I brought my clothes upstairs with intent to put them away but then decided I really do just want to play viddy games, dammit, so I found all my ds and 3ds games and then spent a full half hour looking for my 3ds charger. found it, but found a lot of other cool things first, which is probably why it took so long. but I really do need to set up a trinket/toy/plushie side log because I have. so many cool little things

After googling “what to take to a stranger’s birthday party” and reading the top five articles thoroughly, the first two more than once, Castiel has determined that he should either bring candles, wine, or baked goods.
A candle seems like a good, safe option, but the Walmart candle aisle is overwhelming. How is he supposed to know if Anna’s-friend-Dean likes oaky, woodsy smells versus lavender-linen smells? Castiel likes the one that smells like a waxy apple pie, but who’s to say that opinion is shared? What if he prefers pine, or something called Deep Twilight Mist? Castiel removes the lid for Deep Twilight Mist and smells the cream-colored wax curiously. It smells like the perfume Hael used to spray everywhere when she was eleven. He puts it back on the shelf.
There’s a candle that smells like cupcakes. It is a birthday party, so perhaps he would like that. Castiel puts it in the blue plastic basket dangling from his arm, then puts it back on the shelf, tilting it so the label is facing perfectly outward. Maybe Anna’s-friend-Dean doesn’t like candles at all.
Wine. Everyone likes wine. Well, unless Anna’s-friend-Dean is one of those guys who thinks wine is too feminine. Or if he doesn’t drink at all. Or if he drinks too much. Or, perhaps even worse, if he’s some kind of wine connoisseur and will mock Castiel for buying reasonably-priced wine from Walmart and then blacklist Castiel so thoroughly that he will never find a friend in this town.
Wine and candles are too complex. But everyone likes baked goods.
Castiel is stopped in the middle of the road, turn signal blinking to indicate that he would like to turn left into his apartment complex, when he realizes that Anna’s-friend-Dean could be diabetic. But the party is at a restaurant that specializes in hamburgers, so probably not. Hopefully not. All Castiel has to do is successfully implement chocolate chip cookies and then melt into the walls at the party. Be pleasant enough company that next time someone has a large event they allow Anna to invite him again. Go to enough social functions that he can claim to have friends and get Anna off his back. Live quietly, working at the Gas-N-Sip and writing papers about the science of Theology and perhaps even going to the library and reading secular fiction.
Castiel has no expectations of finding actual friendship at Anna’s-friend-Dean’s birthday party. Or ever, really. If he ever gets lonely, he can get a cat.
Anna thinks that Castiel and Dean will get along very well. Castiel thinks that living outside of their mother’s influence has made Anna believe in fairytales. Anna has known Castiel his entire life. She knows full well that he has never gotten along very well with anyone.
Castiel cracks an egg over the batter. Maybe this whole baking thing will impress Anna so much that she’ll stop bothering him about making friends.
Who knows, maybe these cookies will unlock something else to add to Castiel’s quiet life. He quite likes the idea of baking.
--
The firefighter is very beautiful. Maybe even the most beautiful person Castiel has ever seen, besides models on the sides of buildings who look so perfect they’re fake.
“You the guy who started the fire?” the beautiful firefighter asks. He puts his hands in his pockets. Castiel’s cheeks burn. Not from any fire.
“They were just burnt cookies,” he says. “I didn’t know they would set off the smoke alarm.” In the entire building. The other firefighters are by the doors, writing things down, talking to other residents of Castiel’s building. How come the beautiful firefighter was the one who had to talk to Castiel? He sneaks a peek at the man’s arms, but they’re sadly covered by his coat.
“You burned the cookies on purpose, then?” the firefighter raises an eyebrow.
“Of course I didn’t,” Castiel says. The firefighter has green eyes and freckles splashed across his nose. Castiel wants him to take off his helmet so he can see what his hair looks like.
“Right,” the firefighter says.
“Am I in trouble?” Castiel asks.
“No,” the firefighter says. He winks. Castiel feels his heart literally skip a beat. “Not a crime to burn cookies. Losing out on the cookies is punishment enough.”
“They weren’t for me,” Castiel says. “They were for a birthday party. Tonight.” For some reason, he wants the firefighter to know that he has a social life. Never mind if the social life was enforced upon him by his older sister.
“A birthday party? Today? Who’s hosting? I gotta fight for my honor.”
Castiel is baffled. What honor? What fight?
“What?”
“Everyone will come,” the firefighter says. He makes a pose, as if he’s flexing. “To see me and this other guy fight to see who’s the Supreme Birthday Boy.” He stretches one arm out, pointing it to the sky, then he opens his fist. “Pow! It’ll be me, of course.” He turns to look back at Castiel. His mouth is very pink. Castiel wishes he understood what words were coming out of it.
