it's pretty wild to me that people don't see that aang running off to save katara in CoD is his luke in empire strikes back moment, where he runs headlong into his want and attachment and he's narratively punished for doing so and not learning his lesson - aang runs after katara despite guru pathik's warning, like luke runs after leia and han from yoda on dagobah despite yoda's warning; similarly, as a result, things go to hell in ba sing se like they do on bespin - aang enters the avatar state before he's ready and gets killed, and ba sing se falls to the fire nation, luke fights vader before he's ready, loses a hand, and symbolically commits suicide after vader tells him he's luke's father.
the difference between their character arcs is that george lucas and co. actually went thru with luke's hero's journey and understood the fundamental difference between attachment and love, whereas I don't think bryke understood this difference and then dropped this from aang's arc pretty much completely and replaced it with aang digging in his heels into his want and attachment and he gets rewarded with energy bending from a lion turtle, the avatar state from a random pointy rock, and his forever girl from the self-indulgent white men that couldn't bring themselves to give their hero a compelling character arc that meant he might not have gotten everything he wanted at the end.

It is once again “why didn’t they let ryuji have any empathy for yusuke” era. Nothing like a game establishing that both of them have abusive/neglectful/awful dads and then instead of ryuji trying to connect with yusuke and show him that madarame is abusing him, he just gets angry at him?? For what????? Why???? There was so much potential

Like literally everything else aside, killing off Izzy is dumb for, if not nothing else, the sole reason of wasting their best actor. Like Con is truly just something else.
Absolutely no shade to the rest of the cast (I mean that earnestly. I really love them all) but Con is just built different. He breathed life and love into a character that would not have been nearly as gripping if someone else had played him. His talent is honestly incredible. And not only that, he elevates the scenes of every other actor he’s with. His whole presence brings the show to another level for me.
Like…narrative be damned tbfh. If I were writing this show, I’d do ANYTHING to keep an actor that talented on my show. And killing him off DESPITE it also being bad for the narrative…well 🤐

Ok so we all agree that Tracy saving Madison and then going with her is some bullshit right. (Imagine how traumatizing that's gonna be for that poor kid... that simply can't be healthy)
In the very very rare occassions where I do accept this as one(!) possible outcome (not super probable mind you and def not likely), I have the following HC that makes dealing with it easier.
I imagine Madison comes to regret killing Troy. Deeply
I think that getting to know Tracy, seeing Troy in her and seeing also what an amazing, clever and sweet kid she is, hearing stories about Troy as her dad, it'll make her finally, at last love Troy. And with that comes regret. And she's gotta live with that, what she took from Tracy (from Troy), every day. Being reminded of that, every day, every time she looks into Tracy's eyes - You've got your father's eyes. And they sure will haunt her, till her dying breath.

Jim Hopper wouldn't have let hawkins witch hunt Eddie. My boy Hopper would have shut them all down the second they started to blame Eddie, tell them they were crazy and would have made sure he was safe with the rest of his kids. There were just too many different ways Eddie could have lived and made it a better story.

talked about this on discord but i'm still thinking about it so putting it here too but hazbin hotel is NOT a female lead show no matter how much they try to convince you they are. every single woman is either shoved into a static feminine role (mother, fashion designer, girlfriend, maid) or is helpless without a man (charlie was only able to get the cannibals with alastor's help, her dad ended up saving her MULTIPLE times and beating adam, etc) and if the female character isn't either of these then she's a villain (lute, probably lillith, seraphim). i think the only exception to this is emily and we only saw her for the one episode

