I so very much want to know the lineage of vulcan lore and how...not if...HOW the character of Sherlock Holmes had a part in it
I've got a theory that when Vulcans say "I do not experience that emotion" or "I do not feel ___" it's actually a traditional mantra/prayer rather than a statement of fact.

rebecca watches ds9: profit and loss
ah ok we’re doing an in medias res opening
cardassian incoming?
cardassians plural!
cardassian lady! have we seen cardassian ladies yet?
well if we have i forgor 💀
oh and they’re nice cardassians! those are few and far-between
the boyfriends are fightingggg
or debating at least
i’ve heard the fandom talk about them and books, so ig they’re discussing a book rn
“sarek of vulcan?” “actually it was bashir of earth” i’m love him
“you wouldn’t last for five seconds on cardassia” “would you?” julian you are insane for that
outcasts, spies, outcast spies
wait hang on i want to hear about the 12 rumors quark’s started
odo and quark’s beef will never not be hilarious to me
damn quark what’d you do to natima (aside from existing and all that)
alright ig he likes getting slapped
that fully tracks actually
student: is this guy bothering you queen
quark take the fucking hint i stg
somehow i doubt that he was the love of her life
samarian sunsets look so cool i want one
odds on her throwing it in his face by the end of this scene?
oh lord. friend of yours garak?
ohhh these cardassians are not on good terms with the others
guess that explains their being nice
garak and quark are both menaces to society so i worry about their combined power
there is not a single honest statement being made in this entire conversation
garak what the fuck is the dress a metaphor for here. is it the military or political ideologies or just people in general or what
oh you’d know all about flamboyance wouldn’t you garak
girl why did you trust quark in the first place
i want to know more about the cardassian underground
cardassians have very big necks
c’mon quark no means no
the ship will be ready to go in an hour but there’s 27 minutes left in the episode so clearly something will go wrong
ah. cardassian warship. that is the thing going wrong then
julian please come collect your freak of a man. he’s doing things (showing up in ops unannounced)
i don’t think i trust what the cardassian govt has to say about terrorism
of course garak’s not just a simple tailor. i think that’s obvious
everything garak says sounds like it’s being filtered through several layers of deception
drinks on the house??? quark is down bad
what the fuck is he doing now
ah right paranoia about odo
i feel like offering the gift caused quark physical pain
natima might be willing to stay on the station as a sacrifice to get her students safe passage
however i’ve never heard her mentioned online so i’m guessing it won’t happen
alright apparently she is not the self-sacrificing sort, can’t blame her
she did NOT hesitate. she was talking practically the moment he finished
GET HIS ASS NATIMA
wait tf do you mean it was an accident. you should have done that on purpose
she changed her tune real fuckin quick. i can only assume this is a plan of some kind
if she actually did spontaneously fall back in love with him i am going to fight the writers
yeah i definitely feel like this is a deception
or maybe not! off to a cell!
how are they gonna get out of this one
did garak just bite a shirt. he’s so weird. i love him
is this guy your ex
GARAK YOU FUCKER
if bashir didn’t love you i’d reach through the screen and kill you
obsessed with odo reading crime fiction. get my king into a sherlock holmes holosuite
idk quark i think you’ll manage to find meaning without natima, we’ve still got five seasons to go
their dynamic is absolutely unhinged and i love it
time for escape!!!
oh ffs garak
i cannot figure out how they’re gonna get out of this. he’s right there with a phaser
oh god and teran’s here. this is insane
guess if he can’t go back to cardassia garak’s got no reason to go along with the cardassian plan
hence the…disintegration? is that what just happened?
garak’s moral compass is a fucking roulette wheel
i guess natima really did spontaneously fall back in love with quark. men should not be allowed to write
ok before i go, idk if anyone is still reading these but if you are please lmk, because liveblogging is starting to burn me out on trek. my planned solution is to just allow myself to not liveblog some eps but if no one’s reading then i’m just not gonna bother anymore. so please tell me if anyone reads these

Roles I'd like to see Sam Claflin in
So I don't think I'm the only one (for once lol) who likes to imagine roles for my favourite actor. Here are mine:
a detective - he'll be something of the kind in Lazarus (if that thing will ever see the light of day) but I'm thinking a proper private eye, who sometimes bends the law and might have a conflicted inner life. The GQ photoshoot already gave us Sam in a long trench coat, one my absolute favourite pictures of him.
a pirate - he already starred in a pirate franchise; he was apparently set to return for the 5th instalment but they changed their minds (though he was supposed to be a cartographer, not a pirate; I would have liked that as I like maps). He once said in one interview that he would like to do more POTC and become a pirate, I'd be chuffed if this happened, though I'm not sure how likely it is. Still, there's other stories. Maybe a Treasure Island adaptation? Black Sails served as a prequel to this and it did really well, so idk if people would want more from these characters. There is also Frenchman's Creek by Daphne du Maurier, in which the titular Frenchman is a hot pirate, though it's more of a romance. He's already done one du Maurier adaptation, so why not another one?
a heist - you can't beat a good heist, and Sam as slick heist gang leader, elegantly dressed would melt all of our hearts! George Clooney who?
a vampire - vampire fiction is not my thing, but I'd totally be for a vampire Sam, it would be something different.
any action film, preferably with lots of comedy moments - I love stupid action tropes: car chases (gods I can't get enough of car chases), scaling skyscrapers, jumping out of helicopters, breaking through glass without suffering a single cut, shooting guns with both hands while falling, fights in bars/clubs while (live)music plays, give me all of that! One of my favourite scenes of all time is the meat or potatoes one from Sherlock Holmes 2009. I f I could see Sam in anything like that, I wouldn't ask for anything more, I swear! In fact, give me Sam in a Guy Ritchie flick!