“It’s my birthday, too,” the firefighter says after a moment, when Castiel doesn’t react.
“Oh,” Castiel says. “Why didn’t you just say that?”
“I dunno. Trying to be funny, I guess.”
“Oh,” Castiel says again. Behind the firefighter, he sees that the other residents of his apartment building are filing back inside. For some reason, despite the January chill, Castiel doesn’t want to go back in. Not yet.
“You know, usually this is the part where people say happy birthday,” the firefighter says.
“Happy birthday,” Castiel repeats.
“Thanks!” the firefighter beams. “So do you think I should crash your friend’s party tonight?”
“No,” Castiel says, alarmed at the thought. A firefighter, and probably a bunch of other firefighters, crashing Castiel’s opportunity to stand beside the wall, holding a cup of sprite? When Castiel shows up with store-bought baked goods? And this beautiful firefighter will point right at him and say that Castiel invited them and then Anna’s-friend-Dean will hate him forever, and probably Anna will too? “Also, he’s not my friend.”
“He’s not? Then why are you going to his party?”
“He’s my sister’s friend,” Castiel explains. “I’ve never met him. She thinks I need to leave the house more.” Too late, Castiel remembers that he was supposed to pretend he had a flourishing social life. Oops.
“Wait,” the firefighter says. His eyes sparkle. “Are you Anna’s brother? Cas-something?”
“Castiel,” he says, with the patience of someone who has had to explain his name a million times. He narrows his eyes. “How did you know that?”
“Dude,” the firefighter says, laughing. “I’m Dean.”
Anna’s-friend-Dean is a beautiful firefighter, with green eyes and freckles? Anna’s-friend-Dean is the Supreme Birthday Boy? Anna’s-friend-Dean probably has very muscular arms, under his uniform?
“Oh,” Castiel says. “Nice to meet you.”
“Nice to meet you too,” the firefighter says.
“Winchester! Wrap it up!” one of the firemen calls from the truck. Castiel realizes that all the firefighters are about to leave, and everyone from his building is already back inside. When did that happen?
“Be there in a minute!” Dean hollers over his shoulder. When he looks back at Castiel, he grins almost shyly. “You were gonna make me cookies?”
“Yes, I--I thought it would be an appropriate thing to bring.” Castiel wonders again if Dean could be diabetic. Or perhaps allergic to something in chocolate chip cookies. Are chocolate chips made in a peanut-free facility? Maybe Castiel should’ve bought wine, after all.
“Hell yeah,” Dean says. “Whoever said that the way to a man’s heart was through his stomach was dead-fuckin’-on. But, uh.”
“But?” Castiel is sure, suddenly, that Dean is about to reject him and tell him not to come to his birthday party after all. Which would be a shame, because all of a sudden Castiel wanted to go.
“My favorite dessert is pie,” Dean says like a confession.
“Oh,” Castiel says, eyes widening. Maybe he can swing by the bakery--maybe he can look up a bakery, and then swing by it--on the way to the party. Assuming he’s still going.
“And, uh, not to toot my own horn, but I make a pretty mean one. I actually made myself a birthday pie, and I was gonna eat it alone, but maybe…I mean…”
“Yes?” Castiel asks. Dean is slightly taller than him, so he tilts his head back to meet his eyes. Dean swallows. Castiel watches his adam’s apple bob.
“Well, I could swing by after my shift is done,” Dean says. “Bring it with me. We could share. Before we go to the Roadhouse, I mean. If you want.”
“I want,” Castiel says before he can think about it. He snaps his mouth shut. Dean brightens.
“Great,” he says. “I’ll be back. After my shift.”
“When does it end?” Castiel asks. Dean looks at his watch. He grins at Castiel, tongue poking between his teeth.
“Twenty minutes,” he says.
“Okay,” Castiel says. “I will you soon, then.”
“Yep,” Dean says. “Gimme about an hour, okay? And then we’ll have pie.”
“Okay,” Castiel says. Dean turns to head back to the firetruck. “What kind of pie?” Cas calls after him. Dean turns.
“Apple!” he calls. Castiel stands outside, in the January chill without his coat, for a long while after the truck leaves. What a strange man, making his own birthday pie. What a lovely man, sharing it with a stranger. Supreme Birthday Boy, indeed.
--
When Dean returns, in a soft flannel shirt with sleeves rolled up, revealing his magnificent forearms, his hair a spiky mess that Castiel wants to run his fingers through, he has, as promised, an apple pie. And Castiel has a present for him.
When Dean opens it, he laughs until he almost cries. He lights it right away, and the lingering aroma of burnt chocolate chip cookies is chased away by the apple pie candle from Walmart, a bright, steady little flame flickering between them.

