Look, I get it. I do, I’m here with you. But we CANNOT let this break us—it will help nothing if we doom-spiral and fall apart for him. “Oh no, we’re already fucked” and “it’s over, there’s nothing we can do, Trump is guaranteed gonna win the election” is 1) NOT TRUE and 2) doing Trump’s job for him. So respectfully, empathetically, we’re gonna have to get our fucking shit together and VOTE.
Voting CAN make a difference. It’s not over yet.
You can register to vote, check your registration status, or register after a change of address here: https://vote.gov/
You can check your state’s laws on absentee ballots and voting-by-mail here: https://www.nass.org/can-i-vote/absentee-early-voting
You can check important dates and deadlines for your state here: https://www.vote.org/voter-registration-deadlines/
You can check your state’s poll hours here: https://ballotpedia.org/State_Poll_Opening_and_Closing_Times_(2024)
You can volunteer with organizations like NextGen America or Election Protection to encourage engagement and help combat voter suppression: https://protectthevote.net/ https://nextgenamerica.org/ (even reminding friends and family to vote for Biden is helpful!)
Find your nearest polling place here if you’re planning to vote in-person: https://www.vote.org/polling-place-locator/ (Bonus article on how to find your county here: https://voterhelpdesk.usvotefoundation.org/en/support/solutions/articles/151000049164-where-can-i-look-up-my-county-)
Lyft will be running a program for free or discounted rides to polling places on Election Day through nonprofit partners. More information will be available closer to November 5th: https://www.lyft.com/blog/posts/lyft-announces-2024-voting-access-program
There’s more information and resources out there! I encourage you to explore and double-check, and most of all, I beg you: Please don’t give up hope. Go vote Biden on November 5th, 2024.
can't even joke rn bc this is abt to be the worst everrrrr like genuinely terrified abt how this is going to turn the tide here this is about to be like. really bad. that he survived. he is about to be so deified haha

VOTE
If you haven't voted already, today, November 5, 2024, is the last day for U.S. voters to vote in the 2024 presidential election. This is a critical election for our democracy. Please vote blue, and remember that your vote counts.
Where is your polling place? https://www.nass.org/can-i-vote/find-your-polling-place
If you are dropping off a mail-in ballot on Election Day, the dropoff location may be different from your polling place.
There may be free or discounted transportation to polling places in your area.
If you've already dropped off or mailed your ballot, ensure it was received: https://www.vote.org/ballot-tracker-tools/.
Remember that some states need to receive your ballot by Election Day, meaning that if it's still in the mail by the time the deadline passes, it will not count. You can check the receipt deadlines for mail-in ballots by state here (third column): https://www.vote.org/absentee-ballot-deadlines/
If something's gone wrong, or you believe your ballot may not be received on time, you may still be able to request a provisional ballot at your polling place on Election Day (these are ballots given when you are registered to vote but your eligibility cannot fully be verified, and they are counted last)
If you are voting for the first time, you must bring ID. If you do not but are still registered, you may still be able to vote provisionally.
If you make a mistake on your ballot, ask a poll worker to help you.
If you are in line at or before the time polls close, you will still be able to cast your vote. Do not leave the line. You can still vote.

If you are a voter in Georgia, please check your registration consistently as the election approaches.
The Secretary of State has launched a program that allows people to cancel registrations. Including other people's registrations. They can do so with only your name, date of birth, and county.
In Georgia, you have until 29 days before the election to register or re-register if you were purged.

USA Ballot Measures Nov. 2024
41 states (and Washington DC) have ballot measures this year! Even if your state's electoral college result isn't in question, you may have ballot measures to vote on alongside the presidential election and state-wide elections.
Below the read more link is an alphabetical list of each state with ballot measures. Each state name links to the Ballotpedia.org page for that state's ballot measures, which will be updated with new developments as election day nears (some ballot measures are still tied up in court as of when I'm making this post in late September, so the approved ballot measures may change before you vote). Ballotpedia has information on each ballot measure, including what a yes/no would mean, arguments for and against, who supports/opposes each measure, and the full text of the measure.