a Viking - as I just decided today, Sam needs to play a Viking. Sea, fighting, crazy hairstyles, a romance with a shield-maiden! (And he has worked with 2 Danish directors, Lone Scherfig (twice) and Bille August!)
a firefighter - so that @jesstasticvoyage can have all her Christmases come at once. I thought there could be a film about the Grenfell fire and Sam could play a firefighter. I think it's something he would like to do, he mentioned once that his grandad was a paramedic. Pierre Niney, the other Monte Cristo guy, played a firefighter, so if they already have one role in common, why not two? I insist, though, that he has to rescue a kitten. If he doesn't rescue a kitten, I'm returning the product to the seller!
an elf or a Vulcan/Romulan in Star Trek - bc his ears are so distinct, it would be fun to see him in something where he has to have prosthetic ears. Elf: I once said I'd like to see him in an epic fantasy like Rings of Power, which has elves (or smth else from that universe), but it doesn't even have to be that, a children's live action film would do, honestly. Another option is a Vulcan or a Romulan in Star Trek--which you know, Star Trek is one of my things, though I've not been keeping up with the latest shows.
a character in an Agatha Christie adaptation, but is has to be 1. a good adaptation and 2. not a murderer or a victim. It circles back to the first point about a detective; there are some amateur sleuths in her books, in this case he obvs would not be a private eye as he is not a good choice for Poirot, but he can just play one of the suspects who turns out to be innocent. Possibilities are Major Despard in Cards on the Table, Colin Lamb in Clocks, Geoffrey Raymond or Major Blunt in Murder of Roger Ackroyd (Blunt is supposed to be older, but it a younger one would work too and then there would be a smaller age gap between him and [redacted to avoid spoilers]). And many others.
an artist - he has done a rockstar, a writer, a screenwriter and a cameraman, so all that remains is an artist. John William Waterhouse in a biopic/biopic about pre-Raphaelites perhaps?
a humanities professor - this one has been mentioned by other fans too. Can be dark academia or not.
a scientist or a tech expert in a thriller. Someone who saves or helps save the day.
in the past I would have said a superhero in MCU (or even DC) but I have not been following MCU for a good couple of years now, idk just lost interest I guess (I might return to it). But if the Barbaric series does go ahead, then that's just as good. If not better!
an older Finnick Odair who happily lives with Annie and their son and Johanna as their adopted aunt. They told the wrong story in Mockingjay, it never happened.
anything funny. So much of his stuff is so dark/serious, the guy needs to do more comedy. As the shirtless dancing in the kitchen video proves, he has the talent for it. Come on just make us laugh, Sam!
Add yours if you want!

lol amanda grayson being a descendant of enola holmes or arthur conan doyle would be so on point. like imagine if that’s how spock also rationalizes how his parents got together.
you know what I WANNA READ
we've collectively decided that jim reads like. jane austen and other such authors religiously
i want to see a fic where he's reading acd sherlock and he's like annotating the book (because it's not a valuable copy he obviously has more valuable copies that he keeps in pristine condition) with a bunch of johnlock moments
and spock asks to borrow a book and jim's like "have at it" and leaves. so spock picks one of his ANNOTATED copies of sherlock holmes.
and he's reading thru and taking notes of these markings and highlights and he realizes they're supposed to be romantic moments
SO THEN spock starts trying to court jim IN THE STYLE OF JOHNLOCK
and jim is so confused like wtf is happening and then he realizes one of his annotated copies is GONE
and he FREAKS THE FUCK OUT because he thinks spock is just experimenting
someone write this pls i'll pay you (i'm a minor and i have no money)

So this is a very non popular take but there is one tag/trope that I keep wanting to find in my spirk fics that I've never found. It's non acceptance of homosexuality.
Wait wait, let me explain!
When RDJ did Sherlock there were a lot of really good stories where Sherlock was pining for John and the story was about John learning to accept it.
'But this takes place in the future, not the past' you say. Yes, I get that, but a case could be made that the child arrangements and pairings on Vulcan are considered 'logical' to insure the pair have kids (even if spock is sterile) . A M/M F/F pairing is not done among Vulcans, only other species and is looked at as some thing perverse.
And honestly, before SNW did anyone really think Spock was involved with T'pring? I'd love a story (AOS but I could probably be ok with a TOS) where Spock is starting to realize he has feelings for Jim but either rationalizes it away or denies it. Kirk low key flirt with him (after all he does with everyone!) but knows about Vulcans so assumes it would never happen.
And thus the story proceeds!

Sherlock and Co but Star Trek?
Tumblr media
I LOVE THIS AU IDEA!!! kinda mad at s&co for. ahem. the DID episode. but i still had fun doing these designs :D
story details:
john is an ensign and medical officer, he used to be higher ranked, but got demoted after helping some bajoran rebels. hes really just there to help people who are hurt, but sherlock always has him around whenever he goes down to work a case because he genuinely likes him
mariana is a security officer, perhaps even head of security. unlike in the podcast, shes almost always going along with sherlock and john for safety reasons. shes originally not that close with sherlock when compared with john, but they eventually warm up to each other
sherlock is not TECHNICALLY in starfleet, he never graduated from the academy or, in fact, any school, but hes like some kind of super-genius so starfleet likes to use him whenever theres like legal troubles (starfleet officers going missing, theft of federation property, etc). sherlock is half vulcan, half human, and most starfleet officers find him abrasive and annoying. mariana and john are some of his first real friends in starfleet, even though theyve basically been using sherlock as a tool for years now
also sherlock totally has the option to wear a starfleet uniform despite not being a real officer (he has an honorary rank) but he absolutely refuses to. he HAS to wear the formal uniforms sometimes tho and whenever that happens he is grumpy and complains very loudly
also they are a polycule. and sherlock is ace. 👍
victor and mycroft and lestrade are also in starfleet. lestrade is a captain, mycroft is an admiral, and victor is transporter chief on a different ship than the s&co polycule. he used to be on the same ship as sherlock but when he got promoted he got transferred to a different ship

Star Trek fanfic recs
A long list of some of my all time favorite Star Trek fics. Not in any order. I just combed through my ao3 bookmarks for fics that still resonate with me and really blew me away. I will try to tag the authors if I can find blogs for them. If you know an authors blog I haven’t tagged, please tag them!
