First and foremost let's get some background info! .

So our girl is in Management .

Graduated top of her class with honour and all .

Got internship in one of the top international business companies since sophomore year.

"Work hard , don't take shit from nobody" kind of girl .

So after graduating that secured her an opportunity right away .

So started off working , expanding both her relations and knowledge in the business world beside working on a couple of masters and a PhD on the making.

So for a couple of years it was a steady progress up the ranks .

Up until she scored Project Manager.

Which is A lot of work and commitment but she got it covered .

And as a PM she interact with and overseas members from other departments for every project and so she's well known and respected as a leader and a colleague .

Her team members likes to call her the Boss lady , when the work is due you better do your job well or boy you're in for a ride .

But that don't mean she's an uptight controlling bit#@ ordering people around .

She could be seen chatting with other employees and even the internship students , giving advice when asked , boosting energy when needed , and giving praise to who deserves .

That doesn't mean the b+_£#'s won't be around trying to be a pain .

But we know how to deal with that .

Anyway .

As It's said PM works with and supervise other departments depending on the project in progress.

So !!!!!

In came our Danny boy .

With that sharp suit and curly curles and THAT smile .

I mean look at him ! .

Sir !!! that's illegal to look this good and be that good ! .

Everyone knows Danny .

And everyone adores him .

Or/and have a crush on him .

He applied for the job just for kicks but now he got a full-time position so that is that .

But that don't mean he's going to slack in getting the work done efficiently .

He shift through several departments so almost everyone is familiar with him .

Went from working in Finances to Marketing to HR before settling back to Marketing .

He worked on many projects with our girl's department in general and within her team on several occasions when needed .

Both know eachother well as colleagues and their work dynamic is unmatched .

That didn't happen overnight but they got there eventually .

He got a calm and relaxed layed back approach , while she got the organized thoroughly planed approach so they often clash on small details , but you can always see that geddy smile on Danny's face whenever he got on her nerves .

Meetings with him are a nightmare .

And let's not forget about him terrorising the innocent interns on the daily .

If you see him skipping down the hall humming happily know that he accomplished his daily routine of provoking her , and somewhere else she's plotting to throw him in a ditch .

Just kidding .

Or not .

But he always gets her her favourite drink with small packets of cookies and sweets so he's safe for now .

One of the things I’ve been asked is why it took me so long to make my relationship with Em public. If I’m really honest I had more than one reason.

I’m the one who chose this. I’m the one who decided to go into racing, to pursue F1. I made that choice but my loved ones didn’t, and in this case Em definitely didn’t. When we met she had no idea who I was. All she knew was I worked with her neighbour in motorsport and travelled a lot. Even when she found out she chose to stay. She likes me for me and not for my job. It was never fair to make her have to choose between our relationship and her reputation.

More than once I woke up to watch her sleep, wondering what the hell she was doing staying by my side when everyone was throwing rocks at her for being there. But like Taylor wrote, people throw rocks at things that shine and nobody shines as brightly as she does. I always knew that, but some people didn’t and they decided to throw even more at her.

And then we started working together. Making that jump from our relationship to adding working with each other was huge, but the main reason we did it was she was already working with us without realizing it. Before she started she did freelance stuff, and when she had spare time between clients she helped Blake, and then she helped Michael. We were talking about how ridiculous F1 merch was at the time for fans and she had the glorious idea of making Ric3. Then we realized we couldn’t survive a day if she wasn’t there.

How do you explain to people that the woman you love is a genius? How do you explain to the world that she’s the reason your life became not only better, but easier? How do you explain and make strangers understand this beautiful woman is not what ridiculous rumors made her look like? That the reputation they invented for her was just that, a ridiculous baseless invention?

We knew we were in love. But we also knew that some people would think that she was the gold digger sleeping with her boss, or that I was abusing my power. That’s one of the reasons why everything to do with her work went through Blake. He was officially her boss, but really she was in charge. We always joked saying she’s our tiny boss because she really is. She told us where to go and what to do. And the reason we made all of these decisions was because I didn’t want to subject her to the media and paddock gossip. People make jokes about how small the paddock is and how much everyone know. It’s a rotating cast of 1,300 people who live together for half the year. Everyone knows everything and the partners of the drivers on the grid are the best gossip material there is and I didn’t want her to be part of that material.

Em has told me time and time again that it wasn’t our fault that we fell for each other from that very first night we met. She told me she could take whatever happened, and she did and she could, but she didn’t deserve it. She didn’t deserve any of the things people said about her. It was my job to protect her and our relationship and the best way I knew at the time was to keep our love to ourselves, even when we wanted to yell it from the rooftops. Our friends all knew. A lot of people across teams I’d worked with knew. But we wanted something for ourselves. We desperately needed it. 