Some creative gift ideas for all the uncreative people out there who are sick of giving basic ass gifts (budget friendly)
- Go to the store. Find your way to the candle aisle. Now what you’re gonna do is smell candles until you find one that has a smell that reminds you of the person you’re gifting for. Buy it. When you get home, get out your computer and get on canva. Make a custom label with the person’s name on it, the fragrance notes, and a short, sweet description of that person and why those smells remind you of them. Then print it out and make it into a sticker (you can easily make a sticker with large clear tape over the print, just look up DIY stickers). Take off the original label and put the hand made sticker on instead. If you want, you could even make a candle out of wax melts, a mason jar, and some wicks if you feel like it.
- If you are good with crafts, USE THOSE TO YOUR ADVANTAGE.
-If you can knit or crochet, make a blanket, scarf, a pair of mittens, or a stuffed animal.
- Take a picture frame. Get a printed picture of you and the person. Press flowers (if you’re lazy, you can literally press flowers in the microwave in less than two minutes. Look it up.). Arrange the flowers and picture in the frame how you want (be sure to wear gloves and clean the glass first! You dont want there to be eternal fingerprints on the glass!) and grab the tacky glue. Gently apply a small dab of tacky glue to each flower and glue it firmly in place. Do the same with the picture. Close up the frame, wrap, and you are GOLDEN.
- Go to the store. Grab a travel cup or mug (or go to the person’s favorite coffee shop and buy a travel mug there). Go to the candy aisle. Grab a bag of their favorite candy, along with two king sized candy bars, and any other little knickknacks you think they might like. Put it all in the cup and put on the lid.
- Grab a box. Figure out the person’s favorite color. Go to Dollar Tree, Five Below, Walmart, Target, wherever you want. Just find things in that person’s favorite color. Socks, gloves, candy, drinks, accessories, gift cards, candles, soaps, anything. Grab some easter basket filler paper (idk what it’s actually called) in that color (or if it doesn’t come in that color, do black or white. Those will do.) and some construction paper in that color. Now, add the filler paper, then the knickknacks, then glue or tape the construction paper to the inside of the cardboard lid. Write a note if you want. Wrap it up and you are good to go.
-Make jewelry. Trust me. All you need is a chain, a clasp, some charms/beads, and a pair of pliers. The rest is kind of self explanatory but if you don’t understand this explanation for some reason feel free to ask.
- Put together a small thrifted surprise box for the person (wash the clothes first though and make sure they’re okay with that sort of thing!)
- Make something out of clay. Jewelry, room decor, etc.
- Go find one of those letter cutout boxes with the letter of their first initial. Find fake flowers in their favorite color (you can probably find this at dollar tree), then go find a bunch of small knickknacks like jewelry, candy, soaps, etc. Grab floral foam. Fill the letter box with floral foam (if you want, spray paint the box first) Stab the flowers into the floral foam. Grab kabob sticks, cut to desired length. Tape the knickknacks to the kabob sticks and stab them into the floral foam like you did the flowers.
- Go to a thrift store. First go to the basket section. Find a picnic basket. Then go find some teacups, a small charcuterie board, pretty plates, and maybe some pretty silverware (or if you think it would be weird to do silverware from a thrift store, grab it from walmart or target or smth) If you’re an adult, go ahead and find a wine glass or two. After that, you want to go to Walmart. Find a picnic blanket, or a picnic table cloth. If you get the picnic table cloth and have ametuer sewing skills, grab two. Then grab some of the person’s favorite snacks and drinks. Go home and put it all together in the basket. If you chose to grab two table cloths so you can sew, measure the interior of the picnic basket and (assuming it’s square) cut out the dimensions on one of the table cloths and sew them together into a “box” (pattern facing the inside of the box, fuzzy part outside) and put the “box” inside the picnic basket. Now it has a cute, protective interior inside, and the other tablecloth can be used as a picnic blanket. Once its all arranged, you have made a cute picnic set for the person!
- Find a book you like, reread it, and annotate it for them. Then wrap it up. Typically you want a new book for this.
- Go to a craft store. Buy a baseball cap or a cute hat with nothing on it, or if you want, grab a tote bag or something. Grab fabric paint. Custom paint the item for the person.

Hey Witchy & Candle Peeps,
What are your favorite (cheap) wax melts? I do occasionally make my own, but prefer having a bought stash. I am almost through the Walmart brand (don't judge me), Mainstays, that my mom bought me in clearance bulk almost 2 years ago.
Our favorite scents are: citrus, mixed berries, cranberries, cherry, apples, cinnamon, mint, leather, woodsy & light or punchy florals (not overly musky or sweet). We don't care for fresh linen or vanilla scents.
I made a citrus & berry blend with the wax melts I have left & added a bit of peppermint extract.

