❤: Which character do you think is the most egregiously mischaracterized by the fandom?

Louis <3 I think this is an affect of how likable and overtly sympathetic he is in the amc show but I've seen people getting genuinely offended over Louis being described in fandom (and by Anne rice herself) as a manipulative cold hearted ass who uses his perceived vulnerability and gentleness to distract from the fact that he is just as cruel if not crueler then the other vampires. Like Louis does nottt have strong morals or high empathy lmao. Book Louis weaponizes his privilege like a white woman crying to self victimize into making the other vampires look worse them him 😭 . He refuses to kill humans for a while not bcus it hurts him to take life (he actually takes more pleasure in it then most), he refuses bcus he has catholic brain the way a christians who say "how do atheists have morals without god?" do, misunderstanding that most people actually care about other people and dont need an existential threat to encourage them not to hurt others.

His moral compass is self centered and based in up keeping the appearance of self restraint and monk style lack of enjoying himself, not empathy. If a vampire killed u would u feel better if u knew he cried over how much he got off on it then flaunted his suffering over how little he indulged so that everyone knew how piosis he was 😭.

He is way worse when it comes to how he treats his victims then Armand who intentionally seeks out victims who r asking to die or Lestat who tries the vigilante approach. Louis kills innocents and he thinks it makes him better cuz he only does it sometimes and he feels really really bad about himself afterwards. As akasha said (paraphrased) he's the most predatory of them all.

To specify I love book Louis SOOOO much I love how shitty he is that's why it makes me sad when people mischaracterize him as sincere and get gen mad when ppl characterize him how he is in canon (a lying selfish bitch bless his heart). Like ik amc Louis at this point in canon is unambiguously in the right but he isn't like an accurate reflection of how he is in the books 😭 it's not like amc did what anne rice was trying to do more successfully, they just nulled what anne rice was doing in favor of a more likable protagonist. Which is fine, but like, there's no crime in preferring evil to the core horrible asshole Louis of the books.

💚: What does everyone else get wrong about your favorite character?

I think the common fandom perception of Armand as the crazy unhinged "omg I can't believe he actually did that in the books??" sadistic maniac villain guy is funny but not really accurate. Armand explicitly not only tries to avoid violence but dislikes it and finds it hard to comprehend why someone would seek out violence and conflict.

The reason he is always doing fucked up shit isn't out of a lestat-esc desire to cause chaos, it's bcus his highly strung ptsd brain has him convinced that the world is a battle ground and he must always be defending himself and acting out in violence.

Since acting out in violence is a reaction hes been taught throughout his life to be standard and necessary, as violence is something so normalized to him he considers it more of a tedious chore then a last resort measure, he usually reacts to conflict in ways that are objectively extreme to anyone who isn't thinking from his perspective. In qotd he even asks Daniel why men choose to fight in wars, explaining that he doesn't understand the draw of violence (bcus he's not a man) and he can't comprehend the supposed thrill of it.

Only to a degree, I think Lestat is hot and deserves the hype, but i also think he's hot in a different way then a chunk of the fandom does. Based on his book description he's kind of wonky looking, mouth too big for his face, vaguely unnerving shallow pale skin, starved 1700s peasant build but also kind of buff in the unhealthy "i dont eat regularly but I'm strong enough to carry a wolf for miles on my back" sense, weirdly small fucking feet. He def has creepy ass florescent blue doll eyes too. my point is I think when drooling over Lestat the fandom tends to forget this wonkiness in favor of blonde bombshell, Sam Reid chizzled jawline and abs, or conventionally beautiful anime twink, when they should be appreciating lestat in all his weird as shit glory.

Fuck it Mitchell ramble post bc I care about his character alot actually (cringe)

Originally played football later switched to baseball and is regarded as a jock type, though his main passion and hobby is being a guitarist. He writes and vocalizes songs but sees it as being just a part of getting to play guitar if he wants to do it entertainment wise, often rock/pop rock lyrics that don't go far into and generally lack emotional depth, in favor of being catchy. He loves the rockstar aesthetic mainly, and the old timey-esc gentleman one secondarily.

A big huge romantic, very flirty personality who prides himself on being attractive. Brimming with genuine self esteem he thinks highly of himself to the point where he can come across as egotistical, in actuality he doesn't outright think he's better than anybody , just has clear self love is all.

He's an older brother and incredibly family oriented who aligns more maternally in the nature of his behaviors alot of the time. For the majority of his life it was just him and his single father so he's always craved that big family vibe he never got.