One of the biggest issues was that when we made the decision to tell people about us that option was taken away from us. It sounds silly but we never got to do the cute social media hard launch - and Emmy had chosen photos - we never got to say it ourselves first. I never got to tell the world “look at this woman who I’ve loved for four years and I feel ok and safe telling you all now.”.

I still remember that day like some kind of sad movie. In a year that was tough on so many levels, it stands out as one of the worst days. It was already hard for Em to go to the paddock. We’d gone through some personal things and she had to miss some races so the gossip machine was yelling all sorts of untrue lies. Coming back was difficult for her.

We had to work out a media plan, and the four of us decided to go our separate ways as soon as we got to the paddock. I went first with Michael, trying to keep the cameras on me. That way when she came in with Blake ten minutes later they could be ignored, it’d just look like two people with paddock passes coming in for the Thursday events. Once we got in it was straight to my drivers room and we could control it from there. Em would do the social media post from her account, when I inevitably got the question about how I was feeling about the race I’d answer “good, I’ve got my whole team around me again so things are great”, we could keep this to our schedule. The start of the plan worked. For some miraculous reason nobody bothered Emma so it was a win. At least, we thought so.

One of the things I hate to see the most is tears in my wife’s eyes. I’ve seen her cry with happiness nine times in my life, every other time she’s cried I’ve just wanted to fix things. And that day the tears were some of the worst she’d cried, and I couldn’t fix any of it. I came out of an engineering briefing to Blake pulling me into a corner to tell me “someone got a photo of you and Ems kissing goodbye this morning. It’s gone viral.”. It was such a hard pill to swallow, and I’m not exaggerating when I tell you my vision turned red and I sprinted across from hospitality to my drivers room where Em was sobbing her eyes out at comments being made about her. All I remember is my girlfriend, the woman I love more than anything in the world, sobbing in my arms because her chance to try control things and let it happen at her own speed was gone.

She knew people were wondering where she was and if she’d appear. Gossip sites online reported alleged sightings of her and that pressure was hard enough. But a photo of what we thought was our last private moment before willingly telling the world being put on social media without being asked? It hurt. It was supposed to be us and our best friends in an empty car park.It was supposed to be one last kiss with my girl while I was still just her Danny and before she had to share me with the world and act like I was just DannyRic. We know people always take pictures outside the paddock, we learn to live with it in some kind of way. It comes with the recognition or whatever you wanna call it. Its part of the job. But nobody was supposed to be taking pictures in that place that morning, especially not a photographer that should only work inside the paddock.

I felt like I failed her. Four years of protecting our privacy and trying to protect her and at the very last moment someone stole that away from us. All I could say was that I loved her but if she wanted to walk away I didn’t blame her, I’d book her flight myself. And then Emmy just looked at me and told me that nobody could get rid of her that easily.

When I tell you she’s incredibly brave and simply badass I’m not joking. There’s a reason some of the younger drivers called her Mama Badger. She was crying in the only place in the paddock where we got any privacy, but then she dried her eyes and covered up the signs she’d been crying, getting me to make sure she looked ok. And then the woman I had known for so long I was going to marry took a deep breath and held my hand to walk into the McLaren garage with her head held high. I could never forget it.

Emmy did it because she knew I needed her, and in the years since I still don’t have the words to thank her enough. I don’t know if I ever will. But the one thing I could do that day was try to control the only piece of the narrative that we had left, so after she gave the ok for me to give a little bit of information I went and did that interview with one of the few journalists we could consider a friend.

D. Ricciardo: A Day In with Danny

"We could stay in all day and watch Tv and eat takeout. You'd love that and I know you would so don't even try to deny it. I just want a day with you. Just us enjoying each other's company. I don't care what we're doing. I would prefer activities with less clothes, but whatever you want we'll do." He tells me. I consider his offer and turn to the bathroom. I could hear him lean back in bed.

I love Danny and would do anything for him but just to mess with him I spend the next ten minutes in the bathroom pretending to get ready. In reality I brush my teeth and wash my face. I threw my hair into a bun and walked out the bathroom. "I wouldn't mind spending the day here with you."

He smiles and lifts the covers inviting me back into his arms. I get in bed and we call room service. While ordering the food I look at Danny and he's staring again but has this look in his eyes. I draw my attention back to the call and end the call.

"You know I love you, right?"

"Of course I do, Danny. Why do you ask?" I question as I know I've never once doubted his love. I lean forward and kiss him. He gently grabs me and pulls me closer.