If you are getting sick of the two-party system and elections running candidates you hate, or incumbents you can't rebuke without electing someone so much worse, or partisan primaries repeatedly giving you the wing of your too-large-tent party that sucks... You need to look into making voting reform a big part of your political priorities.
Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) can be a big part of that!
And in 2024, RCV (also sometimes called IRV for "instant-runoff voting") is going to be on a lot of ballots, so check your state and get informed! Here's a list that I'm not sure is comprehensive, but I did research it for you to have somewhere to start:
First off, here's a post with some resources for you to do your ballot research with! I used Ballotpedia to look up this list, for example, after most of the RCV news only mentioned the 4 states with the most straightforward "vote yes for RCV" measures.
In Alaska... the state approved a RCV system in 2020 that has been a model success, but now the people with narrower support who lost their elections to broadly popular moderates introduced the Repeal Top-Four Ranked-Choice Voting Initiative to repeal it. This will be on the Nov 5 ballot as an Initiative, and people need to Vote No.
In Arizona... it's possible that optional RCV and a workaround RCV ban will both be on the ballot. The ban from the Legislature doesn't stop RCV but prevents the primary system often used with it - the goal is to make RCV harder to implement. It will be on the Nov 5 ballot as Proposition 133, and people need to Vote No. The Eliminate Partisan Primaries Amendment has RCV options and has turned in its signatures, so it may be on the Nov 5 ballot - Keep Watch and Vote Yes if it appears.
In Colorado... a Top-Four Ranked-Choice Voting Initiative modeled on Alaska's could bring RCV to state executive, state legislative, and congressional office elections. This may be on the Nov 5 ballot - Keep Watch and Vote Yes if it appears.
In Idaho... a Top-Four Ranked-Choice Voting Initiative modeled on Alaska's will bring RCV to Congressional office, state legislature, elective state office, and county elective office elections. This will be on the Nov 5 ballot as an Initiative (1), and people need to Vote Yes.
In Missouri... the Missouri GOP has been shoehorning in deceptive Constitutional Amendments to reduce voter influence for the past several elections. This year it's a ban on RCV hidden under a useless ban on non-citizen voting (which is already illegal and the state Constitution already says "citizens" when saying who can vote). This will be on the Nov 5 ballot as the Require Citizenship to Vote and Prohibit Ranked-Choice Voting Amendment, and people need to Vote No.
In Montana... signatures have been submitted for two separate constitutional amendments, one establishing Top-Four primaries and another requiring a majority-vote system to be implemented (which would likely be a run-off or RCV system). These may be on the Nov 5 ballot - Keep Watch and Vote Yes if they appear.
In Nevada... In 2022 the first round of a Top-Five Ranked-Choice Voting Initiative was approved by 52.94%. It has to be approved again in 2024 in order to be implemented. It will bring RCV to Congressional office, statewide executive, and state legislature elections. This will be on the Nov 5 ballot as Question 3, and people need to Vote Yes.
In Oregon... a Ranked-Choice Voting for Federal and State Elections Measure will bring RCV to Presidential, Congressional office, governor, Secretary of state, attorney general, state treasurer, and commissioner of labor and industries elections. This will be on the Nov 5 ballot as a Measure, and people need to Vote Yes.
And a bonus in South Dakota... it's not RCV, but the Top-Two Primary Elections Initiative (Amendment H) would be a significant voting reform, and it will be on the Nov 5 ballot. Do some research if you live there and decide if this would help or hinder elections.

Since I recognize that I'm not really in the mental place to be talking much about what happened to Trump online, I'm going to share resources for the liberals out there who may feel like this is the end of this election.
Let me be perfectly clear: This election is not over.
Trump voters are going to be riled up. They are going to use this as a moment to rally around. That does NOT mean that we've lost and America is doomed.
So what can you do right now?
Check your voter registration here.
Not registered? You've moved and it's out of date? Update your voter registration/registration here.
Don't forget to vote up and down the ballot! Local elections matter, and hopefully you'll find someone you're a lot more passionate about on a local level.
And make sure your friends do the same!!!!
This website also covers what you may need to bring with you the day of. Some states require you to bring your ID, for example, so go check.
Your state may have early voting options, and you should definitely use those! They make life a lot easier. You can check those out here.
P.S. Make sure to check your voter registration closer to the election as well, just in case. Probably sometime in September would be best, but just keep an eye out.

Something that I wish more people understood is that this election is no longer about who forms a government. That is a forgone conclusion at this point unless shit really hits the fan. This election is about who leads the opposition.
If the conservatives are allowed to get away with second place, they will still have the platform to poison our politics and rebuild to come back down the line.
If the lib dems get to finish second instead, they will get to set the narrative, the media will be forced to platform them more and the conservatives less, and we actually stand a chance at having the labour government held to account. Polls show that this is on the cards.
We are so close to a seismic shift in politics in this country.
But to do it, we need to vote tactically. We need to the number of lib dem seats where possible, but realistically they have a ceiling of support at around 70-75 seats. So the other half of the equation is to reduce the number of conservative seats as far below 70 as we can. There is no such thing as a safe tory seat this election, with enough tactical voting they can all be wiped out.
To that end, here are two resources that can help:
^^The most reliable tactical voting site with the greatest track record, proven to be legit unlike some of the fake ones that the tories have set up, and the only one that I know of purely focused on getting the tories out of power and out of the opposition.
^^An initiative to try to beat the tory and reform uk bot farms at their own game.
Together we can reach net zero tories

Oh my god, thank you for getting on your soapbox about homelessness, it feels very Cliche Liberal to be like "I literally do not know anymore how to assess the most useful choice in this situation" but. I did not. Having someone I know is knowledgeable about homelessness and municipal options to get people housed lay out the options and the reasons for choosing them helps so much. You're a good internet big sister <3
yeah baby i get you!! there are no perfect answers - homelessness services systems, in all places not just the U.S., are extremely complex and flawed. there are no 100% good answers. lots of people will not agree with me because there are no 100% good answers, and also because there's a lot of bad information floating around.
i also get het up about this because i did spend time in encampments and i have seen some awful things, and it's frustrating when people want to do good. we all want the same thing it's just that i think a just okay intervention is better than no intervention, because no intervention is physically, mentally, socially, and often sexually deeply harmful. (for example, the percentage of youth who are homeless are overwhelmingly LGBTQ+, a demographic famously vulnerable to exploitation, and many of them do end up in encampments, and many of them do end up experiencing exploitation.)
i give a lot of my own philanthropic money to homelessness prevention, but there are people who need help now, and that's a long-term fight that involves making use of the services we have and applying persistent, ongoing pressure to local government. neither one of those activities is particularly sexy, but there you go. it's both/and! it has to be both/and.
