i mentioned a while ago making a rotai au but i haven’t read rotai in like forever and the idea is still half baked so i’m just gonna throw out everything i have so far and either come up with more ideas bit by bit or take suggestions if u guys have any !! sorry for inactivity in the mc/mcd community btw social anxiety’s been beating my ass lmao

SO. au time. everything in the very beginning of the book is the same, but when archie gets to the top of that weird mountain and finds the orb he’s like “oh those are terrible vibes no thanks” and just Leaves (once the spiders are gone ofc). yes i did just make up this whole au bc i thought it would be funny how can u tell. anyways, no longer having a tribe, he just kinda runs off into the woods and does his own thing. we love a foraging king. also strong independent archie supremacy (i’ve always headcanoned him as an adult and a pretty competent one at that, just wanna play around w/ the idea of him being left alone for once). does he have funky animal friends? what weapons does he use? has he figured out agriculture? who knows! certainly not i

someone else gets the orb. is it thord, is a walda, is it goddamn karl, i have no idea. either way bad things happen and must be stopped but archie doesn’t really care he’s just chilling

at some point this random hero comes across him and, being the weirdo she is, is like “oh look. a lone illager. youre my friend now :)”. if anyone remembers me posting violet in the discord server this is her BUT i wanna change her name bc there’s already a lot of cool canon and fanon characters w/ v names and i don’t wanna like. copy anyone lmao. anyways she’s like “surely u have to be lonely out here :(“ and he’s like “no actually i’m pretty alright” and she’s like “nah. we’re leaving :)” and that’s that. he does go back to his weird little treehouse or whatever eventually i just like the idea of him getting dragged around against his will to help fight against evil or whatever LMAO. definitely the most helpful of the protags here in terms of combat skills (again. competent archie supremacy. they never said he was bad at fighting he just didn’t like it), but the whole time he’s just like “yes i am going to teach you how to use a sword and yes i am going to hate every second of it. die” (they are besties)

third protag is yumi bc i like her. hero drags archie to the closest village she can find, archie nearly gets sent into the stratosphere by an iron golem, and yumi comes out like “sorry broski my bad lol”. somehow she ends up agreeing to help them idk why i haven’t thought abt it that much (she is insanely difficult for me to write i still do not even have a consistent design for her). “isn’t violence against, like, villager code or whatever?” “well, technically, I’M not the one doing the violence-” *gestures vaguely to army of iron golems*

anyways that’s pretty much it. world’s bravest villager, illager who Does Not Want To Be Here, and a hero who has no clue what she’s doing, bless her soul

if anyone has suggestions lemme know lol. also i wanna make it more fantasy-ish bc i love fantasy so dw abt sticking to canon worldbuilding. this is all for funsies i have zero prior storytelling experience lmao

Two things: 1. I have no idea why I drew Walda and Yumi as "friends", but let's just say it's because they form the "girl squad" of the game.

2. Yes, the upper one is the weirdest drawing of Archie you'll ever see. (And the ink of my pen ruined his right eye. Crap.)

YOU ARE AN ASSHOLE! I miss you bud I’ll admit but when u were alive MY GOD there was so much room for improvement for you but you didn’t do shit! Also, Just to get to the point, U are ✨SHADY✨ Mf! Like- You got Archie banished! And for what reason? Because you Didn’t wanna take responsibility for the loss of your Patrol party or what ever other reason? Archie was right When he was talking with Walda! Making the point that As the leader of the Patrol party The burden of the loss should be Put on YOU as the leader for not taking Better Precautions! (If that’s the right word to use here of course) So blaming Archie was VERY uncalled for, So ur line of: “I gave Archie that job” When he mentioned Looking out for things is total Bs.

i feel like a lot of fanartists/writers for mcd present archie as a scared innocent kid and while any interpretation of his character is fine w/ me i feel like i should bring up a few quotes/aspects of his character from rotai just to point out that he’s a bit more complicated than that

• he’s been confirmed to be an adult (a young one, granted, but still an adult) and was essentially drafted into the military | “You knew [the raid] was going to go wrong.”/“And when it did, you knew you were going to need a scapegoat. That’s why you chose me.” - archie, page 23

• even though the book directly states that he didn’t like fighting (“Archie hated fighting and would have done anything to get out of being part of that patrol if he could have managed it.” - page 23) that doesn’t mean he was morally against it, he was just bad at it. i do think yumi put some sense into him, but he wasn’t raised to be a good person in any sense of the word. | “Did you ever take part in any of [the raids]?”/“Only the ones I was forced to - but yes.”/“Did you ever hurt anyone?”/“Not for lack of trying, but I was fortunately awful at it.” - conversation between yumi & archie, page 52

• even though he does get scared when presented with an actual threat, he is absolutely not a coward and will say or do just about anything when it comes to interacting with people. take one of the earlier scenes for example, when he and thord return from the mansion - keep in mind, both thord and walda are much bigger and stronger than he is physically, as well as infinitely above him in class. even if thord was injured and archie was upset, it’d still take quite a bit of sheer audacity to attack thord in front of literally everyone, especially their leader. | “I cannot prove or disprove that [thord is lying]. But the manner in which you attacked him in front of the rest of the tribe... The way you kicked a wounded Illager nearly to death...”/“He was already halfway there!” - interaction between walda & archie, page 27 | he also like punched salah or smth that one time. basically tiny man gets angy and attempts murder, he’s not just automatically scared of everyone bigger and/or stronger than him

• i have less citation for this one, it’s more of an inference, but i’m including it bc i think u could make a fairly strong argument for it - archie is incredibly manipulative. i don’t mean that as a slight on his character or anything, it’s kind of just a fact. considering how violent the society he grew up in was, i think “...a sword was useless to him. All he had was words,” (page 15) sort of implies that he’s a bit of an expert on worming his way out of sticky situations. it’s also not like the orb just casually granted him the power to talk every illager leader in the region to join his weird empire thing, either - every trait he has while under the influence of the orb was something he already had, just corrupted to fit the role the orb needed him to fill. he’s not manipulative in the way that people we see as standard manipulators are, but it’s definitely a trait that’s there and that he, without the orb’s influence, could have (and occasionally did) use to his advantage.

i’m still working on rereading the book & adding character notes (which is why all of the quotes are closer to the beginning of the book than anything else), so maybe i’ll have more to add later, but these are just some things to consider