He slowly pulls away and whispers "Do you see a future for us? "

I look at him and reply, "Of course I do. I see us with kids and a cat even though I'm allergic. A nice house. We have two, maybe three kids because you say three is your lucky number. We also live on a ranch because you just have to." I look at him after my rant and he has a smile on his face, but it slowly fades.

"I'm sorry I can't always be there for you. I know you say it's fine, but I get so scared that you'll find someone better and leave me because I can't give you the life you deserve right now. I know I said last year would be my final year in f1 but there's been talk of me joining Redbull again. Checo's underperforming and he might be demoted. I'm telling you this because I don't want you to put your life on hold for me.

"You speak of this beautiful future for us but what If we have to wait. I don't want that for you but I don’t want to lose you. I guess what I’m trying to say is, I don't want you to wake up one day and feel like you’re missing out because of me." He finishes with tears in his eyes. Daniel is not a very emotional guy and my heart breaks for him. Knowing he's been harboring these feelings for God knows how long it hurts me.

"Daniel, look at me. Don't ever hide something like this from me. I love you so much, and knowing that you've been feeling like this breaks my heart. I'm so sorry you feel this way. I would wait the rest of my life with you, I hope you know that." I start to tear up as I say this, "I only want those things if they're with you and if it never happens then oh well. As long as I have you I’m happy."

“I don’t want you to look back on this time and think you missed out. You know our friends are getting married and having kids, and you’re at home waiting for me. WhatI’m trying to say is if you wanted an out here it is.”

I look at him in shock not knowing what to say. I open my mouth to speak but suddenly there’s no words. I shut my mouth and start to cry. He leans forward and hugs me and quietly apologizes in my ear.

“I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have brought it up. I’m sorry love. Please forgive me. You’re my everything and I would never want to lose you.” He says. I look at him and kiss him slowly.

“We’ll be alright I promise you. I would wait a thousand lifetimes and wait more if you needed me to. I love you with everything in my body. Don’t ever doubt that. Do you hear me?” I ask him. He nods his head and I put my head on his chest and hold him. We stay like that until we decide to order food and start our day.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Most of my most kudosed are F1 fics despite my half decade in hockey fandom. I wrote a lot of rarepairs there or ships that became popular but were just getting off the ground. By kudos:

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I didn't used to reply to comments for a long time but over the last like 2-3 years I respond to every comment I get. I tend to do it as soon as I get the ao3 email so I won't forget to do it. I like responding to comments now that I do and I enjoy engaging with the readers of my fics.

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I don't write angsty endings. All of my fics end happily.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I think most of them are equally happily but I think the two most hard earned ones are play til you win (in which Daniel is an alcoholic who has to quit drinking and go to therapy to get there) and unchained melody (which is set in the 1950s and involves a lot of depression and self denial and immense heartbreak before they get there). I think to me the most hard fought victories are the happiest, especially when you have to overcome great odds to get there like in these two fics.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

So, when I wrote regret (Travis Konecny/Nolan Patrick, regency omegaverse) I made a person a villain and got like 30 harassing comments from the same person about making him the villain. He deserved to be the villain.

I also got some not so nice comments on maybe we did something right because Max says of course a lot which honestly, if anything, I undersold it compared to real life.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes! I think at least half if not more of my fics contain smut. I actually enjoy the challenge of writing it. I've written a lot of different kinds but largely it's pretty vanilla. My favorite smut to write is definitely f/f though since it's the kind I obviously know that most about.

10. Do you write crossovers?

I once wrote a Mitch Marner/Shawn Mendes fic for a dear friend who was going through a hard time. It's very cute.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge, no

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Another one where if I have, I don't know about it. People are totally welcome to translate my fic though! I would be quite flattered.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes! I co-wrote a rather long soulmate trope subversion fic with a friend for hockey big bang one year and I think we did a great job marrying our writing styles. The fic is where the light went (Nico Hischier/Travis Konecny/Nolan Patrick)

14. What's your all-time favorite ship? In F1, it's far and away Maxiel. For hockey rpf it's a 3-way tie between TK/Nolan, Jack/Nico, and Mitch/Dylan. I'm Marvel, easily Stucky.