I dont have the spoons to write lil reviews for each fic bc theres toooooo many but maybe I’ll come back and edit some in sometime.
And eventually I’m gonna make a list like this for Sherlock Holmes and a few other fandoms. Also want to make one specific to podfics. We’ll see what happens first! This took me way longer than I thought it would…
Recs below the cut!
Star Trek TOS and AOS
The Thousandth Man (56187 words) by Ophelia_j In the wake of pon farr, the events on Vulcan are weighing heavy on Spock and his Captain. But will their attempt to fix the problem only make things worse?
The effect of sucrose on Vulcans (2290 words) by Ophelia_j After a successful diplomatic mission, Jim begins to suspect there's something wrong with Spock. Some Old Married Spirk Fluff for the 2019 OMS Challenge, for the awesome plaidshirtjimkirk.
The Eleventh Hour (8551 words) by Ophelia_j During a joint lecture at the Academy, Spock senses that Kirk is growing tired of the secrecy around their relationship and takes steps to resolve the matter.
A Crazy Little Thing Called Love (14940 words) by VTsuion The development of Kirk and Spock's relationship over the course of The Original Series, told in a series of off-screen moments.
The World Turned Upside Down (24777 words) by Jenna Hilary Sinclair On a planet torn by civil war, Kirk must battle insurgents, a Vulcan Healer, and his own heartbreak to find his way to Spock.
The Ren shat'var Trilogy (184,403 words) by CateAdams A split-second decision changes Jim's life forever, as he enters into a bond with Spock in the face of certain torture. Enemies to the Federation emerge from unlikely places, and the command team must contend with unexpected threats, as well as challenges within their own intense relationship. In this three-part series, the Enterprise races across the galaxy to confront the unknown, and Jim and Spock discover the true significance of their unprecedented connection.
First, Best Destiny - Parts One and Two (387733 words) by Ophelia_j A novel-length retelling of original Star Trek canon through the lens of one of the greatest relationships ever committed to film. Using missing scenes, episode tags, and original story-telling. Ultimately a Generations fix-it.
All the Time in the World (27856 words) by LSPINGLES The death of Edith Keeler affects Kirk and Spock in different ways. Spock invites Kirk to come with him to Vulcan to heal. Along the way the learn something about their feelings for each other.
Spice (276553 words) by eimeo It’s a question of biology. Vulcan biology. The problem with falling in love with a member of an insanely private species is that it just might take you the best part of a five year mission to work out that the feelings are requited. And then you might discover that he’s already decided that the two of you can never be together. And what are you supposed to do if he won’t tell you why?
Fulfilling the Needs of the One (Or the Both) (8741 words) by plaidshirtjimkirk Spock begins to wonder if his relationship with Jim has been one-sided in his own favor.
Touch Upon the Wonders that You See (4071 words) by waldorph Sarek does not always understand his son, but that does not mean he does not love him.
Entering Orbit (30957 words) by museaway Jim escapes to Iowa to avoid the media frenzy following the Narada incident, but a late-night miscommunication results in Spock turning up on his front porch.
Something Smart to Do (21322 words) by kianspo In which Jim finds himself fake-married to his first officer every other month. It's not his fault. Mostly. Dowries and Klingons are involved. Starfleet is decidedly not amused.
Don't Stop Believing (205901 words) by kianspo The story follows Spock from his own days as a cadet at Starfleet Academy to the ‘present day’ when he’s Kirk’s first officer and the Enterprise is on its five-year mission. Essentially, the story of Spock’s first real love followed by the story of him finding the love of his life. Ad astra per aspera.
And Then I Let It Go (10632 words) by kianspo Post-Star Trek Beyond. The crew of the Enterprise gets a breather while they are waiting for their new ship. Jim uses the time to do something he had sworn he would never do.
The Lotus Eaters (93594 words) by aldora89 Stranded on the planet Sigma Nox while searching for a missing away team, Spock and Kirk find themselves pitted against a disturbing native life form. With the captain out of commission on a regular basis and Spock struggling to preserve his stoicism, staying alive is difficult enough – but when a slim chance for escape surfaces, their resolve is truly put to the test. Together they must fight for survival in the heart of an alien jungle, and in the process, uncover the mystery of the planet’s past. Slow build K/S.
Atlas (135529 words) by distractedKat Between what was and what will be stands James Tiberius Kirk, in all his fractured patchwork glory. Because saving the Federation was only the beginning. A novel-length continuation of the 2009 movie told in four parts. Cross-posted from FFN. PODFIC AVAILABLE! https://archiveofourown.org/works/652116/chapters/1187249
The Word Withheld (12032 words) by j_s_cavalcante After retrieving Kirk from the interspatial rift of "The Tholian Web," Spock realizes his oath to Starfleet and his service aboard the Enterprise are in jeopardy because he has denied to himself—and withheld from Kirk—a certain truth about the nature of the Vulcan relationship called "t’hy’la."
this is what happens when you save earth, apparently (5454 words) by WerewolvesAreReal “So, why haven't you settled down with some lucky lady yet?” the interviewer asks. Maybe it's the blinding set-lights, or the fact that he hasn't slept in thirty-five hours. But for some reason Kirk blurts, “Honestly, they all end up getting jealous of Spock.”