Not to promote capitalism but my Walmart had a bunch of wax melts and candles on clearance this week after the holidays and sometimes an olifactory change helps the brain goo.

Below the cut are links to some of my favorite cross stitch supplies.
I'm not getting kick backs or anything for the links below, I just wanted to share what I use with everyone.
Storage
Storage: Plano 23700-20 Stowaway with Adjustable Dividers
Floss Drop Bobbins: Ultimate Bobbin Drops by GWStitchinDepot on Etsy
Floss Reel by CreativeKeepsStudio on Etsy - used to cut precut my floss in equal lengths to use with my floss drops.
My fav bobbins (above) are on the expensive side, but I do have some cheaper ones I use as well.
White Plastic Bobbins
Clear Floss Drops
White Paper DMC Bobbins
For projects, I also have colorful floss organizers so I don't have to have a bunch of bobbins out.
Labeling
I'm a label nerd so I've made all my own labels and printed them on Vinyl sticker paper, but there are ready made labels you can find.
DMC Labels
Scissors
Embroidery scissors - I highly recommend buying a pair meant for embroidery because they tend to have a sharper, thinner tip. You can use a seam ripper to undo errant stitches, but I find embroidery scissors work better for that. You can get these anywhere, I got my latest pair through amazon.
Fabric Prep
Zig Zag Craft scissors - they say that cutting aid with a pair of zig zag scissors keeps it from unraveling... and I have experienced that, however, I also find that it still sheds, just teeny, tiny pieces. I got mine through amazon.
Nylon Upholstery Thread - this is my preferred thread for whip stitching the edge of my aida. I fold the edge of my fabric in two or three rows and then use the whip stitch to go around the edge of the whole project to keep the edges from fraying. I currently use navy blue because that's what I have, but there are multiple colors to choose from.
Gridding
Sulky Metallic Thread - the thread I use to do the gridding on my projects. You can find it on Amazon, but their website allows you to use Amazon Pay and you get a wider selection and better pricing ordering through them directly.
Aida
Plain white Aida - Walmart usually has the best price, but be aware that sometimes that comes with a cost in the form of rectangles instead of squares
Amazon - they have some WILD multicolored Aida for reasonable prices.
Mill Hill - they have a perforated PAPER for cross stitching and I was skeptical at first… but after using it… I love it! And it doesn’t hurt my hands like the plastic Aida I used to use. You can get this product on Amazon and on Everything Cross Stitch.
Wax/Thread Conditioner
Premade Beeswax Rounds in Plastic Containers - I used to use these all the time because it helped with knotting and my thread fraying... but they kept getting soooo expensive.
Now I just buy beeswax. Originally, I bought bars but I found them too hard to cut.
So I melted them down and make my own cubes that I can remelt, remove any thread bits and reuse.
Beeswax - the bars I bought are no longer available, but you can really use anything.
Square molds - I ended up cutting mine into smaller sections because it was easier to handle.
Silicone Measuring Cup - the first time I did this, I melted the wax in a candle making container... but now I just melt them in this on a cheap candle warmer and it works perfectly.
Beading
Bead Storage - this has become more important with me doing Mill Hill designs.
Bead trays - these are meant for diamond painting, but they work great for beads.
Misc
Stitch Starter by Blue Ribbon Designs on Etsy - 3” square ruler to help you find the perfect place for your first stitch
Cross Stitch Gauge by SnugglyMonkey on Etsy - basically a ruler to help you with determine which size Aida you are working on
DMC Thread Color Card - you can get this as multiple places. Most have the printed version, but if you can get (or make) the one that has the actual thread samples… I highly recommend.
Telescoping Magnet - a must for finding needles that fall on the floor. It will happen. Protect your feet.
Silicone Finger Protector - I originally got these for using hot glue, but I found that I use them more for cross stitching. I did end up cutting one so it just covers the my finger to the first knuckle, otherwise I find my fingers get too sweaty.

What kind of wish list do you have? That'd be a great idea for me but I'm not sure how to organise one.
Oh I have several systems I use to make this time of the year less of a nightmare, I'd love to share! Unfortunately I do not have a "succinct" setting so here, sorry :) here's the short version, too much under the cut.
TL;DR: Steps to an easy gift list:
1, REUSE your lists each year.
1b, LONG LISTS! Yeah no. Longer than that.
2, Categories can help
2b, Steal gift ideas from others!!
3, for REAL change your options up
4, Be specific about what you actually want
Wishlists were a pain for me for a long time. Eventually I got lazy and then I got smart. I also listened to complaints people had about others' wishlists, and tried to avoid their issues. I've used like one list for I think the last 4 years now, just refreshed. I have it in categories mostly to help me.
Tip 1: Refresh it every year. Instead of starting from scratch every season, when people start asking for my new list I just pull up last year's and delete everything I received/bought myself/just don't really need anymore.