15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

Sadly, my Nico/Nolan college gymnastics au. I only have the first couple of pages written and I think the idea is brilliant (it's rule 63 and in it Nolan missed out on Olympic gold in a tie break scenario like Raisman and Mustafina) but I think it's never going to happen, especially now that I'm writing hockey less than I used to.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Strong research, and setting a time and place that is very grounded when I write AUs (particularly those that are set in the past)

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I think I don't always keep to the fandom general consensus of characterization very well but I'm not sure that's truly a weakness.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Absolutely not. I only speak English really at all and Google is a very poor translator. I don't want to get another language wrong and I don't really think it serves to move the story along if the other party wouldn't understand it anyway.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

A long deleted Welcome to Nightvale fic that was only 800 words long and was deleted 6 months after I posted it on ao3 because it wasn't very good.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

It is 100% unchained melody. I think it's lush and beautiful and rich storytelling that's very grounded in the time and place (late 1950s, Winnipeg) it's written and I don't think I will ever write anything as wonderful as that. A close second though is play til you win which I think has some similar qualities in terms of groundedness in time and place (mid 2000s, central New Jersey).

Nyck de Vries: Losing F1 seat at Alpha Tauri 'hurts' says Dutch driver

Nyck de Vries made his full F1 debut for Alpha Tauri this season Nyck de Vries has said losing his seat at Alpha Tauri just 10 races into his Formula 1 career "hurts". The 28-year-old Dutchman was dropped by team owners Red Bull last week and replaced by Daniel Ricciardo from this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix. "Of course it hurts that the F1 chance I dreamed of for so long ended prematurely," said De Vries. "But life is not a destination, it's a journey. 12: how are you?

at first I considered being flippant but this is a space where nobody knows me so I can be honest. miscommunication chain between my spouse and I means things are falling apart less than 6 months after we married. it's devastating and I would do anything to fix it. I wake up crying every day about it. I went to an inpatient mental health program because things were so bad. joining an RPF fandom with an anon tumblr and watching people write folks getting through hard times and coming back to each other is sometimes all that gives me hope when I wake up from my 3rd night in a row and go "oh I wish I hadn't woken".

Daniel Ricciardo to have a 2023 seat. sunshiney man deserves it.

related to above issue, I want also for my husband to sit down with me and say: we hurt each other during both of us adjusting to live together. you did something that wounded me very badly. i did something that wounded you very badly. what if we tried to start again and work it out because we mattered enough to invest thousands of dollars and a visa in our belief this would work, and we shouldn't let what is kind of really our first real big couples fight ever end it. because we did some almost unforgivable stepping on pain points and landmines, and there were times when i said to myself 'i can't forgive what you did with $X', but you probably said that about me too. and i didn't realize i'd done that to you and you didn't realize you'd done that to me. but i tell myself we didn't know they were there and isn't it better to try to repair ourselves from the hurt and build a kintsuigi pot then give up and walk away and leave the life wreckage behind.

I want to be an anthropology-archaeology officer on the Enterprise-D. I wanna be living my best queer life in the 24th century of luxury gay space communism, where replicators provide foods, medical magic makes being trans easier and cures my allergy, I get to work at a cool job that involves meeting new people and seeing new places and lots of travel, my love.

Be nice to Alex because he’s worked just as hard and deserves his spot on that grid just as much as any other driver. Be nice to Alex because he’s had to meet unbearable expectations, but managed to bear all of them on inexperienced shoulders. Be nice to Alex because he would be nice to you.

Be nice to Lewis Hamilton. Be nice to Lewis because he’s given his heart, soul, and body for this sport. Be nice to Lewis because he is a man of change, action, honor, and respect. Be nice to Lewis because he puts the world before himself. Be nice to Lewis because underneath the intimidating exterior is a kind man who just wants to put some good into the world. Be nice to Lewis because he values kindness above all else.

Be nice to Sebastian Vettel. Be nice to Sebastian because he’s stronger than we recognize and softer than the media would ever have you believe. Be nice to Sebastian because he’s been through hell and come out holding a trophy. Be nice to Sebastian because he can light up the paddock with a single smile and pat on the arm. Be nice to Sebastian because too many aren’t.

Be nice to Lando Norris. Be nice to Lando because despite being a world-famous F1 driver, he’s still just a 20 year old trying to find himself. Be nice to Lando because as much as he’s a soft, giggly, dorky mess of a muppet, he works extremely hard on the track every race, and it shows in his progress. Be nice to Lando because he deserves nothing but kindness.

Be nice to Max Verstappen. Be nice to Max because he’s working so hard every single week, all while facing immense pressure from his team, from the world, and from the reality of growing up. Be nice to Max because he’s finally allowed his giddy nature to break through his hard exterior. Be nice to Max because he thrives on companionship and laughter. Be nice to Max because kindness makes him better. 

Be nice to Daniel Ricciardo. Be nice to Daniel because, in the midst of his charming personality and giant smile, we often forget just how much he has gone through. Be nice to Daniel because he’s one of the most genuine, caring, and open people on the grid. Be nice to Daniel because he’s a force to be recognized but never to be afraid of. Be nice to Daniel because behind all the laughter, he’s human, too.