Four times the Enterprise Crew didn´t realize that their commanding officers were married to each other and one time they finally found out (4130 words) by razzleberryicedtea In which Spock and Jim casually forget to mention that they are married, and the Enterprise crew is too oblivious to notice on their own
A Star to Steer By (32043 words) by Borealisblue Kidnapped, injured, and headed towards Romulan space, Kirk could only be grateful that his last act was saving Spock from the same fate. And all it had cost was a stolen kiss.
An Open Secret (3495 words) by TransScribe Amanda Grayson knew her son. She could read him, easily. That might've been why she had suspicions about his relationship long before he said anything. It was more likely because subtlety was not a trait Spock had inherited.
the book of love (7297 words) by miss_frankenstein When yet another away mission goes awry, Jim and Spock are left stranded on a hostile planet with nothing to do but talk. What follows is a conversation about art and literature, life and death, love and friendship.
Take My Hand (My Whole Life Too) (5981 words) by pastmydancingdays Whilst in one of the most dangerous situations of his life, Jim Kirk came to a realisation that he should have had a very long time ago. Two, in fact, and he was about to let neither go to waste. A potential epilogue to Amok Time.
Ashayam (3378 words) by Willowe Spock knows he has no right to refer to Jim as any sort of endearment, even in the privacy of his own thoughts. If he had only listened to this logic he wouldn't find himself in this position, standing on the bridge having just called his captain "ashayam".

Upcoming holonovel releases this month!
Catch the latest entertainment, available soon at your local holosuite!
Captain Proton Versus the Zombies of the Stratosphere!
Tom Paris’ latest instalment in his Captain Proton series has Proton face off against undead alien invaders who seek to swap their dying planet’s location for Earth’s warm orbit. It is down to you to stop them from throwing Earth away into the cold void of space with the power of atom bombs!
Vulcan Love Slave, Volume VII: T’Hot in Prison
Fresh off Ferenginar’s anonymous erotic presses, this latest tale from the Vulcan Love Slave series sees T’Hots thrown into a barbaric Breen prison where she must “bond” with her fellow female inmates to plan an escape. Can she distract the attention of the cold and mysterious Breen guards to allow her comrades in chains to melt away the ice walls of their cells with their physical activity? (Please note this programme may be restricted in some Starfleet holodecks; check before you download)
Human
The first Exocomp-written holonovel follows the crew of the all-Exocomp science ship Omortson who come across a derelict spaceship in an uncharted asteroid belt. The brave Exocomps mistakenly release a creature from stasis, a deadly and aggressive Human who starts to stalk and murder the crew within their own vessel. Can you survive and ensure the Human doesn’t escape the ship onto other worlds?
Sharknado Attack!
When a freak hurricane swamps San Francisco, thousands of sharks terrorize the waterlogged Starfleet Command. Pyblic Domayne HoloProductions previously became famous for adapting classic Human works like Dixon Hill, Sherlock Holmes, Beowulf and Shakespeare. With the recent craze for Human stories from the early 21st century they’ve been adapting that era’s golden classics such as Bubba Ho-Tep, 50 Shades of Grey, The Emoji Movie and Daddy Day Camp. Sharknado is celebrated as one of the great works of the era and this is the best adaptation of the work to date!
An Eye for a Golden Lady
Felix’s Secret Agent series continues as you are sent on a mission to retrieve the kidnapped daughter of the Japanese emperor. As you travel across ancient Earth in style, uncovering a vast criminal arms conspiracy, all our nuclear war is on the line! But you'll still find time to seduce the princess and sample the local martinis.
Photons Be Free: The Opera
The Doctor, from Voyager, has adapted his tale of photonic servitude for those more musically inclined. The 5-hour-long operatic masterpiece will have you singing along (autotuned if necessary) with the characters as you play an abused holographic slave to an evil crew. The locations are redesigned to be more abstract like stage dressing and, based on the quality of your performance, expect a round of applause for your performance!

Hallo! Like many other people, I found you thanks to the incredible piece on why Byler IS GONNA be endgame. In your second/response post on this matter you briefly mentioned Supernatural, Teen Wolf and Sherlock, and I was wondering if you could make direct comparisons to these cases and explain how exactly they differ from Byler. If you knew about these shows while they were still airing, did you also strongly believe or at least had a bit of hope that those ships would become canon? If no, what are the main differences that make ST's pair so unique? If yes, do you believe you overlooked/assumed things back then that you now account for better? And sorry if this is an annoying or repetitive question, I imagine you've gotten a bunch of similar requests and you might want to distance yourself from the topic alr + from what little I know about those 2010s shows I can already kind of predict the answer myself thanks to your definitions of queerbaiting v queer-coding v accidental romance, so I guess this is more of an excuse so I get a chance to read another one of your masterful posts, apologies for that hehe <3
Honestly, I used those examples because they're really well-known in general, not because I'm an expert on those pieces of media. A piece of media I probably know better on a personal level that did queerbaiting isn't even a great example because it was just on such a small scale, but definitely still held true under "We're doing this simultaneously to pander to and make fun of queer people," but no one was too invested because it was with a minor character, so no one cared much, and no one really believed was going to happen. Tonally, though, it matches up with the other examples, and it's another piece of shit that came straight outta Moffat's ass. Uhh...
youtube
Yes, that's James Corden. Not relevant. The important thing is that this is a scene that works as an example of what The Queerbaiting Tone™ feels like.