Tip 1b: Make your list long!! Too long to be able to get everything. That lets you refresh next year, but it also gives people more options to choose from (vital) and reduces their anxiety about getting you the same thing as someone else.
Tip 2: This is optional but I use categories. They help me get more specific ideas, organize my thoughts, can help people narrow ideas down or help with off-list gift inspiration, and can also help people add to their own lists.
**Categories: these are arbitrary and all include miscellaneous items automatically. It's just a tool. Mine are Dog Things, Hobby, Home/Personal, and Kitchen - the dog things are on their own because they don't fit anywhere else; 'Kitchen' has its own category because it's one of my biggest categories personally. Other than that, personalize it: Art Supplies. Programming. Sports & Outdoors. Tools. Books. Games. Whatever's good for you**
Tip 2b: ask all your family/friends to give you their list and then steal their ideas :) works like a charm. I'll add some of mine at the end.
Tip 3: VARIETY. IT'S IMPORTANT. Some people want to be able to drop a lot of money on something you'll definitely like - maybe all your siblings want to buy you that gaming system together. Include it (at least for inspiration). Ask for that weighted blanket you really want. Don't feel bad for including expensive options. Some people want less expensive things - you want a LOT of these, especially easy ones: candy or treats, bath bombs/nails/face masks, candles/wax melts/incense you like, stickers, fun note pads, socks etc. (When gifting, these are helpful to add with a smaller item so it brings a little extra bonus.)
Some people want to buy you something useful. Some people want to buy you something FUN! Some people want to help you by buying something you need anyway; some want to gift you something you can't justify buying yourself but still really want. Include all of these! Give people options!!
TELL PEOPLE WHERE TO GET GIFT CARDS YOU'LL ACTUALLY USE!!! These are such a helpful inclusion!!! Some people are just gift card people. If you don't want generic amaz*n/walmart/fast food gift cards, TELL PEOPLE what stores & restaurants you already go to, especially for things you enjoy. If they can give you 5 nice boba teas one one card, or gift you clothes by putting $50 on a piece of plastic for you instead of actually trying to pick out something you want themselves, they'll do it!
Tip 4: Specificity. Some things speak for themselves, but if you write one word per item on your list, expect to get some things that are technically what you wrote but definitely not what you wanted. To avoid this, list scents/colors/brands/qualities you like ('over-the-ear squishy headphones [noise-canceling?]' is better than 'headphones,' where once I got gifted a new pair of the exact set I hated and was trying to replace); the specific use of the item you need ('spice/food organizers,' 'room organizers,' 'closet organizers,' and several other things can't be substituted for each other); A LINK to an option you like (!!! I learned this from my sister-in-law, where every list item has "like this:" and a link to a model that she already likes. The links will also sho similar items, stores she trusts, more details than you could ever write down & more); okay I got tired of writing. You get the gist. BUT If you include CLOTHES YOU MUST INCLUDE SIZES. NO IFS ANDS OR BUTS. SIZES. Styles too if you don't wanna get fucked over (or!! gift cards!!!!)
Those are the things that do the most for making my life easier. I'll drop a list of examples to steal! Sorry this got away from me lol thanks for coming to my TEDtalk!!
Examples of things in my categories: Dog Stuff (toys she likes, sweater size, things like a better leash or big toy or bed); Hobby (DICE. game accessories. yarn & fibre tools. hair dye things, hard-to-find niche parts, nice markers/paper, art tools, materials, fan merch, new hobbies you want to try, instruction books, instruments, cards, GIFT CARDS to places I already go); Home/Personal (speakers/headphones/other tech, books [please god be specific here], albums, decor/organization, a new vacuum, tools you find yourself needing, stuff for your window/deck/garden, along with clothes I might want and relevant sizes, yoga mat, coats/hats/clothes for the weather, memberships or subscriptions); Kitchen (replacement dishes, nice appliances, accessories, high-quality ingredients, more tools I'd like but can't afford)

Hi! Hope you’re doing well. This is gonna sound like a really off the wall ask, but in BS:A Chapter 10, you mention as Ghost is going through Danny’s things that she smells the cologne he use to wear. Did you have a particular one in mind when you wrote that? Sorry if this is a weird ask. 😅 feel free to disregard. Hope you’re having an amazing day! 😊
Ohhhhhh good question.
I had to delve deep into the archive for this one and I found....Nothing. but BUT BUT I know for a fact I had one picked out for him. I'm 90% sure I just googled popular colognes and picked one at random BUT I did have one picked...that I now cannot find.
That being said, there is a scent I imagine as his even though it's not a real cologne and just a cologne-scented(?) wax melt. It's called Illusion you can find it in the candle aisle of Walmart or online HERE. Its scent notes include cedar, musk, and mYsTeRy. Which kinda sounds like Danny to me.