Be nice to Charles Leclerc. Be nice to Charles because of all the traumatic events a person can experience, he went through many at a painfully young age. Be nice to Charles because he’s worked his time away over the years, all without losing the sweet, hopeful side of himself. Be nice to Charles because he’s not just a model, or a pretty boy, or someone to mock, or compare to others. Be nice to Charles because he still is, after everything.

Be nice to Pierre Gasly. Be nice to Pierre because becoming a trend for a moment isn’t the same as gaining support. Be nice to Pierre because he was tossed aside once, but he picked himself up and carried on, already set on improving his future. Be nice to Pierre because his words are always kind and his heart is pure, and the way the world sees him should work to build that up. Be nice to Pierre because he wants you to want to see him succeed.

Be nice to all the drivers. Be nice to the drivers because even if they aren’t your favorite, they are somebody’s, and even if they aren’t somebody’s favorite, they are real and they are human and they are worthy of love and respect. Be nice to the drivers because they risk their lives every single race to provide entertainment and the least we can do is be supportive. Be nice to the drivers because kindness begets kindness begets kindness. Be nice to the drivers because this sport is toxic enough at times, and we, as the fans, should take our part in making improvements wherever possible. Be nice to the drivers because why are you even in the fandom if you so dislike the very people creating it?

A thing of the past - Bahrain GP review

In 1973, the Formula 1 season closed with the US Grand Prix at Watkins Glen. The title had already been decided in favour of Jackie Stewart, who had secretly decided to retire at the end of the season, and leave the mantle of leading driver of Tyrrell to his teammate, François Cevert. Stewart would leave at the peak of his powers, with 100 GPs to his name, tired of seeing friends die on track. It had been a dark era for the sport, and there had been an impact on his and his wife’s mental health. It had taken too much of a toll for them to bear it any longer.

As fate would have it, they were in for another sad ending. On the Saturday practice session, Cevert lost control of his car in the Esses, hit the barrier on one side and was sent careening towards the barrier on the other side at an 90 degree angle. The second impact ripped the barrier from the ground; Cevert was killed instantly, from injuries caused by the barrier that was meant to save his life.

A lot has changed since those days, and Stewart was one of the men who most contributed to that. After retirement, he lead a campaign for improved safety in both tracks and cars. It took time for safety to arrive at today’s standards, but F1 can now boast an incredibly positive record. Despite some big shunts, only one driver lost his life in the past 25 years. People like Stewart, Charlie Whiting and Dr. Sid Watkins were instrumental in achieving this remarkable record, and the changes they campaigned for have saved many drivers. 

Romain Grosjean added his name to that list yesterday. As the replays of his accident hit our screens, and the carcass of his survival cell became visible in the wreckage, it was clear that the barrier had given in. His head would have gone straight into the upper section of the barrier, at a speed of over 200km/h; just like his countryman 47 years ago, the car headed to the barrier at close to an 90 degree angle. Had it not been for the halo, the last great measure championed by Whiting before his untimely death, Grosjean would surely not have survived.

But for all that was impressive in how the car, the marshals and the medical car protected and ultimately rescued the driver, there are questions to be asked, particularly about the barrier. Improvements in barrier technology were one of the most important steps towards driver safety; accidents like the one that killed Cevert showed the importance of improving the design and build of the barriers to ensure that they could sustain heavy impacts without breaking apart. Barriers that were supposed to save lives were taking them instead.

Which is why we have to question what happened to Grosjean’s car. The similarities between Grosjean’s and Cevert’s crashes are inescapable, and in both cases the barriers failed to do their job. Yes, the halo saved Grosjean’s life, but the main point should be the fact that the halo should not have been necessary at all. If the barrier had fulfilled its purpose of absorbing the impact and throwing the car back out, the halo would have played no part in this crash at all.

To make matters worse, the way the fail structures of the car are meant to work, once the survival cell was stuck in the guard-rail, the back of the car had nowhere to go and, as it’s meant to do, it split from the monocoque. The violence of the impact and the fact the chassis was wedged between sections of the barrier probably led to the break happening further back in the car structure than it should. (I am in no means an expert in this, so take this sentence with several grains of salt) This, in turn, led to a fuel line rupturing, which led to the fire. The barrier failure not only caused the accident to be more serious than it should have been, it also caused a fire that made the driver escape harder and more dangerous than it should have been.

Don’t get me wrong: I don’t want to diss on the FIA, when their relentless pursuit of safety has significantly contributed to saving many drivers’ lives. Grosjean’s survival was not a matter of luck, or a miracle, as many have said; it was the product of decades of work and science by those in charge of the sport. If news of tragedy are now rare in motorsports, we owe it to them. There is also no way to entirely remove the danger factor off these sports: every time a driver straps themselves to a cockpit, there is always a possibility that it will be their last time.