If you haven't seen Doctor Who--first of all, how did you find Tumblr, but more importantly--this character was in a whopping two episodes. Minor character, had a love interest, but his relationship with the Doctor was still remarkably, like, intimate?
The doctor's companions never joined him on the episodes he was with this character, they were roommates for a while (oh my god they were roommates), they had the whole one-sided-rivals thing (Corden's character was jealous of how the Doctor seemed to charm everyone around him while the Doctor just wanted Corden's character safe and happy), there was a goddamn scene where Corden's character got poisoned and the Doctor nursed him back to health complete with staying at his bedside and gently brushing the hair out of his eyes and all that shit... And the second episode Craig (I just remembered the character's name--shut up, it's been a while) was in happened because the Doctor was informed he was about to die and he decided Craig was someone he wanted to see just one last time.
Then the above scene happened.
And you can see that, like, it's blatantly a joke, Craig mentions he has a wife, he's such a minor character that no one actually believes he's going to romance the Doctor and run away with him, but all of the genuine moments between them still happened. This is still a character the Doctor (normally a ~mysterious~ character) chose to have a goddamn Vulcan-style mind-meld with.
And, again, this was a joke. The punchline is the idea of them being gay. Hilarious. Two men being in love. Absolutely ground-breaking humor.
Queerbaiting is just that scene, and those two episodes of Doctor Who, but with a much longer buildup to the punchline. The longer that buildup is, the more real it feels. The more effort is spent on it, the more you want to believe it's too much effort to be a joke. And the more space is spread about between them, the harder it is to remember all the little micro-jokes the big joke is made of.
And again, Byler has never had that. Stranger Things has never had that. I'd love to show every goddamn scene with a queer character or queerness mentioned in the show just to prove that it's not the same, but that's hard because it's harder to show the absence of something than the presence of something. It'd take too long. And the sincere scenes that do make up Will and Mike's love story, those are between the jokes with queerbaiting. Again, there was a scene in Doctor Who where Craig got poisoned and the Doctor stayed by his bedside and made him tea and did his work for him in the meantime so he wouldn't fall behind. But, again, that's between jokes.
Mike and Will have never developed their relationship between jokes. They're not a punchline. There's no joke here. It's only Mike desperately calling Will's name through the radio when he hears him singing. It's only Mike saying that meeting him was the best thing he's ever done. It's only Will tearfully telling Mike that he wanted to play games with him for the rest of his life. It's only Will giving Mike a veiled confession by projecting his feelings onto El. Over and over and over again, it's sincere, sincere, sincere, sincere, sincere.
Their closeness isn't funny, it's just love. And that's the difference.

A/b/o anon again 🤗
I AM SO EXCITED TO READ YOUR STORY OML
Also, I am still pretty new a/b/o, so learning lots of new things. I appreciate the patience <3
Also also, I work in a bookstore too!! We just expanded our romance section and I'm SO EXCITED. If you have any good romance recs too, I am all ears!
Okay, off to read the fics!!!!
ask 1, ask 2
I first got into omegaverse years ago, not for Supernatural where it really took off, but for BBC Sherlock. What’s fun is that each fandom has its own way they do omegaverse, and such things can change over the years as well.
Back when I was deep in omegaverse in Sherlock, things were definitely more into the shifter aspect of things, making it a lot more wolf-like. Meanwhile, in Stranger Things fandom I feel like the intersex alphas and omegas are more popular, giving male omegas and female alphas both dicks and vaginas to some extent. In Star Trek, I’ve seen it more catlike with Vulcans. Omegaverse as we know it might have started with Supernatural, but Star Trek was the first thing that really popularized the “have sex or die” heat idea with the Pon Farr.
The best thing about omegaverse though is that there are no set rules. There’s common and popular ways to do it, but it can really be done in whatever way the writer wants, which is what makes it so exciting. For me, I personally love playing around with the social dynamics of things. I love the angst of making omegas lesser in society’s eyes and the trauma that causes my blorbos, especially if it doesn’t fit with the rest of their personality or character.
Take your time to get comfortable with the trope, test out the things you enjoy in it so you know what you want to avoid in the future. It can be quite fun, and you might even learn new things about yourself that you weren’t yet familiar with.
As for regular romance books, I can definitely point you in the right direction for some.
Bride by Ali Hazelwood, for example, deals a little bit with omegaverse type things. ML is a werewolf and FL is a vampire and it’s a bit of an arranged marriage. I haven’t read it, personally, but she’s a popular writer and a lot of her books used to be fanfic or whatever so she’s familiar with certain tropes.
We Could Be Heroes by Philip Ellis is one of my all-time favorite books. It’s a romcom with only one scene of spice that isn’t even all that spicy compared to other things I read, but it’s significant to the plot. Basically closeted Hollywood star meets a British Drag Queen. It has some fantastic commentary on queer culture and queer liberation. Literally heart eyes when I talk about this book. It’s so cute and funny and heartwarming.
Winter’s Orbit by Everina Maxwell is another of my all-time favorite books. (Also might have been a fanfic at some point.) Literally the first book I’ve ever read that even before I was finished reading it I thought “wow I cannot wait to reread this” because it was that good. It is technically more of a scifi book, a queer spaceopera actually, so the romance plays second fiddle to the plot. But oh what a romance. Arranged marriage, murder mystery, intergalactic intrigue…so good. Also has a companion, Ocean’s Echo. That one is equally as good, more scifi-y, with a different cast of characters. The author told me I was brave when I said I adopted one of the MLs as my son because he was such a chaos disaster bisexual slut. I love him.
