I was in the mood for a historical romance story and Blossoms in Adversity seemed like a good idea since it features some of the actors I like. I was pleasantly surprised by this drama. I really thought it was going to be yet another run of the mill romance but what I found was so much more.
The story it's not about romance per se, that's a side story, the main plot of Blossoms in Adversity it's a family torn apart when their patriarch crosses the Emperor in the wrong way (for the right reasons). As a consequence the men, including the children, are exiled to the north and the women, find themselves without the family's fortune and no men to support them. So, out of necessity, they create a matriarchy and end up finding agency of their own for the first time ever with incredible results as they slowly rethink the "rules" they have been living by so far. Slowly, each women starts to show their true self, their personal interests and strong characteristics, they start business, struggle and succeed, the road it's never easy but their bond it's stronger.
I will be honest, you will have to push through at first. There’s some catty behaviour but it’s important to understand that most of these females characters never thought they would be anything other than brides or mothers, as set for the society, but these women prove to be mature and sensible enough to hold proper conversations with each other and realize why they need to work together.
The male lead's story it's also very interesting and it complements well the main characters but I found the women's story far more compelling. This drama is very uplifting and consistent in its characters's development, never betraying them.
If you’re in the mood for something fluffy and while also being a totally foodie this drama will be right up your alley. It’s a very lite romcom, your typical office cdrama romance type mixed in with lots of food. It won’t be a memorable one unfortunately but it’s not a bad watch either especially with a handsome guy like Zhang He as leading man around. Oof when that man smiles. He does a wonderful job with his role even with just a mediocre of a storyline. At first the storyline is quite good then it starts falling apart as the story goes especially when the main leads get together. it’s like the writter didn’t know where to go with it (although the smexy scenes are written in like 🔥🧨 ) Eventually to fix it they throw in the cliche exe’s and a weird overdramatized sickness. I just felt everything was way to rushed in the last handful of episodes. Despite all that it’s still a nice one-watch.

Sexuality Headcanon: kink-forward demi-romantic whose desire to fuck someone is directly proportional to what he feels he can gain/achieve by doing so.
A ship I have with said character: han ying, jing beiyuan & wu xi, xie-wang, liu qianqiao, qin huaizhang, ye baiyi, wei wuxian (cql), jiang cheng (cql), nie huaisang (cql)
A BROTP I have with said character: ???qiao luohan?
A NOTP I have with said character: jin-wang for the most part
A random headcanon: sometimes zhou zishu misses the courts of jinzhou--the meticulous rules, clean lines, aggressive competence, sheer familiarity of the place he fought so hard against believing was anything but their safe haven and grand purpose. it was such a mess of complicated bad things all around and he could never genuinely want to go back to a life like that in any possible capacity but there was something undeniably alluring about having such clear purpose to drive for and giving over all else to that goal, even if it turned out to be the worst goal in the end. he doesn't miss the things he did in pursuit of that goal, but it's a complicated relationship he has to some of the memories he formed there in those places, especially back toward the beginning, and it gets more complicated the longer time goes on and the more he comes to terms with his regrets.
General Opinion over said character: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa :wail:
NOTE A MARGINE:
- Attention, Love! cita i Pokemon. Ed è già epico così.
Time-loop mystery Sisyphus stars Wang Qianyuan as a police officer who is sent back to the past every time he gets shot by the man (
Comparable to: Meow, the Secret Boy; (kdrama) ; Make a Wish, My Fantastic ; (cdrama) Mrs. Right (cdrama)
It’s cheesy predictable, corny as heck, utterly hilarious, full of cliches, totally nutty, and it works seamlessly all together perfectly. If you’re a cat lover/owner this becomes even more extra special, the male lead, Xiao Kai Zhong, does a brilliant job of acting as a narcissistic typical self absorbed cat. Now the storyline isn’t anything special, yes it has been done many times before, sometimes they work, other times they don’t. Like I wasn’t a fan of Meow, The Secret Boy. I mean it had its moments, but it was missing something. I just never fully got into it. This drama though for some reason just clicked in all the right ways (I’m sure it won’t be for everyone) The definite highlight is the chemistry between the main leads who were beyond phenomenal, off the charts 🔥. Sure the drama may be cheesy, but the rewatch value for this one is very high.
Search tag “woh costumes” on this blog to find all of these together (on the days when tumblr’s search is working). Core family is at the top of the list, everyone else is alphabetical.
Dedicated to the entire cast for making the Hug of the Century happen.
Because of the individual skill showcase segment (Day 2) for the supporting casts, we got to witness a whole chunk of sweets as well as their built-up SUPPORT for WenZhou/JunZhe’s hug.
***Whatever they did below are almost/have crossed the line yet they defied and did it, all for WenZhou/JunZhe.
1. Gao Chong / Heizi laoshi
“The love of Wenzhou” (温周之恋)
“Wishing them grow old together” (白头偕老)
*On a side note, he was so good with his skill! I had the exact same reaction as ZZH! For once I felt like my reaction was broadcasted on screen!
2. Ye Bai Yi / Huang You Ming
Chose the song <A secret that can’t be told> by Jay Chou
Instead of singing from the chorus, he sang the verse straight away before the chorus:
“Rainy days are not the most beautiful, but hiding from the rain with you under a roof is. The most beautifulscene, swinging on the swing, the dream starts to disappear. [Chorus] You said you would...”
The chorus basically is about breaking up so he probably purposely stopped there.
- A secret that can’t be told: Assumed that WenZhou/JunZhe are together
- Rainy days + hiding from the rain with you under a roof: This is a famous CP fans insider knowledge where a group of early CP fans analysed and determined that both of them (during filming) were alone in the same caravan together (just the two of them) to avoid a very heavy rain during the set. They practically spent the entire rainy period alone in that caravan, and it turned out to be true.
*Our ancestor sings well
3. Xie Er, Scorpion King / Li Dai Kun
Chose the song that he sang in an interview that showcased his raging voice (he sang a gentler version here). <Those risky dreams you have> by JJ Lin When he sang the lyrics:
“Those risky dreams you have,” signals the audience.
“I accompany you to be crazy together” (crazy about having those risky dreams).
Basically he knows that the cpf are all shipping them in their own analysis, stories etc, so he is one of us. (we all know he is ever since his interview)
4. Du Pu Sa X Qian Qiao / Zhao Xi x Ke Nai Yu
It’s okay to ship same gender together. + It’s okay to show it off. They created their own ship off set hahaha.
*These two beautiful ladies are really sweet too!
Bonus (not in the individual skills segment but everyone knows)
5. Zhao Jing / Wang Ruo Lin laoshi
“Take away someone’s beloved”
This whole open shipping by the entire cast caused all the actor/actresses personal staff to be warned, who sternly warned the actors/actresses, who all knew the serious consequences of continuing sailing on stage, had the Director & backstage crew shivering, spent a HUGE sum of money to stop it from blowing up in trending - this would have been CHAOS if it trended.
Despite all these backstage shenanigans, the supporting cast gave both of them the courage to do what they want to do on stage, indirectly.