But certain elements of danger should be a thing of the past, and what happened to Grosjean is definitely one of them. There will certainly be a thorough investigation into the crash and the causes of this failure will come to light. If the past is any indication, the FIA will learn new lessons and will implement new measures to ensure that barriers will be improved and will continue to do their job. Most importantly, I am certain they will ensure that barriers will not endanger drivers’ lives rather than save them.

The comments made by Ross Brawn after the race were very encouraging. Instead of the usual platitudes about what a great job they have done to protect drivers, he talked about the things that did go wrong. It shows that the willingness to admit problems and study solutions has not gone away and that there will be a continued resolve towards protecting the stars of the show.

We should rejoice that Grosjean survived with only minor injuries what was quite possibly the scariest accident of the past 25 years. Witnessing a car burst into flames was something that we thought belonged to the distant past and brought home the stark reality of the risks these super humans take for our entertainment. But we should also not allow such an incredible escape to blind us to glaring problems that led to this big scare in the first place. There were other times in the past in which we were lulled into a sense of false security by miraculous escapes. Let’s not repeat that mistake.

Talking points

•  When the race eventually got underway, it significantly helped to clear the fight for third in the constructors’ championship. What little hopes Renault and Ferrari still had were ended, and Racing Point lost a bag full of points when the chequered flag was in the horizon. Perez had another masterful race, taking third place early on and controlling Albon from a distance. His engine giving up the ghost was a cruel moment for the team, with the despair etched on Otmar Szafnauer’s face and body language in the pit wall.

•  The major beneficiaries of Perez’ misfortune were McLaren, who leapfrogged Racing Point and are now 17 points clear in third. Even without that retirement, they would have still outscored the pink panthers, but this has made them overwhelming favourites in this particular battle. As mentioned in an earlier review, they continue to maximise their results even when they don’t have the fastest car. That ability to get the job done even when the odds are against them is an excellent sign for the team’s future.

•  And Sainz’s race was enormous. P5, coming from P15 on the grid? Bwoah.

•  Daniel Ricciardo, who will replace him at McLaren, left his teammate in the dust once again. The first time he was stuck behind Ocon he asked to be let by on the radio, as he was clearly faster; the team obliged and he quickly left his teammate behind. Later on, after a round of pit stops, he found himself behind Ocon again but this time passed without the assistance of the pit wall. The Frenchman is not a bad driver, but the Aussie’s superb form is making him look vulgar.

•  Albon inherited a spot on the podium, and, after his big crash on FP2, the champagne must have tasted sweet indeed, but it was not lost on anyone how he lost the battle to Perez, the one driver vying for his seat, while driving superior machinery. Nevertheless, it is a moment that can give him a boost of confidence for the final two races and allow him to relieve some of the pressure.

•  When asked after the race about the potential for drivers refusing to drive after witnessing such a terrible accident, Verstappen said that if he was a team boss he would fire them on the spot. The Dutchman’s alpha male attitude is beginning to grate a lot of people the wrong way, especially when his words have such a negative connotation in terms of mental health. It was heartening, though, to see a few of the drivers of the 2019 F2 grid were quick to denounce his words, having lived through something even worse than Grosjean’s crash. There is a different mentality in the new generation of drivers coming through, making Verstappen’s attitude look more and more out of place in today’s motorsports.

•  Pierre Gasly drove another masterclass, this time in terms of tyre management. He was struggling by the end and was saved by the late safety car, but would have nevertheless (quite probably) finished P8 on a one-stop strategy in one of the most tyre abrasive tracks on the calendar. It was risky, but with Perez’ failure at the end, it proved to be a good roll of the dice by AlphaTauri.

•  At the front, nothing new. Hamilton controlled the pace from start to finish, keeping Verstappen at bay and always responding when the Red Bull driver pushed that little bit harder. In the end, the Dutchman had nine of the ten fastest laps of the race, but it was still no match for Hamilton’s consistency over a grand prix distance. Try as he might, his car is no match for the W11 and that is robbing us of a mighty fight between arguably the two best drivers on the grid.

•  Dr. Ian Roberts deserves all the plaudits he is getting, and then some, for the way he ran towards the flames to help Grosjean escape the wreckage. With protective equipment that is far less safe than the drivers’, he still dared to run towards the fire. Enormous bravery.

