The Manchester connection. Holocaust stories take on new meaning

Giving added thought to the Anne Frank Trusts conference in Manchester, it was remarkable to hear a first hand account from a Holocaust survivor, who settled in the city and rebuilt her life after WW2.

This connection drew me back to the story of Victor 'Young' Perez, the Tunisian Jewish boxer, who died during the Holocaust but was the World Flyweight Champion in the 1930's. Victor 'Young' Perez had also boxed in Manchester in 1932 and in 1933.

An evaluation of the Anne Frank Trust UK shows its education programme's make young people more positive towards various social groups. The Educating Against Prejudice report by the University of Kent presents data on nearly 3,000 school pupils.

Pupstruction to Wag Its Tail on Disney Junior and Disney+ in June 14 With Merchandise Plans and Music Album

Disney is getting ready to unleash a pack of new animated pooches on June 14 with Pupstruction an imaginative, music-filled animated series from Titmouse Inc.& Disney Junior Educational Resource Group the show is set to premiere WEDNESDAY, JUNE 14, with a simulcast on Disney Channel and Disney Junior (8:00 a.m. EDT). An initial batch of episodes will premiere the same day on on-demand platforms and Disney+.

Joining the previously announced voice cast in recurring and guest star roles for season one are Olga Merediz (Walt Disney Animation Studios “Encanto” Franchise) as Grandma Dee, Todrick Hall (“The Masked Singer”) as Harvey Hare, Gabriel Iglesias (Netflix Animation “I, Chihuahua”) as Felipe and Nate Torrence (Walt Disney Animation Studios “Zootopia” Franchise) as Chameleo.

“Pupstruction” centers on crew leader Phinny, an innovative young corgi who dreams up some of the biggest and wildest ideas to help his town of Petsburg. The other members of Pupstruction are Luna, a comically spontaneous sheepdog; Roxy, a can-do rottweiler; and Tank, a lovable, snack-obsessed mastiff. Although Phinny might be the smallest pup on the crew, he proves that you don’t need big paws to have big ideas. Together, the Pupstruction crew uses mud, sweat, drool and plenty of heart to build and create.

The series stars Yonas Kibreab (Pixar Animation Studios “Elio”) as Phinny, Carson Minniear (“Big City Greens” Franchise) as Tank, Scarlett Kate Ferguson (“I’m Dying Up Here”) as Roxy and newcomer Mica Zeltzer as Luna, as well as Yvette Nicole Brown (“Firebuds”) as Mayor Gilmore, Bobby Moynihan (”DuckTales”) as Bobby Boots, Grey DeLisle (“Scooby Doo Franchise”) as Maya, Kari Wahlgren (“The Ghost and Molly McGee”) as Scratch, Eric Bauza (“Muppet Babies 2018”) as characters Harry, Sniff and Lloyd, and Alessandra Perez (“T.O.T.S. MoviesOr... Red, White and Royal Blue

The first time I read about Red, White and Royal Blue, it was described as a soft porn book, like the TV shows Netflix usually makes, so I never really paid attention or wanted to read it. Then, Amazon Prime announced they would be adapting the book, and I got curious because reading is one thing, but seeing those two fine actors doing it, that's what I really wanted. So I watched some teasers, saw that it was going to be Rated R, and waited patiently (not much, as soon as the days were getting close) for August 11th.

What was then my surprise to see that there was nothing soft porn there? Maybe Amazon saw the potential of having a big LGBT+ movie and decided to make it more family-friendly? Who knows… I don't hate the idea, it's good to make it available for more audience, but I surelly kept thinking about what we lost. But that was the only thing that made me disappointed. The rest? Perfection. I didn't think I would enjoy the movie so much like I did. I didn't think it would make me smile all the way through like Heartstopper did days before. And it was fun to see what is usually a teenage theme — loving someone you can't have because they're in the closet — in a mature environment, especially involving politics and royalty.

In this romance story, we met two young politicians from two of the most famous, and controversial, countries in the world. Alex, from the all powerful and omnipresent United States, and Henry from the London weird and unnecessary for today's standards monarchy. The rest? Is history, and I bet they can make some.

