Incredible how Tolkien took a detail as simple as Merry noticing the approaching Nazgûl thanks to the moonlight and, instead of leaving it at that, added layers that make this moment all the more incredible.
The darkness of Sauron and his Nazgûl originate in Morgoth.
The Moon comes from the last flower of Telperion, the Tree which Morgoth destroyed out of fear and hatred of its light.
And the Moon was created by Elbereth, of whom Morgoth was afraid since the beginning.
And it is that same light, from that same creator, that exposes creatures of that same darkness 2 entire ages later.
Wow.

Sam: Wait, I know how to deal with these guys. (Shouting at the Ringwraiths) Back, you devils!
Merry: Yes, that is masterful.

Frodo at Weathertop
a/n: another compilation made by @almost-gabrielle and I
paring: frodo x fem! reader
_________________________________
⬩ when frodo got stabbed on weathertop, you were immediately at his side.
⬩ you held his hand the entire time he was in pain as strider fought off the nazguls, doing your best to comfort him.
⬩ you shielded him from harm's way as strider fought them off.
⬩ when you reached the forest and set frodo down on the ground, you pulled his head gently to your lap.
⬩ you whispered sweet nothings, being sure to be incredibly careful with him, until help arrived.
⬩ but you were basically weeping the whole time at the thought of Frodo dying
⬩ when the she-elf had whisked frodo away to rivendell, you were anxious, wondering if you'd ever get to see him again.
⬩ the first thing you did when you got to rivendell was asking where frodo's room was.
⬩ lord elrond led you to his chambers personally.
⬩ when you got yourself comfortable after sitting down in a chair, you gently grabbed frodo's hand, carressing his knuckles softly.
⬩ you promised yourself that you would stay at his side and stay awake until he woke up.
⬩ you actually couldn't though, and fell asleep due to all the stress and exhaustion.
⬩ But then you woke to the pleasant surprise of being kissed by Frodo!

Frodo thought that he heard a faint hiss as of venomous breath and felt a thin piercing chill. Then the shapes slowly advanced.