•  A different type of bravery was shown by the Haas team members, who still had a car running in the race and carried on with their jobs. Even knowing that Grosjean was ok, it must have been difficult to continue their work after that enormous scare. But carry on they did; a special bow to them for that as well.

•  To cap off another miserable weekend in terms of safety, a marshal crossed the track with a fire extinguisher in his hands right in front of Lando Norris’ car. He was trying to reach Perez’ stricken Racing Point, and the safety car had been deployed, so the speed of the cars had been significantly reduced, but this is a risk that simply should not be taken. An eerily similar situation killed Tom Pryce in 1977. And once again, Michael Masi shrugged it off by saying that, while not ideal, we should not castrate (his words, not mine) anyone for trying to help put out a fire. Non-chalant, flippant, callous. I miss Charlie Whiting.

A Neutron Star Merger, The Fall of A Formula One Hero, and a Belgian Maiden Grand Prix Win

The LIGO/Virgo collaboration teams, observed a gravitational wave event of a Neutron Star merger "with the probability that the source may have at least one object in between three and five solar masses" said LIGO, on September 1st.

Who would have imagined that to the world of Formula One, that same rip to the fabric of space and time of a binary system hundreds of millions of years in the making, could have different consequences in the racing track.

It would arrive the same day that Charles Leclerc would make his Maiden Grand Prix Win.

While one can’t be certain what Einstein meant when he said, "God does not play dice with the universe,” we can only think of this moment. The Universe may be 14 billion years old, and with that, heroes and legends can be made because heroes are not born. Through pain and tears, downforce and minimal drag, Gravity much like F=ma, can be good friends, but in one wrong Turn, all can become the enemy, to Formula One drivers.

They are made, on the track and in moments such as these.

Racing For Anthoine

Like the great Carl Sagan once said, “For small creatures such as we, the vastness is bearable only through love.”

Anthoine Hubert, 22, of France, lost his life at the Belgian Grand Prix on August 31st.

The Renault French driver, was involved in a major accident with American Sauber driver, Juan Manuel Correa, at the Spa-Francorchamps. Hubert's car hit the bars then collided with Correa’s.

Correa, underwent surgery and “will remain in intensive care for at least another 24 hours to ensure that his condition can continue to be monitored by his surgical team,” read the official statement released on his website.

Anthoine Hubert, succumbed to his injuries after that tragic accident at Spa-Francorchamps.

A childhood friend to Charles Leclerc, someone he raced Karts with, laughed with, and joked with, perhaps looked up to race with head to head in this very track, the Monegasque now ran alone.

For Charles Leclerc, securing his maiden win at the Belgian Grand Prix, wouldn’t be the first place in his legacy, but a bequest to honor the memory of his now departed childhood friend. 

Notwithstanding, everyone was racing for Anthoine and to honor his memory.

This was no ordinary race and as challenging as it was it would become one to remember.

The morning of Charles’ race, he'd been seen by the media talking to Anthoine’s family.

His mother, Nathalie, Father Victhor and brother Francois, gave him their support, as Nathalie embraced him.

That heartbreaking sight will live in the hearts of fans forever.

The Love of a Mother

It might have instilled love and strength in the Monegasque and a little extra push to go with the respect of millions of fans as a reminder that Anthoine would have wanted him to get to P1.

His last race having been practically stolen in Bahrain, this time, nothing would get in his way.

Phased, and unbelieving that any of it had happened, Anthoine’s loss, and his win, Charles said: “We were four kids dreaming of getting to Formula One.”

“We have grown up in karting together, so to lose him is a big shock for me, and everyone in the sport.”

“It was definitely the first situation for me where I have lost someone and then raced the following day. It is obviously quite challenging to close the visor and go through the exact corner —where he died— at the same speed as I did the day before.

Pierre Gasly, the Toro Rosso driver, gave Leclerc a little fuel to win the race too, had the words “ALWAYS WITH ME #AH19,” above the open view of his halo:

“I've grown up with this guy since I was seven in karting, we've been roommates, we've lived in the same apartment, in the same room for six years."

“We’ve been class mates, I’ve studied since I was 13 until 19 with him, with the same professor at a private school that the federation did. I’m still shocked.”

“You have to put it out of your mind because otherwise, you can’t race,” he added,

“I told Charles before the race: Please win this race for Anthoine, as we started racing in the same year, Charles, Anthoine, and myself. And Anthoine won the French Cup in 2005. We raced for many years and knew each other.”

Overtaken in Bahrain by a one-two Mercedes win, and getting wheel banged by Red Bull's, Max Verstappen in Austria, back in July, costing him-his first win, this one; means more.

“We lost a friend first of all — I would like to dedicate my first win to him. In my first race, we drove together, it's a shame what happened yesterday, I can't enjoy my victory fully.” Charles added.