Payback’s a Witch by Lana Harper is also really fun, bisexual FL with a bisexual FLI. FL is a witch with low power and leaves her magic town after a broken heart, only to have to return for a magic tournament and learning that not only did the guy who broke her heart later date her best friend, he was also two-timing her with a badass witch from one of the more macabre witch families. So the three of them decide to get revenge on the asshole, with the FL and badass witch falling in love along the way.
Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo is a Young Adult story, but really good. The FL is a young Chinese American girl who is coming to terms with her sexuality while also falling for her white female classmate. The story is set in the 1950s during the Red Scare and deals with both what it was like to be Chinese at the time and also the queer community and culture back then, including police raids and gender identity. It has a companion sequel with a different set of characters but vaguely connected to the first book, set shortly after gay marriage was legalized and deals even more with gender identity and sense of self, titled A Scatter of Light.
Back to sexy times, I actually also really enjoyed Neon Gods by Katee Robert which is a modern dark romance retelling of Greek mythology and part of the Dark Olympus series. The first book deals with Hades and Persephone, where Persephone is trying to escape from Zeus so strikes up a deal with Hades to sexually defile her body so that Zeus won’t want her anymore while Hades gets to one-up his brother. Hades also owns a BDSM sex club.
That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon is the first book in the Mead Mishaps series by Kimberly Lemming which is a cute, funny, cozy fantasy series with some steamy bits. The author started writing this series after attending a show and meeting @drchucktingle who is also one of my all-time favorite authors.
His romance is restricted to Amazon pretty much rn so can’t get it in major stores but most of his horror is phenomenal and traditionally published in major retailers. And yeah I highly recommend all of it. Trans Wizard Harriet Porber and the Bad Boy Parasaurolophus and its sequel Trans Wizard Harriet Porber and the Theater of Love are so fantastically meta and speaks out against JK Terfling’s hatred and is all about loving and accepting yourself because you are radiant just the way you are. His horror is queer as well and utterly top notch if that’s your sort of thing.
Speaking of queer horror, This Delicious Death by Kayla Cottingham is Young Adult and is about how some percentage of the world became flesh-eating monsters but can now control their urges and resume human-like appearances by consuming synthetic flesh. The main characters are all these creatures and attend a music festival where something goes wrong and these people who once had the transformation under control are now going feral. The FL is also in love with her best friend, who is a trans girl.
Another Young Adult book I loved is The Witch and the Vampire by Francesca Flores which is a kind of Rapunzel retelling if Rapunzel was a vampire and the “Prince” was her ex-best friend who became a vampire hunter. Friends-to-enemies-to-reluctant-allies-to-lovers as they must now work together to uncover the secret that could destroy everything.
The Nightmare Before Kissmas and its companion sequel Go Luck Yourself by Sara Raasch are both excellent more of a cozy romcom and part of the Royals and Romance series about the royal families of holidays falling in love. The first one is definitely Steddie coded in my personal opinion.
But yeah. There’s a few non-fanfic recommendations I have lol.

184
2. What fandoms do you write for?
Supernatural
Sherlock
Teen Wolf
Marvel
James Bond
Star Trek
Merlin
Harry Potter
Primeval
House MD
Venom
The Old Guard
Detroit Become Human
The Witcher
Good Omens
Lucifer
Hannibal
Our Flag Means Death
Ted Lasso
Staged
Carnival Row
Doctor Who
The Umbrella Academy
True Blood
So, just a few XD
3. Top five fics by kudos:
1- Meant To Be (Star Trek AOS)
2- Making Love (Venom)
3- 5 Times Jim Forgot About Vulcan Hand Sensitivity & 1 Time He Didn't (Star Trek AOS)
4- Lunch Break (House M.D.)
5- Truth Or Dare (Supernatural)
4. Do you respond to comments?
Yes, unless it's hate or I have not a single thing to say in response
5. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Off the top of my head, I think its gotta be:
Whatever This Is Between Us (Endverse SPN)
or
Pheromones (Good Omens)
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Now this one is problematic, how am I supposed to chose just one??? I specialise in happy endings XD Ummm, lets see...possibly...
The Umbrella (Good Omens)
or
The One That Got Away (TOS Star Trek)
or
Good News (DBH)
7. Do you get hate on fics?
Not often, but yes, I just delete the comment cause they're not worth my time.
8. Do you write smut?
Soooo much smut
9. Craziest crossover?
Hahahahahaha XD I love this question, not only is it my craziest crossover, its just my craziest fic in general XD
Convergence
Just imagine some crazy person (this bitch) decided to write a fic for all of their ships (up to that date), they all meet up and work together, and there's a lot of smut, and hot damn, there's even a plot.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Two that I'm aware of :D

14. What’s a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
A Destiel AU with cook!Dean and office job!Cas
15. What are your writing strengths?
Dialogue I think, and fluff. And I think I can usually get their voices pretty spot on fairly quickly usually.
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
Details, I have to really think about putting in details. And I write quite slow.
17. Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
Love it as long as a translation happens either within the fic, or in the author's notes so I know what it says. I use the Vulcan language a fair bit in my Trek fics.
18. First fandom you wrote in?
Technically it was Harry Potter before I knew what fanfiction even was. But it was Supernatural when I knew it was fanfiction I was writing, and it was the first fandom I posted fic for. My first fic: Acceptance (Supernatural)
19. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Oh boi this is a tough one...heres a couple of my favs...
