crimes attributed to demonic possession are on the rise in the news. This is a curious fact since we’re supposed to have discredited all of that supernatural nonsense. I can assure you, I believe in and have experienced the realness of demons as much as I believe in and have experienced the realness of goddesses. Don’t take my word for it, stand by for my scientific white paper and go ahead and repeat the experimental design in your own lab and we’ll compare notes. 😉

Anyway, whether or not you believe that the devil made the bad guy do it, let’s take a step back and strip away the cultural baggage around the phenomenon known as possession. Let’s try to get a fresh perspective on it shall we? We’re all fond of computers, yes? Many of us have been, or know some one who has been, in some way “hacked”. If we borrow that analogy, let’s suppose that the software the human personality runs on can be hacked into so that the hardware can be put to use for malicious activities. What if in the Bible instead of demonic possession, they called it demonic identity theft? Just sayin…

Again don’t take my word for it, but just humor me for a minute and let’s suppose that demonic possession is only one form of possession. What if there is such a thing as angelic possession, or perhaps deity possession? If you know anyone in the new age scene, you’ve probably heard enough about mediumship, channeling, astral projection, etc. and gotten sick of the all-too often flaky, unsubstantiated and untested assertions. Don’t worry, I’m weary of such egotistical self-aggrandizement, and have no interest in messiahs that trademark their hodgepodge of spiritual healing modalities after pilfering the shamanic traditions of non-proprietary indigenous cultures.

All I’m asking is that you put this notion on “what if” status for now. Gee, wouldn’t it be nice if it wasn’t just evil that had the power to joy ride in human minds and bodies. What if more benevolent beings, with better manners and ethics, could be voluntarily called upon and granted partial access to help us in various aspects of our lives?

I dare you to wonder what the world would look and operate like, if more humans invited Goddesses into their minds, bodies, and lives to work miracles through voluntary possession. If you can’t imagine it, I can help you with that.

8. When Addressed Properly, Goddesses Answer Prayers I was a skeptic of all forms of prayer until a few years ago when I started to practice tantra, an ancient Indian spiritual technology that transmutes sexual energy into fuel for healing and enlightenment. Tantra is all about ritual procedure. A core theme is the practice of worshiping one’s intimate partner as a divine being. Another theme is the art of shouting prayers from high peaks of erotic ecstasy. I suppose it’s like climbing to a mountain top to increase the sonic range of your cries for help. Whatever the quantum mechanics involved, the proof is in the pudding. It works. Try it. Treat your lover like a goddess, and low and behold, as you become one with her, you’ll both ascend in a swirl of divine masculine and feminine energy, ultimately on course to be absorbed completely into a unitive field of undifferentiated bliss. Let’s call this the miracle zone, where your intentions for magical manifestation are most powerful, and where the quantum soup that congeals into solid dimensional realities is fluid and malleable. In my exploration of these practices, I’ve found that prayers are answered both by discrete higher dimensional divine feminine and masculine entities and in a sense by my own higher self.

Just play with this thought for a minute: what if every unit of pleasure you give to your beloved is exchanged for a unit of magical power to manifest your desires. Wouldn’t it be a good problem to have if that organic farm land you want to buy had a quantum price tag of 1,000 satisfactory orgasms? Here’s another thought, if orgasms can be thought of as tractor beams that pull in the realization of your magical manifestations, and we know that female orgasms are generally longer, more intense, and more powerful than male orgasms, wouldn’t it behoove us to be more devotional lovers? Serve your goddess and good stuff happens, I promise.