"It is difficult to enjoy this victory, but hopefully, in two or three weeks, I will realize what happened.”

Everyone was cheering for Ferrari’s 16 to win it for Renault’s 19.

In the aftermath of Hubert’s passing, it’s hard to express what Leclerc must’ve felt like when he got to lap 19.

19 was Anthoine’s racing number, and the crowds paid tribute as well when the drivers came through.

it was no consequence that of all days, that Neutron Star Merger would be named S190901ap. The date that recorded the LIGO/Virgo's Neutron Stars Merger, which coincided with Anthoine's number.

And then you heard a solemn “This one is for Anthoine,” coming from Ferrari’s radio, said by Charles Leclerc upon finishing first.

Everyone burst, there was commotion everywhere, a good day and a sad day in Motorsports indeed for all the right reasons.

“It’s a good day but on the other hand losing Anthoine yesterday brings me back to 2005, my first ever French championship,” continued Leclerc during an interview.

A League of His Own

Seeing the Monegasque separate the Silver Arrows and keep good pace through and through, was what Formula One is all about, but is unfathomable to know how he must’ve felt while driving down Spa’s circuit or how he feels now that it’s been completed.

As youth of this new century, explorers and pioneers, one often forgets that millennials have much on their shoulders.

They’re here to make a name for themselves, and it's undeniable that on the way to greatness, they’re bound to lose those they love because this sport is ruthless.

Charles Leclerc won't be the exception, to the rule, but he's been the valid example of losing in every aspect and yet here he is. Racing and winning. Nothing deters his will to keep going.

The Scuderia Ferrari driver, and godson to Jules Bianchi, the last casualty to the sport before Hubert, is the living reminder that today's youth, still have plenty to look up to and much to fight for.

You could see him in the podium wearing a black armband with his entire Ferrari Team, as he raised his Trophy to the sky in honor of Anthoine.

Empowering generations of new drivers to not feel like outsiders. He might have lost a friend, his godfather, his father, that battle on two multifarious and defining races before, but on his third, he got his maiden trophy with a little help from above.

Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes spoke encomiums of Charles Leclerc after the race.

"It's not easy for any driver to jump into a top team like Ferrari against a four-time world champion, with much more experience, and then to continuously out-perform, out-qualify and out-drive him. But Charles’ results speak for themselves. There is a lot more greatness to come from him, and I am looking forward to racing alongside him in the future.” 

“Then once I got in the car, as I did for my father two years ago, you need to put all the emotions to one side and focus on the job.”

Said, Leclerc “I was happy to win and remember him the way he deserved to be and, yeah, happy to do it on this day.”

"They are so much faster than us and Monza is all straights ... We will do our best, but it is going to be a tough job to match them.”

He lamented his inability to master those straights like Leclerc, before. Something the Monegasque is seemingly able to do. Monza will be the place to put the five time World Champion to a test.

"So, there's a lot more greatness to come from him and I'm looking forward to seeing his growth and racing alongside him ... Today, it was fun, trying to chase him. He was just a little bit too quick.”

Maybe, Chekhov was right after all about Entropy, that beautiful chaos that makes our universe work, It does come easy, but as I wrote in my book, “Entropy comes easy, but Love outgrows the Universe,”©️

"I was struggling in the corners, so that allowed him to get close," said Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari and Leclerc's Team mate.

"I couldn't hold him off for a very long time. I tried to obviously make him [Hamilton] lose time in order to give Charles a cushion, and in the end it was just enough, so it did the job.

"I couldn't stay in range to look after myself, and I was sort of playing a road block to make sure that Charles was gaining some time." He did everything to help his team mate achieve his first victory.

In a statement given by Daniel Ricciardo from Team Renault, he too admitted not wanting to race following Hubert’s untimely death.

“I know that, weirdly enough, the best way we can kind of show our respect was to race today,”

“But I don’t think any of us actually wanted to be here or wanted to race”

 “At least, I’m speaking for myself, but I’m sure I’m not the only one. It was certainly tough to be here and try to put on a brave face for everyone.”

 “I know a lot of people in the paddock are hurting so I think everyone’s relieved it’s done, we can move on from here, and hopefully it’s the last time that this happens.”

For the Renault fans, Ricciardo racing that day meant everything.

To know that a driver from his team had perished, how does one reconcile, to keep the morale high for the millions of fans aching so racing is the answer.

Is the one thing the Aussie does to help the fans, and he does it well. We appreciate the effort even when we know the heartbreak he's feeling. A collective effort from everyone now to help each other heed the call of the F1 neighbor even on social media.

We love him for it.