i may be crucified for this opinion but
one of the many reasons i think dds deserves a remake is just how little impact some of the characters have and it’s really fucking sad. unless they’re party members or antagonistic forces they don’t get nearly as much screen time as they deserve and i think that hurts them as characters???
jinana and lupa especially. i get the setting of the first game is a battle royale that turned into a cannibal battle royale so of course not everyone could live but they kinda didn’t get as much screen time as they deserved. i mean think about it they kinda just exist to introduce their tribe, interact with the embryon for a bit, disappear, reappear once or twice, then next time you see them they’ve succumbed to hunger, you beat the shit out of them, and they end up dying. what little they are given does make you like them don’t get me wrong but a lot of that rides on dialogue which, as someone who loves seeing people experience certain plot stuff of games i enjoy, i kinda noticed that it was a really mixed result. it’s either “oh no anyways” with maybe the player getting a little melancholic when they get brought up again or the player doesn’t care. considering how important their struggles and mini arcs are that’s not good??? the fact that they exist solely to develop argilla and gale is a shame since unless you like the exchanges they have their deaths don’t have that big of an impact. they do get mentions and all that in 2 yet it kinda just. makes me question it more from the standpoint of what could’ve been done with them or the giant emotional aftermath that should’ve happened. this isn’t to say they can’t die or whatever but considering the interesting conflicts dds introduces and how it already struggled to explore it as much as it could’ve, jinana and lupa really did have the potential to help remedy some of those issues.
and then there’s fred aka the smokey of dds. i still don’t know why he exists except to explain why lupa somewhat knows what a child is and to introduce the existence of tiny humans to the gang. i’m sorry i straight up forget he was a character at points.
qds fixed a lot of this yes yet i still think it’s important to point out on a game standpoint, since most people who play dds don’t end up reading qds, and i really don’t think actual important contextual stuff or major aspects of a game’s themes should be exclusive to books. it’s not as bad as something like fnaf or other mascot horrors—that shit was over a decade later—but it is a major writing issue and i don’t think the fact that the original lead writer got sick and had to leave means there wasn’t a writing decline. you can tell there was stuff that was going to be built upon only to be abandoned or underdeveloped.
it’s extra sad because this is straight up one of the best instances of world-building the series has ever had, and the whole cannibalistic character drama mixed with spiritual and buddhist + hindu themes is something so inherently interesting while also being in some ways taboo??? there’s not a lot of games out there at least not made by indie developers that get that risky since it’s not marketable, and something like that is next to nonexistent now in the mainstream market. we fuckin need games like the dds duology that challenge the status quo and goddammit if it got expanded upon and had more development for side characters that would be actually perfect.