Is it the official one as mentioned in that chapter? No. But whenever I smell Illusion, it reminds me of Danny.

Found another “duplicate” Disneyland scent!
Do you love Haunted Mansion Holiday, or at least how it smells?  Do you have a Walmart near you that has candles on post-Christmas clearance?  Then go ahead and get yourself this candle:
Tumblr media
“Fresh Baked Cookies” from Walmart’s store brand Mainstays.  It smells VERY close (in my opinion, identical) to the gingerbread cake-bedecked ballroom at Haunted Mansion Holiday.  I found it for only $3.75 too, which is a lot less than most Disneyland copy scents will set you back. (Heck, even its pre-discount price of about $8 is less than most of those I’ve seen)
Also, if you use wax melt air fresheners instead, I posted before about the Test Track 1.0 scent dupe I also found at Walmart, Scentsationals “Take a Hike”.  It does NOT smell like hiking, but it DOES smell like the original version of Test Track.

Danny Fenton Football Captain and the East Coast Vampire CH 1
You can also read it on A03, FF.NET, and on Wattpad
Chapter One: The Trainwreck House
The house was at the end of a long driveway off the main road in old Amity Park. Giant oak trees lined each side of the pavement, following the black stripe till it reached the house. The giant oaks framed the faded brown roof and broken windows with their bold yellow fall leaves. Danny hopped off his old bike, and pushed it the rest of the way. The bike had served him since middle school and still bore the scars. Glitter dollar store NASA and astronaut stickers were stuck to its frame. Several had lost most of their color turning brown yellow or blue from the past summer suns. The sun of the present had its fading sunlight reflected off those stickers. Creating spectacles of rainbow on the ground that followed where his bike went.
The further we went, the quieter his surroundings got, the noise of the city was still there, but it sounded like it was from another room or another time. Then he came upon the house itself.  The house was a train wreck painted sickly yellow and left to die. The sunset set the broken windows ablaze with light scattering their reflections on the leaf covered ground below. Danny stuck his tongue out in disgust. The smell matched the building and he assumed it would give him a headache. The front door swung with the light breeze, each time emitting a loud creek. Danny winced, then he pulled out his phone and opened up the Discord App.
SpaceGhostDanny: I’m here. Where are you guys?
SayonaraPaulieCat: The girls and I are still getting ready! We will be there soon!
TouchDownHero: I lost the board.
ThisSunnyBoi: I’m almost there, I stopped by Nasty Burger for dinner. What do you mean you lost the board?
TouchDownHero: Look I put it on my bed and now it’s gone.
SayonaraPaulieCat: Not again!
SpaceGhostDanny: If Kwan is still in town he can get a new one from Walmart.
ThisSunnyBoi: Yeah!
TouchDownHero: No, a normal board won’t work. It has to be this vintage one I found!
SayonaraPaulieCat: Val says she is calling BS
SpaceGhostDanny: Hey Kwan if I pay you back later can you grab me a nasty double burger, extra secret nasty sauce, a milkshake and large fries.
ThisSunnyBoi: Sure!
SayonaraPaulieCat: Oh! Star wants a nasty kid’s meal with BBQ sauce and the girl’s toy and a coke, Val wants a triple nasty burger with fries, no drink. Can you get me large fries and sparkling water?
ThisSunnyBoi: Uh you have the money for this?
SayonaraPaulieCat: I just Venmo-ed you.
ThisSunnyBoi: Okay order is right up!
Kwan added a few wide mouth smile emoji’s after his message. Danny sighed, Dash was right. Kwan did text like a white mom. He shoved the phone into his Casper High letterman jacket and took another look at the puke house.
A chill shot up his spine as a woman stared back at him. Her skin was melting off her body like wax. The green skin dripped off her sharp chin and splashed onto his feet. But her eyes. They weren't there, instead they had been replaced with two small red flames, like someone had shoved candles into her eye sockets.
“H-hi h-how can I h-h-Elp you?” Danny took a step back but the woman grabbed his arm and yanked him closer. The lack of breath on his ear terrified him.
“Get out before HE sees you” Danny was sent flying back, his back crashing into his bike. He shoved himself up and threw his fist up, but the woman was gone. The only sign of her was his own breath escaping his lips in small puffs of smoke.
“I don’t know who you are Lady but this is supposed to be my night off,” There was no response. “Hey!” Danny called out louder. Wisp of green began to gather in his palm. He cautiously approaches the house, watching for any sign of movement in the leaves. Green vapors began to grow and swirl in his palms, as he moved towards the center of the driveway.
