Got hit with a surge of writing ideas just before falling asleep last night and this morning at work and all the pieces are starting to come together with how the mystery story plays out
Except for what these dang characters look like T-T I don't know where to start
#i struggle with designing characters if I don't have some sort of parameter to work with#dnd spoiled me by giving me existing races and classes to work with#there are too many options when it comes to designing a friend group#maybe I'll give myself arbitrary parameters#what are those parameters?#ehh I'll figure that out later

when i say "any pronouns" it does not mean "you are allowed to default to exclusively using the pronouns that you view as corresponding to my presumed sex or gender presentation" it means all fucking pronouns.
#i also personally do not use it/its pronouns but i stopped specifying that in my bio because i found it was more common for people to...#...use that info to intentionally misgender me than it was for anyone to use those pronouns for me genuinely/without malicious intent#people are already resistant enough to using it/its for people who specify that they use them. like pulling teeth.#almost no one is using them without being specifically prompted to do so#+ id much rather be occasionally misgendered by someone who didnt know they were doing so and was operating within my *specified* parameter#than be regularly misgendered intentionally because i specified what not to do.#ceci says stuff#100#200#300

strong opinions on takes of the 'could this character defeat kira' variety
#i think there are three relevant categories btw#could intuit the mechanics of the death note / could identify light yagami / could survive#each of those has to be split into further nuanced discussion tho#eg if a character is able to identify light but wouldn't apprehend him then does that count as defeat#choosing to apprehend light will affect the character's odds of survival and that's a character / personality thing#i like the ones who cant intuit the mechanics but would catch light anyway because sometimes it would be for unrelated coincidental reasons#oh and also we'd have to set parameters like which universe is this taking place in. i think death note universe#does the character retain their own powers? what about the powers that their universe grants them#to me it's like a super smash bros situation where if a character is a cartoon then they bring cartoon logic with them#so like for example detective pikachu would survive no matter what because you cant fucking kill pikachu#new ask game send me a character and ill tell you if they could beat light yagami#im kidding but if you do this id probably do it.#can you guys tell im at work. and bored out of my gourd

it was so stupidly difficult to find any nutritionist who has experience with arfid & takes insurance so after having to go through all these referrals my therapist sent me & jumping through hoops I lowkey hate the lady lmao feels like such a waste of time & energy

not to brag about being good at my job but I’ve now developed two separate tools for debugging entirely on my own within my company entirely from scratch without help and A. it makes my job so much fucking easier and B. my boss is thinks im incredible just because im too lazy to want to write the same bits of code over and over just for debugging purposes
#unimportant thoughts#one i wrote 2-3 months ago#but i upgraded it this week to add in even more#and its just. perfect now.#given an id from any of the programs we built and run in our company#i instantaneously return everything about it#its name; what it does; what type of program it is; what server its run on; when it runs; where it connects; the parameters needed to#connect to wherever it connects; whether the program is currently turned on; the last 10 times the program ran; how many minutes each of#those runs took; how many files each of those runs created; whether those runs were successful; code snippets you can copy paste and run in#another window to look at the files created by each of those runs; the files created by the most recent run; thise file names; those file s#sizes; what types of files they are; whether theyre encrypted#how theyre encrypted#all of that and MORE#most of the information was already there but it took fucking 20 minutes to get all the information you needed#and you had to run a bunch of different snippets of code to get all the information and then put it all together#and now you can just fucking pop in the id of the program and .02 of a second later all the information is on your screen#AND IT MAKES MY LIFE SO MUCH EASIER#so. so. so. much. easier.#and then this week I wrote another program so I can compare runtimes of two different runs of the same program together based on how we stor#runtime data in our database#csuse i was tired of going back and forth manually between to different runs to compare#so now i have a program that just takes the ids of two different runs and compares them#doesnt even matter if the checkpoints are different I programmed it to figure out the order automatically and plug in any missing holes#finds the differences in runtime automatically and flags the biggest differences#and I can even customize how much of a difference I care about or to hide things I don’t care about