An Artist and His Muse (Good Omens)
Something Special (Staged)

Note
for the fanfic asks: 5, 23, 28!!
from this list
5. Quote one of your fics out of context
"This...I admit," he said, "I have longed for since first I met you." --Sarek to Amanda, The Logical Thing
23. Where do you usually write?
Either at my desk or in bed, on my laptop, in Microsoft's Notepad. No exceptions. It must be Notepad. And I do all my html for AO3 manually. This, I have found, is the only way to get formatting correct the first time. It also forces me to spell things correctly (although with Windows 11, Notepad does now fix a few typos automatically which is annoying but at least it's not as bad as I've heard Google Docs is, but I digress...). Yes yes, Notepad is the only way. In a small vertically rectangular window that takes up a very small portion of the screen, 4 1/2" x 6" precisely. And...on the rare occasion I'm out of the house and can write (usually I'm out for busy purposes so not writing) I'll write to myself in either an email or messenger app so that when I get back on the laptop, it's right there for me to copy-paste and reformat in my beloved Notepad. Plain text foreverrrr!
28. Which fic is closest to your heart?
Ohhhh boy... I have approximately 324 published fanfics (published under two usernames, and counting individual fics in anthology collections much like @blackbloodteeth's Ramble Room) and I know I have over 300 WIPs and unpublished fics as well, some in the 50K+ word count range. I did not look at all of them when considering this question, but there were some I went to automatically. I'll give one honorable mention, and then the one that I thought of first. Honorable mention because I'm just so proud of what I did, is a fic called The Letter (BBC Sherlock). This fic was written to address what immediately became a fandom trope - John's letter to Sherlock after Mary's death, the contents of which we never learn. So the story is ultimately about that, but it isn't revealed until the end. Instead it's a series of flashbacks from John's POV of events in their lives about their relationship, how it developed and grew, with Sherlock using music to tell John how he feels about him. I have audio links embedded in the fic, timed as well as I could to an average reading speed so that you're hearing something as a character comments about it. The story has humor, angst, love...everything. And I am so, so, so proud of my work on this. I even studied how to waltz for weeks because I wrote about Sherlock teaching John (another fandom trope) and I have to do things correctly, so....I had to learn first before I could write it. So yeah... This one is extremely dear to me and would be in my list of top recommended fics if I wanted people to read my work. I have a very great many stories I'm proud of, many that I just enjoy reading for their own sake because I find them that good/they scratch that particular itch just right for me (after all, don't we write for ourselves?). But ultimately, the story that first came to mind and stayed there as I scanned through the rest of my fics is.... The Logical Thing (Star Trek, Sarek/Amanda). I think my first, legitimate, serious romantic ship in any fandom is Sarek/Amanda. I don't know why either. Perhaps because of their obvious importance in Spock's life, because of their embodiment of IDIC (the Vulcan philosophy of Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations) by being a human/vulcan couple, and supposedly the first interspecies couple for either species (or at least the first we know about*), the challenges their relationship must have faced, the challenges they must have had raising a bi-species son... And Spock being one of my all-time favorite characters too... Yeah. I dunno. But something about those two has always called to me, and I've been desperate, desperate, desperate to tell their story. Which is the plot of a massive unfinished fic I started posting (forgive meeeeeeeeeeee I will return I promise) and the subject of so many WIPs.... So many WIPs.... But anyway, that's not the question. I needed to write them getting together finally. The Logical Thing is simply, Sarek entering pon farr and well...if you know vulcan biology, it's mate or die. But vulcans are also extremely private about intimacy and they are fiercely monogamous, and Sarek is a widower. So what is he to do? Well, then there's Amanda, with whom he has become friends over the past two years and who is secretly in love with him though she tells herself she's trying not to be... And this story is what happens next. I should clarify, no, there is nothing nsfw in the story. It's their relationship that called to me, and that's what I wrote, and what I will continue to write... I love, love, love all the headcanons I've developed for these two. Star Trek will always be the fandom of my heart, and I do think, ultimately, out of my many hundreds of fics, this one is closest to my heart.
Thank you sooooooooooo much for the ask and for allowing me a chance to talk about these things!

The Buffy Re-watch: S2E6 (part 2)
Halloween
Buffy looks good in her costume, as does Willow.
Correct reaction Xander on both counts.
Cordy is confusing, Oz thinks so too.
Who gives toothbrushes to kids on Halloween? And how many did they buy to be able to give out to kids? Like did they buy a few shop's stock of them? Are they dentists so they are able to get them in bulk, if that's a thing? Just get candy, it would be easier and cheaper.
What was the point of Ethan's plan? Just complete chaos with no actual goal? Just doing it for shits and giggles. Not judging, just curious.
Willow is a ghosty, Xander is an army man, and Buffy is an 18th century noble woman. This is going to be fun.
To someone from the 18th century a car would seem like a demon. Sort of reminds me of the Star Trek: TNG episode where Picard had to convince a group of proto Vulcans that he wasn't a god. Specifically, the conversation he has with one of the villagers about how technology has advanced and how it might appear to others from the past. To an 18th century woman, a car could be seen as something horrible and evil because she can not comprehend the technology, just like in Star trek where Picard was believed to be a god because his crew saved someone's life. Does that make sense? Because it does to me, but I know that not everyone might follow what I'm saying.
And after only a few seconds of 18th century Buffy, Willow is already done with her shit.
'Who died and made her the boss?' Well, Willow technically died and since she was the only one who remembered her own name when she got turned into a ghosty, she got to be the boss.
Spike loves the chaos.
Has Giles been oblivious to the chaos this whole time?
Cordelia is good at recaps, Very succinct. Hey maybe she should do the intro recaps.