A sharp and cold wind whipped around him, blowing the golden leaves below him into a frenzy. Until he was in the center of a golden tornado. Splotches of black and red appeared between the holes of gold. The vapor in his palm sharpened into spikes of green energy. Each spike was hurled at the splotches, each one missing as she moved through the leaves. The house’s front door was swinging rapidly with the wind, creaking back and forth.
“Young Halfa,” she said. “Your life will be in great danger if he finds you, so acknowledge this threat and-” The wind was now a tornado, sucking the air out of its center, choking him. Then as suddenly as it came it stopped. Leaves fell around him as the woman stood in front of the house. “Leave,” Danny shot another energy spike at her. She tilted her head and the train wreck of the house took the abuse in her stead. “Please,” she begged.
“Who?” Danny gasped out, but the woman was gone. The front door slammed shut. The wind was gone completely now. Not even the leaves still on the trees moved around him.
Slowly getting up Danny brushed himself off, his red letterman jacket was thankfully unscathed. He looked at the door, then around him, and finally at the door again. It was closed, the horrible creaking from before was gone, but he had to know. So, he began to slowly approach it. Each step closer sent his nerves on edge. His breath was coming out in a long puff of smoke, and he could feel the goosebumps on his arm raise up like small mountains. His fingers brushed the frosty cold doorknob, shocking him. Forcing his arm forward again, the metal didn’t sting his fingers a second time, but the hair on his body rose with the wave of goosebumps.
“Hey Fenton! What are you doing? Trying to get a sneak peek?” Danny jumped, the green vapors became a mist around his hands. Ready to strike, he turned to see Kwan Seok walking up to him. Kwan's red ten-gear mountain bike was propped up next to Danny’s. Its metal basket was over filled with drinks and Nasty Burger bags.
“Kwan, we have to get out of here, “Danny jogged to his friend, hiding his hands in his coat pocket.
“What why? I just got here,” Kwan said.
“This place just doesn’t feel right”
“Well duh!” Kwan rolled his eyes.
“Hun?” Danny looked at his friend with a dumbfounded look.
“It’s an abandoned house from the 1800’s, of course it won’t feel right to you. You're not used to it, plus it's all run down and stuff, so it looks gross as well.”
“That’s- that’s not what I mean dude. I mean there is something wrong with this place.”
“What? Like a ghost?”
“Um, yeah?”
“This whole town is filled with ghost dude, plus isn’t that the reason we're here? To talk to the dead and stuff?” Kwan wasn’t wrong. Dash had invited them here to see if they could talk to the ghost of the old mansion.
“Okay, but I don’t think we are going to be talking to Casper the friendly ghost here. This thing might attack us or something.”
“Are you scared Fenton?”
“No!”
“Awww is our captain scared of a little ghost? Dude your parents are like crazy ghost hunters how can you be scared of a ghost?”
“I’m not scared dude.”
“Don’t worry. I know you're scared but dude, the Kwan-ster is here to protect you! Plus,” Kwan slapped his arm around Danny’s shoulder “if a ghost does start to cause trouble, we can just use Dash as a meat shield. This was his idea anyways” The two snickered at the mental image of their blond friend being held up like a shield.
“What are you guys laughing about?” Behind them arrived Valerie Gray and Star Morninglory. Yes, that is Star’s legal name. Her parents were new-age spiritualists in the 80’s but now all they do is smoke pot and worship Elon Musk from their three garage townhouse.
“We were talking about using Dash as a meat shield if anything goes wrong!” Kwan yelled out.
“Ooh that sounds like a great idea, count me in!” Star showed back.
“Count me in two.” Valerie jest. Star stood on the back of Valerie’s bike, her pink converse supported by two small bars on Valerie’s back wheels. Paulina Sanchez rode up behind them in a pink motorized scooter. Little pairs of pink pom-poms hung from her handlebars.
“Ooooh! I call using him as a meat shield first!” She yelled.
“No way, it was my idea first so Fenton and I get to use him first.”
“But you boys are already so strong and big. Shouldn’t you protect the ladies first?”
“What do you think Fenton?” Kwan asked.
“We should get Dash first.”
“Danny!” Paulina yelled as she stopped right in front of him. Her long curly hair looked perfect. No Paulina was always perfect, and today she was wearing that pink v-shaped crop top. “You wouldn't protect me from the ghost?”
Danny forced his eyes up “I would. That’s why you would get Dash after we use him.”
“That’s right Danny!” Kwan laughed.
“Ugh you boys.” Paulina rolled her eyes.
“Yo! Speaking of Dash, where the hell is he?” Valerie spoke up. She had her hair in a tight bun above her head, and was wearing a bright orange tank top and denim shorts.
“Is he still looking for the board?” Star stepped off the bike, almost falling over in the process.
“Ugh, it's just like him to lose it.” Valerie scoffed. Parking her bike next to the others.