#[head hidden in shame] ive basically conceptualized a guy#so like. the restraining bolts. they had to have tested those out beforehand to get to where they are now right#and pryce loves to play god#so ive been thinking about the possibility of goddard [and specificaly pryce] having some wetware on hand to play with#by which i mean people#and the improvement of humanity defeat of death thing#etc etc#really lends itself to a little bit of vat baby nonsense#so i was thinking about like#body parts being grown in jars and kids with mostly mechanical bulding blocks with meat and skin steched over top [just the stuff she needs#to mess with]. and then i thougt#well that would be an interesting guy#esp as a mirror to hera#a human whos too mechanical vs a machine whos too human sort of deal#and then its like well okay#whats the most interesting horrible thing that could happen to the guy down in the Lhab [tim curry frankenfurter voice]#and I think it would be really cool if it was made to test an earlier version of the restraining bolt#so the upper part of the brain is replaced by a sort of aasomvian post atronic deal#and its open for progeamming for pryce sort of like a research cows might have a stoma#so she can reach in and set parameters and see what makes what jump etc#without having to install a new bolt each time#and thats a very ai experience#and ive been picturing the effect kf that [outside of pryces interference] as a very blunt severance between what im conceptualizing as#the upper and lower consciousness#so all the lizardbrain shit [im hungry im scared im angry i want to run away im in pain] is still functional but the upstairs has no access#its all body based#and then upstairs is purely learned cognition#no access to the emotional state#it doesn't feel fear in its brain. it thinks just as well with a gun to its head as it does in an empty room. but its hands start shaking#when it smells something that reminds it of the lab

it would be really exciting that we're finally seeing AI used in sound synthesis if anyone was using it for anything at all cool or useful as an artistic tool
#about 50 percent of them are idiots being like#''woah look our synthesizer can analyze a sample and recreate it with editable parameters. cool huh?''#except no it's not cool at all. because once you edit those parameters it's no longer the same sound which means it's kind of pointless#and effectively just an overengineered sampler with heavy limitations on what it can sample. you dumbass.#then there's the stuff that takes samples and generates variations on them. which basically means you have no creative agency involved#other than the tedious workflow of iterative breeding like AI image generators have#which makes it the opposite problem where it's an overengineered synthesizer with heavy limitations on what you can synthesize#and then there's the small number of things that are kind of neat and expressive. but suffer from the problem of being blackboxes#so you can't ever really understand what you're *doing* when you turn a knob and develop a resulting intuition.#so its just kind of more random in a more playable way.

i'm never knowingly going to reblog a post that includes the phrase 'touch grass,' and that's not because i don't think it can be psychologically beneficial to get in some outdoor time if possible—i went for a walk earlier! it was great!—or to take a break from conversations that are getting you wound up, but because i think that particular wording generally reveals two things:
first, that the writer is speaking not from a place of genuine concern and sympathy, but from judgmental impatience à la 'get therapy,' which—i too have felt judgmental and impatient in my time, god knows! but when i feel that way i try to go unpack those feelings in private with a thoughtful friend, instead of pretending they constitute a source of wisdom or a helpful sort of energy to direct at people, you know? and i'm definitely not particularly interested in boosting a ventpost from someone else—who pretty clearly hasn't bothered to take the breather they're urging on others, if they're making little digs like that—as if it were actually sincere, carefully-reasoned advice.
and second, that the writer's argument embraces some seriously sloppy assumptions, which pretty immediately undermines my trust in the rest of their analysis—i mean, there's absolutely no guarantee someone's local scene will be any less parochial, just because it's playing out irl! there's also not actually a clean divide between 'people who spend time in the Real World' and 'people who spend time on the internet, which is for porn losers,' as demonstrated by a number of phenomena including, again, the aforementioned grass-recommenders' own presence right here on tumblr…
anyway. obviously we all have our own particular lines we draw around particular rhetoric that bugs us! these are just some reasons why that particular phrasing bugs me.

I really appreciate people who write big long analysis posts about media because 1) I have a very bad sense of memory and a weird way of ingesting media so even if it's a concept I understood subconsciously while I was watching/reading, having another person put it into words helps me remember and gives me a deeper appreciation and 2) anyone who writes analysis posts is already 10 times more articulate than I am

writing is fun... could i make a career out of writing fiction...? should i try to monetize a passion? is it even a hobby? im doing it to test and push myself and to practice scope, deadlines, and finishing commitments/projects. so im sort of treating it like a job already. but one where im my own boss? hm. much to think about.
#my hobbies are gaming. anime. model kits. diying accessories and clothes. designing tshirts. art i guess. sewing? embroidery?#writing is taking my worldbuilding/daydreaming hobby and converting those ideas and dreams into something tangible#but am i just convincing myself right now?#perhaps this is a case where the only way forward is to try things and see what works#either way i will continue to operate under the parameters of the task ive set for myself#hashtag blogging with aggy