Okay, I'll say it. I don't like the idea that post epilogue, Dammon is just banging away at his forge alone, still holding a torch for Karlach. This isn't some comment made in jealousy at all, but one meant to say Dammon deserves better than to be some kind of thirst joke afterthought.
At the epilogue party, the game makes it pretty clear she's with Wyll if alive and not romancing the player.
In a DLC, Dammon is the perfect candidate to become an Artificer companion-hells maybe even become an origin option too! But most of us would settle for him to be simply a companion and romanceable like Halsin and Minthara or just a romanceable NPC that's not some one-time fling. He's someone we can visit on the daily most of the time, so yes, it can work.
But why? Because he deserves to be wooed and romanced by Karlach, Tav, one of the other companions, or hells all three at once. To say he can't be romanceable because he would lose his mystery is pure bullshit. Sorry Frazier, but it's true.
Gaw! It's so frustrating when a solution and an opportunity are all right there, and it's overlooked or ignored. He can be BOTH romanceable and mysterious when all that's needed is to write him in a way that leaves the player yet not Tav or Durge in the dark.
Dammon could even be written in a way where the player questions if our fav blacksmith could be up to no good. Let the fandom sweat over and argue about whether or not we should help him with some mysterious mission. Have him outright refuse to elaborate on it. Let him be equally tight-lipped about all he was forced to do or willingly did to survive in the hells when working on infernal machinery. This way, Frazier can play what he loves to play the most, and that is at least a potential bad guy. Well, not mean to the player but instead a character some might find almost as sketchy as Astarion is viewed would be fine.
*sighs* Why does he need to be romancable to everyone too? The simple answer, all of us could use a little bit more sunshine.
If I could say one thing to Frazier, it would be, "Karlach is not the only touch or affection-starved character out there. There are so many real people who need a Dammon in some form in their lives, even if it's only fictional. Karlach and Dammon's story is important to us. A Dammon and Tav/Durge story is just as important, too. These stories of love and friendship all need to be shown and celebrated. Plus, Dammon comes off as warm, thoughtful, and supportive, and so many of us out there really desperately need that-the more the better. We need it to feed our hopes to keep trying and open up our hearts again. So let him help fix heal more than just one heart, please. We all want to see him grow just a little more because he's such a fantastic character so far."
#i will die on this hill#bg3#baldur's gate 3#dammon#dammon deseves more love#pardon me#I just need to yell a little#just frustrated over such potential of a wonderful character going to waste#he's got so much wonderful potential#bg3 dammon#baldur’s gate 3#baldur’s gate 3 DLC#artificer class#battle smith#In BG3 EA Dammon was about the first NPC I overheard expressing his problems and with zero thought of a reward I just wanted to help.#no mission or quest given#I don't normally do any kind of roleplay in games.#But when I overheard him say he needed better tools I made my own damn side quest to give him every one I could find for free.#zero pity for him just felt oddly compelled to help his dreams come true with every hammer or anything blacksmith might need I plucked up#Hoped he would make it even though I was certain he'd end up dead in a ditch. That's what happens to most NPCs that pluck the heartstrings.#felt very protective over him in EA and still now#A tiny crush I fought tooth and nail because I was convinced we would find him dead in act 2 or 3 or never see again#it bloomed up to full-on love finding him again at the Last Light Inn at the full release of the game.#“Yah! I'm so happy to see you again! You're still alive!”#“But it’s not safe here! Oh nos!”#“You're here!” Happy and Excited#“You're here!” Fearful and Worried#Then that fucking ox!#“It's dead and oh here are a dozen hammers my love”#“That’s four times I've saved you. At least once directly. Wanna go out? What? Saving someone repeatedly IS a love language.”

actually i despise the way that, out of all of the potential characters my brain chose to fixate on out of this show, the queercoded embodiment of gifted kid burnout was the one it settled on.
not the girlboss mean girls ripoff. not the perfectionist overachiever with control issues. not the overconfident over-competent manipulator. not THE goth girl artistic activist of the 2000s. you know, literally any of the characters with things like screen time or character development (read: character regression)

I think sometimes how yall talk about miss powers is weird like the nonstop hate and always calling her a bitch. Rubs me the wrong way, like she is an interesting character who had brought an interesting challenge to wordgirl concerning critical thinking as well as teaching the lesson of how it can be dangerous to blindly trust authority figures or even becoming a follower to someone because they seem skilled/talented
That's one thing that's always bothered me, is how we can acknowledge the misogynistic tropes concerning ships like tobecky, which need to be acknowledged. However misogynistic mindsets continue on in the Fandom concerning a few female characters, I've seen people have unreasonable hate towards Miss Powers, Claire McCalister, and even Violet.
And it makes me sad :(. Instead of playing with the character and their traits, interactions, and function in the story someone people just villianize them and it is so sad.

“As daughter of the Ice Tribe's leader, it is my duty to protect our people!”
Guess who is in the middle of a Fates hyperfixation revival.
Also guess who hates the maid archetype but at the same time loves an underdeveloped character who is a maid.

To be very honest, the only thing I find genuinely interesting about jujutsu kaisen besides the art is the storyline at the beginning of Season 2.
I couldn't care less about what sukuna and kenjaku were up to. Literally the relationship and drama around gojo and geto is what kept me on the edge of my seat. Otherwise the manga for me feels pretty basic ? Itadori is supposed to be the main character but he's so sidelined in his own story ? Everybody else keeps dying too fast for me to care about it ?
Like I wish the manga was actually about early gojo, geto, nanami and co. I wish instead of a 2 episode flashback we had the entire manga dedicated to geto slow descent to madness and events that unfold. Can you imagine jujutsu kaisen as a psychological horror anime ? Waaahhh
And obviously this is just my personal opinion don't crucify me I'm not saying the manga is bad just ....