How and when did someone get in to the Summer's house basement? That made no sense to me. They just hide in there until someone happened to be around for them to come out and kill them? I know it's a fantasy, horror show, but come on. Because there's no way Angel would have left the door open when he walked in and he would never have let anyone follow him in. And before Angel got there, they locked the place down. So, someone give me a realistic answer to this, please. I'm struggling for one.
Giles is curious as to how Willow's costume makes her a ghosty. It's a fair question since he probably never saw her before the trick or treating started.
Giles goes quite at the name Ethan. He has good reasons to.
Spike rounding up mini demons to hunt Buffy.
Larry the Pirate from earlier is now an actual gross pirate.
Janus- the Roman God with 2 faces. In season 1 episode 3 of Sherlock, this particular god was used as the name of the hire car company that Sherlock and John investigate.
'Hello Ripper.' Damn, Giles has a dark past we don't know about. We'll find out in 2 episodes time.
Xander gets revenge on Larry the Pirate. Okay, but still needs to work on his issue of feeling inadequate.
Cordy still doesn't believe hat Angel is a vampire?
Angel just picks up Buffy, sweet.
Giles has been hiding a lot of himself from Buffy and friends.
Spike, if you're going to kill someone do it quickly, because at any second the tables could turn and you will get your ass handed to you.
'Hi honey, I'm home.' See, I get that you want to savour the moment but if your goal is to kill someone, don't talk, just do. Think of all the heroes who would have died if the villains didn't monologue. But also slight parallel here as Spike will being saying this to Buffy in season 7 episode 21.
Ethan disappears and Spike knows when to get the hell out of Dodge. Self preservation skills.
I like that after this entire night Willow feels confident to wear her outfit without the ghosty costume. It's a great look for her and Oz likes it too. It's the second time he notices her.
Angel hated women from his time. We could have saved so much trouble if we knew this earlier. The scene between Angel and Buffy is cute, I won't deny that. And Buffy is just as pretty in a tank top and sweatpants as she was in her costume.
Ethan is gone for now, but the look on Giles' face, damn that's dark. He really doesn't want people finding out about his past. I mean, you really wouldn't want anyone to find out if your secret was as bad as his is. Which we will find out about in 2 episodes time. I seriously thought that gap between these was bigger for some reason.
Okay, that's it for this episode. Tomorrow, Buffy has an unexpected visitor with some shady shit going on.

tng night SIGH number four. tonight's eps were uhhh [checks] "lonely among us" and "justice." verdict: idk, i kept getting bored and looking at my phone
"lonely among us" was about a little electric thing that kept hopping bodies. this was initially kind of fun, if stupid, because it seemed SO OBVIOUS that crusher should report missing time right away and she just didn't lol
i do like that deanna finally got something to do (hypnotizing them) but it just made me remember that in tos they werent allowed to do that and this hypnotism could have been an email (vulcan mind meld). i'll get there. i just miss him.
the aliens who wanted to eat live animals were like. unfunny. especially when menacing tasha yar. idk, she always looks incredibly tense and it's starting to make me feel bad for her. she seems to hate everything. poor ms whoever is playing her
data's bit with the sherlock pipe was kinda cringe but i love him anyway. i was VERY mad when picard told him to knock it off. you're stopping him from stimming!!! leave him alone!!! also, in the next episode, he got onto him about babbling and watching data shut down in response was SOOO sad jail for picard for ONE THOUSAND YEARS im glad his ass apologized
unfortunately during the middle of the pipe thing is when i found out about the loz movie via destiel meme (ep was boring i was looking at my phone sorry) so i ruined the best part of the episode for myself
i am coming to understand that generally speaking data is the best part of any given tng episode <3
there was a moment in this episode where wesley was once again right and told to buzz off. in the next episode he does something stupid and they spend the entire time defending him. i DONT understand why it always has to be like this. i don't even dislike wesley, i just dislike the way the other characters are written is reponse to him. he's like the theo teenwolf of tng (dont get me started)
big moment in this ep was the potential mutiny. once again it's too early for this shit. i wanted some episodes where they explore planets and fight some guys (like the ferengi ep!) before we did anything deep. i bet if this happened in like seasons 3-5 i'd be beside myself about it the way i was when it almost happened in tos. but i don't like some of these guys yet, let alone care deeply about them (except data, who is my best friend).
next ep: The Sex Planet. once again, it is inappropriate to be having children on a starship, but it is especially inappropriate to send your fifteen year old """honorary""" """""ensign"""""" down to a planet that you don't know anything about except how they LOVE to fuck. the greeting party literally didn't even know what to do with him if they couldn't feel him up. he had to explain in 1987 hays code that he was a fucking virgin. maybe some research besides "they love to fuck here" would have helped with this situation but also "let's not send the 15yo to the brothel planet" would be a good line of thought too???
anyway he breaks the law has to die and theyre twisting themselves into knots over the prime directive and the setup was ACTUALLY almost interesting except they just beamed away with him in the end without finding a third option, which they could have done like 20 minutes in. also, if theyre trying not to break the prime directive, why are they allowed to tell the aliens they're from space and beam one aboard their ship? like, i actually love ethical questions posed by the prime directive, so this episode is cool on paper, but the execution flopped
oh i nearly forgot worf was bragging about his prowess in bed and how he was too much for weak human partners and riker looked SO intrigued which was like the funniest fucking thing. good for both of them. also it was androidphobia that they didn't let data go to that planet to get laid
anyway, as of now, i have been OFFICIALLY DITCHED. catherine maulthots has decided to let me do s1 and s2 of tng on my OWN and then show her the relevant ones so it's time to watch this shit on 2x speed until i hit the good parts