“Let’s just have a picnic until he gets here then, Kwan did you get the food?”
“Yep it's right here.”
Star pulled out a large quilted blanket from her star-shaped backpack. The quilt was covered in flowers and butterflies in tacky orange and pink, but no one seemed to mind as they sat down and grabbed their meals from Kwan. Their conversation and inside jokes slowed down as the gang shoved food down their mouths. Danny sat between Paulina and Valerie, while Kwan sat next to Star. The two had been dating for almost a year and it was still stomach churning to watch them together. Their lovey dovey sweet talk could give a puppy cavities, every event they went to they wore matching or color coordinated outfits, even now they both wore spooky black shirts under their red and white jackets. And worst of all, they were a packaged deal. Everywhere Star went, Kwan came as well.
Kwan smirked at him. Danny frowned and munched down on his double nasty burger. Paulina and Valerie were almost complete opposites. Paulina was the head cheerleader with the personality to match. Everything was pink or Barbie related, today she even had pink butterfly clips in her beautiful waist length hair. Meanwhile Valerie was the head of the volleyball team and track team. Her body was toned to perfection and looked like it could crush him. But she still wore makeup and had beaded friendship bracelets hanging over her sweat bands. Both were some of the strongest people Danny knew. And he had a major crush on both. His face buried every time his elbow knocked against one of theirs, or when he reached for a napkin and Paulina’s hand brushed his.
“Oops! Sorry you go first,” Her voice was like a melody leaving her sweet pink lips. Just being in between them allowed him to forget about the ghost. Oh! The ghost! He took a peek at the train wreck house, and he saw a pair of red eyes disappear from the upstairs broken window.
“Hey if Dash doesn't come we could head down to the roller skate rink.” He said, glancing away from the ghost.
“I don’t know, exploring this house could be cool. We could film it and put it on YouTube.” Valerie said.
“Oh I always wanted to do urban exploring!” Star said.
“What if the house falls apart or falls on you?” Danny said
“We can call 911,” Danny accepted Star’s answer.
“Still I don’t-”
“Look there’s Dash!” Kwan motioned his friend over.
Dash ran up the driveway, the Ouija board tucked under his arm. “I found it!” he said, holding it up in the air. Everyone gave a quick cheer, some holding up their sodas, others returning to their meals.
“Did you guys get me anything?” Dash asked.
“No. You didn’t ask bro.”
“What! But I had to find the stupid board!”
“Calm down Dash, you can have my fries,” Danny handed his fries over to dash. The hulking football star groaned before he joined them. An annoyed expression on his face as he munched on the fries.
“So you wanna explain why it had to be that Ouija board and not like, something from the dollar store?” Valerie asked.
“This one is a family heirloom. My great Nana told me they smuggled this over when the Nazi’s started bombing France. It’s been in my family since the 1600’s or something like that, and I figured since it’s so old it has to work. We just, uh, have to be careful, my Great-Nana will kill me if this gets damaged.”
“Maybe we shouldn’t do this then. I wouldn’t want to get on the bad side of great-grandma-Baxter.”
“Oh Danny cut it out. We all agreed to do this, it's too late to back out now” Paulina snapped.
“Are you scared Danny?” Dash said.
“NO! I’m not scared.”
“Aw it's okay Danny Valerie is here to be the brave one tonight.” Star and Valerie burst out into laughter.
“Hey don’t forget about me.” Dash flexed his muscles.
“Pff as if,”
“What?”
“Do you remember last year at the Halloween fair? You screamed like a girl when that clown came up behind you,” Valerie snickered.
“Hey, we all saw It. Clowns are scary. And whatever, are you guys ready to go in or not?” Dash said.
The sun was starting to set below the horizon, the shadows around them were merging into big swaths of darkness. The houses’ windows were now completely black, like a void had taken over the walls of the house, and watched their every move. Dash tried the front door, first gently pulling on it, then yanking it, then he used his whole body to pull it open.
“I think it’s locked.” Paulina said.
“Then maybe we should-”
“NO!” Everyone cut Danny off.
Dash motioned for Kwan, and together the two boys grasped the handle and pulled for dear life. But the door refused to budge. Staying back with the girls, Danny whipped his head around for any sign of the ghost. CRACK! The boys fell over the steps with the door handle still in their hands. Without its rusted handle or lock, the door swung open with a long high pitch creek.

Sniff's anyone?
On what subject(s) are you an authority? It used to be Yankee Candles, and once in a bit, maybe some good Ole Walmart wax melts in my warmer. Now, though? I am a die-hard Scentsy fan. Yes, I use it. There may be something I don’t know about the product. However, if I dont know, I will find out. You probably already know of a Scentsy consultant.  There are so many of us. Hint Hint: It’s the free…