He's supposed to have a caring/warm/comforting effect on people in alot of scenarios as well as effectively protective so he's physically big as well as literally usually high temperature and I've used the term "swallowed her/his frame in his embrace" to describe him hugging ppl bc they'll like disappear against him/in his jacket

and also the fact Mitchell takes up alot of space, is aware of it, and doesn't like it !! He's incredibly expressive in nature and talks with his hands but almost strictly keeps them right infront of him. He's also heavily expressive in the face, he prefers to not hurt feelings and stay in his manners but cannot have a poker face easily at all. He can only lie believably when the need/want to do so outweighs any guilt.

Has this thing where he doesn't want to hurt people and never wants to come across as violent or scary. I've described him feeling immense guilt in certain situations when he thinks he has and he gets the overwhelming desire to literally shrink himself down but can't. It's a pure insecurity not really based in any truth or any one past event.

Regulates his emotions very well, seemingly has this endless patience.

Mitch has things integral to the person he believes he is/wants to be. Attractiveness, helpfulness, comforting, being main ones. He'd much rather be a "simple" guy despite his dreams of fame, as in easy going and rather not particularly burdened by anything emotionally, very positive in attitude.

Additionally in being characterized as "simple/basic/normie" alot of his personal tastes reflect that, having very on the nose typical "average" preferences and not falling far outside the box of what's considered normal, he's nerotypical and charming and has functioned his whole life in the center of what's considered socially appealing.

He doesn't like to analyze his negative thoughts at all, much rather get them to go away. He doesn't even like to analyze himself that hard at all either, or his habits. He doesn't know why he needs to be helpful, strong, masculine it's just a role he wants to fill and prides himself on doing so.

He's completely unaware to all his flaws, as he's accidentally a little overbearing at times to his loved ones, even unintentionally patronizing in some circumstances, coming off condescending without meaning to. He wants to be helpful and even specifically has this good samaritan "look out for the little guy" mentality but to do so inherently has to make subconscious judgements on who's deemed a 'little guy' metaphorically or literally.

He likes to think of himself as a guy who has no toxic masculinity, and for the most part doesn't, but what he does have is deeply subconsciously internalized and only ever aimed at himself, a certain ideal he has to be.

On multiple levels he's judging himself on a different caliber than other people, holding things against himself he wouldn't for anybody else, holding himself to a different standard on a plethora of things.

As well as his fear of being scary he doesn't want to be perceived as weak either. To his idea of himself a damnaged or hurt person will never fit that, bad things happen to other people and it's his duty to help them as a friend, lover, whatever he may be to them. This isn't to say he thinks there's something shameful on a personal level to being a person who went through something bad, it just is to him. He's not being good enough if he can't get over it.

Has a fear if he ever does something extreme to give either the impression he's scary or wimpy that'll be how everyone present will veiw him from then on no matter what he's done or can do to fix that image before or after.

Despite having such heavy pride in general, especially in his looks and his ability to be charming/flirty and that having an effect on people, his pansexuality is not something he feels much connection to. He doesn't even view himself as a queer person just a "dude who happens to like dudes too" and experiences alot of comphet without ever realizing it and of course never addressing it

random ofmd thought: I love that Stede is so cringe.

He's just. Awkward. Ridiculous. Unapologetically weird at all times and he never gets any cooler. Every episode has at least one Stede moment that causes me physical pain and I love that.

Because usually, if a character is this embarrassing, their arc is about learning to be less so, to be like anyone else, to be more normal, and Stede never does. He learns to be more confident, yes, but he never stops unapologetically being his awkward self, and that's so good to see? He's fine the way he is? He doesn't have to become less himself, he just has to learn how to own it better and that's so healing to see

A brief conversation I had with @mikimeiko on their lovely meta about the motive of loss and abandonment made me think about miscommunication some more, and how horrible Calico Jack was to Stede.

When Stede meets Calico Jack for the first time this is what he says to him:

Who's the big gal?

Off to a terrible start, and it only goes downhill from there.

As others have pointed out, this is a very mean thing to say in general and absolutely unacceptable to say to a queer man in particular, and Ed knows that. He's trying to do damage control

My #1 post of 2022

oh but I adore how everyone in this stupid pirate show is just a guy

I haven't seen ppl talk about it much but. the absolute lack of shredded abs. people show tummy and cleavage and there's not the barest hint of muscle definition anywhere

obviously some of them are very fit but it never leaves "works a physically demanding job and happens to be naturally thin" territory

and guys are fat! guys have bellies and rounded shoulders and chubby cheeks and imperfect teeth and thinning hair and are styled weirdly (that's a whole different post but the crew especially look so unprofessional styled it's great)

and they are still all hot! they are hot and desirable and find each other hot and desirable and I love that

I love to see it! nobody in this show looks like they had a personal trainer. and not just the side characters, not just a token fat guy - obv Taika Waititi is the most beautiful man you've ever seen and that little bit of tummy pudge spilling out of his crop top made us all lose our collective minds. but it's everyone else too; and it's not the extend of it either. no other show would have let black pete within 10 feet of a romance arc, much less been this sweet and sincere about it

this show is so comfortable with the human body in all it's glorious imperfection and I am in love with it

Yayyyy!!!

