Remembering that Katniss' wedding dress in the movie is based on designer Tex Saverio, I saw some of his designs when I noticed this dress. It is coded as the wedding dress from the Snowbaird wedding at the Capitol. Lucy Gray would have preferred her mother's dress, but she is in District 12 and Coriolanus wants to show off how rich and powerful they are, so he ordered Tigris to design it.

I have headcanon that in both the movie and the book, he chose Katniss' wedding dress, because this man is a frustrated wedding planner.

Just look at the roses on the skirt, they scream Lucy Gray Snow!

it's not really her style i don't think, but i'm begging the rookie costume department to draw some inspiration from april's wedding dress for lucy, because they really got the disney princess vibes down to the t.

when natsu is planning to propose to lucy everyone tries to help and give him advice with the ring and try and say what ring lucy would want but he gets annoyed with everyone trying to tell him what lucy would like when he knows what she would like because he knows her best and is able to decide when he doesn't have someone with him trying to tell him what ring she would like

Since we're coming right off of Halloween, this seems like an appropriate way to start a month of Oscar winners. I've considered featuring this one before for the theme of white and the theme of weddings, and each time I've held off because I find it so bizarre and hideous.

Eiko Ishioka, the designer, said she based the look on the Australian frilled lizard (Chlamydosaurus kingii):

But as far as I'm concerned, that raises more questions than it answers. Starting with "What in heaven's name made you look at that creature and say 'wedding dress'?"

Then again, Ishioka apparently also said that this movie would be like an adaptation of Dracula in which everyone had taken LSD. Which honestly explains more, in my opinion.

One point of interest about the dress: we never get a back view that isn't obscured by the super-long trailing veil, but from what we can see through the veil, it appears to have a multi-tiered bustle. There's a good analysis of the costume here; it and this post have some good pictures (some of which I borrowed).

I go a little feral for brides in entertainment media that are put in fights for their lives in their wedding dresses and go a little unhinged while doing it. Just... pure rage. Lucy in Fallout is of course the most recent example. But also Tabris in Dragon Age? Grace in Ready or Not? Rosalie Hale, my beloved? There is just something about the cliché 'purity of the white wedding dress' and that just being absolutely repurposed and bastardized and even weaponized. And these girls are always the most badass and savage. Grace looking at herself in the mirror, wedding dress torn and dirty and caked in blood, sneakers on instead of dainty high heels, hunting rifle in hands, hair in a mess, makeup ruined, saying 'holy shit' at herself. Like yas gurl go kill something! Tabris' iconic 'Like dogs, Shianni' that will never not be badass. Rosalie going on a killing spree on her rapists while in her wedding dress. Just, brides going apeshit. I love it. Give me more examples of this, I eat that up! I think it's the 'I have been violated in this dress and now I am in this dress when I fucking go nuclear on everyone who has wronged me' that gets to me.