The biggest reason the movie works so well is the casting. How sensational are the two lead actors? They're charming, and they work so well together, with their sexual tension and jokes. I already knew Nicholas Galitzine from the Handsome Devil movie (that I'm still not over the fact that it didn't end with a kiss), so I knew he would deliver, but Taylor Perez was a surprise for me. I never paid attention to him on the terrible The Kissing Booth trilogy, which is good. We didn't get soft porn, but we got an ass, and although it wasn't from Nicholas (what a shame), it was from Taylor, so all is forgiven. Another person who steals the movie is Sarah Shahi with her incredible role as the President's Assistant. Her presence is incredible and every single scene that she’s in is fascinating, charming and piercing. And I also liked Rachel Hilson's part, who I met in Love, Victor.

In all its perfection, and in its two hours of fair good pace and development, the only criticism I have for the movie is how things were resolved. Even though the focus was on the love of the two main characters, still, part of the tension was on how their love affair would have consequences, especially around the monarchy. Sadly, none of this was explored in the movie (I'm not sure if it's explored in the book as well, so if it's not, then it has the same flaw). It's impractical to think that people would march in front of Buckingham Palace to celebrate their love so easily, not when the idea of a Royal Family revolves around racist and abusive behaviors. I know it's a piece of fiction, and I know the political rules and games the movie portrays are far simpler than they are in reality, but still, the movie sets the tone of being placed in the world as we know it, so the way all is solved really makes the ending weaker.

Again, this is not that big of a problem, but I wonder if Amazon regrets not turning this into a limited series. Not only could those problems be solved, but they could have also extend the story a bit further and gain more exposure from the fandom. Even so, the highs are much higher than the lows. There are so many amazing scenes, like the falling of the cake, the New Year's party where they're the only ones standing for seconds, the museum dance, and the hug on the stairs when everything is falling apart. I felt like I was inside Taylor's song London Boy, and now I want a Royal Blue heart all to myself. God, how I love the English.

The Rebels” é um álbum, originalmente gravado em LP pelo famoso grupo brasileiro de rock vocal e instrumental com o mesmo nome, que iniciou a sua carreira em 1959. Gravou na extinta e pioneira discográfica de rock brasileira Young, onde ainda fez parte do grupo o depois famoso Prini Lorez. Do LP que aqui apresentamos, destacamos a versão bem-humorada de “I Want To Hold Your Hand” (O Bode e a Cabra). The Rebels, foi um grupo formado no Rio de Janeiro, um dos primeiros conjuntos de Rock surgidos no Brasil, no final da década de 50. O grupo teve uma curta duração e sofreu alterações à sua formação inicial. Gravaram o seu primeiro disco em 1959, um single que continha as canções “Bad Boy” e “I Go Ape“, através do selo Young. Quatro anos depois, em 1963, gravaram quatro LPs, através dos selos Phenton, Kartaz, Beverly e VS. Já em 1964, outro LP através do selo Caritas e por essa altura tiveram uma activa participação nos shows do “Club do Clan“, que era apresentado na Rádio Excelsior, pelo cantor Altemar Dutra. Em 1965, lançaram último LP intitulado “Twist, Gully and Surf“. A banda acompanhou também o cantor americano Dave "King" Gordon nas músicas "Crazy Hully Gully" e "Mr Hully Gully". Em 1967, o grupo também fez várias apresentações acompanhado pelo cantor Erasmo Carlos no Restaurante Tremendão, em São Paulo, de propriedade do próprio Erasmo, e participou no movimento da Jovem Guarda. Depois disso, o grupo separou-se.