So first thing first, I just HAD to make Kasumi the protag! Cause, ya know, Ultimate Private Investigator and murder mystery? Yeah :))

Broken Spirits!Kasumi is basically Kasumi in Danganronpa: Crime and Punishment (the name of my fangan). Very sweet and friendly, but has a strong sense of justice. The theme of this game (like how the first one was hope vs despair, v3 was truth vs lies, etc.) this one is justice vs mercy. Kasumi is a very lawful good person, and has high morals. She's a little self righteous cause of this, but she means well. Even if she can get a little naggy when people do little morally questionable things like telling white lies or stealing a pencil from someone. She's also still sleepy cause quirky gal <3

And our favorite antag

Cynical asshole!Daisuke Kurosaki makes his appearance! I changed his last name cause I had no idea it was just literally purple in Japanese, lmao. But anyways, he'll be our antag. But more Togami esc and being closed off and distant rather than straight up unhinged like Komaeda or Kokichi. But he doesn't really understand, or care much, for human life, cause....well, you know 50sod!Daisuke....he's--he's a criminal! The opposite end of Kasumi! (ofc they don't need to know that yet ;))

W-Who is this? Protag support? Eh, not important, next!

While I haven't gotten to making his report card yet, Haruto plays a big role in the story as well! He's still quiet and shy, but polite and fucking smart! He helps out alot in trials and investigations, and he slowly warms up to Kasumi as time goes on (but kinda latches onto her as well, since he's a bby boy and gets attached to nice ppl, abandonment issues)

W-Wait....what's happening? Certainly you aren't important either, right? Eh, wait....ultimate director? I can't....recall any sort of movie or tv show a Sachiko Rizuna made.....*shrugs*

Okay....she doesn't play a big role, but ig she does last a good while and fits a 'space case' character (Ibuki, Angie, Hiro, characters lots in their own world, etc). Akari is a big ball of energy that likes to make people smile, but has a childlike streak. She's kinda loud and doesn't take the killing game seriously, but she really just wants to make people laugh even when the situation is bleak

That's all my tired brain can write about atm, but I can def tell you more later when I have all the other characters more organized in my notes! These are just my favorite blorbos atm :)

I really like this cast so far! Can’t wait to see more!

Akari gives me either Chapter 3 victim or comic relief character that makes it to the end (like Hiro, Kazuichi or Himiko) type of vibes.

Also, I’m getting mastermind vibes from Sachiko. Both from her talent as a director and from the description you gave her.

I read the other day that the premise of Legacies was a romeo+juliet-esc thing between Hope and Landon and that they were the first one's to be cast? It was a h*ndon saying it, but it would make so much sense?? Cause I've apparently been watching this show thinking Hope, Josie and Lizzie was supposed to be the focal point🙃 and been so SO tired of Landon! I do think producers/writers should change it up if shit isn't working storywise, or resonates with the ppl watching(which it clearly hasn't)

That… Would explain a lot. Most of all how they missed the mark in such cataclysmic levels on what the people expected of the show vs. what they actually delivered. One would think they would’ve readjusted it — after all, they’ve had plenty of time to realize what they’ve been doing just does not resonate with the people — but I guess pride is one hell of an illness.

Edit: Also, regardless of what the premise was, the show was never marketed as such. I was at the HBO Portugal launch and Legacies was used as one the “shows to watch” type of thing to promote their catalog, right around the time the show was kicking off. No promotional material for Legacies has ever been about Hope and Landon’s relationship but all of it has been about Hope, Josie, and Lizzie as the legacy characters from TVD/TO.

oof, so... ok. i mean, as a white european woman i generally try to listen to what POC say is/isn’t appropriation of their culture, and take my cues from them (rather than other white ppl) and i think you and I probably disagree on its importance - i don’t think it’s a sketchy topic, i think it’s a very valid criticism of white people’s continual disregard and costumisation of stuff that does have real significance and importance to those cultures (the headdresses worn by people from various native american tribes are a good example - from what i’ve read they are most comparable to military badges of honour and are symbols of real respect and valor to those communities that have to be earned, so white ppl making cheap knock offs for halloween costumes/festival outfits is really disrespectful). Equally, the issue (as i understand it) with things like dreadlocks is more to do with the fact POC are often seen as dirty/unkempt for wearing their hair that way while white people do it as a fashion statement and get praise and credit for it.