Third Eye P.I. Origin/Introductions part 1

The Third Eye P.I. is a special private investigator agency dedicated to maintaining the balance between two very different worlds. The world of the normies(humans) and the world of the unseen(monsters, myths, legends, and anything else that goes bump in the shadows). The leader of this rag tag crew is Victor Vaz. At first glance he may seem like a normie, but in actuality, he is a master of the paranormal and occult. Since a very young age he had very different perspective of the world. The ability to the see the unseen, a trait that most humans do not have. Due to this perspective, he lead a very lonely life as he had to move constantly as it attracted alot of unwanted attention from both worlds. Much later after traveling the world and conquering his own shadows, he grew some roots with a goregeous tinker fairy named Amaris Greenwood. Amaris was a fairy rejected from her clan due to a being exposed to the "dark enegry". Luckily for her and Victor fate destined them to cross paths when they needed it the most. Together they created The Third Eye P.I. and settle down in Manitou Springs an area full of mysterious energy. As a front they created a little shop called "Tinks and Trinks" for Amaris art and inventions. This was to protect themselves from unwanted characters. Amaris also provides special gadgets and tech to help Victor with his cases. Together they have fought demons, vampires, mischievous gnomes, and many other unseen. They have also provided sanctuary to many unseen push out by the human world. Through out their adventures they have picked up more companions to The Third Eye. Jairo Perez, the muscle and fur of the group. Jairo is a werewolf who lost his family in a tragic assault and was transformed into a werewolf himself. Thanks to Third Eye, he not only learned to control his powers but got vengeance on who those did him wrong. Since then he has been living the chill life with the crew. Last but not least the elf out of time, Lena Morwen. Orphan as a baby by her biological parents, was adopted by a traveling magi. Lena is no ordinary elf as she is half Elvens of the Light and half Elvens of the Dark. From a young age, the magi trained her in the way of a warrior and magic. Day in day out was full of sword drills and books full knowledge from the magi. At the age of 21, the magi mysteriously disappeared. He left a amulet and a note for Lena. "Wear this amulet always and in the hour of your greatest need I will return." Lena left to rediscovered her own kind, but sadly was disappointed. She was rejected due to her mixed blood. Even worse, she was captured by an evil dark elf who wanted to use her for her mixed powers. Being all rejects of some kind, the crew took her with open arms and helped her recover. With no where else to go, she became a member of The Third Eye specializing in helping with magic related cases. Peace was only temporary for the crew, as little did they know they were destined to either bring light to the two worlds or bring death and darkness as evil overlords.

Surviving Auschwitz (A.k.a. Victor Young Perez) (2013)

A young boxer becomes a world champion but after a fight in Berlin he is captured and sent to a death camp where he is forced to fight for his life.

 The music was the first notable element that I became aware of as it has an unusual style and changes to different genres subtly but with a great deal of variation. There were the expected messages about solidarity and the indomitable human spirit but these weren’t pushed and the protagonist wasn’t set up as entirely good or infallible, these messages were mostly saved for the end.

 The title of the UK dvd is “Surviving Auschwitz” which isn’t as accurate as the alternative since the majority of the film isn’t set in the camp but in the years that lead up to it. Despite the title, this is probably better because it gives a better idea of life of the person on which the story is based. Even so most of the movie focuses on key life events with little attention paid to details or personal traits.

 The direction was good, particularly in the fight scenes and other moments of heightened emotion. The aesthetics were also effective, with much of the period mise-en-scene looking realistic. The main acting was also good as the lead protagonist felt authentic and was able to display a range of emotions competently and consistently.

 Using boxing as the character’s main attribute allows for a little subtext about reading one’s opponents and fighting for survival but it also ignores other issues about aggression and harming others for sport. The person’s story was worth telling but not because he was a notable figure at any point since any survivor, or not, is worth hearing from as the terror was a shared experience.

 3/10 -This one’s bad but it’s got some good in it, just there-

Meditations on the Character Design of Cyborg

Every day we stray farther from the creative vision of George Perez involving one Victor Stone and it is a yet unsung tragedy of epic proportions. I need not explain myself further, but I’m gonna do it anyways.

Before you ask: No I didn’t research this. I just googled a bunch of different images. However, I really feel that this was the only necessary research for this project.

Yeah not much to say. Pretty ugly, mainly just a giant weapon, not an actual person. Looks like a very tortured man, which is par for the course with DC movies. Probably doesn’t even have a robot dick.

Every time I see this image I have violent flashbacks to watching him remove his head. -3000000000/10. Doesn’t have hair. Do Not Like, but he’s happier looking than the one before AND he has a built in waffle iron, so he isn’t rock bottom.

I like the red highlights, very stylishly placed. His shoulders are so broad. You could fit three of his heads across them. Still far to serious looking, but at least he has hair.

This dude doesn’t have hair either, but he looks pretty badass. The blue is tasteful, and there are lots of sticky-out bits that give the impression of cool texture stuff. He looks like he’s about to throw hands with someone for insulting his grandma. He’s also got a little bit of arm showing, very scandalous of him.

This guy just looks cool. Maybe it’s just the panel or the lines, but he’s still cool as fuck. Lots of attention to detail, looks very glowy and powerful. If this dude showed up and commandeered my car I'd thank him. So shiny.

And finally, the original masterpiece. George Perez drew this guy to be sexy as hell for absolutely no reason, and every iteration that has tried to make the robot man look like less of a thot is Wrong. Look me in the eye and tell me that he doesn’t look like he’s wearing lingerie. Very cool, Very sexy, AND Very badass. 300000000000/10. I love it. phenomenal. He’s even got his own little utility belt, take That Batman.