That said, I do generally agree about the idea that americans are pretty clueless about european culture and the huge differences in culture between european countries. And i’m sure that plays a role in the way this american song contest is ONLY for the US states - i think they see the difference between, say, Denmark and Italy as comparable to the difference between Georgia and Pennsylvania. Sure they’re different, but they’re still american. Sure, greece and switzerland are different, but they’re still european. So taking this continent-wide contest and making it an interstate competition doesn’t feel like such a big deal. And you’re absolutely right that native european communities are rarely, if ever, included in American’s conversations about cultural appropriation (although i think that’s probably because native european culture isn’t really what americans are appropriating anyway).

I also want to be clear that i don’t think that an american version of ESC is inherently appropriative, or even problematic. I think there are ways it could have been done that I would have absolutely been in board with. As i mentioned in some of my initial posts reacting to the announcement, my biggest problem with it is that they are taking the concept, warping it away from its actual format, and completely ignoring the purpose and history behind esc - a purpose and history that ABSOLUTELY play in to the way europeans view the contest as a whole.

I said in one post that eurovision isn’t actually about winning at all - but to americans it will be, because that concept of it crossing national borders to bring people together to heal after wwii won’t exist for them. I touched on how making it a series rather than an event makes it feel less special, and takes away that feeling of this one night a year where everyone gets to be at the same big party together. The problems with the american song contest are not that the americans are making their own version of a european program. It’s that they are taking the name and branding and throwing away everything that actually makes ESC so special.

Interestingly, this actually makes it far MORE similar to the generally agreed upon idea of cultural appropriation than i think we’ve ever seen with european culture. Most of the time when americans really latch on to part of the euroscene it’s with respect for the history behind it - at least more so than when they take other, non-white cultures. I’ll roll my eyes at the way they sometimes play pretend at this cartoon version of upper class english lifestyle but it’s not exactly offensive or dismissive. But this.. is. What they’ve announced they are planning for the ASC.... is. It says “this is a big event that gets crazy attention and we want to get involved but only if we can twist it and warp it and edit it into something palatable and familiar to our OWN culture, even if that means removing the very things that make it important to yours”.

EVEN THEN, however, without that backdrop of abuse and exploitation, it’s not as sinister for them to make this knockoff ESC than it is to turn Cinco de Mayo into an excuse to get drunk and party. The context behind these things matters. And while I think it’s fair to be critical of the way they’ve taken something like eurovision and are turning into just another american idol with the fun gimmick of states competing, I disagree with the dismissive tone you took in this message surrounding cultural appropriation.

Honestly, you’re complaining about american hypocracy while being just as hypocritical yourself. Yes, it’s wrong for them to take something like ESC and do... whatever it is they’re trying to do to it to make it their own. But if you can recognise that, and feel that about a song contest, can you not practice the same understanding for the POC are calling out the appropriation of far more significant aspects of their cultures?

(Also, europeans don’t get to hoist all the blame for all this onto the US. We started that trend. We colonised those countries and killed and abused those people so we could claim their land and their foods and their resources for ourselves. We don’t get to deny the role we played.)

A thing to note though is that some of the secret endings(the item ones at least) can't be completed in a short run, you'll know if you don't have enough turns to complete an items ending because it will have been removed from the shop.

OH! so one time i was doing a project with two friends of mine and one of them went to the bathroom so she turned her computer off but we needed to use it so we like..looked up how to hack into a computer and we clicked on this youtube video to try to do it and IT WAS GOING REALLY WELL for the first 5 minutes but then the entire screen went black and this white coding started like. appearing on the screen and we were so freaked out because we knew this wasn’t supposed to happen so i kept typing stuff like “quit” and “exit” and finally i just pressed the esc key and the screen just went black again and we were in a library so we couldnt scream but i threw myself onto a chair and curled up in a ball.. IT WAS SO SCARY and when the friend came back she logged into her computer and she looked at us and she was like “….what did you do.” and we were like uh oh but we said “what do you mean?” and she showed us her computer and all her personal settings had been erased. like her wallpaper was default and all her files were moved around. YEAH…. that wasn’t smart of us but it’s was so funny afterwards. we never told her we tried to hack into her computer tho… STILL.
